good morning this is Mike with the National Weather Service with a special tropical weather briefing this September 9th 2024 all right as highlights we'll talk about the tropical storm Francine that is developed this morning over the Western Gulf the official track of Francine takes it toward our region over the next couple of days this will produce a wind a flooding rain and a tornado threat across our area as early as Wednesday and continuing through Thursday this particular graphic is one advisory too old because we weren't able to get the current advisory into this briefing but the current track or potential track area shows what I was talking about as far as tropical storm France scene developing over the gulf and it will recurve up the Texas coast intensify as a hurricane make landfall somewhere along the Louisiana coast and then track right across the aramus region this is the latest graphic for this briefing of the earliest reason able arrival time of any tropical storm force winds which look to occur Wednesday morning in our Southwest Mississippi zones and then progress through the day into Thursday across Mississippi our primary threat instead of wind and instead of tornadoes will be the flooding rain threat and this graphic shows the latest thinking where 4 to 6 Ines of rain in a short amount of time result in flash flooding across the southern portions of our County warning area with lighter amounts to the north but this graphic doesn't include the whole progression of the storm and as we go into Thursday and Thursday night the elevated threat area is expected to expand northward as the system goes northward so the elevated threat will depend on the actual track and intensity of tropical storm Francine so expect in later updates the elevated threat to be extended further north into our area this graphic shows the most likely storm total rainfall amounts and it also indicates what I was trying to allude to in the previous slide where our heaviest rainfall total rules once this system has progressed through our area would be 4 to 6 in with locally higher amounts and generally over the Western half of our County warning area with the lighter amounts across the Eastern portions of our area there will be a tornado threat and this is the latest marginal risk outlook for our area that incorporates Wednesday but the system will be progressing across Mississippi on Thursday so the marginal risk area will also be extended northward and most likely Encompass the eastern half of Mississippi with this threat there will be a damaging wind gust threat but the most likely threat will be these spin-up tornadoes associated with tropical landfalling systems to summarize what a briefing I just mentioned was tropical storm Francine has developed this morning over the Western Gulf it's currently forecast a track around Texas around the Texas coast and over our region over the next couple of days this will produce a wind a flooding rain and a tornado threat across our area Wednesday extending through Thursday as it lifts all the way up into northern Mississippi and Tennessee additional daily briefings will be held but likely later than 10: a.m. this concludes the special tropical storm briefing and as always thanks for viewing
