welcome to Wednesday's episode and edition of Miami Harolds Dolphins in depth podcast I'm your host Dolphins Comm Omar Kelly joined by the illustrious Barry Jackson from sub what an intro I'm getting used to these intros I love it uh not too many of these training camp practices left only four more after the day that we're allowed to see but today something promising happened tell us yeah uh we have been watching and waiting for uh J Phillips who says he's being teased by getting into individual drills but not being allowed to participate in 11 on 11s he has done 11 on 11 walkthroughs but nothing live until today uh today was the first day that Jaylen Phillips who's coming back from that Achilles heel injury stepped into 11 on1 work and it wasn't a walk through it was actually live practice Live pass rushing uh saw him pressure to a tongue of aloa on one play to a scrambled out of the pressure um that's something he's been doing more often lately um I don't know if this is going to translate to the real game uh he's he's back to his Alabama days of skirting around and and and scrambling out of pressure um but yeah Jaylen Phillips is live in action um the question Barry is will he participate in the joint practices against the Washington commanders on tomorrow that will be fascinating but he looks spry he looks active he looks fast he looks like a guy who can help you on a pitch count on September 8th against Jacksonville I will be surprised at this point if he doesn't play and it's exciting to see because we all know jayen Phillips was coming into his own before that injury on Black Friday against the Jets I remember what Chris Collins were told me when he came out of the draft he says this guy is going to be a star impact player in Collins W's view he was the best defensive player in that draft we know the athleticism we know the unique skill set I'm excited to see what he becomes this year and it's going to be such a big year for him his fifth year option has already been picked up obviously but he will command a long-term contract if he comes back and come back strong so to me that's one of the more interesting things of the next week but it was a dominant day I thought in general for the group of front seven players Brandon py uh made an impression today as he battles for the job to back up bito Jones Emanuel ogba had another sack Zack sealer to me has had very under the radar great Camp Omar AB he was in the defensive back field again today so I'm encouraged what we've seen it was an off day for Kus Campbell he's done enough right you don't need to see him anymore today hold on I I think I need to see him in the joint practice tomorrow Barry I I don't I gave I think he got today off so that he could be rested in and Prime for tomorrow we know he's not going to play in the exhibition season I'm making a not Weaver I'm saying Omar says we need we must see Kus tomorrow I'm passing that on oh okay you know what was funny because I remember going into Houston I I made that same edict for uh Toronto Armstead and then that was the practice that he got injured so I I'm sometimes I I get a little bit yeah sometimes I get a little bit uh impatient here and and certain Pros the reality is we know what they're going to bring to the table let's not push it and and and run run the tread off their tires uh cus I thought he started out camp slow and he looked slow um but I'm sorry maybe it takes a 17-year vet some time to get a little greased up uh in terms of the action uh Jordan puyer as well he's another guy that's not going to be part participating in the joint practices he hasn't participated in past two weeks because he's got a club on his right hand um with a thumb injury he here's the thing that very find very interesting about what's happening right now do you realize that only ker coo is the starting is a starting player heading into those joint practices who's practicing and working uh this week so it's ker coo and a barrage of backups that are going to be taking on the Washington commanders not only in the joint practice but also in Saturday's exhibition game yes there injuries all over the secondary McDaniel suggested today that Jaylen Ramsay's issue that is sidelined him all week is nothing serious wouldn't elabor on what it is obviously Ethan Bonner as I've reported has shown concussion symptoms so he's being held out we haven't seen him at all this week uh even eyeballed him he's probably inside as he should be with a concussion Javon Holland is nicked up again McDaniel suggested it wasn't anything serious but it's worrisome to see that there have continued to be health issues I'm not calling injury prone he's a terrific young player we all wish for the best for him but you just hope he can maintain his health I guess there going to be more opportunities for backups Isaiah Johnson the rookie corner from Syracuse who is your favorite Corner among the yeah why why you say that name first he's growing on me he's growing on me he made two terrific plays in coverage today inside the bubble he now is emerging as maybe the best of the three young Corners Jason matry made another play today which like that I think stor storm duck has done well Jason matri has done well I think he's actually the the the the guy who's performed probably the worst of the three but I just see that length I see that athleticism I'm intrigued by that and two good plays in The End Zone today so give him credit for that he had a play in the Atlanta game one of these three corners could make the 53 it would not stun me at all the dolphins love yes the Dolphins love these Corner projects they kept him Ethan Bonner obviously was a practice squad guy but played in the playoff over who Barry over who see at to to use a Jeff Ireland term if they see an acorn among Isaiah Johnson Jason matri and storm duck and feel that one of them is goingon to be claimed by Arizona or some Fringe team that has room on their 53 that could influence them I'm telling you don't be shocked if they keep one I'm not predicting they're keeping one I just think it's not out of the question so we're GNA see a lot of them on Saturday we will see a lot of them and somebody's going to have to shine for me to say that they're going to make the 53 I have stopped worrying and obsessing about waving a player trying to put him on the practice squad and somebody else claiming him name me somebody since Rob ninkovic who's actually been been a waiver wire gem that just got away and I saw your poll on Twitter about this so we started talking about this on the Pod yesterday about who is the player that they lost that they will forever regret and get in a fetal position crying for years and years I brought up ninkovic was there anyone else that came up in your Twitter poll I I could only think of um uh AJ Francis and then he'd been here for for days for years and remember the time the Patriots claimed him and then the Patriots let him go and he came back and you know he he he had a many cups of coffee with Miami he's a wrestler now um then we've got um Chris McCain you remember how enticing Chris McCain was he was a sack monster he terrorized quarterbacks he was Mr August he he was the August version of Reggie Jackson Mr October yeah and and and I think there was somebody else there was like a maybe Anthony Armstrong remember that wide receiver receiver yes everyone thought this is the next big thing that that didn't last long at all but I thought I thought AJ Francis was driving an Uber I he was driving in very early young careers then he became a WWF wrestler uh now he's wrestling for somebody somebody else uh AJ AJ's one of the most talented guys that I actually know um in in all arenas comedy Entertainment Sports rapping he's just a very multi-talented guy but but let's flip to the sub I'm not worried about anybody getting cut Barry Chris Brooks um who who Brandon peely I'm not worried about any of them if you want to claim my guy the team the players that don't my 53 who I'm trying to put on the practice squad oh so be it you know what I'm focus on Barry I'm trying to claim somebody else's Treasures as opposed to worrying about my treasures here savan ammed Chris Brooks um you know hell Mal Washington if you want him go claim him like I'm not gonna go that far I I want to keep Malik was but I will say this I bet you they're going to be two players on this 53 who are not on the team now and I'm telling you one of them is going to be an offensive line Chris Greer has to take a microscope a telescope anything any kind of scope you need and look at every single player cut and find an upgrade over your ninth and tth offensive lineman so that's one position now knowing you you would want a receiver over Malik Washington as your sixth unless ER kukama I want to invest in Eric kukama there there's something there there's a body there there's a body there that that that is so different than all of my other Smurf receivers um Jody forson is another guy Tanner Connor's another guy I don't know what's going to happen there both of them are injured right now I don't think I'm going to use an IR spot to return to to keep them on this roster so what's going to happen in that situation you've already got a solid three you've already got a solid Trio in terms of julan Hill he's been terrific Durham Smite uh Janu Smith dur uh Julian Hill they've been solid why would why would I be stressing about what's going to happen with Tanner Connor he you've waved them already nobody's claimed them nobody's poached them off your practice squad and I'm not saying that this guy doesn't have talent and I I won't have regret if somebody does claim him but I'm sorry Barry your job as Chris Greer is to assemble the best possible 53 man roster it's not about the future it's not about Patrick McMorris and what that guy could potentially do I'm keeping Marcus May over Patrick McMorris and you know why Barry because if something happens to my two injured injured players I'm I'm I got I gotta go to the veteran who's got 77 snaps I can't see here absolutely someone who's been an NFL defense who's made play call I'm totally with you on that I've I've become convinced Marcus May has to be on the team he's made plays this week in practice he brings experience he brings Savvy he brings knowledge he brings the ability to make play calls and the likelihood because of age is that there's a decent chance player will get hurt at some point during the season hopefully not same with Holland only the sense that he's had injury issues you hope both stay healthy but the likelihood is that you're not going to to get through a full season with both your safeties healthy every single game so I'm with you on Marcus may keep them you're likely keeping Elijah Campbell then you and I disagree about whether you keep MCM Morris as a fifth need him I'm keeping but counting him as a corner uh so that's where it gets interesting to me I think McMorris to us is as much of a disagreement as any I just was tantalized by what we saw last Friday and also he's one of your own draft picks one game one game I know you have only 53 spots I know one game I if he does it again I I'll be intrigued but I'm not keeping Patrick McMorris over Nick Needum when I know the body of work that Nick Needum has done over the course of the last five years I'm Gonna Keep both I'm gonna try to keep both but then if you keep both there's no room for one of the rookie Corners uh so yeah it's very tough decisions uh today what was interesting to me is Cam Smith uh and we're going to talk about him cam Smith finally had a chance today extensive time with the starting Corners out and it's funny to me the cam Smith said Anthony Weaver knows I'm a baller which I thought was interesting it's like no more fio criticism but I thought that that that was interesting you you talked to him some today what what's your impression of what he's done he's been out injured a lot of the time and do you think he can really challenge Ethan boner to be your top boundary backup that's a good question um I can say this about cam Smith and this is a compliment to him I thought he had a very strong Camp last year I felt like he should have played um coaches had maturity issues this year I've seen the maturity concerns and questions there just too much too much lack of focus there and maybe I'm being op hyper critical of it because it has been brought to my attention but I would love to see him have the opportunity to get out there and play he said he learned a lot about the Zone scheme and playing off and he is a pressed Corner that's the hardest thing for guys like like Kim and and xaven Howard when you're a press corner and they ask you to play off and just give receivers free releases it's a little bit of a challenge but he's grown from that and here's cam Smith addressing the challenges that he faces heading into this critical twoe period back recently uh keep up picking your uh practice participations how you feeling I feel good uh feel like a preparation at the we room step and the training staff got me right uh came out there really a loseing step wasn't really tired or anything like that so feel like it was wi win did you feel like you missed anything with the the time away or oh definitely you always going to miss something you miss one day you going to miss something so definitely how much pressure do you put on yourself to sort of reestablish yourself for a second like emerging Seas season uh I don't really put too much PR on myself I mean it's a reason I'm here so I mean just kind of homing in on the talents that I already have and then kind of listening to what coach L has to say about the little things that I need to work on and stuff like that so just kind of apply noes every day what's one thing you gotten better at uh I feel like my uh from last year to this year I feel like my off technique uh just kind of playing ino's uh defense last year played a lot more off so I kind of got the repr progressions like learning to change my eyes stuff like that how um how important do you think these preseason games and Joint practices are for you in your career um right now it's very very vital um just kind of making sure that all of the the ncks and crannies work your out throughout the this is where you work out everything where your mistakes at see what you you lack and all of that stuff so it's really really good how how has Anthony Weaver helped you um really kind of just instilling confidence that he uh he knows I'm a baller so just making sure that every day I know he knows that like I'mma Be do what I'm supposed to do bring the energy do everything I'm supposed to do I think I know the answer but ask who's who's the topest color on this team uh R and W but I can't can't lie Riv and Barrios they got some in their bag what what could the commanders what type of challenges could they bring at practice tomorrow um they have a lot of a lot of receivers the receiver room is kind of deep I know a lot of them dami and all of those but um just kind of the the length that they have they have a lot of bigger receivers so it's going to be more back shoulders stuff like that so stuff that we really don't see on a day-to-day basis how do you feel physically I feel great uh came in I mean the first interview when I came back uh I still had I got the same weight on 193 so I feel good I'm still running the sand stuff like that just making sure that I stay in the realm of playing on the field like just make sure I'm on the field when the first time you came back it looked like you you reag gravate or you suffered a setback and then got shut down what do you need to do to ensure that you don't get shut down again uh just kind of standing on top of it being proactive about it making sure that that even if it don't hurt just making sure I get something done to it and make sure I take care of it you doing with salt tiue is that what it is oh yeah how does the scheme align with your strengths um a lot uh press technique uh really just kind of getting back in the groove of that uh just playing a lot of off last year so just getting back in the groove of that and just being back comfortable sitting in that uh sitting in the press and sitting in there getting my hands on stuff like that making sure they go around me not not opening the gates stuff like that yeah he's a very uh talented young man I remember last year he just seemed like he' lost confidence in himself and when you go through situations like that um where I don't know how how to say this but a was picking on you uh it it you know it can kind of chip on your confidence and chip away at your confidence and then the pressure being early draft picks Barry uh I'm a big proponent of not putting too much on a rookie plate because the more if you give them a full plate and then they struggle with it then what do you do you just give them small bites feed them like you feed my three-year-old toddler just give them a small little plate and and if they eat everything on the plate and they say they want more okay let's give them a little bit more um what role now for the next two weeks he's gonna he's going to start I I don't see Jaylen Ramsey playing in the preseason um I'm not even sure I see Kendall Fuller playing in the preseason maybe this week he gets a little bit of work but do you really need to see both of those individuals yeah no I don't think so I think the Dolphins have played this right not adding another veteran Corner yet just letting the kid play it out having boner take a lot of snaps obviously with the concussion symptoms we probably won't see him this week having campsmith take a lot of snaps now and then you determine in late August if you need to go on the street beg xaven Howard to come back beg another veteran corner to come back with Cam Smith it bothered me a little that some people are saying cordre tankersley to me Smith has a lot more skills than tankersley did with Smith it's been more a case of Vic fangio is stubborn he gets an early perception of someone he's going to stick with that and not give him a chance cam Smith was beaten on the play in Jacksonville in the preseason game last year which I think hurt his confidence a little bit but as Omar said he was making a ton of plays around the ball in training camp last year so I want to see more of Cam Smith he deserves the chance way too soon to call him a bus he's not a bust yet check back with me in a year and a half if he's still buried on the depth chart then then we can have that conversation so I'm with you I want to see the young corners and as far as need him now there's a guy that it's interesting because he seems as much on the bubble as as any prominent veteran we hope he's not I know Nick is one of our personal favorites I think going for him is a fact that he's smart he has versatility he can he's your top nickel backup corner right now behind kou on the depth chart which I think is an accurate reflection and he can play safety he's taking a lot of reps at safety so I would keep him but to you is it a tossup between who toss right I know this game where I have to remove someone if I'm gonna it's like when people the top 10 list of players well who are you GNA take off right I know that's that that's part of the game I'll come up with a name for you after Nick n is my Nick Needum is right now the fifth safety and I would say either the fifth or sixth cornerback how many defensive backs Are You Gonna Keep and Ne is one of them which is the problem you really need Saran Neil because your other special team's Ace that you sign this off SE round is out for the year so Saran who has really struggled and coverage for the most part he's had a couple of good days but he had a pass interference today uh I don't know that he's going to help be a cornerback even though he had some moments earlier in Camp he struggled recently but if he counts toan Neil as a corner which is his position then you start wondering okay is there space for one of the rookie Corners is there space for needam but can you get away with cutting Saran Neil who was an a special teamers for Buffalo or does that leave your special teams to compromise we know how big they are on getting players who are just special teams guys like sethan Carter and others over the years it totally depends on how comfortable I am with some of these other guys being a gunner I'm I'm not comfortable with Nick need him being a gunner I I cam Smith played Gunner last year he was pretty solid you know Elijah's a gunner he's he's on he's on one side as a gunner the question is can Ethan boner fill that Gunner roll or can I get another safety whether it be Patrick Morris fill that Gunner roll it's to me Saran Neil he's not as good a quarterback as Nick ne he can't play doesn't have the versatility as Nick NM Nick needam can help you on special teams but is he going to do that you know Gunner roll he's not so that that's a toughy but I if if you ask me if Saran Neil has done enough to be on this 53 man roster my answer would be no um the problem is I don't have a special teams guy to replace him um so M maybe that's a situation where maybe I he's an early cut maybe I try to revisit signing him later later um you know it could this this reminds me a lot of Malik Reed last year where yes that defensive lineman who had played for fanjo and Denver they signed up from Pittsburgh last year they cut him they brought him back for the playoff gam as the practice squad guy yes good name good name it's like it's okay it's solid but do I absolutely have to have it and my answer to that question would on San Neil it would be no but then I can also say the same thing about Nick Needum but Nick Nick actually believes that his versatility is what's going to keep him on this 53 men roster um I feel like this year I'm making the team in two positions as well nickel and safety so um just adjusting to the safety World though just getting used to game reps I think I need to get a little more game Reps for that to uh really understand how everything's moving out there but I mean it feels good it's just another position in football said came here as a corner went to nickel and play safety so I feel like I could do whatever the team needs me to do so I'm will more than willing obviously what's the toughest part of that transition um just your eyes probably um seeing the whole field um as a safety rather than nickel you're just in the slauter corner you're just on the island so um and it's also more command in the defense as well so I think I'm a pretty smart guy and I'm capable of doing that I just got to get more mental reps and more on the field reps to really understand it now could you go out and play on the boundary if you need to uh yes sir I still down my bag for sure yeah corner at heart hell yeah and what about special teams um the Gunner has been in your past is is it something that you're still working on uh yeah n n not Gunner I think I only did that like one time in in uh training camp my rookie that was it but uh punt return kickoff I can make plays on that as well pun uh like in in the inside not Gunner that's still track stars out there m what has this Camp been like for you in terms of you're no longer the young guy uh yeah no it's been fun to see other guys in my positions and see how everybody's grinding and see how the football World Works um it's honestly a blessing like I said it's year six to be the vet not the big vet you know what I'm saying just have some years under my way or my belt um and then missing it last year was huge for me cuz I kind of forgot how hard this was so it's been fun for real and just enjoying every moment so what do you say to the storm Ducks the Isaiah Johnson's the Jason matri about what they're going through now yeah now I like I talk to him all day I'm like bro I've been in every position every situation you guys are in um you got to just keep putting cuz all the odds are against you they brought you here you know what I'm saying they drafted guys like I've been through that so I was like man all you can just keep doing is keep putting your best foot forward every day and keep trying to do extra because extra will put you put you ahead in the long run got to keep stacking the days with that as well but I told him like I know exactly how y'all feel and in the grind that it takes yeah that's Nick need him and now fans get to understand why we like and appreciate Nick he just keeps it real all the time um it's very interesting to me that the Dolphins have a very long history of having undrafted players make this 53 man roster last year you saw Julian Hill make it Chris Brooks made it and then they they eventually added um Ethan boner um after keeping him on the practice squad uh he might have made the initial 53 and then got demoted and then came back Ethan Ethan's definitely a guy that they they want to continue to invest in this year Barry I don't see anybody I I I don't see anybody who's going to make it I'm going with one of the young Corners I would say 51% chance they keep Isaiah Johnson or matri or storm duck that would be the position that I would eyeball I don't think Leonard Payne makes it a defensive tackle because I think they've gotten enough from guys ahead of him peely or Isaiah Mac or Jonathan Harris linebacker second year undrafted player Zeke vanderberg flashed early but he's a very deep position he's been working with the trainer the last few days uh and if Anthony Walker who's been out for an extended period if he begins the year on IR then your fourth inside linebacker could be Channing Tindle small chance it could be Zeke Vandenberg receiver jaquin Burton no chance of that as we run through our head of undrafted players of the offensive lineman there's been no Hayden Hayden RI yes he's extremely physical he's impressed me with his blocking he has a physical presence the kid from Wisconsin I don't see a pathway even though both your number four tight ends are injured at the moment forston with a stinger Tanner Conor with what we think is ribs but it would surprise me if he's on your 53 offensive lineman I was hoping for a surprise this year among Andrew Meyer the UTEP Center Matthew Jones the Ohio State player who has a lot of big 10 experience starting a guard none of them in my mind have made the case for the 53 which is the position where you would have most liked one of them to emerge right offens line unfortunately uh it has not happened uh there was one other thing I want to bring up defensively before we switch over to the Intriguing backup quarterback battle and that is we were kind of curious today what McDaniel would say when he was asked hey Why didn't it work out with Tierre tart and what did McDaniel said he said it was not a good scheme fit and of course we both raised our eyebrows a little bit a coach is never gonna say a guy just wasn't giving full effort or not in great condition so he blame the scheme fit which I found kind of odd but coaches have to come up with something but I guess only the sche is perfect for tier but hey you know yes yes and I think is going to go work out for the Chargers so to the to the Dolphins credit they're nice to players in terms of allowing them to go out and look for a job if they realize it's not gonna work out I just think it's a shame it's not gonna work out because I don't have a conviction that Bonito Jones Is Gonna consistently stop the run when he is needed at nose tackle all likeo he's a success story he an undrafted kid went to Detroit got a chance to start 15 games if you believe the metrics from Pro Football Focus I know they're mixed views on that it's very polarizing his numbers were among the worst of any no tackle last year any defensive tackle in general I have a little concern if he's good enough to be your full-time rayquan Davis replacement and he's been injured for the past week although McDaniel suggested today it's more day-to-day than week to week with him does what they have in the middle of this defense Beyond Kus and Zack seeler who were solid does it warry you it doesn't necessarily because I'm of the opinion that desun Han has stepped up and is ready to handle an emerging role he's my favorite of those kind of Jonathan Harris uh Neville gallamore I would like to see more from Jonathan Harris the body intrigues me um I just haven't seen enough in training camp to say whether it's good or bad same thing with Neville gallamore um I I you know but I'm confident that but here's the thing getting rid of tier tarp you just put on more snaps on kis Campbell's body and now now clus is clearly he's a he's a five technique Edge that's where he's going to start and then on passing Downs he comes inside as a no as as a as a as a defensive tackle or nose that's a lot that's a 600 snap workload and I'm not saying he's he's not readyy old as great as he is it's worrisome putting that much workload on a 37y old body yeah I mean maybe he does PR practices once a week and and then takes it to game day and and maybe that works um you know bino Jones is really just a a a 20 snap a game player so I'm not over over obsessed about what what this is going to look like but um I'm very curious to see how this whole thing plays out but let's be real about it I I just wanted to know Mike m Daniel's answer I I I really just wanted to know what his answer was going to be uh because I knew he wasn't going to say yeah this guy didn't bring effort every day he wasn't he wasn't a he wasn't a he wasn't a culture fit for us I wish he would have said that as opposed to a scheme fit because come on Mike he was a scheme it's funny yeah it's funny how coach is different where Mike Vel was comfortable with saying that David long Jr was a repeat offender with soft tissue injuries Mike m Danel would never say that but look every coaches different they're going to be more comfortable saying certain things Mike is a players coach he's not going to criticize his players public but you know who else is like that Eric spoler he doesn't criticize his guys publicly either and that I think is more common than the other type of coach who would say something critical one of the few coaches here who was really critical of his players Vance Joseph who we both really enjoyed because it was totally unfiltered when he was defensive coordinator right he he blurs out Vic Fano was the same way if it came to his mind he said and uh you know you've just you've just heard so many critical things about so many and I don't think you have to be critical of players um but let's be real and let's not mislead people um and I I wish here tart the best he just wasn't uh culture fit for this organization here's the thing they're not gonna they're they're not going to run you into the ground in term of the amount of workload that you're going to do but when you're out there they want you to work hard and abely and yeah and Alon Clark I think made the most revealing statement a couple of weeks ago when he said with here tart we just need to see consistency we see Flash plays but we just haven't seen enough consistency so I guess I guess we'll leave it there with that so tell me about backup quarterback what an interesting Saga that's going on why do I have to tell you about backup quarterback I'm I'm I'm just I'm watching this Saga because you know you know my standpoint I don't believe it's a battle I and I feel like Mike McDaniel was trying to like say to me it's it's a battle I know you don't believe me but it's a battle because Skylar's getting all the Reps and I'm looking at the situation I'm like yeah they're not gonna give him a chance but he's getting all the work so why is he getting all the work if he's not gonna get a legit chance yes as someone once said it's very very interesting to see Skyler Thompson get all of the Nona snaps on Monday every single one of them and then he has gotten the vast majority of snaps that Tua hasn't gotten not all of them the vast majority over the past two days something is going on I don't want to do the Brian wior thumbs fingers up but something is going on where he starts the game last Friday gets far more snaps than Mike White he's been better than Mike White throughout camp now White had the TD pass to Tua on Tuesday and Mike White can stand here and tell us look you put me with good players I'm Gonna Give You production but if you put me with scrub not that Mike White said this but he could if you put me with scrubs it's going to be a disaster so to me Skyler is a little bit ahead but we need to see more if you had to pick one right now who do you feel better about being your backup quarterback September 8th oh my God Barry um it's a tough question to ask me for that reason because if I'm factoring in money I'm keeping Skyler and getting my three and a half million back I if I'm factoring in player that I feel like I can put on my practice squad I'm keeping Mike and cutting Skyler and hoping that nobody is going to claim him if I'm factoring in who gives me the best chance to win a game on Sunday if something happened to to to to a Tong of aloa at for a month I'm gonna have to go with Mike White because he's got the experience but then again I see like the problem is you see the Skyler is high and he's low Mike is just consistent um do coaches value the high and the low or do they value the consistency and I I based on the coaches that I've covered over the years they want the consistency now they might be playing Skyler to see if he can get get rid of the es and flows and show you some baseline I but I don't know I don't know what's going on Barry but I don't believe it's a competition I don't know I don't know what's gonna make me believe it's a competition I think it's kind of a competition I just I'm with you ultimately I think Mike McDaniel is going to be comforted by the reliability factor with Mike White the fact he's been there before the fact he's smart he's trustworthy not Skyler isn't he just has a bigger body of NFL work he's a really sharp guy and also Mike White can always say look at what I did for the Jets against Chicago look at what I did for the Jets against the Bengals those were two games where Mike White was extraordinary now we're not going to mention all the other games where Mike White had a passer rating in the 60s and 70s but those two other games he was tremendous so Mike White can always say that and I still am with you I think he wins the job but I'm no longer sure like I was two weeks ago here's the thing when you look at Mike White and what he's working with what are your expectations do you I mean literally are you expect because we're not seeing the starters even if Tu tongo plays on Saturday his starters are going to be braxon baros River Craycraft Eric ukama and brilin Sanders like does that really excite you uh it certainly doesn't excite me so the question I have is H how do you H H how do you evaluate Mike White when he's playing with The Leftovers of the leftovers so it'll be interesting to see how it plays out we'll tell you tomorrow how it played out in the joint practices with the Houston command I mean Washington commanders on that note Dolphins in depth is out
