What NOW After Florida State Seminoles Fall In SHOCKER To Georgia Tech? | Can Noles Still Make CFP?

what just happened yesterday and more importantly if you're a Florida State fan where do you go from here Florida State 21 Georgia Tech in walk-off fashion in Ireland 24 we'll talk about all that a lot of thoughts on what's going to happen moving forward I don't think you should turn the lights out on the 2024 season after week Z just my opinion but again we'll talk about that right now make y'all in advance for letting us know how you feel and airing out your grievances so what happened I think the headline from a lot of people on social media a lot of people that will jump to this take will be well DJ you man I told you what he was going to be he wasn't this he wasn't that there was this and the whole thing too like that that half time graphic for the yards per air or the yards in the air that he threw the football it's like all right man if a halftime graphic at week zero is like the hill you're dying on more power to you I think it's a pretty small sample size at the exact same time if you have an issue with what he did yesterday I don't think that you're without a case to be made like 19 for 27 193 yards no touchdowns no picks extremely extremely conservative with the football going forward now you probably need him to hit on some of those throw that they missed downfield probably need them to be more aggressive some of that you probably pin on dju some of that you pin I think just as much on Mike norell in the play calling but here was my big thing coming away from that game as much as you wish dju would push the ball down field more as much as you wish he hit on that deep Crossing route to jakai Douglas like yes those are all things you wish it happened but my thing was where was the strength of this football team like the entire offseason what were talking about college G they're talking about having the best defensive line in all of college football potentially allowed five yards to carry got run on for darn near 200 yards offensively I sat here for the duration of the last six months and said they will be a run the football kind of operation they're going to Pound The Rock they got an experienced offensive line they're however many deep at that running back room they are going to tote the male less than 100 yards on the ground right around three yards a carry so if I'm a Florida State fan yes the quarterback should and will get a lot of the blame that's the position that's what you sign up for especially at a high-profile spot like Florida State that's absolutely true however I don't think that was exactly like the biggest surprise that dju was what he was yesterday at the exact same time he completed 70% of his passes we always talked about dju and the Florida state passing game kind of being like the compliment to the strength of this football team the trenches that wasn't there yesterday or at least the edge wasn't there yesterday from what we could see and I'm not telling you that's exactly who they are and and I'm not telling you that's exactly what they're going to be the rest of the season but I do think if you have an issue with what happened yesterday with dju I would also make sure you point just as much of the finger at the offensive and defensive line now it should also be noted like as much as we want to talk about this game meaning something to Florida State and kind of trying to get a gauge for what they're going to be going for forward now we have to factor in the possibility that Georgia Tech might just also be really good up front like they they brought back eight starters on the offense four of five on the offensive line what happened yesterday I don't believe was we just somehow way overestimated who Florida state is is some of that baked in there potentially I think you have to give a lot of credit Georgia Tech like they were very clearly in that game with a great plan loved the way they put the ball in the perimeter and tried to make it a game where we're going to play out on the edge as opposed to trying to just win 110% in the trenches and then when they did play in the trenches they were very multiple it was counter it was Zone it was outside Zone it was get downhill in a hurry it was as Haynes King said multiple times during his halftime interview get a hat on a hat they did that at a really high level okay so I think in some ways you have to kind of tip your hat to Georgia Tech and say yeah we lost that game but that's not just to some slouch Georgia Tech team that's just going to barely make a bowl game like to me that looked like a Georgia Tech team that could very well end up competing for that entire conference when it's all said and done it's week zero I understand but still that was a good football team there's no way you can convince me otherwise the thing that was missing a little bit yesterday when you watched Florida State compared to previous years what have we known to be true about Mike norvell's football teams in situations like that like how many times have we seen Florida State play close games the fourth quarter and find a way to go the extra mile find the play here find the extra yards there to get it done I was sort of waiting for that to happen and you thought maybe it was going to happen when they had that big drive to go ahead and tied it up in the fourth quarter you thought maybe the defense would bow up get the ball back and then it's Fitzgerald time and I mean that guy's an absolute weapon you got to mention him when you give a a recap of this game hitting the the McGregor strut in Ireland after a 50 plus yard like come on now like that's bucket list stuff all right he's a weapon for you that's a side note but you kept waiting for the the extra the extra I don't even know what to the unquantifiable edge that Florida State teams have had to find a way to get it done in previous years to show up in this game it's worth noting 83rd in returning production in all of college football this is a in a lot of ways new team new cast of characters so a lot of the guys that were a part of that team that beat LSU two years ago on the untimed down to you know have the extra point you know situation where they were able to win that football game like different different outfit the team last year that went to Clemson South Carolina one in overtime different outfit and so I think just because you didn't see it in this game doesn't mean it won't still eventually show itself throughout the course of the season but I think that is at least worth noting the extra Edge that we've come to know these Mike norell teams to have not they don't have it I think they're still developing it and that's okay because at the end of the day there's bad news and there's good news the bad news is you're 0 And1 in conference play it's a gut-wrenching loss you got a lot of external noise now around your football team like that's the unfortunate part of this the good news is this is not 2007 this is not the B s era Florida State let's be real they could lose another game heck they they could lose two games they could lose to Florida and to Notre Dame and guess what if they win all their games in the ACC and they go win the ACC title I think there's a you know not I think they will be in the college football playoff I think if they win out in ACC play should feel pretty good about making the ACC title like everything that Florida State wants to do is still very much so in front of them so as much as this one hurts and the the Twitter trolls are out and about and it is what like as much as like what's going on behind me that people are trying to turn the lights out on Florida State season I wouldn't turn the lights out on the Noles just yet because in the new era of college football as we retrain our brains losing a game is like failing a test at some point during your semester you can fail a test if you Ace the final if you do well on the rest of your exams guess what that one test doesn't matter especially if you do well towards the end of the semester we still have people a selection committee that I'm whether they say it or not there is some recency bias baked in there okay there's no way around it so I understand it's frustrating I understand it hurts but this loss legitimately can mean as much as you let it you can learn from it you can bounce back you can kind of tighten the screws on some things again I think you probably do need more from dju I don't think he can be a guy where you just now Dink and dunk the entire way down the field and kind of you know uh don't have some vertical presence there if your if your run game is going to give you 98 yards a game which I don't think it will but if that's the way that's going to be got to have more at quarterback it can mean as much as you want it to this could be the the thing that we point back to and say Florida state was a different team after that Georgia Tech game different Edge different style of play they went out and won the ACC like then Florida State went to the college football playoff and made a run that could be their story again because it's not the BCS or the four team playoff so for Florida State this hurts again I think that Georgia Tech team is a good freaking ball Club we'll leave it at that but excited to see how the NS respond again make sure you subscribe
