the games that are going on this weekend across the entire State we'll also jump in at the national level uh oh my goodness I was this close to being absolutely dead on with Coach Prime and what was going to happen last night with the Colorado buffal anytime I can sneak sneak coach Prime into the program you believe no I do not coach but we knew North Dakota state was going to be a problem and it kind of was uh a miraculous catch by Travis Hunter and then a a miraculous no call on the targeting also helped the cause so let's kick off the show officially with the cut we'll jump in right here it's time for the biggest story of the day this is what made the cut with JJ and Alex on 975 the KSL Sports Zone they've already got one of those big plays the 64 yd touchdown pass have they got another one yes they do welcome back brt keithy touchdown Utes I mean we've been practicing just for those type of catches just got to make sure to catch it you know cuz it's so wide open but no it's just football at the end of the day we practices so much and just pitch and catch that's exactly what we talked about after the I was talking with somebody about it I go it looks like they're actually just at practice like just running routes kind of before everything 49 nothing I don't know what you expected to happen uh I did not have on the bingo card that dejon Stanley was going to have three catches for 150 yards you didn't I didn't I I did not I did not they said they had a special package kind of dialed up for djon you're going to see him and he was going to be out there making plays but man Riley knows when you got a guy that just as talented as he is with that speed you have special plays all over the place for him like literally special packages this is designed as soon as he's in the game you know it's definitely for him it's crazy deson Stanley's speed in like real time is like insane he's the fastest running back right I mean he's got to be the fastest hands down his explosion was just awesome last night you said RB I think possibly on the roster yeah exactly yeah it's uh it's kind of a crazy thing because we were we were watching this thing unfold and I know that look 49 to nothing you had cam rising's five touchdowns in the first half uh were three of them to brt keithy yes JJ three to Brent keithy two to djon two to djon Stanley uh not a bad start for him there were a couple scrambles right at the beginning that you're kind of going he's the whole building went quiet when he ran and and you know uh I I don't know when you when you see a guy coming back from an injury Riley and you've done the quarterback thing and so you watch him and you go all right here's here's the hard part of trying to hold yourself back from going to two nuts but at the same time like you don't want to hold yourself back because that will also get into your head and then you don't play your game at all so how do you handle a situation like last night it seems like they did it perfectly there is no holding back whether he was coming back from an injury or not a guy that means as much to his unit the offensive unit as cam Rising does you don't play Reckless so whether he's coming back off a injury free season or the you know the the tough injury riddled you know past couple years that he's had that you play the same way you play aggressive you play assertive you just don't play Reckless so there is no you you use the term holding back there cannot be any of that cuz that in my opinion and in my observation that actually tends to lead itself towards additional injuries yep yep yeah yeah that's the whole uh statement that you make when we play if you're not playing 100% you'd actually get injured more and so that's why like some of these rule changes like after the collective bargaining agreement in 2011 uh guys had to you know guess they had to start thinking more and so they were hesitating we had so many injuries in 2012 and 13 because of that extra thought process on the defensive side of the ball of not hitting anybody getting targeted and getting fined uh the injuries went way up in 2012 and 13 so Sly did is there any concerns that you saw last night we we knew what the outcome was going to be it's exactly what we expected we talked about it yesterday Cam's going to have a good first half get him out of the game get the second teamers in get Isaac Wilson out there but from what you saw from your Vantage Point your eyes was that exactly what he want to see out of them or or they still some concerns that you might have with what this team's going to do when they're playing Power for competition oh yeah I mean it's Southern Utah no disrespect to them but we uh it it's not that look but it's exactly what you wanted at the beginning of the season I said like uh there's there's teams that have been together like our 08 team we have been together so getting a tough opponent on that first game is fine because we had that chemistry with all the new assets and new people in place and guys who haven't played in a couple years you need that warm-up game they have so many Caleb loner Landon King who didn't even really get a touch yesterday Makai Bernard you have so many weapons across the board Dorian singer that you got to get those guys some touches some Rhythm so they can get that in-game experience which I think they did you know literally I thought it was like five touchdowns just in the second quarter alone they literally only had one possession in the in in the first um in the first quarter so like that really hindered them but soon as they got the ball the defense started getting off the field quicker cam Rising was back at it and it was amazing to see uh we laughed yesterday about well it was we were trying to make a couple predictions and I go JJ does Isaac Wilson throw his first Collegiate touchdown uh in this game and you said yes and then we kind of had a chuckle and said what about Caleb loner he going to catch first ha well he might not see the field yet it's a little early and he got six guys in front of him probably still and sure enough he goes out there and gets his first touchdown was that more I thought I was more shocked by that than maybe well there are two things I and again 49 to zero was what it was all of these guys and I think that I think that the Run game I don't I didn't see what the the final rushing numbers were but that's one part where you're looking at it and if you're a coach you're they're they're definitely I bet Quinton ganther is going oh he's pissed multiple fumbles by the running back oh look M Mike Mitchell when he put it on the turf and then picked it right back up again you could see his heart you could see the fear in this poor young man's eyes and he he's walking back to the Huddle and the ball is high and tight while he's walking back to the Huddle and he looked and he knew he was coming out of the game and so he kind of hands the back to the ref sheepishly but the running back situation you have the you have these wide receivers that you didn't even get to see a ton of last night either because a lot of most of your work was done with a running back out of the back it wasn't enough place you you had possessions but they were so the quick strikes a lot of plays to run to give a lot of guys touches spreading it out was going to be an issue uh but the running back spot for me I looked at and went they still don't love how they're and they don't really know necessarily exactly how they're going to work this room I don't think that's what I got out of it I mean uh you know interviewing coach with after the game he was talking about how he wasn't impressed by his running game you know they had almost 200 yards rushing you know collectively of course how many rushes they had to have at towards the the fourth quarter to run out the clock but um he wasn't impressed with the running game so that's going to be a focus here going forward cuz you know traditionally I I remember we were down I think we were playing Arizona State when jadden Daniels was at Arizona State we were down 21 to7 or something like that at halftime we're panicking we're like oh this doesn't look good I talk coach at halftime he's just like we got to run the football ball like coach you're down 14 points and they get the ball have like what are you talking about next you know we come out in the third quarter that's all they do that whole Drive draw Place run the run the football we go down and score in like literally a two minute everybody starts to look at each other like all right he knows exactly what the heck he's talking about so coach winingham football team has to have an Implement of running the football whether that's the QB Run game or the running backs but I don't think our offensive line and which I've said you know has been my biggest question you know coming into the season uh is can the offensive line do what they need to but the running game is not where it needss to be yeah you don't love seeing I mean it so djon Stanley six carries Makai Bernard five uh Mikey Mitchell with six uh Jaylen Glover with four Charlie Vincent had four like it's just you know we are wondering if I mean I wasn't asking to see 23 carries by you know this first game they basically said hey we're going to try to figure out what this run game is going to look like and so if there was if there was again we're getting nitpicky because that's what you do after the first game yeah well and I just want to throw in there that it was tough that so many of the touchdowns came on big plays that eats up opportunities to get reps and get get uh you know chops at the tree and so that was my biggest I I caution anybody out there that's going to be worried about the Run game simply because and it just loaded for me but touchdown play 64 yards 29 yards 79 yards and 20 yards like you scored on giant chunk plays and and that just eats out the series so it doesn't give you a chance to really get a Workman like sample uh from from the running back in the old line over 500 yards of offense though for the youths game one uh you've got to love that if you're a Utah F you got to love statistically it's going to yeah they're going to love the Boost more than half of it was passing that's 3 328 yards passing I mean that's a great that's a great start on in a year that we looked and we assumed they were probably going to be and they have the weapons to be able to pass a little bit more it's just whether or not that's what uh coach whittingham's going to want to do speaking of uh of quarterbacks let's listen to uh what cam Rising had to say about being out there his very first game back actual bullets flying in a real game since January 1st of 2023 here's what he said yeah you just look out to kind of the stands and and get kind of get a second to just take it in and breathe and usually kind of that feeling kind of goes out of the the way once the coin toss really happens and then you're just focused on winning the game awesome to have him back obviously JJ this is one of those things where we've been talking about it from the beginning what's that first game going to look like pass with flying colors and then obviously you get your your first uh go at your first crack at at at some power four Talent next week not the best of teams of course but I I think that at the very least what you're going to get from Baylor is some pretty darn good trench play and that's going to be a test it's going to be way different than facing off against you know a 287 lb uh you know defensive tackle who's 5' 10 from from Southern Utah you know what I mean so it it's going to be a different test next week although although uh we know that they're built for this and we know it's going to be at home that's a big deal it was a great way for cam to come back to you know there wasn't the pressure of having to go into the swamp and Come Away with the win I think that would have been a much different task for him so to be able to go out there against Southern Utah and with his with his buddies and his and his guys and go out there and just have a good time and do what they did and get five touchdowns was a perfect way for him to ease back in and Riley I want to ask you this because you played at that level you know what it takes to win at that level what does Cam Rising do for those of us if you can give us a deeper look into what he does as a quarterback that makes him so special that we can't see those of us that just the regular jills watching the game what is it that makes him special as a quarterback that allows him to be so successful do you any do any of y'all watch Caesar Milan no what is it he's the Dog Whisperer oh yeah is what's his name of his show you got time to watch TV so Caesar uh he always is about whenever you got a dog with problems he puts them in a pack and then with with a leader dog and literally it's crazy to watch it you these dogs they're nipping they're biting they're jumping they got all sorts of behavioral problems and then they get in a pack and most of the time it's just the presence of that Alpha Dog in the pack that will correct the behavior there and sometimes the alpha dog needs to go over and put the you know the erratic dog in its place the same thing happens to a de I know I mean I know we're all humans I don't mean to reduce us all the same as like but alpha dog has been said a million times by coach Whit right and that is so in answer your question I say that to say that like you just take an average player and you put him in that huddle with him or in that meeting room and it automatically like yeah calms that person down when when you have that kind of presence that kind of confidence and then the second thing is when a correction needs to be made the correction is made and it and it sticks like it's it should it's made it's made correctly and it should only need to be made once and that just when you have that like as opposed to looking at BYU that doesn't have that guy the the guys don't know who to look through or look to um it's just so much more uh difficult of a um of a situation the last thing I'll say is when it comes to actual gamep plays the last line of defense like no one with quarterbacks in his situation you'll notice pre- snap procedure and other penalties are almost non-existent because he's been through everything I I remember when I got to that level it was even like we'd get in a play and I'd notice the guy was lined up wrong and I was Play Clocks running down and so I would just like change the play or I'd move my H back over so that we could still do what we needed to do rather than having to move like my H from one side of the field to the other which I know was going to cause us to burn a timeout I knew another way within the offense to be like oh we can still run the play it can still be equally as effective we can still Target up the Run game or still get to the same passing concept just through a different way and we don't have to burn a timeout he brings that he bring that kind of stuff which those things over the course of a game and even more so over the course of a season just add up to keeping things positive in your favor so the Alpha Dog leadership and the little things and that makes such a big difference and you saw that yesterday's slide same old cam I mean that's what we were wondering is how what's he going to be like when he comes back he was he was exactly what I think Utah fans hoped he would be in that game and I know look again we know the opponent we'll learn more next week but you had to be happy with what you saw from him yesterday yeah and it's a it's very technical game right like there's a lot of things you can take from it yes it was suu as an opponent but what what fine things can you translate to the next week and the week after that and there was things in that game that I absolutely love cam Rising did an amazing job time and time again in that first half of moving the safety with his ey to set up his secondary look he went through multiple progressions in his routes and I absolutely love that that is going to translate to that so he'll know when what what he needs to look at his pre- snap reading we talk about it all the time J jjon was cuz he's jjon got one job I was like I got to be my guy right but Kam is looking at the matchups and that's what I love about this team right now is we can go through the weapons we talked about it from the monar unit to the speed unit whatever they got they did 14 Personnel that's going to be big Personnel this year I'm telling you the way they run it it's going to be a big Personnel but with all that being said they got so many weapons somebody's going to be open and so all it is is Cam's got to see like who has the best one-on-one matchups right now and you have so many good athletes that can win their one-on-one matchups you're going to have success more time and time again so yes we scored 49 points on suu but don't think we can score 49 points on Arizona on on um Baylor on some of these other teams down the road we're going to be a highly functioning highly productive high scoring offense this year it's going to be awes BYU fan was so glad you didn't say BYU in that everybody knows we're we're going to R we're going to rain 60 on him at home baby after that Kim's already mad because of the last loss so already mentioned it we got two months simmer down oh no no I'm S I started three months ago baby I'm I'm going to go full Brandt keithy and just be like I mean that's a kind of a it's an important game I guess but not like Oklahoma State gu I guess the Cowboys still water that one get my blood going all right uh well he's from Texas so that just means different I guess but he's doing this whole thing too where he's like I you know I didn't grow up with this it's like that old Saturday Night Live he been here for half his life so my primitive mind can't grasp these con your world frightens me with this you to your point Sly he's going to come in he's like y'all remember in 2010 when we kick their butt 59 to 10 and everyone's going to be like hey I was eight he like oh yeah I just I just transferred him from Texas 38-year-old br I'm telling you really quick you mentioned that one of the things that uh just my observation I'm interested I was just looking at the scores and it'd be an interesting to note to see if the uh you know the FBS and the FCS if the Gap is widening cuz I like on Keith's I think it was his last touchdown was the one he caught on the sideline then four Dudes it literally looked like you know me playing with my niece yeah man versus the boys are you talking about when he pushed through to the end zone yeah and I guess what I'm saying and obviously North Dakota State gave on the game they gave Colorado all they could handle but for the most part don't tell Bronco the Gap is is very wide well there there you go I saw I'd be interested to see what the data played out but do you guys get the sense and I'm interested to see at BYU which BYU can't rest on any Laurels but I'm interested I'm wondering if that with the transfer I I don't know I guess you used to have a couple you know maybe a couple NFL a couple undrafted free agents that that were left there that were Juniors and seniors on these FCS teams that you know they'd show out or they'd make some plays or make it a little bit difficult on these P4 teams but now they get just as soon as you as soon as they're good enough to be at that level they're gone look BYU's turned Weber State into Rick's College yeah right I guess that's what I'm saying so second they have a great player BYU's like okay let's go let's go get 100,000 money and go get him they have some money to throw so it used to be it used to be like you could maybe get a little bit cuz you were getting I you could place a place a little bit of weight in your evaluation of a of a team like Utah against a team like suu but I my my inclination is to think that that's diminished that these FCS FBS match especially P4 FCS are even more cuz I know you mentioned New Mexico but talking about P4 to FCS I think are even less relevant than they have been in the past it felt like it right and there were times during the game you watched it and you were like yeah okay let's get through this thing they never got in the Red Zone I me I they the other thing is you used to have maybe a little bit more disparity or a little bit more equality of size but now even just the size was so dispar like I was like who are these 5 eight dudes trying to tackle Keith on and can't even push him out of bounds I know that's a little bit extreme but uh now that could go both ways it could be Utah was that good and will prove to be that good but my my inclination is wondering that because of the the talent being pillaged out of FCF if if that's going to be a continued sh we said bran keii's 38 those kids are 19 even just it's a grown man out there it's true it is become the new junior college right I mean that's the way and frankly like you know that if there's a guy who's got some good tape out there at the FCS level you'd rather have that guy than a high school kid I mean it's just is it's a no-brainer and that's all trickled down and we see high school there's less scholarship for High School Kids uh I want to hear what coach Whit did say though before we get out to the break here because Whit did talk about cam rising and brt keithy being back on the field together uh it's almost fortuitous that they both get this last year with one another here's what he said about it for Cam and Brandt it was a confidence thing you just get back in the flow and get back on the playing field and into live action everybody else will watch the film like I said there's plenty to correct but I don't want to call it a tuneup game but it was a good game to get get the season started off with it's a tuneup game so that's what and that's what you wanted like honestly you didn't want to start with Florida you didn't want to you wanted to get Cam rising out there you wanted to run all the stuff you wanted to you basically ran everything like it was a scrimmage I again I don't want to be disrespectful of delaye Fitz JS program because it is but what's crazy Riley is it's not a bottom of the it's not a bottom feeder FCS program it's pretty middle of the road they're picked to finish third in their conference this year they have a shot at the FCS playoff it's a pretty middle of the road pretty decent FCS team and it and and it was it was it was hard to watch uh at some points where you're like and then when their second quarterback went in and just you know was like when uh Tommy cutlets went in last year for the Giants they just run it around the edge just don't fumble please sneak at the two please let's go uh all right let's take a break we'll take our first break stay right here Riley Nelson Stevenson Sylvester JJ myself we're back next 975 the KSL Sports Zone it's a Friday and we're talking football nonstop stop all football all the time this is another edition of football Friday with JJ and Alex presented by G2G bars on 975 the KSL Sports so and now a third-year sophomore into of the game for Utah it is Brandon rose rose takes a shot toward The End Zone that ball is caught for a touchdown Caleb loner all right I got to admit I completely screwed that up it looked like they were going to bring Brandon Rose into the game based on warming up on the sideline that was a touchdown pass for Isaac Wilson that was a great throw by Wilson what an awkward night for the for the Freshman come in you talking about the broadcaster well for him too no but you know it was a it was a wild thing because it's like the kid couldn't get a break he comes in he throws a pick he he uh on one of the scrambles he gets his foot stepped on and his cleat comes off and cam rising's over there tying his shoe and Brandon Rose comes in for a play and and then uh and then this whole thing went down and the announcer calls you very first touchdown that somebody else threw it so you're like all right I guess we're just have to get the radio call and match it up to the video cuz the first game a little bit messy but you know that's that's the way it goes welcome back we are uh outside of course for Game Night Live today uh JJ and Sly already in the house because they're going to call uh Lehigh versus Bingham tonight here in Lehigh Riley Nelson of course alongside as well all season long we're going to bring you football Fridays and have these discussions it is it is uh it is so much fun to actually be talking about football but we knew this was going to happen too we're like yeah it was great it was great but it was one of those games by midc quarter we were all kind of going all right what's up here there was it was like Hey North Dakota State's me I'll tell you what happened too I'll tell you what happened too is I'm I'm watching this game and I was I was seriously looking at this and I'm going okay uh there are there are so many moments when you're when you're when you're playing a game like this and you're watching the scene go down and and I was just thinking to myself my goodness all the injuries and and again uh I think it was uh was it Keenan was it Keenan Johnson who ended up going down and that one's a bad one and I don't know if uh viahi is if is if his is going to beo I look at both of those and you go you went all camp and what did we say all Camp knock on wood they've had so few injuries that were season ending they've had they've had they've had a beautiful Camp first quarter Keenan Johnson goes down uh viahi goes down I think in the second half right before halftime or right before halftime right before and and it's hard because you don't tell these kids to turn it off they're playing it a th% I mean and and and you see that kind of stuff go down I don't think we've heard anything yet from Utah If It season ending obviously Kyle's going to come out and say something that's awful to see first game though that's one the worst for these well that's why we talk about depth and when you're a power four and this is the BYU's we're going to hope that BYU's taking another step in that direction but when you have injuries like that like Wht says like everybody says it's next man up and you've got to have depth this is why you recruit this is why you develop and we'll find out how much depth Utah has at both of those positions and it's you know I don't think defensive tackle is as much of a concern as quarterback SL but that quarterback position going in on the other side was a big question mark they thought Kenan Johnson was going to lock it down but now he's gone so who's next man up that's important yeah I mean and and Elijah Davis came in without a hitch did an amazing job right we actually didn't know who that who that second guy was everybody was talking about Cameron kahoun and he wasn't even dressed and so like uh we there there's just guys you just don't know who's going to be up but you can trust in Morgan G Shar shaww these guys that put the right guys out on the field and Elijah Davis he went off without a hit I know we talked to Coach Whit after the game he was talking about how they're going to have to make an adjustment for Kenan Johnson being gone T Johnson might have to come down and play that cornerback position keeps Smith Snowden in that nickel position because he's so familiar with it right now but ta Johnson's your wild card he can play multiple positions in the secondary and then he could keep you safe it's not going to be a Rose Bowl scenario for us again in that defensive back field but um I I it's a it's a crappy cuz Kennan was way away from the play yeah he was on the other side the field like what happened and the turf monster I think not contact right I didn't I got to I got to see the film but it it was bad and and uh viam Mahi was a friendly fire like it's just a crappy as you said make it all the way through training camp you do everything right and then the first game first half this bummer did you uh this is the other thing that happened first of all the second quarter when they're I mean they're up uh four scores five scores you know in that in that second quarter and and you're going all right let's get this thing going and it was the longest quarter in the history of of football I thought literally I went back to high school football I was like we're going to have a running clock sure sure could use one not only that I think if you get to 70 to nothing and the like they eventually there is there is actually a trigger there is but well we found out last night off topic Stephen F Austin was up 70 to nothing and they started running clock in the second half you know what I want the second half like as soon they're up 70 to nothing in the first half well here's what I was here's what I thought though while it was happening was oh my goodness Kyle is just stopping the clock like they were stopping the clock they they got is steadily he's always working that's what I'm saying clock management and problem with it of course not because next week it's gonna be against a big it's going to be a big opponent you do the things that you were going to do the rest of the season anyway the stuff that you just you have to get that and and and when he's going it's not two minutes left in the fourth quarter and and you're trying to run up the score they're just running sit run the kicker running into the kicker they did they they uh how was that not roughing they decl I don't know cuz it looked like it was pretty it was pretty big contact but he it was a big dude who hit him too so you're kind of like I don't know what happened what the definition I I'm not sure I think it was just the refs being like we don't want to give him a free first down let's give this going but then my favorite was is that then they get back they get backed up and then they get then they get those yards back and he puts cam back out on the field again and and they keep going and they go oh uh on the on the when the quarterback on that same following series ended up with the uh with the intentional grounding Kyle's like uh no we're not running 10 seconds off nope not doing it we're going to take all situational football you can't you can't turn it off and and it's I mean it it's just like being at camp and you're like we're going live here we have to treat it the way that we do every other every other game and so uh here's what Kyle said about the defense obviously this is a big one they uh just got over the 150 yard Mark for the night JJ put some disrespect on the youth defense yesterday said they were going to give up 10 points in a blowout and I thought well that's double digits come on I'm crazy I don't know what how stupid was that uh here's what wit said about the defense playing uh in the uh in in this game against Southern Utah game one it's always nice to shut someone out I mean that's the ultimate goal for a defense you know we we made some plays over there we had one interception but of two or three sacks maybe four sacks so we made some plays we really controlled the game with our defense really never you know they got a couple runs out out on us but never really gave up any sustained drive and of course didn't give up a score so five sacks last night yeah van fillinger had two and uh Logan fono and Conor tool shared one and then there was some guys late that got a couple oh the dreaded half sack yeah nobody wants the half sack hey man I learned in the league oh my gosh the half sacks and the the half tackles oh they they mean a lot you know especially James Harrison he like I always put my hand down just make sure I get my I I touched Vince Young [Music] I all right I think we're back now welcome back it is Friday 975 BSL Sports Zone Alex cury Jeremiah Jensen of course Riley Nelson Stevenson Sylvester every Friday right here football Friday all right I wanted to get to Brent keithy and some sound here before we went uh before we we turned into robots I want to know what the uh what he said about uh his first game back it's just finally nice to be able to actually get out and actually be playing a game yeah it feels good but uh I've been doing this for preparing for two years and just feels good to know I can still do it and we still got a lot of games to go and just can't wait for next week speak of robots a guy who just is the same in his preparation a guy who doesn't show a lot of emotion on the media side of things but might be as prepared as anybody I love that that I love that he had a three touchdown game to come back and to be back into you know on the three touchdown quarter three touchdown quarter and with Cam too right I mean that's that's what we wanted I think we put that on the bingo card yesterday I don't think it could have gone better for bran keithy in his return that was pretty that was that was pretty impressive uh one of the things that was interesting though and this is what we were when we were wondering was going to happen how was it going to play out Isaac Wilson uh comes in the corner Canyon product they showed Zack up in the stands on the TV broadcast with his dad Mike and uh that's an awesome moment I guess Riley maybe describe some of the uh the feelings of going out there and you know when when you come in in that situation when you're Isaac Wilson and and one you knew that the possibility was there everybody was talking about it like hey they're asking cam about it so you know how long you going to play with the things going like hey you guys you can't give us 50 points yet we got to actually score those points but they did did it and Isaac Wilson got in the circumstance wasn't perfect but uh certainly a memorable start to his to his uh his campaign as a youth absolutely I mean focus on the interception like whatever the fact how lucky is he to be able to throw a touchdown pass in his first garbage time appearance like the fact that lwig even opened it up and let him throw it as much many as he did what do he have nine I think he was five for nine anyway like that's that's pretty good work uh for a garbage time I different OC's have different philosophies now when I was in his position and a true freshman and kind of a different scale like Hometown kid right Logan at Utah State and all that I got a lot of garbage time and a lot of passes cuz we were down 40 and you know before they made me the starter you know so so like you know I I think I threw for like I I got the fourth quart my first snaps were against Idaho I got the fourth quarter we were down 30 something I think I threw for like 160 in a touch but I down 30 something against Idaho can you believe itand oo the dark days 2006 Aggies um no but like uh no light him up 160 and a quarter through a touch and all that a lot different than what Isaac was dealing with being you know obviously it's P4 and but I I'm super excited for him well I mean selfishly I'm excited for him because I'm a fan of of the product of football in the state of Utah and and our prep uh and how much that's come up and and all that and then ultimately my relationship and friendship with Zach and Josh who have come through BYU I've met Isaac once I wouldn't say I know him that much but wish him well and I thought that was a that was a tremendous debut I I don't know how much it'll help him preparing if you know he gets thrown in against Oklahoma State or what you know one of these bigger games or even like a BYU I think at that point he's going to have to continue to learn some lessons there but uh I was excited to I was glad he got as much for me selfishly not so much T tuning in I mean I had to do it for my job tune in for the youths but not tuning in for the youths out of pleasure I gained a little bit fans out of everybody I got some I got some I got some pleasure out of watching you know local product Isaac Wilson show up to the hype and the other thing by the way when was the last time in all of which what's he going on 20 years now yeah in all of his 20 Seasons when have there ever been like an announcement and a media cycle done about who was named backback never so I I love that they've embra Isaac has embraced them as a university he's lived up to the hype uh before and and then they've embraced him in turn and the fact that he's a I mean who's the last Utah product to be to take snaps under there was it Lance rice fres you mean no no I mean just overall for Utah my goodness you what is it Lance rice I think it might be yeah I mean come on now we're talking 25 years oh no no no so the kid from Jordan High School oh and sorry the P Farmer and the P farmer Bry Barnes I'm so sorry Bryson Barnes you're thinking Metro Milford Z the prince of pigs you can't forget about Bryson Barnes my fault there's been some but to your to your point recruit that we know is going to be a future of a program no no no no no no Bry bar had to work his way up as a as a walk-on and and the circumstances allowed him to do that we've not I can't think of anybody that's been in the position that Isaac Wilson is in and that leaves to my next question I had for you is you watched Isaac in high school and you saw his development you saw how good he was his senior year and then you saw what you saw last night what gives you what did you what stands out to you about him that makes you think that he's going to be what they think he's going to be which is their Guy moving forward the Wilsons love football man like we were talking off break well a little bit of prep we were just looking at a clip of diesel Dart Jackson Dart another Utah product out of old miss you know wishing the best for him but his younger brother was was uh I was asking Sly about some of his technique and stuff when he was lowering the boom on some of the IMG guys last week right um but like the dart family the Wilson family like these are families that love football and it shows meaning that Isaac was not trying to ride the coattails of his brother and all the hype cycle and all that he has put in his own work and like he's come there without any sense of entitlement earn the respect of uh his teammates and I think his head coach like wit is not profus of with and he has been praising I he doesn't do it uh disingenuously he only gives it if it's really earned and he's given that to Isaac and so I I uh can't wait to watch him uh diesel Dart by the way you talk about guys who want to blaze their own path he's from the very get goes like I'm not a quarterback like I'm a I'm a wide receiver I'm recognizing he's a different kind of player and embracing that and being the best he can be and and not like look your older brother was awesome but I'm me like I'm My Own player every and every by the way was like you sure you don't want to play qu trying to force something quarterback with a name diesel I got I got to hit people baby I got to truck some people man like credit to Mike Wilson and Brandon Dart and I'm sure they're mothers by the way for creating cultures in that household of like we do not we don't uh buy off on entitlement here like every person is going to be their own individual and have to blaze their own path and earn their own way and I I just love seeing that on display with local products at the next level but you're all going to do it at Corner Canyon and that's the final work right that's it all right uh go out there and be somebody but you got to be a charger while you do it all right we'll come back we got more around the corner we have our would you rather our first one of the of the Friday uh football Friday season we'll come back we're at leehigh high school Lehigh and Bingham tonight on Game Night Live more to go right around the corner 975 the KL Sports Zone listen everybody real life hypotheticals to get your brain churning as JJ and Alex ask would you rather [Music] all right everybody Welcome Back JJ and Alex 975 the KSL Sport Zone thanks for being with us on the program nominate your Youth Sports volunteer that you know in your neck of the woods for the Hercules hereo of the week how do you do it you submit that nomination KSL sports.com contest you listen every Thursday JG and I read those winners off and uh we just love honoring those local volunteers if it's that team mom if it's the assistant coach who just is been the assistant coach forever and just keeps loving on those kids and makes sure that they are getting the attention that they need to be uh good Sportsman have the good sportsmanship and just you know there are people that just take the extra time like we said every year uh JJ we have kids that are in a system that we have to trust and Trust our kids to you know uh some adults that actually have time in their lives to coach and we appreciate that they do it and we got to honor those people we'll do it with the Hercules here of the week they win a $50 gift card and $200 to beehive meals when you nominate them and they get that nod and we'll read that off every week it's a Hercules here of the of the week brought to you by Hercules Credit Union and beehive meals would you rather well let's go back to this question and I'll ask you first uh sly because I think it's an interesting thought of would you rather open up against the Florida or would you rather open up against a team like Southern Utah where you had the result like you had last night but you're able to ease into this into the season a little bit more is there a version of that is there a version of easing into the end of the season I mean like you just had to you had to play Florida because it was on the schedule and you also love the getting having a game like that at the front end of the of the schedule it's easy to promote it's awesome to have a big opponent like that but do you would you rather have the uh you know the the smaller opponent that you know you can kind of tune up on am I the fan or the player the player the player oh that goes into different two different things it depends on the type of team that you have right if I have that experienced team um I definitely want to shock the world get everybody on notice right at the jump Jo wer right at the get-go that we're that we're for real so you know I have that chemistry but like if I got new moving pieces and and I'm trying to build that chemistry got I got to knock the rust off of a lot of guys I definitely got to have my FCS opponent because there going to be more opportunities down the road you know Cam and Brandt back and maai Bernard there was some guys that are back but M Bernard didn't play all the last there was 20 plus new players that took the field last I mean there was a lot of newness with that team yeah this is not like they they're rolling at all back there's a lot new guys new faces and we've said it you can't duplicate game time you know atmosphere game time uh repetition and so warming up against the FCS opponent like that I think was good because if you looked at that first quarter there was a lot of things that they had to to knock off there was a lot of nervousness right you don't want to knock off your nervousness against a Florida against a Virginia tank or something like that so you knock that off against the FCS opponent where you know you're pretty much guaranteed I think Vegas had him what 40 point is that what it was 40 Point sprad remember how they used to cover remember how they used to not put lines even on those gam they wouldn't do FCS now they're like sure we'll take your we'll take your dumb money there's enough degenerates out there there's some degenerates out just sitting hey Jeremy how much money have you lost on FPS versus FCS games those are I got a system you just got to give me I need six more games the system I got a system I made a dollar on the that's why Riley wanted to know the stats earlier it wasn't for anything else except I'd love to actually my no I I got a prop vet parlay going it's it's intense but it's all FCS versus FBS uh Riley uh real quickly your thoughts on whether or not you want to start with that that big opponent right out of the gate which happen some some years and then other years you're you're facing off against a Southern Illinois to start things off if I'm going to credit you for the strategy I think we get rid of f FBS FCS all together and uh you just find some way to redistribute some of the wealth down to help buoy up because I know that's been a wealth transfer transfer mechanism that's why they play them as for running yeah exactly a wealth transfer mechanism so I say get rid of them all together and um so because I I'll be honest I didn't like FCS now I was a quarterback you know and and all that but I I didn't like FCS I felt like I already got so few with with no guaranteed opportunity to play Beyond College I felt like we had so many few opportunities it felt like a waste to go beat up on dudes who we knew top to bottom on the roster we were that much better than and like Pat ourselves on the back for you know a 35-point win against the team that you should have right you should have beat by 38 so now that said it it's got some good so Sly talked about the Utah perspective given the BYU perspective they're not trotting out 20 more guys I know there's been a lot of intrigue about like o the quarterback but like and if bohannan goes out there which it's looking like he's probably not it's not new like LJ Martin and H probably had the top two carries last year they're going to be your two RBS Chase Roberts Lasser and keano Hill were your top three receivers oh you're trotting those same guys out there four out of your five offensive linemen are the same guys same offense yeah same exactly same offensive coordinator same defensive coordinator now what you need there is like they believe at least defensively you know Jay Hill is's very reserved guy even he he said at one point at Camp was kind of when they were transitioning out of Camp into game prep he said I think we are further ahead and better than we were last year now that's all talk because you're trotting out seven of the same 11 guys like how can you say that how can you say that you're better so you need this to maybe get your team believing that from a psychological standpoint and look I still do believe in the age of transfers and the age of just like rip and replace everybody I do believe that from one year to the next players can get better and but you got to see it to believe it because if you come out and you get punched in the nose that doubt Creeps in and then you can backslide really really quick so I think for BYU if they can come out and they can start to see it and start to believe what they've been telling themselves all off season which is we're all one year better we're all one year bigger we're all one year wiser and that will mean that will equate to better performance throughout the course of the year then you know I think it's a meaningful exercise but as a fan and as a player I could I could leave them I can leave these matchups well and I mean I didn't want to part I didn't want to transition that into furthering my opinion which should matter the most here okay the FCS FBS games have to go especially now I think they will especially now that that that a loss or two doesn't freaking matter on your you know on your resume it's like having Corner Canyon play Milford week one what are we doing we don't do we don't do it at the high school level like you know I'm trying to use a local at High School analogy know isn't that is that if Corner Canyon what's the point if Corner Canyon was giving $50,000 to Milford I'd be okay with it but that's not but that's also not happening so in the end like it is it's like honestly and and and wouldn't the TV Partners be extremely sa that's where the money comes down from the extra profit I watched the entire game and I'm racking my brain who did New Mexico lose to though oh it was uh it was uh Montana State okay oh yeah Montana State okay good Mont state it would have been it would a lowlevel group of five versus which is different I guess maybe it's the P4 FCS got gocs cuz I was going to say if you're if you're the coach or on that coaching staff of Montana State and you are young in your career and you're an upcomer you want those opportunities to punch above your weight and show what you can do against a bigger weight class what would the world be without appalation State beating Michigan exactly so so you still need that to you need some mechanism of it I guess to allow for Upward Mobility more for the coaches than anything else but are you are you trying to introduce relegation to the game come on let's go I know I'm all for it but we're too we're too far down the line all right joining us on the program right now he's nice enough to hang out because we're it's a Friday and we're talking football nonstop stop all football all the time this is another edition of football Friday with JJ and Alex presented by G2G bars on 975 the KSL Sports Z I mean obviously we're just keeping it down low up until game time but we've been able to I guess kind of figure out over practices and stuff who the guy is going to be you know who we can meet with to prepare for the game when it comes game one who to watch film with a little bit more so we know as receivers but we're going to keep it down low up until game time all right welcome back JJ and Alex 975 KSL support Zone Alex cury Jeremiah Jensen Riley Nelson and Stevenson Sylvester our very first uh football Friday of the Season we're at Lehigh where the Le are going to be hosting the Bingham miners how does this one handicap tonight you guys are going to have the call on Game Night Live on how how's this one uh I mean is it do we have hey Jeremy do they have lines for high school games buddy I'm not going to get get into that what are you headed to wind over here shortly to go put some some Skittles better hurry game started seven uh Lehi is the favorite clearly I think Lehi is the team in 6A who has the best chance to challenge Corner Canyon this year uh jet new is they're returning quarterback this is a second year starting uh they got Devon ekit running back they're they're really good in the trenches Rock Olson who's going to go to Utah state is Mama is yeah they're really good so they got a lot of talent uh Bingham is still good in the trenches uh they're not what they once were as a program um they don't have the D1 FPS even you know there's no power for you know that I know of so there's a little bit of a talent discrepancy but bingham's really tough in the trenches and they're really good offensively the the charger doie the safety for Bingham is really really good and compl play the next level uh but they're going to have a hard time keeping up with Lehi offensively uh that's going to be a fun one that fires up tonight at 7 o'clock and uh we'll walk you all the way up till 6 o'clock right here uh but yeah football Fridays our program brought to you by G2G bars all natural ingredients and no preservatives make the G2G bar perfect for anybody who needs a quick tasty nutritious boost uh you can get a m Costco holiday oil Maverick and Associated Foods uh but let's kick things off here now uh we're going to get into a little bit of BYU Southern Illinois talk here let's get it going it's the cut right here at the top of the hour it's time for the biggest story of the day this is what made the cut with JJ and Alex on 975 the KSL Sports Zone and this portion of the show brought to you by an incredible selection of Kia subar Chevy Jeep Dodge or Ram it's the Doug Smith dealerships in American Fork in Spanish Fork great service starts with noow and nobody knows like Doug all right BYU versus Southern Illinois it's a uh there are a lot more questions that need to be answered for BYU it's not just a a rust knocked off situation uh for the cougs versus the Salukis uh this is this is one that everybody is going to have their eyeballs on I'm fascinated by this whole the quarterback controversy back in it's not a controversy it's just the the quarterback battle obviously A-Rod and and BYU keeping it close to the vest I don't remember I mean there have been times where we we you know Kanani will go so and so's getting the start and this 20 minutes before the game time right Riley so and so's going to be get the start today so and so it can go whatever uh there's part of me that goes come on just like tell us who it's going to be and then there's part of me that goes keep a black sheet around the person all the way up until the snap like there's I love the idea of keeping it like just absolutely underw wrapped because you don't want to give an advantage to the other team fine but it's it's also kind of brings a little bit of more that uh Hollywood script I love all that yeah but there's no advantage to the other team there's no advantage or disadvantage to the other team go tell me conference game yeah not even confence yeah and not only that you have we now have let's see rodick took over in 2021 so 21 22 23 we're going into our fourth season of Aaron Rodrick heavily and then we also have another season with him at Utah and with Jeff Grimes you're studying the office oh my gosh give me a break and also here's what you've seen like Zack Wilson slightly different uh skill set than jiren hall jiren Hall different than Baylor Romney like all the guy but guess what whoever Aaron rodri trots out they run the same plays it's like you're going to get you're going to get wide Zone you're going to get play action shots off the wide Zone you're going to get a drop you're going to get your drop back passing game mostly in the gun and like that's it they're going to be they're going to try and get the majority of their passing game off the boot they're going to try and get their quarterback out in space so that's not so here's the but here's you say black sheet it is because if they say who it is then you have a flurry of opinions going into that game that as much as you try and buffer or inoculate your players and not just the quarterback himself but also the rest of the roster around against those opinions they seep into the program so that's what it's doing it has nothing to do with preparation or any Competitive Edge the what it's doing is keeping everyone's opinions out and then you put a product on the field and people can actually Give opinions about the game which players can players are far less affected by that cuz players are in the film room they watch the tape by themselves they watch the tape with their position coach and they have some like objectivity some objective evaluation against which they can um they can compare all of our or contrast all of our uh media and fan opinions so to me that's the biggest Advantage let's not make it about what it's not it has nothing to do with actual game preparation has everything to do with the psyche and all of the you know static around the program uh there have been people who go I mean obviously we have some some guys that go to the media observations you don't really get much and you know it gets down to like oh how many reps did they take well they got they got 58% of the Reps during uh during the media observation desperate to cover something we got a month of know I know it everyone's excited and the fans want to know right the back and forth and how much does that does that affect the locker room like when does like you're in there and you're going okay we're doing this thing where everybody all they want to talk about is is qb1 and qb2 it's the only thing people want to try to figure out but the reality is is there's a lot more has to get figured out we had our conversation weekly with Conor pay this week and it was like Hey the reality is is yeah the quarterback situation has to get figured out if the offensive line stinks then what does it matter like like if they can't figure it out if they have a year like they did last year it's going to be a two- s Conference record kind of regardless of the quarterback if they can't hit 100 yards rushing in a game then there's just too much pressure on any quarterback unless you're just exceptional I I don't know I don't know what what these players you know I I I mean Connor pays is a No Nonsense kid and and uh he's been in the program a long time too and he's just like look uh and but they feel so much better about that change over from coach Funk to to TJ Woods uh because they they just felt like they needed more accountability uh they needed a little bit more of of this fire that they didn't have and frankly some discipline that they didn't have last year that starts to seep out of like kind of guys missing meetings people showing up late to stuff which is not really the BYU way it sounds insane to even think that that could be a possibility that stuff happens behind the doors and most of the time it doesn't really uh if you're winning no one cares but like when you have a year like last year and it was the first year I don't know year two Riley your thoughts on starting this thing off with Southern Illinois and and the quarterback question aside because we don't have the answer to it uh what what is the thing that's going to equal success for BYU this year I didn't uh want to dilute the Utah talk with some BYU talk but wit's like I think we had like three or four sacks and JJ's like it was five and like yeah it was five that was half that wasu season production last year and I know it's an FCS opponent but like to me offense like whatever honestly like it's the same dudes I I worry about the same thing I saw last year like here's one thing you can get maybe a little bit better at separation point and this and that but like ultimately a lot of what threatens defenses in the passing game is coated into a dude's DNA it's the way that he came out of his mother's womb and like the way he starts walking and running since he's been 8 years old and none of that's changed and this it's the same RBS and it's the same o line so like I'm far less interested in the offense to me I think the offense is going to be whatever the offense is going to be I want to see if the change from Elisa tuiaki and Jay Hill in year two it just doesn't need to take a step forward it needs to take a leap forward and they got CA Pua and they got Kpop back and they got Jay Hill back and like yeah they yeah Gary coach Anderson's helping out down there he not a position coach but he's um strategic uh what do they call them now yeah an analyst yeah like that is what that's what's going to equal success like I want I don't know if they'll shut him out but like I'm far more interested in a shut out than I am you know 45 points that'll be far more meaningful to me as far as the direction that BYU is heading and their prospects for the next two to three years in the Big 12 than whatever the offense is going to be the offense is they got like they need a different caliber of athlete out there in my opinion at the skill position to really if they want to compete at the upper e lines of the conference but but in order to do that first things first in the Big 12 you got to be physical and stout and able to stop teams otherwise it's going to be tough sled uh if if you if you're watching this whole thing and and it's not just I love the questions too that we and look these are our colleagues right that are asking these questions they're the ones who have to sit in front of the uh at the media scrum you know and we're back hosting the show and we're like what' you guys get out of them it's like nothing because they're telling us nothing and here's what Kanani said about it's not just about whether or not who's going to the start it's like yeah but are you going to see uh a bunch of packages out there if if if redl gets the start then is Gary banah going to take some snaps from Wildcat I don't know what they're think so colani was asked about that here's what he said about whether or not they're going to play a couple quarterbacks versus uh SIU we're planning to do a lot of different things we have a lot of options and the goal is to get the win can't tell you how that's going to go yet right now on Monday but we we know we have an opportunity we can win with with more than just one person at quarterback uh we have a number of them that can play and that we can get victories with and so that goes with all the positions we feel really good about the depth there and quarterback just happens to be a deep one for us as well I was really proud with how the the quarterbacks handled all the camp and feel confident going into the season with with the our group of quarterbacks that we have all together especially the top two that's that's my favorite thing right when they do this thing JJ where they go oh well look uh I me sign about qb1 qb2 we got four guys that could go out there play it's like quit it no that's what I heard I heard everything is nothing and nothing is everything I'm just like okay so what did I get out of that I have a question for Riley because you you can answer this how important is it to be named the starter for them to know that they're putting all their confidence in you for the coach to talk about how they can't wait for you to go out there and Lead this team as opposed to what's going on right now where the coach is a week earlier and I know he maybe he's playing the media but he's saying a we go four or five guys are going to do the job like don't you need to go tell your starter your guy to make him feel like he's the man so I know that clip went viral two weeks ago about Tua talking about that going from Brian Flores to yeah yeah you saw that I think that I think that varies from player to player personally for me my confidence was all built on what I put on tape I didn't like and maybe that went from the standpoint of like I you know Jake and I are swapping time and then I get hurt and then I get benched and at that point it was like it was me and my dad were the only two better would you have been able to play and perform if that crap didn't have to happen JJ that all crumbles if you go out and you throw three picks and you can't get a first down so to me what what actually matters is whoever they put out there can they actually produce that's where real confid that's where real tried andrue like forged in the fire confidence comes from is from going out on the field on Saturday and putting it the coach can name you in fact to speak from my own experience they did all that with Jake heaps he's the guy and he's turned everything that they wanted us to be and there and then we'd go out there on Saturday that to me is actually the bottom that would fall out we'd go out there on Saturday and then we'd watch the film on Monday and it was like wait he's the guy he's the future I'm not quite seeing it there and then you get this disconnect and then that's how you erode trust within the program you don't all the endorsement and all the stuff to the media it might matter to an individual player but I'm telling you it's a house of cards because it it will fall down so quickly if it's not backed up by actual production between the lines on Saturdays yeah man it's a it's a crazy mind game with all of this and and what decision do you have to do I think Riley's completely right but it is subjective but for me I'm looking at it as uh football is so mental especially at the quarterback position if you're not instilling confidence in them soon as they make them mistake they're literally thinking about that and can they have the competence to push forward and forget about the last play cuz that's the most important thing but if being so mental for me I'd want my offensive line I'd want my receivers to know who's throwing me the ball because the way Riley throws the ball Riley throws the out the out route is different than the way that Gary Bohan is going to throw the out route right so as a receiver I need that chemistry I need that Rhythm and and and the longer somebody knows he said that they know I hope I hope that theyve relayed that to the team because all that really matters is the team that knows then all the stuff I'm talking about doesn't matter cuz it only really matters what's going on but that's fake right when they go we don't even cuz like think they're covering their own butt too we don't even know who it is so me cuz Chase Roberts was like well we kind we know who the guy is cuz then that's all the matters like we know who the way Rod said that is like they've related to the team they're just not telling the media but see okay that's a part Riley too that bugs me when they go they're so they're both so good we don't even know how to make a decision how much of that is true versus like the reality like well cuz here's the thing is as an athlete you got to instill confidence in the quarterback too if even if the quarterback's not doing it he's the only one that's going to get you the ball he's all we got yeah so like yeah it's it's a mind game with all that as well but like man I Echo with Riley said man it's it's crazy and uh you have to get these quarterbacks ready to go but for me I I got to instill confidence in the quarterback position I think it was Mother Theresa or maybe Albert Einstein but it wasn't the dog whisper they said no they said like they said talk is cheap and then something else no I'm kidding that wasn't but that Samson I know cuz I was going to say there there was a word long word started yeah with the m after it and anyway no but uh that's it's all it's all it all just EV you kick the ball off on Saturday and all that evaporates and then it's all left s was talking earlier about like half sacks matter and that you got to put it on tape like I I am raising my sons who I hope love football and play football no matter how far they make it whether they make it to just Friday Night Lights or they get a chance to play Beyond whatever I'm going to tell them that none of it matters except what you do between those lines and what between 60 minutes and zero on the clock all the rest of it is let the fans have it that is that those are the table scraps off the table the players the guys competing those are the ones eating the Feast of the beautiful sport of football all the rest of us are down there under the table like dogs hoping for a bone or a scrap yeah but can we get it is it going to fall off the table on Saturday well I hope so man we're we're anything we can get like we are we're hoping for so Stevenson Sylvester JJ myself we're back next 975 the KSL Sports Zone stubborn with my Hearing Centers it's a Friday and we're talking football nonstop stop all football all the time this is another edition of football Friday with JJ and Alex presented by G2G bars on 975 by the KSL Sports Zone football Fridays are back JJ and Alex 975 vsl Sport Zone Riley Nelson and Stevenson Sylvester of course joining alongside as well all season long we're going to bring you all the football breakdowns that we can uh yes listen uh we've got tons going on next hour we're going to walk you all the way up we've got a bunch of national stuff to talk about as well I'm interested to get you guys' thoughts on on the college football playoff and how what kind of A Wrinkle that throws into what the future of football looks like uh right now and how we're supposed to kind of deal with uh with the changes that have gone on with the conference stuff I mean I don't know if I I don't know if I love it or hate it yet right now I mean I was a big pack 12 guy I mean I was a pack 10 kid growing up watching you have a Pack 12 tattoo it's on my truck all right I got the I got the sticker on my truck you're only a big pack 12 guy if you had a tattoo the sticker wasn't enough you didn't go far enough I was actually one of the guys that started calling it The Pack 12 within the last couple of years I had just gotten used to that now you got to think of something else I got to get over to the the it was interesting that like there was a there was a little bit of a whiplash last night when I watched that big 12 logo on the field and on the and on the jerseys I'm on the sidelines like that just looks so weird it looks so weird and and not that it I mean we're just going to have to get used to it uh but Utah of course last night's showing while they're why they're uh you know the favorite in the in the conference and you know until proven otherwise and and really it's going to be be fun to watch how they do in conference play and I know next week's not a conference game wink but it is a conference game like I'll call it a conference test how about that yeah I mean look at the very least how do they look against a a a big 12 opponent I get it it's not going to it's not going to be on the conference uh table when it comes down to uh you know who's going to get to the Big 12 championship game but you know the way that Baylor's been playing the last couple years maybe it would have been nice you know like keep that as like a real conference it's one thing to be like cuz who is is it Kansas State playing Arizona and that one doesn't count same problem yeah same deal see that one is a matchup that you go oh if that one counted that's one of the best Premier matchups in conference play this year but it's not conf confence game yeah it doesn't count which is weird it's a it's a strange world to live in but uh anyway we'll come back we' got more to go and we'll chat about it next hour we'll bring in all the national stuff and we'll also get some predictions on Utah State who we also need to talk about we need to talk about what that world looks like now with Nate drying running things and and it's there's been a lot of talk this summer time for the biggest story of the day this is what made the cut with JJ and Alex on 975 the KSL Sports Zone and trade and wealth brings you the cut this hour trj wealth.com for your retirement needs uh okay let's talk about it we've uh we've been talking a little bit about of course we we broke down all of that Utah Southern Utah game that we could last night I mean as much as we could handle um and then we started to talk a little bit about southern Illinois and what Bo's got to do we talked also we haven't been able to break down a little bit of of Utah State Riley the off season of course uh has been a tumultuous one yes it's been it's been difficult at the very least to say uh you know that Nate drying as a 33-year-old head coach is inherited but I mean at the same time like I think that expectations are still pretty high because well I say pretty high I I think that ball eligibility is a reality for this team even with the circumstances that they have uh I don't know what Spencer p petus is going to bring to the table except for a lot of experience but not a lot of throw game quality yeah that's that's the part that I wonder about you see what Utah State's been doing in the offseason your thoughts on the aies well just so let's start there offensively is um obviously Blake Anderson uh he was the only one that was let go as far as I know there haven't been any other uh developments within the staff as far as people leaving right and he kind of brought and embraced that system but he wasn't calling plays he wasn't installing the offense and so as you look while it they have had a lot of offensive production under his tutelage he it has been his coordinators and his offensive staff that have been really the engine that have been driving that so you talk about petris and he comes from Iowa correct yes yeah so like not not so much an offensive Powerhouse and may maybe it's chicken or the egg but the reality is no matter who they've thrown in there last year McKay hillstead first true we're talking about true freshman of their first start how about that K thrown for 44 TDS in his first start right like another Utah product of course he's now moved on to BYU but like lagga who couldn't win the job at Tulsa uh you know he was very productive in this in this offense and obviously prior to that you had Logan boner and all those guys throwing up all sorts of yards so it's a little bit of a they got a little bit of an offensive system going it's a little bit plug-and-play they get Royals back Royals their top Defenders that guy's a legitimate you know G5 Talent he's a legitimate allconference candidate he's an All-American yeah all American candidate honestly if you look at the numbers his yards per catch and his his touchdowns and all of his ratios and then uh they got fizan coming back who was very good and then Briggs Jr to back him up they lose the kid to Mississippi State um yeah anyway the W out the second wide out right no no the RB no the starting running back the leading RB they lost the leading RB but but Briggs and fison um coming back is a lot of yeah Devon Bo so he he was a good player it will be hurt but I think fizan is really good and Briggs who only got I think 40 or 50 carries last year I think is welcome the load he but he had the same yards per carry as Booth who's who's on his way out anyway I don't know much about the lines of the Interior but offensively I think they'll be able to produce and if you can score points in the Mountain West I don't think it's like you know I I said earlier with BYU in the Big 12 they got to be able to to show some semblance of a defense to stop offenses and big points I think in Mountain West I I don't know that that's as important because I think the nature of the league can tend to be like whoever's got the ball last and you don't have you know it's interesting you look around the conference and you see Bronco manal coming in you think they're going to be formidable obviously dropping to Montana State that's going to take a little bit more time but then let's look at I talk we're talking about local products uh Maddox madx Madson thank you goes AF kid SP he's been a couple years up in ball here at Lehigh baseball here at Lehigh couple years up at boisey earns a starting job beating out a former five-star recruit that initially yeah out of USC Malachi Nelson so that to say that you know boisey maybe not sure what they not like I guess what I'm saying is like perennial boy's always had a California base quarterback they've always kind of been receptive to those higher profile guys coming down to the next level and here you got Matt so we don't know what kind of state that programs in so the perennial Powers we saw uh Nevada in the first uh week I I'm so bad I should write this stuff down but Nevada didn't look like any kind of Powerhouse same with UNLV and uh so San Diego State's not what they are yeah so I think the the entire conference in the same situation with a head coach that quit in the middle of the summer and now they're they got an interim and and you League doesn't it's not there's not that goat Riley you're right there's not that boisey state dominant team everyone's playing for conference or Fresno State with Derek Carr and and and the star receiver Adams Devon Adams I mean that Fresno State team was really good you don't have those teams right now so for Utah State to be in the situation there this is a really good year for them to be in that position because there will be room for them to be able to exceed expectations because the league is not what it's been in the past and uh I I always um mispronounce her last name is it Sabu I always think of Chris Sabo the former baseball player so Diana Sable has made it clear to to all of not I wouldn't I mean obviously with the example she made out of Blake Anderson but all of the head coaches and their coaching staff and even within the athletic Administration that like you better put up or shut up and shove out and so all these coaches are fighting for their job in one way or the other so they're going to coach their butts off to get these guys ready to play whether it's to you know take to take that next POs to remove that interim label um from their current position at Utah State because everyone has interim in front of their name or it's auditioning for jobs elsewhere if Sabo decides to move on so I think it's going to be an interesting year F filled with a lot of energy is it is it stable is it predictable no but should it be filled with a lot of energy and potential excitement I think yeah there's a lot of intrigue there well I was going to ask you sly because like you know when you're in a locker room and you're on the on the verge of like a a coup you know in a way where your head coach gets let go Midsummer hold on hold on hold on Kyle Whittingham and Mike Tomlin the two longest 10 head coaches in their that's I in their respective he doesn't know anything about uh yeah tumultuous situations you you just walked into like the most solid I walked into greatness but at the same time like that's what I'm saying is like when you if that were ripped out from under you Midsummer it would be hard to keep that group together and try to keep these young men's heads on straight right uh it goes to the leadership of the team though right like uh coach Whittingham has been saying it you know constantly these past couple years a player L football team gives you championships right and and so like for me I have to really agree with what Riley said I I definitely have walked into some amazing situations so I can't really say you know from experience but for me if that were to happen I would say it have to go with the leaders of the team and I know that I was a leader of the team and how I would act and how I would rally the guys what would you say to these guys when something like that would have happen it doesn't matter we're here yeah whoever's coaching is coaching when we get out on the field whatever play whether it's under one cover one or whether it's covered too we run it the best to Perfection and nobody should be able to beat it the way you run a defense you should be able to align any set whether it was a blitz whether it's cover four cover one or two can play against any type of offense there's so many adjustments to your one style of Defense so it doesn't matter if I'm playing cover one or cover two if the offense doesn't score we win and it's bottom line of that and that's that's no matter who's call calling the plays on defense or who's calling the plays on offense yeah if you execute with effort which are two things that you can control you control your execution through your preparation throughout the week that's going to give you the best chance to execute on Saturdays and then your effort is 100% within your control to SLI point it does kind of take now don't get me wrong college football is a game that is led by coaches and look no further than and all that stuff right they yeah because they need the development but those those upper classmen should be saying that like a lot of this is within our control if we could if we take care of business during the week and we show up and play you know give everything we got each Saturday we got a chance and and and I love this fact uh because you guys did say that you know of course Mike Tomlin and Coach Winningham are my coaches right and the years that we've had the most success the years that I went to the Super Bowl the year we won the Sugar Bowl they really didn't do much they really didn't do much that's what I've said the whole time wit doesn't do much does do much no but understand what you're saying J har ownership right I had hin Ward I had and it was BJ it was Brian Johnson on have to be babysat by coach exactly there's player ownership there culture like if someone was acting out of line on that 08 offense like probably Matt or Brian was going and handling it ever long before lwig or Kyle ever had to right we had Braden Gaffrey Brink Castile those guys were on missions oh yeah right and then so like yeah and then on the offensive line you had Robert connley Zay Beatles is the most businessman ever right and so like we just had a lot of grownups and that's what it is I I think that it probably does show a lot of these of the leaders of this Utah State team when the transfer portal opens up all these different times and Ike Larsson turns down six figures to go somewhere else yes and it like even even Midsummer when they go all right it's opened up again because you lose your when your coach leaves and you're able to to get back in the transfer portal again I know their options aren't great but at the same time like the offers are out there for some of these kid jayen Royals could go out right now 10 schar with a halfon in nil all what you guys were saying earlier about cam Rising right the cam Rising effect cam Rising doesn't have to do much of anything but just his presence there elevates everybody else guys like Jaylen Royals and Ark Arc Larson who you know have turned down those deals to keep that mold together to keep that camarad that fraternity together is what helps everybody Elevate themselves so yeah I I just think it's it's a culmination of oh you football being the ultimate team sport in order for it to be successful all 11 guys on the field at that time have to be on the same page offensively or defensively and so when you got guys like cam Rising Ike Larson who demand that out of the rest of the team you know coach whittingham's famous statement I hope nobody else takes it but he's been preaching this for years is you set the bar high and you demand everybody else uh live up to it right you don't go down everybody's level you set the bar high and that's what your leaders of the team does that's what your Ike Larsson does right and that's what your jayen Royals does they are on a mission and I think everybody else pays attention to that and they elevate themselves what did you say there Ry what did you say was it effort and execution is I can like hear the Bronco men Hall like Echo alignment assignment execution and effort that was his PO thing alignment assignment execution effort now lot of cost for optimism a lot of energy that Hope Springs Eternal like before the first game it can here's a you just mentioned cam Rising where was the cam Rising effect the last couple Seasons well he was injured he was not on the field they go Robert Morris should come out of that pretty scath but then USC and then Utah backto back weeks yeah we get UT home though that's uh you're right that's going to change the the physics formula of force equals mass time acceleration no which no driver is going to get you yeah they're going to be so exhausted elevation going to get them whatever they got that P4 money they'll fly up there yeah yeah the four got more money than we ever had they might yeah we're not riding a bus no but uh no sorry what I say to that is like if they can come out of that relatively unscathed and if nothing else like there's probably going to be injuries but if if Fortune Smiles down on them and all of those key you know those key uh role players that we talked or not role players those key leaders if they can stay healthy through that kind of Gauntlet at the first part of their schedule then that leadership remains intact because as good a leader as you are if you cannot suit up and go to battle you just it's diminishing effect it happened to me a I missed two games my junior year and I missed four games my senior year and as good a leader as I thought I was and as aspiring as I was to my team as much I wasn't out there and so it diminishes it almost diminishes it to zero the effect you can have you can still encourage guys you can hype guys up on the man you're not you have no you you really don't have much control over how dudes prepare over the week and you really like you can't be out there on Saturdays to inspire them so if all those dudes that we just listed and we listed a good little core of them seven eight players verified players that the aies got suiting up for him this year if they can avoid the injury bug then you know Hope Springs Eternal up in Logan all right let's uh let's take another break here uh before we do though I wanted to make sure you guys know what's going on we've got all sorts of things still to uh we're going to make we're going to make uh some predictions on how Utah BYU and Utah State all go and I'm also going to ask for a national championship pick uh from these guys as well as we've got them so we're going to we're going to dive into all that and much more right here on our football Friday hey hey it's a Friday and we're talking football nonstop all football all the time this is another edition of football Friday with JJ and Alex presented by G2G bars on 975 the KSL Sports Zone yep LJ will be ready to go and that's why he's on the list and we're excited to see him play so this is sophomore year he feels like he's a I mean it's a different player last year he's trying to learn the offense this year he knows it already and he's he's teaching the younger guys he's teaching the freshman so he's got so much ability and him with FAL with Hinkley and and and with Miles and with the newcomers I think it's going to be a lot of fun to watch those guys go there's your cougars at 30 update we got more right around the corner football Friday continues 975 the KL Sports Zone all right welcome back JJ Alex 975 KSL Sport Zone Stevenson Sylvester hey put that headset on I mean we're not we're not hanging out here man we got we got we got stuff we got to do here my my ears are sweating I had to give it a break you're doing game so hot out here my Heavens hey uh we were just talking about a couple things here in the break one is we were we were discussing a uh some of the guys who' have come out of the Riley's on a big kick right now Riley Nelson's been big on the on the product of uh Utah products yeah are you like are you are you are you does ushaa pay you out to talk about how good these I mean honestly but they should I know it's one of put Riley and and dusty on a show that'd be awesome listen I'm telling you there's a reason that everybody else is starting to notice what everyone already kind of knew here per capita we've got some of the best talent right oh for sure and uh I mean I I did a lot of time in the state of Texas as a kid and both of my brothers played High School football in Texas and and I didn't I had to go play it up in in measley Seattle you know that was very very different atmosphere but like everybody just assumed oh you're in Texas you got a lot of talent I'll just say this I remember how Sly looked at me on my recruiting trip to Utah oh you're a quarterback from where from Utah okay I remember that don't judge the recruit Tri I was trying to put on a face to I was so stone cold I was trying to be hard I was 17 years old I was like I'm going on this recruit SHP everybody going think I'm tough so don't take that no but it wasn't it wasn't just I'm just saying it wasn't that long oh gosh it wasn't that long ago 20 years ago you see those kids that just came up and insulted us no no this is the best so some Lehi High School freshman kids were like hey didn't one of you guys play quarterback for BYU I raised my hand and I said yep I did uh no and we said of course Riley did and they go awesome did you start right so you go kind of go all right well we got to kind of educate these kids a bit and then and then it was like what about you did you play football I like Stephenson syv yeah and we're like well Sly started I mean Sly was a linebacker at Utah played in that Sugar Bowl team uh he played in the NFL that's cool uh did you start realiz and that's cool did you did you start cuz they you said Sugar Bowl 2008 these kids were like well I was born in 200 10 he's are freshman at Lehi born I asked them what their birth years were were and they were 2009 20 you guys' career was over colle three gray hairs that grew out just from that conversation what was the one thing the thing that really insulted Sly I can't remember what it was but it was like oh that's cool so like back in your day or something like that it was like did you tackle anybody important oh that's what it was and oh that's what well then we say Ray ryson they're like don't know who that is no they wouldn't know you go you know out of Ruckers but Alex here's why so I say not that long ago but obviously two decades ago so I I joined that uh and by the way we had some we had some dudes playing on Utah like Kyle Brady was a product out of toilla that was a starting back yeah did you was he still there when you joined he was like on his way so right behind him like so we had some dudes the Kruegers obviously were coming up but that was like kind of about it there was really no one no yeah so some defensive guys I thought Tate was a little bit older but you know they were still kind of hanging on but like no one was really no one had produced from the state of Utah on that Urban Meyer offense and obviously Matt came up so thank goodness for oata coming and doing his thing but it was and I go up to Utah State and there's like six or seven of us three of us are scholarship guys the other guys are walk- on guys and we're pretty much just like depth fillers and it's so funny cuz did that did that go into your decision on which college to choose uh mostly was the fact that I didn't play a snap of Defense in high school and that's that's all anybody was selling me on in Utah and I I think I've told this on the air before I don't know if I've told it on this show so I come down to I did a couple I did an unofficial during a bowl practice our official when we were together was like in February or something but I did an unofficial for the ball practice and Gary's walking me around and he's like hey he takes me over to cuz Gary Gary's going to get you on defense which by the way super super flattering and you we we were talking about Britain CV and how how did BYU Miss on him and how they had the tall position group and like Britain didn't really fit in at that time lwig was just coming from Cal and was all in on the Prototype so you had like Tommy Grady and like but see well whatever I won't well I'll share that story for another time when we got more time but you talk about what ran into the decision Gary's like hey check this dude out and you know it's it's a defensive backfield at a major at a good defense so like there's one white dude out there he's like you can be just like 32 and so I start watching2 32 and I'm like I'm a 17-year-old kid being like Gary you're full of it man I appreciate the compliment what he's about to do to Calvin Johnson in the emerald feet my feet don't move like that my hips don't move like that so there was I was aware enough at 17 I knew he was blowing smoke and then the other thing is they had recruited a couple other Utah product like Krueger was I don't know if he was ever signed as a quarterback but Brady was a quarterback at T Krueger was a quarterback at T ogus like every quarterback they got there they put on defense and I but those guys it made more sense like the coug boys Hans yeah Chase Hansen like the cougar boys were that I was like I don't move like that dude I'm not big enough to play in the front seven where most of these guys end up so there wasn't a part of could been I could have been that next Eric wed was not I was self aware enough at 17 to know that that was smoke so you know at least you can tell yourself that because then you go you don't you don't think to yourself what could have been if ith he could have had a Super Bowl ring yeah right all right anyway so but and like I knew my teammates had the best of in so I go up to Utah State ton of California teammates Texas uh you know we were trying to recruit out of those Talent pools at that time now they got a lot more local kids cuz the development of the state's gotten a lot better but like I you know quarterback Utah and every it was kind of like immediate dismissal and I know they meant the best of it but like when I started playing and like in the film room and out on the practice field you know my especially the my teammates more from the south I would get the okay oh yeah like sign of approval but to me that's almost like offensive cuz I was like I knew I could play like come on everybody doubt me and like it shouldn't be a surprise to you that I can complete a ball out here like this they turn you around they want to go what was your name again like that's when that pops up and then and then here's a okay what was your name so like there's you know Cali Texas Florida fight and Cali Florida and C Texas fight or whatever then I go to BYU and there is a whole new world for anybody who's known a Red Raider of The Proud Kahuku high school out there that is the Pinnacle of col don't even talk about uh football with you know one of our Hawaiian or you know Tong and S and there it's all the Pacific Islanders out there playing at Kahuku cuz the Red Raiders they don't care who Max Preps has at the top they don't care if it's Moder day Bishop Gorman whatever it's the Red Raiders and everyone else anyway that's fun stuff that goes on in college football but bottom line is there's a lot more on the RO and they're doing big things and I love following them and it was rare like back then we had like Chris Coy who was a local product yeah Kevin Curtis was uh was having his like kind of day with the Rams I'm trying you know there was a couple other H but he went he left but H wasn't his much cuz he he went to Oregon but like you were tracking your Utah guys and there just wasn't that many of them now you look across NFL rosters and like no D are college right now Jackson dart's one of the best college quarterbacks in the country he's going to be the highest one talking you start seeing a lot more guys around the country that come from here as well so as a kid who grew up thirsting for that relevance as a kid who loved the sport of football it's like a dream come true for me now as an old man see but now you got your kids coming up and then it's going to be too competitive and then you're going to be like all right look hey let's uh tennis that's a great let's go I was just thinking about no I'm kidding my kids are going to hang it out in there he say Chris coie I kind of want to bring those kids back over here and say like do you know who Chris no no of course they're not going to know uh I know they came over here and they're like oh that's cool man like so and you go dude I I was like I was trying to I'm trying to be like you guys slide play in the freaking Super Bowl and the kid what did he say he goes oh that's awesome did you start my rookie here loser we're going through sly's Division and we're like oh yeah so so the Bengals had Carson Palmer Heisman winning at UFC just face unchanged they don't know who he what did they say they go who' you play did you ever play against Tom Brady goes that was my first game ever as a rookie and they're like did you beat him did you pick him off they wanted to know how many interceptions he had on Tom Brady no they said was he good yeah was he was Tom was like it's Tom Brady what are you talking about no he was not well then we go like oh and then Andy Dalton replac I was like dang that was a good stretch of quarterbacks for the Bengals you went up against Sly and and they were like Andy Dalton huh I was like the dude TCU like Rose Bowl beat Wisconsin like you one of the kids had red hair you should have been like this is like the you should idolize man let's go if your highlights aren't on Tik Tok right now those kids don't know who have you guys seen those memes where it's like nothing more that guys love than sitting around naming mid like basketball like mid college basketball players from the early 2000s obscure players from your favorite team like Gary mcnamer SC Syracuse I remember that run play the game and the first one that loses has to do something you guys first that can't name somebody loses I know you guys love Gary Payton I know you guys love Sean Kent but did you guys remember dead left shrimp oh yeah was the man that's what we used to do listen you remember when the wild cats you know they got that last one everyone remembers baby cuz he went from the Kings but it was Miles Simon with the shaved head that really drove you know we got we got to take another yell us we got more we got more to go around the corner we're going to break a little bit down of of some of the moves that BYU's made in the offseason like with TJ Woods coming in what that effect will have keano Hill going to tight end I want to see what kind of an experiment that's going to be the running back situation of BYU then we'll have some predictions of the weekend stay with us right here first I want to tell you don't miss your chance to win big every week it's our win ticket Wednesday JJ did you see did you cheat did you see who it is for this week they were giving tickets away too no de leopard oh Pour Some Sugar On Me yes let's go we're uh we're going to give those away on Wednesday so all Wednesday long we're going to give those away on the station so stay right here more to go around the corner 975 ekl Sports [Music] Zone it's a Friday and we're talking football nonstop stop all football all the time this is another edition of football Friday with JJ and Alex presented by G2G bars on 975 the KSL Sports Zone all right everybody welcome back it is JJ and Alex 975 KSL Sports Zone final segment of the hour here we're uh picking the brains uh one final time of Stevenson Sylvester Riley Nelson if we get you ready this is just the first of our many football Fridays to go this year man we're excited about it tell them what we're really excited about okay listen we just we had a uh we had a a booster mom roll up from Lehigh high school and she goes hey I got I she rolled up with four packages of the fullon uh it's pork nachos it's their pork nachos they make over the concessions here and uh look it's our new endorsement so we do this is our this is our newest client the the concession stand at Lehigh high school with the nachos man my goodness they need an intervention no it is good come watch the Lehi being in football game tonight just for this and go try the nachos and thank us later uh so all right final couple minutes here guys I was going to ask you rightly about keano Hill changing over from white out to tight and if that's something that you look at and you go oh I'm excited about that or it's like ah man uh are they just forcing that fit we were just talking in the break about you know when Gary Anderson wanted to play defense up at Utah uh the reality is uh a move like that for a guy like keano Hill it could be a massive success oh yeah absolutely could the reality is he especially with the move to the Big 12 it's like all right you're big big big long body but can't really you're not really getting open on the outside our offense isn't conducive to having like tall slot right tall kind of that Jimmy Graham Flex y position it's not really what we do so let's put 20 30 pounds on you you know see if you are man you know can man up and block some people but then when you get out in the passing game from maybe having your hand on the ground maybe doing a little bit of flex maybe a little bit of out of HB now you're more likely rather than being a pure Flex Y and getting like a nickel on you now maybe we catch him in Bas D and you get a linebacker and now of a sudden you got an athletic matchup so I I'm excited about it I I will say I don't know guys like I I hope it's not coming off as NE negativism because I I wish the best for BYU but like the production of of I always was waiting for like Isaac Rex to like be Isaac Rex and it never really materialized and I wonder if I I wonder if it was was it Bushman or was it Grimes right cuz Bushman was the last one to truly be like the Bell cow and it was under interesting and since Grimes left like Isaac caught a lot of touchdowns but never was really involved in the offense outside of the Red Zone and people are waiting for it to return to the Glory Days like Dennis p and Chad Lewis and Gordon Hudson I don't know like I hope so maybe keano Hill is like the Catalyst to catapult him into that but um maybe there is a more athletic tight end in their future maybe something else it's a little bit less of the traditional you know when Steve Clark left maybe that kind of attitude of of how you know the prototypical BYU tight end looked so all right uh last couple minutes here how does this one go this weekend for Utah State and BYU uh Riley will'll start with you and then Stevenson you can uh you can follow it up here so uh I'll just lay out the lines according to ESPN bet uh Aggie's 30 and a half Point favorite so obviously they don't think highly of of Robert plus the offensive juger Juggernaut I already talked about the reasons for optimism I don't know if they'll cover that but I think it should close like 28 28 close BYU is 14 and A2 I don't know hardly anything about the Salukis um but only a 14 and A2 Point favorite I think uh by's got a lot of questions to answer I do think I was able I was only able to make it to two fall Camp practices but the intensity was like any ER of entitlement or like we think we're special is gone out of the program and there's a hunger and intensity that I sensed that those practices and the one scrimmage that I went to so I think they're hungry to prove themselves and uh and and I hope they show it on Saturday so I I think they win hopefully they cover right that's only two touchdowns I think they should be able to get Southern Illinois by two touchdowns at home if they don't cover fans are going to panic yeah well if it's a 140 game the fans will Panic too like you know what I'm happed last year they had it against but more important for me than like I said this earlier I think in the first hour beginning of the second hour I I'm more interested in like the zero or seven than I am in like the 28 or 35 I want to I want to see what the defense has for Southern Illinois rather than the offense the offense will kind of be what it is and figure it itself out as we go along but I want to see the defense set that tone for the season tomorrow well I don't want to give BYU too many Praises it's not really good for my uh my mental health no but um honestly uh we talked about this last year and Jay Hill going there it was the same defense that I ran and and so I'm seeing plays I'm calling plays I'm seeing how I do it and I really think that defense is good over there they were missing some things there was they were technically unsound on some things and so the addition of Coach Anderson being there I think will would will tighten that up right and and so now they're they're really the beu udes now um is is what we're talking about BR I played against those defenses I'll take that all the time I've been waiting for sack Lake City to come to Pro sack Lake City south and it has not materialized so you got Gary Kanani Jay uh who else C wasn't on that staff but he's kind of from that same mold yeah but remember we on our Sunday night breakdowns there was technical things that like if they did that they would be able to handle it and those are the things that coach Anderson can bring in the intelligence to pay attention to when you're studying film and getting these guys ready for a game so I expect that defense to be absolutely awesome on Saturday you guys excited the rest of the season we're going to be doing this every week are you I was jazzed to get this started I mean fist pumps don't got a little hot and imagine if we keep getting pork nachos it's going to get even better hey man who's the next booster West Jord we got to figure it out next week Shout Out West Jordan next week figure out all right uh we'll take the break here thanks fellas we appreciate it we'll be back again next week for a football [Music] Friday it's a build the schedule that way uh and it's fun and we have something to look forward to every week and this is no different number two Lehigh second best team in the state in our opinion biggest Challenger to Corner Canyon this year in 6A jet new is back at quarterback Devon Nea is back at running back really good football team uh Rock olssen anchors that offensive line uh going to Utah State uh he may or may not be the son of one of our staff members uh he he's he's a really good talent and he's it's a big senior year for him uh they're going up against a Bingham team that's really big and good in the trenches uh they got they got a new head coach Coach Johnson takes over the program after being an assistant for 17 18 years at the school and there's some newness there um former BYU running back fahu tahi is their offensive coordinator so uh they're well coached uh they're trying to figure things out offensively I think it's going to be a great matchup should be great in the trenches if you're into that uh Lehi and Bingham you can watch it on the KSL Plus app KSL Sports app KSL sports.com tonight starting at 7 me and S be on the call let's go I love that offensive line I mean the o line is awesome if you're into that sort of thing it's a very Niche sounds like you're like opening your coat in New York like if you're into this we got some offensive line play for you
