so when I was in high school I was a terrible student um reason being I just didn't apply myself um I knew I was smart but I understood that uh I just wasn't turning in the work on time I wasn't doing the work so uh nonetheless when I finally graduated I winded up doing construction um and I was doing construction I was like 18 or 19 years old and everybody out there was either in their 30s 40s and 50s and then they had been doing construction for 20 years 30 years so a lot of what I heard was you don't want to be out here you don't want to be out here like go back to school um and I wanted to go back to school but I just didn't have the confidence to do it um and I wanted to be an artist so finally I just started working construction part-time and then I signed up for classes um and then little by little I got better at school and that first year here changed the course of my life because it allowed me to go all the way through my academics um in terms of getting a bachelor's degree getting a doctorates degree and then wind up teaching here at RCC so if I can do it then you can do it thank you RCC for changing the course and the direction of my life because without starting back to college um I don't know where I would be so thank you for all the help
