What does the Rams Depth Chart currently look like?

all right welcome back guys I'm Jake Ellen Bogan special thanks as always uh to bleacher board for having me today we're going to be talking about the Rams depth chart we're going to be building our own Rams depth chart before we get started just want to let you guys know at any point if you want to check out more of my content or like my content in any way uh you can go and follow me social Med filled out uh but obviously we're going to you know know we're going to put in our own so going off the quarterbacks here misleading as you can see down here Jimmy garoo is a reserve uh because his suspended tag he is going to be suspended the first two games of the season but we are going to have a little cavat here okay we are going to make sure that this is all based on if they had to play a game today what does the depth chart look like because I think that kind of gives everyone a little bit of a broader understanding of what we're looking at here with the Rams in 2024 so I think starting off here we'll start with quarterback obviously your starting quarterback's gonna be Matthew Stafford um I'm not too worried about the contract stuff I know some people are I don't think it's going to be too much of a big deal I think if anything it's a good sign he wants to stay he wants to be committed and he wants to make sure the Rams are committed as well Stafford your starting quarterback your backup quarterback it'll be STS and Bennett week one and two in all likelihood uh barring you know an unforeseen circumstance um but besides week one and week two and if we were starting now with no suspensions or anything like that Jimmy Garoppolo would be the qb2 he would be the backup there STS and Bennett would be third on the dep chart and of course fourth would be dresser wi who is not likely to make the roster moving on to running backs here number one okay I hear a lot of is Blake korm going to do this is Blake korm GNA take over for Kiron is Kiren in trouble kirn's not in trouble okay Kiron is dealing with a foot issue according to Shawn McVey he is going to miss OTAs and he will be back for the training camp program okay it's okay he's going to be fine this was the second best running back in football football last year Blake km has not taken a snap Ronnie Rivers hasn't shown anything where he could take over for Kiren Zack Evans hasn't shown anything and Boston Scott is really kind of a gadget running back so Kyon Williams has this spot locked up no matter who you talk to whether they want to admit it or not Kym Williams is the guy okay maybe maybe you could make the argument the injuries could be an issue okay that is potentially fair but Kiron is going to be the guy he's the number one running back until further notice he's number one number two as of right now I would actually give this to Blake Corum I think if the Rams started the season right now I think they would take Blake corm over Ronnie Rivers Zack Evans and Boston Scott which is interesting to say the least keep in mind korm is a rookie but he's a little bit more experienced rookie and he was arguably the best running back in college football the last two seasons I think Blake corm would have the number two job today looking at who would be the number three I think there are a lot of people that would want Zack Evans here and I think there are some that would assume Rony Rivers but I actually would go with Boston Scott I think Scott offers a little bit more in the receiving game and I think he offers enough in the return game where they would give him more run than a Ronnie Rivers or a Zack Evans he also has that great speed which is not really found on the roster so I would say Boston Scott is third fourth I'm going to give it to Ronnie Rivers here I think Rivers has just proven more than Zack Evans to this point he's not great in pass protection but he's better than Zack Evans I do think when it's all said and done Zack Evans beats out Ronnie Rivers for the job if there is one there um but for now starting you know today if they were to play a game I think Ronnie Rivers would be ahead of Zack Evans on the depth chart so those are the backs there we move on to wide receivers okay so the wide receiver room is pretty loaded even with the departure Ben scronic I know they trade him away right now your starting wide receiver in my opinion number one receiver right now is puka nikua okay Cooper cup is probably the go-to answer there um but the Rams are relying on puka to be the number one receiver if Cooper cup comes back and does what he did two years ago or he comes back and he does any bit what he did in 2022 before he got hurt then cup could very well be that number one receiver but there's a chance you could argue that puku and Cooper cup are both wide receiver once now what comes of the third spot that third spot they're interchangeable keep in mind mind for the most part I would say while whoever is on that third spot could play in the slot they will predominantly be on the boundary uh they're going to be an outside wide receiver a flanker um you look at like puka and kooper cup they're going to be utilized in the slot I think puka gets more of the outside I think they want to move cup back into the slot but I think they're interchangeable I would say number three receiver is uh Demarcus Robinson um now I love tutu Atwell but let's be honest here the Rams told us last year what they felt about Demarcus Robinson it's not that they don't believe in 2 two outwell because he's still on the roster they haven't traded him away and he's still a really good number four receiver but Demarcus Robinson was utilized towards the end of the year was having touchdowns you know was having 80 yard games 100 yard games they relied on him big big game for him was the saint game really stood out there so I'm going to go with Demarcus Robinson as the number three receiver now the depth chart we're talking depth so who are the second string guys right so behind Demarcus Robinson is 22 ell now Atwell could play any of those roles but we're going to say that he's four and he's behind Demarcus Robinson number five I'm G to say this is Tyler Johnson the reason being he's been in the program he knows how this thing works he's a veteran Tyler Johnson behind Cooper cup or puka AA number six is Jordan Whittington out of Texas the rookie that I continue to Rave about just hearing great things about him in Camp how he's basically translating everything he knows in the classroom to the football field they're very high on him Jordan rodrig even mentioned that you know she sees some things with him so I I've been on Jordan Winnington since the start uh even before he was drafted I thought he was exactly what the rams look for in a receiver would not be surprised if anybody this year is puking AA 2.0 it's Jordan Winnington of course we hope that's not the case because while that would be great for Jordan Winnington it would be great for the Rams in that sense it comes with a cost if Jordan Winnington is even playing enough for that to be the case that means there was a serious injury that I don't even want to talk about so number seven here this is where it gets a tricky you have Sam wiggas you have JJ lap you have Drake stops and you have Xavier Smith I think that seventh receiver spot would be Xavier Smith the reason being there's three udfas and then there's a guy that was on the team last year for that reason I'll take Xavier Smith here and right now as the number seven receiver and he would basically be behind Demarcus Robertson and 22 atw which is what we see on the hour lad stom dep chart number eight receiver I'm going to go with Drake Stoops here I think Stoops U better route Runner and obviously played at a bigger program than the other two so I'll go with Stoops I'll go with wiggas after that and then lap after that we move on to tight ends here little tricky Tyler higgy is considered the number one tight end on this depth chart and I mean that's definitely fair but he's not going to be ready to go this isn't a suspension deal uh you know like Jimmy Garoppolo Tyler Higg is coming off a brutal injury a dirty hit by Kirby Joseph I'll continue to say it whenever I want to say it um but the point I'm making here is Higg is not going to be ready to go he wouldn't be ready to go today he wouldn't be ready to go tomorrow uh so Higg is out of the question so that leaves Colby Parkinson Hunter long Davis Allen Miller forestall uh ni NOA kalanick and Neil Johnson the number one tight end on the Rams right now in my mind is Kobe Parkinson they paid him as such I think he's the number one tight end with Higg out I think after that is Davis Allen I think he did enough towards the end of the year down the stretch to really show hey you can trust me you can believe in me Stafford believed in him he definitely trusted him a bit um and I think the Rams are going to feel really good about that selection in the fifth round out of Clemson from last year's draft he'll be number two number three here surprisingly Hunter long is still on the roster this is his last last year of course under contract he suffered a season eding injury last year he really hasn't been able to stay healthy but there's not a lot of options so I'm going to put him at three number four I'm going to put nicool kalanick number uh uh number five excuse me I'm going to put Miller forestall number six I'm going to put udfa Neil Johnson so those are the tight ends moving on to the offensive line we all know that the starting five Jonah Jackson is going to be your left guard aler Jackson's going to be your left tackle Center is Steve Ula Uh Kevin doson is Your Right Guard and Rob havenstein is your right tackle but what happens after that what comes after that well your backup left tackle who can kind of play All Over The Line Joe no boom no-brainer he took a pay cut but he's still making enough money where they're gonna have to rely on him as the sixth man if you will um back up to Jonah Jackson here ourlads has KT leveston okay I like that I'm going to roll with KT leveston here I think that does make a lot of sense I like him on the left side I could see him play on the right side I like him on the left side here uh so leveston uh left guard Center Bo limmer backup center to Steve avula I know they have Mike McAllister they also have udfa Justin dck but I am going to go with Bo limmer here sixth round pick at Arkansas I like Arkansas uh you know Arkansas's Talent Bo Limer a lot very athletic um I think he has a chance to start someday just like leston so I'm gonna say he is the backup there Steve Ula um Kevin dodson's backup who is that gonna be well I'm gonna say it's Warren McLendon JR out of Georgia last year's fifth round pick I'm a big fan of his game overall and I think he definitely makes a lot of sense can play tackle can play guard but I think if doson were to go down Warren MCL and kicks in their Right Guard right tackle I still think the Logan bruss experiment is a thing so I'm going to say Logan bruss there backup right tackle to Rob havenstein um they moved him to tackle last year after drafting him to be a guard in the third round of 2022 draft uh bruss is listed as a Right Guard according to uh ourlads and they have Warren mclenon Jr list as a right tackle I would just flipflop them there uh third string left tackle I'm gonna go with Zack Thomas a guy who started games at left tackle over AJ R Curry so I'd have those potentially flipped although I'd move R Curry to right tackle so he'd be the third string right tackle I'd have Zack Thomas as the third string left tackle and then backup guard uh third string guard there uh behind Jonah and of course leveston I think it'd be like Grant Miller it doesn't really matter at that point those guys are kind of just they played all different positions you're not going to have a third string for every single offensive line um and then Blake Larson could very well be a right tackle left tackle you know depth pee and as well as uh you know Mike McAllister third string Center Justin dck uh so you know that's that with the offensive line we move on to the defensive side of the ball okay so the defense side of the ball here uh little intriguing because they added so much okay they really did a nice job going out and getting pieces for the defense let's talk about the defensive line okay as you can see Braden Fisk is your starter now would Braden Fisk start day one is the question and I'm gonna say he would okay I think right now I think the Rams would throw him right into the fire they traded up 12 spots again they gave up lot to get him he is somebody that has played five years in college um you know was at Western Michigan for most of it then went to FSU I mean Florida state did not lose a game when he and Jared verse were on the field and there's a reason for that they were really dominant they were disruptive so I think Fisk would play day one I think he'd start then next to him Bobby Brown uh your nose tackle Bobby Brown III I think he's going to have a big year this year Kobe Turner next to him that's your starting three guys on your defensive line after that desan Johnson would be the backup to Braden Fisk as the website shows I think nose tackle I'm G to pass on larl merchison I don't think merchon would be a nose tackle there I think merchon would probably be the backup to Kobe Turner and I think Tyler Davis would probably be the nose tackle backup in addition to that Cory Duran would also be the backup to the nose tackle and then you have tul Tuli L gasa I I don't even know how to say his name uh it's a long name we'll just call him Tuli for now Tuli Anthony goodlow and uh David uh oiga um those are udfas that you know I think end of the day probably aren't going to make the roster uh there's a lot in the the defensive line room those are guys that are just depth pieces that could play either way so that's how the depth chart looks I think then you look at outside linebacker Jared versus starting day one I have no doubt about it uh Byron young is starting across from him so you have those two then you have Michael Hoy as the priority backup there who could also play on the defensive line in the trenches so that's something to keep in mind Osan maass I think would probably be the backup to Byron young Nick Hampton Brennan jacks so I think what we're going to see early on if today they started and they played a game today verse is going to start Byron young is starting uh across from him Michael hoiter backup I think I'm actually gonna say Brennan Jackson would be the backup uh to Byron young then you would have that third wave the third string guys you'd have Nick Hampton and Osan matthys and then after that Kier Thomas and Zack van valkenberg to wrap that up inside linebackers here obviously the Rams don't use inside linebacker two inside linebackers the majority of the game they like to play a lot of nickel they like to use the star nickel back roll whatever you want to call it slot Corner um so with that said you know Christian Rose boom would start next to Ernest Jones uh the fourth if they're in the two linebacker alignment however if they're not then Ernest Jones is the guy and that's that's that so Christian roseboom would be uh linebacker 2 I think linebacker three would be uh Jacob hmel okay and then I think Troy reader would be four and after that I think I would go with olakunle fasi and then after that I would go with Omar Spates the udfa and then Elias Neil after that so those are the linebackers at cornerback looks like the starters are going to be Darius Williams and travius white okay behind Darius Williams is Kobe Durant behind travius white I think is Darion Kendrick but a third string guy behind Kobe Durant I think is Cam McCutchen Trey Tomlinson is behind Darion Kendrick so I do like that um I think the depth chart gets that right behind cam McCutchen Josh Wallace Charles Woods um cam lampin the ud as that you know could make an impact but as of right now I wouldn't imagine them being pretty high in the depth chart at all so that leaves us with uh Nickelback or star and safety so the star role I know it's been debated is it going to be Cameron curl is it going to be Quinton Lake I'm just going to roll Quinton Lake here I feel like Lake you know played it last year I think he'll play it again I don't know how much he loves that role uh but I do think that's the role that he'll be asked to do Shawn Jolly is behind him of that you know kind of Do-it all guy in the secondary also helps on special teams your safeties you would have Cameron curl and Russ yeast now to be fair I have gone on record saying I believe Cameron kinchin and Cameron curl will be your starting safties why do I not have that yet because I think it's still time for Cameron Cameron kinchin is not as old as verse he's not as old as Fisk he's above his years he's Beyond his years but he's not quite as experiences those guys for me to say throw them right in the fire they'd start day one even if today was day one but kinchin would be the back up there he'd be that third safety Jason Taylor the second would be behind Russ yeast so I really like the way this depth chart looks for the most there are some things I would change but seeing our LS has Kenny Logan Jr Tanner Engel last year's preseason standout and Jaylen mcauliff I I like what we see there at safety so that leaves us with the special teams or Specialists if you will uh obviously punter's going to be Ethan Evans kicker's going to be joshu Mardi Tanner Brown backing him up uh Long Snapper Alex Ward although they're taking it easy on him so I don't even know if he would be the Long Snapper because you know he is coming off a serious injury at the end of last year um Ethan Evans would obviously be the kickoff guy uh or maybe he wouldn't maybe Josh wardi would either way uh you have that and then your punt returner it says Williams and Sam wiggas I'm going to push back on that as well as kick returner Ronnie Rivers I'm going to say the punt returner I mean if we got all these guys right we're talking 90 man roster not 53 90 man the punt returner is Exavier Smith right here okay that's a no-brainer if you could keep him roster he's your pun returner I'd say honorable mention would go to Jordan winning but kick returner is absolutely without a doubt Boston Scott I think it's why they brought him in obviously he can help as a running back he offers some things uh you know to differentiate the the the running back room diversify the running back room but the reality of the situation is that he is a very good kick returner and now kick returning matters in the NFL because of the new rules and and kind of just pushing more uh kick bur so with that said P returner in this sense if today started you know if it started right now first game of the year for the Rams and we're talking about them having all 90 men roster absolutely Xavier Smith is your pun returner kick returner would be Boston Scott now that is the Rams depth chart okay I think it's fairly simple I think it's fairly simple I think you know looking at uh our Lads I think they got it right for the most part there are some things i' flip around like we talked about the these two right here but the reality is it is pretty straightforward depth chart okay the Rams have a pretty big idea of who's going to play what and you know who's going to start who would not start and keep in mind I did it from the standpoint of the depth chart as it stands right now this is what I would think the depth chart would be right now okay this could change they could add somebody I wouldn't be surprised I've said it many times wouldn't be surprised if they brought back a Kell Witherspoon um you know and moov travius white as like a slot corner I wouldn't be shocked okay but the reality is that right now if we are looking at this team and we're looking at this depth chart and it's going into a game and say they played a game today this is what it would look like for the most part so those are my thoughts uh rowski I see your um I definitely see your comment there is Ronnie Rivers making the this team I don't think so I think Zack Evans makes it over him um so there's that and then 52 man roster saving a spot for 80s return I would say no um if if Aaron Donald does come back they're not going to have to save a roster spot for him that will be something down the road that will be at the end of the year that will be going into the playoffs if that happens I know not a lot of people want to hear this I've already accepted defeat he's he's gone okay I don't think he comes back I wouldn't be shocked if he did but I'm not like counting on it and to be honest with you I think this team can win the Super Bowl regardless so there's that um Oddball 57 Hey Jake are you joining us
