Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah from California the Golden State you're ready for another game of NFL football tonight's game features two teams each hungry for a win glad you could join us as the jet match up against the 49ers we're here for another great game welcome to the action I'm Al Michaels my partner John Madden when you look at how good an offense is it all starts with a quarterback they can do a lot more things with this guy throw in the football for him he can make the touch passes or just fire one of the old Bread Basket if he has to the 49ers have a few receivers that he likes to throw to and here's one of them there's no question these two develop that chemistry and he's always finding an open spot on the defense to give his quarterback a Target to hit it wouldn't be surprising to see them hook up a few times in this one this is a team that plays as one unit out there and they're proving it right now look at them they're all jumping up and down at the same time now let's go to midfield for the game's Point [Applause] toss both teams ready for tonight's Showdown so let's head to the field for the kickoff SM from to and the kickoff team comes out onto the field he got all of that one he got all of it that kick almost went into the crowd the Special Teams unit always appreciates a kick like that they get to take it easy for a play t passing on first down pressure row it this one Falls incomplete that looked like a cash until he got nailed that's what I like to see a defensive player putting a good look on a guy to force the drop [Applause] pass rowing perfect pass and he's knocked out of bound at the 17 good match up today one of the best quarterbacks in League taking on one of the toughest defenses now defensively here John what do you think they're thinking well I think they're going to have to shut down those short slant routes and deep outside corners first force your offense to throw short and over the middle let your big hitters make those wide receivers think twice surveys the field quarterback has unable to get rid of the ball quickly enough as the defender knifed in and picked up his first sa what have you heard Melissa I talked to Coach maruchi earlier today he said for them to be success successful they have to be able to make plays on both sides of the ball and if they can do that consistently they should be able to control the game Al that was Melissa Stark with her sideline report the corter sets up to run back the punt and he chooses not to return this one the offense just about ready to call their first play of the game scan the defense quickly here if nothing's open down field get rid of it by passing it to one of your backs Edwards in motion H the 40 he showed a lot of explosiveness on that car that guy has great acceleration allows him to stop in a dime and change direction it's first and 10 Z let's go come on let's go come on nothing pressure coming guns it over the middle breaks free he never hesitated on that pass that was quite a throw this guy's been blessed with a golden arm only one man back left using motion throwing on first down closing in surveying the field gets the pass off he let that one loose but over throws his receiver he just threw that pass too hard the receiver might have caught up with the ball if he used a little more Touch under pressure looking down field and I'm sure we're going to see a lot more blitzing before this one's over know that I would he struggles when he's facing pressure up the midle so bringing extra guys trying to get additional pressure could be very effective strategy bust this deep Man in Motion dropping back pressure with the throw he hits his receiver touchdown 49ers quarterback delivered the ball right on time for the touchdown yeah that guy knew exactly how far he had to go to cross the goal line to get in there for the score SOA try to tack on the extra point and it's up and the extra point is good good job moving the ball the length of the field for the touchdown the thing that most impressed me about that last Drive was the offensive line they did a good job controlling the line of scrimmage keeping their quarterback healthy and on his feet a strong offensive line is the first and most important component to an effective offense he Downs it in the end zone New York takes over on offense needing a touchdown to draw even they'll go from the eye formation passing on first down pressure coming looking for an option gets the pass off they're lucky that one wasn't picked off yeah I think everyone else was thinking the same thing you don't get a better chance at an interception than he had right there Martin in the back fi with the pass oh he makes the catch anyway looks almost got to him there John you don't always have to get to the quarterback when you BL effectively football is about Rhythm and timing bringing extra guys that makes him throw the ball before he wants to can upset that time using motion crosses it out to the right so they'll lose yardage on that tackle not what they were looking for in that play yeah the back just couldn't decide where he wanted to go with it he hesitated Just a Little by the time he decided where he wanted to go with it the defense was all over offense couldn't get it done in the lineup to punt here's the punt from the 47 yd line still not a bad return it's time to see what the offense can do now as they come back out under the field the coverage guys got downfield quick enough to prevent anything from developing calling in AUD 25 young sends a man in motion h couldn't pick up any blocking on that play the defense is always very aggressive when defending the Run they're extremely disciplined they get off their blocks very quickly makes it tough to find openings when you're running the ball stay come onner closing in slings this one and the catch is made young showed his strong arm and lightning release on that throw that's just a display a great hand shown by that receiver the throw was a little off the mark but he got his fingertips on it and brought it in for the catch 28 yd line Z stay out using motion again he'll get the P that's a three yd gain scan the defense quickly here nothing's open down field get rid of it by passing it to one of your backs sit come on bar B they got nothing off again the back picks up about two on that carry everyone needs to stay focused here hold your blocks run good routes and make a good pass need to convert this fifth play of this drive Man in Motion Under Pressure throwing the defense has it l did his homework and it shows D that may have just been a case of miscommunication nothing seemed to go right there give this [Applause] defense following the interception it's now first and 10 Ward comes in motion it's the toss to the left mared about a [Applause] yard second and long ball on their own 25 Mark the lone back B on the 25 drops back get in there with the pass and this pass is completed when you give him time he'll find a receiver yeah and with this guy he doesn't throw it behind them he doesn't throw it over their head he throws it where they're going they line up in the eye formation using motion I got motion give it all you got pressure throwing short to his left with the adjustment he has it he was in perfect position to make that catch yeah the receiver showed great concentration looking that one right into his hands seven yds to go get the ball number 16 get set Man in Motion stay [Applause] out Ros it almost gone I thought that was about to be picked off John I bet you as soon as he let that go he was wishing that he could have it back cuz that could easily have been an interception is that all you got give it all you got gets the pass off and it's caught watch it here this is a great call on third down to keep this drive alive they were in a tough spot here this is a heck of a throw and catch pick up that first half it's first and 10 ball on the 32 yd line only one man back ball on the 32 yd line gets the toss to the right tackle at the 24 8 yd gain now smart coach would call this defense and the seventh play of this drive again in the run so he picks up about five on that run moving the chains in the process the lion did a great job there of blocking the backside Pursuit which helped him get the first down we'll see droing back the pass on first down throwing this one Falls incomplete second down up coming after that incomplete Pass San Francisco looking for pass with only three down linemen and seven DBS on the field running l oh did a great job getting in there to bring him down here's what happened they ran to the outside looking for some room to run off tackle but he was in the back field so fast they had no chance to set up the play that's just great defense back the quarterback gets set with only one back behind him pressure coming slings it out to the line now this is what a receiver with great concentration can do for you he makes a catch and he knows he's going to get nailed but he does a heck of a job of holding on to it and bringing it down the teams as for sides and we'll strike the second quarter PA an attempt to put up the first points of the day and it's on its way splits the upright and [Applause] good here's the kickoff team and he got all of that one a great kick he got all of it that kick cleared the back of the end zone returners hate that kick it out out of the end zone he doesn't get a shot to run it back man in motion going to the air on first down throwing the 30 they complete the pass to the first down that showed awareness by the receiver he knew just where he had to go to get the first down cross the marker and then look for more calling in audible now using motion throwing on first down closing in he's looking he's taken down on the back field there was nothing open downfield resulting in a big sack this team loves to play zone and pass cover he'll use the cover twoo on just about any play relying on the defensive front to create pressure on the quarterback they'll Blitz every now and then to change things up that's usually inside the 20 yd line and keep the offense off balance drops back under pressure surveying the field gets rid of it so the pass is bed down at the line if you can't get to the quarterback then you get to his Lane that's exactly what happened there third down and long coming up here ball on their own 26 pressure he's scrambling around looking for a receiver throws it he finds his man he was stopped short of the marker and can't convert you know when it's third and so many yards why the heck would you run a pass battern it was short of the first makes no sense to me number four is looking for a good punt here here's the kick fair catch gold for that was a smart thing to do with the coverage team closing in for a big hit this defense looks good Martin couldn't get out of the back field that was just a defensive line getting lower than the offensive line when your defensive guys up front can control the line of scrimmage it makes it very difficult to move the ball on offense they got nothing 11 ball on the 18 yd line carries it for six yards on that play on the San Francisco looking for the pass as they line up with seven defensive back with the pass so it's fourth down after a fine defensive play that prevents him from getting pass the marker that receiver just didn't show very good concentration on that play you plan the play the quarterback makes a good pass and poor execution by the receiver means that your offense heads back to the sideline unable to get anything going on that series they'll have to punt it away here here's the punt he can't hang on to the kick the 49ers scoop It Up watch here as he's able to avoid the blocker and get in there and make the tackle that's how you're supposed to play Don't Stop keep going till you reach the ball carrier y get set Man in Motion pressure coming he's scrambling around gets rid of it this one Falls incomplete keep an eye on the safety take advantage of the spots where the defense looks soft Earth the lone back closing in great play on the back field by fur the protection broke down there that's just a case of an overload where the defense had more guys rushing than the offense had blocking theat BR the dropping back looking for an option rolling out to his right guns it out to the right on the money they move the sticks with that completion I'll tell you he put that one right on the money they're just out there play a little pitch and catch 25 young with a man in motion bring him down steamrolls the defender yeah the defense has got to slow down this running game d this one off to your fullback it might not be paying a lot of attention to him the 49ers line up with two backs behind the quarterback is that all you got Man in Motion Under Pressure steps up surveying the field a little off Target but caught they convert for the first down on that throw what a throw he put everything he had into that one ball at Midfield he's mine drop back drop using motion they give it to the halfback got caught holding he you practically tried to address him there it'll be first and long here after the penalty backs them up all you got seven defensive backs in this 4 yd L dropping back looking downfield with the throw and he is bumped Out of Bounds at the 37 yd line tell your line to protect here tell your line to protect every play not just here you need to get some time back there and let someone get over Y in there using motion hand it off carries the ball for three maybe four yds if you don't like what you see with the defense you can always audible into something [Applause] else get in there out right man in motion pressure he's looking throws it pass walls incomplete third down up coming after the incomplete pass seven yds to go ball on the 34 yd [Applause] line and this is the ninth play of this drive pressure coming looking for an option going for six incomplete thought he had something deep but couldn't get that one to the receiver fourth down Owens The Man in Motion closing in flings it to the outside and it's complete now watch how they get out of a jam they're looking at a fourth and long situation here and they call the perfect play at the perfect time he makes one heck of a throw and he gets it past the marker to keep him going everything had to work on that one and everything did him dropping back the pass on first down throwing short to his left he's inside the T Blitz was coming and he got rid of the ball very quickly you know when it comes to making the right decision this is the kind of guy you want out there under Center first down and goal to go ball on the seven yd Line Get Set let's go come on stay out BR the hey Under Pressure looking downfield buying time to the end zone incomplete and a man in the end zone but over threw the pass you got to take your time and get your receiver a ball that he can make a play on he didn't do it there the quarterback gets set with only one back behind him dropping back pressure he surveys the field scrambling around brings it down looking to run he tried to create something on his own there yeah he really dug in to give extra effort that he needed to get in there so now we have third and goal clar comes in motion to by left touchdown San Francisco great rushing touch down there yeah he knew where he wanted to go and he got to Richie comes in to attempt the point after and it's up the extra point attempt is good here's the kickoff team boomman kick downfield so the offense takes over the last time they had the ball they had a very tough time getting anything going I think the coach needs to look at how his team has done so far and decide if they can put a drive together with this much time left if he doesn't think they can or just doesn't want to risk anything we'll probably see a few runs here hand it off to the fullback solid pick up on that one he made that one look very easy and when you see him setting up to defend the pass running the ball is a great way to pick up a good chunk of yardage pretty easily dropping back gets the pass off Breaking Free no problem picking up the first yeah you know we talk about putting a ball on a guy the quarterback put that ball in the receiver perfectly got to the air on first down throwing and the catch is made 50 Miss tack you give him some time he'll hit his man and the thing is he doesn't care how big that window is with his accuracy everyone's open you know what this does it keeps one defense on the field and it doesn't let them get their right Personnel in there sometimes New York calls a timeout they have two remaining San Francisco lines up with seven guys in the secondary Man in Motion Lo it it with the pass this pass is incomplete they'll have to move the ball downfield quickly through the air to try to score before the half San Francisco doesn't appear to have enough speed F to match up against these five wide outs the defender just teed off on them I really like the way this defense attacks the offensive line they're very aggressive relying on man-to-man coverage in the outside to shut down the receivers as they bring guys from everywhere on the Blitzer I'll tell you here's a defensive lineman's Green Third and long and he knows they have to pass keeps his spe New York calls a timeout they have one left we'll probably see them in a hurry up mode even though they're in field goal range W the motion man to the air on first down throw it grabs the off Target pass appear on the defense first down every team talks about how they need to get points when they're in the Red Zone if they can make the most of this we'll see a confident group going into the locker room at halftime and this is the eighth play of this drive gets rid of it almost picked off very lucky that was an intercepted you know he didn't pick it off but at least he didn't let the receiver make the catch either still a pretty good effort and now a second down play as they continue to try to get into the end zone rather than settling for a field goal before the half stepping up throws it BRS up with it touchdown Jacks he slips behind the secondary and got open for the touchdown now that's just how they practiced it they go over this play all the time at practice and they use it a few times in just about every game and let me tell you most of the time it's successful just like that the kick is up the point Anor is good well John these teams are very evenly matched this makes for a better game I think the strategy of the game comes into play here more SS now here it is he shows a lot of determination and get to the ball carry on this one look at how he fights off the blocker he makes a heck of a play to bring him down pressure coming he surveys the field with the pass it's his receiver in stride San Francisco calls a timeout they have two timeouts left the quarterback lines up with two options behind him Y Man in Motion closing in throwing great throw good connection there this guy can make all the catches he'll dig for the ones in the dirt he's not afraid to go across a middle and he has a knack for getting open when there's a lot of traffic around him they'll pass on first Down Under Pressure surveying the field throws it good throw green takes him down at the 30 you better kick it here gain on the play first from 10 ball on the 30 yd line using motion throwing on first down pressure rolling right gets rid of it incomplete you better kick it [Applause] here Richie looking to make a good kick here and it's up and it sails right no good it's the end of the second quarter with the score San Francisco 14 New York 10 back to the field here are the halftime stats as we get set for the second half kickoff they'll return this one the 49ers will start the drive from the 19 yd line so they have first and 10 here ball on their own 19 young with a man in motion drops back pressure coming stepping up with the pass the 30 and he's forced out of Bounds at the 35 tell your line to protect here tell your line to protect every play not just here you need to get some time back there and let someone get open M do over give it all you got come on the 49ers using motion gives the ball off gets the call picks up four maybe five there trying to catch the defense napple fake the run and look to send it deep they need five ball on their own 40 they line up in the eye formation right that baby closing in row drops the interception he couldn't come up with the interception yeah he started thinking about how he was going to take it back the other way and make a big play for the defense he just forgot to bring the ball with him in got dropping back under pressure gets the pass off a lot of room to work with good read on that Passat play they brought some extra guys to try and get some pressure but he read it quickly so as the receiver had a step and Fir to strike using motion all you got to the air on first down looking downfield with the throw perfect pass Owens has just passed the 100 yd Marine you might want drop back a little deeper on this play step up in the pocket and Let Her Fly y sets up changing the play now yellow 74 green [Applause] 58 gain of two the be aware of the pressure here if you feel the heat you got to make quick decision just make sure they're good one seventh play of this drive out here the heat pressure looking for an option throwing hits him on the the L he flings that pass right to his receiver that quarterback rarely throws a bad ball well here's a look at his numbers after a nice run and you can see he's been able to break some tackles got Man in Motion dropping back pressure coming throws it he finds his man touchdown 49ers you better kick it here the kicker lines up for the point after the kick is up and the extra point is good they made the defense look in neck on that drive there chewing up more than half the field taking more than four minutes winding up with a touchdown you see the way those guys walked off the field kind of had their heads down the offense is just dominating him out there he got all of that from the one the Jets will start this drive from the 17 yd line on the return they'll take over at the 17 yd line first and 10 looking for room only a yard by the half back one yd gain on the play second and nine coming up here ball in their own 18 and on the dropping back gets rid of it on the money by is the recipient on that one his third reception of the game Martin theone set back he'll get the call again and he picks up just enough to convert first down coming up after that one strong move Martin was stuffed on that way John they're just Relentless when the offense decides to run the ball they break down blocks very quickly they do a good job maintaining their Gap assignments limiting cut back opportunity the ball man it's the toss to the left he's taken down in the back field and that's a loss of two on the yd on the play they'll be faced with a long third down play here ball on their own 24 we'll San Francisco comes out in 43 defense and they might have some unfavorable matchups against this five receiver set Break Free the receiver did a good job bringing left b f looks like someone might have blown their coverage on that [Applause] one number 17 is back to pun quarters back to return here's the kick he has a lot of open field here just a great punt return there John and then he just ran out of steam but I'll tell you this he gave him great field position the quarterback lines up with two backs behind him young sends a Man in Motion dropping back the pass on first down gets the pass off he finds his man Owens has been there over over and over today all day long seven catches so far A little over four to go using motion closing in buying time surveying the field with the pass the 40 the 30 the 20 the 10 touchdown San Francisco young is another touchdown pass his third of the game better kick it here Sola try to tack on the extra point and it's on its way and he TS on the extra point and so they turn that drive into a great one as it ends with a touchdown scoring a touchdown not only puts points under the board it sends a message to the other team that if you execute properly they won't be able to stop you and they say 90% of the game is half met from the one yd line so the offense takes over still trying to figure out this defense on the return first and 10 ball on the 23 yd line back stay hand off to the tail back just about a three yd gain there yd gain on the play it's second down and seven to go ball on their own 26 that's all you right dropping back gets the pass off John I don't know how they didn't pick that one off yeah the defender was in a perfect position to come up with a big play he just left his hands over on the sideline and here's what they've been able to do so far on third down third down conversions is a keeper stat when you convert on third down you keep three things you keep your drive going you keep their defense on the field and you keep your defense resting on the sideline flips it out there what a collision fires look good on that reception when you make a grab like that the quarterback will always look in your direction the quarters get set for the return as we take a look at his numbers so three and out and they'll line up to punt here's the punt he feels the punt and Ro run he picks up a few yards on the return not the coverage team had him wrapped up before he could do anything with it first and 10 ball on their own 20 the quarterback lines up with two backs behind him y sends a Man in Motion hand it off to the back steam rolls the defender he wasn't satisfied with just picking up the first down on that car well it's apparent this guy doesn't tire out in the second half especially after seeing him run like that first and 10 ball on the 37 yd line looks like he's changing the play using [Applause] motion first couldn't escape the pursuit and was cut down quickly these guys up front are very tough to block because they can use their size and strength to get excellent leverage on running plays sometimes they struggle a little with their consistency but they always seem to be a big factor when the game's on the line under pressure with the throw goes down and catches it beat the blitz decent game he never seems to rush back there in the pocket he takes his time finds his man and puts it right on the money get out him into the open field the 50 the 40 he gets around the corner and nearly takes it the distance I tell you that was one heck of a play this guy's always dangerous anytime they get him the ball and he darn near took that one all the way for the score the teams are set for the fourth quarter of play first and 10 ball on the 28 yd line directing traffic Man in Motion H keep spe a yard maybe two on the [Applause] car the quarterback lines up with two backs behind him sixth play of this drive calling an audable now young sends a Man in [Applause] Motion Kirby and he stopped at the 25 yd line Kirby didn't have much to work with on that running play that's because the defense did a good job anticipating the snap count with an aggressive defense like this a hard count could be an effective way to keep him off balance while trying to draw him off sides get in there pressure and he's walked down in the back field high L great for on the defensive coordinator and this is a type of team that likes to Blitz to create pressure they'll call the cover two or cover three on passing Downs a lot of time but they also like to bring extra guys on blitzes trying to mix it up attemp field the kick is up he just doesn't look comfortable out there that's the second attempt that's been off The Mark with two extra defensive backs the defense is in the dime only a yard by the halfback one yain on the about 8 yds ball on their own 39 hit the San Francisco doesn't appear to have enough speed on to match up against these five wide outs he catches a floater for the first down and it's a good thing he caught it you don't want to drop those passes that are sure first down come on up they'll go with the Run once again kept it on the ground picks up about seven yain on the play second and maybe three get San Francisco comes out in a 4-3 defense and they might have some unfavorable matchups against this five receiver set Johnny has great touch now you say what's his strength what does he do do best well you can see it right there it's his accuracy that puts this guy on a whole another level the quarterback lines up with two backs behind him pressure coming Ros it it's picked off by the line the offensive line couldn't do the job and the pressure forced him to make a bad throw into coverage I tell you you don't get a whole lot easier than that he was right there the quarterback makes a bad throw and he brings it in for an interception they line up in the eye formation using motion pass play here on first down closing in picked off Smith watched the quarterback's eyes the whole time it looked like the quarterback may have slipped a little there maybe he wasn't able to put that one where he wanted give it all you got snake us under pressure gets rid of it goes makes again touchdown New York and a great throw for the touchdown yeah he threw that were only the receiver together showing confidence in his offense he'll keep the special team unit on the sideline and will try to make this a 10-point game you got it pressure throw and it turns out to be a great decision as they convert for the two so the drive didn't have a whole lot of yardage involved is an offense your job is to score wherever the drive may start and that's exactly what they did as a defense it's a tough situation when you come out and you realize the offense doesn't have to go very far I'm sure the next Drive they'll come out and want to stop them no matter where the drive start he did a nice job on that return picking up good yardage and really helping to set up the offense you know those guys come flying down the field so fast and sometimes they run right by the guy with the ball calling an a [Applause] four maybe five yds on the counter second and four coming up here ball on the 47 yd line set Man in Motion just about two yards on the Run by the halfback your running game should be able to pick up the yardage you need here on the 4 yd directing traffic sine sine Edwards in motion looking up field can't bring him down breaks away from the tackle find a run here in the second half I don't know if it's been better blocking up front or what but this guy seems to get stronger as the game goes on you got using motion throwing on first now pressure coming looking for a receiver good throw at the 30 he's taken down at the 23 yd line right on the mark there to move the chains and the thing is the secondary looked a little on their heels on that one they just couldn't Converge on the ball in time and now they get a whole new set of down Earth lines up behind his fullback in the eye calling an audible line M we got knock misses he gets a couple of yards on the carry but he looks fatigued and he's headed for the sideline only one man in the back field B 904 come on get up car out he'll get it again Johnson stops the play in the back field he laid a good hit on him there for his fifth tackle of the game in field goal range now here's a look at the third down success rate of each team third down conversions are usually a good barometer of how well your offense is playing it means your offense is making big plays when they need him out right using motion and there's a flag on the play the officials are bringing that one back they'll have to go at it again and the only way they'll convert this now if the defense totally breaks down these third Downs haven't been much of an obstacle and it's helped them to take the lead throwing short to his left off and watch it here this is a great call on third down to keep this drive alive they were in a tough spot here this is a heck of a throw and catch to pick up that first down the 49ers line up with two backs behind the quarterback looks like he's calling an audible the man is that all you got you got him you got it 25 they got nothing he has some room he's having a big day on the ground with good yardage when he's decided to keep the ball and they find themselves in scoring range ninth play of this drive two minutes to go only one man in the back field this team has been Unstoppable inside the Red Zone today another run trying to find some room in the middle but there was no place to go I'll tell you what happened the defense was coming with a lot of guys in a run blp and the hole that that play was supposed to go through was filled with Defender third and five eight yds to the goal line Z come on up let's go stay guys T Owens Moves In Motion flings it to the outside incomplete pass trying to convert through the air but the pass was off the mark so we'll see if the field goal unit can come through here you better kick it here [Applause] drops back he's scrambling around closing in keeps it big opening and he goes out at the two this one is just about in the book run it up the gun you keep that clock move it's first and goal ball one and2 yds out the Jets call a timeout they have two left time to give it to your time to look for a hole to open up inside New York calls a timeout they have one remaining third and goal ball on the 6yd line young get set using motion gets the toss to the left New York calls a timeout they have none left you better kick it here so this will be a 23 yd field goal attempt and it's up and the kicker got all of that R Richie is just about ready to kick this one away and he got all of that one great kick he got all of it it looked very good in that last possession moving down the field steadily for the touchdown and let's see what happens here as they take over once again dropping back the pass on first down with the throw and it's complete number 16 put the ball in there perfectly and that's one thing this guy does well put the ball right in the place where it needs to be what they're doing here is keeping the defense from huddling up keeps the same defense on the field John it looked like that was going to be a turnover yeah he had an excellent opportunity to end the drive right there he just couldn't bring it in they got nothing back off sideline to sideline get in there gets rid of it pass RS in complete they need to convert on this fourth and short to have any hope of winning the game left cross play to the left it off to the back Breaking Free so on the blitz they can't get to the ball carrier until it's too late and when you're blitzing to stop the run the idea is
