Louis Riddick discuss Patriots yet to name Drake Maye or Jacoby Brissett as starting QB !!

all of the quarterback competitions have been decided across the league still no resolution in Foxboro however jacobe brassette has been qb1 throughout the preseason but banged up his shoulder the last time out and the rookie Drake May has had better numbers in the three preseason games is it May in September for that team you know who might be able to shed some light on this it's this fell right here our Patriot reporter Mike ree getting ready so Mike tell us when can we expect some sort of an announcement on who the quarterback's going to be David here are the key facts Gerard Mayo the head coach said he would know who his starter is by now he wants to tell the players first before he announces it they have their first team meeting today in the 12:00 hour and then Mayo is scheduled to meet with the media in the 1:00 hour so today could be the day yesterday was a player day off but jacobe brassette said on a local radio interview his shoulder is fine and he has not been told that his status as qb1 has changed David big picture this whole thing has changed over the last two weeks Gerard Mayo said Drake may had been differential up to that point but he's since turned up the heat in the competition so the question is has Drake May made up enough ground to catch up to brassette who had a sizable lead just two weeks ago okay it sounds like we could know in just a few hours mik giving us the very latest as we look forward to this p Patriots open up against the Bengals week one okay let's dig into this a little bit more Drake May saw significantly more action than jacobe brassette over the past preseason games May completed over 60% of his pass attempts to less than 40% for brette may also have the only touchdown pass between the two in the preseason so what to do what to do I know what to do let's bring in our front office experts Lewis rck and Mike Tannon bomb Lewis if you were in the Patriots front office what would your recommendation be for who starts a quarterback week one well look based off of what I've seen and not having the inside info that all the guys there have which is much more than what we have and I think that's a important factor to consider here I would go with Drake May for a number of different reasons one because he just gives the offense hope he gives them a spark you can tell that the tempo and the confidence with which everyone around him plays when he gets in the game picks up no look I understand it's preseason I've been through plenty of them as a player I understand that the competition is of a lesser quality than what it'll be during the regular season and the game plans are of a less of quality but look Drake May right now is someone who if he has already if he's proven to me that he'll be able to protect himself get get our offense in and out of plays well enough to the point where he's not putting himself In Harm's Way and he can make the people around him better because of the fact that he is someone who just has proven that he's more confident at throwing the football more confident in being able to make off schedule plays and someone who can get us points and put our team in the end zone that I'm starting them and here's the other here's the last point I'll point on I'll put on Drake May being the guy who I would put as a starter remember the New England Patriots they tried to trade for for Brandon iuk remember Brandon iuk didn't want to go there players don't want to go there I'll tell you why because they don't see any hope for this offense they don't see any spark they don't see any future at quarterback so if you're Robert CRA what are you sitting there thinking you're thinking obviously short-term and you're uh thinking long term you're thinking smaller picture in terms of our organization and you're thinking bigger picture in terms of our organization down the road how are we going to attract other people to come and play for our organization if you don't have some kind of young lightning rod that we drafted third overall at quarterback in there showing that he can lead this franchise into the future for me that's the the really the decision is simple to me okay interesting points he could draw some Talent Mike you've been in this position before as GM of the Jets how would you approach this if you're the Patriots right I would start jacobe brassett and I understand Lewis's point at the Jets candly I didn't do a good enough job we didn't have a backup to Mark Sanchez that could get us through a number of games jacobe Brett has started 79 games and success for the Patriots is that at the end of the year they feel great about Drake may you have a new head coach and Gerard Mayo a new play caller in Alex Vel and massive question marks on the offensive line let Jobe Bret go in there with his experience settle things down for the first few weeks really assess your offensive line and then at some point around Halloween maybe you put Drake May in and then at the end of the season as Lewis alluded to you create an aura of Association to say hey we have this great Young quarterback but in the meantime let these rough edges get smooth out by a really good veteran in jakobe brette so quickly LS did any of these points change your position look I understand what Mike's saying we're saying the same thing look this season Drake May is going to be on the football fields just whether or not it's going to be week one remember from from day one Manning Troy Aman uh Joe burrow I understand these guys were all first overall picks Drake May was the third overall pick I understand that we consider him being a lot more raw than those guys when they came out but this guy is the future and I don't see him starting the first half of the season first quarter of the Season as being a reason what you know that he would be broken if you played him that early okay probably the same discussions that are going on behind the scenes at
