e e e e e e e the motion have a bunch formation to one side whether it's trips or just attack in the enemy's offense one there was no play action CU they never ran the ball and two there was no there was no scheme to get Jan off the line of scrimmage when you get Jan in space he's really freaking good but as defens has learned more about jamming him putting him in press making it hard for him to get to space he struggled and then last year you add these drops which really seemed weird to me because he had Elite hands coming out of college add all that up it looks different man things change not always good I'm not saying they did well on the trade it does appear though that's all they could do I'm going to read specifically what Florio wrote to try to calm some folks down about what they determined to be a report big difference between a report and a theory good God it's only 10:42 and I'm yelling e e e e e e e e e e e e the heavy metal Chris just told me some news that the podcast is messed up today so I gotta come in from break faster and not enjoy the music so much Chris I have one piece of advice for you tell DJ Landini to stop playing the bangers all right it's it is a Scotty V reel Friday lill's Vibes Friday playlist is Elite so you know it's fantastic music uh pure Vibes it's the best music it's fantastic music um gotta wish a bunch of people uh that was my trump impression by the way which is God awful I've been told um got to wish some people a happy birthday Sunny jurgensen's birthday 90 years old what a legend that dude is Danny ruer I believe 27 years old also a legend happy birthday to both those fellas um people are mad at me I all I'm telling you is this roster is not built to seriously contend this year maybe if if Jaden is lightning in a bottle right away and you get a CJ shroud like season all anybody remembers is that Houston got to the divisional round of the playoffs last year nobody remembers that they were eight and8 going into week 18 and if Gardner muu doesn't throw a swing pass into the end zone short that Houston misses the playoffs entirely like people just remember what they want and they're like well Houston did it last year it might happen I'm not ruling it out but they had the absolute dead last defense in the NFL last year and I'm arguing with some dude that thinks now they're goingon to be top 10 they could improve significantly they could double their defensive numbers they could double them and they'd be exactly ranked half in the league so I just I I think we got to like try to remember what Peter you know during the pre-draft cycle one thing I'd like to do is try to freeze your brain how you remembered the end of college football particular particularly with like Elite top 10 draftable type players try to freeze your brain to what you remember at the end of the college football season because what happens between whatever that is January 5th let's call it and late April is all the other stuff the combine the rumors the reports all that stuff none of that matters because eventually they're going to draft based on what they saw in the football field so if we can for all the excitement all the new optimism let's remember last year they were 4 and 13 with the worst defense in the NFL let's just try to remember that and that's why I don't know Jaden calling from Ohio I don't know if this is which Jaden it is what up Jaden hey guys how's it going good dude how are you doing good doing good so yeah I mean the trade I think is confusing um and different if you have a rookie quarterback you're taking one of his weapons away from we can all agree a bottom 10 receiving core so now we're one injury away from dami Brown being our number one and Luke McCaffrey being our number two I get the body language stuff maybe but if you look at rookies that have had back-to-back 500 yard seasons everyone loves the Packers receiving core they don't have a guy that's done it we have a guy that we have three years left on his contract that is tied Garrett Wilson for touchdowns his rookie year had back-to-back 500 yard seasons with Taylor hinei and Sam Hal you give up on them and what tells you more we trade him to a division rival if you're doing business with anybody in any business that's really good at what they do and they're willing to take what you have like hoe Roseman look and if you watch I I I'm not saying every show is right but every other show you watch that isn't really have has any bias they're like what how we just got Jan and a third or whatever Jan and a fifth I'm the fact the fact that they got that is is pretty telling I think of a number of factors I don't necessarily how has a GM is is how we ATT three GM do we agree on that he knows what he's doing probably yeah I mean that roster continues to be loaded exactly so if someone I'm just gonna like again I'm a Skins fan through and through but I have I live in Ohio my friends are all Browns and Bengals fans I'm getting text like what are you guys doing like unless we get an ijy away number hold on I'm going have to put you on hold if you won't stop talking can I talk now yeah I think you've got to understand that they are viewing this long term and that they did not view Jan as a long-term part of their puzzle and that they got a third rounder for next year and I understand that that is not fun for this season and that your friends that are Bengals fans are going to text you like damn you just gave away Johan doson you're not wrong it it they clearly to me took an L on this trade because they wanted to move on from the player and that is part of their long-term vision and we're reacting to it in the immediacy we're reacting to it in the moment when they have a much wider view on this thing and I get that like looking at the looking at this trade and then they play Tampa in 10 or whatever that would be two weeks sucks like are they better to go against the Bucks week one after this trade No period but they're looking at what are we going to be in three years he three why give up so early thank for the you're giving up on your future too I that's not how they view it I like they if you think they're wrong you're entitled to that but if if you think these are the right guys to build for the Long Haul Then This Is How They view it I I'm not I'm not on that what's that my point is we don't know if they're right they're just giving up on a first round pick that's had backto back 500 yard seasons and what 14 touchdowns you don't know if you don't know if they're wrong and they're clearly trying to build the team they want and they don't view him as a part of it I gotta run lfi is gonna kill me um everybody on hold stay there I do want to play this kingsberry audio but clearly there's a lot to discuss with Johan doson nobody go anywhere e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e when I walk in the club all eyes on me all right when you hear this song we try to be responsible on the B Mitch Finley program I I really do anyway I figure I'm a fairly responsible fella um happy birthday to Susan Frank had a fun party last night um Brian and his wife Monica were there I left early lfi in in an effort of being responsible um that's so unlike you even early the guesses for when I would leave somebody had the audacity to say I would leave a party that started at 700 and was supposed to go to 11: by 8:30 I thought that was downright rude I didn't leave till 8:47 lfi um but it was a very nice night also shout out to Chuck Bell I did uh the NBC 4 Morning Show this morning I do that during the football season and I was on after the weather and Chuck Bell I didn't realize this today is the anniversary of the DC earthquake remember that joint it was uh I was in Roslin it was I was in one of those highrises in rosin it was felt like it was bumping up there um I eventually want to play this Cliff Kingsbury audio but I want to let you and Chris respond because we've been busy and we had Tech trouble with the stream stream's up and running now hope you're enjoying it um I do not think they did well in the Dotson trade maybe if he bowled out for them they could get more in a dotson trade if he didn't ball out they'd probably get less and they didn't get very much I am a believer in market economics and I don't think Adam Peters only called Philly about it about trading doson I'm guessing he called lots of places to see what there was out there and there wasn't that much out there that's to me pretty obvious to others it might not be I think doson can play I do not however understand Jimmy Lee Patterson and I wish Jeff was here cuz he knows the folks in the chat if they're if they're crazy or trolls or whatever I don't know that this dude is or isn't maybe he just thinks he knows me but Jimmy Lee Patterson accused me of playing water boy for the organization because I'm downplaying dodson's rookie year Jimmy here's what I can tell you I said on television radio and podcast that Dodson was really good as a rookie he had seven touchdowns on 35 catches he was in an offense Scott Turner's offense that designed designed ways to get him off the line of scrimmage they designed ways for him to get off the line of scrimmage without a big bump or Jam or press and then once he got into space he was really good in Eric bm's offense that largely dried up and a lot of Dotson's Red Zone prowess dried up not to mention all of a sudden last year he was dropping passes that I never would have expected when he came out of college because he was graded as arguably the best hands catcher in that draft class I am in no way downplaying doson showed serious flashes of being a stud wi out and maybe he'll get back to it but it doesn't matter because Adam Peters and Dan Quinn didn't want him here you can't look at the events of the last 24 hours and come to any other conclusion that the staff now did not want him uh lini with the this obviously happened yesterday during our program but now we've had 24 hours to kind of decompress what do you make of the trait uh well they didn't give very much for him and they I mean there's not really like another it's not like they had a a super loaded wide receiver room and they're like well we got to offload somebody so they clearly didn't think very much of them um that's really disappointing from the you know this guy was a first round pick a couple years ago and you managed to turn a first round pick into a third round pick that sucks um I am a little worried that they uh Adam Peters and Dan Quinn are doing this thing that kind of happens a lot in the NFL when new guys come in they just decide to just clear out all of the previous uh regimes guys that is true and a lot of times there are some players you know not everybody that you get rid of sucks completely you know you're you're you're taking uh Baths on some guys that maybe you shouldn't necessarily um I I don't think this is huge it's like I don't think they gave away like a future All Pro or even a pro bowler if that still means anything um but it's a little disappointing considering the state of the wide receiver room this is kind of interesting I hadn't looked at this in Jan's rookie year when he had that early success remember he had two touchdown catches week one then he injured his ham he missed I think five or six games four of his seven touchdown catches came when Carson Wentz was at quarterback sorry I had to sneeze um I think datson could play and and maybe they aren't maximizing what he can be they also want physical guys that will block down the field and I don't think anybody believes that that's necessarily dodson's game there's a lot of people on hold here um who's been on hold the longest Kell and W no tion in DC tion what up man hey what's going on JP how you doing man season a lot okay first off um we commanders fans we forgotten what it means to run a first class organization and what I mean by that is that you have to trust the process ever since uh Harris took over and then we got Peters and then we got DQ they've had same message they've been on point and they've been pushing it through what they want from their guys is for them to play physical and play fast that's not Jan's game instead of leaving something in the locker room that become Mal content trade for it um everybody's crapping on the receivers but I didn't look at the receiver competition like that I looked at the receiver competition as others stepping up and pushing Jan out um we have a first year rookie quarterback he has a new wide receiving core that he gets to grow with that's the perfect scenario situation we got to stop expecting that we're going to win all the time as soon as uh everybody comes in we you're used to shiny the shiny uh quickpit instead of becoming a um a dominant team a uh a Powerhouse team and that's what it seems like this organization is building right now they lived up to their word every every ever since they got here so why are we tripping and freaking out right now thank you buddy it's a good call it's a longterm thing Peters told you that the day he was introduced and everybody was cool with it and now it's oh my God you got rid of Dotson you suck do something else um Tim is in College Park what up Timmy what's up JP how you doing man I'm all right how are you good man good listen uh just to kind of piggyback on what the last caller was saying you know look at the Texans right like we're trying to win and Jan Dodson even though he's not Julio Jones or Rody white he's a talented receiver which is why he was at the top of the draft board for uh receivers in his class and to take him away from a rookie quarterback it's like you we talk about he's not blocking down the field hard he's a receiver and to you talked about uh the last offensive coordinator who found a way to get him press then then that's what Cliff kingberry has to figure out like at at the end of the day you need talent to win Dan Quinn had Rody white and Julio Jones Adam Peters had Brandon iuk uh Christian mcaffrey Deo Samuel George KD you need talent to win I agree but you know how long it took to put together auk KD mcaffrey to get all of that Talent put together that took time this is what they're trying to do now I I agree with you about that but the 49ers have always had Talent they've always been competing for a Super Bowl for the past five or six years uh they just at the end of the day I think Adam Peters is trying to do too much like you're you're you need to understand that you need talent in order to win and you don't have to try to be Bill bellich get the talent on your team coach him up and if it doesn't work out move on but at this point blocking down the field is the last thing I'm worried about for my wide receiver all right man it I that's a fair Viewpoint thank you for the call uh all right Dave has been on hold a while Dave what up man hey JB how you doing all right how are you weather's good and everything good I got two things JP remember in the in the game against the Jets they kept Jan on the field quite a while yeah man I I tweeted out that he caught a pass from Jeff Driscoll with about three minutes remaining in the first half and that stood out to me and everybody got mad at me for tweeting that out hey why do that matter bro well they just traded him perhaps I was on to something anyway and and and also I think Eric benemy uh offensive coordinator stuff kind of hurt Jan I agree with you great call Dave thanks pal but but you know one but you know um JP yes Adam pet in him didn't draft him and so they ain't got no ties with Jan Dave and VA nothing but facts thank you pal appreciate you listening okay yes sir um shout out to heavy metal Chris this dude's name is Derek from the chat but he wrote Derek from the Chad like the country in Africa so I appreciate that what up Derek JP what's going on man how you doing we chilling how are you I'm good I'm good I'm really happy about this trade JP I'm happy I'm happy because I I feel like we flipped it for something great we got ourselves a kicker and that this guy might win a some games Jan catching one reception and not blocking could would have lost to some games this kicker hitting like 50 plus yards you know we lose games every year because we can't kick field goals it happens to listen man every year I don't think I don't think Jan loses Us games I I I I I think we got not saying he loses Us games my bad I'm not trying to say that I'm not here for Jan's slander it didn't go right here clearly the NFL Marketplace doesn't hold him to the first round pick he was a couple years ago but like I I'm not here for Jan slander how about that okay no no I'm not and I'm not trying to slander Jan either he's a good player he's a standup dude like every time he does interviews he's a good guy it's just that the offense doesn't fit for him that we're trying to build and that's cool we got a good trade for him I think we got value in the third round we could get a DB we can get a good offensive lineman with that third rounder and the seventh and two seventh we flip the seventh for the kicker honestly JP I don't see it as a loss for IDE if he goes over and has success in Philly then you know there's going to be some toxic fans that are going to do what they do but you know like at at the end of the day we have a young team and we're just trying to put good pieces in front of our star that's JD so that's going to be why I receive a blocking in a in a heavy run offense you know appreciate you buddy I like how Derek LED that off too when he's like man I love this trade they needed a kicker nobody's talking about kicker gate once you trade away jand um Rico is in Fairfax what up Rico hey what's going on JP I'm just calling him God to so I don't like the trade because year one he was good he show potential year two he declin it third year give him a chance I understand the the culture you're trying to bring but just give him a chance ain't getting nothing in return about it he's still in a rookie contract just give him a chance that's all I feel about it also one one more thing can y'all bring doc back for at least once a month or something just to he his take on the season doc Walker yes sir uh we can't afford his fee but I I'll ask if he'll do some pro bono okay appreciate thanks buddy um that's Rico shout out to Rico um I wish Jeff was here because I feel like he'd be the perfect gauge but lanfield I'm going to have to ask you to channel your inner Jeff okay which is tricky method acting please what level of Ashburn syndrome is it that folks are like damn you gave up this weapon with a Young quarterback when Jan last year was Top 10 in the NFL in drops and had I think he had 40 I want to pull the exact number because I don't want to be wrong I I believe it was 53 catches on 89 targets something like that 49 catches on 83 targets what level of Ashburn syndrome is it that like damn you gave up on that dude see the thing about Ashburn syndrome is I'm like barely Afflicted over here so I have a hard time deciding saying that folks are suffering from it or I'm actually having a hard time deciding if it's extreme Ashburn syndrome um to think that Johan doson would uh could you know turn it around and like be a good NFL receiver or if it's actually what extreme Ashburn syndrome would be to just get on like the uh Martavis Bryant hype train and say Jan was terrible there's a lot of aspirin syndrome can afflict many in many different ways it it was like you know Co they're like we don't know the symptoms are inconsistent that's what as syndrome is short yeah uh man long aspirin syndrome that's what the L's like Kell is in Waldorf what up Kell how you doing JP thanks for taking my call thank you for calling thank you for listening what you think of the trade um I like the TR trade I like the trade because I feel like Ron drafted Jan I think Ron drafted Jan too early he overvalued him in the draft so I feel like the guys are coming in and they're looking they have no ties to anybody they're looking for guys that's going to compete was going to work hard and they traded and they got what they could get for him at the time the best value I mean I don't understand why everybody's acting like we're giving away all pro not not to say Jan's a bad player because I like Jan while he was here but like you said he had some big drops last year um and for him to come in the camp and feel like he doesn't have to compete from what people were saying and you know I don't know how true it is I'm not out there but from what people were saying that you know for him to feel like he doesn't have to compete or he's P pouting about competing for a new regime is crazy to me so again nobody's looking at the fact that I feel like Ron the last the the last three first round picks Ron made he overvalued and overdrafted all three of those guys to me so I I like the trade I think it's a great trade think we have a good front office and I trust them thanks buddy um welcome that's my guy Kell right there from waldor for the understandable theory of why give up now he can still play maybe the trade value goes higher it can also go lower like there are two sides to every coin jup is on the line jup hit me what' you think hey what's going on JP what what's wrong with this fan base man I'm I'm G start it off with this let's think about all those Super Bowl winning Patriots team outside of Edelman off the top of your head can you name any other receivers off those Super Bowl winning teams and two and on top of that to what that other understand they lost the Super Bowl but they did have Randy Moss who broke every conceivable record that season true but they didn't win though and you got to compare and same same toking goes for the guy that's talk the 49 I they were 17 and0 before they lost in the Super Bowl but I hear you I hear you right and then they compare to 49ers if you compareed the 49ers receiving CP on paper to the Kansas City Chiefs you would feel that they have a better receiving core so with all that being said like we've been crying for change we got the change it's going to take time let's just see what's going to happen just take your time everybody relax let's see what's happen that's all I got to say juk when you're a when you're a young man and you finally get a chance to to lay down with a woman do you take your time h no I think that's what's going on folks are just so damn fired up nobody wants to take their damn time thank you for the call that's true no problem uh Craig hoffen next if you're on hold stay there I'll take calls all damn day I'm here by myself e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e deal or a shout out hook your boy Sam up I I'm not in charge of wide receiver deals but Sam happy birthday so now it is Sam's birthday Sunny jurgenson birthday and Danny ruer ruer rudiger how do you say it Ru who Danny rouer's birthday uh this is cool I was unaware of this but Hoffman is now in the Stream um I'm guessing I still have to pull him up on the X so I'm going to do that what up Hof how you doing buddy what's up yeah know this is a wacky bit because we were going to do a comrex but I guess we got some tech stuff going on so I'm going to be in the Stream for people watching on YouTube but I still sound like I'm on the phone cool um you were always one step ahead of the tech whatever it is ass off um dude so I was listening to your show driving home yesterday and um you had a really good point about people screaming about the inivision trade because the timelines for these teams are very different can do do you mind I I just thought it was smart and I like smart commentary um Craig Hoffman from the Craig Hoffman show joining us right now on the fan you can follow him at Craig Hoffman um and listen to his program at four o'clock I think yes that correct four o'clock yeah you leave and then time becomes a vacuum but you do listen to the show and text Anthony and I which I very much appreciate no so the point is basically this if you are looking at um if you're looking at the time of when the commanders want to compete we realistically think it's going to be two to three years from now like even if if uh Jaden goes out and has a Stroud s year okay next year you make a bunch of moves and you do what they did with digs and you try to bring people in and next year you're trying to compete well John Dawson's got two years left on his contract and they've already paid Devonte Smith they've already paid AJ Brown and so the chance is that three years from now when more likely you'll be competitive and you're three of Jaden Daniels that that Johan Dawson's still an eagle like you're not even really competing with them and I think to even add on to that JP I didn't talk about this as much yesterday but it's something I'm definitely going to bring up today and so you're listeners and you get a preview of this first Dan Quinn's been competing against Johan doson for two years when he was the d-coordinator in Dallas and he's watched Mike sander still play against him every single day you think if they were that scared with all due respect to Jian who I think will be better in Philadelphia he suits a little bit more of what they do than he than what they were asking him to do here but if they were that scared of Jan doson you think think they would have traded him in division like no they they he's not going to be the player that I think we hoped he became they realize that they don't have the emotional attachment to him and so they did what they thought was best for the football team and by the way that thing happens to be just fine with the timeline for when they want to compete but and there's like this theory that it like they took less to send him to Philly I I am confident I can guarantee you Adam Peters called a whole bunch of teams he didn't just call like Howie man do I have a deal for you what's it going to take for me to get you in a car today like the market is the market and and and I think folks are reluctant to understand that or or embrace it and I get that maybe Jian balls out this year and and if you want to trade him there's more value at the deadline or or he balls out this year and you just want to keep them but it's entirely possible the negative trajectory continues and then there's even less value down the stretch or even less value next off seon it's it's just crazy to me that we all Hammer Rivera for the draft picks and the frankly the player evaluations throughout his tenure and now that they've traded away Dotson it's like hell no that guy was a first rounder what are you thinking you know what I mean right no 100 perc it's those two thoughts cannot coexist uh in in Perfect Harmony in a in a sane uh thought train like this is not that you can't be like ah that guy I can't believe Rivera sucks because he picked Jan dson the first round how dare you trade first round pick Jan doson for a third rounder because you gave up a fifth and to your original Point JP like if all other things were equal if there were thirds you know the same exact deal third and two sths for a fifth and doson on the table from an AFC West team and an NFC East team you trade him to the AFC West you don't take the risk that the down to trade him to Denver or the Chargers especially a team that's probably going to be worse than Philly like if Philly's good this year this pick is going to be lower in the third round although they did just P you know take Luke mcaffrey the bottom of the third round who they hope is gonna replace Johan Dawson so that that's probably worth pointing out as well but yeah if literally all other things are equal then you absolutely try to trade him somewhere else but the chances that everything else was equal were not very good the chances that that they they were getting this deal from someone else were not good this is a kind of player that Philly takes a swing on and sometimes they're right they've had some success I mean the ultimate success with the distressed asset if you will is AJ Brown he was going the wrong way in Tennessee turned around he's been awesome All Pro level in Philadelphia but there's also been other guys that they've taken swings on that it hasn't worked but I I think that you have to keep your eyes on your own paper like I I talked to I don't know if you heard that me mention this on the show yesterday JP but I talked to Will Dawkins about this about the porzingis trade um and basically I was like are you like do you hear the the yells of like oh you handed Boston a title and he goes good good I want to be a good trade partner because I want good return for us like we have a long vision for what we're trying to do here and Adam Peters although the vision is not as long in the football game as it is in the basketball arena um but they have a long vision for what they want to do and they are concerned with getting the best routine for or the best return for them that works for what they are trying to build and what it does for the other side is only really relevant if you're ready to compete with them right now and they just like there's the 53 is gonna get named what Monday Tuesday whatever it is Tuesday there be 30 yeah 30 new names on it 30 they know the roster needed an overhaul they're not worried about competing on the level that Philly is worried about competing at right now right and I think people just get so excited and geeked up for one a new season but then you add Jaden and then how Jaden has looked and it's like yo F that we're we're playing to win right now and and Peters yo and the coaching staff if you ask Bobby Johnson or Ken Norton hell yeah they're playing a win right now coaches have to front a good front office is playing to win week one in Tampa but also in 2024 and to build a longterm playoff Contender um H you're going to be surprised by this maybe but there was something specifically I wanted to ask you about okay and people will probably hang up don't hang up I'm coming back to the phones in a minute nwsl just got rid of their draft completely right yes and they're going to like a European style format correct correct um why it's so there's a couple of things um and some of them are kind of like the moral compass of the league and I think it's a lot easier on like the most fundamental level if you're going to draft Caleb Williams one-1 overall in the NFL draft and is signing bonus is $25 million it's a lot more moral to treat that person like a commodity if you want to trade them okay well you know he's making $25 million the nwsl minimum salary has been you know it 10 years ago it was $122,000 it's now in the the 40s I believe and this new CBA that they've signed is going to rise it by 2030 to $80,000 like imagine on whatever most people's listening salary is if you could just be traded and uprooted and by the way when you graduated school you didn't have a choice where you got to move and start your life you just got assigned like there's that element there's also the fact that like they're competing in a global Marketplace like it's not the NFL that if you want to play professional football at the highest level the NFL is it right if you are I'll use a name that people have hopefully heard of Katarina marcario um the US Women's National team player um she's she's one of the when healthy one of the 10 best players in the world perhaps and a couple years ago she had a $500,000 a year offer from Chelsea or she could have signed like St in the US and and been drafted one overall by I think like Louisville and made 70k go to London she chose Chelsea yeah yeah she's playing in England having a blast making a half a million dollars a year and so if you're going to lose players it becomes a competitive balance issue of if you want to be the best league in the world you better have a way to keep players and so those are the the big factors but I do think it's a fun discussion of like what would it look like in the NFL in the NBA because I do think that like the fact that we just assign people where they go to work is kind of nuts and then we just treat them as Commodities and trade them around and you know then again we're as guilty as anything because in our business that's like what we talk about well well dude and you and I in the radio business are certainly just treated as Commodities so who the hell knows um I gotta run uh I am making my Washington Spirit debut this weekend very excited to come to the game on Sunday bringing my daughters um thank you Hof everybody tune in four o'clock appreciate it CG Hoffman give him a follow on Twitter at Craig Hoffman phone lines Pat Ray Joe Matt everybody that's on hold Ashburn Dave I'm coming to you next e e e e e e e e e B [ __ ] fley 10 67 the fan it is a Scotty VI Rebel Friday in about 10 minutes we're going to be joined by Steve palazolo that should be really cool uh right now though people been on hold a long time people want to talk Johan doson man some people are pissed some people are not Ashburn Dave what up dude what up JP hey uh I'm okay with the trade uh real quick as soon as it happened couple buddies of mine texted and said yeah he went to Philadelphia he'll be an all pro up there but you know that's that's the old way here but uh you know I trust this new regime they said it was going to be competition they let a guy a lot of guys play in that position it's preseason and they probably like what they see there and the production from him yeah he's a good player one two catches a game a drop he's not blocking downfield a lot of those long plays are 10 15 20 30 yard plays where guys break loose it's a receiver chipping somebody downfield or at least you know shadowing them pushing them away but if he's not going to work like that you know I trust their decision I wish we'd have gotten a little more and given a little less but the two seventh rounders I don't know the value there but somebody could stand up there but that third rounder could be a big bad left tackle next year or right tackle yeah some kind of lineman you can pick those up there but I trust it I appreciate you Ashburn Dave good to hear from you pal that's what CK the cluster Buster was like listen man third rounder is not nothing it's going to be a top 100 pick I mean yo if we're excited about Luke mcaffrey um I mean that's a third rounder I you know who was once a third rounder lville Terry McClaren I believe Fred Warner was a third rounder that Adam Peters took um who knows Yami Brown was also a third rounder The Tackle they hope can play for them as a third rounder Brandon Coleman uh Ray is in southeast and wants to know why everybody's tripping what right JP what's up with you man uh I'm chilling dude I'm very hungry and because it's just me and Lille we have no means to get food Chris is kind of running around is Chris with us today or is he doing Tech stuff he's here a person I didn't know if you were working with us today in Jeff's spot or if you were doing all sorts of tech stuff because we got a lot of tech stuff sorry Ray this is very important to figure out I am working with you guys in Jeff's spot today but there is a ton of tech stuff so helping with that as well okay thank you Chris now that we cleared that up Ray why is everybody tripping n JP you good man no I don't know why they tripping man I don't understand man everybody uh everybody believe in AP and I'm a I'm I believe in AP I I've been a [ __ ] fans since forever I witness two Super Bowls so everybody believe in AP just keep believing AP I don't understand why the everybody tripping I like doson too but if if they seen the reason to let him go then trust the reason let him go I don't know where everybody up uper arm for I don't understand um I think that's a fair I think that's a fair response right honestly like I get that people think maybe they didn't get enough I'm not if if he gets if Jan Ball's out the the Ops of this trade are going to be significant but right now the only theory that I think is completely asinine is that like oh they did get enough they got everything they could you the market the market is the market man thank you Ray I appreciate you buddy um Richard in Springfield Richard you there yeah I'm here JP how are you I'm good pal how are you I'm doing good I tell you why I like this trade yeah I like it from the way it was handled it's like a real competent Professional Management perspective and most importantly I think we did right by the young man we didn't send him to an NFL clown show he gets to play with Jaylen Herz he gets to play with experienced Pros in a winning culture and he gets to play for a team that's got a really good shot at the NFC Championship Game and uh you know it's a chance for him to perform do is exactly what he says he's capable of and if he will he'll get paid and from the Commander's perspective you know for whatever reason the coaching Brain Trust said pass and Peters went into action didn't waste time he didn't like wait till the uh cut down and release the kid he got a reasonable fast deal done and it reinforces to the rest of the players that this organization is serious about winning and willing to make changes as necessary and almost at any moment so uh he did a good day good deal for him he did a good Peters did a good job for the commanders and for me the days of SNY ball are permanently over um I appreciate that Richard and it's interesting because one of the biggest knocks on Dan Snyder was that he viewed everything as a zero some game that somebody won and somebody lost and he always had to win now we know that that wasn't the case but that was his mindset it's it's it's valuable if doson is good in Philly because then Philly is getting something out of this trade too now it sucks because we all hate Philly and it's the most stabby city in America but like that is how trades are supposed to work uh Matt Stafford is on the line hello Matt hey uh I like this for everyone I love Jan but I like it for everybody and in a way it shows the confidence they have in Kingsbury's offense because it simplifies the read progression it takes the politics out of the re progressions and makes it easy for Jaden to just go ahead and take off with it and uh when you think about Kingsbury's Cardinals they might have had Hollywood Brown I don't remember him too many big names or a couple big names at once Andre Hopkins big one the only thing that uh I would say is maybe Jan didn't fit in the y or the Z or or where they wanted him to be but I do think he would have fil uh filled in pretty well for Terry say Terry were to get dinged up I think Jan would have been good to slide into that spot but um well last thing I'd say is uh Eric Nathan they mentioned on the junkies this morning um they said you know about danan nobody ever really had much uh good to say but really no one really ever had much good to say about Eric the enemy so you got to kind of factor that in as well when you're taking in consideration uh how people are behaving at the practices thank you bud think JP appreciate you pal I it is pretty remarkable if you look at last year's production to to Matt's point I mean just catches like was there an outcry an uproar of angst or aggression when they let Curtis Samuel walk in free agency and he sign with the bills um Curtis Samuel had 62 catches for 613 yards and four touchdowns last year uh they let Logan Thomas go Logan had six more catches and about the same amount of yards as Jan you know I I think you could argue they should have resigned Curtis um all right Lille I'm going try to do the right thing we got Steve palazolo joining us next if you're on hold we're just going to have phones going the whole damn day okay the whole damn day um Steve palazolo founder of Pro Football Focus just started his own new podcast dude knows ball let's ask him about the trade e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e B Mitch Finley 1067 the fan excited right now to get to the BET ql guest line welcome in our guest Mr Steve palaz um Pro Football Focus Fame started his own podcast checked the mic him and Sam Monson two good dudes uh doing it with the 33rd team Steve what up man thanks for joining us yeah thanks for having me appreciate it um so the you know obviously the conversation here in Washington centers around Jaden Daniels but the big news yesterday uh was this trade of Jan doson um as you look at this thing uh what did you make of the move yeah I mean I know the reports out of camper that he was you know Dawson was not necessarily uh you know getting opportunities or you know in favor with the new staff or whatever it might be I I did think you know I still think scotson is a good player you know maybe not where he was drafted in the first round but you know showed flashes early on I thought he could fit as a as a slot receiver here I think uh you know for this season it puts a little more pressure obviously on dami Brown and zakus and uh maybe Luke mcaffrey as a rookie and it just it it puts I think challenges the depth at at wide receiver you know Terry McLaren of course being the the true number one and then trying to figure out those pieces around them so um again I thought doson would at least be good enough to you know be the contributor you know still still be looking for an upgrade still be dreaming of a Brandon IU coming in but I I was a little surprised by the trade but again it just uh moves everybody up a Peg and puts a little bit more pressure on the that next group of receivers it's going to be interesting I mean I watched dami Brown since I drafted him right I've watched him in practice I've watched him in preseason I've watched him in training camp I've watched him look good on the practice fields in Ashburn and then I've also watched that not translate to the field um when they play real games is there I mean I kind of look at Nico Collins as how much he exploded once they got CJ strad but Collins was at least somewhat productive you know like 450 yards is productive is there any real track record of a guy that has had really minimal production like we're talking 10 12 catches a season to then bust out to like a 40 catch 600 yard season uh I don't know up the top of my head I mean yeah like you can't think of one right here's what I'm intrigued by I mean just I mean not so much this is great for the commanders but um the the storyline of when you see a guy that has a couple years of development and you know not not as a starter you know as a backup and then he gets entrusted and and can he make that move or or is the coaching staff seeing something in dami brown that the previous regime did not um or are they going to use his skill set in a certain way obviously I think you know what he did at UNC and what he you know showed in the preseason his ability to be a downfield threat I think is intriguing you know to be a vertical threat I think it's a matter of that consistency though he's always been uh you know had that big play ability um the way he's been used is you know let's let's Chuck it deep to dami see if we can flip the field with him you know if he's if that's going to be his main role I think he can do it but again you can't just rely on that so it's intriguing from a hey let's see if year four of development uh you know after sitting as a backup can actually you know do him some good and and you know see if he can develop some of that consistency yeah it it it's gonna be really interesting to watch um what do you think of Jaden Daniels what from what the little bit we've seen so far and just kind of how you expected him to play based on a fantastic college career I think it's as advertised when you when you heard people talking around the league and when Jaden really made his rise up to number two on a lot of people's draft boards behind the behind Caleb Williams a lot of people said the same thing like oh you know he's he's a great Runner and he was outstanding at LSU but he wants to sit in the pocket make throws go through reads he's really balanced and athletic in the pocket I like to separate pocket athleticism from outside of the pocket athleticism and his pocket athleticism is fantastic and I think you saw you've seen a lot of that he looks very comfortable he's been accurate throwing the ball outside the numbers for the most part um the the thing I'm curious about with Daniels and of course with Cliff kingsburry you know Cliff hasn't attacked the middle of the field historically a ton but he also had Kyler Murray and so trying to figure out if that was a kylo thing if that's a an air raid thing because that's they had the pass to the tight end the last week but that was pretty much it as far as in between the numbers it's going to be intriguing to see how this offense evolves with but Daniels I always look for Comfort level from the rookies once they hit the field he looks very comfortable looks like he belongs and I think it's uh you know something to build upon heading into the regular season what do you think so one I mean you know how this world works like I think social media and fans kind of tend to overreact um it was actually pretty interesting Cliff got asked about this yesterday you know how much of his offense has he shown and he said not much um Jaden had 15 passes in the preseason right um yeah what do you think Cliff also explained that he is night and day different than what it was when he first came into the league with Kyler his offense his mindset all of this what do you think of the marriage between cliff and Jaden yeah I'm intrigued to see what that looks like from Cliff because it is it is easy for us to only know what we see which is okay here's here's what happened in Arizona here's what he did and we'll assume the same thing but we're all allowed to change and evolve and um I think the marriage with Daniels is is a is a good one because there there was also there was a point in Tyler Murray's time at Arizona when he was not used in the design Run game a ton as a you know as a runner and then they kind of flipped that switch and I forget how it was like 600 or 800 yards that KY Murray had one of those years and it was like oh we can we can lean into this KY maray can do this I mean Daniels obviously has that now he has to still have to work on sliding still have to work on not you know taking those big hits but I'm intrigued by that piece as well because even if you're going to be a pocket first quarterback win from the pocket first that that added to mention of the design running game what that does for play action and what that does to just keep the defense in a I'm interested to see what that looks like and interested to see how Cliff evolves I think people focus too much on well Terry McLaren's only lining up on the left and we don't use motion and we do this and that and even though I generally like the idea of moving guys around for mismatches and creating motion mismatches and advantages for the offense there have been offenses that have been good who don't need rely upon that you know Aaron Rogers offenses Through The Years a lot more static pton Manning's offense is back in the day very static it's not uh so so it doesn't always mean more success so I'm interested to see how that all looks but I think I think the fit for Kingsbury and Daniels uh is very good so far and I think it will continue to be yeah I I tend to agree with you and dude um we're talking with Steve palazolo here check out the check the mic podcast YouTube wherever you get your podcast give him a follow at Steve palazolo p a l a z z o l o with the underscore at the end um I also think you lose dots who showed real stuff as a rookie last year took a step back I don't know about the rest of this receiver room after Terry but I think Eckler has looked fantastic I think Zack Herz has looked fantastic and I think Brian Robinson is a heck of a player how can you maybe build a a offense that moves the ball well it's been brief but in three drives with Jaden Daniels at the helm in preseason they they had a scoring opportunity every time they scored a touchdown a field goal and missed a field goal in his three drives can you build an offense that moves the ball well maybe it's a top 10 top 12 yardage offense that isn't rant on chunk plays anymore I mean the the Chiefs have done it that's it sounds crazy to say the Chiefs been them the last couple years they're they're not flipping the field Patrick Mahomes had the second worst passer rating on 20 plus yard throws in the entire NFL last year like 37th out of 38 quarterbacks that's crazy I think it's possible and it's also trending with that's how defenses are playing right defenses are playing more two high shells which means they're they're keeping safety back and they're saying go ahead go ahead put put together a 10 or 12 Play drive and you know be patient you know show that you can take the underneath stuff um run the ball against a lighter box and pick up four or five and and be patient and don't force the ball down the field I think the NFL defenses are trending that way forcing offenses to live that life and then when they get it's kind of like an old school bellich defense bellich you know teams would move the ball between the 20s all the time and then he'd crack down in the red zone and it seems like a lot of NFL defenses you know for you know oversimplifying but are are saying the same thing like hey you know be patient take this take the short stuff and then we'll crack down in the red zone and you know Force three instead of seven so I think it is possible you know it takes that patience um but I also think with jayen Daniels being such a good deep ball thrower and you know probably the the best downfield throw that Terry Mclaren has had and you know dami Brown's downfield ability it'll be interesting to see Washington have that type of offense with with ER and Eckler you know working the underneath game and um you know the the running game that they'll have with Robinson and Eckler but I think they have a chance to have an explosive offense because of Daniel's ability to throw the ball down the field well dude I also wonder I mean not to go back to dami Brown but dami's best asset is his verticality and they haven't really had a quarterback to to test it you know what I mean um for sure and I I think it'd be pretty cool if it like maybe that's a reason while this will hit I I don't know um we'll see but I uh I did want to go kind of around the league with you while I've got you um what kind of te just overall with Washington do you think they have a chance at like a worst to first kind of Houston scenario here yeah I mean the only issue is the Cowboys and Eagles being in that division right you're know the Texans had the benefit of jaguars collapse last year and the Colts maybe not having Anthony Richardson the Washington does seem like the team again this is dependent on Jaden Daniels being as advertized you know to have that very you know surprise season and then when you look at from a team building effort a lot of their moves were were short-term moves you know bringing in Bobby Wagner and uh you know bringing in a whole bunch of veterans you're kind fill those gaps you know along the roster on both sides of the ball there there's there's this mix of hey we want to rebuild we need to build through the draft and I love what they did in the draft I don't think they forced needs in the draft they drafted a lot of the best players that weren't necessarily needs like Johnny Newton Mike Sandrail I love the way they did that so they had a longterm Vision in the draft a shortterm visione watch watching him every day he is a do yeah he is that like as soon as you draft I I predicted Jim Harbaugh was absolutely GNA draft him because I'm like he has to be Jim Harbaugh's favorite player right he has to be but he'll be every fan favorite player he's every Michigan fan favorite player he just flies around the field one of those you know nickel players that um that just does a lot right and brings that energy to the defense so I like the that Washington had right longterm in the draft a lot of picks you know stuck to their guns as far as their board line at least it seemed like that um but then the Bobby Wagers of the world and Jeremy chin of the world and some of those you know let's uh let's make sure we're putting out a a good group of starters here as well so that's what I think if that meshes washingt and then of course jayen Daniels hits the ground running all of a sudden I think you're surprising some teams it'll be tough to unless the Eagles are in collapse mode again as they were last year I think it'll be tough to Leap Frog the the Eagles or the Cowboys but I definitely think Washington can do some damage yeah I mean if things break right now that you got you know seven playoff teams it's almost the league is almost designed so everybody has a chance at it in in a way um if you uh if you kind of continue to zoom out phly and Dallas look like the class of the NFC East but how about this this is a a interesting way to look at it if you had to predict today and it's impossible to predict on August 23rd your AFC title game and NFC title game who are kind of those teams you think get all to the final four if you will I'm G to go out on a limb and say the Chiefs make it to the AFC title game this year right just uh really like the way they're looking this preseason um you know somebody's got to Def thrill the Chiefs I'm I'm kind of in on the Bengals this year because I I think we kind of forget how good Joe Burrow's been when he's healthy I'll assume I'll assume health for him um but it's it's another loaded AFC you know the bills the Ravens uh the whole AFC North is pretty strong I'll say Bengals Chiefs in the NF in the AFC I I love where the lions are I don't think the lions are going to have a setback this year I think they did a really nice job this off season continuing to get better you know Shoring up their defensive line attacking the secondary that had some issues last year so I'll say lions and I think the Eagles do bounce back I I I've never seen a team collapse the way they did last year they looked like the best team in the NFL through 10 or 11 weeks and then literally one of the worst teams in the NFL after that point including the playoff game where they got destroyed right I've never seen anything like it they're changing defensive coordinators changing play callers there's inner turmoil and good players look like they age 10 years in a matter of weeks I'm going to assume that's not going to happen this year and that their coordinator changes do help them so I'll say Eagles lions and then Bengals Chiefs as far as the title games go um interesting you can make the case for all those teams right you did not include Sam Fran and Sam Fran has been a freight train they got a lot going on out there you got Trent holding out or in whatever that's situation is mcaffrey with this calf string the IU drama um what do you make of the ners yeah I may have just forgotten them as I'm listing those teams but yeah look they have they have first world problems they're they're too good I mean they literally have a top two tight end the best running back the best fullback a top five receiver the best wide receiver running back hybrid in Debo Samuel top five Edge best best left tackle they have the best of everything or top five everything and so I think they'll still good uh Kyle Shanahan is is still an offensive play calling cheat code I know the the questions in the playoffs and in crunch time and everything but Shanahan has you know over a decade of experience elevating offenses and I'll tell you what I'm intrigued by Brock cie in year three you know I'm trying to I always try to balance things you know last year when he has 120 passer rating or whatever it was it's like whoa whoa whoa he's not that good but because of all the Playmakers and everything but he's also not just a system quarterback he's also taking sh of hand offense and elevated it more than any quarterback since Matt Ryan Matt Ryan won the MVP in 2016 under kle Shanahan so C has a chance in year three by the way to improve he's a seventh round pick who's you know getting stronger maybe adds a little bit more velocity so yeah they'll be as dangerous as ever it's just a matter right now of more than X's and O's it's personalities and keeping guys happy and getting everybody pointed toward the same goal and check Sy yeah man what do you what do you think about the iuk trade specifically you think anything's happening or like by the time we finally get to week one he's just wearing a Niners uniform he's probably wearing a Niners uniform I don't understand what the holdup is you know there's so much back and forth as far as the negotiations go and look they're gonna have to pay Brock pie a big number that probably starts with a six a year from now unless he crazy dude right I mean unless he completely collapses this year yeah he's probably in that 5560 million range a year from now I think they need to figure out the accounting how do you keep all those great players right now it's easy Brock P's got the most valuable contract in the NFL basically wor you know last last pick in the draft and adding so much value as a starter so I think that's what they're trying to figure out is the you know the terms the accounting to keep everybody on the field a year from now I think that's going to be the the biggest challenge there but I think ultimately iuk ends up back there and we're looking at a loaded ners team for 24 here yeah uh I mean they are loaded when you I mean they might have the best player in football at like three different positions which is as maybe four dude I think you could even include Warner if you want to go like Bosa Trent M War yeah best Lineback best fullback Kyle they got it all y I mean you could almost argue KD Kelsey's regular season anyway last year wasn't as good um Steve I I have followed your work four years at PFF uh I think it's really cool you and Sam are branching out starting your own thing tell us more about the check the mic podcast yeah it was uh I appreciate it by the way I mean it's been we had a we both had a great run at PFF I was there 13 years I think this week um but we had a great opportunity to start our own podcast it's it's a lot of the same content but it's called check the mic and you know our fans have always enjoyed our long form analysis so we go two and a half hours on a Monday morning viewing every game it is long right we used to have people say oh keep it to an hour keep it to an hour and a half like no we're giving every team that there love so we're going for wherever you listen to your podcast and then you know same thing on YouTube check the mic cool man everybody should check it out check the mic I like the little play on words there uh Steve thank you for the time man I appreciate you joining us maybe we can keep doing it as the season goes on yeah I'm down appreciate it all right great everybody check out check the mic give Steve a follow Steve palazolo we come back the phone are still lit up people are mad or happy about Johan doson we'll talk to him next e e e e e e e e e e e e e did I understand correct that Little John introduced the Georgia delegation at the DNC I think that's accurate right good for little John man you never know where this world's going to take you dude um here's where it's gonna take us a whole bunch of people on the line mad happy about the trade um if you live under a rock or perhaps under a bridge or something um and are unaware Johan doson 2022 first round pick wide receiver was traded by the Washington commanders to the Philadelphia Eagles just yesterday um commanders sent doson and a fifth round pick I can't stress that enough two Philly for a third rounder and a pair of sevens a pair of sevens good and poker probably not worth acck of a lot in the NFL draft um people are mad like Patrick hello Pat what's up hey JP happy Friday to you how you doing thanks bud I'm good how are you good so a couple of things remember last year how um and maybe this why the Eagles traded for him remember when Jan made that uh pretty clutch catch at the end to send that game to overtime I think it was I can't remember if it was I think it was game one against Philly yeah I think it was week three or week four yep I remember that and then remember a couple years ago the game that still haunts me when we lost against the Giants I think it was Sunday night in that pivotal game where we just kind of imploded but Jan made that like incredible catch to kind of put us in like driving distance to tie the game or take the lead remember that yep so my problem is that I don't it's not even that I don't think we got enough for him but you can't convince me that his stock wouldn't have gone up after this season when we had Sam how get sacked 40 whatever times and nobody on the offense besides Terry who's our number one barely get a thousand yards in an extended U season you know what I mean so it's like I you can't tell me that his stock wouldn't have gone up this next year now the only way TR hang on hang on Yo one thing to understand with NFL trades is that the contract is almost as important as the player and one one thing that absolutely would have changed in your scenario if Jan bowled out this year is that if he was then to get traded after three years in the NFL you're allowed to open up contract negotiations off off a rookie deal so wherever you're trading him all of a sudden that team one has to decide if they're going to pick up the option two has to decide if they're going to enter into a contract discussion and and you have less years of Team control on the contract so to say there's no way that his his value could go lower if he had a good season isn't accurate because some teams are more interested in having three years of control than two does that make sense right no that you actually taught me something I really didn't know that you could go into contract negotiations that to me makes a little bit more sense then and I don't think that's the consideration here but that's why these quarterbacks get their deals after three years in the league right no and that makes sense and last thing because I know you got a lot of people on the line here but what I wanted to say is you know with Jan um I I guess you know I think he's a great guy I don't know if I buy into all the reports I mean you covered the team more closely than me I don't know if you could tell by his body language was that bad but to be honest with you I think the only way this makes sense if Luke mcaffrey and again you know you've probably seen Luke mcaffrey on the practice field more than I have the only way to me this really makes sense to take away a weapon from a rookie quarterback which I don't like that they did is that Luke mcaffry is just that good he's like the next puka coming out of this draft that you know he's just gonna ball out and he's gonna do what they expect and they're GNA take a bet on that guy rather than the guy that you know they didn't you know marry into that they're willing to kind of separate from so um I'm not ready to say puka I think he has improved over the five weeks of training camp for sure thank you Pat if Chris is in there Chris go get rooster he just walked by I think he's wearing burgundy landfill if you know what I'm saying um Drew is in the eastern CH oh this is Drew what up Drew you making lob on Sunday what that lots of rolls yeah I just I just bought eight pounds of Claws from Costco wow my man I try to come see you yeah it'll be good it'll be rocking what do you think of the trade I you know I've decided that until November 2025 I'm just going to be all in on Adam Peter's decisions right we said that we needed a real GM and it just takes a while to understand whether these things are good or not now I'll have an opinion in November 1 uh but I'm gonna stay silent on it today and I'm gonna give him the benefit of the doubt um all right man I I think that is that is probably the best plan for your heart rate try to take a deep breath relax a little and just go go with the flow thank you drew focus on his tailgate it's going to be a beautiful weekend and we got football back at Commander Stadium I mean that's the story in my book I love it drew thanks for the positivity brother um speaking of positivity uh we now welcome in the one and only Chris Russell I'm gonna show all the people on the stream The Roosters in the building show them what's up Roost what's up JP I am the uh the prince of positivity that is for sure what do you make of yesterday's trade I don't think I got to talk to you yeah I didn't because you were out there um you know and I I heard obviously you coming in and I I you know here's the deal my montree was not surprised at all in any way shape or form I I didn't think Johan Dodson was in a battle for the number two spot I thought he was in a battle all along for a roster spot now granted before I knew this staff more like I.E over the summer I of course I thought he was going to be probably the number two at worst the number three yeah but you know you're around every day you talk to people I don't even talk to anywhere near the amount of people I used to I just pay attention sorry I me he was in The Chateau BW well period Kings Berry's comment yesterday I tweeted it out about what they want in their white outs yes like that answered the question without answering the question and that was obviously after the trade but so I I saw that on your Instagram and I texted you something a link to a play that I put up yesterday from Saturday night in Miami with about a minute left to go in the first quarter when they throw a little quick hit to the sideline to alamad SAS and Jan Dotson's got the lead front block and he's engaged about four yards north of where zakas catches the ball and he loses the block and the player makes the play and blows up the play for the game hey L like that was the last it rooster just said he texted me that the uh the last text I have from rooster in Instagram my friend giving away ice cream in the lobby and he replied on Wednesday August 14th thanks I I I appreciate that uh I said Instagram you put it up on Instagram because you you are cool and you use the gram a lot should I tell everybody Rooster's phone number what would you do if I gave out your cell phone number over the air you probably don't remember this cuz I don't think you were on the beat you remember Cory lion Steiger the former C a player I did not cover him I knew him for a couple of weeks and I gave out his phone number inadvertently over the air that was not a fun moment I gave out Pete Haley's phone number once and Jeff gave out his own phone number um but there's difference between uh you know Paris Pete and uh a big old nasty football Center I have Chris Russell's number here if you want me to yeah yeah yeah please all right so it's uh 703 702 h I'm not going to give the whole thing out wow W I thought he was about to do it I mean I'm sure it's a what a genio New York number where the hell do you say I'm from you're from Buffalo yeah I think you often say I'm from a suburb of Buffalo which even though you don't know any suburbs of buff you think there's another move coming yeah um so I still don't buy the whole Brandon auk thing maybe on Johnny come lately on the I I don't know I I I think they're out not because there's no interest but because of the totality of the cost um even though it makes a lot of sense for a lot of reasons and now the drum beat you know you you know Mike silver right he's been a long time you know NFL scribe he's you know well connected I'm not he he said on KBR in San Francisco he wouldn't rule it out yeah and then of all of a sudden Twitter the Twitter ATI started and Oh's let's get uh uh what do you call it um Brandon iuk back um I still don't think that's happening I think it's more likely more likely that if they were to trade for somebody that's a big name it would maybe be T Higgins from Cincinnati somebody that I don't think would cost them anywhere near as much both financially and probably trade compensation wise but I I still JP I don't know how you feel like I like every you know I heard Grant yesterday you whining and crying about how they're taking away weapons from Jaden Daniels yes they are but like like they have some people to throw the football to they are going to be a better offense yeah exactly multiple tight ends now listen I mean I might be a little higher on John Bates maybe having a Renaissance year or whatever whatever that would qualify as but you know Zack hers if he can stay St and that's a huge thing for 15 games I think we talked about this the other day yeah 60 catches right there they haven't had that kind of production since 2020 out of the tight end spot not to mention Austin Eckler who three years ago had 105 catches now he's not going to have that much this Brian Robinson you and I both know Brian Robinson can catch the rock out of the back field they are not just limited to ground and pound with Brian Robinson and oh by the way yeah I mean and you said it on my way in and I've been saying essentially the same thing we all think hope dami Brown is the real deal finally but until he actually proves it in games that matter we we we can only hope that's it but I do think he will be much better than whatever he has been and then zakus and Luke mcaffrey and so on and so forth I I have seen diami be good in Ashburn yeah a lot yeah but he hasn't been good once the lights turn on for real we'll see man um you got to hope better quarterback better system and didn't he do something this off season that I guess was a f I think I read somewhere I don't know maybe commander.com that he had like he was like catching like 500 balls a day or something like that he did say something about the DRS machine I mean that's great terrific I mean it'll it should help 500 balls a day does it matter that who if heavy metal Chris does I mean he's stud he's a gazelle look at that I I mean would you want to face that if you threw him out on a screen now I was going to talk about you wearing a red shirt but I see that it's your best buddy shirt so that does not necessarily have the same that's right can't make fun best buddies baby um you got a show today I do it's it starts at 2 according to you did you hear how I ended my show yesterday I did not because I was on the air with my show before 2 o'clock okay Hot Shot we were off at 12:30 because it was a Nat that's right I forgot and as our show went off as as the Dotson news was going bananas I said congratulations to Chris Russell he's gonna have his best ratings ever today brother I had nine lines jammed pretty much the entire three hours we had to blow off a guest that we had scheduled so uh you know today we have Santana Moss you know I mean I think is obviously a good fit and WWE Superstar Bianca belir because WWE is at Capital One Arena tonight oh is it or Friday Night Smackdown you going and not really Lenny couldn't get juice well he's he's moving his daughter in at ODU so he can't make it back in time I could have asked him for tickets I could have gotten tickets from anybody God forbid you pay for them exactly why I mean I I don't make JP Finley money I tell you that much are you aware that I had to purchase eight tickets to the Washington spirit for Sunday's game yeah facts you know what else is facts you should go buy a car from orsman Automotive of Virginia uh I have bought numerous cars from Orman Automotive of Virginia they do a great job people make the difference you can buy a car anywhere it I mean it it's like what Cliff Kingsbury said it's what you do without the ball is what matters for receivers because everybody can run good routes and make catches but will you throw the blocks will will you you all right Roose Roose your flies down you're on the stream um here's what I'm telling you you go to orsman Automotive of Virginia they do the work that people aren't seeing the service stands out the orsman lifetime Edge I I can't vouge for these people enough seven locations all over Northern Virginia from Alexandria to chanelli all the makes models you want interest rates are going down go buy a car e e e e e e e e e and Finley B MIT California Finley in studio um getting some news out of Ashburn G to talk about that gonna hear from Dan Quinn coming up at one o'clock phone Line's been going all day stay there all right and you stay there we will officially open them up at one o'clock even though people been calling all damn day um we do though real quick need to hit the seams all the baseball coverage on 1067 the fan is presented by T-Mobile switched to T mobile and you can get tons of benefits and still save on every plan versus AT&T and Verizon use the savings calculator to find out how at t-mobile.com switch um Toby Altier is the official baseball correspondent for the B Mitch family program but he blew us off he said go to hell I don't even think Toby says hell but if he did it's basically what he told us um in his place is our boy Mike Beasley from MGM National Harbor bees is obsessed with with baseball and is going to help us make sense of the Wild Card race right now what up bees what's up player um just driving in NY okay good and you're gonna watch you're going to two Yankees games this weekend the Yanks are that going to the Yan Rockies Yankees yep both tonight and tomorrow are the Yankees getting hot at the right time they're getting hot at the right time buddy they're they're jelling you know I I'm still thinking they're missing a couple pieces in that lineup I me you got your two and three hitter but uh pretty good yeah uh I like this Luis Heil he started off hot Cortez I think he's really going to be a key coordinate for these guys to see what he can and can't do he pitches tonight as well so yeah the Yankees are looking good your o's are looking horrible um take it easy and uh you know their their erra for pitching is like Cy Allstar break I think they're ranked 28 to like 4.85 or something so absolutely bad wrong time for the Orioles to go south and there's you know teams that are right behind them in the Wild Card run now that are only two or three games behind them you hate to see the Orioles you know do so well stop with that all right did you want to talk about another team no but seriously all right I'm gonna try to be a grownup um O's are four and six in their last 10 they've lost two in a row going up to New York and and what happened in that Mets series I feel like kind of broke them a little bit um they are broke them is they got seven guys on the IR yeah they don't have any pitching they you know they're they're missing pieces in that team right now they they uh guys on the but they bring in seven new guys at the end of the trade deadline and I think it just really uh ruined the the team dichotomy I I think it's gone away and and I think that's what's certain this team at this point and and it's going to be tough for them to stay where they are I mean I hope they make the playoffs I'm sorry to say that pal there's some other teams that are much hotter Kansas City Royals they currently one game out of first in the AL East so I'm gonna I'm going to try one and a half one and a half okay um what do we make of the Guardians how good are they man that Bullpen is crazy well you know they are really a good team and you know I like them in tonight's game too with B pitching I mean he's such a small favorite I just can't see that that particular number but uh I like Tanner B the Indians you you got a lot of no names on there we got our boy LT that's over there that's been struggling never seen so many strikeouts from Lane Thomas uh but that team is just Sur with good ball players out there for the most part no names and that's you know what's incredibly impressive you know that division is impressive you got three teams are probably going to go to the playoffs if if the it started today you got the Indians the Twins and the Kansas City Royals one of the hottest teams since the All-Star break GNA go to the postseason and who would have saw that you know when you got strong teams like Texas and Houston and all these other teams in other divisions and you got four teams in in American League East that are all over 500 and you got three that are going to go from the central so hey peace yep it's Guardians sir let's what did I say Indian yes let's let's let's switch to the NL hey by the way this never you've never said [ __ ] so I'm the only bad guy here I never would sir um so in the in the AL you got Yanks Guardians Astros winning the divisions who are your three wild cards if you had to pick it like we're getting close now there's only what 30 games left or whatever yeah so I'm going to kind of I mean I I really like the Kansas City Royals I'm going to play them to win the American League Division at plus 1100 which you can catch right now they've been the one of the hottest hottest six teams in baseball since the All-Star break so I'm gonna take them um I'm gonna pass on the white socks yeah blame you're your Orioles are going to be the wild card team and then it's gonna be a I don't think the twins get there for some reason but I don't know the red Boston I like the Boston Red Sox if anything that comes out of the the Cent I mean the East over there so that would be if I had to say it'd be Baltimore Boston and Kansas City Royals let uh let your guys know and I'm letting my guys know that are listening I'm gonna need some tickets for playoff baseball in Baltimore I'm just letting the world know that um let's switch to the NL um Dodgers Phillies Brewers all look like they're going to win their divisions you never know the Diamondbacks are hot the Padre's are hot um the Braves right now would be in the wild card with the Padre and the Dbacks but the Mets are right on their heels um yeah the Mets are just as good as the 1962 Mets when they lost 120 games which could be taken over by the White Sox this year they've got to go 11 and 23 to actually have I think it's 42 wins and 120 losses I don't I i' never buy into the Mets I don't buy into Pete Alonzo I don't buy into that I mean Francisco Lindor is the only kid on that team that I think is a legit ball player I can go with him I don't think he's enough to get him into the playoffs Bray are going to sneak in there they're hitting horrible Matt Olson I want to say he's B under 240 you know they lose one of their big stars but Ozuna is just really been taking the ball and running with it he's a stud for that team I think they get in they close down that division with the Phillies which the Phillies are I want to say 12 and 18 c the All-Star break so they're on a rough run and some of the rough numbers with the Phillies man they're just not hitting the breaking ball and the two guys that are really missing in hitting at really low percentages is Harper and schwarber I mean it's uh they're a fastball hitting team and I think teams are starting to recognize that and they're getting a lot of off spe pitches and just you know they're not doing what they're supposed to you know the Phillies got a tough road uh set this weekend with the Royals at Kansas City and like I said it numerous times in just this conversation Kansas City is good and it's the old uh marriage that was the 2019 Washington World Series team Kevin long against his assistant hitting coach uh Joe Dylan so that'll be the matchup in Kansas City and I'm probably the only dummy that knows it probably um I in the NL I'm rooting for the Brewers and the Padres and that's probably the end of my list my number one priority though is probably the Mets not making the playoffs just so I can rub that in Mitch tishler and Danny Frank's face um and and let's keep a watch on one other thing you know Bobby wood Junior's I think leading the the league with a 350 to Aaron judge uh is on the cusp I mean he's he's I think hitting 336 337 he he's got the most home runs most RBI he could get a Triple Crown hasn't happened since Cabrera back in 2016 so uh could be in for you know really good finish for the end of the 2024 season be thank you buddy safe travels to New York enjoy the uh enjoy the Yankee games and enjoyed some time with the fam all right brother thank you much happy birthday Hudson Beasley all right that's it's our guy Mike Beasley MGM National Harbor total baseball nut all our baseball coverage brought to you by T-Mobile all right now is the time of the program we were going to officially open the phone lot 800 636 1067 800 636 1067 you want to talk Jan we'll talk Johan you can ask me anything you want it is SJP Finley anything e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e B Finley one67 the fan uh this time of the week is usually when you get to ask Brian anything you want Brian's on an airplane so you're stuck with me sorry um as Terry mclen yelled yesterday at football practice eat that um before we get to the phones which are lit up and we're going to take phones the whole rest of the hour I think 800 636 1067 Dan Quinn addressing the media about the Jan doson trade take it away DQ good day so I think uh I'll start off by there's a famous quote the only thing constant life is change and that's in life but it's also in football too and uh speaking of that change want to thank uh Jan and Riley for their time here and we wish them the very best in their their next chapter so a lot of changes honestly since Adam and I arrived and uh there'll be a lot more you know in the future too so one thing that cannot change and won't um is the way that we compete and that's an every single part of what we've done you've heard us talk through that from the time we got here and so that's literally what we stand for in everything to find those edges find those margins in all sorts of ways so um all that said John ready to get started so why the decision to trade Johan you know I think at the end we're always going to make the decisions um you know that are just rock solid and best for the team and uh this was one of those examples where we had an opportunity to do that and uh so that's that's why we did it how much of that how much did the performance of others maybe at similar spots contribute to the decision to then make that move I think everything's a factor when you're you know talking about evaluations of things you've heard us say this we thought this was a deep and strong group uh that had a lot of you know different guys and fature them in different ways but uh certainly at the end like I said just really matter of just hey here was an opportunity to go help the team and thought that was the best way to go about it hey Dan uh so obviously you and Adam are going through a lot of first together next week with the cut down Daye will be another one how do you envision sort of the the whatever the final conversations may be how do you kind of see that going down and ultimately if there's a stalemate does what what happens then yeah no stalemates he he gets that one to go so um what I love is being you know a part of the process with him uh but that's Adam's call to go but good news is you know we're in all the the meetings together and discuss the players together and um it's the hardest part of it you know to whether you have to talk to somebody after you know releasing them or trade or however those you know conversations work um the important thing is we get a chance to you know give feedback to the player and where it's at but uh it's always the hardest part you know next week and into that process but uh it is part of it and uh as the evaluations go so much goes into it it's not one game or one quarter you know you try to use the whole body of work you know to put the best group available and I know we're done talking about the qb1 one conversation in terms of competition but in terms of the rest of the room is there any other comp competition going whether it's for the two or keeping three or how do you kind of view that yeah we we haven't uh we won't say you know in terms of how many but uh what I can say and what I have before is this is a really remarkable quarterback room that can also give energy you know to other parts of the team so um love the way that they have actually competed Ben that's one of the things that really stood out to me and their support of one another so um like a lot of spots on the roster big decisions there you know as it goes down to you know how many and how to feature the guys but uh man I couldn't have been more impressed by the group will qb1 play on on Sunday he will not Batman thank you yes thank you very much um first training camp here did it go there you go that is Dan Quinn uh addressing the media some really good information there um I think Lille you're the chief BS officer of the program he wished Jan well he said they're happy with the group they've got um and they'll continue to try to improve the team I I I think that's all pretty accurate right like I don't hear it as yeah we got to go out and add somebody else also obviously the I suppose breaking news is that Jaden Daniels isn't gonna play Sunday night I you'd be a buffoon if you thought he was um what did you hear there from DQ uh yeah I I think when he said that he wishes him well he he means it I don't think they got any animosity towards the guy um he did say that it was Adam peters's decision I don't think that he meant to imply that maybe they weren't like 100% in agreement there but uh I did notice that and I thought that was kind of interesting and then with Jaden not playing uh nobody really expected him to right like I said if you did you're a buffoon I'm not saying you wanted him to want verse expectations are different but he he wasn't going to um I think there really aren't that many surprises honestly um so I I think I don't know I want to let the the folks be mad or be happy or whatever some of the folks have been on hold a while PJ is in St Louis we're going to St Louis you can find me in St Louis what up PJ hey JP how are you sneezing a lot today well hope those Alles get a little better I just wanted to call and ask you said a couple times uh over the past couple months that this season's really about figuring out if you found your franchise QB and I kind of agree with you I'm wondering are you at all concerned about the lack of established weapons for a rookie QB if that can they has a bad season with lack of weapons does that hurt his confidence moving forward I'd just love to hear your take on that so I've heard this and I feel like I feel like this became a thing with Justin Fields because everybody was so convinced that Chicago didn't do enough for him and I don't know but I think when you're just really good you're really good I I think you look at Houston last year and everybody is is now convinced that niik Collins and tank Dell were just studs right and hell maybe they are but you're talking about a third rounder and a fourth rounder that just had awesome Seasons because the quarterback was awesome and and you could say that like a guy doesn't have enough weapons whatever you want and that may or may not be true you'd love for every situation to be Brock pury where you know the team is loaded and and P's able to succeed I just I don't know that I mean Terry McClaren is a stud right he's getting paid like a stud said whatever it is four straight thousand yard seasons McLaren's a stud right so you're putting Jaden Daniels into a situation where there's at least a stud at white out Austin Eckler scored 40 touchdowns in two seasons and that was only two years ago ecka had a over a hundred catches Zack hers has been to Pro Bowls won a Super Bowl so I just I don't know that they don't have enough weapons and and I'm not frankly I'm not saying this one way or the other but I'm not entirely convinced that having Jan meant they had enough weapons like if if you remove the draft status and just and Matthew Barry always does this player a player B if if you just were shown Jan's stats through two seasons I don't think anybody be like man that's an elite weapon right so no yeah totally F I don't know if you thought they had enough weapons or did not I'm not entirely convinced that losing Jan changes that calculus thank you for listening in St Louis is that Central Time Zone what time is it in St Louis it is uh 12:13 p.m. so you're an hour behind do you eat that weird plastic cheese pizza they like out there of course I gotta stick up for Emos we love it out here home of Jason Tatum and home of uh home of Emos Pizza all right man take care also home of uh my friend Brian's wife Jamie Jamie callery um my man Tyler been on hold over an hour and I'm sorry about that Tyler Tyler what up what's up JP chilling sneezing hey I was this is Tyler Turner I was calling to apologize for the M my miscommunication on X with you I wasn't calling you an idiot I was trying to say look at this idiot that thinks the Eagles took Jan so they could get Washington's Playbook I strongly dis disagree with that guy oh were you doing a bit and I and I didn't see it yeah I'm sorry man that's that's my fault I had bit blinders on yeah as far as the trade goes I'm of the trust this regime until they prove they can't be trusted crowd I don't really know what to make of it at this point yo if they bring if they bring in a bigname receiver it'll make a lot more sense in my eyes uh but that's all I got man happy Scotty vodka Red Bull Friday and cheers brother Tyler I I mean this sincerely I you're you're a standup dude to wait on hold for an hour to apologize nobody ever apologizes to me so I appreciate that and you didn't need to that's my bad for missing the bit man all good thank you man that's my fault man have a good one take care um how about that lfi I I legitimately think that's the first time in history someone has apologized to me on this program like ever I mean I've certainly never done it especially after apologizing for something that happened on the cess pool that is Twitter listen man if you're if you're willing to weade into the Twitter Waters you got to take all the arrows all the slings everything that's happening out there um Kenny or Zion where do you want to go Kenny Kenny it is Hello Kenny Kenny you there landville Kenny was your pick you get him on the damn phone Kenny I mean that's my fault Kenny see you later Kenny uh Zion is in Sterling what up Z I'm here in Sur County Virginia hey I gotta let y'all know I am glad that we got a coach and a GM that knows real football I I feel like we're going to a Smashmouth violent physical highspeed style of football and at the wide receiver position you got to love the block and you got to have a body frame to be about that life Perry is going to be our wide receiver number two I smell it coming he he's great yes I love him 4,000 yards backto back season all that great stuff he's done but he's small we need some big mean wide receivers that can match that intensity it's going to be coming out the backfield with Brian Robson I call him bulletproof that brother coming out the backfield powerful so it's going to be a winning brand of football but it's going to be physical and then it's gonna be a bunch of Dusty clouds on the field thank you Zion I don't know that that was a question but that's okay um appreciate the call 80063 61067 um we're GNA talk to Ben Bolan from Boston next uh listen Jaden Daniels not playing cool the Patriots are lining up jacobe brassette and Drake May so this could be a pretty cool interesting game to watch um I was just talking to Grant in the break one thing that's been kind of a bummer is we haven't seen what I would determine to be the Commander's actual starting defense really at all this off season uh because Wagner John Allen and donon Payne haven't played and they're sure sure as hell not going to play Sunday night I am fascinated to see if they are significant ly better with that group on the field I don't know that they will be um but they theyve run some different packages with Wagner out there and louu as well that that I think will be really interesting to see and we're not going to get to see it um some of the interesting Parts hearing kind of gearing up Tuesday's cut day right um Monday Brian and I are going to be at this golf tournament contractors against cancer really excited about that um Tuesday's cut day and I don't know how the bottom of some of these position groups is going to shake out I do think it'll be fascinating to watch some of the decisions they make you keep it four tight ends this Cass Allen thing H how much of a priority is Cass Allen you got him working with the running backs now he fumbled last week I know that um I also think you can get Cass to your practice squad I am just genuinely interested in a lot of what they can or can't do lfi I I'd like to ask you a question also I can see the cluster Buster is he holding pizza what's he holding uh it's most likely Pizza yeah yeah he is holding pizza that is confirmed and all of a sudden smells like Italian subs around here are you aware of that smell yeah I'm uh I'm aware um is there like a you hold on one goddamn second Chris hold on now hold on I thought we were all in this together you made a point even though you've been running around constantly you made a point of telling me that you are on our show today I'm also on great and Danny today did you go get a sub no Ryan brought stuff in for certain someone's birthday today and just completely excluded lill and I and included you I'm working their show today too they did also incl you get to go home they included Denton yes St stallion you little glow up bleep get over here I'm just screaming now I I am I am hungry and I am angry stallion so he brought in food for Denton and heavy metal Chris I yo it's Danny's birthday fire away get your ass on that microphone I don't care how late we go lanfield I don't give a rip you don't need headphones you can hear me you don't need any damn headphones can you hear me I can hear you I can hear you okay it's Danny ru's birthday happy birthday to Danny have a great birthday Danny I mean it sincerely yes you brought food in for everybody no I did not bring in food I was going who go pick up food I was ordered by Danny to go get food for his birthday and so who so Danny had to get his own food for his birthday well I paid for it it was I can tell you this that's gonna change it was B's birthday and I ordered a lot of food and everybody that was here got to have it I was out on vacation I just came back so heavy metal Chris got food right yes because he's working our show today what about Denton day that well we run in a pizza and I'm not the one who's in charge of the pizza it's not my birthday I was just in there what do we think here I think it's definitely Ryan's fault L I have been good pizza most of the freaking program Brian's in California heavy metal Chris is apparently the tech expert mm um we're starving we're dying we're fighting and dying on these streets I've been talking about Johan Dawson for three and a half hours now there's pizza and and food everywhere and lanfield tells me you're to blame I mean I know he's gonna say that I'm the blame if I did anything just if I just walked in the room and something blew up you're the one that walked in with the food I know I walked in with food but guess what I didn't pay for the food I didn't even have said you paid for the food I paid for the food yes I'm I hope to God I'm not paying for the food I can tell you that $78 I don't have hold on lfi did he pay for the food or not because he's keeps saying he paid for the food but he didn't pay for the food he he he paid for the food he picked the food up he brought the food into the station he passed out the food whenever I have stuff everyone works do I offer you stuff you always do but this is not I my freaking case this is not my idea though I was so he picked it up and paid for it but he's not in charge of it in any capacity I mean I saw him handing it out handing it out to everyone but us because I was given directions you think likes food I know he yes I know everyone likes do you think I like food I know you do yes did I get you like 800 zins from North Carolina you did and I I ran through those real quick during the Zen apocalypse it's still going on it seems better now uh okay I'm disapp you know what I'm not mad you're not mad I'm just disappointed you scolded me I I was the doors were open not mad I'm not mad I'm just disappointed I know you are and I'm sorry if this was not my call Danny wanted the Italian store for his birthday I live right next to the Italian store you picked it up paid for it it out to everyone but lill and I but it's not his fault it's I I was directed to order four subs and a Sicilian pizza that's all I did lfi how many subs or Sicilian pizza did you get I got no sub no no uh Sicilian pizza also no sub no Sicilian pizza here you know who would never treat me like this slil you know who would never treat me like this uh Orman the fine people at Orman Automotive of Virginia they would never ever ever treat me like this in fact I once did a podcast at Orman Fairfax Toyota garv galotti ordered like 80 pizzas everybody got pizza it was a pizza party that's the kind of service you get at orsman Automotive of Virginia I want everyone in the DMV to go buy a car from orsman Automotive of Virginia except Ryan the stallion I want you to pay overpriced I want you to go somewhere else get terrible interest rates and a real POS car everybody else go to Orman buy a dope car get good interest rates I'm starving e e e e e e e e e e e e e e B Mitch Finley 1067 the fan um folks been calling all day we're going to keep the phone lines open something weird happened in the last segment think like uh demon took over or something go go back and get on the Odyssey app hit rewind if you need to um I'm G let my man Kenny called back from North Carolina Kenny are you there this time JP you hear me I hear you buddy what's up listen this to me was nothing but a culture thing you can't have One Bad Apple spoiled a whole bunch when you got a new coaching staff and you're trying to make everybody get on the same page even if the perception is he was not coachable doing as they were asking him to do first he got moved down the dep chart and the second time you know now he gets shown the door I think this was just One Bad Apple not foiling a whole bunch and the coaching staff in the front office is absolutely 100% right to get rid of that guy now you know the last the last regimes we had in here he probably could act like any way he wanted to but I I I have called the move that you were able to get a three back from because that guy's going to be a starter if you pick the right guy Kenny I I appla the move I I I'm with you as far as like now is the right time to do it um I think it was Mike Rizzo I don't I don't remember where I first heard this but there's a lot of decisions being made in life where the right time to make them is never but the SEC the best time to make to do something is never right like if you're in a bad marriage the the right time to get divorced is never but if you got to do it the best time to do it yesterday like some things you just got to act right you got to be decisive if you have an employee if you have an employee you have to fire like letting it linger doesn't help so I do applaud them for that I I don't know I I think calling Jan doson a cancer is is a bridge too far I i' I didn't I didn't mean it like that I said One Bad Apple I don't even know that he's a bad apple dude he just might not be very physical and they want physic read between the lines of what um what what Quin was saying when you played that uh tape a little while ago I think there's a big difference though because to me Bad Apple starts to talk about character and and I don't know that there's a character concern here as much as it's he's the wrong fit for what they're building and dude like I talked to people around the NFL and one answer I got after is I'm telling you that catch against the Jets with Jeff Driscoll a quarterback just before halftime stood out to me and a bunch of people in the NFL were like how thrilled would you be if you were still out there in the first preseason game like there there's a lot of different philosophies man uh I do appreciate you calling back though Kenny thanks buddy um Co from the fox has a question what's up Co what's up JP man my question is brother when you next time you get in the press conference see what's going on with mavius bran I know you had a spent with Dallas and we brought him in here I thought maybe Dan Quinn might have saw something in and brought him over here but uh what's going on I haven't seen him out in the field or nothing like that what's going on with Brian maybe you got some insight what's up uh sure man I think you know Quinn and Martavis have talked at this point um I watched him yesterday going through drills it was kind of interesting in that they kind of starting to divide guys up that especially in in individual work that they consider as um outside guys versus inside guys and I think Martavis Bryant yesterday was probably like fourth in line in the drills with the guys that are clearly outside guys um you know he's got an opportunity the fact that the rules have changed on practice squads have have really kind of changed the scenario for Bryant and for everybody that's like oh man but if you put him on the practice squad you might lose him they were they signed him on August 17th like he was available to the whole world uh he does present something though that's completely different in that he's got size speed athleticism they they don't have anybody all their receivers are like my size basically and then there's Bryson Tain who catches everything thrown his way and has had a really good camp uh but not an explosive athlete and then there's Martavis Bryant who is an explosive athlete but hasn't played in the NFL in six years uh I don't know how it's all going to shake out it's gonna be very interesting to watch um I I wouldn't be overly excited about Martavis Bryant but like if he makes a play tomorrow night like when you get to next Tuesday when they have to do roster Cuts there is one less dude that's gonna be on the roster in Johan doson right like if if they're gonna keep six white outs everybody got bumped up one spot because datson is gone and I I find that pretty interesting um you know tier and I talked about this yesterday like who is the Dotson news best for who is the datson trade best for and you could honestly make an argument that it's best for a guy like Bryson Tain or even Martavis Bryant maybe it's best for a guy like Cass Allen who despite a fumble and I I think a really misplayed punt return um they seem to like and and maybe he gets on the roster because he's an intriguing piece that they don't really have that kind of shiftiness Elsewhere Eckler I think gives you that but you're not going to use Eckler in some of those roles uh um I don't know it's going to be fascinating to watch what happens with Bryant if anything I don't know how it will all shake out um but I mean he was so damn good with the Steelers back in the day but it was 10 years ago lville we've basically done nothing but talk about Jan doson all day save for a uh a little portion where I screamed at stallion about getting food for everybody but you and I um just so we're clear if somebody go and gets the food and pays for the food doesn't that make them in charge of the food absolutely yeah Ryan the stallion betrayed us betrayed us um you have a number of topics on the show sheet that correct that you wanted me to discuss and I largely just blew it all off it just kept talking about Jan largely because people just kept calling non-stop right um now is there one topic on here you'd like to address most oo um I would like to hear uh your opinion on who the top performers in commanders training camp were today is the last day of camp which is kind of wild um also means next week like the reporters getting to watch all of CA all of practice is over um all right who who has been the best performers of Camp samur still jumps to mind defensively um he's been really good I think honestly Jaden Daniels has been really really good dami's been quite good I thought I think Eckler and Zs have looked fantastic when I wasn't necessarily expecting that um BR Rob looks good and strong but I kind of was expecting that like I know what they have in Brian Robinson um you know the kicking situation has been really bad can't stress that enough but the operation the term we learned so much about last year has looked quite good Tyler a seems to have complet like the best thing that can happen with a Long Snapper is you just never hear their name and I I think that's the direction that's going to go with a there um like the only way you hear about Long Snapper like when sunberg was here for so long and he was so good you only heard about his charity worker you know what I mean like let's hope Tyler H does charity I know I was kind of surprised by this he's quite he's a good Instagram follow he's always throwing content up on the grant um I don't know his exact handle but you should follow um who else has looked really good out there I think the the other rookies have kind of come around um I I am very curious though as as much as this rookie class will kind of rise and fall on what Jaden Daniels does right now granted it's only preseason the second round pick and the third round pick haven't played at all Johnny Newton Illinois D tackle not playing uh Brandon Coleman third round left tackle not playing like at some point that's a thing I don't know that now is that point but at some point that that is a thing um defensively in the secondary I don't know what they've got I can't be more clear I don't know what they've got at corner um Castro Fields has had a pretty decent Camp Castro Fields is the guy they signed is he off the Jets practice squad a couple years ago he's been up and down off their practice squad you don't want to aspirin syndrome ourselves is Castro Fields looking good relative to competition or is he looking good right like those are reasonable questions that we don't necessarily have answers to but you know who will have answers or who will provide a real test Mike Evans Chris Godwin Baker Mayfield um Tampa week one uh Tyler Owens I think has probably been one of the cooler stories from Camp undrafted free agent out of Texas Tech Red raidas I think he's on the roster frankly I don't know how the hell they're going to shake out the safety room and I don't know how they have enough Corners you you generally want six corners and I think if you got to pick six from what they've got right now you got at least two that are practice squad players and I think they're going to be super active on the waiver wire particularly at the corner position one name to watch man um I think it's a kid out of Dallas I'm trying to remember his name Corner Eric Scott keep an eye on Eric Scott nobody go anywhere it is B fing e e e e e e e e e e e e e e B Mitch fidley 1067 the fan that's great news coming right there uh Dylan Cruz in the Outfield Monday night against Yanks that should be a lot of fun in Old nstown um I hope folks are excited and ready for that uh that LSU team geez they were loaded they cruise and skines um hell of a show today lot of fun um I enjoyed it hope everybody enjoyed it um lill this weekend I am actually going to a soccer game and now I'm obviously going to the commanders game Saturday Sunday night and we have an hourong pregame show on NBC4 everybody watch it please um I'm gonna try to try some food on the show might be into that they're rolling out you know how every team every sport every season shows like all the new food options so they're doing that prior to the game with selected media and uh I'm going to try what do you think I should try to do have them make it fresh for me at 7 when we're on the air or just keep it from like 4 o'clock when they're showing everybody and then eat it three hours later uh I think you should try to get him to make it for you yeah I think so too right three-hour old uh ballpark food could be a little rough there yeah you're you're not incorrect um but Sunday I am taking my daughter and her friends to the spirit game be my first spirit game lill I am uh fired up how do you think me and six kids are going to do at the spirit game on Sunday lfi somebody is putting you in charge of six separate children let's be clear my wife is also going so she's like in charge I'm kind of just there you're the seventh child that she'll be in charge of uh not incorrect um are you at all surprised that I'm having a lot of trouble accessing my tickets from the spirit no I'm not uh technology seems to flum EXC you uh every chance it gets and I'm not surprised at all back to the uh seven children at the soccer game who's driving I'll drive okay so you can't even drink I got to work that night I'm not GNA drink I got to go to the game that night um goodness gracious you're going to two different sporting events in one day damn right that's a lot I uh I my daughter's ninth birthday seemingly never ends this is now like the fifth time we've celebrated this which is great it's tremendous um but yeah dude so uh is that this one no that's the little one that's the little one she turned six in January um but yeah dude it's gonna be a lot it's gonna be a lot and like soccer games at noon I know they're 90 minutes how long's the soccer game go two hours yeah like 2:15 uh they they started uh adding extreme amounts of stoppage time which is quite annoying what what should I expect what is the typical halftime entertainment at a at a Washington spirit game I'm G be honest I've uh I've never been so I can't tell you there um has heavy metal Chris ever been to a Washington spirit game I have not no I have covered a Washington Spirit practice they practice at Georgetown and we did a story on Trinity Rodman for NBC 4 um and they were very nice and very good at soccer uh but this will be my first game there I've been to games at Audi field I've been to a Defenders game I've been to multiple DC United games uh the parking at Audi field God awful so I think my plan tell me what you guys think about this plan is drop the kids over there and then just come Park here and then walk back over there so you're going to stick your wife watching six children alone how much help am I really it it's I that's fair to to bring it all the way back to Jan doson did they give up a weapon how much better or worse off are they now I don't know every day we make bets is your wife getting a third round draft pick do we have any idea what anybody did uh absolutely we didn't make bets yesterday because there was some news uh and there was a Nats game so we didn't make bets but I do have the official uh standings for the week if you want to hear them I do uh so first place was uh was me really yep I came in first I was uh I was 3 and 0 I do not believe you I was I was 3 and0 um and actually in second place was beitch he was uh two and uh two he hadit a parlay uh third place was JP uh JP was one and two D did Jeff go ofer and Jeff did go ofer he was in fourth but he didn't actually come in last uh Ryan the stallion came in last when he betrayed us Ryan the stallion on uh he's on the list now and we've alerted Brian uh Brian not happy I think based on the text Brian is is it fair to say he's not happy with with today's transgressions he's not pleased he's not pleased he's in California with his new with his granddaughter and still mad at the stallion he's stuck in a metal box hurling across the sky just being angry at Ryan I wonder if he's there by now who knows who knows he's able to text I know that much thank you to everybody that listened to the program today thank you to everybody that called in it was a really fun show today honestly thank to a lot of great calls listen if you're mad about the trade you have a right to be I wouldn't be but you have a right to it um thank you to Craig hoffin for joining us thank you to Steve palazolo for joining us thank you to the rooster for sitting in for a few minutes no thank you to Ryan the stallion thank you to heavy metal Chris thank you to heavy metal Chris kind of he got food we didn't he was he was useful though I think you know what I'm gonna do I want people to unfollow Ryan the stallia whatever his Twitter handle is unfollow him send him a reminder about how much money he wasted on that Corbin Jersey and then unfollow him happy birthday to Danny R Granton Danny up next big news for the Nets calling up Dylan Cruz I'm sure those guys will be all over it uh Sunday night preseason game watch us Channel 4 made this far beer e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e and it's Danny's birthday yay happy birthday dude thank you Bing 45 years old gross we celebrated with the Italian store Subs we sure did and a slice of pizza a side of the Sicilian pizza you can get a lot of pizza a lot of places I like Italian stores Pizza quite a bit myself if I do say so but went off the beaten path a little bit there's Sicilian not quite a um not quite a Chicago style full-on deep dish it's like that Detroit style Square I think they do an excellent job of that and it's a delicious side anything can be a side if you will it so well Pizza can be a side side of pizza it was perfect you dialed up the right play we scored a touchdown with the lunch order for Danny rouer's birthday welcome in to the program got a good one planned for you Santana Moss is on the show coming up in 1 hour at 3:00 we've got tickets we'll give away at 4: ahead of the Beltway Blitz to go see Jason Al you got to be listening at that time but a couple of things to get you right off the top including the breaking news within the last half hour on the baseball front what a scene Monday night could be at Nationals Park for the first time Dylan Cruz and James Wood will be in the Nationals major league lineup together and Juan stto and the Yankees are going to be in town how about it you can't write a better script than that now they didn't get Cruise in the sto deal but they got cruise by trading stto and being terrible by Design is part of the rebuild and for the first time James Wood the centerpiece the Lynch pin of the Juan Soto package that came back and stto will be in the same ballpark and then you add Dylan Cruz to that and it could be a pretty magical evening at Nationals Park but he's the number one Prospect in the organization he's an unequivocal top five Prospect in the game Cruz was the number two overall pick out of LSU where he got on base on all 51 games in his final year of college helping leading Paul SK and the Tigers to the College World Series and after a productive a solid not dominant but a good run in the minor leagues this year where he showed off speed 25 bags where he was exceptional in the Outfield defensively he can play center field well where he hits for power he's got four homers in his last 11 games closing in on 15 for the season at the minor he's done enough he's impressed them enough it's time to let Dylan Cruz debut and according to our sources here at 1067 the fan Monday night will be the night two different stops in the minor leagues double A and Triple A it's almost Eerie how similar his stats are at the two levels this tells me a big story about Dylan Cruz to your point it's like somebody throwing darts and trying to hit two bullseyes and getting really really close two different levels 274 343 on base percentage 789 op Ops 271 343 on base percentage 807 Ops that was able a and AAA respectively so what it tells you is each level has not been too much for him there's an initial adjustment period that takes place this is how he was in college then you know as he progress to the golden spikes winner Player of the Year type stuff it's what he's done at every minor league stop as well he adjusts gets comfortable and starts to rise to the top and he's doing that right now I don't expect him to do what James Wood has done where you walk into the major leagues and look like you are a seven-year veteran that's just signed a $40 million a year deal uh because that's freakish and rare and impossible he'll go through it up and down a little bit but nothing bothers that dude he is unflappable he is a he look he looks like he was born to be a major leager you know what I mean just the way he carries himself the tools you mentioned some of the skill set He he'll be able to do a little bit of everything I'm excited about it man it it is your out of town preview in town right it's your look at the lineup look who's going to be going you got CJ you'll have James Wood now you'll have Dylan Cruz other guys from that trade are on the way maybe taking a little bit longer than those but that group of that big group of three right there hard to ignore man it's really cool he is right now in my opinion as a big leager a 20 Homer 30 steel kind of player which isn't nothing no I mean the comp I've had for him all along there's a few different guys you could look to but you know Brian Reynolds of the Pittsburgh Pirates like that's a player not an MVP type player by any means I don't think Dylan Cruz is a guy that's going to win MVP awards but Brian Reynolds is a multi-time All-Star who pretty consistently year in and year out strings together a 280 to 300 average know he's been in 260s 270s occasionally but his career 280 hitter who's got an 825 career Ops who goes out there and hits 20 to 25 maybe 27 home runs and in the case of Dylan Cruz I would add stolen bases to that but that's kind of the type of player I see Dylan Cruz as it's going to be a you know really good major leager the guy that could win the MVP awards ultimately in my opinion is still James Wood he's the Superstar but they got some decisions to make and over time they'll have to figure out do they want Cruz to play center field he's more valuable in my opinion in center field you know he 20 home or 30 steel season as a center fielder is a much bigger deal than it would be in right field I think he's good enough defensively to play above average Center we've seen it in the minor leagues those of us that track those games and watch those games on TV Jacob Young's a platinum glove player though love JY there's probably not a better defensive center fielder in baseball this year and the numbers bear that out so immediately this season for sure it'll be wooden left young in Center Cruz in right what they're going to have to kick around this offseason and figure out is do they eventually want to move Cruz to Center and go get a bad it's a bunch of home runs to improve their offense like an Anthony santand there type to play right field from Baltimore or do you you go defense up the middle play JY there let your kids play the corners with wood who's 21 Cruz who's 22 grow into their own not ask for them to play the middle of the Outfield where both of them were very good at times in the minor leagues and Cruz has recently been excellent I think that's the big question for me long term but I think you make a good point like whereas wood was so dominant at Triple A that every single night he was putting together two hits and an extra base hit and three exit velocities over 100 know walking a ton you just knew when he came up he had a chance to thrive Cruz it's been much more on easy there's more ofers it's it's more of a 265 than a 330 like like wood was so I think the results are going to follow it's going to be up and down a little bit but he's the kind of guy having had the college background he did at LSU Danny y he's not going to crawl into the fetal position when he goes one for 15 no the the makeup is plus as they say um and again what he's done at every level is struggle at the start then figure it out and he'll do that here so you know there'll be some speed bumps and some ups and downs as you kind of said but this is I love this the timing is really really cool uh here at the end of August before September when you know in in in Tradition you'd find that like you know let's empty the minor league system and everybody comes up and everyone gets a cup of coffee and you know you get to hit white balls for batting practice that time this is a little bit before that so it just it feels pretty neat more sizable significant game now that you're playing uh the Yankees and sto and Company at home it's hard to ignore the symbolism there but the comp I've always had for for Dylan Cruz more for old heads and they're different players Moler was an infielder but Paul Moler same size that you know you don't look at him and go oh there's a dude that's going to blast the ball 450 ft but it's the quick hands it's a real good knowledge of the Zone sharp quick pretty good athlete um uh there again if he's has Paul Muller's career I think well certainly take that as a Hall of Famer but I don't know that that's exactly where it is but that's bodywise and the way he swings has always kind of reminded me of that remember and now it's funny that about a week ago I told you my daughter got upset at me that I was wearing my cruise wood 24 t-shirt too much that's taking on a new meaning that little story huh uh this might be a decent time to remind everybody that the 1067 the fan merch Shop is open and you can celebrate the call up of James Wood still and the expected call up of Dylan Cruz again the report we've got for you here on the fan is that the team is anticipating calling him up on Monday night that he will make his major league debut against the Yankees Juan sto's back in DC and Cruz and wood will be in the lineup together for the first time should be an awesome scene but we've got those Cruise wood 24 shirts available at the 1067 the fan merch store you can get yours now at 1067 the fanshop.com more on Dylan Cruz in just a bit the other big news of the day in DC Sports is that it is now official like the crw expectation of knowing eventually he'd call get called up we now know it's happening jayen Daniels is not going to play on Sunday night y this was the worst kept secret probably in commanders Ville over the last few days because it became pretty clear after they named him the starter that they weren't going to play him in this preseason finale but for the first time finally on Friday here Dan Quinn went public and said that Jaden Daniels preseason is over will qb1 play on on Sunday he will not Batman thank you yes thank you very Batman I didn't quite get that part I'm what I'm to chose first time I've actually heard that play that again I had not heard the Batman I'm gonna choose to take away the Jaden danels not playing part and just kind of blow right past that if that's fine will qb1 play on Sunday he will not Batman thank you yes thank you very much um there's a lot happening there so we're not calling Jaden Daniels Dan Jaden Daniels we're calling him qb1 Jaden Daniel guy chick Hernandez by the way Channel N9 we should throw that out there and then there's a Batman there's a Batman impression chick where are you you you got to go where is she if you're going to do a Batman impression that that's that's what you got to do if Dan Quinn's gonna go full Batman on you which by the way is is Batman like a is the in the comics is that like a captain obvious thing like of course Batman it's a throwback to the old timy you know Adam West Batman show like back in the day like what did they used to say like yeah holy holy obvious conclusion Batman like that is Robin used to do that bit Yeah so I I don't know I didn't know if chick was Batman or if Jaden Daniels was Batman I don't know who Batman was who's Batman man thank you yes thank you very much um that's not actually that's actually the more I listen to it chick's not a bad Batman impression there but I need a where is she that's what I'm looking for man thank you yes thank you very much um it's not terrible off the cuff yeah but again I don't I don't you're over it I think no I'm just I'm I'm too confused and I have too many questions but I but I know we gota birday whatever you want man Jane J ain't playing on Sunday right that we knew that made a lot of sense that is the net net that's your takeaway that's you're stolen Cold Steve auser bottom line so I'm gonna I'm gonna give you my thought on what I would do nobody cares about that and then I'll get I care about that I interested it's my birthday tell what I would do is play Jaden Daniels in the third preseason game because I use football games to get ready for football I don't think I would play every starter but I would play the starting offensive line and Jaden Daniels for a quarter or so that's what I would do it was pretty clear they were not going to do that and I understand that twoo they feel like he got enough work he played a total of three drives God forbid you ask him to play Four in 2024 we know how this goes it's not just the commanders by the way I'm not joning on them they're they are doing what the league does players have paid a lot of money these guys health is really all that matters to the team I understand that they decide the juice is not worth to squeeze so it's a little a little bit Antiquated for me and a little bit football Cowboy of me to want more constantly in the preseason I mean do you realize Don Payne John Allen and Bobby Wagner did not play a single down in the preseason I realized that now Bobby Wagner's been in this defense Allen in pain of not they obviously had a lot of practice work they had the the practices against the Jets and the Dolphins that were scrimmage like but Daniels is done would you have played him at all in this game no I again I I count as other deposits the The Joint practices where you actually got a lot of significant work and that's the trend line um to me it and here's my little bit of antiquated thinking um if I'm gonna play Jaden Daniels it means I've got to play my entire starting offensive line for as long as he's in there uh I need to play all of his best weapons because there aren't as many on the outside uh these days which we'll get to uh as we go so it means I got to play tan mclen I probably don't want to do that it means I want to I have to give Brian Robinson more work I don't want to do that Eckler I don't want to do that I would have I would probably try to get some time on the grass with Zack Herz who you haven't really had much of so in Li of doing that I will say you know we we put enough work now the other thing I do differently just so this doesn't get lost is when we were [ __ ] footing around in the beginning where he was splitting reps with uh with Marcus Mariota I don't do that see because I got in all my work if Danny's in charge I got extra work extra practices extra uh first team reps all these weeks and months I didn't sacrifice some of those out of some weird fax competition that wasn't real so then I can go I did put enough work I'm not playing you my last preseason game which I totally get yeah I I don't think a couple of drives or a quarter or two is going to make all the difference in the world or all of a sudden now you weren't ready and you are in some binary or you would have played badly in week one and now you're going to play great I just think there's a limited number of chances to feel as good as possible about what you're going to be doing against the Bucks and the amount of reps if you want to call them that in practice mental or physical the amount of time on the ground just the the amount of prep that you get is less than it's ever been before so to not take advantage of one of those golden opportunities as a potential dress rehearsal just isn't how I would do it but the entire league almost to a club has gone away from that even the teams that are mostly going to be playing guys this weekend didn't play them in all three games some teams have like the Patriots as a good example that's a bad team with a new head coach which I guess you could say explains Washington's know last calendar year or whatever as well they're going to play jacobe brassette their starting quarterback for the third time in three preseason games he didn't play as much as Jaden Daniels in the second one but he's going to play in the third preseason game Drake May who's not a starter will play in his third straight preseason game it was drafted after Daniels is Caleb Williams going to play three times I would doubt it so I get that this is the standard operating procedure I don't think there's anything wrong with this it's also exactly what was expected there's no reason to make a big deal of it Daniels has put in a lot of work and has looked very good next stop Tampa Bay and he'll be fully healthy you don't have to worry about that he'll be 100% ready to go it'll be on the field against the Bucks two things by the way next stop Tampa Bay holy crap like yep well I got a text here we are from somebody last night actually talking about a the Monday night game in Cincinnati which is on my mom's birthday September 23rd it's one month from today that's the third game of the season or what whatever maybe it's the second game I think week three right so like think about just that like yeah we're a month away from that wait I'm sorry say that again say that again one more time so a month from now they're going to have a record with three numbers that's where we are now that's just exciting yeah that's hard not to really be fired up about and you know this last dress rehearsal where it's guys that are fighting for spots or fighting for playing time fighting for rosters whatever um are going to get a look and the Intrigue to me is what New England does at the quarterback spot I think I heard jacobe Brett's gonna start you assume you're gonna see uh multiple guys including the person drafted right after Jadon Daniels but I haven't seen any confirmation there but you one would assume is they still have stuff to work out and they're in a different spot than Washington is but in in terms of the way I would handle the preseason and training camp and everything kind of in general to me I I try to control as much of it as I can I I'm I have the ghosts of Clinton poris missing the whole season uh of John Jansen breaking an ankle some of those things influence me to to the point where I go I just can't just Trot him out there and see what happens for stuff that no one's going to remember except for Larry Michael when he goes over preseason records to talk about intangibles or something years ago on their propaganda shows that to me is I I just juice is not worth the squeeze at that point again Ro all kind of colored buyer experiences how would you grade Jaden daniels's preseason and I don't just mean preseason by the two preseason games training camp should be taken into account I think everything that's led up to now past being prologue all of the draft to this moment content information we have on Daniels throw it into the stew what grade do you give him on his prep for the regular season that we've seen 800 636 1067 is the number let's open up the MGM National Harbor listener lines on this next 80063 61067 you want to hop in I'm Grant Danny's the birthday boy this is the fan e e e e e e e e e e e e e on the fan welcome back and thank you for listening to our program as always we told right off the top today that the Nationals are calling up Dylan Cruz their number one Prospect for Monday night's game according to 1067 the fan sourcing one night Nationals Park sto for the Yankees Cru and wood in the lineup for the Nationals going to be a blast all of our baseball coverage on the fan by the way is presented by T-Mobile switch to T-Mobile you can get tons of benefits and still save on every plan against ATM and Verizon use their savings calculator to find out how at t-mobile.com switch more on the Nats in just a bit we have been talking though as well about the news today that Jaden Daniels officially will not play on Sunday's preseason finale now Dan Quinn didn't go into any more detail or expound upon who else wasn't gonna play but it goes without saying Danny if Jaden Daniels is not playing almost everyone who matters and starts will not play yeah you wouldn't you wouldn't think you'd see your established veterans there there aren't a ton on this roster that have been here for a while but you start to add it up some of the new guys you're probably not going to see Allen Payne McClaren Wagner louu uh you know even some of the other starters now that have kind of been getting in some pretty good work here this uh this summer and Beyond and and the St juice of the world or uh you know certainly wouldn't expect to see Zack hers or or otherwise so I think you're going to be down quote unquote a bunch of starters or regular contributors do you think the young guys that are starters but still not proven play at all like a Benjamin St ju Emanuel Forbes those types of guys because you cannot convince me they don't need the work so here's where here's where I'm going to go how do I say I'm trying to think of that formulate the way I'm going to say this I think if they know proven or otherwise that you're going to be counted on right away and not working your way in you're G to be out this weekend then they're out those your starting boundary Corners I think Forbes will still might be in there because I think he's battling out with you know the the the who whomever else whether it's Michael Davis or um or some of the other guys for for playing time I don't know that they know there I think they know about St JW however good you think he is that's their starter on one side probably what I'm fascinated by in the wake of the Jan doson deal yesterday is now the wide receiver competition at the back of the roster where if I had to put a bet in on who makes it as the fifth and sixth receiver I would just roll with the veterans of Jameson Crowder and Byron Pringle and it just be an UL ultimately like a redundant receiving room bunch of guys like Jameson Crowder that are older filling out the back of the depth chart I'd like it to be a Bryson Tain who's 6'4 and athletic and can make leaping catches and looked awesome on special teams I would keep him in a second over Byron Pringle I'd probably keep him over Jameson Crowder if I have a Return Man on my roster I feel good about you you could convince me that somebody like Martavis Bryant now at 6'4 could make the roster if he's shown them anything in practice we only saw him targeted down the field to once and a pass was broken up in his preseason debut against the Dolphins but I would think he's going to play a ton that's what I'm fired up about the receiving room behind McLaren dami Brown alamad zakus starting with Luke mcaffrey Bryson Tain on down this game is all about that group and probably at least two if not three spots up for grabs just s of doing quick you know some quick back of the napkin math right I I so here's my theory that I'm working on I don't know if I've got this right or not this is not based on anything I think Jameson Crowder is gonna make this team and I think Jameson Crowder is their punt returner I don't think they've shown that yet but I think that's what's gonna happen I almost view him as alamin zaki's backup right so in other words you're you'll be limited to slot Duty maybe if somebody needs a a quick rest on the outside we'll do that but for the most part I think he's almost your backup slot receiver and number one punt returner because I think they view zakus maybe's a bit more important than to have him go back there a bunch of times so I think that's what's gonna happen there so now of a sudden there's five that you know about mclen Brown zakus Luke mcaffry Jameson Crowder that sixth spot to your point if if it is six maybe it's seven although I think you're going to run into a number crunch elsewhere it would be seven more likely if they didn't have a return man in the six or in the five and if you're saying Crowder is the Return Man then now seventh makes less sense I agreed so that's six as you said Caz Allen although we're calling him a running back now kind of basically in the running back room but it's Mitchell Tinsley it's Bryon taine it's Martavis Bryant it's Byron Pringle I mean to me traine is the easy choice but again I I don't they they don't think the way that we do I go I don't have I don't have anybody like that I have there's nobody that that is that is his size looks like him that's that big and physical I need somebody like that and I'm more interested in the unknown there than I am with all due respect to I've seen Byron Pringle I have seen uh you know Martavis Bryant over the course of the years in the league that's not intriguing that's not sexy that's now for them they see these guys every day and they don't care about the unknown they're not as they're not as into development at this point they're trying to do something here in ter terms of building culture and uh building something going forward but for me traine is way more intriguing than those other guys you mentioned C Allen I want to go back to him quickly before we hit on Daniels it may not matter what position he gets listed at running back or receiver football board seventh receiver fourth running back who cares like if if there are six receivers and three backs and they feel like they could have 10 at the two positions combined then Caz Allen could be the 10th guy potentially and I say that because it's very obvious they really really like him I was tweeting about this during the last preseason game but when you start using a guy at a different position and involving him to the extent that they did giving him those carries when you are designing screens for him in these preseason games it's obvious they're trying to see what he does you're not doing that because you don't like someone you're not featuring someone they have him returning kicks and punts they have him at running back they have him at receiver they like him then he fumbles and instead of being in the dogghouse he's right back on the field in practice he's right back involved they are trying to give him every opportunity to get a roster spot at the least to be on this practice squad again but it's obvious and they've talked about this now publicly Kingsbury yesterday we've seen it though whenever they've been asked about him they think he is a multiple versatile explosive player they're quick to say he's not Deo Samuel obviously by the way stand them next to each other yeah they make they make one of that guy it's it's like a DeVito Arnold thing from twins right they look nothing alike but the point is there aren't that many guys that can do a little bit of everything as a gadget guy and I don't know how well he does everything he might do everything not that well we're going to find that out but I think they like his versatility his explosiveness on a roster where there's just not a lot of that on offense and so that's why they're intrigued by him let's get to Daniels for a moment question when we went to break and we asked you guys this and we'll hit the phones on this they're wide open at 800 636 1067 if you want to hop in right now what would you grade Daniels since the day he was drafted and then if it's a different grade just the two preseason games a minus for me the only negative was that entire weird I either texted or faxed or screencapped or did something where I sent another player even though he's my very good friend something that we were doing in practice I I need you to not do that I need my starting quarterback who I love this didn't change that I loved him loved him before during and after I'm a huge fan that's a no that's the good learning experience it could have been a lot worse giving away State Secrets like that there's no reason to do that I think we learned our lesson there of course it hasn't happen again and we move on but that was the only kind of laps in judgment and if that's all we get from uh you know a young guy that's gonna hopefully leave the franchise for a long long long time that'll be a funny anecdote we tell you know what I mean like 10 years from now you remember that time that Jay Daniel T in his budy brand auk and they were on FaceTime talking about Washington's offense ha we all had to shared a good laugh about it later that's the only blemish to me everything else I I feel like I'm going if I had a daughter please date her you know like this this is the thing that I have wanted for some time it's not the Superstar when the lights come on it's not the the the working out for Instagram it's doing what you're supposed to do because supposed to do it going above and beyond checking everything that you can do you know checking every box that you can check to try to be the best you can you may not be but I'll go down that way rather than some of the part-time show you know effort for Show versus the real nose of the grindstone effort yeah I'll give him an A+ in the two preseason games based on executing what they asked him to execute the degree of difficulty was low that's not his problem that's not his job all he could do is you want me to throw a screen I'll throw a screen he had one bad pass that I can remember legitimately I mean there were other incompletions like he had an incompletion that was wide of Jan doson and what'll be maybe dodson's final Target in Washington on a quick out route in the second preseason game that wasn't a good pass but the one pass that was like o was the first one he ever through was over top of Austin Eckler on the little running back screen 800 milph Target yeah targeted 96 on the out little high and wide there shot out of a cannon right but for the most part I mean he batted like 995 with accuracy ball placement decisionmaking and yeah you you aced an easy quiz it was the quiz you were given he aced it so I'll give him an A+ on the preseason kept the ball out of Harm's Way got it predetermined pre- snapped to the right guy think a lot of things were easy they're going to get harder but he crushed it for the entire offseason I give him an a as well because there have only been a couple times like like the the picture that you referenced where anything happened that was not completely the way you draw it up in Central Casting and when it's 72 and sunny so the excitement level should be high people should be very very hopeful about this quarterback but we just got to see it man we're in a medium where we talk all day long about everything that's going on in the moment and we as many different ways as possible over 4 and a half hours peel back different layers on the people that you got find the most interesting and the most pressing angles about those individuals in DC Sports that's the medium but to an extent times just got to elapse and we got to get to a point where we can watch him in a real game play real football because the rest of the stuff now that the hay is in the barn M doesn't mean there's not other ways to to discuss excitement and to gauge interest and to try to get a feel for how fired up people are but it became pretty obvious early in the preseason they're not going to ask him to do a lot of the things that we need to see him do to figure out how good he's going to be until the real bullets are flying in September so bring on September indeed yeah let's get that calendar turned I think it's I think it's well put the my for my own edification this is for me fan Danny ruer watching at home I want to see all the things just because I want to see them you know when when you you get the brand new sports car but there's there's construction at the end of your little residential stre street so you can't go out on the highway you can't go 105 right now you you could drive to the end of the block and bring it back and you still get some really cool stuff and the the speedometer goes up to 180 you know you that sounds really neat that cool I can't do that yet I got to go uh 20 and go over a speed hump bring it back to the driveway and you can look at it and it's really really nice but you have to wait until that construction's done is a speed hump the same as a speed bump yeah I don't know when I started calling them speed humps do you really call them that not every time but I have called them speed humps I've never heard that before do you have to do anything when you go over a speed hump like yourself or do you just sit there great question uh yeah it seems like there's a WS world you go back to the champagne room and you can't touch is that what you're talking about I don't know it's just you you just bounce up but do you just sit in your seat or what am I supposed to do with my hands I you don't think you do anything think you just kind of ride it out the hump yeah the hump the speed hump speed hump okay Bron D thank you Santana Moss is on the show at 3:00 right at the top of the hour and 20 minutes he was a big jandson guy weren't we all what does he make of the trade and of this wide receiver room we can go down through the list of wide outs he's been watching off and on at practice this summer and get his take uh we will do that as we continue on g& D on the fan e e e e e e e e e e e e Danny I'm sure you've heard this thing that the kids say now I was today years old when I oh they love that bit Yeah I was today years old when I learned speed bumps and speed humps are both real things I thought I was going crazy cuz I realized when when you rightly called that out cuz I called something a speed H hump I just never heard it my little Soliloquy and I'm like I know I've seen that somewhere I've been saying speed hump lately and it's because it's true there are speed humps all over the place where close to where we are in Norland Virginia uh the on the roads so your speed bump is your parking lot your yellow you got to be going like three or four miles an hour I feel like those are super tall yeah they're taller taller they're yellow if you go over them fast you're bottoming out it's like like you hear it it HS really hard the speed hump you can hit it about 15 that's probably your max you probably want to be about 10 to 12 here's what I'm going to say yeah longer longer less girth mhm right so wider too somehow also yes you know what I mean not as tall right but like where they start and where they stop is definitely a wider they're still both good I me they're still both good and deserve happiness you know what I mean yes yeah it's about the motion of the speed bum right I thought you were just saying the wrong word not even that you were wrong I thought you just said it differently like some families some people I'll give you an example I've never heard this before but this is a real thing that a lot of people say so when you hear something that makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up you get goosebumps right there are people who say chill bumps no they're not that's not true 100% they're not they're not chill bumps no you've never heard of that no well I I definitely have where do they say that I think they're in the South the when I initially heard it it was definitely a thing where people like with an accent typically you know when I first heard it this is actually a w wacky story that makes no sense so years ago I was doing my a baseball show on SiriusXM and I found this hilarious clip of these two kids calling Henry aon's record-breaking home run to move ahead of Babe Ruth it was home run number 716 715 75 yeah I don't know if it was the that for it must have been his recordbreaker 715 and anyway in their call they said he's got chill bumps I still remember it and I'm like what in the hell did this say chill bump and then I looked it up and sure enough it's another way to say Goosebumps so that's I didn't mean to blow your mind but yeah I wasn't ready for that when you went speed hump speed hump I thought that was your speed bump oh like the rues call them speed humps yeah like the like the southern side of my family is like I I was going a little too fast over that speed hump so I'm pulling it up here Goosebumps Goosebumps also known as chill bumps come on that's what it says also known as are bumps skin that occur when tiny muscles in the hair follicles contract and pull that hair up tight show bumps oh well now I'm not going to be chill bumps anytime soon I don't know that I could it just sounds weird to me like I heard of Dylan Cruz is going to the show I got chill bumps no wrong I do kind of have Goosebumps about that I'm excited about that but I don't have any chill bumps that do you think it's a strategic play in any way yes do you know where I'm going with this to have Dylan Cruz come up against the Yankees yeah essentially uhhuh do you think Juan stto is back for the first time uhhuh as a Yankee he's been back with the Padre's obviously but it's the first time they've been far enough along in the rebuild where he's going to be in the ballpark and he sees MVP caliber star James Wood playing in left and now he's going to see Dylan Cruz who could play center and a hypothetical where wano who's a free agent this off season could sign back in Washington to play right field this could be a Mike Rizzo taking off his tie unbuttoning his you know uh sleeves and saying hey Juan he's could be the two guys you play with in the outfield for the next 12 years to to end your career if you want to you buying it at all here's the thing I don't necessarily buy that that's what's going to seal the deal you don't think it's a commercial for how far along they are and how close they are with star power because here's Here's my thought on it the Yankees are in town and huge Yankee fans like Ryan are goingon to go to the game anyhow yeah Ryan already has ticket shocker he and his roommate you know has not been to Nats Park in three months he'll be there for the Yankee series twice but like he's all about the Yankees he's like like do vulpe and like yelling at me about Oswaldo Cabrera um you so you could have sold more tickets to the Colorado series was Dylan Cruz he wouldn't be ready on Thursday but he had to be ready on Monday I don't know about that this it it feels purposeful I I think he would have been called up on Monday if they were playing the Yankees or Boston or the Rockies or the Diamondbacks my understanding has been all along after they got to a certain point they then wanted to make sure he was not going to get enough at bats to away Rookie of the Year possibility Los rookie status next year because if he were to win the Rookie of the Year award next year they could get a draft pick as compensation as a reward for that so that's part of it one of the things that they also said about James Wood when they called him up was that they wanted him to get about 200 at bats at Triple A which I'd never heard them talk about before but they said that with James Wood and I don't think it's a coincidence Dylan Cruz surpassed the 200 at bat mark this week which is when I kind of started going okay well they've mentioned this 200 at bat thing now we're here he can't get past the Rookie of the Year status what else would you be waiting for to call him up at this point John's in Centerville on Granton Danny what's up John hey John what's up guys how you doing Happy Birthday Danny thank you B uh just want to say Goosebumps and chill bumps also called Goose pimples I've heard that goose pimples yeah I heard that that's disgusting that's terrible did you ever read those RL Stein books I think it was called uh chill bumps yeah the scary one they ACC forid yeah when you were a kid you like sixth grade you could just read through them had a big font chill bumps chill bumps was a good you know you drive the one guys driving home and T he's flash flashing the bright lights at him from behind and he's like what's this guy's deal and it turns out there was someone in the back seat you know chill bumps definitely Santana Moss joins us next longtime receiver here in DC what does he make of the Jan doson deal we will hear from him at four o'clock we've got tickets to Jason Aline only on Grant and Danny e e e e e e e e e e e e e e firing Jan doson for third round pick 4:00 we've got those be able to say we've gotten to know tana and consider him a friend of the show and he joins us now on the betql guest hotline Santana thanks for a few minutes man how you been always good buddy how you doing man doing very well appreciate you hopping aboard so a lot of different things we want to ask you about the receiver room right now let's just start with the trade of Jan doson were you surprised that they moved on from him just a couple years after he really showed well as a rookie yeah I'm going to be surprised man I think when it comes down to just seeing what he did his first year and then following up his second year probably wasn't the best we probably could have got out of him in second year but it was so much going on with that offense and them passing the ball as many times they that they did you know I I thought this year was going to be kind of that year to rewrite anything that he didn't do last year and really you know give us a reason to continue to love him because that first year man it was D he had a dynamic star to that year he got hurt and that kind of now leave us all to you know believe like that was probably one of the better years that he had and hopefully you know you know we could probably see him do something I hold on let me take that back I don't hope that he does nothing over there in Philly but I'm a good he was one of my good little buddies man so I'm wishing him him much much much success you know and hoping that he just have a clean B to health he can have success 15 games a year I think that's a good compromise Sana uh exactly there you go yeah what do you think what do you think went into the decision here's what I can't get past and I want your opinion on this as a guy that's been around the league so much for somebody to say I'm willing to take a third round pick in the in a coming year to move on from what John doson might do over the next three years plus a that another you know giving up a fifth round pick at at in as part of the deal that's basically saying you're betting against a lot of production I would say for for for somebody that was a first- round pick and and has enough uh you know has shown some pretty good moments here maybe not last year but overall what do you think went into the decision that's a great question man I think when it all balls down to it it it you know I'm looking at a lot of different scenarios I'm saying to myself okay if you look at he's going to his third year if he plays well we gotta sign him next year do we want to do that you understand that's one um um or if he just not the guy that we want right now he's not fitting where we want to put him that we don't really have a spot where we can really say it's it's home for him whether it's XZ or or in the slot do I do I risk having him go out here and have a good productive year you know because I I do believe that he can play good football do I risk having him you know having him on the team and he goes out there and play like like he played his first year now we don't have a chance to really deal him and get nothing for him you understand so I look at it like that man and and you know but when it all comes down to it this is a new staff yeah you know um they don't owe him anything he don't owe them much but to go out there and and be the guy that they want him to be and obviously he wasn't that guy so they went on ahead and dealed him and that's the only thing I could come up with that's the to me that's the conclusion I come up with he just wasn't a guy that fit their mode or fit the scheme that they fit in the scheme that they wanted to go out there and see out of their wide receivers Santana Moss is with us on Grant and Danny one of the things I heard yesterday and really even before that frankly from people around the building was that he's not as physical whether that's willing as a blocker catch Point whatever it is as they're looking for and that as they've harped on that it hasn't really changed and they see guys like zakus who's 5'8 or others that maybe are a little bit more urgent or physical let's say than datson was and it made them more of a fit I'm just curious to get your thoughts on that whether it's willingness as a blocker you know physicality at the catch point and what that means to you because you were also not a big guy you know datson may have been even I don't know you'd have to tell me maybe a hair bigger than you in terms of height yeah but should that be an expectation that he's a blocker a willing blocker that he cares to do that like what's your thought on all that yeah I'm right I think when you play this game regardless if you have the ball in your hand at the receiving position or you out there being a decoy or blocking for either the passer I mean I mean the uh the GU who running the football or one of your guys who's catching the ball you got to go out there and win that win that battle and I think if that's what's what something that was said about him then you can put up a couple times I've seen those slip screens and a guy dominating them you know or getting by them I don't I don't know if that was that that was particularly the reason why you know they didn't they didn't want to uh have him around but I just feel like one of the things about this game and people take it for granted that you think just because we catch catch the ball on the outside that's nothing else to our game you know I played with guys that was great past catchers who really wasn't into the blocking thing but they can get away with that and then you have some staffs and some some groups of coaches that don't don't tolerate that you have to be a complete player I grew up in a complete player kind of mindset because I was a guy also play defense so that's why when people kind of compare me to people I'm like well you could never compare me to a small receiver even though I was one of the smallest is because I was a guy that was toughest n because I was a quarterback at first you know so I I went through those those years of tackling and having to you know open field tackles and stuff like that so that's why it wasn't nothing for me to just be a receiver and take hits but you have to be tough man you have to be tough and and I hate to hear that from you because if you hear you heard it then it was said and you don't want that around hanging over your head as a receiver in this league because that would definitely get you out the door quick and I've been on teams trust me I've been on teams where I saw guys have that kind of notion about themselves and trust me they don't they don't last long but like I said before when you uh when you a guy that's so good at what you do on the outside then you may could go UNSC when it comes to you know playing but I don't think he did enough on the outside for them to let that go by so if that's something that they had you know question about man then I can easily see that being something being a reason that a coaching staff don't want you around Santan Moss with us here on g& D you mentioned being on the outside Santana you were so prolific uh you know through through a huge chunk of your career even here in Washington and then kind of made that move into the slot I think something similar was going on here with doson help folks understand educate us a little bit here on on what really goes into that a lot of folks are just going ah you're running routes just a little bit closer but there's a lot more to it than that and you thrived obiously in both roles what what was he going through in terms of those changes going from outside to maybe more primary slot well honestly I don't know what he was going through let me clear that up first uh I don't I don't really know but I would I was hoping that when we came down to the 53 man roster that I was going to see doson with that kind of a row in the inside more so than the outside you know I I saw him play you know enough football to say that he had enough game especially in his route running ability that I would have loved to see him be able to take on that road in a slot because I know he's very Shifty he knows how to you know work his stems and when you have that much room in the inside and with a little bit of speed you you can beat anybody you know what I mean now one of the things about playing on the outside which what you just you know alluded to me playing um most of my year when I came into this game that's where they was already trying to put me at in the inside they were saying more more so guys of my my statue don't make it on the outside and me and guys like Steve Smith and some other guys you know um was able to prove them wrong because like I said before it was just we was just beast at what we did I guess you can say you know I mean let me Pat myself on the back a little bit call myself one of them but no honestly man But You Gotta Be You got to have that kind of mentality man you know one of the things about this game believe it or not man you know you take it lightly and say they are receivers they don't get hit you got to have some you know what big kahunas bro to be out there and when you're on the outside it's the sideline that defender in you what you gonna do so if you half of the time you got to beat that guy and if they gonna be physical which I played I played in the physical era you have to be just as physical you have to be a guy that if you don't like using your hands you got to use your hand so you know I really don't know what it was primarily but I was hoping that because I didn't see a lot of success out there on the outside when I did see him have those match ups I was hoping that he can easily transition into the slot you know I don't feel like I transitioned I feel like the slot was my first you know that's where I kind of got my first start at in college I was a slot receiver that then the next year when I became a starting starting receiver I played both Z and the inside when I got to the pros I just knew I was going in the slot and I played my first 10 years on the outside I didn't play I didn't play the slot position until Shanahan you know came to me and I was in year 10 year 11 12 so uh it should be easy to go inside I'm thinking that's what they're going to do with him in Philly because they got two studs over there on the outside man if you can put Dawson amongst those guys and don't have to really you know ask much of him you know I hate to say it I think he'll have a better outing out there with those guys because he don't have to probably be used as much you know and I think over here with us we was trying to really get that first round pick out of them you know you got to be a primary guy and if you can't be that primary guy then I don't see fit for you on this team Sana moss on Grant and Danny talking wide receivers we'll get to the rest of the room in a moment wrapping up our Jan doson conversation after he was traded in the division to the Philadelphia Eagles correct me where I'm wrong here Santana just kind of Coach me up on my philosophy on this I don't ever really think that that the argument someone struggles to beat press coverage should be a deal breaker because I think you can coach them into free releases like use Stacks use bunch move guys around get them in motion use the Mike McDaniel Miami Dolphins cheat motion if you need to why is that a good excuse and I'm not saying that's the sole reason that doson fell out of favor whatever but you hear that with receivers generally like I don't know if he can beat press I don't know if he can play him outside what am I missing there what you're missing is if we spending all this money for you to U be on this team as a receiver you should be able to do something that's to me that's wide receiv receiver one-onone that's like the easy thing you should be able to do when you playing a wide receiver position and that's one of the reasons why people not going to change their offense for you because you can't be you know pressed now like I said before there are certain guys that you're willing to do that for that because those guys have something exceptional you know that most guys don't have so you might say hey you know what I'm gonna bend a little bit and find ways to get this guy going but like I said before when you come in with that ticket meaning that lottery ticket and even though it's not really the lottery but anybody in the first round considered a lottery guy you know in our eyes when you come in with that kind of price tag teams ain't waiting on you they want to see it now you know and like I said before you would have H that you know he had though that opportunity to to to have that that time to grow because I really think he G to have I thought he was going to have a good year this year just seeing some of the things I saw but that just goes to show you man when you have other guys that's fighting for that same job and the coaching staff is the kind of coaching staff that we have hey they not here to be you know favoring nobody they they want to see who they have and they said it from day one if you don't fit what we trying to do then you won't be here and I guess that's what we can say you know when you look at this situation here sany mentioned who they have we know Teran McClaren after that I don't know I I don't know how it's gonna look we've seen domy brown have good games but hasn't put together season zakus had you know has been a a nice third fourth option on some teams within the last handful of years Luke mcaffry promised a rookie Jameson Crowder is in his 30s I I don't know how the depth chart's going to look outside of Teran McClaren how do you see it how do you see this group and and who do you think kind of wins some of these roles here I think we both would be waiting to see it I'm honestly yeah I think I think that's a good that's a good point you're making we really don't know but obviously these coaches have seen enough of the guys they have around and who knows man I leave that door wide open for something down the road you know I I'm I'm one of those guys I'm I'm very optimistic about you know any and everything and and until the fat lady s until it's said and done then I'm going to leave that door open and maybe we might can you know stretch our arms we got the money you know what I'm saying you know how they got this little mean you know Instagram thing give me my money we got the money so somebody out there calling for some money if we wanna if we want to spread our wings and give somebody some money I know a couple of receivers that may you know be more than happy to uh you know partake in that trade so who who knows man I'm just you know I'm having fun with it a little bit just talking but um I do believe that this staff has been doing their due diligence enough to know that hey you know we trust in something that we seeing from some of these other guys uh especially with guys like you know the kids coming over playing the way he's played um being a guy that's playing this league for what five or six years now having one of those slot roads who knows he might be a guy that they lean on to play that slot area dami Brown we've been waiting for him to you know surface and I think sometime people kind of you know don't understand that this league is nothing that you can just take for granted you have to really come in and let the game slow down for you sometime and a lot of times they don't give you time to do that well fortunately for him this is year four and it seems to from what I'm just seeing from preseason games that things are slowing down for diami so I would hope that he be the he's one of those guys that take advantage of that role and then you got a guy like Luke mcaffrey we know the tree he comes from you know what I mean so when you got a guy that's out there making the plays that I saw him make a week ago as a rookie that's that's not a lot of room and then you got a guy and Jamon Crowder I mean Jameson Crowder he's a veteran that can go out there and we know we can get production from him in the slot we know we can get production from him outside if we need be but Mo you know mostly in a slot and as a punt returner so you know we look at it because it's not a lot of big names but when you're trying to build a football team you're trying to get the best for your buck and when I say the best for your buck mean if I can stretch one or two players because these guys play multiple positions where there special teams and multiple wide receiver positions then I might have to take a chance on losing a guy who I think has enough potential but not enough to go out here and beat out these guys because I can get more out of these guys than I can get out of him Tana before we let you go I want to Circle back to dami for a moment that was a good breakdown of each of the guys in the room it seems like he would have the highest ceiling of those other guys competing for the second spot maybe I I say that because he was taken in the third round but we've seen him take the lid off have a 100 yard game catch a 75 yard touchdown he's had a couple moments but he's had really good camps before he's had great preseason before and it hasn't really translated like why might this be go time for him do you think well one of the things I've learned about this about this league in this game when you get new staffs that come in the door and you was a guy that basically on the cuss with the old staff there's no room for you you know we already counting you out and dami for some odd reason I'mma just put this out there he's been playing this whole preseason with another guy with his number on so when you know when you see another guy wearing your jersey and and you thought of yourself a little differently than than this organization or this staff that might make you that might you know that might make you get on your ball game and say let me go out here and do something for this spot let me go out here and be the guy that I know I can be um like I said before I'm just speculating I'm just talking right now but who knows something has started a fire under him and whatever for whatever reason whatever happened I'm happy because I just know it's a privilege to play in this all level and when you have the intangibles that he has especially the speed the height and we know he can be a playmaker when need be when you have that bro all you got to do is drop you know what and play some football and that's what some of these guys got to do man you know we get caught up into so much of this game man it's 11 men on the field that's the luxury we have when we on the field offensively defensively and special teams wise it's 11 players total as one guy all I have to do is my job I can't worry about the quarterback the lineman the running back the tight end all I got to do is do my job when guys slow things down and start paying attention closely to their job that's when the games get slower that's when the game get easier so I'm hoping that's what happened to dami or whoever it may be in that opportunity in that position or to receive his opportunity just do your job and I think that's what I've been seeing mostly from him this preseason especially in you know in training camp he's just going out there and handling his business and I think it's a fine time for that for him we love talking ball and we love talking wide receiver uh stuff with Santana Moss who had 1,000 yard seasons four different times here in Washington joining us on Grant and Danny hey before we let you go are you still a big movie theater guy or has that slowed for you it slowed tremendously man you remember those days huh I used to go you used to go as much as I did you were like a movie pass guy every Tuesday that was my little way of getting you know doing something out of the house I think now they kind of made us all couch potatoes man because they have all these streaming networks so trust me I'm still turning them on I'm just on the couch now most of the time but have you seen Deadpool or no didn't see Deadpool yet no I just saw Union the other day with um mark wber and um Holly Barry on Netflix it looks was it good it looks really good yeah it was man it was entertaining it it was pretty good just to see Holly in that kind of role you know Mark can do whatever man that that dude there is phenomenal I mean he looks like he he's like Marky Mark back when he was rapping and stuff he still looks good man he stay in shape and stuff s he wakes up at trainer comes to his house at 3 in the morning yeah that sacrifice man he's sacrificing that sleep to go out there and and continue to look how he looking man so he can keep doing what he's doing out here putting up those movies making those you know getting those big checks man I love it man making money you got you gotta have that kind of commitment and and determination and he has it he's been showing it from day one Danny when I was so this is back before I was married kids and all that single on the beat I'd go to movies all the time right either fail practice or at the movie theater and Santana was the only person I knew who would see more movies than me I was like we'd be in the locker room I'm like you haven't seen this you went through all the Oscar winners exactly he's like I've already seen that I've already seen that it's like you had free screenings or something at your house I don't know how you did it no you know it was just Tuesday was our day off and that was my way of saying hey I'm not going once I did my little regimen you know get my treatment get my LIF in you know I have nothing else to do so I might as well go to the movies and that was my thing I had been doing it for so long that I just felt like You Know Why Stop Now and I really didn't stop like I said before like it's just so much to watch streaming wise the stuff is in the movie theater you can get it in three four days so you know if I miss something I'm like well I buy it on whatever it comes out on you know apple or you know whatever it may be Disney or whatever so that's what I've been waiting on for most of the stuff but um I'm an AMC guy too so I was a guy that was trying to make sure everybody stay watching AMC go go go participate you know all that stuff I still got my shares and my stock so trust me they ain't G they ain't going to lose me I'm one of them guys that 30 years later you going to hear the whole lawsuit fail in and and the people who got AMC stocks got paid it'll be me because I'm I'm G hold on to my shares that is great T always the best budy have a great weekend take care fellas appreciate awesome having Santana back on the show nobody better to talk to after a big trade involving a wide receiver here in DC I think people might be surprised by the main takeaway in Philadelphia from the trade like how they viewed this thing want to get to that next Grant and Danny on the fan e e e e e e e e e e e e e it's Friday which means in L of a double play will win off the field at 3:45 and 15 minutes welcome back Grant and Danny thanks for making the show part of your day something cool happened at Nationals Park yesterday I have not yet discussed on these Airwaves we will get into that a little bit later this segment about five minutes out uh though I want to start with the reaction to the doson deal in Philadelphia I went back last night and just listened to the live segment when the news broke in Philly on our sister station there and then read some of the reporting on Dotson into the Eagles you know what their big takeaway was It was kind of twofold first things first Apparently one of the big gripes at training camp is that they need a receiver so they've got AJ Brown Devonte Smith they love those guys rightfully so yeah there's a massive drop off after that and I guess Johnny Wilson the reports aren't glowing the Florida state rookie that they drafted in the late rounds they were hoping would be know a third receiver at some point this year last year alamad zakus at least partially was one of those guys caught 10 balls for them and bounced around on the depth chart so they did want a third receiver and they were hoping that they went outside the building to trade for someone to elevate the room so I think they were excited that they went out and got the veteran receiver they wanted that said they were really maybe surprised as overstated but taking a back that they gave up a third round pick and I just thought it was funny like if you listen to our show you didn't really hear us talking that much about what a big deal the third round pick ends up being because here we were just surprised Jan doson is leaving this guy was a first rounder there where they don't have the affinity for him and or you know there's no care about where he was drafted and the value in versus the value out and the the net loss as an organization they just keep reiterating Eagles aren't really and don't want to be in the business of giving up third round picks to take flyers on guys a third round pick is not nothing and it made me think maybe we undersold that part of it a little bit here I brought it up very minimally yesterday but I mean a late third round pick is something that that's very very different than a fifth or a sixth or a seventh round pick right people say well Washington sent a fifth back to Philly sure they did with all due respect I mean a fifth round pick is you know Jordan McGee as a linebacker who might help you on teams and be a backup linebacker for the first couple years and that was going exceptionally well in the fifth round it looked like you got a Steel type player a fifth not that big of a deal a third pretty damn big deal so I'm not saying that it was a great return for Washington or anything like that it was just interesting to me the ju Theos of what we were saying here and what we were they were saying there no for sure and I would say a couple things to that number one they're used to Ho Roseman doing his business right and that is a shrewd and analytical and numbers driven a general manager as exists and and you know I know there have been some misses probably more misses of late than there have been hits but this is a guy that took them to a pretty high level rebuilt very quickly they got back to Super Bowl and darn near W it right I mean with a total totally new iteration and they have added Talent every time there's a dip they find a way to uh to to dramatically improve their roster they've traded they've made big trades think of the AJ Brown trade that netted him uh a guy that went for, 1400 yards last year and well over 100 catches so they've swung big before and made some moves it this to me is a group where and and if I'm Roseman company looking at it going if our window is open right now which I think they still think it is a third round pick means less to us than the you know the potential upside of having a slot receiver better than we could probably get otherwise right the if it's not happening for you know I don't know Donny Wilson Paris Campbell who has bounced around on a couple different teams this could be a nice little asset for us not that you think that he's gonna go for 800 yards and be you know almost as dynamic as Devonte Smith and AJ brown but he could help them maybe more in terms of worth and that big catch here there than in terms of overall production whereas here I'm going somebody's got to catch the football I need way more if he's good if he's bad we're not a Super Bowl Contender there they need those special little sprinkles on top these bits of seasoning where maybe a third rounder is not as worth worth as much to them totally I mean My Hope Is Still That by adding the third rounder it gives them added Ammunition To Go solve this problem now everybody thinks immediately when they hear that about the name Brandon IU I'm not opposed to Brandon auk but it doesn't have to just be him there are a ple of other wide receivers that you could make trades for there are other guys that we know that are available and some that we don't I mean that's the beauty of the GM role is you are building relationships and rapports with every other executive in football you watch The Hard Knocks Giants offseason like I do and it's just one constant phone call process for Joe Shane where he's on the phone with Elliot wolf and then he's on the phone with hoe Roseman and then he's on the phone with Adam Peters and you're just constantly talking to guys and you're getting a feel from GMS what other teams think about players and who's available and who isn't and who you need to touch Bas on so they know way better than we do what wide receivers might get cut right now what wide receivers are going to be on the team but are falling out of favor what wide receivers might be really good and play a lot but oh by the way are available if you want them at the right price it doesn't just have to be Brandon auk but the idea of right now having two third round picks having a couple extra sevenths coming over it just all gives you more pick allocation and asset just put it all into a package and go get something if you want to I just don't think they want to do that right now I think in the grand scheme of things that's next off season for them if they wanted to be aggressive enough to go get one of those receivers to help them right now Danny they probably would have had a different looking offseason yeah I think they would have done it and I think if you let's say for the sake of argument and they weren't as far as we know let's say they were in on the Kanan Allen bidding war and Chicago won it right by offering the Chargers the most okay then they're on the next guy not doing quite what Rona did where he dialed one 100 quarterback and called every single team with a quarterback and asked if he could trade for them not quite to that level but you would think there's some sort of plan a plan B plan C Plan D all the way down if you didn't nail one of those guys in uh free agency with the by the way free agent receiver class and the tackle class very weak on both counts so sort of understood that there wasn't much they could have done in terms of maneuvering you could have traded for somebody if you don't land any of those guys one would think in terms of normal logic okay if they couldn't land a veteran that's got some pelts on the wall this is a good receiver draft they'll draft a receiver now people are gonna say they did they drafted Luke mcaffrey a compensatory third round pick number 100 overall there are 32 teams you can do the math pretty easy that's basically a fourth rounder that they call a third rounder for you know whatever kind of purpose it's third round extended it's a glorified fourth rounder I hope he hits I hope he's awesome but that's not exactly solving the problem if you were in the Keenan Allen Marketplace which again they weren't I'm making this up but if you were there looking for a guy that gets out of bed and catches a th000 yards and then you went the fourth rounder is the same as that I got news for you it's not right it's not the same tier it's not even the same ballpark at this stage you're hoping Luke mcaffrey one day becomes a starter becomes a guy that you can count on and if he ends up being more than that that's awesome but if you're in that big-time market then going very very small time there's there's got to be an intermediate step there one would think right so that's kind of sort of where how i' filter that all of our training camp coverage on the fan is presented by Paul Henry's window installation Paul Henry's windows.com your clear Home Improvement Choice Danny yesterday we did the postgame show over at Nationals Park yes I was over there uh early to watch the game before we did the postgame show and I was sitting with Clary and we were getting ready uh to I think even head over to the red box shortly there after to get ready for the postgame but we were sitting in what was effectively a row by ourselves not a very well attended game it was a MAA game against the bad Rockies team there's a n Rocky to be named later at the plate left-handed bat and he shoots a foul ball coming right back toward your boys now you know that Ryan Clary earlier this off season had an opportunity to catch a foul ball that would have been a home run actually a home run yeah and instead of trying to catch it he mooned it turned around and stuck his butt out toward it while his buddy reached out and tried to grab it this ball initially off the bat looked like it was coming right at us and it kept sailing to our left it's got a little tail on it has yeah Lefty left it's coming in hot by the way and so we're sitting I hop up going this is my chance I've never caught a foul ball on the fly in my entire life in fact in game I've never gotten a foul ball in my entire life even bouncing around my only regret is I wish I would have like sprinted and moved faster but in the back of my head like people are watching me I'm Shuffling along I'm I don't look good I don't need people like watching me do something athletic all of these things because what if it goes badly what if you trip I'm not even as worried about that but I don't enough time that I'm thinking about like eyes are on me like just don't overreact play cool exactly so I'm kind of slowly but with some Pace making my way down the road toward where this ball and I are going to intersect like four seats to my left I reach out with my left hand as far out as I can reach and the ball basically whizzes directly past my fingertip off the seat and car him's right back to me on the bounce I have to kind of like bend down and pick it up right there and I get the foul ball you got a foul ball turn yesterday I did I turn around and Clary is still standing there ass out waiting for the ball to land I don't know what he just turned around and did the butt thing I'm so S I guess it's just what Clary does all the time now you see a ball you show your butt showing his butt what actually happened though is I turn around and Clare's like dude you got a foul ball and I'm like yeah and he's like sisted and then right away like two kids three rows down are like can I have it can I have it and this one kid's like please please please and I was just like sure man and I like toss him the ball I give the kid the ball and he's like thank you thank you and then Ryan was salty that I didn't give it to him no I just wanted to see it I just wanted to see it that was it I just wanted to see if there's any marks on it or anything like that I just want to smell the leather get a little little time with the baseball you you ever smelled the freshly hit baseball that's been squared up like that oh you know what I'm talking about right it came right for me a few weeks ago in the butt yeah it left a little perfume on your butt first time in game that I ever got a foul ball how about that I was so excited and I almost like legitimately made a hell of a catch I had to be moving a little bit quicker I just didn't have the urge necessary you have a great break on the ball it was one of those things where the time to stand up like my pop time wasn't good enough sure right if I got to my feet a little quicker and or if I was moving a little faster I'd probably make a lunging left-handed barehanded catch but instead like I I committed to the bit too late if that makes sense I know exactly what you mean well as someone who has gotten close a couple times this year actually multiple times youve been hit by the ball almost been hit by a baseball 109 miles hour off the bat by Wilson contr what you decide to do uh I turned my side not not the backside but the side no it was a side there is video evidence of this as well but that's another story for a different day you know Joe Buck said about what you did it was a Despicable act I know I'm sure that's a good one that's a good bit that's a deep that's that's really good but I mean I think ran Moss over Grant I I think you kind of went through the same thing it's like you freeze and you're like in shock almost that the ball is coming to you kind of what it is I did freeze I think if I was standing at the moment of contact though I would have gotten there it was just like the I'm sitting now I got it's it's not easy to get to get this big Engine moving here to get to my feet and then get going to the left shuffling along I just I wish I would have been a little more aggressive if no one was in the ballpark I I would have been like playing shortstop just diving worst case scenario you make an ass of yourself to yourself but knowing everyone's watching me it was almost like played it cool and then at the end I'm like damn that could have been it that could have been my I got within probably three inches of catching it if I wanted it a little bit more I catch a like awesome falling catch and that's what I needed that's what I wanted so I those we're not we got to jump but speaking of playing it cool totally unrelated just I thought of this uh when my son was in soccer practice I was like went for a little bit of a walk ball leaves this other field okay as as I'm walking and I'm going to play it cool and kick it back to the to the kids you know I'm not doing ah here we go guys I could have just picked it up and thrown it to it was like yeah watch this I'm going to kick it in my mind I'm going to kick it it was wet I didn't know it ass over teac cattle I go to kick it it goes about six feet and I'm horizontal and I land just splash gross mud uh this was in the spring but it reminded me of that when you're like yeah I'm trying to play it cool and then at the very end you put a little effort and it goes terribly Friday double play means winning off the field next on Grant and Danny e e e e e e e e e e e it is time to figure out how you're winning off the field double play driven by your local Washington area Honda dealers stop in for a great deal rugged and capable Honda Pilot contact your local Washington area Honda dealers today winning off the field we do still to this day once a week thanks to the great Bruce Allen a legend round these parts ran this team so well did have a better draft history than Ron Rivera if you look at it yeah but it's true always good he once said these words we're winning off the field we got to start winning on the field and it stuck with us because that's a way of life that's not just some sort of thing that you say once a week for shtick that's how you've got to approach it your small victories your little minor things that most people wouldn't care about let's celebrate those things let's bring some light to those special times winning off the field there you go Bruce that a baby so it is time to figure out how you're in the wind column Danny give him an example this morning at my Homestead Brian Ryan and Ben all came over we play pickle ball at my house I got Sport Court in the backyard and we played some pickle ball there I didn't have to go very far I didn't have to drive anywhere went inside to use my own bathroom when I was done drank my own water therefore I am winning off the field and on the court Ry Ryan said that your sport court is incredible it's pretty amazing dude he said it's like mind-blowingly nice uhhuh I'm coming to shoot hoops you're more seriously you are more than welcome it's G to happen I'm going to work on the jumper you are more than welcome get some shots up you can borrow my weighted vest I will not wear a weighted vest you can borrow the weighted vest you're training for the Olympics you can borrow the weighted vest you very sweet of you thank you say it one more time then I'll borrow I'm just telling you you can borrow it like you're going I don't know if I can I feel nervous I that's the problem don't feel weird it's me not knowing if I can borrow it you are permitted to borrow well if I can borrow it then I'll borrow it rich and only what's up buddy what's going on boys man I'm I'm a little disappointed in Grant I feel like there was a lack of hustle to get this baseball because I've seen him catch a Miller Light while hanging off the top of a bus it's true good point had enough effort greatest catch I've ever seen want to throw that out there greatest catch ever it's the best catch I've Rich it's the best catch I've ever seen it was a good catch in life I think Gary Matthews Jr scaling the center field fence a little better maybe Willie May in his hat bu was he buzzed on a moving bus he was not no he was not defi Gravity the entire way good catch I appreciate that I feel honored for you well I uh today I going to work is truck day so I go in at 6: a.m unloaded my my due boss goes all right you're all set if you want to roll out early it's all good I take the kids up to the pool and like it's Father's Day Off the dads are all at a table with a big old cooler of beer almost like they're waiting for me therefore I am winning off the field that ain't bad it's good day at the office that ain't bad rich and then a better day after let's go to MD and Stafford hello mat I just crossed over the tuent river and calv County my God it's so beautiful therefore I am winning off the field I know about some of those things I was gonna say that's that's you right little King George country he's talking about down that way I me that's not C county is not King George but he's headed down Jason right in my neck of the woods but you know what I think he's winning off the field because he's in God's country there it is just him in some rolling roads and some Greenery some woods so I've heard someone I've heard people recently a couple times say PA tuent like it's PA Tucket like the Red Sox affiliate yeah it's I feel like it's pent right I would lean toward that one yeah for sure did you guys down that way say like did you P I got to be honest I don't think I've ever said it once okay I don't think most people talk about it I think if when I see it on signs or something I think I would go with puxin yeah but also Matt's got some Yin or to him he does so maybe like his p is actually or paw like he's going to ask if you want a pop it's not going to be a soda he wants you to have a pop cuz that's normally how we abbreviate things the last part of it his over is over he's got a little yin to him oh by the way we should have asked him he's got to be bummed because he's a Penn State Mark Jan doson on the move oh it's tough for him that might hit him right where it hurts let's go to Armando in Salt Lake City listening on the always free Odyssey app what's up B hey man hey Bob hey Bob hello Robert uh your your convers your conversation with Santana reminded me of this so I just turned 44 just younger than Danny happy birthday by the way you're such a young guy that's that stings by the way compared to Danny I'm 44 not anymore damn it go on yeah I'll be there I'll be there next year I know buddy um I stopped by the the work cafeteria just the other day and just said hello to the cafeteria staff and the nice young lady said hey have you seen uh Deadpool Wolverine yet and I said no I haven't she said well you're in your early 30s right you're going to love the music you'll be bouncing in your seat therefore I am winning off the field first of all that's a hilarious conversation starter I love that secondly what a gift it is to be assumed to be 12 years younger than you are drab asked me today because he I was telling him it was your birthday and I said to drab I'm like what are you in you're upper 30s or he's like and he's older he's in his 40s yeah and he's like no dude and he told me his age and I said oh goes you're 40 right I said are you kidding in 5 years you know like what do you mean to my 40 isn't it funny how about how much offense you take what like seriously guy I was 35 years ago you think I'm about to be 40 That's not how time goes but I mean yeah but he's also get up at 3 in the morning and like night is Day Day is Up Up Is Down he's a good egg but I mean my metabolic age is probably 67 you know but we don't let's not rush this thing that's not what we're talking about we don't have to go to that just dates Grant and Danny on his birthday on the fan next ahead of the Beltway Blitz we're giving away Jason Alan tickets right here on g& D e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e will set up a revocable trust or create a healthc care power Bobby Blanco of massin sports.com our good buddy Bobby what a scene Monday night could be James Wood Dylan Cruz Juan stto in the house from the Yankees going to be a nice night Nats Park yeah happy day that Grant broke the news that Dylan Cruz is going to make his major league debut on Monday day um yeah no it's gonna be super exciting I don't really think it is a coincidence that he's gonna come up while they face the Yankees I do think that there was some calculation behind um this move we saw him do this with James Wood right it leaked out the weekend before he made his debut on July 1 they probably want to do the same thing where every fan has a chance to go buy tickets get into their seat on Monday night um I know I think Monday is the first day of school for some kids around here but hopefully some parents will let them stay out a little late to go see Dylan Cruz play Juan sto and the Yankees um it's be super exciting I think we've been waiting for this for a couple months now ever since James did come up um you know Dylan kind of followed the path with James I mean he played a similar amount of games in Rochester got more bats actually and he's been hot as of late over this last month he's hitting over 300 a couple of bombs some big bombs as well so I he's just a guy that I think elevates his game to the level of play he's playing at I mean we know that he double A but he played a lot better when he got a triple A this guy is just meant to play underneath the spotlight so Monday night against the Yankees at home with James Wood in the in the U in the Outfield with him with Juan stto in the opposite Dugout I think is g to be a big Spotlight for him and it's GNA be a lot of fun Bobby fast forward to the year 2027 right you're Bobby Blanco in the future now you're still very handsome still very young you have a metabolism all right but you're predicting the future now who's in center field who's in left field and who's in right field for the Washington Nationals that is such a good question and I'm glad we don't have to answer it too much right now but looking into my crystal ball um I think ideally you know you have Dylan Cruz playing center field um and you have James White still in left I think if they want wanted to move to James to right at some point that would have already happened um obviously Dylan's going to come up and probably play right field with Jacob young in Center I know everyone wants to point to the fact that Juan stto is gonna be a free agent after this year let's kind of Trot out all of our top prospects and show him how good that this young national team is about to be maybe he will give the Nationals a Fighting Chance this off season a lot of things have to happen for that to come true I think that also could be a part of it uh but if I'm looking at two years down the line three years down the line the Outfield it's definitely going to be James left I think Dylan moves Center at some point while Jacob young is a gold glove maybe even platinum glove caliber center fielder I think Dylan is just a better overall player he brings a better back profile um and so I think you have to play him instead maybe a big free agency assigning like aano or someone else is in right field so that would be pretty crazy if we saw those three guys back in National uniforms playing in that Outfield in the coming season Bobby two more timely pressing matters today McKenzie Gore pitches for the NS in Atlanta coming up 720 first pitch this evening I'm interested in this because Gore's had a treacherous second half obviously he's got all the stuff in the world projects to maybe be their number two starter long-term moving ahead but it just hasn't gone well lately I thought he showed some signs of life though he pitched much much better first two times through the order his last start did you see those same encouraging signs that that I did and just how critical is this outing for him as he's trying to get his season back on track yeah I did see those uh same signs I was in Philly for his last start and he was great through five held him to one run over five innings the fourth the sixth inning kind of fell apart for him he gave up four runs um but after the game him Dave Martinez all the guys sounded very confident that he did a lot of good things in that outing better things they they worked on him in in his Bullpen session leading up to that start made some changes um trying to get him you obviously to throw more strikes but more quality strikes get low in the zone um David Martinez always mentions you know whenever he is up in the zone that's when he gets in trouble and that's what happened in that sixth inning against the Phillies he started getting the ball up they started seeing it up and they started smacking it so he's gotta stay low in the zone he does have two wins over the Braves so far this season um you know obviously they done with a lot of injuries but that's still a difficult lineup to navigate so he has had some success against them this year I ideally he uh he comes away tonight with another solid outing and tries to finish his season on a high note B Patrick Corbin was good yesterday 100th career win I I know the numbers he's he gets beat up for him and understandably he's not hasn't produced at a very high level you know even with that big contract but to me he means more than that to this team and to this roster uh go into that a little bit for for kind of his role with some of these young pitchers yeah I've said this a lot uh I I think you know it is easy to kick Patrick Corbin when he's already kind of been down the past couple of Seasons but you know being in that Clubhouse pretty much on a daily basis being around the guys he is still a very vocal presence in there and a good leader for some of these guys like McKenzie Gore to look up to obviously you know we don't want McKenzie Gorge Zia gray Jake gvin Mitchell Parker DJ hers to have you know the kind of Seasons that Patrick has had since the World Series but it's more of the uh the durability the taking care of your body in between Stars preparation um you know of all the things that we talk about Patrick Corbin he does give them Innings and he does make every start every five days so that is something to be said uh for him and I think a lot of the younger guys see that in him and talk about like three of those guys I just mentioned are young left-handed pitchers so they can run a lot from Patrick Corbin who has had success it's been a while now but he has had success up at this level so yes none of these past couple what five six years have gone the way the Nationals wanted to or Patrick wanted to but he played in a role off the field in that Clubhouse an important one too Bobby Blanco massin sports.com thank you buddy we appreciate you thanks guys happy Birthday Danny da thank you pal day birthday day let's talk football Mike Jones of the athletic covers and he joins us now on g& D Mike I don't think Drake May really has a chance to start I think that story has much to do about nothing jacobe brassette will get another start against Washington in the final preseason game what say you yeah no I think that they will go with jacobe Brett as their starter give Drake May a little bit of time uh to you know continue to develop and learn this game uh Jobe brette is a very solid veteran that's GNA give him a chance uh to come out there and compete I don't know where exactly they're going to stack up in their division but it just you know you don't want to throw a kid to the Wolves when you're still trying to build the rest of your team around him so I think the set's the guy the big news here last 24 hours Mike is obviously the trade of Jan doson I want to go to the other end of that trade though with Philadelphia I think everybody kind of wrote them off understandable that end of season car crash last year was so bad that you know staff turnover some players are going to be different a lot of stuff's going to be different still got some pretty good nuts and bolts and some bones there in Philadelphia and nobody wins this division back to back I think Philly is is is poised for another really good season and now they added a decent slot receiver there for a third rounder what do you think about the Eagles oh no I think that the Eagles are going to win this Division I think that the biggest problem with them last year was not Personnel was that Nick serani didn't further evolve his offense they started out you know I think they were like nine and one uh they were winning games but there was always something that felt a little bit wrong and then it felt like the defenses caught on to what they were trying to do offensively and Brian Johnson was the scapegoat Jaylen her also got a lot of criticism but it was Nick sani's offense and he knew that because he basically fired himself as the offense coordinator and brought in Kell Moore uh I think that he's going to be good for that offense they've added saquon Barkley so you're going to have a stronger Run game ease some pressure on Jaylen Herz don't think we'll see a bunch of those uh Rugby scrum tush pushes as much as we did last year every third and one or uh fourth in one or fourth in you know goal in inches I think that also yeah adding Johan doson will be good because look he's got two monsters on the outside with AJ Brown and um Devonte Smith and they've got young guys up front on their defense of front they got young guys in the back end it might take a little bit for those guys to all come together in that secondary but look at everybody else in the vision Dallas is you know got crazy stuff going on they don't have all their guys in Camp um and happy with their contract situations the Giants are you know very far away from being competitive um and so I think that you know Washington's you know they're they're building but the Eagles are the ones that are in the best shape to win that Division and I think Make some noise in the NFC Mike how would you rank the three rookie quarterbacks that have been named starters already Williams Daniels Nicks as far as your expectations for how they perform as rookies oh I think in that order that you just said right there um I think Williams is definitely the most NFL ready uh he's got a lot to work with he's got veteran wide receivers he's got a talented rookie wide receiver he's got a very good offensive line they've put in front of him they've got guys on B Playmakers on the defensive side of the ball at the up front and in their secondary so he's got the most to work with Jaden Daniels has been you know has shown some good things for sure in uh the preseason but you know they're still a work in progress this offensive line um you know got a wide receiver position uh on defense and so I think he's going to do well they might take their lumps here and there and then B Knicks I think you know he's looked good in the preseason but nobody's game planning for him so once defensive coordinators have some game to him they're dissecting his weaknesses I expect him to struggle a little bit and so yeah I don't I don't expect a whole lot out of Denver this year and you know we'll see with Chicago they're in a tough division but I think Williams is going to put up numbers and look like a veteran when he goes out there and play who starts more games Russell Wilson or Justin Fields um I I think it might be very close split there Russell Wilson's going to be your starter but I'll be surprised if it's mid October uh early November and they haven't made a switch to Justin field I know Mike Tomlin is determined uh to prove that he can get more out of Russell Wilson than what Shawn Payton uh did and he keeps on standing on hey he's our Pole Position guy and they they feel good about the offense they're going to put around him but I just am not sure and I think Justin Fields has shown some Flash and shown some things with his Youth and athleticism that might help them a little bit more and so that's why I think that he will wind up finishing this year as their starter and being their quarterback of the future Jonesy we appreciate you buddy thank you as always all right see you guys see be good my friend all of our commander coverage local leader and Training Camps presented by Paul Henry's window installation Paul Henry windows.com your clear Home Improvement Choice let's talk to our buddy Eric pickle you know him from Sports junkies Fame EB what you make of the Jan doson trade well I was initially shocked believe it or not I mean we all heard sort of the Rumblings you could see the writing on the wall that they weren't thrilled with his production but I have to say I was shocked that they moved him um but when it's all said and done I think at this point they still deserve the benefit of the doubt so I trust them and I'm okay with it but I was definitely shocked to be honest with you eie here's my working Theory right I don't think the receiver room was particularly good out outside of Teran mclen I think they don't care about that I think they need guys that are going to block I think they don't care if it's like I think it's going to be like 2012 with where their number two was Joshua Morgan or or or or somebody else they want guys on the outside to engage and maybe the guy that catches the second most passes on the outside is say zakus they're going to run through Eckler and McLaren and her and guys like that that's kind of what I'm working with what are your thoughts no I mean I think that that's true there's no doubt about it they want a com complete uh receiver willing to do all the dirty work that's why they like diami probably because he's willing to do anything um zakus honestly has popped I mean he he looks like he could do the job it's not an outstanding room but the only uh CP have is with our good friend Barry fuga who I think is out standing I currently think he's like the best in town um his idea is that this just signals that they know that they're going to stink and they're just going to move on get assets part of that's true they want to get assets for him but I don't think this is an indictment necessarily this coincides with what Danny's saying on the team I think it's just an indictment on Jan they just Jan's a nice guy by all accounts they just didn't think his skill set fit what they were doing and they didn't think they were missing much by moving on from them so I don't think they think that they're worse off getting rid of them what's your confidence in Cliff kingsburry to Solve the Riddle That is fixing and improving a lot of the guys in this offense and getting the most instead of Daniels it's better than anybody since Jay okay if that means anything to you um like I really like j i I think Jay's unbelievable um uh you know it didn't really work out as a head coach or whatever but man you know he could yeah and and and he's freaking hysterical so I'm so biased um but yeah I think I think I think Cliff's a smart guy I think he's going to figure this out I think he's had plenty of experience I trust him I actually do trust them uh I'm not worried about the stuff that they say always was only lining up Terry you know what they're not showing you anything yet you know he's learned he's he's evolved he's smart guy this is what this what I mean you know he's done this his whole life I I have confidence actually and and largely it's because of Jaden to be honest with you I think he's gonna make everybody look better give me you speaking of confidence give me the area of the squad this is again Dealers Choice here Eric area of the squad element team thing whatever you're most confident in and think that you are least confident in heading into the season oh okay you know what most confident in jayen Daniels being the real deal I maybe bizarre but I do think he's the real deal least confident Corners I just think that's pretty obvious the offensive line is obviously a huge question mark But if Jaden keeps getting rid of the ball one point the corner situation is worrisome EB we appreciate you as always buddy thank you what do you got on the docket this weekend uh your phone's breaking up a bunch say it again oh I'm sorry no it's all good I'm sorry all right be good guys what are you doing this weekend hear the answer oh drink what else is there to do drinking yeah drinking well you're a golf guy now you're like all in on golfing it seems like well I was just came I just came inside from hitting balls yeah how's this how's the swing looking swings fine but it's just golf golf's like really hard so you can think you're freaking Tiger Woods one swing and then you're the worst player ever the next that is ridicul I think there's no sport on the planet that is made to look Easier by the experts I'm not saying like hitting a baseball's not hard or whatever but nothing looks easier with the consistency with which they do things than going out and golfing I'll take 100 swings or 140 and I'll have like six good ones and I'm like I'm coming back I can I'm really good at this and then I just suck so bad yeah no it's so true but you know what if you really really watch closely too even the best tiger will shank one every once in a while you know Scotty Sheffer will hit one off the hosle it's a maddening sport it's maddening but it's just sort of that that Pursuit that keeps bringing us back right that feeling that you get when you do smos one oh so great yeah even me I'm terrible like you wouldn't golf with me I'm really bad but when I go golfing and I play like best ball or whatever in a tournament couple times a year for charity or whatever I'll have in my round I'll hit like two or three balls where I'm like I think I could get good at golf well like every time I play I'm like I should do this all the time which is you can't how can anyone do it all the time well when your kids get older Danny actually you can do it quite a bit well I don't know what he's talking about he plays pickle ball six hours a day he could find a time to play some it's it's not it's not a n9h hour commitment 45 minutes away on a weekend like that's that's different well what's better what else you gonna I mean once your kids grow up and everything what else we GNA do well you got to go to all their college games man you're you're you're nothing but college scholarships out there in the B house1 athletes left and right I just hope someone makes the middle school team in my house I just want to know how how many of your kids are going to be in the 28 Olympics in La zero I promise negative zero I don't know you got siles left and right now you guys are sweet they're they're good kids see thank you guys have a great weekend youo Budd be good that's our buddy Eric that show by the way has a chance these junkies have you heard them yet yeah they got chemistry they I don't know how they did it but they got something going you don't see that very often like a new show with four guys on it yeah and they do that and they I don't think they've ever met before they just threw him in the studio together yeah really an amazing concept I got to give Chris kard credit you do Jan doson is a Philadelphia Eagle the commanders now move forward will they make a wide receiver move before the season starts that matters or is this basically the group let's get into that next on Grant and Danny e e e e e e e e e e e e e e if you miss Santana Moss that interview will be archived for you at the fand dc.com when we are done today granny.com audio to listen to our entire program before we get into the wide receiver room and what kind of moves might be available to Washington as they move forward without J doson we did not mention this on air at all and it just kind of dawned on us again during a break today that we hadn't brought this up and it's definitely worth talking about so yesterday we're on the Nats postgame show I'm not going to sit here and pretend like we're wearing suits and ties when we do that but it's a little bit more buttoned up yeah I would say it's there's not the same amount of leeway nobody tells us what to talk about what we can say what we can't say but it's a network postgame show on the Nationals radio network and so we break the game down we say who did things well and who didn't and what was good and what was bad and then we say goodbye we're not going to be grading people's lunches what are you eating style like we do on Grant and Danny We're not gonna be picking football games it's not our normal radio show it's just us talking about baseball on the network but I say this to tell you that during one of the commercial breaks during that postgame show that we did yesterday mhm two guys walk up to us and they were probably if if I had to guess I would say maybe like 27 to 30 years old 30 is what I had in mind the one guy is in a good mood definitely enjoyed his afternoon he's laughing a lot he's jovial very pleasant yes and he is very excited to walk up and say to us this is my buddy he Taps his buddy on the shoulders like looking down at the ground and seemingly watch bobly and he said I just wanted you guys to know that he just accomplished the 999 challenge which is to go to a baseball game over nine innings eat nine hot dogs and drink nine beers now immediately when he said that Danny I don't know what you were thinking I did not believe him at all I did as soon as he said that this guy did that yep I did not nobody can do that nine innings nine beers nine hot dogs just the thought of it as repulsive makes you want to throw up it would be borderline impossible well made him want to throw up too and that's why I believed it I've never seen anyone look grosser and more ready to puke and and like they're standing there they seem like very nice guys I didn't want them to stand there anymore because I thought any second this dude is gonna puke where we have to sit and do the show I tweeted out a picture of this guy you should go check it out if you want at Grand H Paulson his name was Max there I took about I'm looking at the pictures now I took about six pictures of this dude I posted like the two most flattering his eyes are closed in both of them yeah he's like looking down toward the ground in one of them he's clearly invisible pain looks like he's either in the middle of going to the bathroom in his pants and or he just got kicked in the shin but this is where immediately I started to believe it this guy is out on his feet wobbly okay his buddy is walking him around as his chaperon quite literally grabbing his shoulder like hey buddy we're going to go this way now he did stop to like joone on him and slap him in the back of the head and talk to us and do skits and bits but he consented I said I don't know if he was in his right mind to consent but they wanted me to like post that he had done it and I was like and I'm going to take a picture of you is that cool and the guy was like huh and I was like I'm going to take a picture of you he's like staring at the ground he's like yeah please do that and I'm like I'm going to post it online he's like yeah you got it man yeah you should do that yeah you go okay buddy smile and he didn't move he think in his mind he's smiling he's like I'm smiling with the back of my face I think he was smiling but I'm telling you I went from there's zero chance this guy accomplished this to within two seconds of looking at him seeing the pain y he kept getting doubled over he looked like an NBA player in the 47th minute of a game like hands on knees at one point he was down on one knee looked like Lebron after touch like it was bad K Ruiz new style catching to try to help frame him a little bit like he's on one knee I mean it was so brutal yeah and he was at one point kind of using the table where we were sitting yes to like help himself just stand there like trying to talk to us he wasn't really saying anything in his mind he might have been but his buddy was doing all the Talking he did it we started at the Bullpen for the first inning or two to save some money they don't have just the small cans of beer the normal ones so they had to do the tall boys and going through the whole rig roll of how he did it paced himself and and like you said at one point Danny kind of I could tell with your eyes was like I don't want this person here at any moment we're going to get a shower and I feel horrible about that because they were very nice there this is not a hopefully they didn't take offense to my sort of not dis perceived disinterest or otherwise I was like dragging on the conversation getting information and you were going get this person away from me yeah because I don't know how to say this in a nicer way he looked like any second was the second and they were leaving the ballpark we had another 2 and a half hours you and I did to to do our regular radio program alone in a ballpark can you imagine and yes I imagine it right then in that moment I'm going take it on Down the Line now's a good time to go hey the exit's that way like please stop but so the my view of it if you're if you're in the ballpark uh we're behind the little red toastr right grant sitting to my left I'm I'm on the right I have a little bit of a better angle of watching approaches from that side right from your side because I can look look across you a little bit easier if that makes any sense I saw them coming around the bend he took a wide turn you know what I mean the drunk guy and I go that's in my mind note to self that person is in toxicated totally fine growing up do what you do you see them you're like that guy's struggling to get out of the ball you're like that guy's having a tough time and his buddy's carrying him and then the dude comes over he like making eye contact with us as we're kind of getting ready to jump on for the post game you know looking up the whatever numbers or you know the box score Patrick Corbin's 100th win and who did what win and he's like he's like are you guys are you guys all right and we're like no in a second and he's so excited about this like his buddy did it and the buddy that did it looks like he just lost a UFC fight but there's no visible bruising bro he did it for a Day game a Thursday one o'clock Day game like his day wasn't over at 105 he's cracking that first beer and having that first dog we saw him walking out at 430 or whatever it was in the afternoon yeah I can't imagine all I've thought about all day what does that guy feel like today what death does he feel like today I was so lucky for the vast majority of my entire life I'd never felt I I never had a hangover I I don't know how that's the most unbelievable thing to me by way I know but I will say the last time I got really really stupid mhm we'll call it that guy okay was it at our holiday party it was yeah and it was the most hung over what did you have did you have the scotchy scotch or did you have the bour no I had all of the oldfashioned yeah you did and then me and your brother-in-law were drinking something with like cracked eggs in it for some reason you remember that I do now yeah they were like pouring like it was like a raw egg they put in a drink it was disgusting whatever it was it was a bad decision yeah I was gonna say just ask the Uber driver it was not did you get that that little search charge that comes no no no we didn't get that but he made a pit stop on the way home did I'll tell you and I'm like I'm too old for this this is not the way I should be Liv my life but yeah that was before Co I guess it was your last big uh Ru a party make some bad decisions event I that was the night I met the uncle that I I got into it with on the radio that's right where I was I was just a passenger there before I could say anything it was too late oh I'm sure that was the problem well that's what happened I mean I didn't I had no idea because it normally it's like I don't know what interrupt it because it's like hey my uncle yeah my wife Uncle Jim is on the phone and then he's God bless him he's a wonderful man he is nice he has the occasional hot take doesn't cover it he has the center of the nuclear reaction scalding fishing take like 1980s Chernobyl level takes but I just like that you didn't think at any point maybe you'd let me know hey that's my uncle you're getting into it by the time the the the going in like I thought he like hey you know here's my idea why don't they do a trade or like why don't they Shuffle Up This or have go with an opener he wanted to send Gio Gonzalez to the miners that was his solution and God bless him I I explained to him at the last time we hung out the last time last Gathering that's not an option like literally it's not an option you can't do that there are a million reasons why but it's not a thing and he went there and and then wouldn't oh man and I just sat oddly by and I had to tell to the Commercial Bank that was my wife unle that just called hey uhu hey um grant grant that was my uncle I'm like what like that guy was my uncle I'm like no it wasn't no it wasn't yeah I think it was I think it was you didn't know you think it might here's in truth I did the I think yeah I knew but I said I think but I bring that up to say that's the worst feeling in the world uhuh the the next day yep and this is worse than that he did nine beers and nine hot dogs so diving into the comments for a second JP Finley said that looks like a dude that drank nine beers but more so ate nine hot dogs uh Walter's the sports bar right across from the ballpark said I hope he skipped our bathroom after the game which is very funny yeah they were moving towards the center field gate thankfully had they gone out right by us he might have seen you he might he might have been in the he was not g to double back you know what I mean because he was moving towards Center thank God pook pillow says at 1 pm on a Thursday Legends yeah I mean that that is the part that I think gets slept on a little bit uh why am I just learning this as a thing Jake I don't know man a lot of people have been talking it's been out there buddy what was the time of game GP the pitch clock really affects the 999 it's a good point it is a great question pry quick moving game so but until some crooked numbers went up towards the end because it was cruising if you remember it was through like five or six um but the the that phenomenon again this has been forever ago but in uh as a Collegian there used to do these bar crawls in in some of the various neighborhoods there was a Foggy Bottom one dupon Circle Etc so I would in my dorm room wake up early and make my the whole team pancakes so you'd load up on something to to be able to absorb the beer and you go and get your wristband and then we went to all the Georg so it's O Third Edition and the exchange and then uh you know uh you know Tequila Timmy's or whatever odds all the different places and you'd be hammered by 100 p.m. like drunk off your oh you know what and then you can't stay up anymore and then you kind of like half wake up at like and it's like six o'clock that same day and you're hung over the same day when you were day drinking in the morning is the warf the new Georgetown this is my new theory yes I don't think georgetown's Georgetown georgetown's not a thing anymore really exactly I think the warf that Waterfront beautiful area because I was at a rooftop bar recently I think that's the new Georgetown it's the new Georgetown no it's it's not the new Georgetown but actually I had a a friend of a friend do the 999 Challenge and the next day he actually had to get his stomach pumped at the hospital so if you guys remember you guys were actually trying to like kind throwing this out there for me like hey you could do it that and I was like I gonna ask you if you were interested in trying it on Monday night for Dylan Cruz's debut no chance no chance you won't go 999 for Dylan Cruz I will not are you dedicated at all Cruz I am so dedicated I was actually all in for this what if we did it for for the Yankees then you would do it oh yeah yeah for Aon judge yes if if like Spencer Jones made his debut then maybe the old Clary would you know he really was did the show jump through tables this Clary I mean we can't even get him to eat a hot dog he at that watermelon he won't even drink a beer and have a hot dog but he very casually dismissed Us by the way we're like hey I think the Waterfront is the new the warp's of new Georgia he goes no it's not anyway he's like you old idiots but I think honestly I I'm just telling you being on the I was at this gorgeous rooftop event and it was packed and hopping and everyone was along the water young goodlooking people were partying and drinking and eating and doing all those things I think that's the new Georgetown so I so the is I realized Ryan's so young he doesn't know the Old Georgetown exactly to him georgetown's always been this his file is very blank on the Old Georgetown he do know Granton Danny on the fan all right let's get into the wide receiver position and possible fixes is there help coming or is the group already at the park gonna have to solve Washington's problems on offense you're listening to the fan e e e e e e e e e e e Grant and Danny on the fan welcome back thanks much for making the show part of your day we're taking you up to about 6:30 Nats baseball tonight at 7:20 on the fan pregame with Charlie and Dave set for right around 650 Johan Dawson's an eagle commanders get a third round pick they ship a fifth rounder to Philadelphia news broke yesterday we talked about it quite a bit on our show the secondary angle I want to dive into with you right now though is would you predict them to make another move or not we can open up the MGM National Harbor listener lines on this at 80063 61067 there's been more speculation than I thought nationally about the commanders Making a Splash at wide receiver now in fact even Mike silver who I reached out to to try to get on the show today covers the 49ers out in San Francisco he was on Deadline during our show and was busy but he said that his sources are telling him don't count washing and out on Brandon iuk and then all options are still on the table for auk meaning a extension with San Fran or a trade be it to Washington or somewhere else but that was the reaction around the country last night after talking about what Philly got what Washington got in the trade the commanders aren't just going to rooll with this receiver group are they so I wanted to pose that question on the MGM National Harbor listener lines we hit the phones they're wide open 800 636 1067 but Danny you get us started if they made a move for a wide receiver what do you think that's going to look like I I don't think it'll be the headliner I don't think it's a you know a one or a two and a four or a two in the new three that they just got plus a huge contract market value for Brandon iuk I don't think they're going headliner I just don't see that from from this group right now I think if you were going to do that you would have started maneuvering before instead of leaving yourself behind the eightball in a slightly weaker position close to season time I just felt like they would have addressed this at a different point if they felt like they needed to if there's another move it's a I'm just picking a name it's Hunter Renfro who's available for anybody right now via free agency maybe it's a marginal around theedge trade maybe it's a guy that was probably going to get cut will give you the conditional six rounder you you can come on board to sort of help our depth I think they're not looking at this number two receiver the way that we conventionally do on the outside I think I think they're looking at it as one guy's going to be a starter on all the running plays or all on this set of packages or in these formations and everyone's gonna have a different role Teran mcen supersedes that but everybody else we're gonna we're gonna Cobble together a second receiver out of two or three different people so I I don't think they're going to go heavy value for it I could be wrong I think a couple things can be true I think them viewing wide receiver 2 differently than a lot of teams is probably accurate and also they could still absolutely go make a move to get better at position because it just helps the Young quarterback to have more weapons and to have more people that can help Elevate his game I don't think they'll sign a Renfro type because to me if they were going to do that why wouldn't you have done it already they've literally gone outside the building and signed free agent receivers twice yep Byron Pringle at the beginning of Camp about a week in maybe a little under a first week of training camp down they signed Pringle and and then remember they went out and got a big receiver with some size when that became a priority in Martavis Bryant who they're kicking the tires on so they could have signed Renfro or any of those other guys at any point maybe it's possible that they reached out to one of them and they didn't want to deal with training camp and they said come back to me at the end of camp start of the season and we'll consider signing with you then and so I guess that that's possible that one of those guys becomes available but I'm with you if you're asking do they trade for Brandon auk or t Higgins or let's say uh courland suton or something you know one of these guys that's been rumored at any point the last couple months to be available because there was a list at one point in time that was put out of here are the receivers that you can have in a trade right now Higgins auk Johnson Judy Sutton two of those guys got traded Jerry Judy is no longer a Denver Bronco he's now with the Cleveland Browns Deontay Johnson left Pittsburgh and he's now in Carolina with the Panthers three of them are still sitting in their organizations my guess is Higgins plays the year in his contract out on the tag with Cincinnati and auk very likely has to do the same in San Francisco he'd be the most likely of those guys to get traded but I think they're going to sign someone who gets cut who ends up being a bigger name than Byron Pringle but basically being the same kind of guy it'll be someone that when they sign him we go oh maybe this guy will help them a little bit and in the end he's going to be Crowder he's going to be Pringle it's a veteran back of the depth chart doesn't really move the needle a whole lot yeah I I I know exactly what you're talking about it I don't have a great example but I'm just trying to think of like a good name let's say if Carolina goes we're younger now we like some of our young guys we don't need Adam Thelen anymore now he's older but you know what I mean but some someone who oh that's a name he's gonna be like it's not even that level um I'm thinking the Giants cut Isaiah hodgin okay like you know something like that uh that bargain DVD tier exactly yeah like would actually to me start over the guys they have that guy caught a lot of balls yes did did some really good things last year the Cleveland Browns released Cedric Tilman third round pick a couple years ago was like down the depth chart something like that it it'll be a move where you go around the edges really that guy okay uh you know on this team maybe he ends up being better than dami brown maybe Luke mcaffrey is not ready the the Tennessee Titans cut Kyle Phillips or I don't know tayin Burks he's not getting cut he's a former first round pick a couple years ago like something like that yeah I know you mean and then they're second in the waiver order and they you know and they grab uh Nick Westbrook aen from Tennessee because if the question is is there a is there a major move coming I think the answer is no and I think you and iron lock step there yeah it is not major I think they make a move I think there is a wide receiver that makes the team that's probably not on the roster but it's certainly not one of the guys that everyone's wanted them to trade for let alone Brandon IU but want to see what you guys think we'll hit the phones on this next 80063 61067 you're listening to Grant and Danny on the fan e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e Clary metal Chris production today sponsored exclusively by the law firm of condori Morad they're going to lawyers.com be sure to tell them that we sent you to get a discount that's km lawyers.com it was announced today out of New England as the Patriots prepare to come down to land over Maryland and to the X to take on the commanders on Sunday night by the way what a bummer for NBC Sunday night [Music] football no Jaden Daniels nope versus Drake May that was the whole point for them picking this game game that's the whole reason they wanted that Sunday night telecast they're not getting it yeah I might have been able to rise him I might save you save you some trouble and issues here one of those guys ain't gonna play that third game maybe they don't care as much because they still have the storyline of the two picks and you're going to be able to show Daniels on the sideline destroy still plays you'll still get to do a sit down interview with him and show clips of that if you want to but Jaden Daniels not playing Dan Quinn said that definitively today Drake May will play supposedly he and jacobe brassette still engaged in a quarterback competition I'm not really buying that I don't know where you're at I don't think I buy it in in the sense that if it's a competition who's going to start week one I don't buy it there is a tug of war as to who eventually is going to take over or or when the take over happens he's closing the Gap and Expediting the timeline for his ETA yeah I think I think it's a peret month is and then it's stake May time I think that's totally fair they also have a a pretty arduous schedule early on although as bad as they are on face they're all tough ones there's not a whole lot of easy games but if you look at their schedule to start the season New England plays Cincinnati then hosts Seattle then they play at the Jets at the 49ers Dolphins Texans damn I mean that's pretty brutal so that's six games where they're probably best case scenario they're two and four and I can't really find the second win I'm just kind of giving them one along the way but if they're better than two and four God bless them jacobe brette probably should start for for the rest of the season but at that point then they play this is your softer landing spot the Jaguars the Jets at home the Titans the Bears the Rams so if you wanted to give jacobe brassette four or five weeks or something and then a little softer place to put the plane down for Drake may they could certainly do it that way and I still think they're going to but for some reason they've gone from saying jacobe brassette is their starter Drake May isn't competing to now since really the week and a half ago they're saying that there's a full-on competition and may might start I just I don't really see it I don't buy it they also haven't had him start a preseason game if he's competing for the job why does Jobe brassette go with the ones every time and Drake may give give him a fair look if you're actually doing it uh I'm with you it's kind of nuts their first six games I think are against teams with winning records right I guess the Jets didn't have one so it's five of six and then six but if if you view the Jets as basically just Aaron Rogers got hurt and it screwed them up it's like six pretty good teams well yeah I mean I guess that's more direct to the point um and then seven are the first eight against good teams I mean Jacksonville coming off a pretty terrible year some of that is the division like they none of those games are against Buffalo if memory serves but you got your first two against the Jets before the end of October the division and you play Miami twice in the first half of the season it's loaded you have three really good teams like they're three division opponents should all win 10 or more games that's a tough way to live and it's going to be at their expense a couple of those when you're bad yeah that's a really really hard way to live that's tough oh we were talking wide receivers here in DC earlier Mike wants to give us a shout he's in Wheaten on Granton Danny what's up Mike how are you I just want to know that everyone's absolutely bailed on Martavis BR I mean when he was good six seven years ago he was better than Terry mcos he was a beast he he was awesome and if he's got his drug problem sorted out he's only 32 years old this acquisition happened just before they let doson go almost almost like that acquisition made to let doson go I just want to know nobody's talking about this guy like he even exists and does he exist to you guys well let me ask you a question when's the last time you remember a player going five years without making a catch or doing anything playing in a game in the NFL and coming back and being really good I don't well so I'll flip that question back to you by saying I don't remember a guy coming back five years after their last play in the NFL at all this is New Territory but he's gonna be fresh the freshness is there there's gonna be no issue with nobody's questioning freshness you're right that it doesn't happen for good reason Deshawn Watson missed the season has not been the same same since he came back now you can tell me he was overrated if you want to or that the system doesn't fit him or we could find other caveats as to why he's being bad but that's just the fact Le'Veon Bell sat out a season at the peak of his career came back and was never the same after that there are plenty of guys I'm not talking about rehabbing and injury I'm talking about when you miss time seemingly healthy and you sit out and you watch and you come back the track record of that is bad two seasons of trying to come back is borderline Mission Impossible this guy last caught a pass in 2018 his last truly productive season was 2017 and to find his last Terry McClaren level year to kind of quote you it's the first two years he played in 2014 and in 2015 when he averaged 21 and 15 yards per catch that's when he was last day an explosive weapon scary like beloved young player in the NFL that was the first year you and I did a radio show was the 2014 football season yeah 11 years seasons ago 10 years ago we were in midday yep I was in my mid 20s you were my age you were 35 that's right today's your 45th birthday there you go it's a long damn time ago man yeah things have changed they why are people not talking about him that's why we talked about him when he was signed and I I think we were were kind of pouring some cold water on the idea that they just found their answer you know this this guy was uh you know he and Antonio Brown were the onew punch and I mean that's how long ago that was by the way these are 1700 yard 13 touchdown Seasons from Antonio Brown that's when when Bryant was the number two there that's how long ago we're talking about things have changed at all so someone hadn't got passes that long just age different things anybody could have signed him at any point in time over the last you know handful of months and cleared now this is more of a project he was on the practice squad in Dallas last year Dan Quin knows him more of a there's no downside to this but counting on him to not only make the team but step up and be the the replacement That doson was supposed to be right to be the number two receiver I just I'm not that optimistic if it happens it would be one of the alltime stories I mean all time he was in the United Football League so the XFL merged with the usfl this past year they created the UFL the United Football League first year of its existence but it was the equivalent of basically XFL which is decent really legit Spring football play in that league in eight games with six starts he had 14 catches for 154 yards he was not dominant you know he didn't take games over he was not the best player on the field more often than not he was kind of a guy on the team in the United Football League so these are reasons why my expectations are low and my excitement is tempered those are the answers to your questions now if you want to have a different conversation can he help them I I think that's a really fair way of thinking about this yeah it probably can but if you're saying in the wide receiver 2 conversation making up for Jan doson leaving because they've got this guy who will start opposite McLaren and at 32 they just found someone who over the next 3 years is going to go catch 160 balls or something no absolutely not if it happens I'd love to write the book cuz it will be made a movie for the record but it's just not a thing can he maybe get on the field that would be awesome let's let's try for that could he catch a few passes here and there and you know who knows maybe have a 20 Catch season again I'd bet against it but that would be great but I think that's more realistically the ceiling here not that he ends up being an impact performer and we did we talk a lot about when they signed Byron Pringle just when they signed him other than that he just doesn't come up very often it's pretty much the same thing the only difference between Pringle is he's actually been in the league making plays the last couple of years right and Martavis Bryant who has not been so still to me uphill climb just to make the roster for for Bryant it became a a lot smaller Hill after the doson trade though they have two open spots now instead of one for like five or six guys just mathematically his chances just improved big time and is now basically one of the two guys with size yeah it's either Bry and Chaine if you want to keep anyone other than Luke mcaffrey decidedly over six foot but I mean to me he's honestly a great practice squad candidate as somebody that can be around still get his sea legs underneath him and then again you see what happens there there to me there's no rush in throwing him into a game or or or seeing what's what I imagine he'll get some time here this weekend in their third preseason game but just in terms of him having an impact role it's really hard to see let's go to Joe who's in Ashburn out where the Commander's train on Grant and Danny what's up Joe Hey Joe hey hey fellas appreciate what you do guys always interesting thanks pal Hey listen I got a proposal and some I need some advice let's talk about some collateral damage with doson moving my kids went to training camp the other week before training camp we go to a sports store my son picks out of Jersey I said get Daniels get Eckler who does he pick doson oh boy $130 later no he goes to camp he gets he does get signature and then what happens right now right so that's what happened here's the proposal Danny I see you wearing this jersey buddy with the signature I'm thinking it's worth at least a cool 200 but I'll give it to you for 160 oh that's really nice of you um I tell you what here's no here's what here's what we'll do and that this is actually intriguing to me because it's kind of like a novelty thing like I'd be the only one that has that or kind of a deal yeah I W I want you to drive West until you run out of gas I'll meet you there and then we'll do the exchange yeah like it's just start going as far as you can and then at the end just wait for me no matter how long it takes I'll be right there Route 66 good yeah that's perfect just just go to the end of 66 just go Um get my keys right now I'll see you at the end of 66 very are you guys meeting tonight yeah I mean I gotta finish the show first yeah yeah out there yeah then I'll go all right so sir he'll be there you got I'll bring I'll bring a snack too so RJ eat and we'll wait for you yeah dude just nothing but veggies I want a veggie platter and we'll do that anything else are you going to bring Grand Grant whatever you want wings gr come too see I want to I want to see everything I want to bring my phone to video it for the show hey I got points for the red Ro fan if you guys want you know I get you a room let's well let's get a room together come up how about we all have one room you guys have just made my dreams come true all right I'll let you thanks we'll see you there all right very good I like the we need one of those uh like heart bathtubs like Harry and Lloyd were in talking about from granston remember you talking about her yeah but that I that's the kind of stuff I just I feel so bad oh it's a killer right like I I wanted to ask how old was the kid because if he's like you know it's 15 to 17 or something like a younger you know or an older son it's a little easier when my kids hear that players that they watch on TV and that they know we like or whatever are no longer with the team it is a ordeal yeah like a real legitimate problem Shane's in Virginia what's up Shane Commander Danny and Grant how you guys doing today happy Friday man what's up bro hey look y'all got uh start screening your callers man did did I hear that guy last caller said that did Terry the Bry was better than Terry I mean he said I think his point was was a little aggressive by the way I'm not sure if I completely agree but he said early in his career Bryant was better than Terry so Pace wise the one year he only played 10 games but he had 770 yards in 10 games that's that's a really good Pace Terry look who has who look look at Terry had the quarterback now quarterback rid nobody he was on a 1300 yard Pace in that season so I think his point was he was really really good at one point in time which is true at that point 10 years ago your boy had not met my wife of seven years right right hey but here's the thing uh you better be worried about this wide receiver room because what if we have no injuries you know that happens all the time in this league uh I'm kind of worried about this this wide receiver I think they are going to make a move though I really do uh at this point you got to you can't go in there with brown is your number two you just I mean I don't know what they're going to do what kind of move is it going to be Shane is it a headline is it a headliner move is it like a big splash move or is it kind of what Grant's talking about I think it's gonna be no I don't think it's gonna be like that I think it's because the wide receivers right now is pretty much GNA be like the running back situation you can get them in the draft anywhere look here's the thing I think it's gonna be somebody small I don't think it's gonna be like I think it could be like somebody like a just for example like a JuJu Smith something like that but I don't think we're gonna give up a lot of stuff for a wide receiver right now they're not going to pay that kind of price right now for anything right now at that position right now I don't think so I think they got other needs that they need to take care of number one still the offensive line and still cornerback the corner is the going to be the problem this whole year watch and see good news is they's second in the waiver priority for any transaction move they make so every player that gets cut and hits the waiver wire that's available to be claimed they'll have the second crack at them so they can get the second best corner second best receiver second best Tack whatever they want blessed in the DMV just tweeted us I'm gr hson Danny's at funny Danny he said what if that guy does not get sarcasm and actually drives to strawberg Virginia waiting for you guys well his son learned a hard lesson about buying a jersey I guess he would learn a hard lesson just a it's like a family learning some lessons this week a tough week for that family but they learned let's go to Bobby in Frederick what's up Bobby hey Bobby hey how's it going guys good um the Martavis Bryan thing I'm not that big on him but to ask could he come in and replace Jan as the number two receiver I don't believe Jans was the number two receiver we know that now yeah you're right I mean I mean even before they let him go I don't believe he was a number one number two receiver that's why he was playing in the third and fourth quarter preseason games because yeah I would say that's what we found out the last couple weeks yeah so I mean for him to be able to do what uh Dawson did last year that wouldn't be too hard would he catch 40 passes I mean I'm not saying that I don't know what Martavis Bryan's been doing but 40 passes well hasn't been playing football that's the thing I can tell you in the UFL he wasn't able to do that um but maybe I I guess your think thinking is maybe he could do it in the NFL is a little more difficult I'm going bet against that but I guess it is possible I think just let's see if he gets on the field first that'd be nice and I'm willing to readjust on this if I see something like he's going to play a lot hopefully on Sunday night he's an important player let's look into that next who is actually playing with a lot on the line and who do we need to see Sunday night so that we have a better understanding and feel for what they can bring to this team and if they're going to make it or not you're listening to Grant and Danny on the fan e e e e e e e e e e e e e e it's Danny ru's birthday today and we're Grant and Danny you are listening to the fan taking you up to about 6:30 Nat's pregame at 650 tonight it's live in local radio deep into the evening they're in the flagship home of the Nats and the Caps by the way it won't be long before the Caps are back we're well under 50 days out and that is early October when their season start training camp action here before then it's like on the way they'll be playing preseason games next month which is a lot of fun uh with that said though we should let you know that in 30 minutes right at six o'clock it's Grant and Danny's Tony's mailbag a couple of weeks since we've given you G and D's T's mailbag something we've come up with on the show that had never been done before in the history of radio and we're really really proud of it uh Danny we don't pat ourselves on the back very often we try not to we let other people do that but when you come up with something so creative and unique right and original and Transcendent it's important that you stop and smell the roses never before attempted never before executed we're walking into Uncharted Territory you like someone has to go into the breach first yeah when you do that you want to be like hey we just did that like our flag goes down now that's our flag see what I'm saying when everyone else goes by that whose flag is it Grant and Danny's flag yeah and that's why it's Grant and Danny's Tony's mailbag 6 o'clock you're going to ask us any questions you want they'll ask us anything about the show about sports not about sports about life we'll answer your questions that's what we try to do that's the deal that's coming up in a half hour uh before we get to the players with the most approve in the preseason finale on Sunday night Kevin wants to offer one more thought on the receiver room which has been a topic of the day post Jan doson trade what's up Kevin how are you hey guys how you doing hey bud hey yeah I you know last couple days I've heard you in the junk say you know some of the concerns that the staff had about how Dawson was playing wasn't being aggressive or whatever I just was wondering if anybody considered that he might be didn't want to play year and the staff knew it and they traded him and got what they could get when the getting was good that impossible to know I mean without him you're sort of saying something to that effect but right yeah I mean I don't know it's he doesn't strike me as the kind of guy that would pout his way out with three years left potentially on his his his rookie deal but you know who knows you'd figure most I'll say normal most PE normal people would you know you got the new coach coming in you're gonna I want to show the guy I'm the man right and they made it sound like he wasn't like putting enough effort in which seemed odd to me I just don't understand that because when he was a rookie he seemed like wow this guy's going to be good you know and it just disappeared I don't know how that just disappeared unless he didn't want to put forth the efforts I don't get it yeah it's interesting because the semantics or the word choice here is so important agreed like the diction of what we're saying I think it has been portrayed not even purposefully but at times as if he didn't work hard and I don't think that's it at all I think there was a lack of urgency in some of the things they asked him to do there was a lack of aggressiveness in some of of the physical parts of his position whether it was as a pass catcher a receiver at the catch point or getting off the line of scrimmage or showing that you can wrestle and hand fight and some of the stuff you got to do and blocking as well I I think there was some of that that he was missing I don't think that means he wasn't a hard worker I don't think that means he didn't train diligently you know I don't I haven't heard that he showed up out of shape or anything like that like these aren't things it's not like in subordination it's not like the coach is going this he's going no so I just don't like and I'm not saying he was doing that or anyone's done this but I don't like the idea that like his character is being called into question when we've never really heard anything bad about his character that is different than I'm not sure if you're a fit because and this is hypothetical you care a lot about the catching part and not the other part and for me I care a lot about the other part too and if that's what it is just you don't see eye to eye on some of those things or he's not as willing to do some of the dirty work for you and maybe that's a priority for kingsberry than it's been for Eric benmy or other coaches it could be that simple that he's he's just not their guy I actually posted a clip on Twitter the reaction was a mixed bag of people thinking it was interesting or that it wasn't and that's up to each person to decide for themselves but I posted the clip last night did you see this by chance which which one so it's it was from I found this from 2022 this was Peter shreer on the Pat McAfee show and it was shreer talking about the NFL draft matter of fact CLA will you grab that off my Twitter just a couple tweets back it's uh shreer from McAfee two years ago I'll give you the cliff notes on what it was and then I'll let you listen to it and just see what you think but I thought it was interesting you tell me Danny if you do too shreer basically is asked through the lens from McAfee who shirtless like drinking a Big Gulp or something like in the middle of his TV a wacky bit but Sher is sitting on his couch presumably at home NFL networ Peter shreer he's like asked hey you know Cliff Kingsbury really well you guys are best buddies what it was this was after the uh Hollywood Brown trade like did you know that the trade was going down and then he talks about the draft class he's like you know I actually recently talked to Cliff and he knew that he wasn't going to be able to draft he names a few receivers so that's why they made the Hollywood Brown deal but he acknowledges that he thought doson would still be available because he didn't think he'd get drafted where he was uhhuh meaning he thought Washington drafted him higher than he should have been drafted interesting also meaning he thought doson would be available to him and he still went out and traded for Hollywood Brown I take that to mean a couple things number one he thought he was overdrafted number two he thought he'd have a chance at him and didn't want to draft him in the first round and it's a little bit of a tell for me that he wasn't like kings Berry's never loved him he doesn't watch him and he jump off the tape at him a lot of people said oh this is nothing you're reaching but you guys listen to this I'll tell you this okay because I'm not going to put anyone in a tough spot about a month ago oh geez Dr you're gonna put somebody in a tough spot there's only four people that [ __ ] knew so there three people Gonna Know cliff and I went through the draft because it was post combine and it was about to be post free agency and he was like these these [ __ ] wide receivers are awesome all right so I guess we can't play this clip because everyone's using I my apologies I didn't know that uh Pat McAfee loves cursing so there's that isn't that show on ESPN by the way I don't know I I tweeted that I didn't realize there were curse words all over the place I just can't how by the way how does this work that like if we say a word that is not even a curse word but it's inappropriate we might get in trouble in radio and Pat McAfee's just bleep that bleep this bleep that bleep this and everyone thinks it's cute and funny again I don't know I just don't know it's because it's a Disney Pro company ESPN is a Disney company and they allow that I think right Disney's known for that when you wish upon a star and Pat mcab with no sleeves dropping that boms isn't the point take that we have like it doesn't everyone have FCC violations sometimes rules I I again I'm I'm I'm baffled I'm baffled by all of it I I it's well first of all I apologize Ryan and I'm embarrassed that I asked you to play the clip I listened to it a few times I didn't really notice that there were you notice two I guess I had forgotten that there were FWS but it was like oh Pat McAfee okay you're an idiot and then Sher drops one and it's like let's just get out of this let's just yeah never again this has been a great segment we it was really good to play the clip for you I think we did a great job enjoy that yeah that was fun what' you guys get out of that audio 80063 61067 yeah where was I oh yeah sorry just a little little thrum uh God imagine though yeah the Comfort I am constantly petrified with every little thing I say I jokingly I thought said something kind of funny a couple days ago and a couple people were like dude immediately right away like oh my God grant this dude's just shooting from the hip it's unbeliev on live television the confidence the confidence uh okay by the so those things people carry with them hang on before you move forward go ahead yeah I was trying to do you think that's a thing that's where I was going what I described like if in fact he thought doson was available when he was drafting but wasn't overly interested and thought he got drafted too high does that mean kingsberry was not a big Dotson guy or is that a bridge too far it's not because here's what I was going to do these guys are all doing their homework on every player right that it's part of the job where if you are interested potentially in a wide receiver your general manager your Scouts people are going to run things by you as a coach like hey this is a guy we're considering or we like him you know take a look and if he goes you know what I don't see it I don't love it I don't like this that the other thing you saw the evaluation or you probably did some on your own you your notes are um submitted how do you think he fits with your scheme Your Design what could you have him do if we took him as kind of a half outside half inside guy could you find a use for that if the answer is not really not so much then you remember that sort of stuff and of course she carried that with you whereas if you the flip side works too let's say for the sake of argument clearly we know it's not the case let's say that that that Kingsbury had loved joh doson and been like part of why I taking the job is to unlock this dude I loved him in Arizona I was praying he'd get to us in round two and damn it Washington took him at 16 but now now I get a chance to do it that happens it happens both ways I 100% think that's a thing you've got his best buddy saying he knew Jameson Williams would be gone he knew Chris alve would be gone he knew uh I don't remember the other receivers but they'd be gone he didn't and he even says he was surprised that doson and Burks had already been take which by the way is pretty good commentary on kingsberry that he was he was right about all the guys that were really good and he's been correct as well that the guys that get overdrafted that he didn't think should be gone also haven't been that good but yeah if doson was going to fall into your lap and you felt like he's good enough that you don't have to trade for a wide receiver because you like him okay then that tells me Cliff Kingsbury like Johan doson the whole point of the segment is they're asking him why did they trade for Hollywood Brown yeah and he said basically I didn't like my chances in the first round to get one of their wide receivers that I loved that that was the whole point of the discussion so I I did think that was a tell all right two two players that are going to matter a lot in this preseason game we should get into that next here's what we should do give me two on each side of the ball and I'll do the same you got it top of the hour at six o'clock Grant and Danny's Tony's mailbag this is the fan e e e e e e e e e e e on the fan our g& D's Tony's mailbag coming up at 6 line up your questions now you can tweet us at Grand hulson at funny Danny you got a question for us and of course you can make sure to get any questions in you want via the chat on the 1067 the fan YouTube page where you can watch the show as well we are streaming live until we're done tonight at 6:30 uh real quick we did edit and we found the clip I'm talking about just so people can now hear it we got to pay this off I should also point out so the the audio we were playing I was like how is that on ESPN it was from before the ESPN days gotcha when mcafe was on Bandu YouTube whatever he was doing I think they still curse on ESPN somehow and I don't understand how that works but that's a whole different conversation for another day that explains why it was a little more aggressive in its cursing than uh the show is currently on ESPN but here is what shager said about the receivers I'll tell you this okay because I'm not going to put anyone in a tough spot about a month ago oh geez great you're going to put somebody in a tough spot there's only four people new so that three people are gonna know cliff and I went through the draft because it was post combine and it was about to be postf free agency and he was like these these five receivers are awesome and there's a lot of them and we have 23 like and we went through and he's like there's no way I'm getting one of these guys there's just no way so he knew knew that Jameson Williams who he loved and he knew that uh olve who he loved and he knew that Wilson and London were going to be gone I don't think he might necessarily expected Burks and doson also to be gone so they had a plan I respect the hell of it they had a plan let's go make a plan and get a wide receiver that player individually mares Brown was highlighted this is one of Lamar uh one of Kyler's best friends from college so he went into talking about going and getting by the way which is also funny one of Kyler Murray's best friends from college to play wide receiver with him funny right there's a Jaden Daniels Brandon I go flashbacks joke in there somewhere but I don't know how you could tell me that's not interesting that he didn't think Jan doson would be drafted where he was and oh by the way he loved this guy he loved this guy he loved this guy and he traded for a wide receiver because he was fearing they were all GNA be gone like all right tell me I'm I'm looking too deep into something or trying to find something if you want to maybe I'm not telling it's an end all be all I'm just saying it's interesting and it might be indicative of that plus I don't know Jan doson not being here anymore I don't get the sense Kingsbury was a big doson guy Paul's in DC what's up Paul I agree with you grant because at the end of the day when you really look at the situation one of the things that I learned with my father being in sports is that these agents and these general managers and these coaches they get the guys that they want and I think that from the very beginning they didn't want Dawson how can you justify bringing mavius bran in who's older than me probably and and and and letting go Johan doson and matavia has been out of football for the last two three years now here's another point he's a first round draft choice so even if he wasn't what you thought he was you still will give them the benefit of the doubt you still got Jamon Davis on your roster so I mean like and he definitely hasn't been more productive than Johan Doon because Jan do first year people was talking all pro rece so I mean like at the end of the day they just didn't want and it's just like that that that person that you get a job with and the new manager comes in and all of a sudden all of your work started getting criticized but before you was the best employee on the Block so that's all it was they was looking for stuff to get rid of them now they attacking the young man's character and I can't respect that well I don't think they have to to be fair I have not heard or seen them attack his character at any point I give them credit for that that's an old regime thing I don't think they've done that I think maybe they've explained Away part of at times what they weren't intrigued by and it it was just not a schematic fit for the things that he doesn't prioritize that they do but I don't think anybody has spoken negatively about his character yeah so it just it always comes out negative because he's not here anymore right like there's a reason he's not here and so then it it clearly isn't we he's not here because we love him and we can't wait for him to catch 80 balls this year right well it's obviously it's not going to be that but when you heard Cliff Kingsbury kind of hint to it talking about him his his scheme his style and really what Dan Quinn wants to do like everybody is going to be violent everyone's going to be physical and what are you doing when you don't have the football that kind of gave away the business to me basically not again not that John dodson's a bad dude or he's lazy or's insubordinate or he's a malc Content it's that that's not a skill set that's not where that's not where he's the best he's not you know uh dvo Samuel away from the football you know Road grading for Christian mcaffry on a pitch play that's not what he's great at at this point and they're probably going to keep some guys that are all right so Danny let's get to the players on each side of the ball you're most excited to see play in this game that are likely to go we'll start on offense give me two names Cass Allen I want to see they're intrigued by this right so it's kind of position switch I think they view him more as a as a gadget maybe a Swiss army knife some receivers some running back Etc what do you have involved you should dominate a game like this Bryson taine for me the Big Six foot4 Wide Receiver undrafted at a Stanford last year was on the P squad has had a very good camp I I'd like to see him be given some opportunity whether it's fades in the end zone or some jump balls middle of the field down the field just give him an opportunity to show that he can match some of the size and athletic traits to being able to to help you in a game and maybe be viewed through a Different Light Michael Wy go ahead dude get the ball tote that rock I want to see is he is he some I don't think this year because you've got some more senior guys ahead of him some guys with pelts on the wall and who also still young enough to do some things but is this a stash player that all of a sudden one of those dudes that burst on the scene maybe the end of this season or next year uh the aforementioned Martavis Bryant because I do think there's a roster spot there to be grabbed and I I don't think it's a coincidence I just went with two guys that are 6'4 that are the only big receivers basically in the room I don't see any commonality there I really want some size on the back end of the roster even if it's for a couple of plays you draw up in the Red Zone red area goal line whatever it is those two guys taine who's young with some upside Bryant who is not and probably doesn't have a ton of it but might be able to help you a little bit um those are two guys that I'll definitely be tracking that I think in some ways are playing for a job on defense I've Loved what I've seen from KJ Henry I think it's not being talked about a lot but he's been one of the better performers in the pre-season and I really liked him in training camp when I was out there the few days that I got to see as well he is on my roster I think he is the fourth Edge rusher you've got Armstrong Ferell Fowler and then Henry would be fourth I think javante John Baptist has a good chance to make the roster as well the seventh round pick at a Notre Dame but give me KJ Henry as a guy that I'm watching who's on the bubble Tyler Owens I just want I just want to see more I just want to see him do stuff I want to see him unfiltered I want to see him running around making plays if you feel it Chase it Chase it if you feel it Chase it I was trying to get on board with you there Glen pal twister reference gotta the character's name in Twisters that Glen pal plays he's like a YouTuber he chases storms is Tyler Owens is that right and his catchphrase is if you feel it Chase it is Jam Davis gonna play I would absolutely think so then that's my answer how could he not yeah that's my answer then because you mentioned you mentioned four defensive ends is Jam Davis defensive end is kind of or is he gonna go back to Lineback or sometimes in packages fascinated to see this development had a great play last week I like that one I'll give you a DB I'm going to say Noah IG Bagan who I think has shown pretty decent at the nickel seems like he's on the roster at corner uh he could cement that with a good performance I think he will be in for Washington I like his game and they know him from his time in Dallas all right grant and Danny's Tony's mailbag is next you guys get to gonna have to do the Grant and Danny's Tony's mailbag without darus is jingle because darus was not here today right you don't know who just walked in that door who darus is he here everybody amazing hey buddy wow darus [Music] Here Comes Grant Danny's Tony's mailbag Here Comes Grant and Danny's Tony's mailbag do you realize Clary you hit him up 30 minutes ago tell him we were doing this and he came in on his off day he did and this was actually something that kind of came down in the wire because he was like I don't know if I'm going to be able to make it in time and I was like dude like I think he'll be good you have until six but he walked in all he wants to do is sing the song though that's all he came there's no room for any follow questions I was going to ask him a quick question about coming in yeah I mean darus would you like to speak you can just talk darus he doesn't want to do you have to okay but the commitment Here Comes gr Danny's Tony's mailbag we know yeah here comes Grant and Danny's Tony's mailbag well thank you for coming in De we do appreciate it love you Dad let's go to Mark you know it's from right of course has that been from old schools no it's old school oh definitely it's when uh because he's just taking a gulp of something and Vince vongh or no um uh uh what's his name Mitch or why my his name uh Luke Wilson his character is like Frank's dad's here I haven't seen him in like 10 years and he like is just finished taking goes oh love you Dad ah let's go to Mark and Reston what's up Mark hi Mark what's going on [Music] guys um are you my well I your beautiful pipes there he goes [Music] yeah here comes gr Danny's Tony's [Music] mailbag Here Comes Grant Danny's Tony mail gorgeous Dary just texting me from the other room by the way what's he doing uh Mark's in rest and as you know Mark what's up that just made my day thank you guys thank you daryus espe um look my my wife and I listen to you guys almost every day and I need you to know that that jingle specifically for Danny's Tony's mail pag has become a staple in our marriage it's something that we sing or whistle much more often than I would like to admit we'll take we'll take a random everyday thing yeah change the words yeah here comes breakfast with some bagels like totally I get it I get it I think I think it to my dog all the time when he's hungry or wants to go outside or something along those lines so thank you darus for for touching my life that really means a lot but uh my question I just need to know how did this jingle come about I need to know the Genesis of it oh very good uh so well I guess this is the point of the segment is to to pull back the curtain a little bit I got to tell you guys we're not the first ones to do Tony's mailbag how could you betray but really everyone's trust uh this was the original Jingle was that tune for Tony's mailbag which was the Tony corn Heiser show where he would like read emails I think and so we just had darus recreate it in his own voice and that was kind of the bit yeah that's pretty much it there's not a whole lot more to it it's not real glamorous although I will say the first time we heard it we kind of went like like jokes aside everyone was nervous at how are we gonna voice it what are we going to do like who's singing it no one knew was going to sing it and like there's like I guess I'll sort of do it I mean he would rather eat you know I don't know eat a worm to do that and and he did a really good job and that's why he always has to sing it live every time and each one is a little bit different just very to listen for it slightly different than the others uh let's go to Carlos in Alexandria Carlos before you ask us your ask us anything question on Granton Danny's Tony's mailbag uh when you're ready tell darus to hit it get it dares [Music] Here Comes Grant and Danny's Tony's mailbag Here Comes Grant Danny's Tony's mailbag all right Carlos you're up first of all Darius darus needs a he needs a raise I agree with we agree with that yeah I mean he came in on his off day he drove in to sing this like 12 times and then go home what a guy and secondly in a semi-serious moment here great it shows you're still a reporter first grant I'm I'm sorry I didn't even hear what you said you broke the cruise the cruise the Cru great scoop great than here I want to ask you we're in we're in this political season right now hyper political season and I'm want to take you back to Super Bowl 36 you interviewed Rudy Giuliani what do you remember about that yes I did what a great pull by you unbelievable car here's what I remember about that and this is how much time has changed since then and thanks for the call Buddy he was a loved figure at that time so Super Bowl 36 Sur around what year is that help me that would have been early 2000s oh so like that okay it might have even been the year it was it was just after September 11th actually um that Super Bowl so is that Patriots Ram Super Bowl 02 Patriots Rams in New Orleans I was there for the Letterman show uh I had joke writers that walked around with me and my parents sherone uh whoever of my parents was with me my mom my dad one of them would have to take me on every trip so that given week it was me app parent joke writers and some audio and video people for the Letterman show kind of traveling as a pack uh we'd go everywhere in golf carts and stuff all over the place and what I remember about that particular interview what he's referencing is on the sideline before the game down on the field ahead of Super Bowl 36 Rudy Giuliani was standing there and the joke riters thought it would be great he was still at the time the mayor of New York City yeah and it was post September 11th when the country was galvanized and had come together and truly this was one of the the few times in my life back then like people wouldn't you know young people wouldn't believe this it was not as um partisan and there was not the the fervor and the hatred for the other side that there is now that's a newer thing over the last few years and it's getting worse and worse and worse but back then post September 11th we came together in a way it sounds like a Cheesy magazine now everybody was on the same team for a couple you know a year or so after that probably and for a few months it was just like red white and blue versus everybody like we're taking everybody on so anyway Rudy Giuliani had a pretty high approval rating and people liked him and and he was in New York or whatever so we went up to him it wouldn't have been as divisive as talking to him or anybody like him now um politics were different and I I asked him about the security getting into the stadium and they basically were like ask him uh if you got frisked coming in here did anybody pat you down did they check your jacket and the whole bit was I asked him a bunch of questions about like why they let him in without checking everything because everything in New York was about security and whatnot and I remember they only used one line because what what happened with the Letterman piece we put together for the Super Bowl is they went with like quick hitting comedy yeah yeah yeah so it was like there's a line it's the quick jump Cuts between the different things I'm interviewing Miss America then I'm like standing there with a bunch of cheerleaders trolling some girl at my school that said no they wouldn't going to go to the dance with me then you see me asking Giuliani about getting Frisk and he says my car got frisked and that was like the one thing that they put in there for him but I remember he was he was pleasant he like you know patted me on the head and hey little kid you know whatever he was a nice enough guy uh but it was I mean I might have talked to him for a total of 50 seconds and you saw five of them on the The Skit but actually yeah it the amount of things that like with time change like in that story The this like Letterman piece uh from the Super Bowl I ask Miss America mhm I didn't know what this meant at all for the record it was just a joke that a joke writer handed me while I was talking to Miss America I said what's Donald Trump like and she says you know I've never met Donald and like that made the video yeah so like at the time I'm like I know that guy from uh little rascal he did Miss Universe he was in Home Alone too no it was like Little Rascals in home alone but there was like some controversy oddly enough between him and like uh Miss America pageants or something whatever was going on at the time I don't know and I asked like Miss America about it she's like oh I've never met him I didn't think anything of it and now you watch back on that and you're like oh my God that is that that's something you know some of those things didn't age uh as well as you'd like but anyway that is what I can remember about the Rudy Julian that's great let's go to Marco and Largo on Grant and Danny Marco when you're ready so is darus one and a two and a one two three go hit it daryus Here Comes Grant and Danny's Tony's mailbag Here Comes Grant Danny's Tony's mailbag what you got all right so I want to know guys what is an iconic sports moment you love to live out so for example you hit a homer in the bottom of the n9th to win a World Series catch a Super Bowl winning touchdown perhaps or hit a buzzer beater to clinch the NBA Finals any of those great one great question to me there's nothing like that obviously because I dedicated my life to it but that home run that Joe Carter moment right or that you know it's your team loses if you don't and you win if you do and you do you hit that bomb right just because it's so damn hard to do shots Go in all the time right there's hund some points for each team per game and not 100 homers per game you know it's like this special rare unique sexy thing that will last forever I mean buzzer beers have lasted forever I mean Grant Hill shot in 92 you you know exactly what I'm talking about soon as I said that not Grant Hill Christian ler Grant Hill through in the past but like you know those moments that World Series winning home run there'd be nothing like that I think I would go with that one's hard to top it really is maybe a clinching sack fumble you know where you it takes a little bit of everything the mental of beating the guy in front of of you with a move you know the physical of the strength to win one-on-one get to the quarterback separate him from the football there there is something to just like rattle in the bones of a QB you've been hunting all day long the ball comes free that Brandon Graham moment against the Patriots the Eagles pass rusher who won the game with the sack and then you're all by yourself in the middle of the field to do your sack dance or I probably would just go out to the middle of the field and do like the B boy cross my arms and just kind of like have my moment maybe you put your palms up D'Angelo Hall style and just stand there in the middle of the field I think that'd be pretty that' be pretty good too something physical like that but a walk-off home run is pretty strong yeah especially because he was trying to not let you hit it and then you did oh and then he's got to like put his head down and trudge off the field while I'm going ham I got a question on Twitter that I love here that we should hit uh let's get to this one dar dar you mind going again daryus thanks [Music] Here Comes Grant and Danny's Tony's [Music] mailbag Here Comes Grant Danny's Tony's mailbag on Twitter what is your and Danny's NFL Sunday routine walk us through pregame all the way up to Sunday Night Football General food setup Etc you're normally busy and running around all over the place MH so I'll I'll I'll go there's if there's the closest thing to routine because of my son's uh Sports schedules uh but I'm there I'm either at driving to a game taking the kid to the game bringing him home uh dealing with the other kid it's basically everything is active and crazy and insane until about 1255 at that point there's an invisible wall that goes up and everybody knows we're going to go do our own thing maybe mom's taking them out for errands maybe the kids are in a different room playing video games whatever it's now dad's time and I sit that buttock down on that couch and the Washington football game is on the commercial breaks are Flips to Red Zone I'm a master of timing uh I'm also recording the Washington game just in case I miss a play I can rewind it and go back uh and see it in person but I'm I've gotten really Adept at just having that instinct okay it's time to change back so you don't miss anything uh but we watch the Red Zone computer's open to All Things daily fantasy um and regular fantasy so all the NFL information is pouring into my eyeballs for me to consume so there's no activities on Sundays for us uh we're at home we will always be at home and I don't make light of this I'm not proud of this but it's just a fact I'm a very bad husband slightly better but also a terrible father uh during NFL fall Sundays so that's just my day that's my thing and everyone else and kick all the Rocks uh so what I do is Sunday morning every Sunday I have a baseball show on Serius XM from 8 to 10 where I talk about prospects that show ends at 10: if we didn't go to church the night before I normally have to do the 11 to noon Mass unless there's somehow I can finagle out of that with job responsibilities or otherwise and maybe have a little chat with the wife about it but generally speaking that's got to happen by noon I am at home watching multiple of the pregame shows I have a three TV setup during the football season so normally I've got what is a 90 inch screen on the wall mount I've got like a 60 inch that I have on a all the time like tonight I'll have it set up for baseball football whatever that's next to it but I will out a third TV for NFL Sundays um as of noon I've got Network ESPN and fox CBS gets the shaft on pregame for me honestly I don't know why that is all the pregame working and I'll kind of flip back and forth with the volume based on what features on then I've got a laptop going where I have a website I use NFL website to kind of get you know they give you live play byplay and a bunch of stuff like that uh one o'clock if the commanders are playing they're on the main TV red Zone's on the second TV third TV is normally reserved for either uh whatever team Kirk Cousins is on or some other NFL outfit that I'm interested in that week uh so that's kind of the breakdown of of the televisions and then on the laptop I don't watch any other games I just kind of have my fantasy roster Twitter you know what that kind of deal um and then when the commander game's over it's Red Zone specific to snacks and food oh yes we always have Coke Zero and Cape Cod chips and hell of a good dip I have those during the commander game uh if we do other kind of snack foods that's fine four o'clock window for a traditional one o00 commanders game is normally when we do our meat that's either going to be something out of the crock poot it'll ribs a lot of the time it could be buffalo wings but we do that and then we do dinner before Sunday Night Football um I will sit down around 11:45 to 12:15 on the couch uh I will not leave that couch other than to go to the bathroom or to grab some type of uh until midnight after Al Michaels or now Mike too signs off from Sunday Night Football and it goes 1 four short little time there for Sunday Night Football I hate that time in between by the way uh it's a little bit tough uh but you get to see Jack Collinsworth which is always a thrill that's a positive and then uh Sunday Night Football and then at the end of the night it depends how much energy I got stick aside there's sometimes where I'll watch a game or two on Game Pass like just to see all the cut-ups of a of a game uh if not then I'll you know maybe hit the bed early at midnight and uh next day start watching some of the Recaps I by Tuesday I try to watch every single game via NFL Game Pass uh snackwise the thing that I omitted The Falls is my wife time to shine also that's when all the the baking starts she won't do it during the summertime understandable because that's heat just too much heat in one home it's heat inside hot outside Etc so the oven gets involved it's all the things that you would think about when you think of baking whether it's delicious desserts or to your point Crock-Pot usage or things that get hot so it's uh it's different dips it's like a crab dip situation some chili those sorts of deals uh there's always a game Meal which is delightful did you see this is like one of those online things that I'm sure everyone's already seen but there was like a guy who gave us wife like a two weeks yeah notice before football season that like I saw those starting last year resigning from work or something I don't do that nor would I but like I I might as well do something like that like hey it my wife already knows but like you know what the month is right every Sunday and a lot of Mondays most Thursdays you know the you know right it's me sorry it was good knowing you Tuesdays we we could do some things early yeah early on there was a conversation and was heated people were were a little bit irritated where R exchange yeah where I you know and again this I know this is going to be say like Danny's such a tough guy he like no no no not at all well you are a tough guy I'm very tough but here's what I said I ended up having to say this league is my job like like do you have to really watch every game are you really watching the this this at four o'clock afternoon game between said this league is my job so yes this is it like this is part this is work and I will add to that there are two types of people there are people who understand that mhm and there are people who do not MH so like whenever I'm at a family party at my parents house and like relatives cousins Aunts Uncles whatever are around you know the idea that I'm going home to watch a football game is like really the part's going on like why would you do that I'm sure it is like that's rude like if you all G agree not to talk it's it's hard to you know just just stay here and watch it it's like no no no I'm not like kind of watching through the room through bodies like this is yes it's a cool job but it's a get it's a get to job it's not a half to job but would I also be doing this if it wasn't my job sure but now I got this is lock in time now the 1:00 the 4:00 window when they're not playing you know the the Sunday Night Football the The Game Pass stuff little bit of that is both I want to be really good at my job I think it's what makes this show different as we actually know what we're talking about and we've watched games and we study things um you know that's hopefully what works on this program but it's also because I really want you know what I mean it's it's the other one too it's also cuz football's the best and I love it more than anything else other than my family one more darus just uh see Danny if you want to empty your magazine over there figure out what you got [Music] yeah here comes Grant and Danny's Tony's [Music] mailbag Here Comes Grant Danny's Tony's mailbag way go please I just don't want to make him wait can we clap it up Budd have a good trip home here any more time he probably gets the bill for the day so we got to get him out here he's already gone uh this is this is a two these are two questions but one I think could be very short um this is via the YouTube chat have you ever successfully resolved an issue with a corporation using their automated customer service system I'll let you go first no me no okay next question by the way great question because he's just trying to put ball on a te yeah if we had more time it would have worked seven minutes from now Danny would have been losing his voice that's exactly correct uh last one uh your thoughts on the acolyte being canceled do you want me to take it first or do you want to you go first and then I'll give you my thoughts justifiable it's the right call so we need to not reward bad things like when something is bad whatever the case right whether it's bad behavior a bad show uh some bad thing we shouldn't go yes let's sign up for more of it there's too much of that in our society so the show was muddled and I think was poorly written I think the pacing was weird they weren't sure what they were doing at times uh they also had a in my opinion an unforgivable portrayal of the Jedi you can't do that you can't make these guys neutered dummies who are conspiring and keeping secrets and uh you know sort of uh space bullies it's not what the Jedi are that was wrong I know it's a different direction and I appreciate that I like I'm welcome different voices tell a good story there were great elements to it though that's what the shame of it all is there were some really cool things and good bones and some great combat scenes honestly as good as we've seen frankly since Disney took took over Star Wars if I can be so bold to say that so it stinks that we're not going to see more kind of in that time and space and I hope it doesn't preclude them from ever exploring it again because you and I have talked about this GP ad nauseum the high Republic era is ripe for straight great storytelling this is your favorite time that you've never gotten a chance to see you you conet to me I can't remember how long ago it was I think was in the springtime you're like when are we ever going to do something there I've got Old Republic because I played nights of the Old Republic and codor 2 for that matter on your old Xbox system but you never got to see this they gave us this and it just missed the Mark I feel like so it's right that it got canceled but it is a bummer that it maybe means we don't get to see anything from there again so my thoughts yeah go ahead I thought the decision was justifiable I thought it was the right decision I don't want to reward bad things I thought it was a bit of a muddled show y I thought it was poorly written I was not in love with the pacing uh in opinion just my opinion nobody else's thought it was an unforgivable portrayal of the Jedi you cannot you cannot make these guys neuter dummies or space bullies that keep secrets we all know that um and I know you disagree with me on that we've talked a lot about Point op uh I'm all four different voices and great elements I thought there were some good bones here great combat scenes particularly like just as one of the things that stood out to me this is incredible you're able to do that that fast are you a stenographer as good as we've seen probably them do one of these shows since Disney took over Star Wars for me that's just my opinion yeah wow um and I'm probably the only one that thinks this but I think the higher Republic era is right for storytelling um I just can't wait to see more personally I think they need to do more in this area Old Republic codor 2 among you know those kind of options um but this did miss the mark for me dude I know that's a bit that's incredible I just that's my I'm just saying that's my take no I get it I it's I think it's a pretty good take i' cosign it I should done the uh the will Ferell delivery from uh old school where he like I just out IED out I just blacked out U James Carell says I have nothing I that's correct that is the Grant and Danny Tony do it man mailbag it is time to get you ready for Nationals baseball you're Nat starting lineups and pitching matchups are presented by the window man since 1989 the window man has been the educational window company get your free no pressure no mess at the window man.com or at their Fairfax showroom behind McKenzie Gore who I can just add editorially could use a good start it's been a bit of a scuffle for old McKenzie Gore here of late leading off playing right field Alex call Batting second and left field the jameswood batting third at first base W Pez your cleanup hitter Kar Ruiz Andre chaparo is your DH batting fifth ilaro Vargus playing second base and batting six batting seventh playing third your guy my guy our guy Jacob young batting eighth playing uh playing center field and theim Nunes gets a started Short Stop CJ Abrams gets the day off yeah against the tough Lefty Garcia and Abrams both out of the lineup B to sit I suppose James Wood getting thrown to the Wolves good luck Chris S who could win the sa Young Award one of the craziest Renaissance Seasons we've ever seen 104 Innings about 100 140 Innings 190 strikeouts and a whip of one he's looking to improve to 15 and three on the season with a 2.62 ER opposing Gore better last time we saw McKenzie five and two3 five runs because four scored in the final inning the six that he pitched few of those were after he left the game against the bullpen is inherited Runners as well so want to see him he took one baby step now maybe he takes another one and he gets his act back together here down the stretch the big Nationals news on the show today uh go back and listen to the
