waking up on this Tuesday morning brings I I guess what it's probably the hottest day of the year heat indexes through the roof here so anybody that is outside certainly a Workforce that's outside on a day like today you think about them and anybody else that has to be outdoors good luck stay cool as best you can this is the wakeup call here on Tuesday August 27th I'm Kevin Bowen Andy Sweeney and Mark dyon alongside pretty crowded show coming up here from a guest standpoint we'll continue to get you ready for your fantasy football draft start to dive into our local college football scene big day for the NFL with roster cuts and somehow someway the fever held on for dear life last night in the fourth quarter I know it it wasn't good there there for a second I'm thinking are they going to lose this game is this going to change the entire piece of analysis for the fever game but they get the win last night uh and a good morning to you guys you know you have led with this probably six or seven times out would say since we've been together in the last year or so KB be walking to the car and sweating while you're walking to the car and I thought of you because the heat wave did slap me in the face this morning when I went from uh air conditioning inside uh to whatever the hell is going on outside 96° today yuck but I'll take it over 13° there about just bringing the deodorant in the car like work out after well no no no just like is the workout that knowing what was going to happen as soon as I closed the front door and headed you know out to the car I was like well I'm going to sweat again so I might as well just wait on that end so uh again it is going to be extremely sticky extremely humid here on this Tuesday sounds like tomorrow I I'll be curious if you know you occasionally get the you know Friday night let's post let's push back the start times like an hour or so with high school football uh I don't think we've had any of that uh yet here but maybe just something to keep an eye on it does look like it's going to cool down a little bit as the week moves along so again plenty to get to here uh we are what 700 a.m. right now 4:00 if we do that math about nine hours away from roster Cuts if Chris Ballard operates in typical Ballard fashion uh we'll get those about 358 actually probably about 422 considering uh the email to the NFL and everything we will hear from ballor tomorrow so that'll be something to keep an eye on as the Colts Tinker with the back end of their roster uh and and sift through that so they'll get back to practice tomorrow uh and then today you'll obviously see a lot of names and I thought yesterday we did have a news item of note in terms of roster Cuts I would say it was a good day for Sam Ellinger um this is something that matters in terms of cutting down the roster the NFL PA has vetoed the third quarterback rule so I guess just to kind of bring everybody up to date on what was happening here uh we saw in the NFC title game a few years ago disaster struck the 49ers when they had to turn to a third quarterback and the NFL was like this is horrible this is a bad product this is on display for everyone right you never want the Philadelphia Eagles to do that well sorry shaneon Sten yeah I agree with you whenever they do that well we need to change the rules so those your Giants no this rule would not have changed oh that game that was a sickening game the 49ers running Christian mcaffry in the what the second quarter up the middle not good and I think this is a fine rule for the NFL to adopt allowing teams to dress a third quarterback um but the rule for this season it looked like you were going to be able to have that guy on your practice squad not on your 53 man roster still Elevate him unlimited times over the course of the 17 Game season and if need be you could turn to a third quarterback at some point in the game it's not like you could use him as a gadget guy you would literally have to have injuries occur to the first two guys for that third one to get in the game well then yesterday the NFL pa um the announcement comes that they had vetoed that rule they want that third quarterback on the 53 man roster right right and the technicality with this I think has less to do with the pure salary and more to do with they want the accured season and this counts towards guys getting to free agency quicker if you're on the practice squad you don't get that accured season if you're on the 53 man roster you do so Sam Ellinger for example could have very well just gone from a cut today to potentially being on that 53 man roster for a four straight SE season and not having to go through any sort of waiver wire later today yeah I I know it's confusing I hope people are paying attention because I think it absolutely matters for the 53 man roster and I think it matters for several teams around the NFL and I think it matters right here in Indianapolis and then you know on top of it I was wondering myself I I don't know where you saw that it's not about the money that it's about the aured year uh getting you know that that official year under their belt by being active in some games I guess I was a little bit surprised you mentioned okay Chris Ballard will take all you know he'll take all the way until 4:00 to get the cuts in to get the waves in to get down to the 53 man roster why last night or I guess why yesterday afternoon did it take for the NFL players Association to veto that I mean we have been talking and quite frankly the what the competition committee and the owners passed this pretty easily and so it's something quite frankly KB for the last what several weeks that we've been talking about that is basically law and then we found out yesterday at 1 2 3:00 whenever it was that that's not going to be the case now what I find interesting is you mentioned at the very beginning and I was going to bring this up is this is a good thing for Sam Ellinger and I I yeah that was going to be my question is it I and and I don't know the answer to this because um probably that third quarterback and maybe even Jason being the fourth quarterback have a much better in my opinion chance to be on the team if if you have this rule in place and now that it's been vetoed by The Players Association I don't know I know the Colts like Sam Ellinger but I didn't know if they were always going to keep a third quarterback so we we sit here today I have no idea what they think of that third quarterback spot and if they do obviously we all expect it to be Sam Ellinger but if you didn't have to have him on the 53 that opens it up for another offensive lineman for Tav Bryant a guy like that on the defensive line Isaiah Lance somebody like that uh perhaps even you know one thing I was going to bring up to you the running back position do you have to keep four is there a is there a world you can keep three and be able to put Evan Hall Andor others on that practice squad so uh it does kind of open up a spot potentially if the Colts were looking to go into the season going into to week number one technically with just two quarterbacks on the roster which again we don't know exactly what they were planning on doing makes little to no sense why the new cycle led to yesterday to answer your first point I have no idea why you know 48 hours away from roster cuts that this come or less than 48 I should say 24 hours away it comes the Forefront of the news cycle to your point you know I've gone back and forth with Ellinger this offseason on the 53 man roster there's been times where I had him because I do think the Colts value a third quarterback more than other teams and I get why the Colts would value that I mean you got to live in a bit of reality with Anthony Richardson and you know I kind of view the third quarterback differently than I view Jason Bean like if you told me right now what would you do if you were the Colts I think I would keep elar on the 53 and I put Jason Bean on the practice squad I agree I think the practice squad is still for your developmental quarterback think emergency emergency you're trying to put a Band-Aid on a bullet wound I mean that's all you're trying to do so on game day if Richardson goes down in the first quarter flacko suffers a concussion in the third quarter and somehow some way it's still a one possession game at that point I don't think you want Jason Bean getting your first ever NFL action I think at some point you would say all right Ellinger just literally try not to pee down your leg you've been in NFL games before hand the ball off to Jonathan Taylor we know the half a dozen pass plays you like let's see somehow someway and laugh at me if you want if Matt gay and our defense can try to get to the finish line here uh that's kind of how I view it um but you make a great point that news yesterday it might have helped out Sam Ellinger but it easily could have taken a job away from somebody else right so who is that guy I think that's something I want to get into when Jolie Ericson joins us here where do you pinch do you pinch at a fourth running back do you do you pinch at a sixth wide out do you take away from the trenches somewhere where Chris Balor never wants to take away from I think those are all relevant topics here on this Tuesday morning again roster Cuts 4:00 today that is the deadline for that you'll start to see you know obviously various teams cut at different reasons or uh excuse me as the day moves along closer to we give that dead yeah I'm trying to think I know like Mike White got cut there in Miami I haven't seen a name yet that I guess has really stuck out and surprised me have you I mean I know they're just leaking out in today even during the show we'll probably get a couple uh notable ones around the end NFL have you seen one that's kind of shocked you because I don't think I have no but they are names it's just like in the veteran cycle that it's like okay three years ago I feel like I was looking to pick up Matt burita and fantasy is he now just dead as a player I think you might have led the Giants in rushing a couple years ago you know what I mean like it's one of like like he's a handcuff in the 18th round that you're picking up in fantasy football like the Colts cut Greg Ward the other day like was there anybody out there in like the NFL world that's like Greg Ward w you go can't believe the Cs cut them they must be really deep at white out it's like wait have you kept up with Greg Ward lately so that's probably where I am on roster Cuts uh we mentioned it uh somehow someway the fever closed that out last night that was um that was a three-run lead in the ninth You Walk The Bases Loaded I would say you walked in one run I would say you walked in a second run and I would say the final out was recorded on like a uh maybe like a drop third strike somehow the catcher scrambled to get the ball and you barely threw it to first place in time uh it was quite the fourth quarter there I will say this it'll get lost I think in how the game unfolded last night I was blown away sitting there at halftime and Caitlyn Clark had one of her quieter first halves in a while you know Clark has gotten to this point now where I mean we're just penciling her in for pretty much 20 and 10 I mean that that's kind of the new standard for who does that remind you of who does whose analysis does that remind you of about 6 months ago certainly the point guard uh here for the NBA team uh in town and last night I think at halftime I want to say she had like five points and maybe one assist um and yet you had a double digit lead and for those that missed the first half Aaliyah Boston the first quarter was literally Zack Ed against Grambling they had no answer for her whatsoever the Atlanta Dream and then the second quarter uh Kelsey Mitchell was the microwave that she can be um and was tremendous and to me I kind of walked away at halftime and Cit Clark did get banged up she missed uh a handful of minutes there late first quarter with a turned ankle she called herself soft after the game and looking back on the replay and uh having to have that ankle taped up very Caitlyn Clark quote there from her but I walked in there at halftime and thought to myself you know what what a Hu what a like a important step for this team you build a double digit lead and it wasn't like Clark's insane playmaking that you needed to get to that point now of course in the second half Boston and quiet it down and you needed Caitlyn Clark to be back to her normal self and she was but I thought that was a really important step on the road for this team and just a huge win flat out we tried to explain it to you yesterday Atlanta's a team right there in the standings just behind you last night's win clinches the head-to-head for a team that has not made the postseason in nearly a decade wins like last night are absolutely critical for this franchise so big one for the fever 8479 to start what is a busy week for this team yeah I felt like it was uh it was a grownup moment and then they almost gave it away at the end but they did finish things off now if you didn't stay up and watch the game Atlanta had what was it three basically wide openen threes KB is the best way you would describe it there in the final 15 seconds or so i' say I thought Matty bone was going to wake up the kids Hey listen I have learned if you wake up the kids that's a big problem that is that would be guys that's a big problem i' argue with Christy sides I'd rather take a loss for the fever than wake up the kids Little ma uh little Mason my son who's nearing oneyear old he's been a great sleeper but the last like two weeks he has are we knocking on can we all do it Mar you got anything over there it doesn't even matter knock away the last two weeks he is not been nearly as happy going to bed I'm like dude you're not missing anything just go to bed I mean you can he wants to watch the Conor stallion documentary you should sleep 10 hours man while you can do it you need to take advantage I will say this on the CL on the Clark ankle injury it happened and I immedately thought okay it's a twisted ankle you know not much to worry about but you know I'm watching it closely the first replay looked like it was non- contct like it looked like it wasn't a twisted ankle and I was I gotta be honest I was hor I almost texted you guys I was horrified I'm like wait a minute you know this is season over this is not just a twisted ankle she was down for a solid minute minutes so it's one of those things where it's like oh boy and so the the the first one it was like a straight on from the Baseline looking at her and you just couldn't see the ankle turn as much and she wasn't holding her Achilles which made me feel a little bit better but I was alarmed and then you know maybe 15 20 seconds later KB they show the other angle the side angle and you can see that it's kind of a normal basketball player Twist of the ankle but listen last night uh was a gut check and the two things besides Caitlyn Clark and her coming back and everything else was number one Lexi Hall has been fantastic and you say that she scored we have seen games where she scored in double figures what was it the game a week and a half ago she hit what six threes whatever it was she gets her hands on so many she's had games like that but last night she played 30 minutes she had two points she had two points but you're like you're not you can't take her out of the game I mean I mean sides did the right thing by not taking her out of the game the other thing and it's like we we asked Lyn Dunn about I think you did either last week or the week before and that is you know a a new contract for Kelsey Mitchell uh you know I mean when you look at it she is up after this season and it's kind of a it's kind of a you know I I know there's a lot of cult stuff going on and there's always college basketball and hurn and Team USA and the Pacers and everything else but you know quietly you know Kelsey Mitchell very much is a little bit like Pascal seak is to Tyrese hurn right you got to have St s and really good players around Caitlyn Clark and she's going to need a new contract here uh coming up and I think that now becomes besides how they end this season to me it becomes the number onea or one B however you want to label it story for the fever is making sure someone who can go out and score 25 points when you need to is on this basketball team it's a season high in points last night 29 for Kelsey Mitchell there I know she was frustrated by not being able to provide kind of that fourth quarter dagger but again a great first half for her and kind of help helping this team build that lead tomorrow night one of the best teams in the league the Connecticut sun inside of gamebridge Fieldhouse that is the lone home game of the week so that was the other thing I thought when Caitlyn Clark went down I thought of all the weeks for this to happen you know this isn't last week where the team doesn't play for five nights uh the fever play tomorrow the fever play Friday the fever play Sunday so it's important you know obviously for you know Caitlyn not to miss any time it is a reminder when you watch the fever how unbelievable of an instride passer Caitlyn Clark is she is Anthony Richardson to ad Mitchell on the touchdown not Anthony Richardson to kylin granson on that play against Denver if you follow me there or or the other AD Mitchell play sure yeah uh she is an inst stri and at times it's like she leads him almost too perfectly like you know and you know tons of blown layups last night uh which caused for the late game stress but they close it out in Atlanta again 8479 in front of 17,000 Atlanta usually in in a 3,000 seat Arena uh it was quite the crowd last night for that one can I interject with this I think Scott Agnes has created this the hashtag Caitlyn anomic instead of Economics is he trying to get that started is that something that we're jealous that we didn't come up with or we want to help Scott you know get that out there I think he I I think he's got it I think he's got a trademark you think he's got a think he to go yeah he probably is before we take a break and again busy show today Joel a Erikson going to join us coming up at 8 o' Matt Weaver will'll talk some IU football within ps.com at 8:30 Marcus Grant coming up at 9 o'clock some fantasy football stuff I got three or four questions for Marcus things that I noticed on a draft that I had so we can dive into that but but as we sit here today and we get ready for cuts is there is there a guy and see this is I I kind of feel like for me it might be Isaiah land I think he's relatively safe for the 53 man roster the defensive end is there a Kevin Bowen's going to pound the table for a specific guy to make the roster at the back end of the roster do you feel that about a guy you know when I went through the exercise yesterday okay Ellinger is on the 53 who do you pinch I I I can't pinch Isaiah land he plays too important of a position you've already had an injury there to Samson eacom he was not a name I ended up pinching one off offensive line yeah um now I clearly stay in there like I don't I think this is more of my thought and not Chris Ballard's thought but you know a question I'll throw Joel's way like what would you say if I threw three names at you Evan Hall Ashton duelan Dallas flowers and said one of the three might not make the team you know like that this is just a like that's a POS it's a such a trench believer i' Sayers should we remove ourself from taking away in the trenches just knowing how Ballard operates just hear me out here I mean we got 8 years of evidence know with the guy if you remove yourself from there and you start to look at other positions you know linebackers I only have them keeping five they've already cut a notable safety I don't see them cutting another notable safety there you know tight end aren't we pretty sure galani Woods to ir and they're going to keep those four so again it's just a thought that I've had and you know I guess in the back of my mind you know we will get answers on Ellinger we'll get an answer on gelani w i mean we will get a little bit of clarity on how they feel on some of these guys here coming up around 4:00 yes there will be tinkering with the roster um you know through the rest of this week I thought to myself yesterday is kind of a weird hypothetical the 53 man roster that happens at four o'clock today okay and the 53 man roster a week from today right how is it different if it is at all more new names on the roster over the next week or more starts for Joe flacko this season that's see that's the kind of question I like uh what do we think the over under is on Flaco two and a half one and a half something where this is where we Cop Out cop out and just make Mark pick that make Mark Joe Flo starts where are you going three and a half I'll say two and a half oh boy if we go if we go three and a half and Anthony Richardson we're talking about him missing almost a month of the Season well if it's under if it's under it's not the end of the world I know I will say this about Duan the way that Balor talked about him last year after he got injured they sure as sell better keep him this season yeah there were times I'm like gosh did I miss a Jerry Rice outing or two is the Manning statue gonna have like another one next to it number 16 is that Tim Brown out there yeah yeah but I just again a fourth running back a six wide out you know it's just Dallas flowers how much from the kees I think they will all make it I had all three of them making it but I think they're usually is one or two that I'm kind of like oh wow okay if I would have put some more pre- roster cut thought into it I guess I could have seen that and I'm trying to train my brain into doing that so obviously we'll keep that conversation going Cuts Mania that coming up later today at 4:00 we might get some cuts that happened during the show either with the Colts or somebody else will'll keep you a breast of that situation as well coming up what did Caitlyn Clark say about the win last night plus your scores and news from overnight it's the morning checkdown appreciate you waking up with us wake up call on this Tuesday 935 1075 The Fan e e e e e e e e e e e all right coming up uh a little bit of national disagreement on Anthony Richardson will play I I don't know I'd say some rather jarring audio to some here it's a hot take in a bit uh but last night morning checkdown wise we go to the ATL first yeah we have to go to the ATL first last night the fever now they're still the seven seed we'll get to that here in a second but they go on the road last night after that loss in Minnesota and they get it done 8479 they had 30 points in the second quarter KB do you know what they scored in the entire second half the fever oh gosh 32 I was going to say yeah probably right around there yeah 32 so uh they hung on Caitlyn Clark 19 and seven in the win Kelsey Mitchell fantastic 29 Points for her and again Lexi Hall 30 minutes just two points but defensive play after big- time defensive play getting loose balls she was fantastic as well now as for Clark she got that sprain ankle there in the first half she did come back I was nervous I don't mind admitting it here's Clark post game on the ankle injury I saw the replay I look really soft it wasn't that wasn't that bad of a turn but it hurt so sometimes you just need a second to to give give yourself a second have you ever sprained your ankle it just kind of stings for a little bit so I was I was good they're like you want to go in the back I'm like no please just tap right here let's go we got to keep going get on with the game you probably didn't hear any of that I got to be honest that that's crappy sound do we play that every check down guys what do you think I mean I want to play was that my earphone or was that just horrible audio there did they not have did they not have called herself soft that's what she did there uh she was on the bench for about 3 minutes came back in the game and really showed no ill effects after that again kind of a quieter first half for her last night but Boston was dominant in the first quarter Mitchell outstanding in the second that helped build the lead Clark certainly got going in the second half and as Andy mentioned it was holding on for dear life there some little plays Lexi Hall a huge offensive rebound there late getting it to Kelsey Mitchell for a big and one there and they beat the Atlanta Dream in a very important Victory when you look at the standing so home game coming up tomorrow they don't have a lot of home games in this current stretch here uh it'll be the Connecticut Sun Sun the best record in the league they got to be close if not the best I was just looking at the standings hang on the Connecticut Sun are second they're three games behind the Liberty by the way by by the way the fever I said hey can you get to the six seed they're now just a game and a half back of Phoenix you know they've dominated Phoenix Phoenix lost last night they've lost two out of three something to watch closer uh the sun 3 and0 this season against the fever uh markk dyon congrats to your Cubs uh 32 runs last night for them is that right yeah I wish they could carry some of those over you guys see what happened at the end of the game near the end of the game like a true Cubs game uh did I see the Pirates threw in a guy that had never pitched before and he got an out yeah well they th they threw in 32 years old making his debut they just threw in some random guy who was throwing the Loopers you know 58 you know 60 M prow Loopers a different guy and there was there was a pitch is a position player there was a pitch mark that was 142 in off the plate that the Umpire called called a strike last night umpire Scott Barry had the worst strike call in the history of umpire auditor he had a date at Old Crow that he had to get to it was Rowdy Telles who missed the strike zone by 14 Sluggers is what he was looking for Fant I just saw it now dude it's way off the plate it's way off the plate a kind of a quiet night in Major League Baseball from a Midwest standpoint but the white socks continue to be the white sock 63 losers like the guys shoulder and he called a strike and we'll see uh boy you talking about a hot one over at Victory Field today uh Indians back at home they've got Louisville here it's a double header tomorrow if I'm not mistaken so certainly not ideal conditions for that one uh all right great GRE straw he informed me yesterday when I ran into him on the hallway he is in route right now to he did the Pearl Jam early flight to Kansas City that guy doesn't sleep does he this morning he does not sleep and he was describing this match tonight like it was World Cup final he's ready to go Indie 11 in the semifinals of the US Open Cup this is an 8:00 kick tonight again from Kansas City all MLS teams left besides Indie 11 here in the semifinal sounded like the 11 arrested some guys Saturday night is in anticipation for this one um what did we say yesterday the Apple MLS app that's where you can head uh potentially to watch this game we're going to have it right here on the fan too at 8:00 I think it is free on that end and yes uh Greg rstw will have you on the call there so 8:00 tonight inie 11 and certainly a match um that is very very important for their FR did you happen to see he's live tweeting all all the stuff that he's doing today he was at the airport at 5 he got the coffee at six yeah yeah oh yeah he's good to go I saw and there are times I'm like does rake need coffee doesn't he strikey as an individual that just self- produces caffeine I mean I really don't believe he sleeps I got to be honest I'm like hey man what's going on you okay like how do you stay awake so he went to Pearl Jam jmv went to Pearl Jam who else went to Pearl Jam Jake was there oh yes so krait was there boy Kravitz was there now Kravitz went with jmv right those two tearing up the to I like that how about I me I like that boy rake 551 a.m. at the airport I told you he's ready to go I don't think he had a 32 ounce beer last night he's got so much energy he probably doesn't take the the shuttle bus he just walks he just walks I'm parking my car and I'm walking parks an f52 and economy and just walks all the way there he doesn't do the moving sidewalk he'd rather just walk on the side and say to hell with moving sidewalk uh quickly a couple NFL nuggets I know we're going to talk about it CD lamb finally gets the big deal four years 1 136 mil from the Cowboys 100 Mil guaranteed with a wide receiver record $38 million signing bonus uh so there's that and then your Packers got a lot better yesterday Malik Willis traded to the Packers for a seventh rounder uh and a couple a lot better A lot better there have you looked by the way at that 2022 quarterback class KB I want to talk about this later on just for a second I mean it is bad I think it's well Brock P's the best one and he was what a seventh rounder it's the worst quarterback draft I think it will go down as the worst quarterback draft of my lifetime we'll talk about that BR PR's fine good was Picket the first one taken that year was in the 20s that's the Kenny picket year for people scoring at home the Colts that's the year they didn't have the first rounder they took Alec Pierce in the second round if you remember that so well they got Carson Wentz oh they got car and W so they're good to go a couple different guys waved yesterday but really it's all going to come down 4:00 today and then Chris Ballard will be speaking with the media what time 2 or 3 o'clock tomorrow correct yep tomorrow afternoon yep and you got anything else there no I got one for Mark rest in peace to Psycho S I know did you see pass yesterday former wrestlers what 7 years old uh 63 63 battled cancer lost it yesterday so unfortunate that was a '90s uh '90s wrestling icon he was one of my favorit oh yeah yeah I don't mind scared me as a kid he did he scared me too uh all right there's your morning checkdown coming up next what did Mark shareth stink what did he say about Anthony Richardson plus a thought on CD lamb roster cut talk we got it all here 7:30 segments coming up right here 935 1075 The Fan e e e e 20 minutes Joel a Erikson from the Star we'll talk Coster Cuts coming up deadline due for o00 tomorrow we'll also begin our tour around the state uh we'll get a Insider preview of the football programs in Bloomington West Lafayette and South Bend each of the next three days a question coming up at 8:30 that optimism in Bloomington how much of that is schedule related how much of that is Kurt cetti word related and how much of that is IU actually has decent Talent related I feel feel like when we talk about Indiana this season it's probably signet's words than the schedule and I don't know if we've mentioned one IU football player well to me it's Curtis roor Mark brought up the guard that you know suffered the season ending injury week they got injured a week or two ago to me it's are they going to be competent on offense and so very often under Allen they weren't competent on offense so I think that's what steamy nou fans hoping they can get to the Holiday Bowl at six and six so again we'll take a tour around with Indiana today tomorrow Notre Dame coming up on Thursday as all three of those programs begin their respective Seasons coming up Saturday uh you want to get to this Mark Sher sound here wasn't it well Okay so yesterday I saw you know and and listen I want to be honest I had no idea Mark Sher was still around to be honest with well okay so Mark shareth is getting ready to do the FS1 revamp television lineup he's getting ready to be on the morning TV show from 8:00 to 10:00 oh so he's our competition so basically he's now our competition screw why I got to rip him there that's why he's throwing out flaming takes so I will say this I believe as a precursor I believe there's a lot of people that are on the Anthony Richardson band wagon I me Dan orlovski being one of them on ESPN Lewis rck you know just I know I'm going to ESPN guys but I think that there is I would say if you pulled the national media I kind of feel like it's eight out of 10 damn near nine out of 10 to think that uh you know that Anthony Richardson already is a F player and with Shane stti him really could Bloss him into you know a really good player great player perhaps and I I think that is a conversation piece that is out there mark shareth does not feel that way about Anthony Richardson so uh this is about about what about Mark about 80 seconds or so so take a listen and then there's a second clip which they kind of talk about you know could AR become the next Cam Noon but make no mistake about it Mark sareth y boy stink is not sold on Anthony Richardson I'm gonna tell you right now Anthony Richardson is a big time I mean Top Flight As Good As It Gets athlete he's not a quarterback he is right now as currently constructed he is not a quarterback and I'm not saying that he'll never become a quarterback but the Indianapolis Colts were close to winning last year and it wasn't because of Anthony Richardson it was because of of um of muu so in the four games that he started last year Mike in the four games he didn't finish one game he got knocked out of every single game because of his propensity to take the ball tuck it under his arm and start scrambling around and you cannot you know this you can't win in the NFL playing that style of football so you know I'm not saying he's going to be a long-term bust I'm not saying he's never going to play but listen if I was a Gambling Man he you asked me to put some amount of money that that mattered to me on Anthony Richardson becoming you know a a full-time starting quarterback or Anthony Richard Richardson going kind of the way of uh uh who was the guy that Buffalo Bills took the first round um uh EJ Emanuel it was it uh yes yes EJ yes Manuel or Manel yes yes dude I would I would put more money right now on him becoming a bust than I would him becoming anite level quarterback I mean so that's those are some pretty big words and then I forget the host name who's along with stink he says what about cam newon does he remind you of Cam at all here's what stink had to say Cam Newton I mean at least Cam Newton could stay healthy his first you know six seven eight years in the league I mean this guy's already missed I mean he he went on IR week five last year I I just I just honestly I just don't see it man I I just think that this is one of those situations and I'm not saying it can't happen but if I had a gamble on I'm gonna say it wouldn't your reaction hearing that from Mark schare yeah I largely think it's epitome of a hot take with little substance um first off I think it's Peak National person swooping in not following the Colts whatsoever and if we want to go with the factchecking multiple things are wrong first off he did finish the Rams game last year that gets Lost in Translation um on the four injuries he suffered he didn't scramble on a single one of them all four of them were design runs uh and I think it's such a misconception that Gardner muu was the second coming to Patrick Mahomes last year for this Colts team and explaining why right the Colts won nine games so I would start there um I think it's just a very very juicy way to present what is I think a fair question and the fair question gets lost I think in a lot of what schair said there I think the fair question is are there teams out there that can make Anthony Richardson look like the quarterback we saw in the preseason can you make him be a drop back passer and so much of that is easier said than done you know where I would push back with SCH as well is I think a modernday quarter like he's not a quarterback he he he said on several occasions I think a modern day quarterback does bring a leg element to the picture now well Josh Allen does if you like Josh Allen his running ability is superb his escapeability is but to be fair to the Josh Allen of the world or the Herz is of the world or even the Lamar Jackson of the world sure they haven't won a Super Bowl well they have proven that they can operate in the pocket now you know to the level of Mahomes you know of course not but they have proven they can operate from the pocket pretty darn well obviously Richardson has not proven that yet so that is where he does need to take strides but again I I I just think largely um it is a big National or whatever a a national voice swooping in and getting a lot of things wrong if I'm not mistaken at some point schair is said in there the Colts have even talked about starting Joe FL how it that's how it started yeah I don't think the Colts have discussed Joe Flo honestly when I first heard that as the starting point I almost like do I need to even listen to the rest of it well that's how I felt you know what it is I have a theory on this this is Mark shareth watching the Bengals game that's what this is otherwise who who who has brought up Joe Flaco sure this season one one gu brought up Joe Flaco this season K curb Street last Thursday with 1315 to go in the second half he's the only one Joe flacko has the conversation around Joe flacko has been because Anthony Richardson and rightfully so and we we listen we understand it when Gardner muu got his money with the Vegas Raiders the conversation that we had leading up to that free agency and the conversation after he got his money was hey they're going to need to go out and find a quarterback that can play a couple games like we had that conversation so I think there is an admittance of Richardson is probably somewhere in a long 17 game schedule KB going to get injured somewhere and you're going to need someone who is better and I hate doing this that is better than Sam Ellinger uh you know I mean who's better than Jason Bean or something like that and I think you probably have that with flaca and we can argue how good or bad flaca was he was washed and then he had you know four five six games whatever it was in Cleveland last year but I truly believe this is is mar lare watching watching the first half and into the second half of that Bengals game because that's the only place that the flacko conversation has ever lived this off season to the point of where the Colts would think about starting him and not Anthony Richardson now the Rams game if you remember going back to last year Jacksonville technically AR didn't finish that game but he could have but technically he did not finish that game but you're right he absolutely finished um the Rams game well and again he didn't scramble on any of the injuries like you know again part of this is just where I struggle giving credit to National voices it's just like and I think it's difficult frankly if you want to go down the rabbit hole of you know being a national voice You' got to be quote unquote expert on 32 teams um I think that's difficult you know we're fortunate we can concentrate on one team here and we know the evidence The Good The Bad everything you know we've watched all 12 training camp practices Etc Etc I do think there is an element again lost in the schare you know BS that should be at the Forefront and I do think is at the Forefront of people when questioning Richardson and yesterday another kind of national story that did come out was Mike Sando from the athletic he does this annual exercise where you know he uh asks NFL coaches decision makers Etc to rank the quarterbacks in tiers and yeah I saw this you know they're Anonymous quotes from you know whatever defensive coach here you know GM here Etc and one of the Richardson quotes was basically summarizing saying styken has built a very unique offense we saw glimpses but Richardson kept getting hurt and the question that this coach had was I don't see a path for them to have a successful offense with Richardson without putting him at continued risk for injuries see I I agree with I agree with that to me is a spot on take it is and I think that is where you go back to the preseason you know we watched Richardson play what you know I guess three quish if you want to add up the first and the third what did he take two hits in those three quarters that was it right yeah it's not he was at rer not at all but his play was wildly inconsistent his play was not at the level that you would want but again what you put him in in the preseason was more of a dropback traditional old school 15 20 year ago type of offense that that's not the offense you're going to ask him to operate a week from Sunday um so I think that question of you can operate a successful offense with Anthony Richardson to me there is little debate of that I think you can operate a pretty Dynamic offense with him but can you do it with longevity can you do it with December success and not you're worried about his health on Halloween and Thanksgiving etc etc that is the bigger question that I have I would say this a couple other things you know I think and this fits into shareth probably a little bit and it fits into my mold as well and that is you know we are so impatient right and I think what has happened here because of the injury to Richardson and because it happened when he wasn't in the pocket throwing the football like the leg got bent with Tom Brady back in the day when Matt Castle had to play was that people don't want to have patience right and Anthony Richardson is going to to take quite a bit of patience I'll say this two other things number one there are not many for Colts fans out there and I understand they will not like these comments for Mark schare and factually uh he he's wrong on a couple different things I understand him having this opinion maybe thinking I don't love Anthony's game that that's fine he can feel that way there are not a lot of detractors with Anthony Richardson I mean there aren't a lot of people think he can be a really good player perhaps a special player they they look at his athleticism they look at what Shane styken has done in his career definitely look at his time with Jaylen Herz and Philly so I am wondering if there are early struggles you know if they go 0 and two and Jordan love looks pretty damn good and CJ strad walks in with all the new offensive weapons that they have and they look really good I wonder uh if some of the negative impatient Anthony Richardson people if that take will start to kind of permeate around the NFL now it can also go the other way uh as well I wanted to just throw a couple of those quotes out there so if you haven't seen the article it's on the athletic and I think it's very good um was it Mike Sando you said who wrote this he has a tears of quarterback and he had Anthony Richardson in his fourth tier and I mean that's right there with guys like Gardner muu Justin Fields uh Daniel Jones will Levis Bryce young okay so you know that this year that is what they're looking at a couple different quotes uh one head coach said to Sando quote everybody is scared to death of Richardson in the NFL another offensive coach said he's the closest thing to Cam Newton since Cam being a man that big who can run the ball and rip it uh another offensive coach in the NFL said watching this dude in pregame from the 50 just Arc and Pace it this guy can be a problem if it all comes together because he has the athleticism so I won't read it all but you know you should go to the athletic uh I mean it's pretty again the NFL is sitting there saying if this guy figures it out he is going to be a pain in our ass but he's got to figure it out and that's basically what we know and that's basically what this season is about for Anthony Richardson is it not yeah I go back to a Chris Ballard quote that he said often times and then again Andrew Luck retires in 2019 so for several seasons you know we would ask Ballard specifically about quarterback and you know obviously the will threat nature to quarterbacks has become so prevalent and you don't watch college football nowadays without pretty much seeing a starting quarterback that has a leg element to their game so I just think that's how you know I think nowadays you're seeing younger and this probably hell this probably starts at peewee football let's put the best athlete at quarterback and we'll figure out the arm eventually right so you know that's kind of how I think football is going to continue to evolve Joe Burrows of the world I don't know how prevalent that's going to be you know again 10 15 years down the road but Ballard has often said the quote of at some point the quarterback has to operate from the pocket at some point at some point the legs are cut off either the defense Cuts them off or you know whatever uh you have a Caitlyn Clark turned ankle situation in a game and that run element maybe isn't as prevalent can Richardson deliver from there again largely it's Shane s's job to make sure he operates more of a Saturday offense if you will and not the traditional offense but that's why I would push back a little bit on schare of you know he's not a quarterback well you know I mean nowadays burrow is the anomaly when you talk about it I mean if you look at the NFL and you look at the list of quarterbacks all of them have some leg element now all of them also have more of a pocket element than Richardson has um I'd say one other thing I'll point out on that Sando list and again that was a poll of NFL coaches from around the league of the eight top eight quarterbacks on that list seven of them were in the AFC it it's a further reminder and I've said for months I've never seen the AFC this deep I've never seen the AFC that had legit we go 12 teams down the list and if I listed those 12 teams one to 12 for you you would sit here and you could make a case for all 12 of them making the playoffs and you know you look at those quarterbacks Matthew Stafford's the only one that these you know various NFL people had uh in the top eight and welcome to today's NFL for the was curious tier one was Mahomes burrow and Allen uh and you obviously had other AFC quarterbacks that followed after that so Lamar not being one I know that's going to be a problem for some people yeah he was in tier two right yeah he was tier two backto back NFL MVPs quickly before our top of the hour break what did you make of the CD lamb contract yesterday I just find it funny doesn't seem like anything was accomplished he ended up getting his money right so they ended up caving he just didn't have to be here for a month I mean basically that's what happened is it not yeah I'd probably have to look at the exact like how much did he give up and you know whatever was the first reported deal 2 million less than you know I don't think he had two million in in sitting out fees that he owed the Cowboys uh Michael Pitman Jr 14th highest paid Wy out I know and Jamar Chase and Brandon auk will push him down that list even more so I think you know coming back to that Pitman audio I think that's a quote you know at some point if we get the chance today we'll uh we'll play that it's a reminder of kind of Pitman again he's not CD lamb obvious obviously but you know Pitman I think has a pretty unique perspective on his situation here that I think you could play in regards to CD lamb so if you drafted CD lamb in your fantasy league you're good to go you're good to go are you sweating if you have Jamar Chase or Brandon auk uh I think Brandon iuk there needs to be a little sweat doesn't there I mean that that relationship seems to be a little bit more vocal and nasty than anything CD lamb wise plus when it comes down to it Jerry J can't say no to a wide receiver can't say no to a skill position guy that's a big time player on his team I mean he just can't do it now do they go out and sign deck Prescott I don't know but you know Jamar Chase what was it yesterday back at practice he's going to play this year then we'll see if he gets a new deal I think Jamar Chase next year is going to be the battle with that tight you know tight ass money franchise in the Cincinnati Bengals I think that's going to be the fight there but um as for Brandon auk I mean I just have noidea I mean at some point here what next I mean at some point this weekend Monday you got to get the guy in there if he's going to play otherwise otherwise he's compromised and will not play week one yeah we are that week from Thursday away from the season beginning so it is here big deal again $8 million in that signing bonus from CD lamb all right coming up next who's in who's out will nerd out with Joel a Ericson of the indie star we'll talk some Colts we'll do it with him next appreciate you hanging out with us 8:00 hour around the corner 93 5175 the fan e e e e e e e it is a busy Tuesday in the NFL World Jolie Erikson from the the Indianapolis Star has already been a busy man when it comes to the Colts and their roster Cuts Joel by your count what are we waiting on dozen or so more moves more than that I I haven't been keeping track unlike you I uh I think we still have 20 or so maybe a few more than that um a couple of them you probably a couple of them we probably already know IR moves that sort of thing but uh yeah I think 20 or so let's start with the big news item from yesterday again Ericson from the stars with us and that was the third quarterback rule we explained a little bit earlier in the show basically the NFL PA vetoing this forcing teams if they want to to carry a third quarterback on their 53 man roster versus their practice squad what do you think that means for Sam Ellinger what do you think that means for Jason bean I I kind of think that that probably means that that Sam Ellinger is on the roster again I was I was kind of going how come this couldn't come out before I did my last roster projection you and me both right I it just it just I understand why the NFL PA doesn't want it because you know you can it it the Ellinger situation was really a good highlight for it like you just if you can Elevate the guy from the practice squad every week um and then you know most guys get paid less on the practice squad you could kind of see why they didn't want that um but the the emergency quarterback thing you obviously it doesn't come up very often but you're going to have inactive guys every week anyway and so if if the benefit is maybe we can you know stay in or win a game where both of our quarterbacks get hurt uh for one of those inactive guys I think it changes the calculus a ton Jason Bean as the as the developmental emergency quarterback I don't think necessarily that I mean I could be wrong on this but my thought would be the emergency quarterback situation like you think about Anthony Richardson goes down the first quarter and then say Joe Flaco goes down in the second quarter if if you have somebody like Sam mellinger who's played NFL games made three NFL starts wouldn't you rather he's going into that type of chaos than someone who's never played an NFL game before I I would um and you have so many practice squad spots I think you can keep Jason being around even if he's not your you know third quarterback Cuts due by four o'clock today jol Erikson joining us he's from the Star he joins us Payless liquor hotline Joel I think galani Woods may have been the answer until the injury who do you think is the most difficult player that the Colts could get rid of today that they would not be able to get back on the practice squad anybody that that they would actually be worried of losing that might be there in the Forefront of your mind I I think it's I think it's depending on you know what they want to do a corner I think the possibility of if you cut a draft pick is is always difficult because you looked at like Darius Rush last year you know they cut Darius rush and um he immediately ended up somewhere else he has hasn't really panned out for him since since they made that move but in the moment it's hard to get those rookies back who are draft picks because they're guys that other people scouted and liked and stuff like that so if they're if they're thinking about make if they're thinking about cutting a Jaylen Simpson or uh Jon Alo or somebody like that like those guys those guys often get picked up on the waiver wire just because they were draft picks and he is jol Ericson he's with us here from the Indianapolis Star Joel let me throw three names at you Evan Hall Ashton dlan Dallas flowers you think any of them should be sweating today outside of the heat more so I would say I would say Evan Hall more so than the other two um Duan was back in his usual Gunner spot uh in the last preseason game plus I think uh you know before he hurt his hamstring he was kind of Joe Flaco's favorite receiver at the second team and he plays a lot on the like their big packages on the first team so I think duan's pretty safe flowers has been pretty clearly their fourth Corner throughout Camp they never really gave Daryl Baker or Amir speed or Jaylen Simpson that chance um Hull is kind of more in the to me I think is probably kind of more in the in the spot where he's worried about what's going on at other positions I I was thinking yesterday does um does the does the the NFL paa rule change end up affecting him you know because if you decide to keep that third quarterback maybe you're losing it from another offensive skill position I thought he had a good camp I just don't know that I thought I think Tyler Goodson in the last couple weeks um just a little bit more a little bit more burst through the whole uh a little bit more explosiveness and this is an offense that this that is is predicated on explosiveness and a reason why I put out those three names to you Joel is Chris balard loves the trenches more than you love your kids like I mean it it's you know yesterday when Ellinger news broke or the third quarterback news broke I pinched a number from the o line and I laughed at myself doing it saying that that's not what Chris balor's going to do like he's not going to take away from the trenches Kevin and so I bring that up to say four running backs six wide outs four tight ends that's a lot at the offensive skill in Ballard Ballard's world now you could counter and say hey Trey sur's banged up and Josh DS is banged up so right now you need some some insurance there but that that I I just I guess wanted to give a little background on why I went with those three names whereas you know I think a lot of people including myself would say yeah do you really need a ninth offensive lineman do you really need a 10th defensive lineman kind of along those lines yeah and I think I think you know centering in on on running back being the spot where you might where they might end up making that move I've just been thinking like Dulan and go and Anthony Gould both play definitive special teams roles there was at least one kick return I believe in Cincinnati where all where the all three tight ends who weren't named Moi Cox were on the field for the kickoff return tight ends can kind of play a lot of special teams I haven't the the running backs have obviously played some special teams but they they don't seem to be as big a part of the first team unit although you know they could those decisions can go either way but I that's the other thing is when you start getting down to the end here um and you're you're trying to fill out these spots there's going to be some spots where I think fans are always confused every year hey how come this guy's staying if he's not a big time player on defense it's like well he's a big time player on special teams and the dynamic kickoff probably adds a little bit of importance back to that those spots jool a Ericson with us from the Star he joins us pay L liquor hotline on this Tuesday uh I don't know five six days ago you reported this significant injury to the toe there with galani Woods underwent a surgery uh he was the name obviously that we're going to talk a lot about Joel today uh and really leading up to Cuts today had he been healthy that injury what do you think how long will it go into the season what do you think the future is of galani woods here in Indianapolis well I know I know it's expected that he's I know it's generally expected that that he should be able to play again this year um but my understanding is that it's it's going to be a while so I I think the most likely thing is IR with the possibility of return um as far as this future Indianapolis it's it's it's really really tough um to be a young player and to lose a season and a half two seasons whatever backto Back due to injury um it just it gives other guys a chance to establish themselves you are you are always coming back so you can't really be like the full version of yourself that we saw against say Pittsburgh his rookie year uh it's it's a tough spot to be in uh when you've when you've been hurt seriously two two seasons in a row because uh especially when you don't have the track record of well I mean like this is a this is a random name pulled from you know somewhere else but like Denver got rid of Tim Patrick yesterday Tim Patrick hasn't played in two years and he's a veteran even with the track record they ended up moving on from him so it it's tough when you lose significant time two years in a row due to injuries Die Hard Brewers fan he'll be all over the cuts coming up today over the next handful of hours Joel a Ericson from the star with us on the pay sckers hotline Joel follow me here if you don't mind we'll get a 53 man roster today at 4 that will Tinker a lot over the next week or so so if we fast forward to next week in the 53 man roster you think more new names on the back end of this 53 man roster in the next week or more starts for Joe flacko this season oh we all went FL we all went flacko here didn't we KB if I'm not mistaken I don't know I'm a little torn on it what what did we come up with I I think we just kind of CED out Joel and we never gave an answer to it three and a half I believe was our over under on on flacko starts I know you're not much of a gambling individual but you know care to uh you know at least play along if you don't mind I I think I'm going to go Flaco starts because it's probably one or two it's probably one or two new names I think oh I was thinking a little more like even the weird roster gymnastics like if you remember and you certainly do like technically Isaiah Mckenzie was cut last year and then 48 hours later he was back so again the 53 man roster today at 4 how many different names I guess would be the better way to put it would be on the roster here a week from today I kind of put it at forish that's a good that's a good point man he's come up with a really good line I think I still I think I'm still going to go with man Joel you you sound like me getting ready to place my bet Saturday before college football that's what you sound like right now like me Notre D's first third down of the Season Saturday night this is too much stress I'm throwing at you on a Tuesday morning I I apologize Joel I I think I think I'm still gonna go I I actually think there might not be as many moves as as usual just because of how many of the depth pieces are young I'm kind of rolling through it all in my head okay all right maybe maybe I'll go flacko starts and end up being wrong about the roster machinations So based off your and if you don't mind showing your work a little bit you're saying a couple of new names and then flacko starts would be a little bit more than a couple I yeah I'm thinking like I'm thinking like it's probably one or two and then just you know the just trying to go with like other quarterbacks who've been uh who who have the mobility that Richardson has I mean you you don't want to you don't you don't know it's hard to project injuries but like you know Herz has missed a couple of games over the last couple years I think each of the last couple years I think Lamar Jackson was fine last year but had um some some you know Mis stretches the years before that I just kind of kind of going off that it's uh this is the other reason I'm a terrible Gambler is I just the percentages and kind of end up in the middle well that's not always bad trust me trust me that DraftKings account can get drained rather quickly Jolie Erikson last one for me what do you think should be the analysis what should we be talking about what's a correct analysis of what the Colts did on Thursday not kicking Matt gay in the second half and then 48 hours later releasing Spencer Sher who got the 56 and 41 yard field goal tries against the Bengals oh I mean I I think the correct analysis is that they're much less worried than everybody else's um that's they they that's like Shane Shane sten's answers on that have been um I I don't want to say dismissive because it sounds like he's he was like disrespectful everything it wasn't that but you know like he's he's not really entertained that uh even a little bit it's just been you know we think Matt gay is going to be fine and so I I would say that that's that's the biggest thing I I think the I think that you know and I know that most Colts fans are like well he's missed kicks we wanted to see him kick but the way the Colts operated was um you know we've got our kicker and then this young guy we're going to give him some kicks in the second half uh because that way he can get some stuff on tape which is what you do when you have an established kicker that's pretty standard so everything they're telling us is we don't think Matt gay is as big a deal as you guys do he's already been all over it in the last 24 he could he will continue to be that here over the next uh seven or eight as we get ready for roster Cuts in in ballor fashion this will probably occur about 3:58 p.m. coming up later today Joel a Ericson from the Star Joel thank you sir we will see you uh tomorrow yep see you tomorrow that's jool Erikson Colts back to practice tomorrow Chris Ballard will meet the media tomorrow in kind of an annual post roster cut down press conference probably the last time we hear from ballor potentially All Season yeah I was about to say you better get your questions in for Balor now you know obviously at the end of the year whether they make the playoffs or not you know one thing before we get to a morning checkdown here that I wanted to follow up on that we talked about at the beginning uh of that conversation with Joel and that is yeah I noticed yesterday you know looking at different projections uh Jake Arthur Who of course does the stuff for for SI just looking at different projections for the Colts and mostly everyone is kind of locked in you know the Sam Ellinger quarterback do you keep three quarterback That's A Conversation Piece you know that final offense or defensive lineman you know I mean that's basically truly back end of the roster guys but I wanted to bring up I noticed it and we talked about it today more than I think we have talked about it at all leading up to today KB and that is them only keeping three running backs do you have a strong opinion on that because I think with the Trey Surman injury you can't do that I mean we're talking about a twoe hamstring injury um the thought is if I remember Shane Sten said on Sunday we hope Trey will be back next week right he said that about Surman and JuJu BR he basically gave the same answer on both guys that would mean a three-week hamstring injury and you're leaving him one week to ramp it up for Houston uh that's not enough insurance for me at that position I am probably a more of a Believer though that ah three running backs and one on your practice squad I think you can kind of live with that if the three are healthy but I think given the situation right now and I thought Evan Hall and Tyler Goodson both had nice preseason sure so I I think both of them you know it's it is a position I think you could pinch from but the sermon injury I think is what has made me go from uh three isn't the end of the world four is probably a little safer right now so but I I I think it's a fair question to bring up when everybody's healthy well I mean that that's how I feel as well if Trey Surman were healthy and good I Goodson has looked better than Evan Hall I I I think if you just took those two guys I think I think the majority of people would probably go with Goodson I think I would be fine with three running backs if not for the Surman injury and then I also wonder about this you know boy you're going to see a lot of notable running back names who are probably released in the next couple hours right and so I just feel like that's a position as well that if you told me Evan Hall was not on the roster he somehow got picked up and didn't make it through waivers I would say you could go now the guy might not be as young but you could go get a guy that could provide you you know a practice squad player that could be a veteran running back or even maybe a running back or young running back that gets cut but I think with Surman being out you can't trust listen you can't trust a hamstring injury to be to be back and to be ready to go and to not be reag rated at some point this season you just can't the NFL news item of the day yesterday CD lamb 34 million annually that is second among all white outs to Justin Jefferson if you want to look back on the Michael Pitman Jr contract that contract around 23 million annually so Pitman right now slots in as the 14th highest paid white out that does not include what you would assume is a pending deal at some point for Brandon auk and then we'll see exactly when Jamar Chas still has two more years left on his deal but you know you could be looking at Pitman Jr potentially when week gets here is the 16th highest paid wide out in the league I think that would honestly be you know about where you'd slot him in among League rankings which typically when guys sign extensions there's kind of that one-year buffer where they're way above where you'd slot them in in terms of their league positional rankings and then you know over that next kind of couple of years they kind of slot a little bit more into the norm if you will and it got me thinking back to when we had Michael Pitman Jr on the show uh on Colts training camp moving day and I thought the Pitman answer in regards to NFL white outs and their contracts with the full acknowledgement of he's not CD lamb I thought was a pretty interesting one again for those that missed it here was Pitman with us uh back on report day nationally a lot of talk right now is around white outs in the contracts you know right now Brandon auk this CD lamb that similar same draft class as you you mentioned this in June I was curious if you could expand on it for our audience that missed it you like your contract yeah why because you see some of the monetary Valu it's like wait a minute if I could have waited a little longer I could have made even more absolutely I mean I mean I think the guys have to realize that that you also have to look at your situation and your offensive scheme and and you don't want to leave a system that works for you right because like we've seen guys who are really good like in a certain system and then they go somewhere else and they kind of fade off right so you have to have that foresight by hey if I'm keep on doing what I'm doing I'm going to sign a third maybe even a fourth and you'll end up making more in the long run versus right now and and um so that would just be my like advice like those guys but also I mean I mean they have to take care of their families and do what they think is right um and and to me I mean when you get to a certain amount of money it's like like it's like yeah like you want to see your value with like other guys that you consider yourself but like you get to a certain amount it's like it's like just like you don't really need more than that so like so like it's all kind of the same right so that's kind of how I look do I don't know I'm listening back to that if that weren't Michael Pitman and I didn't know the kind of guy Michael Pitman was and I was you know I was living in too Ohio when I heard that I would think that he's full of bleep doesn't sound too much like a diva white out does it it sounds like the opposite wide receiver yeah most guys get to that point where they describe how they want to be rewarded and they go with you know I just want to be respected to where I think I am in regards to other white outs around the league that that that or you know insert your position here that's kind of how you know uh these players operate when they do talk about their contract situations whereas Pitman just says I mean you get to a point where 23 million annually I I mean I I think I can make do with that I think we can make the make the farm you know be at a competent level uh make sure all the animals feel like they are well served let me ask you this if if this was a sticky situation again this is not Michael pitman's flow okay I'm not saying it's a bad thing I'm not saying what Brandon iuk is doing and what CD lamb did what Jamar Chase next year with the Bengals no doubt will do in my mind like I'm not denouncing those guys go get your money uh these are you know Jerry Jones is worth 10 plus billion dollars go get a few more millions of dollars this is your chance to cash in I mean Pitman could have extracted more money from the Colts the Colts are sitting there with a bag of money right now yeah I I think I think he could have tried to go a little bit and again is this the give and take could he have gone higher annually but then the Colts say all right we want to attack another year onto it we don't want you to hit the open market you know as quickly as you would like that's what Pitman wants sure and again if you play this out he's on a three-year extension 2024 2025 2026 that means next season Michael Pitman Jr in his eyes that's a contract year he views it as sure it is getting through next season not this season right here he's only 26 but getting through the 2025 season and he views it as all right if I get through that season and I continue to trend on the direction that I am and you throw in a few more touchdowns there then that means I would be in a contract year for 2026 and how Chris Ballard and how largely the NFL operates if you're in a contract year and you've proven your worth you want that contract ripped up and you want to sign a new deal so that's where Pitman feels like if if he's playing the money game and and if he's playing the player driven game that's where he has the advantage a little bit there he might not have it in annual value in annual value he's he's 13 you know exactly he's 13th yeah he's not super high on that list uh but he likes it from a length standpoint and that he can get to the open market theoretically a little bit quicker in some of these other guys yeah I would say the only thing I disagree with Pitman on now he again he would know better than I I think Michael Pitman Jr would fit with just about any other team in the NFL I understand what he's saying he's saying all of the right things he he sounds like the perfect team player going back and and he is by the way listening to that sound but I think if you put him on you know Mark Chicago Bears if you put him I don't know why I went to them if you put him on the Bengals instead of T Higgins I think Pitman that's the kind of player I think he is I I just think Pitman you could throw him on many just about any team in the NFL I mean you threw him on Kansas City you tell me he's not catching 100 Balls luck is probably in Indianapolis this year but listen Pitman then getting the dep chart here does him a lot of favor and I don't think the depth chart in other places would do him as much favor sure that's fair I mean you know in Philadelphia something like that he get peppered with targets here I don't think that would be the case everywhere else uh all right in a few IU football chatter Matt Weaver going to join us here from pigs.com as we are a handful of days away from the Kurt cetti day debut against Florida International we'll talk with Matt about all the anticipations certainly a highly anticipated year for the hooers not something you typically say uh is a bull game and a bull win for the first time since 1991 how realistic is that we'll do that in a few before that let's start the morning checkdown down in the ATL all right so I'm going to need consensus with the show here as we start a morning checkdown fever winners last night like KB mentioned in Atlanta 8479 your final had a dou what 16 17o lead uh it got all the way down to three they hung on congratulations to them still the seven seed do I play do I play Fever sound giving that the sound wasn't great it you know it sounds like the microphone's 32 ft away I say we give one more College try and then Woodson in the barn after a win over Minnesota we drop it like world history 101 so it so it so it sounds like it's up to me it sounds like KB's a no but it sounds like Mark you might be a yes you want one more try we get one more try all right here's Christy sides talking about Lexi Hall who I had two points but played great defense got some loose balls got some rebounds played 30 minutes last night she's been a huge part of this team after the break here's head coach Christy side Lexi did a great job between her and Kelsey Garden Ry and and gray just really they had a hard time getting going um but Lexi defensively and then like Kaitlin said had that big um shot at the end but then also was able to get it out to Caitlyn or Kelsey late and uh they knew to pull it out and run that clock down so um Lexi just you know she's whatever we need whatever the fever needs that's what NY hole does for us that actually sound a little better than the Caitlyn Clark one did earlier maybe you're glad you went to one more class maybe the Mike's in the middle of the table and that's where Christy sides is sitting there if I had to guess on that I would say so what did you say I thought besides voice sounded the best we've heard it all year in a post game listen she got a month off yeah it's a great point that voice that voice got a month off too it's not just the players that got time off for the for the USA break she was needing to yell a whole lot in the fourth quarter last night that was a very much three-run lead in the bottom of the ninth you've walked the base is loaded you've walked in one run you've walked in two runs and you're thinking to myself oh my gosh can they kneel the ball is that allowed in basketball can they get to Triple zeros here uh they somehow found a way Lexi Hall did have a big hustle play there late Kelsey Mitchell with an an one Mitchell Boston outstanding in the first half Caitlyn Clark her typical self in the second half and a very important win over a team just below Indiana in the standing so the head-to-head over Atlanta is clenched it will be the Connecticut Sun who has beaten the fever all three times they've met this season the lone home game of the week 7 o'clock tomorrow night all right Major League Baseball from yesterday kind of a quiet Monday uh the white sock stink and the Cubs scored what three touchdowns yeah and a couple extra points well they missed all three extra points right three touchdowns three missed extra points yeah they won 18 to eight 18 to 18 good for them Pates the wind blowing out yesterday what was the uh I know was the reasoning that well you know the Pirates were emotionally drained after that big three out of four against the Reds over the weekend you know you can't expect them to bounce back on a Monday they needed a day off they weren't used to another team playing offense against them for a few days so imagine being emotionally drained uh Indianapolis Indians back at home it's going to be a hot one over a Victory Field today double header tomorrow that is Tucker barnhard right and the Louisville Bats in town for that dollar menu night get those beverages oh is it they might need to pay you to show up boy I tell you that's going to be hot with 95 96 degrees couple different NFL nuggets before we take a break cidi lamb we've talked about it he got that contract yesterday four years 136 million 100 Mil guaranteed 38 mil as a signing bonus that's most ever for a wide receiver and then Malik Willis if you remember back to the 2022 uh NFL drab Malik Willis taken there in what the third round he's traded to the Packers for a seventh round or so all of his analytics are not good for Malik Willis so we'll see if the you know the Packers get a guy like that Mark I know you're out of this conversation it almost feels like the Packers feel like there's actually something there I mean they're pretty they have a pretty good who was their backup when it comes to quarterbacks I guess a green B would be a team that I believe I don't know who their backup was I got to be honest now Mason Rudolph in Nashville he is yeah Mason Rudolph is the top guy so if I gave you guys like 20 20,000 guesses you would never even figure out who else is on their roster for the quarterback position no idea go ahead Sean Clifford okay Tad Bole or is he did he follow Rogers to the Jets I think he's gone the fourth quarterback is Michael Pratt Tain now he got injured too maybe that what they did I know I know prac did get injured in the preas got a lot of people have been high on okay there you go well there you go little Little Green Bay back of the roster quarterback talk the uh Jaguars are releasing veteran safety Terrell Edmonds today so oh boy get ready chis Colts could be interested safety help I I'm sure uh let's take a break coming up next uh IU football why is the optimism there for IU football it's a good question Matt Weaver from pigs.com he'll join us next e e e e e e e e quite the hype meter in Bloomington right now for the football season which sounds like if you were living under a rock for the last year you'd be like wait what am I listening to The Onion here on this Tuesday Morning The Babylon B that is what has occurred thanks to the smoke from Kurt signat he'll try to turn that into some tangible results starting Saturday Florida International our next guest Matt Weaver from ps.com joining us here uh Matt uh certainly a DieHard Reds fan no Matt we will not talk about the bleep show that is in Cincinnati here right now thankfully for both of us uh let's start here where have you seen fan interest I I would argue through the roof like in what ways have you seen it reach a level that is someone that has covered IU football for long time certainly never has sniffed where we're at I think heading into 2024 well for me I mean I spend most of my time on our site um I've seen it change there I mean you start seeing you know basketball people coming over to the football board to talk football uh and I'm not saying that represents everybody but you know when you see stuff like that that's that tells you that you know people are getting their ears perked up because of what Chris ketti you know the the personality that he's brought to Indiana football since he was hired last December I have no idea how they're doing on ticket sales um but I would I would I would assume they're probably up a little bit but for Indiana you know that's not an incredibly High bar obviously um and then on Twitter you see it you see people more people talking about it you know you'll see IU football trending more than I think I've ever seen it before at times on when something happens so I mean I think there's definitely a level of interest that hasn't been there for a really long time maybe ever um since I've been covering the program um so you know obviously he said it before this is the time to talk is over now it's time for results and production and you know we'll see we'll see how they look on Saturday Matt Weaver pigs.com joining us Payless liquor hotline on this Tuesday Matt I'm wondering the biggest difference and I know you it's not like the Colts you don't get to see all the practices there in Bloomington that we do uh with an NFL team but uh what you think will be the biggest difference when when fans flip on the TV or at the stadium there on Saturday from last year to this year what do you think the noticeable differences will be right away with that team well I think there'll be a more disciplined team I was actually looking at this this morning um Indiana last year penalties and like turnover margin and James Madison it just and it's obviously a small sample size it's one season but Indiana was 10th in both of those in the Big 10 so bottom third um James Madison was second I think in turnover margin and and right here the top and and when I mean penalties I mean how many you commit so like obviously the last you commit the higher you are in your in your conference and I think that's something you'll see I mean you know you don't when you're in Indiana you don't have a roster where you can hurt yourself with mistakes I mean mistakes are going to happen but you can't be turning the ball over you can't be committing stupid penalties you just don't have the talent to overcome it and I think that's something you'll see I think offensively you're going to see a much better product than you've seen the last few years um you know like this is it this is a staff Kurt cetti and Mike shanan is OC that's they've had some of the best offices wherever they've been um you know in relation to their peers and their conference um their quarterback play has been great they they get production from receiver Indiana wide receiver room is loaded um the running backs are productive so I think that's what you'll see um you know and then defensively I think you'll see a more aggressive attacking unit the defense of Indiana even under Tom Allen had fallen off the last couple years so I think you'll see it on that side of the ball you know some things maybe what you saw more of in like uh 2020 when Kane wilck I'm not saying it's going to be the same kind of Defense but you know that defense was opportunistic they they led the country I believe in turnover margin or takeaways I should say um not saying that will happen this year but I think you're going to see a defense that's really going to try to put a ton of pressure on the opponent now we'll see how that works out but I just think you're going to see a different mentality from Indiana football and you know hopefully that that results in you know much more success on the field and then as a followup the level in your opinion again we need to see this all happen in front of us the level of talent is where this year compared to maybe a year even two years ago with Tom Allen you know this is the thing you know Allen and his staff did a pretty good job recruiting for by Indiana standards the problem I think they had is you know the development was not there I mean when you look at recruit rankings and in football it's it's such a crap suit because you don't see these guys it's not like in AU basketball where you see the number one and the number two player go against each other multiple times or the number 100 101 player you don't see that in football and if you do it's in the underwear Olympics and the combo comined in the summertime where they're in shorts and a t-shirt um and that's not football so you know to me when you get into the three star rankings which is where Indiana a lot of schools live the majority of schools live it's about development and I think you're going to see better development from the staff now I'm not sitting here predicting eight wins or something I think you will see a better product we'll see how that is the other thing is with the portal it's so hard to talk about Talent level they brought a lot of guys from like obviously James Madison and some other guys from and they were good players there how does that translate poor recruiting like high school recruiting not all these guys are going to pan out it's just not some of them are going to bust some of them are going to be are going to be better than you thought some are going to be worse some are gonna be what you thought It's just tough to say I think a lot of these guys from mid Majors can't translate um but you know that you know James madon last year could have beat a lot of teams in the power four well that power four level but could they do it week in and week out if it was a one game shot that's different than playing nine games against Big 10 teams so we'll see how those guys do when they have to go start going against these these kind of athletes week in and week out um and does the depth become an issue for Indiana which is one of my concerns at some spots is you know there there could be some depth issues but I think a lot of these guys can translate talent-wise I think it's probably fairly comparable um I just think I think the coaching and the development will be better we're going to tour the state all week long here in uh Bloomington here on this Tuesday morning we'll go up to West layette and South Bend as we start college football here in the state coming up on Saturday at Weaver peaks.com with us here talking IU football Matt it seems like the optimism is rooted so much in Kurt signet's just incredible bullish belief in what he has done and bringing that to Bloomington and frankly at times I think almost laughing off what has been the standard in Bloomington in you know previous whatever coaching regimes and then the schedule um if I asked you to maybe kind of make a pie chart of that uh how much do you think the belief in IU this season is is based off signet's words the schedule and then the talent those three items the words the schedule the talent how would you kind of divide that up well I would probably put signet's uh words um probably the the bigger P part of the pie chart um you know this schedule sets up great for them I mean a to home games and while you still have Michigan Ohio State on the schedule it's you know it's it's it's different than years past the big thing for me is the non-conference part is you know these are three I don't want to say gimme when you're at Indiana I don't know if you gim me but you know like Wern Illinois should be a gimme but these are games that you absolutely should win and then you know you've got seven if you take out Michigan Ohio State you still got seven games where you should have a chance to have to win not not in any way predicting they will win all seven but you have a chance to win any of those seven games so and then the talent I mean I think there's I think they've done a good job in the portal like I said I you know they brought in some guys that they brought in guys who are productive players who have played and have two threee proven results but you know it is at the mid- major level for a lot of these guys so you know the question like I said can that translate week in and week out if it can then this team has a chance I think to be pretty solid and get back to a bowl game but you know it's we'll have to wait and see how how it plays out on Saturdays but I would I would put cetti at a bigger part of that like I said the fightart and then the schedule and then um the talent would be the smaller portion when Kurt and again Matt Weaver's with us here 247 Sports peaks.com where you can find his work cover IU football when Kurt Signet talks about the previous regime he acts like he's walking into an abandoned house and it was just an absolute joke and I mean he needed to rip this thing down to the studs was it that [Music] bad well I mean I just think you know people always ask me what happened with not to not to get way back you know go on that but when he lost kayin dor when he lost Kane wack and when he lost Dave blo his Frank coach who came Indiana from you know Kevin know this from Notre Dame and he's probably one of the best if not the best in the country what he does those are your offensive coordinator defensive coordinator and your strength coach are your three most important people in your program after your head coach in my opinion and the strength coach you could put right up there the coordinators because they spend more time with anybody and I don't think those were guys were replaced and I and I think you know Tom Allen was and when these things start happening when they started having some adversity as a guy who' not been a head coach before I think it kind of Spun him out and he things went sideways and he wasn't able to get it corrected the biggest thing like I said the last couple years is the development at position groups was not there and then you're you're cycling through uh offensive coordinators you're firing o line coaches Midway through the season I mean Omar Cooper and Don mcy a couple weeks ago said they've been coached harder this year than they've ever been coached in their college careers in fact they said they haven't been coached hard since high school so you know it just kind I just think the mentality how they do things is different than what it was in the past I don't want to say it was a country Club lifestyle but I think it got a little bit easier than what it probably should be for this level of football Matt Weaver ps.com with us here on the fan last one for me Curtis roor comes in at quarterback uh KB you'll like this year number six for him he started his college career in 2019 a we were all I was in my mid-30s then living my life Matt there in 2019 your expectations of him or what this season I think he'll have a solid year I mean you know the strength of this team on offense is their skill positions receiver and running back so what he needs to do game manager is sometimes a negative connotation for guys but every quarterback in some way is a game manager some are just asked to do more than others he just needs to not lose the game for him get the ball to the right guys be smart with the football and that's something that he showed in his past I mean if he doesn't get hurt in 2022 at the end of the year I think it was against Paul State actually I'm not saying he's a starter in the NFL but he's probably on an NFL roster somewhere I mean he was getting looked at by that level and he tore his ACL and had to come back for the 23 season and obviously now he's in Indiana um he's a guy that's Got Talent he you see him on the field we don't get to see a ton of practice but he can he he's good with the ball he separated himself and practice according to coaches so he just needs to not lose the games you know get run the offense be smart with the ball take I know it's all cliches but it's true take care of the ball um and get the ball to the guys that can make plays for you the donov mcoles the Elijah saratz you know guys like that who can make plays for you um and and offense I think like I said I think this offense is going to be pretty productive Matt we'll end with this to 90% of our listening audience when I ask you a question about IU football being rumored with a five-star High School recruit at quarterback they think that I was at Pearl Jam and I didn't go to sleep last night and I'm still feeling the effects of that um this is a true headline and you have been all over the story um maybe a little elevator pitch for our audience out there on Julian Juju Lewis uh the crazy recruitment that continues to unfold and where Indiana stands well they're right there in it I mean obviously he's still committed to USC but I mean that's a soft as a commitment as you can get he's he's I think the longer this goes on the more likely he does not end up at USC because he could end this at any moment um Colorado's in it uh Auburn's in it but on the fringes and you know I'm sure Kevin is an not fan they're they're trying to flip Duce Knight um from Notre Dame and that's kind of their Focus right now so obviously if that happens um you know there's there's not going to be a spot for Julian at at Auburn so I think it could come down to Indiana and Colorado assuming if you assume that USC is is he's just kind of staying there because he's been committed but he just hasn't made you know announced it um but they're in it and obviously let's be honest nil is going to come into play I I've heard that Indiana has a competitive nil package for him um and so I don't think that's going to be an issue um it's just you know I think I think the biggest thing honestly is not just with him any a lot of these guys coming out publicly and saying I'm going to Indiana I'm turning down USC I'm turning down you know these other big schools to go play a school where obviously there's been very very little success and obviously the last few years it's been you know pretty awful but I they have they have a legit shot and you know I think I actually think the longer it goes and if if they can come out and play well in the first few weeks I if this goes into September then that tells me he wants to see teams play and I think it's going to go into this upcoming month and um you know Florida International Western Illinois don't really push the needle at all but if he sees some things he likes maybe that's enough to get him to uh to make that decision when you say competitive nil offer are we talking seven figures uh yes we are there we go there we go college football baby 2024 country that Bloomington War chest baby it's what I'm talking about Matt as always man great stuff uh always have enjoyed the college football coverage when it comes to the hooers I know more more eyes are on it this year so uh congrats on that and looking forward to Saturday thanks guys have a great week that is the great Matt Weaver pigs.com 247 again juj Lewis there is a lot when you hear committed to USC thinking about Colorado uh that probably tells you everything you need to know about uh all that's going on in this recruitment here there's a lot there's a lot okay well number one USC is going to get dog walked in the big in the Big 10 a little bit I think Lincoln Riley is going to be one of those guys we talk about and you know Dion I could see Prime you know be the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys next year if you ask me you know is he going to be at Colorado for an entire recruitment for you know a kid who's going to be somewhere three years four years I doubt that's the case but Mark we need to pause things before we take a break I mean if cetti goes in there to to South Bend and pulls du Knight boy this Kurt Signet story won't be as fun for you will it how about that no you didn't you you you didn't fall that Auburn is the team that trying to get yeah yeah and the domino effect there would obvious be good for IU because that would take alurn out of the juju Lewis no if if we're losing recruits to Kurt Signet we got to look in the mirror listen I perked up I thought okay I looked up Duce mcnight or Duce Knight excuse me I looked him up I said all right let's go let's go number two kid in the entire state of Mississippi let's go it's going be a fly on the wall of the Bowen household if IU somehow stole a recruit from Notre name IU's on the schedule coming up I think in a handful of years at Purdue coming up in 2033 just a reminder of IU's schedule this year again we have 18 Big 10 teams okay if you go off the preseason rankings of those 18 teams all right this is the number team that IU will play this year based off those rankings in the Big 10 the 15th team the 11th the 14th the eth the 10th the 16th the fourth that would be Michigan by week you play the first team Ohio State and then Purdue as the last yeah I gotta get up to a game I'm going to an IU football game this year there's no doubt about it non-conference FIU Western Illinois Charlotte why is optimism High because of that boom yep absolutely home games absolutely should be a fun season play Oregon Penn State Iowa USC pretty good or Wisconsin it's pretty good of course the flip side is IU had to play those teams every single year and got their brains beated uh so very much of the time quick break we'll come back we'll wrap up the hour more Colts cut conversation we'll do that in some fantasy football conversation coming up at 9:00 appreciate you waking up with us wake up call 935 1075 The Fan e e e e e e e e coming up if you've got any fantasy football questions do you want us to throw Marcus grants way he's going to join us at n it's probably a pretty popular week right for fantasy football drafts oh yeah you better believe it yeah this is the week again roster cut day today around the NFL a lot of fantasy football stuff so anything you want us to toss Marcus's way we will do that here coming up in the 9:00 hour still three spots left in the league is that right Mark correct yeah three spots good luck left uh do you want me when there's a safety that gets released to announce that on the air or do you not care for instance the bills release safety Kareem Jackson today wow he's still around he's been in the NFL for 15 years I feel like he's um did you want me to announce that I feel like he's had a few big penalties against the Colts back in it's just it's a notable name I don't know what to tell you played in Houston for I don't know eight years nine years he played in Denver then last year back in Houston I I don't know he didn't play much last year last two years only played 10 games I'm kind of done with the safety stuff I'm just like you f with it I'm fine with it they're not going to do anything so why should I bother paying a ton of attention to it but waiver claims are a big part of the next 24 hours so we'll see and roster Cuts today at 4 that waiver cycle will play out uh with the Colts finishing the middle of the pack of the NFL last year they've got a middle of the pack waiver claim priority so we'll see who are the new faces if you want to be optimistic Kenny Moore and Jack Doyle uh pretty good comping obviously a lot of others in that time frame as well but uh certainly two very nice finds on the waiver Clan you tell you tell me if I'm wrong I think to me the Sam Ellinger stuff uh do they keep three quarterbacks what do they do there uh I think that to me is probably number one and then I think number two is running back do they think they can get away even with the Trey Surman injury KB do they think they can get away with just three or do they go four and that's probably means someone somewhere else won't make the roster I'm also curious how many draft picks they cut some of my colleagues had them cutting three draft picks I mean that that that seems like a lot that's kind of a big number there I did not have that many so you know that's just always something to keep an eye on obviously last year Darius Rush was a big draft pick name they cut uh we'll see uh how that plays out here coming up as the day moves along all right coming up next who to draft who not to draft who do you pick who do you avoid Marcus Grant NFL Network we'll talk some fantasy football with him 9:00 hour around the corner appreciate you hanging out with us wake up call 935 1075 The Fan e e e e e e it is some fantasy time drafts abundant here we'll have ours on the show coming up next week as we get things started nine days away from the season opener again Thursday Friday Sunday Monday we get a whole lot of action in week one that game in Brazil between the Eagles and the Packers and to talk more about fantasy football and all of your drafts upcoming courtesy of NFL Network nwor he is Marcus Grant NFL network analyst and you can see Marcus on NFL fantasy live which airs Monday through Friday 6:00 pm. Eastern on NFL Network Marcus I've said this before and thank you for the time I am an extremely mediocre to poor fantasy football player I need two to three just core draft beliefs if you made a fantasy football Bible and it was three pages long give me what's on page one two and three uh page one is that right now you need to make sure you get yourself a quality running back at least one somewhere in the first two rounds of your draft uh number two is look you need to probably load up on wide receivers we live in a PPR World points per reception so wide receivers are very popular and while it looks deep it's a position that tends to hollow out very quickly so uh make sure in in the middle round somewhere between rounds three and six you're hammering the wide receiver position uh the final p piece is wait to get your kicker wait to get your kicker in defense until maybe your last two picks of the draft don't feel like you immediately just have to fill out your starting lineup over the course of the draft you can wait till the end and get those final two positions so no quarterback core Philosophy for you not really it's sort of changed over the years because it used to be that you would wait on a quarterback that that you were just naturally going to wait until rounds N9 or 10 before you filled that position now it's sort of changing and that it's okay to go a little bit earlier like I tend to wait maybe until the fourth or fifth round before I think about a quarterback your top level guys your you know Josh Allen Patrick Mahomes Jaylen Herz those guys are coming off the board probably in the second round second or third round that's a little bit too early for me but you can wait until say the fifth round you can find yourself maybe Lamar Jackson Anthony Richardson is incredibly popular in the sixth round this year so the the theory on drafting quarterbacks has evolved a little bit in the last four or five years Marcus Grant hanging out with us pay lless liquor hotline we're talking some drafts all right Marcus so I have a couple drafts already in my pocket I have a couple still remaining okay but uh I've had two drafts and there's like three guys that I don't know what to do with I'm just going to throw these so this is a little selfing selfish this is weak it's it's it's selfs serving but I but I think the audience will appreciate it okay and they're guys that are because you win not at the very top in my opinion you win by getting quality players in round four 5 6 seven and eight right guys that are starting guys that are out outperforming their average draft position the three are I'll make this simple Christian Kirk he's about a what about a fourth fifth rounder okay I have no idea what's going to happen there in Jacksonville Calvin Ridley do we believe in him more than new Hopkins and then what do we do with Raheem moer who is the fourth overall running back last year but there's no way in hell Marcus he can have more than 20 touchdowns this year can he and he's a 32y old running back but he's a good player and he's available in like seventh eighth ninth rounds in a lot of drafts because people aren't thinking of them those three particular guys take it anywhere you want all right well I'll first I'll say that of the three that you mentions the one that I am the shakiest on is probably Calvin Ridley um you know last year was just sort of a eh year for him in Jacksonville I mean uh now he goes to Tennessee where we have even bigger questions about will Levis than we have about Trevor Lawrence he does have nuke Hopkins there who look granted DeAndre Hopkins is not the player he once was but still a guy who can command a lot of Targets in the context of that offense plus I just don't know how good of a team the Titans are going to be this year so he's the one I'm most concerned about Christian Kirk I like when he's healthy he's been very productive and so I think where you're drafting him you're sort of baking in the possibility of him maybe missing a couple of games due to injury it has sort of been the mo across his career but I me we all sort of laughed at the Jags when they spent big money on Christian Kirk and really he sort of paid that off when he's been on the field for them so I'm okay with him as you know a second or maybe third receiver depending on where you got him in your draft I love Raheem moster okay because because of the draft position because of the draft like and I'm with you like the chances of him scoring 21 touchdowns again this year probably pretty small but it's essentially a two-man backfield with him and Devon aan I I I know people love aan and he's going in the third round but I think what going to happen is that they're going to have similar production when it's all said and done but you can get moster five to six rounds later in draft so I think both of those guys will probably look ler is not going to score 21 touchdowns Devon anan's probably not going to average eight yards per carry the way he did last year but I do think it's going to work out because they're both a big part of a very productive high-scoring offense so i' he's been a guy that I've drafted if I go running back early and I tend to wait um he's the guy that I'll draft as my second or third running back right around round eight or nine you can follow Marcus Grant on Twitter m a RC SG uh that is Marcus's Twitter profile there and see him on the Fantasy Life which airs Monday through Friday 6 PM Eastern on NFL Network Marcus how attractive are any of the rookie quarterbacks to you if at all um they are mostly the the top two right uh and I've gone back and forth early on in fantasy draft season I was big on Jaden Daniels because we love quarterbacks who can run with the football I it's the reason that we love Anthony Richardson we're still waiting to see if he can develop how much he develops as a passer but we know he runs with the ball Jaden Daniels similarly he had over a thousand yards his final season at LSU on the ground and I think right now he's probably more of a polished passer than guys like Richardson or Justin Fields were coming into the league so love him uh and I've I've grown so it's weird with me and Caleb Williams I I will admit Peak behind the curtain I am a USC Homer I've watched Caleb Williams the last two years very excited about him was cautiously optimistic about what he could be in the NFL but having watched him in the preseason it does seem like the adjustment period the learning curve may be shorter than I anticipated so very big uh on Caleb Williams as well the good news is you don't have to reach for either one of those guys I think D Daniels is going right around qb12 Williams going around qb3 so you can wait until rounds nine or 10 I think in a lot of leagues before you draft those guys I think the upside is huge I would also caution that if you're drafting them I would also make sure you just get a more kind of steady guy that you can plug in you know just in case the matchup is bad or something like that but I do think the ceiling is very high on both those quarterbacks okay let's shift gears to the Colts and their skill group under the assumption that you're a believer in Jonathan Taylor uh Michael Pitman Jr Josh DS some of the other wide outs anybody in the tight end room how do you kind of view the Colts in their skill room yeah no Jonathan Taylor is a guy who's going in the first round in a lot of drafts understandably I mean it was it was just a couple years ago we were talking about him kind of as a consensus number one overall pick Michael Pitman another guy that I really do love kind of a third round or so pick a nice sort of low-end wide receiver one high-end wide receiver two option after that it's a little bit murky I think you know people are taking shots on Josh DS he's a guy that has some potential I do like ad Mitchell I think he's another guy that you can take some swings at but these are guys you're looking at sort of in the later rounds probably not going to be every week starters for you but when the matchups are right or if one of those guys just sort of emerges and uh and and carves out a bigger role for himself in the offense than we anticipated then maybe he can work his way into your lineup but you know later rounds you're looking for guys with upside tend to be younger players and I think you know guys like downs and Mitchell fit that bill Marcus Grant NFL Network joining us here pay less liquor hotline on this Tuesday on the fan all right Marcus so let's go let's stick with the Colts let's go to Anthony Richardson if you're drafting if you're a Colts fan and you know how this is uh you know if it's fifth round right around the fifth round or so sixth round and you draft Anthony Richardson there starts to be sometimes around then a little bit of a run on quarterbacks right then you know Lamar goes and Mahomes goes and CJ and you take Anthony Richardson knowing the injury history how soon do you take another quarterback do you wait all the way to the very end or you know four or five picks later do you burn another pick on a quarterback because Anthony Richardson only played in four games last year how would you handle that you're probably going to wait till I would say around you know round 12 or so um you know like because you're in the sixth round you're spending a fair amount of draft capital on your quarterback and when you do that you you you you're sort of making a statement right that I believe this is my guy but I do think as you mentioned you sort of have to hedge because of the potential for injury so if you wait till say round 12 13 something like that there are still some guys out there that maybe AR necessarily splashy names but can be solid guys like kurk cousins Matthew Stafford um you know Gino Smith who I think can have a decent year in Seattle those are the guys that you sort of use that are are solid number two quarterbacks for your fantasy team so that way you've sort of planted your flag a little bit on Richardson but you've gotten yourself a little bit of an insurance policy in case the worst happens Marcus Grant is with us here you can follow him on Twitter again at Marcus G that's MCAS uh and and you can see him on the n Fantasy Life which airs Monday through Friday 6 p.m. Eastern on NFL Network Marcus we'll end with this I was scrolling through your Twitter you said a handful of days ago I once called a minor league baseball game where one player played for both teams in the same game can you tell us more yeah no so I I spent two years broadcasting Minor League Baseball on the radio um at the time I was working in the A's organization and the A's had two teams in the same league so uh I worked for the velia Oaks we were playing the Modesto A's uh the game we started was suspended in the bottom of the first inning because a water main broke underneath the field soaked the entire playing surface made it unplayable uh so sound we had to suspend of the game so and reschedule it for later in the year Modesto's catcher uh had been sent to Triple A as an injury replacement to fill in for somebody spent a couple of weeks up there when they sent him back down to single a where we were uh instead of sending him back to Modesto where he had been they sent him to us in velia so then when we restarted the game like a month or two later uh he had already been in the lineup as the starting catcher for Modesto Midway through he came in as a pinch hitter for velia ended up getting a first or at least not I don't know if he was the first but he became a player who played for two teams in the same game I love it I love Minor League Baseball that's fantastic I feel like you get stories like that that's great that is outstanding stuff uh Marcus thank you for the time I know it's super super busy time of year great work uh and really appreciate the Insight here on this Tuesday morning I appreciate you guys thanks that is from the NFL Network Marcus Grant a little higher on Michael Pitman Jr than Dave Richard was with us who we had on from CBS Sports last week I do think Pitman is an interesting case study yeah I mean Pitman is like to me he's one of those guys if I told you he's GNA get seven catches for you know 80 85 yards that you could penccil feel like that's a given each you could pencil him in and you know if you look at PPR scoring Point per reception and everything else you know if you're telling me he can get you 14 to 16 every week There's great I want to be clear there's Great Value the thing that holds him back is always the touchdowns what was it four touchdowns last year not targeted in the red zone of course if you have Richardson you have Jonathan Taylor some guys like that you can understand it but uh you know can he get you instead of 14 can he get you 22 that's always the question of fantasy football but I thought his answer was interesting with Anthony Richardson I have struggled with that myself I been in drafts where there has been there are fantasy owners that don't believe in Anthony Richardson and so I've scooped up Anthony Richardson instead of other guys like a Jane Daniels or a Caleb Williams or a Dak Prescott Jared go maybe even a CJ Stroud because of the running ability but I know he's going like I just feel like yeah he's going to miss some time so how early do you go back to another pick right there at quarterback so uh super interesting Marcus was good have not had him on before good you one thing I do enjoy about today is again NFL roster Cuts coming at four o'clock you know as much as we pay attention to the Colts Cuts you do all of a sudden start to see names trickle out off of other teams and it's like oh wow that guy's still around oh yeah let me throw two of these names at you Colts fans will certainly recall both of them uh the Carolina Panthers have just cut ties with Mike drawn oh yeah Andy he was a preseason darling I remember here on multiple occasions sixth round pick one of the few uh Bahamian products ever to play in the NFL great track athlete back in the day he was were filming at the mount for Mike St when that training camp I just remember like he's going to do big things and nothing ever happened were yeah Mike St in the full route tree and special teams never really coexisted there uh was most recently in Carolina had a 45 yard catch from Bryce young last year arguably the best play of BR rookie season so he just got cut in Carolina and then you certainly will remember this story you remember the jet ski accident for nahem Hines last year oh yeah I mean it cost him his his entire season it was a terrible story horrifying a I can't even imagine it uh Hines is now in Cleveland participate in the off season he's going to remain on the non-football injury list as he continues his rehab so you know the Browns clearly think enough of him that they're still going to continue to watch him and monitor the rehab and correct me if I'm wrong Nick chub's still going to be on the pup list that probably impacts some fantasy football owners sounds like that's going to take into the month of October there so uh nahem Hines up there in Cleveland just selfishly great dude and awful story I hope he can make a comeback here in the NFL yeah because I mean he was going to be a part of that offense last year for Buffalo I mean yeah remember he um he returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown the game after the Demar Hamlin situation you remember that kind of all eyes were on the bills and the Patriots yeah I totally forgot that he did and it was nahem Hines taking it to the house did he take it to the house twice in that game or am I imagining things I know definitely the opening that that I do not remember I would have to look that up but I do now now that you mention that I do remember uh and just to bring up Demar Hamlin who of course uh had the horrific incident a couple years ago I think he's very much a bubble guy for the Buffalo Bills today I I think he's a guy that might that last year I think at times for them so certainly that is a part of roster cut down day we'll continue to monitor you know Indiana High School products and you know hopefully things continue to look not only promising for Carson Steel in Kansas City for making the roster but getting actual playing time potentially for the Chiefs as they open up their season a week from Thursday yeah I've been scouring the internet so far there haven't been there haven't been too many names that people would just flat out know I mean one um no okay Steph Gilmore but that's not Stefan Gilmore so never mind that's his brother I saw that I mean so he got waved I mean there's not there are not many names right now uh of guys that are out there that I'm like oh wow that guy got released and again you know we sit around you think Ballard's going to take his full allotment of time I think for me the interesting things today around four o'clock will be the quarterback position what goes on there at the quarterback position do they keep three do they go to and then they play out the odds of getting Sam Ellinger back I think that's key uh and if they keep Sam Ellinger what does that mean do they go three or four running backs I think both of us are kind of under the understanding I think we agree do we not that they should keep forgiving that Trey Surman is going to be basically three weeks into what can be a tricky hamstring injury uh and then you know trenches we look at offense and defensive line if they need to lose a position somewhere you just can't see Balor doing that at the line of scrimmage so you would imagine some of those guys are safe we've talked so much Dalton Tucker Danny Pinter names on the offensive line Who Am I who am I missing who are you most shaky on right now as we sit here today yeah I mean I would say definitely that offensive line Danny penter Dalton Tucker two names I've gone back and forth on um again defensive line are they definitely keeping 10 does that include Tav Bryant um if you are Chris B you keep a lot in the trenches so that's why you just try to remind everybody out there that's kind of been hiso and you know is there a fourth running back is there a six wide out you know what do they do at corner when I say they could cut three draft picks there's two at corner I think people are a bit up in the air on is Jaylen Simpson the fifth round pick out of alurn a lock is Mike Abraham the sixth round pick out of Marshall a lock if you look at special teams in that season finale I mean they played Daryl Baker Jr they played Amir speed they played Chris L man some of those guys on special teams so you think Lem man makes it because of special teams well I had Abraham just because I I I'm willing to bet a little bit more in the future I had him over lemons um Trevor denbo was a special team that's what I was thinking that I had that's what I was thinking because he's the personal protector which you know again you have a block punt in a game and you don't think anything of it then all of a sudden week 17 rolls around the guy's been doing the job all year long that's when you do think about it so um I think those are some things to keep in mind now we talked about this in the opening segment I'm a little hesitant to do it because I think it can get confusing but I do think people have interest in this stuff you brought up Sam Ellinger in the third quarterback situation yesterday uh it was announced that the NFL paa had vetoed a rule that we thought would be in place for this season and that rule meant your third quarterback could be on the practice squad you could bring him up unlimited times on game day and he would just be there an emergency the reason for this rule goes back to the NFC title game from a couple years ago when we saw Christian mcaffrey having to be the Wild Card quarter or the Wildcat quarterback for the 49ers because they lost Brock pie and Josh Johnson both during that game so the NFL said no let's allow teams to have a third quarterback and then the rule was going to be a practice squad guy the NFL PA has vetoed it now I bring that up to say two things one it could be great news for Sam allinger in maintaining a spot on the 53 man roster but then two some people have questioned like why are they doing this right and why not my thing was more the tiny we're 24 hours before cuts and we've been talking about this rule I guess wrongfully so for the last you know three months it feels like now I think this is less to do about direct money for guys on the practice squad versus 53 man roster and more to do it on guys getting to free agency quicker and by that I mean this we brought this up yesterday Andy if you were on the 53 man roster for the league minimum for the entire year and you were a seconde player think you'd make a hair under a million dollars if I were on the practice squad for the entire year as a first or second year player um you're making a little over 200,000 obviously that's a big gap you a little over 200,000 to you know right around a million now if you get brought up from the practice squad that's a weekly game check yeah it's a big time so you're getting nice in pay so in limited wise it's not as much as you are paying an extra player 53 man roster salary I don't think the NFL PA would obviously like that for their players it has more to do with this in my opinion if you're on the practice squad so if I'm on the practice squad that doesn't count as a year in the NFL for me if you're on the 53 man roster you get that year in the NFL so that means you're one year closer to free agency and theoretically a bigger payday whereas I am not that so I think that is why they vetoed this I know a lot of people are like wait this doesn't really make sense why would the NFL PA want to do that I think that is why now Devil's Advocate would say well the NFL PA reps all players right by vetoing this they do bring a third quarterback on the 53 man roster or at least they could but they also take a guy off the 53 man roster see that's where I at everyone's like ah it's helping the play so I'm like well it might be helping a third quarterback but it's not helping the ninth or 10th offensive lineman at all and of course the other Devil's Advocate would say well Kevin of course look how much money quarterbacks make of course they want to help the quarterbacks more than they want to help dton Tucker the undrafted free agent so I know that's some pretty deep in the weed stuff there but just a little explanation because you know I had to change my 53 man roster yesterday I decided to keep Sam Ellinger I decide to pinch from another spot and that will be a question for Chris Boward and the Colts today do they indeed keep uh Ellinger do they keep Jason Bean on the practice squad those are just some quarterback questions that we are not used to here in 20124 now if I'm not mistaken it's six or more games in any one season to a uh to Aira year in the NFL right you have to play in six games oress for six games I believe that's the number you're allowed I want to say it's three practice squad call-ups a year that's the typical number three to four I think is the cap on that um so you see teams finagle with that a whole lot I mean the Colts ofad weeks where they've rode a hot hand at running back or a hot hand at or you know they've had a multi-week injury at tight end and they've haven't felt the need to go outside of the building and call somebody up they just go to their practice squad and you know have that guy be elevated for a couple of weeks so this is all in relation to kind of the covid roster changes they've kept some of these things around and a 16 person practice squad is around we will see probably more Wednesday Thursday Andy that practice squad get assembled you asked this to jol a Erikson I wanted to double back on it kicker I would have a kicker on the practice squad sure I might be reading too much into this but go back to Thursday night Matt gay kicked a 33 yard extra point on Thursday night so I don't think he was resting due to health was he resting though due to mental health I say that in all seriousness are they worried about him mentally to the point where they don't want to run him out there have him miss a 56 y have him miss a 41 Y and now that is an extra burden that he now is living with until they get out there on September 8th would a practice squad kicker cause a hair of mental strain for Matt G I say this in all seriousness it's a it's a good question kickers are not used to that they're used to the leash being short but they're not used to competition in the building that's not something that always happens and and kickers are golfers I mean they are all by them L by their lone themselves they just stick on the sideline and they you know kick in the net and you know there's not much interaction and it is a lonely world out there when you're missing kicks so it is a thought that has crossed my mind how much of not running him out there it's a good question I mean like what did they do for Spencer shider whoopy do that they helped Spencer shider get an extra rep or two I guess you know Pat you on the back good philanthropic Nature by the Colts they cut the dude so you know I I it doesn't make sense to me question are they worried not stir up too much of the mat gay pot I would say if that's the case then they've already lost like if that's a scenario that you're just already going through your head heading into week one then that's going to be a season long issue fair point but I mean it's not a bad point it's a thought that I've had again it's a good point on Spencer Shader they bring him back to the practice squad you know what is that what does that do to the psyche of Matt gay when there's another guy sitting right there now I will say this I have been clear that I thought last Thursday they hid Matt gay I believe did they hide him mentally is what I'm asking yeah yeah I mean I whether yes I don't believe it's a physical issue he Ked yeah I don't believe it's a phys physical issue he kicked the 33 yard extra point I think the Colts would interpret what they did on Thursday KB to be we believe in Matt gay so much that okay he kicked a 33 yard uh 33 yard extra point in the first half that's good to go he got a rep that's fine but we don't need him to prove or to show us anything and to and to show that we're backing our guy we're not going to play him along with the other starters on offense and defense we're not going to play him in the second half that's I believe the message they were trying to send I believe the majority of media and fans took it the other way of hey why are you not giving him these reps and of course I think they were hiding him that probably goes a step further but I believe the cult were showing their confidence and Joel mentioned and he's right styken has been he hasn't been mean and nasty about it he hasn't been disrespectful but he has been dismissive of question he acted like it's a no big deal I mean his answers and I know he's brief but his answers have been four seconds on every time he's asked about Matt Gat no we're good there he's a professional we're good to go can't wait for the season that's literally what he said in three straight press conferences I try I I am sign my body language on the YouTube stream probably tells you more than what my words will sorry for the audio medium out there but it's certainly a thought that I have had did want to sneak this in before we recap what was a very important win for the fever last night in Atlanta C Rod asks if the Colts keep a third quarterback why not Jason Bean since he can play more than quarterback I'm keeping Jason Bean on the practice squad that would be my thought process first off he's got a shoulder injury that occurred you know Thursday night since Cincinnati we can't lose sight of that that will be an answer we'll get today put on the practice squad on the weeks you play good dual threat QBs he's perfect scout team for that and to see Rod's point he can play some other positions how I view emergency is this and I know this sounds catastrophic I know this sounds like a very small chance of this happening but it happened to San Francisco in the NFC title game if Sam Ellinger is your emergency quarterback Richardson gets hurt in the first quarter flacko gets a concussion in the third quarter you got a quarter and a half to go what you're trying to do there is bandage a bullet wound and if it's a onep possession game if you somehow have the lead can you get to the finish line and I think Sam Ellinger can carry the Jamaican bob sled more than you know Jason Bean probably can yeah does that make I mean again I know this is a very far-fetched thought it's very unlikely I like Bean continue devel him on the practice squad I got no issue with that but the emergency quarterback is literally like oh my gosh we are down to our last Bullpen pitcher can you please just somehow get a Fly ball for us right that's all we need I would say this about being does he fit the mold even though he's an undrafted guy one of the things going into the draft that I think you harped on and I agreed with it for the most part was even if it's a late round guy get a late round quarterback that St can maybe coach up to be the backup in two or three in there I mean is that Jason Bean basically he's an undrafted guy but it's the same mold if they can have have him on the practice squad I don't know I mean why not in a couple years you know you could save a ton of money if you thought he could be the backup quarterback you could save a ton of money instead of going out and spending you know five6 million do on a guy like Joe Flaco I mean obvious Flaco is what 39 I mean it's not like he's going to be your backup forever uh for what it's worth Sam ellinger's in a contract year so yes I I I I think all of those are good points uh Pop Quiz in a few 317 239 1070 I thought yesterday was one of the hardest ones of all time time I have not I have not looked at today's okay I just you want me to glance at it I just glanced at it oh boy okay the first one's easy I've heard of some of these names okay so I think it's there's an indie 11 question there's nothing that starts I gauge it if it starts on this day in 1931 that is how I gauge Scotty's Pop Quiz if we don't have that then I feel like the individual can come on here and get at least three four of these answers right I'm saying we're getting at least three here okay we'll probably mention one of the answers to the pop quiz in this morning checkdown as Andy Sweeney leads it off yeah good bounceback win last night for the fever on the road in Atlanta your final score 8479 you know the fever we talked about this earlier KB they score 30 points in the second quarter just 32 the entire second half it's going to be one of the lower halves of the year it it really was I I didn't like down the stretch I know Mitchell was so good in the second quarter I thought they needed to get the ball a little bit more to Caitlyn Clark in a shooting yeah Mitchell was trying to find the dagger yeah I mean Clark passed up like three 15 foot jumpers I know no one shoots a mid-range jumper anymore but it's basically a free throw but uh in the end the fever get the win still the seven seed now just a game and a half back of the six seed in Phoenix Caitlyn Clark 197 and seven Kelsey Mitchell led the scores there with 29 double double for aiyah Boston so all in all the stats look pretty good scoring wise last night now the Christy sides audio was good last hour so let's go back to it we good enough good enough winning close games down the stretch here's head coach Christy sides the experience that we've gotten throughout this season um it's just giv them the confidence at the end you know times like this we would have you know been a little a lot more nervous panck a little bit and they didn't and they kept getting great shots like we were shooting layups at the end um but just took care of the ball and uh only allowed him to get to the free throw line one time that whole fourth quarter which was huge all right so up next for the fever they're going to be hosting the Connecticut sun the Sun what do we say second best team in the league so that will be a big game and it's coming up tomorrow night 7 o'clock in gamebridge I'll add this it was a rather quiet Caitlyn Clark first half last night Aaliyah Boston looked like Zack Edy against Grambling Kelsey Mitchell outstanding in the second quarter that's important for this team you know if there are nights where Clark is whatever I mean last night you turned her ankle for a handful of minutes you know I if there are those nights foul trouble can your others step up and kind of carry the load and I thought Boston and Mitchell did that early on before Caitlin Clark was much much more like her normal self in the second half so again 7 o'clock tip tomorrow night all right kind of a quiet Monday Major League Baseball boy there'll be some hot ones today certainly in the midwest Indians back at home Victory Field for them against Tucker barnhard and the Louisville Bats Marx Cubs scored what two touchdowns two-o conversions and a safety that sounds like a Bears game yeah that's a scor gami the Bears scoring 18 sounds like it happened with Justin Fields 13 times in a probably it really who's the double doink kicker oh that would be uh yeah Cody Parky was it Cody Parky yeah that's Cody Parky kicking the field goals that's what it is the extra points yeah CYO Santos missing three extra point Cyro Santos is solid Santos is very good I'm trying to think a bears kicker L Robbie G Mike n ever kick for the bearers no we have some potential Pacers news do you guys want that real quick uh reports are saying Amazon wait where's the breaking news a backup lineman for Indiana got injured all right the eighth running back of the Cincinnati no uh Amazon has reportedly withdrawn its5 million offer to Diamond Sports Group the regional Sports Network carrier has reportedly uh still has the necessary funding uh from other investors to avoid that's terrible news good news what the hell Mark well that brought the entire morning down breaking Pacers news I'm thinking do we have a late August trade it's like the quietest time in the NBA calendar and that's what you deliver us I am just saying for the B Sports uh talk that we seem to do on this program talk is one way to describe it yeah it might be sticking around a little longer than we all wanted by the way speaking Amon in the stock going send out the bat signal for Scott Agnes do you see Amazon sign the the Kelsey Brothers to 100 Mil per that's absurd $100 million three-year deal for a podcast that is incredible man is that good return on investment I I have no idea but get ready for the Kelsey to just be everywhere that you look just get ready speaking of Everywhere You Look Tonight in Kansas City Greg rraw in route right now Indie 11 this is certainly one of the B if not the biggest match in franchise history again we are back on the US Open Cup schedule here four teams left three MLS teams I was talking to rake about it yesterday and I threw that George Mason analogy at him I was like okay is this George Mason in the final four rake and he's like picture D1 D2 D3 and niia all in the NCA tournament this is kind of like U Indi getting on a run but he did want to mention the MLS only sent eight teams to this year's open cup so again a little bit of a caveat in there but still it's been a pretty remarkable Run for the Indie 11 tonight 8:00 against Sporting KC that should be a great atmosphere and the game right here 8 o00 tonight on the fan that should be a great atmosphere La Seattle the other semifinal game uh and I believe I forget if it's if one of those two teams wins an indie1 wins Indie 11 would actually host oh that'd be fantastic no word yet on whether mayor hogset has decided to where that game will be we'll have to paint our chest down there and be a soccer hooligan lay down the turf in the diamond chain you know area and see if we can play the game two NFL nuggets CD lamb got paid four for 136 got the 100 guaranteed $38 million signing bonus a larges ever to a wide receiver uh we get to suck on that all week Jer Malik Willis traded to the Packers for the seventh round I did love Jerry was like of course when I walk in the room deals get done I my God I want the audio of his his supposedly ranting about being a GM that of a quote it's a yeah there's lots of beeps that would need to be put in there a lot of beeps and he's also not not remembering the last near three decades but anyway so that's fine uh Pop Quiz you guys ready to do it 31723 91070 239 1070 Pop Quiz coming up next e e e e e e e couple viewing recommendations here as we approach the start of college football season I am looking forward to consuming the Connor stallions documentary uh Netflix uh that is of course the Michigan spy for lack of a better term uh it's a great story so I will be watching that and I cannot wait to watch the Notre Dame version of Hard Knocks on peacock that is debuting coming up on Thursday oh is it really I did see Marcus Freeman said he'd play the the college football video game with his with his son and that it it it actually did help Scout the other team yeah he actually did admit that I'm a little nervous about that quote which doesn't make me feel too good I would agree it sounds like me and Mark being in you know three and four fantasy baseball leagues so we know what the hell's going on in Major League Baseball now speaking of Michigan are are you making a little venture up there here for an extended Labor Day maybe a couple days well we won't be there Labor Day because you know that that weekend about $600 to stay at like a cabin like what do you think I'm made of get your th get your Thursday Friday in there before Labor Day caller number two sound Mark caller number two that sounds like good Jimmy good Jimmy Jimmy ah good Jimmy how we doing hey doing well how are you guys now Jimmy I'd like to think you're cheering for the Irish but I Know Where Your Allegiance lies remember when we spotted Jimmy at Colts training camp Andy he was repping the you uh now we've got Miami and that is Florida correct not Miami obviously Miami Florida Gainesville playing the Gators correct Jimmy on Saturday correct and it's actually uh it actually works out well for all of us I mean that's a 3:30 kickoff and then you're Irish and the aies are at 7:30 okay those on ABC look at this this man has already scouted the TV Guide here I kind of wanted to take Florida plus the number but the number is only two and a half so if I take Florida I got to be that confident that Billy Napier is gonna actually win a big game and I'm not confident that he's going to win win a big game but I'm also not confident in anything Mario crystal ball Jim that's a struggling game is this year for the Hurricanes I think it is honestly I I think it is if not I'm going to be uh at I'm may be really nervous so you sound you sound like me the first third down on Saturday nights this is where mty's going to look at me and be like gosh you are literally insane but here we are college football is here Jimmy great to hear your voice Andy Sweeney will throw number one your way all right Jimmy listen up here we go question number one the fever beat the dream last night in Atlanta who led the game in scoring Kelsey Mitchell Tina Charles Caitlyn Clark Ryan Howard JY Mitchell that Lefty she's never seen a shot she doesn't like but boy that uh that that spark plug is very important very good contract year for her Red Sox catcher Jimmy Danny Jansen recorded a first in Major League Baseball yesterday and if you were listening in the 9:00 hour we actually brought this story up what did he do did Danny become the first player to start a game as a catcher and win it as a pitcher did he become the first player to play for both teams in a major league game did he become the first catcher to H it inside the park Grand Slam or D did he become the first player to hit for the cycle in both ends of a double header Kevin he became the first player to play played for both teams look at this good job Jimmy you can't s you're locked in all right question number three Jimmy the Dallas Cowboys signed CD lamb to a 4year $136 million deal making lamb the second highest paid nine quarterback in NFL history on an average per season basis who is the highest non-paid quarterback is it Nick Bosa Chris Jones AJ Brown Justin Jefferson Justin Jefferson look look boy good Jimmy's on fire on fire is Right Eddie Garrison points out thank you here yes Kansas City Sporting KC has been a member of Major League Soccer since 95 when the franchise was known as the Kansas City Wizards in their 30 seasons of existence how many MLS Cup championships has Sporting KC won is it 0o one two or three well with all due respect to Greg rra and my friend Joey Lindstrom I'm not much of a soccer guy um uh but I'll say I'll say two question number five man on this day in history you're hotter than the weather outside right now brother on this day in history Jimmy this future Hall of Famer became the first in Major League Baseball to hit 200 home runs and steal 500 bases in his career is it Lou Brock Ricky Henderson Willie Mays Joe Morgan um one more time sorry you want the question you want the whole question no just a choices yeah Lou Brock Ricky Henderson Billy Mays Joe Morgan uh Jimmy I think I'm Ricky Henderson I think I'm a fan of this one Joe Morgan Joe Morgan wow almost got startled there jimy how did he how did he know how did he know you like Joe Morgan five on that like if You' have told me I it's a guy like I don't I'm like okay I don't know if KB likes Jo organ in the 7 he's a big red machine that man's a listener Jimmy that is a five for five ever that's e one let's go Jimmy how about that man great work I mean literally no handholding I don't even count number five as a handheld that's just smart listening great work Jimmy thank you I've always uh teach myself a loyal listener and loyal friend well there it is we love you for that let's go hurricanes on Saturday come on let's go the year for the you yeah I did feel bad for jimy goes if it's not this year when's it going to be like yeah you're skeptical on this hurricane that's been kind of the conversation around them for a number of years if not this running out of the tunnel baby now the other guys on the hot seat right Napier the Florida Coach Oh Billy Napier is the guy who could get fired in the middle of the Season without a doubt he's to me he's the leader in the clubhouse out of anyone in the power four power five it's Billy Napier no doubt big Domino start and they just have the most brutal schedule too aside from the SEC I mean they get Miami and uh let's see who else Florida State I know Florida State just lost but you throw a central Florida I mean that is the only gimme they have is Samford like literally every other game is going to be a good game Jimmy great work five for five on the pop quiz here yeah good job all right let's take a break we'll come back final thoughts as 4:00 Colts Cuts we'll give you uh our final thoughts and we'll do it next year on this Tuesday 935 1075 The Fan e e e e e e e e e NFL roster cut day four o'clock cuts are due mentioned earlier you know part of this day that I enjoy is not the right word but you do see some names you've kind of forgotten about we brought up Mike stra got cut by the Panthers nahe Hines coming back from that horrific jet ski accident he's going to still be with the Browns but on that football injury list as he continues to rehab I was surprised to see the Cowboys just cut Payton Hender shot yeah I saw that sh West IU product there I thought he had some nice moments for the Cowboys uh early on so again that's part of what this day is all about and we'll continue to monitor things and certainly uh probably gota wait till John show to get the actual live reaction to it but we'll get official word on Sam Ellinger and Jason bean and gelani woods how many draft picks do the Colts cut are there any surprises anywhere and then we'll hear from Chris Ballard coming up tomorrow afternoon yeah you know we've had conversations about Sam minger about the running backs you know are they going to keep you know uh 10 guys on that defense offensive line whatever it may be one other thing I wanted to just mention we talked a lot about this yesterday KB and that is you know do they go out and uh you know do they go out whether it's in free agents here you know obviously on the waiver wire and and get one of these safeties and or cornerback that will be now on the market and I go back to you know Ballard believes in the young guys he believes in his drafting he didn't dip into free agency when he had the money for whatever reason he or Jim M they haven't done that for all of these weeks and months that we've been talking about it so I guess I feel like they won't do that if they haven't done that but that's something to watch I think something to watch is when they've gone waiver claim they've gone with guys that were draft picks three months ago who have been cut who they lik during the draft process sure like that's kind of the route they've gone Isaiah L last year air speed a couple years ago like that's kind of where they go of hey we would have taken that dude in the sixth round but he was P you know he was taking what five spots before we were getting ready to draft so they've kind of gone that path not as much of the hey here's the four or fiveyear veteran name that a lot of people know that have proven themselves in the NFL but again in my opinion DB heavy is where they need to go the waiver claim but to your point I'll believe it when I see it yeah we don't believe there's going to I mean if they if they have two you'd pass out wouldn't you well let me walk outside revive cuz I might just do that today honestly man everyone stay warm it's going to be what 95 96 oh yeah stay cool I guess you'll be warm man 96 degrees what are we going to do enjoy a little time off uh we'll do James Boyd in for me tomorrow everyone have a fantastic Tuesday jmv at 3 Jake and Jimmy at noon have a good afternoon
