yeah yeah so you said it at the beginning of the year yeah you did or beginning a camp so credit to you I I I didn't hear that one you were right credit to you you looked like a little kid but here's the thing I put an aster next to it it's Mike Edwards it's hurt in the spring and then got H at Camp you know Michael you make a good point it really is it's about availability and Cole bishop and I don't think you guys have the energy because you know how insufferable I want to be and you're not giving me you're not giving me what I want you think we would ever purposely do that just to take always appreciated all right gentlemen week one of the Season we were in Orchard Park today for practice media day we're going to get into captains Demar Hamlin practice what went on The Vibes what was said all of that stuff um surprising news of the day though Mike two Captain two captains only two captains I'll slou yeah this team has averaged eight eight captains a year it's like I think the three of us were the only ones who weren't captains of the team you know they just would throw them out you know special teams guys and couple players on defense couple on offense most of those guys are gone that were the captains six out of the eight six out of the eight so no surprise obviously Josh Allen as a captain no surprise at the other Captain through all Bernard because I thought this would be his year to move into that role you're looking at me you think it's a surprise I was a little surprised only because my expectation was that it would be Taran Johnson if it was only going to be one guy on the defense considering he's had way more time on the field he's been around longer his career has been impressive I mean he's all pro second team like he's one of those guys that I think is underrated at his role but one of the best in the league at it so I was expecting Taran but seeing Terrell Bernard it also makes sense as well yeah I can see that I do like Taran Johnson in a leadership role and I could see you can like both yes but it's odd that he's been around and I know we had puyer and Hyde but there had been other players on offense like Dion was a captain a few years ago and then Gabe Davis was a captain Diggs became a captain they had different players in and out Mitch Morris certainly um but I think they want Terell Bernard to be that guy it is really something and I think Dan it's a little startling in a way that it's two and one of them is Terrell Bernard not that he's not but like it's not Bernard and three other captains right I was more surprised at the number not as much who they were if that makes sense yeah I could I could I thought there would be I think I tweeted out I think I had seven captains and I thought Bernard would be one of them on the defense along with I thought Von I thought trell Bernard and I thought Taran Johnson so I'm more surprised the fact of that there was only two more than who was actually selected as the captain so you tweeted out your guess I did so you were wrong well they could be on the Leadership Council no I said captains yeah we said captains well they're on the the captain Leadership Council that's captains there's only two pretty awkward just wait it's pretty awkward you were wrong Dan was wrong if you were following him on Twitter he thought there'd be seven he named all these guys there was only two yeah that's like pretty I had three I think pretty embarass had three or four we did that was my guess but we were close but it was I did have out of those seven two of them were trell Bernard and Josh Allen it's really Brave of you yeah way to go way to go no I I I was surprised by the number and then when I saw it was Terrell Bernard I was like that's really nice in my head I if you were gonna tell me that's that's real nice no like I get it very nice very nice I mean I get it I was more thinking though like if you were gonna if you were gon to tell me going into it there's two captains one offense one on defense I obviously say Josh Allen and I would have assumed it was Taran Johnson so I think Taran Johnson is probably on the leader ership Council sha mcder said there are 10 players on that as well in addition to the two captains but for Terrell Bernard I really like him in that Captain role I think we've seen a lot from him he's the maturity from him is pretty impressive what he's been able to do on the field as well I think for him it's continuing to evolve he did talk about how he was a captain in high school and how he's a captain in college so now this being at the professional stage I think he's very humble and I think that will go far for him in terms of his leadership quali yeah I I I'm with you on that with Bernard I just think back and it's part of a story you did for the TV station about you know Terrell Bernard I mean let's face it a year ago we were sitting there ready for the season to start and you're going yeah who's going to start at linebacker he hadn't played he hadn't been on the field who would have who would have thought that I don't know who would have thought that who would have thought that you is there a statute of limitations on these you also you didn't I believe during that time you thought later thought Dodson was going to start right you can't CLA you can't claim though that you knew that Terrell Bernard would be a star that's I didn't say a star that's so now you're twisting my take okay so no he just said he would start now that he would be a star I just want to make sure I just want to make sure now you're putting words in my mouth I never never said he'd be a star I years ago we heard that on the record I said two years ago he would be the starter Dan made a Sizzle reel about his takes today yes yes he did okay any other points on the captains no I I think it was interesting that that's what they did ding no but I think interesting is fair in that sense it was interesting that they only picked two so go from there go ahead okay so our other part of the podcast the news of the day on Wednesday uh was that sea mcdermit said that Demar Hamlin will be the starting safety for week one against the Cardinals on Sunday yep yep yeah yeah so you said it at the beginning of the year yeah you did or beginning of Camp you did it was a good that was a good get by you you think yeah yeah that was good I think that was good all right so let's look he's playing next to I'm I'm gonna keep this one here for a little bit Yeah so I mean yeah he's he's starting I think that's good I mean we we saw him start out your face Jenna can't no that was good it's actually really impressive too when you think about everything he's gone through we we got to ask him like on Wednesday just about the journey and he said last year was a lot about healing which let's be real makes total sense I mean what he went through was a catastrophic injury he wasn't even sure he was ever going to play football again let alone be back out on the field in a starting role so over him saying you know last year was about healing this year I really loved Mike what he said just about how he likes to have Post-it notes yeah on his mirror of like things that he is inspired by and one of them being that you know consistency is what makes you great essentially that's what he's saying yeah and I just his story really is and sometimes I feel like we're like oh you know like I asked Josh about it he's like we're really proud of dear you know I think he wants to put it past him which I understand but I think at moments like this you look back and you're like this is an incredible journey for someone so young so we remember when both the safeties got hurt I'm sorry the mug is the autofocus on this there we go you see what Jenna and I put up with you see what we put up with while are you done patting yourself on the back here NOP no no I'm not we knew the answer to that so go back to Dear from when he had to play like we didn't even think he would get on the field and then safety got hurt he didn't start that first game came in and then when puyer and Hyde were both out there he is out there on the field yeah and I do think a lot of people forget certainly people outside of Buffalo because there's a lot of Knuckleheads with a lot of comments about him last year why he was on the roster forgetting that the man started 13 games including the game obviously where he went into cardiac arrest right he had proven he is an NFL player certainly wasn't ahead of puyer and HDE to the best safeties in the NFL so when they came back the next year healthy both healthy he was returning from that but he still deserved to be on the roster but then to fight through that and to prove to the coaches yeah and I'm not doing this because you did say that whether he starts all year or not he has proven he's a player they want on the field I know they like Mike Edwards they drafted a safety in the second round so there are other guys there but who do they trust most at that position next to um I'm drawing Taylor I'm sorry I was draw a Taylor wrap it's Tomar H yeah I it goes back to when we talked at Camp before I had the hot take that I said my last note Mar Hamlin starting alongside Taylor rap yeah Sean McDermot talks about he's not taking a bow on this already Hing here he goes it's the first practice and Mike Edwards has not been out there with his and he's like I'm right we didn't distinct when we were talking about he was starting safety today at training camp day one day one I got it right it's me and how and listen dear's running a lot with the ones he is oh oh really man he can take he so insufferable a few moments later yeah Demar ham will start Jenna you just look so disinterested that I'm G to have to talk but I'm going to do it the fact of no I mean it's fine that when the safeties were when Mike Edwards was injured in OTAs in the offseason and then he was injured again heading into training camp that was when I said dear's going to start week one I I don't know if he's going to start the whole year like that is a different animal to talk about but the fact of matter is I always thought that McDermot and bean and babit were always going to side with somebody that had experience in the system and nobody had more experience than rap and Demar Hamlin again when when Michael went down with the neck injury in week two he played every single game and started and he was pretty good he had 990s something tackles like he played well for a seventh round pick coming out of Pittsburgh that was like oh this is the cool story then people forgot about all of that rightfully so because there was a life on the line but then it was like you forgot about dear Hamlin the football player and last year was the story of it's great that dear's back we're at training camp talking about him putting pads on again his family being there all these things now it's just back to Demar hlin the football player I think he wants to put it behind him I you know Sean even kind of talked about what can't this guy do it's been written about time and time again all the things that he's overcome and his incredible journey and the fact that it has a a good ending like all those things are amazing now he's got to perform exactly that's what I was gonna say now jenet it's totally fair to judge him as a football player and that goes for the coaches too and I think they felt that way we talked about trell Bernard like when he first came here he said that the game was so fast to him and and and the adjustments he made we saw that with Dorian Williams last year that like the game was just too fast and understanding an NFL Playbook I always remember Bobby babit going the Playbook goes from this at tan to this in in the NFL maybe Cole Bishop gets there and maybe next year Cole Bishop starts and that's their plan but it's not because they don't see him a future for him but like trell Bernard sat a whole year and then earned the starting spot and now he's a captain like it is understanding how important we've said it time and time again how important the safety position is for a Shawn McDermot defense which it still is yes Bobby babit will call plays this year but it is still a Shawn McDermot defense that has been anchored by the back end and the fact that dear has experience Taran Johnson said it at Camp when we asked him what's it like playing with guys behind you that aren't hide and poyer and the first thing he said was dear's playing like a guy that knows the system yeah well it's pretty obvious when you play safety there's usually nobody behind you right right so you better have the trust of McDermot and and he does I think it's great I think it's great for him I think it's also great that they do have competent other players let's see what happens Edwards gets on the field and Bishop I think they can have a role for Bishop I think he's a talented tackler he could be the rap of last year that's what I was thinking if he's that other safety I think they want to see that so they could give him smaller doses of what they want on the field but for right now it's dear and you know yeah the end of the chapter of wow I'm excited for him to be you know getting this opportunity now it is you're you're talking about okay now you're going to be judged based off what you do on the field and that's yeah I mean I'm sure as a football player that's what he wants too so credit to you I I I didn't hear that one you were right credit to so they announce the depth chart comes out and Demar Hamlin was listed as the starting safety and I went hey Demar Hamlin's the starting safety the dep chart and you guys went unless Shawn mcdermit says it it doesn't matter Shawn McDermot says it and what did Jen and I do they both look right back at me filming the the press conference i h there are few things must thought something was wrong we were both like there are few things better in life than being right about a take oh so good show hey Otani I'm going to message freezing hot takes to makes them put Dan show on their background the other thing I want to say is the list is growing I'm you know those that that Cleveland Browns jersey of all of the it's just gonna be Dan takes all right so I know Bob babich Senior Bob you watch tell Bobby first play of the season do not have dear on the field this is for us your friends at Buffalo deal with it's sick put another Corner another linebacker I don't even have a guy jump off sides what's five yards don't worry about it just Demar not on the field for the first play so that we can say he didn't start legitimately McDermot said Demar Hamlin will be the starter and I was tweeting out when will Dan tweet out credit to me and as I was tweeting that out Dan had already tweeted out credit credit to we're gonna make a shirt also yeah the credit to me shirts may be our best seller we haven't made it yet when we make them they will be our bestseller it's so good to be right you love being right M mvs though yeah well if mvs does lead the team in receiving yards then the bills are two and 15 okay I'm just saying it may it may end the podcast like like Buffalo plus May cease to exist if mvs has a thousand yard if he comes out the first game and has like 100 60 yards did you oh my God catches two bombs he's dancing down the field and Dan will be dancing the end cheering with him I'm actually shocked you figured it out so fast yeah it it well the captain talk was like why are we talking about the captains like let's I had a whole the surprise of the day Mike the captains the captains I had a whole I was like I'm going to do this and this and you took all of it away from me that was our goal that was and we succeeded is literally our strategy we're you know what I'm proud of you me it's not you make some hot takes but some of them are right the this one wasn't even that hot in terms of Bishop being a rookie and Edwards being injured like like I wouldn't have even said it I just thought the fact of the matter like knowing how important it is and again getting Demar back he played we I think we talked about at one of the mini camp practices he looked good had an interception honest did play well it was things that started to you're like I can still play and knowing that it was a pretty wideopen competition yeah it was and maybe if Bishop doesn't get hurt things are different but he did and I'm wrong but I'm not so you were correct in that and it's fine but he did get hurt and so an he got hurt at campar was also hurt he missed some time he did In fairness he did and he came back so hey really credit to Dear yes you know what Dan I think it's disgusting that you would take all this credit away from dear hin hey dear way to go way to go man Dan so gross that you take that away from dear make it about all this work who would like wish him to not be on the field for a first play it's like when I was right about Joe Andre way ahead of everybody else hey and I gave you credit you set it with your chest by the way did you hear that I gave you credit I didn't say boo Dan was like Hey credit to you cuz he's so good he loves giving credit mostly to and then I then we went on yeah and I'll probably never bring it up again yeah no it was weird being in the bills locker room and like the story of today not being Joe Andrew I know like he walked by as we're like waiting to talk to players and it was like oh there's there's Joe yeah yeah great story it's great story yeah phenomenal story credit to me you guys were so muted and yeah it was it was bad podcast I thought it was impressive I hope people stay to the I may put this part reindeer or reindeer Crossing deer crossing be a jugs Crossing I like that that's actually really good yeah we had a lot of good comments for shirts yeah yeah that's that's actually and we'll get one and put a credit to me shirt on the jugs machine when we go by so The Jug machine can be like credit to me I took out no yeah wait what was the what was babbit's shirt the one that was like Boomstick or what it was the shellac what was the one Shir yeah I'm trying to remember what it was the jugs machine would have earned that that day yes the biggest hit stick no that I can't remember what it was was like it's week one but it was like late jovial offseason summer mcder we talk about it all the time there's offseason Shan and then there's inseason shuts it down he does talk he's a professional unlike the way bich was with reporters yes I know bich don't give me that I'm talking about the way he talks to reporters says virtually nothing of importance but talks gives some information but he's serious I'm with Jenna today he was laughing joking so we're going to have this is Wednesday as we're taping this Thursday we're having our live show uh 7:15 here on the Buffalo plus YouTube channel live interaction it'll be our podcast too so it'll be up on audio the following day if you miss miss it but it was one of those things where Shawn talked about I've learned Shawn's buzzwords like his his verbal crutches uh well coached every team in the NFL is well coached yeah I I'm GNA go in a limb not every team in the NFL is well coached and the Arizona Cardinals may not be well coached but he will tell you that they are a well- coached team also quarterbacks have a buzz phrase about other teams they get paid to no that's one yes they fly around oh yeah that's a good one Josh said today cardinals fly around unfortunately they're been flying trying to chase the guy running into the end zone because they have been bad now that doesn't mean they're gonna be bad on Sunday yeah yeah but their strength is expected to be their offense but yes they always say that these guys are well coached they fly around they're gonna be tough at the end of the day that's a popular one at the end of the day it's like okay and credit to me and yeah who would ever say that loser babit is going to call plays def that was thing we learned today Sean said he's earned it he has confidence in him I did find his answer his one answer very comical or also very I mean he did say it was a human answer about the fact of when you have a defensive coordinator giving the play calling duties to a a defensive head coach giving the play calling duties to a defensive coordinator there are going to be times when they disagree on I would call this play and babage is going to call a different style of play he made Blitz when Shawn wouldn't and he's like that was what it was like for me with Ron Rivera defensive coach in Carolina and there does have to be that he said the key is to be on the same page during the week about what situations they going to be in but I think that is going to be tricky and I did find it amusing when I asked Shawn how his mentorship has been going because Bobby has been very complimentary of Shawn and his mentorship and he's like he doesn't say that when he slams the door and disagrees with me three times a day like that was offseason Sean joking around you know it reminded me Mike of you mentoring us where like when we do a story you would maybe do it in a different way but you have allowed us and let us tell a story in our own creative way even though it might not be exactly what you do I kind of thought of you honestly well that's very nice of you to say I thought you were gonna take a shot there no no it's like it's like when Grandpa teaches the grandkids how to fish no you know what it really is that was not nice you guys aren't nice what it is is having confidence in somebody to give them the opportunity and then putting them in the spot yeah to then do it on their own and I think babit has certainly learned a lot from McDermot they are obviously it's not just like he was a young coach came in for a little while and now he's going to call the plays no he's been around Shawn he knows the way Shawn calls a game I don't think these guys are going and listen Sean is the head coach he reserves the right to override something there's no question there have been there will be moments but this happens all the time I'm sure whoever they say calls the plays in Kansas City when it's not Andy Reid even though it's a lot of times Andy Reid yeah Andy Reid is Andy Reid you're gonna let him yeah do those things so I think there's I do think these two will be mostly on the same page and I find like that Dynamic too because Shawn talked about out in Carolina Rivera kind of said we got to build your own defense from the ground up and he's like I was never a part of that and so Rivera said that Rivera said that to Shawn and kind of that Dynamic and I feel like Sean even said it's going to be the bills defense but it's gonna be Bobby's like this is It's G to be under the umbrella just like anybody that has a cup of coffee with Shawn McVey like they learn from Shawn in some of the systems and the philosophies offensively but then they put their own FL and spin on it and like I we that was the first answer that I thought this defense could look different whether it's whether it's aggressiveness whether it's linebackers blitzing more whether that's safety blitzing more because that's where babit has his background under aan mcder defense he said taking over defense and then putting your signature on it as well so we will see what this Bobby babit signature will look like but I thought it was really cool when someone asked Terell Bernard just like on a personal level I think it was Josh Reed of uh IBB he asked to Terell like on a personal level what does it mean to you to see Bobby bavage get this opportunity and he lit up just like that dude deserves it like it's so happy to see that he's done so much for myself and for so many other players I he essentially said you know he's going to crush this new opportunity like he is going to be someone that these guys want to play for and are excited to play for so I think it's that is something that just the amount of juice that Bob babit has at a practice I'm like oh yeah that guy brings it what will be interesting said interesting for babit is the flow of the game we've talked about it on offense there is calling plays and then there's calling a game and I think that applies certainly to a defensive coordinator too and so all of us have to take a breath a little bit he is going to get a Tyler a Kyler Murray offense that they're really not 100% sure Marvin Harrison we haven't seen and then four days later you're getting Tua and all that speed in Miami so he's got to get through got to hydrate how like what do you think not the learning curve but like is leash the right word like what do you think for you know what I'm saying I'm thinking in terms of even the mechanics and going through this is why I believe they go through play calls like how you would go through a game before they've done it in the preseason and I think he has a lot of that but there's one thing of practicing and then there's another thing when it is real and it's a real game the full thing or players out or whatever it happens to be I think he'll handle it well I agree but it does take a little learning to me I'm most interested in the dynamic of being in the booth yeah like I know he did it in the preseason but like Bobby's always been on the field where you can grab the guy you can show your emotion we already saw a clip of him in the preseason being all fired up on a fourth down stop like you there's so many pieces from that Booth through the headset down on the field like there's so many moving Parts into that how do you adjust to that when you've been on the sidelines for so long you have to be in the booth a defensive coordinator it's I don't see how these coordinators ever Leslie was always on the field I don't like it I don't you know so was Sean yeah I just a joke I just think you see the field differently funny Jenna and listen Leslie played in the league yeah he was comfortable on the sidelines yeah and he had coaches he trusted upstairs I think it's good for babage to be upstairs would have been hilarious If Shawn was up in the booth then had like challenge like throw the flag get the T-shirt cannon he opens the window hey fires the cannon we're challenging he's yelling and he's wrong yeah I'm sorry hey was under he was perfect in the preseason I know well yeah look out he's freed up now he's not calling plays well they hired that guy was right the rules guy I was so right by the way I think you and I said babit was GNA call the plays yeah the beginning camp but then I just let it go because just because we all universally agreed we disagreed about Demar starting well I was rooting I already put in the clip I already put in the clip of you guys going one practice I don't talk like that he you know he quickly how quickly he edited that together yeah he had that locked and loaded you were ready to go when you're really passionate about something being right yep yep real passionate about it you got to take your WIS week uh tell your friends tell your friends about the live shows and we're planning on doing that most Thursday nights most Thursday nights obviously week two we'll be at the game for the Thursday night game but then most Thursday nights we're going to hydrate as 7:15 eastern time because we know it's Miami it's hot there yes sorry we know that talking about beer I don't know why trying to promote our Channel we know that many of you are not in the Eastern Time Zone we have people all over 7:15 eastern time on Thursday and as many Thursdays we'll put a post out to let you know for sure but we'll
