the aim of establishing this position is to put the funding of pancreatic cancer research in Ireland on a more stable and promising footing and that's what Pat wanted when he said about his fundraising in 2019 I am truly grateful and honored to be here today and I really want the community listening uh to know that I'm able to take up this position as the pat smallen chair in pancreatic cancer because of you you have put pancreatic cancer research in Ireland on the map you have supported research programs over the last few years and through the vision of establishing this post I now have a huge opportunity to work with you to really deliver a worldclass program for patients on this island the fund that he created includes new treatment and research options for 174 patients with pancreatic cancer at no cost to themselves or to the state when you have the clinical infrastructure and the research infrastructure you then begin to attract clinical trials and every patient with pancreatic cancer should have the opportunity to participate on a clinical trial delighted to host the pat Mullen chair and pancreatic cancer will allow us to build a International Quality program in pancreatic research which will also enhance clinical care of patients with pancreatic cancer thanks to the unwavering support of the racing Community many friends and a lot of people who've been affected by pancreatic cancer we've been able to to continue this commitment to the long-term funding of pancreatic cancer I would encourage everyone to continue to support the wonderful work of cancer trials Ireland any way they can including the pat smullen race day at the Kura I would also really like to thank you the horse racing Community here today to Francis and her family you have no idea of the difference that you are making by this continued support and by these events it is amazing to see that in the face of a problem you have come together as a community you should be extremely proud and keep doing what you're doing and together hopefully we can really create a world-class service and help to really make a difference in this highly fatal disease [Music]
