hey everybody it's Mark again and um my friend Robert Lindsay um has been trying to um um post this video to Facebook but for some reason he's not able to so he's sending me it in pors so um this is him using mother to polish clock movements and look how beautiful that movement wheel is so uh let's let him talk monin asked me to do a video of what I you let me go back all right everybody Mark monin asked me to do a video of uh what I use to polish the brass movement for clocks and the stuff that I use is Mother's mag and aluminum polish you can pick this up at most auto part stores Carriage centers wherever Walmart um Walmart might carry it I've never looked there but anyway this is the stuff that I use I like it better than semic Chrome or the brass o any of that stuff this works a lot faster it actually has a protective COA on it chemical in it that protects the brass you can use it on anything you want to polish metal with it does a great job I'm going to do a little demonstration on an old brass mov I use for parts and all I did was uh disassemble it took a the plate over to the sink washed it with some good soap or good detergent and pretty good hot water to try to get all the oil off you want to get as much oil off as you can it makes it a lot easier for the polishing so uh here here we go I'm going to give you a quick demonstration uh hope you like it this stuff is like a white uh it's almost like whipped cream and it's very easy I use a Q-tip so I can control how much area I want to clean at one time I'll do small areas at a time and then it'll go over the whole thing in again just to make sure I got it good so all you do is uh apply it with the Q-tip run it out as much as I can and you need to look at that Q-tip often because working it into the surface I'm not pressing very hard when the Q-tip turns black you need to turn your Q-tip [Music] over black is good as you can see some spots are tarnish worse than others so it might take two or three attempts to get it to polish out and get cleaned out I'll just keep working it back and forth a little [Music] [Applause] bit as you can see it's already starting to eat away at the tarish then I'll start rubbing it a little bit harder push it down into the the Machining marks um some of these plates have a forer Machining marks so it takes a little more effort to get down inside of them to get them cleaned out good you see how his Q-tip is turning black a lot better than others that means it's cleaning the brass the plates and the [Music] parts but you can see it's already starting to do its thing by polishing I just rub it back and forth this stuff is really easy to work with if you don't like getting the black on your fingers and stuff I'd suggest wearing latex gloves [Applause] [Music] there's a dark spot right here that'll eventually come [Applause] [Music] out all right everybody Mark m and that was uh part one so uh I need to get to part two after you're done all your polishing clean it all out really really good take it over to the sink or your Ultra silent cleaner and you just need some good warm soapy water to clean out the residue of the clean compound that gives you an idea what it's going to look like and here's some of the gears that I've done already look how much that shines it polishes the the bare metal too I mean it it turns it into Chrome all your uh pins and everything even on the pivot now he doesn't have an ultrasonic cleaner everything and so he uses stuff along with dish soap as you said at the beginning he washes it off really well and then he polishes every part and um his clocks are up and running and this is how he clean his movements you can see how nice it it polishes them right up like I said it's got a contains a protective uh coating so it do it won't oxidize like it normally does so this could go for the to you know you don't have to do it until the next time you really service the clock you know you take the moving back out and everything that's that GE here's the crotch and The Verge that I did and you can see how it cleans up that inside everything the fly [Music] [Applause] pan I get it right into the lanterns and uh and after I get done polishing and all up I'll clean all the lanterns and stuff out even the gear teeth with a toothpick go in there and just get every bit of that residue I can and I wash it [Music] the soap and water and dry it and if it's looks a little dull I just take the Q-tip and um polish it off with a clean Q-tip you don't have to use any more of this stuff that's what they'll look like like I said it does it polishes all the the metal up too the bare metal the brass and [Music] everything with the cleaner you got your brass before you polish the better the quicker it's going to go I take my time doing this so I want a nice job there's The Verge wheel and that land inside everything and this is just a parts movement inside the [Music] teeth really works good great stuff far as I'm concerned the only thing I'll use [Music] and like I said that's uh how to use it give it a shot let me know what you think and let Mark know he did a smack and Backer movement in this thing you could comb your hair in the movement it shined up like a mirror it's like anything else the longer you spend on it the better it's going to look okay people thank you for watching [Music] there it is do the other side that's after you done all your polishing
