KANSAS CITY CHIEFS CUT LA'MICAL PERINE: MORE MOVES COMING? Chiefs News Today

Intro in a damaging and frankly franchise altering move the Kansas City Chiefs have cut ties with running back L Michel perine okay so maybe that's not exactly uh the headline for this move but I did want to take this move as an opportunity as I knock my desk around and shake the camera excessively giving people uh seasickness I did want to take this move as an opportunity to sort of preview some the things that we might see this LaMical Perine this offseason heading into OTAs very soon here and what we might be looking at as a bit of an offseason strategy not just this year but as Brett Vach does have the most job security of any general manager in the NFL what we might see as a bit of a strategy moving forward L Michel peryan the young running back had was 5'1 216 pounds and this move might be a bit of a surprise because in a largely untested running back room for the Kansas City Chiefs pery did play 59 snaps last year and accumulated on just 59 snaps 22 carries 22 carries for 77 yards certainly L Michel perine is a functional NFL running back we don't know the same about ammani Bailey we don't know the same about Carson steel we don't know the same about Lewis Ree zamit um and I I do not say these things to disparage those players we just have not seen them on an NFL field we have seen L Michel Pine in the NFL and no he's capable he's competent he's a guy who can hang in an NFL locker room this leaves by the way on the 90 man roster for the Kansas City Chiefs ammani Bailey Clyde Edwards elair Hassan Hall keante Ingram obviously Isaiah Pacho daic Prince Lewis Ree zamit and and zamit zamit and Carson steel these running backs all bring something a little bit different to the table one of the things that could be said about L Michel pery is that he did not bring anything to the table that was unique from anything all of these other running backs have he has perhaps more power than ammani Bailey perhaps more speed than Clyde Edwards elair uh but there's nothing really that he was bringing to the table that was all that mouthwatering as far as what it would mean to to take this running back room to the next level he is a very high floor player uh but I would suggest that he's a very low ceiling player at least judging on what we've seen on the field I think that physically he's got a pretty decent ceiling but we haven't really seen that play out on the field uh if we think back to last season Roster Building the Kansas City Chiefs carried 53 on the 50 the initial 53 man roster three running backs just three running backs on that initial 53-man roster Isaiah beo Clyde Edwards elair and uh Jerick McKinnon so when we zoom out a little bit and we start looking at other things while they did only Carry Three running backs they also carried zero fullbacks for the first time in the Andy re era something that I imagine we're going to continue to see but we might see hybrid type players the Blake Bell type tight ends I think we have one of those in this group of undrafted rookie free agents as well so that's someone to look take a bayor cup out of Texas Tech but the Chiefs also last season started the year with three tight ends on the roster Travis Kelce Noah gray and the aforementioned Blake Bell so where were all the initial 53-man roster last year for the Kansas City Chiefs had an even split of 25 offensive players 25 defensive players and obviously the Three Special Teams Aces um so where was the bulk of this offensive unit well it was at wide receiver with seven players and offensive line with 10 players uh it is uh yet to be seen what will be the 53 man splits for the um position groups this year but I I don't imagine it's going to be particularly different from last season the Chiefs do have a an awfully High number of wide receivers with potential but we have seen this off season that Brett vich seems to be if I could use this term and I hope that it um translates well is cutting the crap and I don't mean the garbage I mean when if you tell your children or your boss tells you cut the crap that means quit messing around a lot of what that's going to mean at the NFL level with roster building is potential is just potential you can spit in one hand and potential in the other and see which one fills up first Brett V seems to be on a bit of a tear for disregarding potential tell me what you have done that seems to be a bit of the tenor lately not completely but a bit of the tenor lately certainly when you look at Xavier worthy someone like that we're looking at just potential because Xavier worthy while I have and will justify the pick has the potential to get completely shut down at the NFL level there were other wide receivers who have proven on the field more than Xavier worthy but Xavier Worthy's potential was worth the pick now moving forward what does does this mean this is sort of the discussion why More Moves Coming I wanted to make this video about uh L Michel peryan getting cut I don't think I'm going to cover every player that gets cut oneon-one one for one one video for one cut but this does open a spot on the 90 man roster for the Kansas City Chiefs and we have not seen a corollary move yet for this I think also by the way we are likely to see many more moves even before training camp starts we have seen Brett V make move after move after move after move so far this pre-season he seems to understand the weight of the moment and what it would mean for the Kansas City Chiefs to actually win a third consecutive Super Bowl and I've said look he's got his entire tenure to think about but he seems to be wanting to win this he's willing to sell out a little bit of the future in order to have some win now type moves positions that would not surprise me if the Kansas City Chiefs were to pluck someone off the streets are a couple of the obvious ones and maybe a couple of the non-obvious ones the obvious ones I think would be wide receiver and defensive tackle the Kansas City Chiefs have a need at possibly a need at both of these positions we don't know what is to become of Rashi rice this season if both incidents that are weighing on his future come to fruition with suspensions from the NFL I'm not going to take it off the table that we might not see Rashid rice in the 2024 season I think that's just I think that is just the potentiality of what the Kansas City Chiefs would receive from the NFL we've seen the punishment that is their schedule a stretch where they are playing three NFL games in about 10 days something like that isn't that right absolutely Wild Nothing tells me that the NFL is trying to set up the Kansas City Chiefs to fail this season quite like that starting the NFL season with two of your hardest hitting opponents in the first two weeks guys you can't tell me that the NFL doesn't want some drama on the chief's name this season the other positions that might not be so obvious are offensive tackle and cornerback two of the Kansas City Chiefs offensive tackles a weak position for the Kansas City Chiefs were just arrested in the very same car I think it was the same car I imagine it was the same car um for possessions so we will we I mean days without incident right what are we looking at here in Kansas City um so it would not surprise me if offensive tackle is one of the positions that the Kansas City Chiefs just pick up another name for another one would be cornerback and I'm going to get to I know I know but I'm going to get back to this in a moment so here's an interesting thing to think about I say the Kansas City Chiefs are Kansas City Chiefs Sell Out pulling out all of the stops I say that the Kansas City Chiefs are willing to sell out a little bit of the future in order for making a third consecutive Super Bowl for bringing home a third consecutive ring but here's something interesting with Brett V we we talk about this and how he sold out a little bit and and is doing it seems everything in his power in order to bring home a third consecutive Super Bowl but guys in this upcoming draft the 2025 draft the lerus sne trade has um shored a third round pick an additional third round pick for the Kansas City Chiefs which they did not trade last draft everyone thought that that third round pick was going to be thrown in as sweetener for the Kansas City Chiefs to move up and take one of these names at wide receiver they did not end up doing that it seems they may have tried to do that to move up and take the offensive tackle uh airius Mims out of Geor something which would have been just too good too good would have touched my heart too much but they did not they did not get that trade done so they have an extra third round pick for the upcoming draft last offseason last preseason at the conclusion of the preseason the three preseason games the Kansas City Chiefs traded wide receiver Amir Smith maret to the Carolina Panthers now I do not know and was not able to find all of the terms to that deal however I believe that that so it was the trade was contingent upon Amir Smith maret playing a certain amount of snaps or staying on the team whatever it was uh and in order or or in in return for that the Kansas City Chiefs would receive the Carolina Panthers 7th round pick and the Kansas City Chiefs would give the Carolina Panthers their seventh round pick meaning that the Kansas City Chiefs in all likelihood would be moving up about 20 spots in the seventh round or so if we're looking at recent draft Trends possibly as much as 31 spots in the seventh round they would be moving up but and and that does not sound like a whole lot you're giving a wide receiver and your seventh round pick in order to to attain another team's seventh round pick but it was a wide receiver that you were not going to retain anyway you were going to have to cut Amir Smith maret because you weren't going to carry eight wide receivers so you just make this low stakes trade deep into the future leveraging Brett V's job security leveraging the fact that Brett V knows he's going to be around to make that 2025 seventh round pick so why not go ahead and leverage out into the future um and here's something else to think about the Kansas City Chiefs and Brett V traded yir Durant offensive tackle ended up being an offensive guard for a seventh round pick that seventh round pick ended up being Jaylen Watson Jaylen Watson is already single-handedly won a pair of games at the NFL level the Kansas City Chiefs traded wide receiver Tyreek Hill who the draft hall for Tyreek Hill ended up cementing a dynasty right previous trades under Brett Vach the Kansas City Chiefs have traded away offensive tackle Martinez rankins offensive tackle Isaiah Battle offensive lineman SL offensive tackle cam Irving offensive guard with potential to play offensive tackle lauron du tardif they have traded away cornerback Marcus Peters quarterback lerus Sneed cornerback Mike Hughes and cornerback uh Mark Fields so the Kansas City Chiefs are trading away High leverage positions like offensive tackle and cornerback normally in exchange for picks Brad Fe very good at the NFL draft so when we take this into account it is in my opinion fairly likely that the Kansas City Chiefs sign either a wide receiver because they kind of might need one sign a defensive tackle because they kind of might need one sign an offensive tackle maybe because they kind of need one but also there is always a market for offensive linemen that can play in the NFL and if you just pluck a name off the streets and end up converting him into draft picks that is an absolute win for your franchise or that they sign a cornerback off the street now here's the thing with a cornerback a cornerback depending on the name obviously there's a couple out there that might be able to start next to um Trent McDuffy but a quarterback is unlikely a quarterback just off the streets is unlikely to climb very high on the Chiefs depth chart because the Kansas City Chiefs have done very well for themselves drafting cornerbacks however what this does is if you can shine him up in the preseason maybe you can get a conditional seventh round pick out of trading him or if you know he can play and he can be the bottom of the roster guy for your football team you can trade one of the other pieces Joshua Williams is absolutely an NFL quarterback Jaylen Watson absolutely an NFL quarterback Nick Jones definitely showed some promise as a rookie Naz Johnson showed some promise before going down last season Trent McDuffy in my opinion is Untouchable but we have all of these names that could net draft draft uh picks for the Kansas City Chiefs either in the 2025 draft or moving forward so am I making an entire 15minute video because L Michael P Ryan is cut no yes no but I think that there are all sorts of ways that the Kansas City Chiefs could move and shift and maneuver this uh roster in order to maybe get some sweetener for the future and opening up a spot on the 90 man roster is the beginning of course of that that is all I have for this video if you like or
