NEXT TUESDAY. THIS EVENING, SAN FRANCISCO MAYOR LONDON BREED SPOKE FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE CHARGES WERE FILED YESTERDAY, AS DID THE POLICE CHIEF. ABC SEVEN NEWS REPORTER J.R STONE IS FOLLOWING THE STORY AND JOINS US WITH THEIR REACTION. J.R. >> I TALKED WITH THE MAYOR AND POLICE CHIEF EARLIER TONIGHT. I ASKED THE CHIEF IF THERE IS A BELIEF THAT THIS YOUNG MAN WAS PART OF A GROUP. HE SAID IT'S DEFINITELY SOMETHING THEY ARE INVESTIGATING. AS FOR THE MAYOR, SHE TOLD ME THE SUSPECT NEEDS TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR HIS ACTIONS. >> HE'S VERY SORRY, GENUINELY, THAT THIS DID HAPPEN, AS IS HIS FAMILY. >> AN APOLOGY FROM THE TEEN SUSPECT WHO WAS ARRESTED IN THE FORTY-NINERS. WIDE RECEIVER RICKY PEARSALL ATTEMPTED ROBBERY AND SHOOTING CASE. THAT SUSPECT, WHO WAS IN COURT WEDNESDAY SEEN IN THIS ALL NEW SURVEILLANCE VIDEO FROM SATURDAY DROPPING A GUN AND CLUTCHING HIS ARM SHORTLY AFTER PEARSALL WAS SHOT. ALSO SHORTLY AFTER THAT SUSPECT WAS STRUCK BY A BULLET DURING A SCUFFLE. EARLIER THIS WEEK, THE SAN FRANCISCO DISTRICT ATTORNEY SAID SHE HASN'T YET DECIDED IF SHE WILL TRY TO PROSECUTE THE 17 YEAR OLD AS AN ADULT. MAYOR LONDON BREED, WHO SPOKE AT CHINATOWN NIGHT OUT WEDNESDAY EVENING AT SAN FRANCISCO, SAYS SHE STANDS BY THE DA'S COURSE OF ACTION, WHATEVER THAT MAY BE GOING FORWARD. >> I THINK THAT'S THE DA'S DECISION. AND LOOK, THE COURT SYSTEMS ARE COMPLICATED. JUVENILE COURT IS A LITTLE BIT DIFFERENT THAN ADULT COURT, BUT ULTIMATELY, WHATEVER HAPPENS, IT NEEDS TO BE AN AGGRESSIVE ACTION, MOSTLY BECAUSE THIS KID HAD A GUN AND THINGS COULD HAVE BEEN A LOT WORSE. >> SAN FRANCISCO POLICE CHIEF BILL SCOTT GAVE A RECAP OF WHAT HAPPENED SATURDAY TO POLICE COMMISSIONERS. WEDNESDAY NIGHT, WE ASKED HIM BEFORE THAT MEETING IF THE TEEN SUSPECT SURRENDERED AFTER DROPPING THE GUN. >> I CAN'T GO TO WHAT WAS ON HIS MIND, BUT THE VIDEO KIND OF SAYS IT ALL. HE DROPPED THE GUN. I DON'T KNOW IF IT WAS A VOLUNTARY VOLUNTARILY SURRENDERED OR NOT, BUT WHAT I DO KNOW IS OFFICERS WERE RIGHT THERE AND THEY IDENTIFIED HIM AS BEING A PART OF THAT INCIDENT. >> AS TO THE TEEN SUSPECTS, QUOTE, VERY SORRY APOLOGY THAT CAME FROM THE PUBLIC DEFENDER. MAYOR BREED HELD A FIRM TONE WHEN I ASKED HER ABOUT THAT WEDNESDAY AT THE SAME TIME, ACCOUNTABILITY HAS TO BE A PART OF THE EQUATION BECAUSE THINGS COULD HAVE BEEN FAR WORSE. >> AND FORTUNATELY THEY WEREN'T. BUT HE NEEDS TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE. >> SAN FRANCISCO DISTRICT ATTORNEY BROOKE JENKINS TOLD ME TUESDAY NIGHT DURING A SIT DOWN INTERVIEW THAT IT WILL BE AT LEAST TWO WEEKS BEFORE SHE DECIDES IF SHE WILL TRY TO PROSECUTE THE SUSPECT AS AN ADULT. THEY'RE LOOKING AT PAST CRIMES, ONE OF WHICH HAPPENED IN SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY, AND ALSO GO
