The Chill: Father's Day Ep. 3 | Craig Kimbrel, James McCann, Danny Coulombe & Corbin Burnes

Intro Craig ell James mccan Danny kulum Corbin burs and this is the chill Father's Day [Music] Edition this is how [Music] CH this is how [Music] CH this is how we ch [Music] this is how CH have any of your sons said they want Family Business to be a professional baseball player yet if so have you tried to get them throw Lefty I'll start uh both of my kids say they want to be professional baseball players you know we have the the little boards like first day of school take a picture with him fill out like favorite color and the date and whatever what do you want to be when you grow up well basically since they were in preschool it was always a baseball player I think two years ago Kane wanted to be Spider-Man and a baseball player we didn't have the heart to tell him he can't be Spider-Man um and Christian wanted to be Batman a chef and a baseball player they kind of stayed the same and then this year we pulled them out for them to look at it Christian kind of looked at it he's like I can't beat Batman so they finally figured fig out they can be Batman Spider-Man but they still they still want to be professional baseball players they almost act like baseball is not even a sport if you ask them their favorite sport usually they'll say football or basketball um baseball's just kind of what they do just just life life um but yeah Lefty I haven't they don't throw Lefty but since they've been three they've been able to play ball in the house now they are too big to play ball in the house but I did make a rule where if they want to play they can hit Lefty with a foam ball they can't hit righty anymore but they can pitch to each other and hit Lefty so uh both of them will hit Lefty in the house and then when I get out on the field they'll hit righty so for me um yeah my my son is going to be he's going to accomplish a lot of things in life CU he said he's going to be a doctor a professional baseball player and for some reason he wants to play for the Pittsburgh Pirates I don't know why but he told me he's going to play for the Pirates he wants to be a superhero so yeah he's going to be have a pretty crazy life as far as the left-handed thing um It's actually kind of funny um our kid our kids were all hanging out um a few days ago and I bought a left-handed glove because you know I'm I'm being a left-hander like you kind of Hope um and all the kids were looking at it like it was a foreign object they're like what do you do with this like this is not a baseball glove this goes on the wrong hand so no my kid I've tried to push him to be left-handed but I mean nope didn't work yeah my son he's still a little too young um he just turned two a couple months ago so he's still uh he's still into you farm animals and and sticker books and and all that so he's he's slowly getting into sports you know when he does go back he he'll he'll hit off the te a little bit most of the swings are left-handed so maybe we've got some hope there but um everything he does is is right-handed picks up a ball right I everything he does is right-handed so um I think the only hope I have is maybe to to keep him from the left side of the plate but um yeah we that's still uh still TVD there I'm kind of in the same boat my my son just turned two and I think right now if you ask pretty much anybody he's going to be a Monster Jam truck driver and uh so that's all he's into right now but no he loves it he's he's at the perfect cage age where he's come to games and he can't take his eyes off the field he's he's mimicking everybody his running form is perfect cuz all he does is Watch professional athletes run so um but no he's he's eating it up and doesn't hasn't told me he wanted wants to play yet but if that if that time comes you know give them the best opportunity and see what can happen all right with a lot of young Veteran Presence guys on this team how does the fields be considered a father figure in the clubhouse man if some of these guys were my kids I I'd pull my hair trying to chase around cower when he was a young kid just trying to chase him around now is enough but um no it's it's fun obviously this is probably most veteran guys we've we've got on the team are in here and yeah I think they I think they keep us young with the energy they bring to the clubhouse and some of the stuff they do you just shake your head out cuz it's not something you would think of doing but um it's just it's kind of normal for them so you just kind of kind of roll with it and go along with it and make fun of them and and move on oh I get reminded I'm the old guy every day no it's I mean just going off what corpin said it's it's fun um been playing this game for a long time so having guys with questions and eagerness and new and you know the excitement of going to a new city or new ballpark or new situations you know always having that um it's fun to see and fun to be around uh shoot I at the end of the day I think we're all kids at heart I've said this for a long time I think your most successful teams have a a good blend of young guys and Veteran guys the veteran guys kind of keep the young guys in line and and point the right direction the young guys keep the old guys youthful um not so so grouchy um I think I think it's crazy because I I feel like I blinked and I went from that 23 24y old kid to you know now in my my 10th season um it happens fast and I you know I treasure every every year every day um and I hope that you know 10 years from now when the guys that are in our clubhouse that are 23 24 look back on us as veterans and say man you know I want to take what they did and and be that way for for their their teams and their veterans yeah you know you try to be the avoid the guy that's like oh back in my day you know um but you know we all debuted 10 years ago you were in 17 16 18 18 yeah so like I'm the young guy yeah you're the young guy here um but no it's just like it's it's I I remember specifically like the impact that a lot of veterans had on me when I first came up just teaching me honestly how to be a big league player um you know I I can remember the JP hows uh guys in the bullpen that just like kind of took me under under their wing and said hey like don't do this do this and you know I think especially as men make men want guidance and then want to be you know LED in that way and I think that like this is such a good group of young players that like they listen they do the right things and obviously there's some clowns on this team you know Grayson and and cower are awesome and they're they're great for a club house and they keep us young but they also need direction and guidance and sometimes be like dude don't do that like don't do that you know and that but that's that's like that's with most young guys I think that um we've all been through it uh we've all done stupid things and and you know I think that it's a great mix on this team it's one of the best I've SE I've been Dad Stories around embarrassing stories yeah I got I do have one so I enjoy the fish um my daughter really enjoys the fish kind of like me and her Hobby and uh last spring training kind of a a drier winter so all the ponds were kind of down and and fishing was tough and uh we went to dinner with one of my friends the first question he asked was Lady you and daddy been fishing and she goes oh fish don't bite he was like what do you mean and I was like well I've been taking her fish and we hadn't caught a fish and so the fish just aren't biting so we hadn't caught one all spring training and um of course she had has to throw me under the bus and say that I'm I'm not a very good fish guide and she needs somebody else to take her fish and I think that's what she was doing at dinner was like asking my my friend Mike if she would he would take her fishing cuz I wasn't uh I wasn't doing the job that's pretty embarrassing at the moment cuz I knew exactly what she meant even though she was sweet and she was nice about it kids will tell you tell you how it is yeah we walked into a bathroom once at at a restaurant and like Theo's like I think somebody's pooping in and you're just like yep yep yeah you know the guys sit in the stall probably like wow this is embarrassing Yeah just they say the darest things don't they it's like a couple years ago uh I was with the Mets and it was just us in the car so it wasn't other people around but um I was actually on the injured list at the time so we had an off day I had to go in for treatment so I I brought the boys with me and let them go swimming in the hot tub and whatever else that they did in there as we're leaving you know there's no one there it was just me and the trainer as we're leaving I forget who said what but one of them said uh are you going to sign autographs today he like no there's not any fans here and he's and they're like well why do you sign autographs anyways and I try to explain to them that you know people collect memorabilia and blah blah blah and gets quiet in the car and one of them says yeah but Daddy you're just sort of good you're not really good so why do they want your autograph and I's like well I don't have a banner on the stadium so Theo always walks around he's like you're like not as good as adley and Gunner is like they have a banner like that makes you good that that makes them like they're like 10 Stars you're like six or seven so thanks I love you kid and then after they're trying to like brainstorm they're like maybe you should use Pete Alonzo's bat that Bat gets homewor like you think it's the bat that does the homework you think it's the player he's like the bat for sure I think I think that's what I'm probably looking forward to the most is when you my son he's still a little bit young I'll bring him in the clubhouse when when I can but um coming up we talked about guys you know veteran guys that have kids running through the clubhouse and a lot of them all have their favorite players on the team and most of the time it's not their dad right you always walk in oh this guy's my favorite player this guy's my favorite player so it's funny like you hear all these kids it's like oh you know let's let's go see gunar gunar is my favorite player and you're like you know what the heck like I'm right here like so I I I can't wait to when I get to the point of my son being like hey I have favorite players like all right who you going to pick that I then have to go talk to after the game like he I need should not be so good so maybe he'll pick Dad one these days it kind of scares me though like being so direct go Joseph's going to be like hey why didn't you guys that ball hey why' you swing that Christian asked me matter I swung that slider off of Kelly from the race I like man that was a good pitch and G said why'd you swing Buzz H batters box thanks Fatherly Advice coach what would be your advice to any upcoming father and I would probably say it goes fast it goes really fast um the days are really long but like the years are short and I mean we talk about all the time like just like enjoy the little things like take like enjoy the even like the hard things that come like first of all every every new parent is dealing with those things but like really just like take time just to really enjoy the time with your kids cuz it flies I me I can't believe my kids are 5 and two already like it feels like just yesterday my oldest one was born so it time flies yeah I would agree um I think some of the the the the quotes that I think hit me the most are the ones that you you never know when it's going to be that your kid's last time he does that certain thing my son just being potty train my wife cuz I I think I just changed my son's last diaper like now I've got I've got more kids on the way so I'm curious to hear how some of you guys deal with multiple kids but um you know for for me it's just like you don't realize how quickly they they grw out of something um how something they used to do was was so funny that now they don't do it anymore so it's it's you have those memories back on so um yeah like like Danny said just just take every moment with a grain of salt and and cherish it and know that it might be the last time that your son or daughter might do that um but it's just it's crazy how fast they how fast they grow up yeah I mean don't really expect anything I mean think in in our minds we're like you know you have certain things like it's going to be like this it's going to be like that I'm going to do this I'm going to do that but it's really got to take it as it comes comes um there's so many things that you learn things that kind of just come out of nowhere and you have to deal with them um as they come and really yeah like you said just enjoy your kids enjoy the time like as much as we're gone like you really you really start learning to enjoy that time putting your phone down just being with them um engaging with them being in their face um those kind of things um I mean you enjoy them you love them you walk in the room and like I'm going to handle whatever is is is thrown my way today um I think we we do it in our job it's it's no different than you know being a father um there there are things that are going to come up that you don't think you can handle but you can and uh you know don't don't run away from it stay stay right there in it it's the most enjoyable thing I've I've ever done I mean I think if you can put the effort into your children that you put into to what we do I think uh I think that's that's all you have to do yeah I think the the big thing is is cherishing each and every day um each and every moment you one thing I talk about for us is how many different hats we wear we wear the the ball player hat while we're here we wear the the husband hat when we go home for our wives we wear the the dad hat for our kids you know I think one of the coolest things for us is you know I go home and and my kids are starting to understand but for the most part they don't care if I'm 0 for four or four for four or you know the team won the team lost I mean they're starting to pick up on things like that but when I go home they they just want Dad they don't want the ball player hat on they want the dad hat on they want um me down on the floor wrestling with them and and playing Legos and whatever maybe even it's just sitting on the couch watching a movie um you know I can think of times where they want to watch a movie and and we do a family movie night and I pull on my phone to do something and you know hey put your phone away we're watching a movie yeah you're right I need to you know be all in on this I I just think about you know I wish I could go back to when they were two and three and and the the memories that I have from then um but you can't do that so you cherish each and every moment and something that I would say is is take as many photos and videos as you can uh I'm not a big take pictures guy and I go back and I I wish that I had more videos I wish that I I wish I had videos of them talking more when they were two and three and you know be able to laugh at the words that they how they used to pronounce things there's just nothing nothing better than being a dad I mean I I think of like no matter how the game went like my wife tells me that my oldest son is waiting for me he's always got an eye out where I walk out cuz he's always just waiting to see Dad and run to me and that's like I don't know how you guys feel about my kids run to me after the game like Daddy Daddy like I don't know that's one of my favorite that's probably that is the F my favorite moment of the day um kids are just such a blessing and uh just really enjoy it and cherish it yeah I mean my I'm I've spent most of your away from my uh my wife and son cuzz my wife's pregnant so just um the the thing I look forward to every night after the game is getting home and FaceTiming them get to see them both the first thing I do after the day I pitch is I go in and my wife's already sent me a video for my son go d da like it's the same video every time but it's still it's it's the first thing I look forward to doing when I when I get done pitching and like you say just be being a dad is probably for me one of the biggest accomplishments that I've had in my life when you talking about phones man iPhones will get you I'll be getting ready for a game and like what is this I got to go get ready like this is how we ch [Music]
