thank you very much for joining me I'm meteorologist Brian Shields Ernesto is out there as a hurricane Gilma now in the Eastern Pacific very active in the Eastern Pacific plus I want to take a look at some of the possible development down the road that will approach the Caribbean so plenty to cover with the tropics let's get to that and you see Ernesto here it weakened to a tropical storm then it hit a little warm patch of water and it rest strengthen into a hurricane back into a hurricane it actually looks healthier now than really it ever has winds right now on this are running at about 85 mph that's about 137 km an hour of course it was Stronger near Bermuda but as far as the asymmetry with it how it's looking it looks very healthy which is not something we like but the good news with this is it is staying on track just kind of uh the center will be to the south of newfinland just to the southeast of say the Avalon Peninsula so tracking all of that all on track for us as we get toward the Atlantic region of Canada and then it gets tied up here in the North Atlantic and works its way as a Wind Maker later this week to Ireland and the UK not a hurricane obviously at that point but you see it here and it's amazing how everything is tied together why do things come off of Africa well the global trade winds uh other locations you say why does stuff come from Canada that's what Europe says that's where it comes across here just that Global pattern those Trade Winds how they kind of circulate around the earth so that's the pattern and everything tied in this here started over here kind of worked its way up again toward Puerto Rico the US British Virgin Islands Bermuda now getting very close to a New Finland just on the south side and then it gets tied up here and then makes its way toward the UK and toward uh Ireland with some Gusty winds uh they'll see some of that later this week tropical storm winds and then just going out in time here it's that overall circulation that we're always tracking so as we get into the upcoming weekend I'll be watching out for one strong tropical wave here and another one coming off kind of a piece of the future development these that start to come off this weekend I do believe will start to develop so we're going to see some development late month that will once again be sliding across then we'll see if it kind of curls up or if it just works its way right through the Caribbean but we've got a lot of bigger tropical waves to track uh as we get over the next week or two but there it is there is Ernesto tropical storm conditions tropical storm wind gust uh extreme Southeastern sections of New Finland for tonight uh as we work our way into midnight and just a couple hours after that and then by tomorrow morning it will accelerate it will move away of course the higher Seas coold still flooding with a threat but you see tomorrow morning that is out of there and of course watching the heavier rain there's some historic rain in parts of Connecticut and New York has got over toward Long Island last night with a lot of water rescues very Dynamic what's going on this time of year with the fronts and the Tropics so here are the stronger winds hurricane force winds right now on the east side of the Eastern kind of eyewall with this they'll start to lessen and you see the strongest winds that red shading 110 kilm an hour or 70 m per hour will stay just here St John's will stay just offshore but some of the Winds could be around 50 mph 80 km an hour those will be some of the gusts so what we've been highlighting over the last several days everything has stayed right on track keeping this to the south of Nova Scotia Prince Edward Island Cape Breton uh we did not need anything uh working in so again things stayed to the South there but watching it just kind of skirting by Southeastern sections of uh New Finland now we've had some scattered showers and storms around we've had a couple over toward Honduras down toward Nicaragua this morning and look at the Eastern Pacific these blobs uh just a ton going on here here's Mexico now this here we have Gilma which is now a tropical storm winds at 50 mph or 80 km an hour this was there's the Baja this will stay away from Mexico as it moves out but those other tropical waves I showed you could eventually make a run at Hawaii so here here's Hawaii for example here is Mexico here's California right here and watching uh Gilma right in here and you see the just a lot of action things are going to kind of wind up as we go over the next couple days so taking you out in time all of this action of course kind of working its way off toward the west part of those global trade winds how everything kind of slides to the West it's just a matter of kind of when it curls to the north Gilma will get stronger it will become a hurricane but a couple more spins around and look at that one this is by the time we get into the upcoming weekend hard to tell if it'll kind of work its way into Hawaii by next week or stay just to the South but you could see more action out here in the Pacific and when the Pacific's a little more active the Eastern Pacific usually the Atlantic's a bit quieter and we are in that little quiet period now in the Atlantic before things crank up again in a week now uh mentioned Ernesto on the Atlantic side well the eame on the Eastern Pacific side that was ailia then there was fa Fabio and now we have Gilma out there the next name on the list is Hector so a different set of names when you work your way out to the Eastern Pacific now we get back here here we are in the Caribbean watching these tropical waves not seeing development out of those there's just so much dry air out there in stable air so the showers and storms can't build up and that is a good thing I don't wish a hurricane on anyone I've seen so many lives uh and livelihood just get ripped apart uh with these over the years uh so not seeing development shortterm but we are going to start to see some development eventually when those stronger waves that I mentioned earlier in the video start to move off so I expect some development in through here late August we'll see if it works its way into the Caribbean or tries to make a curl and every now and then the models show either off the southeast of the US or in the Gulf of Mexico some areas of rain and storms that may hint at development so also watching that spot as we get into later uh this month so a lot of activity short term watching out for some areas of rain and storms and so very hot if you get a thunderstorm it could be strong but if you don't get anything we're looking at just dealing with that hot weather spotty showers and storms we got a couple tropical waves moving in but nothing big and no uh big signs of development this is our afternoon you see on Cuba uh Tuesday afternoon a couple of showers and storms possible Trinidad Tobago and a few more flaring up over toward the yucatana Mexico and B we'll have some scattered showers and storms Panama Costa Rica also seeing that as we work our way into our Wednesday forecast of course the sea is very much elevated North Atlantic over toward uh parts of Canada those swells though the dangerous rip currents those higher seas and a bit choppier as we get over toward the central portion of the Caribbean the next few days this is by tomorrow on our Tuesday and then moving forward into Wednesday same thing and seeing a little uh uh increase in some of the Seas near Antiga in Barbuda as we work our way into our Wednesday forecast looking at the rain the rain totals not a lot some of these brighter colors showing up that's if you happen to get a thunderstorm moving in where we could get 50 millim of rain or 2 Ines of rain but Jamaica Cayman Islands passing showers storm for us same thing anguila St Martin St Parts guadaloop a limited chance of rain we have tropical waves moving in but there's just not a lot with them so rain chance is not going to be high if you get a quick little passing shower 10 to 25 mm of rain maybe half of an inch to about an inch of some rain things have quieted down Guyana seram back toward Northeastern Venezuela ABC islands not a lot but in through here parts of Central America we'll see some scattered showers and storms some spots will get 75 millimet of rain or 3 Ines of rain over the next few days and it's quite a down around Mexico City still the chance of some scattered showers but not as much as about a week ago so you see that rain chance pretty minimal for us over toward Montego Bay Kingston we swing back toward gr Cayman the Cayman rain chance stays small as we get over toward Trinidad and Tobago 30% chance 40% chance for tomorrow minimal chance as well in Barbados isolated shower as we get towards St Lucia and about a 30% chance over the next three days in Grenada little bit higher St Vincent the Grenadines 40% chance of a passing shower minimal chance today in martinque 20 to 30% chance the next two days in Dominica and just a 30% chance in guadaloop little bit higher by Wednesday 20 to 30% chance in tigga and Barbuda and a 20 to 30% chance in kitas and monzerat small rain chance the next couple days Anguilla and St Barts and a small chance of rain St Martin San station enjoy the sunshine but again we have that heat around isolated afternoon storm 40% chance in Puerto Rico by Wednesday rain chance goes up a little higher by the middle of the week us and British Virgin Islands 30 to 40% chance as we work our way through the Bahamas Turks and ciko sunny conditions 20 to 30% chance of a pop-up storm Dominican Republic 20 to 30% chance of a popup storm as we work our way into Haiti believe some scattered showers and storms 30 to 40% chance let me know in the comments if you get one Aruba Kira boner mainly the dry conditions with a lot of sunshine uh the next at least several days and that rain chance has really cut back Guyana in suram we're looking at a 20 to 30% chance of a passing shower 30 to 40% chance some afternoon thunderstorms possible in Cuba rain chance still about 50 to 60% scattered about Costa Rica and Panama 40 to 50% chance in Nicaragua and we've already seen some showers on huras Eastern sections uh from this morning we'll see about a 50% chance for today 40 to 50% chance the next couple days Guatemala and El Salvador and you see that rain chance down some a 40% chance in Mexico City you about a 40% chance of some scattered showers 20 to 30% chance in Northern Columbia and we're looking at about a 20 to 30% chance in Northern vene vuela in Bermuda watching the higher Seas the action with Ernesto up to the north so Ernesto making its final move near New Finland then it gets tied up into a front loses its tropical characteristics brings a lot of rain toward Ireland and the UK Eastern Pacific the activity is climbing we have Gilma out there uh there should be Hector soon and there may be an eventual threat even to Hawaii watching Africa I mentioned a couple waves now but it's the bigger ones that will eventually come off later this week that will pose the threat of some development and then we'll just see and we'll track it storm by storm where that may go so I hope you're doing well getting good news in the comments about a lot of us getting some power back on keep me posted on how you're doing always thinking of you and have a good day ahead
