Believe TV and follow us on all the socials guys I'm very lucky today this man needs no introduction one of the greatest to ever play we've got Rams Legend and Hall of Famer Marshall Faulk with us hi Marshall how are you doing how you doing good good thank you for taking the time you know I really appreciate it and wanted to get your eyes on what Rams Fans are going through right now uh obviously not the end result that the Rams were wanting heading into Detroit uh first off for you what did you see from that game Sunday night um I I mean let's let's just be clear it we got a we got a very young team um uh obviously a a new defensive coordinator and um just just perfect perfect timing and and I'm G say I'm G say perfect timing for for the game to be played and for um for the Detroit Lions to to do like I think it was the perfect opponent the Rams are a team that starts the season a little slower um that last Drive was we're tougher than you and I think it sent the message to to the Rams but it's what they knew like the Rams they're never in a position to play that type of game week one of the season and um you could just tell that the Detroit Lions they were just hungry they were more hungry they wanted it more and um it was good to see if you just look at the coach's personalities their Dynamics like their their thumb print on that game uh you saw a Dan Campbell team versus um McVey is more of a scheme guy Dan Campbell is a more of a I'm L up and hit you in your mou guy and overtime said it all but but I think there was a lot of Promise out there you know losing losing puka early in the game you saw some guys Step Up um there's just a lot of promise there and and obviously um I was a little disappointed as as I'm sure Matthew Stafford was as I'm sure the Rams coaches were uh you know we once again we have offensive line issues with help and stuff like that but very competitive game uh um for for for week one that was uh pretty damn that's pretty damn good game to be in Detroit to be in that game and have the opportunity that they had yeah and to go to overtime like you said you know they were gritty uh they were down 17 to3 they rallied back 17 points they took the team to overtime but in the meantime they lost uh four their top offensive linemen like you mentioned puka is out how worried is Shawn McVey right now oh sea MC V is somewhat worried Matthew Stafford is extremely worried let's let's let's be clear on that and and that that's why um I'm like I actually it's it's probably one of the better losses that I've seen the Rams take the fact that they were in that game with an opportunity to win that game um you're notos you you just don't go on it you got fouryear top offense lineman out you lose you lose your your number two receiver you you're just you're not supposed to to be in that game and they they had a chance so looking at it for what it is um I was uh I was thoroughly impressed um and and and you lose an AR odonald you lose a lot and we we they they just ran they ran it down our throats in overtime yeah yeah well no and I think it's uh it's certainly uh you got to tip your cap to what Shawn McVey is able to do as a coach considering all of those losses to be able to stay in the game as you mentioned uh take the team to overtime um but let me ask you this as a you know a personal question you lose your wide receiver too you do have a banged up offensive line if you're the guy in the locker room as a running back what are you thinking right now I'm running as hard as I can you know here's here's the reality and you have to you have to deal with this um you you have to play with the guys that are healthy and ready to play and hope that hope that um your GM did a good job at at at filling gaps and picking talent because as good as Les need is you're just not ready to lose for four offensive lineman and and we've we' we've literally been playing musical chairs on offensive line for a couple of years now and it's um it's it's just it you're you're you're not supposed to to survive when you lose that many guys it's just you're just not supposed to I mean listen I watch I watched the Dallas um Cleveland game Cleveland were without their tackles I saw what they look like Dallas was without a couple I saw what they looked like at times um you know the Jets I saw what they look like uh it just you're not supposed to to play well and win at the at that level when you when you're missing a guy let alone four right yeah well and that that leads me to my next question you know who steps up like who do you see needs to step up right now here here's the thing who do we say like we we can't really take preseason for anything it's not really football anymore we're one game in the some of the kids that we have that came from college we don't know how well they can play in the league like in reality you know you you just you just don't know yeah that's that's that's yeah we're gonna find we're gonna find out who's going to step up we're gonna find out who's a gamer and and who's not yeah were you a little surprised Blake corm didn't get a snap yes and like what do you think that Sean it and I'm I'm just G this is me I I'm has nothing to do um the only time that that happens when you're that kind of talent is when is when the play caller isn't sure that not in the running game but in the passing game you know what to do when it comes to protecting the quarterback and doing the right things usually that's what happens at at the running back position the only time you don't get in the game when you're hit when you're that kind of talent is if they're worried about you and pass protection that seemed to be the notion that's that's what they that's all I could think of just knowing the position the way that I know it that type of talent what he brings to the table uh the only thing that for Sean when he questions in a running back who has that kind of talent is what is his ability to help in the passing game and not just with catching balls it's knowing who to get how to get them and can you get them down yeah how does this offense now have to change when you miss four guys up front like that um uh and and you saw Stafford dump the ball very quickly uh is that what you see from Shawn McVey moving forward when you have to adjust on the Fly With You Know missing 60% of your guys on the off line I've never seen anything like it here this I'll be honest like this is what what what sea has to do listen what what he did in that game was you know like hats off to him like I there there's nothing I can say you know but here's when you when you have when you have guys it's so funny how the game is when you have offensive lineman hurt and your best guys aren't out there it hurts your offense but it really hurts your defense and who they are going up against and it and I'm G get back to it it showed like Detroit in the latter half of that game they pushed us around they they bullied our D line and and it's it just starts to affect you in different ways but listen I I if I know Sean he's going to find a way whether it's quick game whether it's play action max protecting to get the ball down the field um he's not going to become one-dimensional and just line up and run the ball to protect those guys because that's just that's bordering football can right now right now he's at his best right now you're gonna get the best of sha McVey I'm telling you that yeah yeah we I mean yeah we saw what he did I mean we just how intelligent he is in terms of scheming uh being able to like you said you know rally back 17 points uh and make it a game can we go back to the the point that you made which is the offense affects the defensive line what did you mean by that um when you're practicing okay when you're in practice that's how you get better you get better going up against the guys you go up against when you got four starters out and you're not the ones aren't going up against the ones you know that that's that's when you get better if you got ones going up against your twos that you're you're going to get in with with I mean there's a couple pro bowlers on that on that damn line at the Detroit Lions you know P Su ain't no joke he's he's not your he he he and he and Rob maybe you know he he's probably a little bit better than I should say a lot bit better than Ry Rob let me be honest but he's he's Pro Bowl caliber guy and now your your your guy's been going up against your your number two guy because your number one is hurt it's just it's just not fair you know it's it literally hurts you more on the defensive side of the ball in the look that you're giving them and the things and the people that they're competing against on the regular throughout Camp that's so right that's so interesting that's so true but wouldn't have thought about that so moving forward you know they have a game in Arizona uh against the Cardinals in AZ um is this now become like you you mentioned a game one in the trenches yeah yeah yeah right listen right now you weather the storm and you and you hope that you hope that uh some of these guys that that let KN brought in that um although when you brought them in you weren't thinking that they were going to be someone that you had to count on let alone let's let's just say you get one offensive lineman out you could hide one but you can't hide four guys yeah you know it's just it's it's you just hope that yeah um they can hold on be competitive maybe win some games until guys get healthy yep yeah and they've got a tough stretch uh ahead of the buy uh week six I want to say it's week six uh let's take a bigger picture at what you saw on Sunday did any of uh any of the running backs in the league surprise you or stand out to you week one oh my God the the the the young guy I was like oh my God Christan mcaffry out there in trouble wow yeah oh my God that that um I I I also have to give my guy credit because I was like I was wondering I was like is he approaching the end I'm okay with saying you know last year I didn't like him in New England but see gellot he looked good in Dallas he looked good I was like man it's amazing a change of scenery some guys around you what you look like um uh Aaron Jones like man I was like that looked good I like like what I saw from him now let's let's just talk about the elephant in the room hey New York Giants and your general manager you gave saquan Barkley up and that's all he did was score three touchdowns in his debut and he just I guess he just likes being in the state of Pennsylvania right we're just gonna say that exactly oh Marshall I love it I love it yeah a lot of great play from the running backs this week it'll be interesting to see how all those matchups extend uh into the rest of the season but uh the Tyreek Hill situation yeah every time I see new video come out I it's it's it hurts me it it's it's painful it's hard to watch and even in his uh you know he's been interviewed by a few media Outlets to hear how he talks about that situation I'm getting Goosebumps right now uh do you mind just sort of shedding some light on that re action for you and how you saw it Marshall yeah so first first before I get into tyre's issue and what happened with that here's here's what I want to say um to every police officer out there um you know we're thankful and we're grateful for you that you put your life on the line and every day that you leave home your hope for you and your family is that you make it back home and anytime you approach a car to do your job um like it's it's it's it's commended we appreciate you now um addressing tariq's situation um we we we always say when we're when we're in the position that we are in what's called for and what's not and and we we really don't know we we really don't know i' I've heard people say I heard the sound it's this he wouldn't comply he wouldn't do this um at the end of the day what what we all have to REM what we all have to remember is that not only are we men but we're human beings and every human being deserves to be talked to and treated in a in a manner uh with respect and dignity regardless of what what what uniform you're wearing what badge you're wearing it doesn't matter uh we're all human beings and I think that sometimes we get away from the human element of things of how to treat each other and how to respect one another and you know we we allow a gun and badge to sometimes dictate who should be treated better fair or with respect and we just got to get back to to treating each other with the respect that we want you know it's um we're we're we're humans now you throw the fact that um he's a 27y old uh black man that's that's wealthy driving a very expensive car uh he's revered uh he's appreciated uh and little stin going to be put on it he's like he has a complex he want to be treated a certain way with respect and and um you know yeah it he might not comply in in in in the usual way which is roll down your window I'm afraid you know it's like I'm I'm from the south I understand you know one one of the things that we were taught early was you know make sure you don't lose your life by wanting to be respected because um a lot of a lot of cops police scared you know and and and poli police and scared um you know the fear for the fear for their lives is always the thought process and um and let's let's let's win the law let's win let's win the battle in court don't lose the life in the street is how I always look at it yeah yeah it what a moment for all of us to collectively get better uh with that video that we saw uh the way we uh heard Tyreek speak uh you know there's so much judgment uh in the world and when I heard Tyreek uh in a media Outlet mention that he the reason he rolled the window down just a little bit was because of the fear or embarrassment from fans driving to the stadium and seeing him you know so that all makes a lot of sense what happened uh with why Tariq did what he did right uh and it just it breaks your heart to to have a 27y old man you know have that happen so I hope we we can get better from that we can learn from that um I think how Tyreek has handled it since then a lot of the things that you say with respect to uh police officers um but stuff like that just shouldn't happen you know let let me let me share this with you with your audience as well um uh you know I've spent the majority of my life uh as a black man um pretty wealthy riding around in nice cars and um whether whether you're whether you've done something or not uh it's a very uncomfortable feeling when those lights are on on behind you and as the cop approaches you and I'm sure he's scared [ __ ] we're scared too you know we're we're we're scared too because we don't know we don't know if that cop had a bad day we don't know if he's racist we don't we we have no idea but the reality is none of that should matter yeah none of that should matter but but it does and you know fear is fear fear is fear yeah thank you thank you for sharing that thank you for being vulnerable about that uh I you know someone like you to talk about that I think helps uh others feel less alone if they're feeling profiled or marginalized and it is it's scary out there uh especially right now there's a lot of divisiveness all I could say make it home make it home win the court battle win the lawsuit make it home yeah uh on a lighter note I did want to I I have two more questions for you of course I want to get to something that you're very passionate about outside of football um but one of the things that was was fun to see on Sunday you mentioned the Cowboys Browns game and someone was announcing that game first time in the booth a one Tom Brady who is a legend and himself uh new to the game of broadcasting it's not easy you make it look easy of course and actually one of the things that you have a reputation about is you predict the plays uh on game day uh for many years and um what did you think of how uh Brady's debut went you know um if you know Tom and you've talked to him uh I I I think people got to see a little bit of his personality and obviously we know he's a very intelligent highly intelligent guy great football mind um and one of the one of the tough one of the tougher things to do sometimes is when you have that football mind is to we call it dumb it down for the audience explain to the audience exactly what they saw without over complicating it with all the darn football terms that we use I feel like he did a really good job of of of just just just being being a being a guy in the bar talking the game and he didn't have all the did didn't need all the super bowls for you to understand what he was talking about and that's when you you sit down in people's living room and you have a conversation with them um I I I for sure welcome Tom into my living room I listen to him and um I'm I look forward to watching him grow because I think as he gets more and more comfortable he understands when to breathe and when to talk and when he can when he can give his Insight that um that that that that puts him in the goat conversation in the game it's going to be so relevant yeah I mean look again he continues to do things that are very hard and he takes risks he takes challenges obviously that's the he's been the you know the universal Underdog uh from the jump being a six round draft pick and I respect that I really respect that I I think it's really hard to do that job uh to find instant sort of expertise at it and uh I I really respect the fact that he's doing it and it is fun to see him now in the booth we miss him on the football field and see him in the booth it's it's really cool and I I respect the fact that uh he's taking on something new and it is not an easy job like you mentioned to be able to be concise explain it in a way that sort of casual football fans can ex can understand that's not easy to do so I thought he did a great job as well um yeah and and and and I I I like the fact that he was he was you know I'll be honest I never heard Tom critique a teammate I've never heard him say anything about what a guy did or didn't do and and he was actually in a in a spot you know like oh I um he should you know this should have happened or that should have happened or I would have anticipated him doing this and that was that was good to see that because what what what's not going to happen is people will not allow you to continue to just for it to be this love affair you you you have to be critical of the things that you see and and and speak on it and here's what I love I love that Tom brings a resume that when he critiques you off here he can call you and then tell you hey here's what you need to do to get better definitely at the quarterback position and probably a lot of other positions as well you know he's a guy that that that that's calling a game who played the game at a high level as well like and it just there there's just a whole whole another level of entertainment that comes with that and and that's why I respect him for taking it on for people so people can see the Legacy and and like the brain and the Brilliance of what Tom Brady was able to put together in his career yeah yeah I mean listen he changed the game of football he'll probably end up changing the game of broadcast uh he'll make everybody show up two hours before call time and prep and study and all of that um but it is it's it is fun to see Tom Brady in the booth on game days that's for sure I know you're a busy man I want to get one more question in uh before I let you go and aside from of course being passionate about football there's a really cool article about what you did at the Paris Olympics you do incredible work with a foundation for a drug-free world I've learned about it it's amazing and you you just became passionate about it uh and you you actually reached out to them in order for you to find a way to get involved which is so generous of someone of your stature you don't have to do that um and then you teamed up with uh Olympic Legend Jackie Joiner Cy uh can you tell us about that experience and also why is this Mission so important to you yeah first of all uh getting a chance to go to the Olympics and spend time over there um it was a first for me uh the you know Summer Olympics they've always been in in that time when football season and um and getting a chance to see the amateurs compete um Olympic Village and all that stuff it's like wow it's impressive to see you know what what it's like when your sport can be a part of the Olympics um amazing and what we what we find what we found was that in in the Olympics uh one of the things that they have issues with which is you know obviously having and convincing these these athletes to remain drug free and you know all the drug testing and stuff that goes on you know if you think about uh four years ago with Shakari Richardson what what happened with her um and uh and and and and providing them the right stuff we come in uh foundation for drug free world then we play a huge role in that because you know the the methodology of just telling kids or people no don't do it it's just not enough it's like you have to provide education and information and that's what we do um we we give we give inform and education about drugs and how they affect you and um to parents who you know you may not grew up in that environment you don't know we give you information on indicators that your kid may be having issues and problems and struggles and to have someone with the likes of uh Jackie Jord Jord or Cy to come on board support the effort and um and lend her lend us her her likeness at an at at the Olympics where you know she still wanted the greats she'll forever be one of the greats um it it says that the message is on point uh to continue to support um our youth the adults the people whom are addicts the people whom are dealing with addicts and just giving them the information and education on the howto in life to get through it to survive to um to to be better to be better and for me it was it was seamless uh this this was this was something that I asked to be a part of you know growing up in um in a drug infested neighborhood um I know the challenges I went through to remain drug free and so I want to provide the resources for kids adults parents people that's looking for help that's looking for information on what's going on with my kid what's going on in my life and how can I make a difference yeah and I I love that as someone who's been personally affected uh with uh Addiction in certain elements of my life uh that hits home it hits home and I think being able to use your platform someone like you a very recognizable face to say hey it's okay to get help and hey here's some information uh and more education and awareness on something like this I think you're just it's amazing you're using your platform for that so thank you thank you thank you for the time Marshall Faulk oh my goodness I am so grateful I got to have some time with you to talk about week one week two let's go uh I will see you soon thanks again Marshall have a good one
