Reviewing Leagues Cup 3rd place match (Philadelphia Union vs Colorado Rapids)

all righty so now we're going to talk about the third place match that happened earlier and I know obviously not a lot of people watch this match itself even though it's kind of deem as the appetizer in terms of the main menu with the leads Cup Final happening right after this game but one thing for sure is that despite the fact that you know it's a lesser know known game compared to the leads Cup Final it was actually still a very entertaining game between both of these team and still there was something up for grabs in terms of this third place match as the winner of this match is going to clinch them a KF Champions Cup spot I gotta say you know coming into this game I don't think a lot of people gave Colorado any chances of getting that kav Champion Cup spot because you know well yes the union suffer a a a heartbreaking loss in the hands of the the Columbus Crew surely they can can rebound especially now that they're playing at home and the fact that not to mention the Rapids has to go on the road on on a short rest and basically had to travel all the way across the other side of the country you just feel like there was no way the Rapids can continue the Cinderella run that everybody thought that it ended uh on on um on Wednesday against lafc and mju they have still not have be beaten an MLS team in this Leagues Club all their victory has been against Le M's Club yeah that all changed in this game uh and also this is why we play the game in the first half uh Stephan with deny gast from close range as I thought the union were on the front foot uh in this one which is something we've seen throughout this tournament except for the last game that is but the Rapids obviously uh they they sit deep and try to absorb the pressure which is something we also seen a lot throughout this tournament that's kind of the reason why they've been very successful which is somehow absorb the pressure and then scoring in crucial moments uh Stephan then denied solvin in the near post was zanto he he really sucked because again uh it's not a union game and especially it's not a Philly crowd if the if the the ref use suck CH and the the does not rank now whatsoever but the shots up to that point were four nothing for the union 18 minutes in and up to this point it looks like it's gone according to scrip I mean the union are dominating this game yes they they they have missed some chances but eventually that's the same pressure is going to pay off right well Elliot then puts it away from the free k in the 20th minute before Stefan denied gasc from close rank up to that point the shots were now 6 nothing in favor of the Union uh the first shot for the Rapids didn't came until the 29th minute and they almost scor here too because Blake had to make a big save here to den9 Navaro and a chance for the Rapids to score on only their first shot on Target and completely against the Run of play and then they got their second shot of the game when loras puts one over the bar from long range and again the shots were out 6-2 for the union 30 minutes in but the union continue to have most of the possession they continue to control this game even though they they seems to have a lot of trouble in ter terms of unlocking a very disciplined Rapids back line and then in the 38th minute really against the Run of place Calvin Harris would score from Navaro to give uh the Rapids a one- nothing lead it was off of a lightning Counterattack and again when you have so many many possession like that and if you trying to continue to push man forward yeah you're going to left yourself exposed uh at the back and the union was definitely left exposed because of it the good news though for the union and at least of course good news for them but bad news for the Rapids that LE did not last long though because 3 minutes later guess who it's Ty bbo he scored from Wagner to ties the game up at one a piece uh Navaro did look to answer but he puts it wi in the 43rd minute but then in the 44th minute it's that guy that man again Ty bbo he cannot stop scoring so much so that he actually at that point took over the lead in terms of the Golden Boot boot race and he would not not let that lead lead slip as we mentioned earlier into's video you know Diego Rossi couldn't quite get another goal or even a brace to trying to retake that lead so yeah who would have thought that Ty bbo is your Golden Boot boot winner for the Le leads Cup this year and you know for for a guy that you know has been really been the one of the hottest number nine in the league like he he has been on fire ever since he he has gotten a a chance for the union I mean ever since Julian coranza left left this team it's almost like like a a blessing in disguise in the fact that yes losing coranza is is a a huge W for them but they got this guy called Ty baribo and he just cannot stop scoring goals both in the leads cup and also in MOS and I would not be surprised he continued to score score a b bunch of of goals and it's a shame the the the fact that I don't think there's a rookie of the the Year award and I don't think he's qualified uh for that because tyo has been on this team for a while but man talk about a guy that has just been been informed who would have thought that that he would be a guy that that could step in into the shoes of Julian coranza and probably uh equally as good as what julan k had had uh delivered for this Union team before he he he uh moved on from from this team uh just just uh this summer but it we do head to halftime with the Union leading 2-1 and unfortunately in the second half just like how the Rapids had the lead for a short amount of period uh the unit also had a short short amount of period with the leads in the second half because just four minutes in Oliver Lance would score an absolute Banger of a half on the volley that's only the second goal that Oliver Lance has scored uh in his career in MOS and with the Colorado Rapids and what a goal this is absolute Banger that was an absolute clinical finish from from from trying to hit that one half the all like you you had to to get that one completely right and loras did exactly that although on the other end svin did look to answer with a banger of his own but unfortunately he missed wi in the 54th minute it feels like the the script also kind of flipped as what we saw in the beginning of of the the first half where I thought the Rapids were now the one that had most of the possession and the union were looking to sit sit back and counter uh Basset with then puts wi from close range before laras puts it high in the near post svin then hits one right to stefen and then I also thought that this game feel like it's on a night fch because there's no chances for both of these team and again for a third place match usually third place match doesn't matter but you know this is a a third place match where there's a crucial show con Camp Champions Cup spot that is up for for gramp NE next year and both of these team wants to get that that that win um mcglen tried to get that third goal but he puts it wide from long range before the post would deny abubakar from the header that almost was like a slow motion go because uh the way that abubakar hit that that one it was re really uh had head with no power whatsoever and it just kind of clinged off off the post there that was almost kind of a very slow mo motion goal that that was scored by the Rapids uh biso then puts it y from long range and as PK looms you know both of these team they were still pushing hard to try to get that cruo third goal trying to get thems a bur to the con Champions Cup next year and uh in the 88 minute maxo almost handed that that concave Champions Cup birth to the Union as he almost scored an own goal here this was one when the ball come into the box from the corner you know when you're you're a Defender those you you got to make sure you you hit that one correctly because if you hit it wrong it's going to go into the back net and here maxo hit that one wrong and he's very fortunate it went over bar we've seen it so many many times where when when Defender trying to defend a a corner and again they had it wrong and it's in in the back of their their own net but that being said uh we do head into a PK shootout as there was no winner after the regulations so so far in the PK shootout this has been where the Rapids love love this this tournament so much because you know it's hard to believe but all their win so far this this leads cup has come in in the PK show they have not lost a single PK Sho Sho out um in fact the whole reason why they got to this point was via a a PK shootout against uh leyon so with that experience against a union team that you know they did win that one round against ma ma Salan you just kind of had a feeling that the advantage was with the Rapids heading into that PK shootout and it kind of shown because in the PK shootout while the Rapids made all the their well actually they made all but one PKS uh with col Rowan missing in uh round number number four biso which struck the post in in in the round number for and on that F falling penalty Miss from from Conor Rowan and and uh actually the union Miss three of their four PKS in this PK show Zack stefen saved two of them and honestly Zack stefen I think based on this leads cup performance and I've said this before this might have earned him another shot in terms of being with the US man's national team because he's been very solid throughout uh this leads cup run especially with with PK shou heroics I would not be surprised that that the us man national team might call Owen Zack stefen and in case you know in a tournament itself or even in the World Cup itself do not be surprised if they just call Goen Zack stefen uh to take take uh to be the PK uh shootout goalkeeper because it seems like as as what we've seen so far in this lead cup he he's been been been on point and he has won all all of them them so far so yeah with that uh the kav Champions Cup first goes to the Colorado Rapids and and they win in the PK sh 31 it's the fourth PK shootout that they won in the leads cup which I think that has to be a record because I don't think there's any team has Wun that many PK shootout shots in this one 10 shots be the 16 that the union had six shots on go be the four that the Rapids had three shots off Target be the four that the union has two shots on block be the four that the union has and possession points 58% possession compared to the 42% possession the Rapids has in this game and I already can hear that I know some people will say well the Rapids have been s Super Lucky and they don't deserve this Con Champions Cup SP because they they have they they haven't won any any games in in regulation and it feel feels like like it's another added layer to to the problem of this leads cup which you know that's going to be something I I'll I'll talk a lot about probably uh on Tuesday in terms of talk about The Good the Bad and the Ugly in terms of this the this leads Cup Tournament but I argue that the the Rapids uh by by winning all these PK shootout not only they they they deserve to to get the CCC uh SP fought because of the miracle run but they they deserve it even more because it's one thing to to win a PK show but to win four in a row uh like like that and the the fact that they had to come back back so many times and doing this Cinderella run they absolutely deserve to to win wi win this this uh or at least get get a birth in terms of K champ C I almost said that they deserve to win the the leads cup even though they didn't make it uh to to the final but for the Philadelphia Union that this has got to be be disappointing and and just add another lay layer o of this disappointment um in a game game where you know again they were heavy favorites coming into this game against Rapids team that that had a had a great Cinderella run that came to an end against LFC and nobody thought that they could have done it do it again against the union yeah uh the union did did it again failing in a big big moment like that and that just add to another another layer of the fact that yeah it is pretty clear that they they need to go through a rebuild and uh the rebuild could start as soon as this off season and that's even if this team somehow make it to the playoffs in the East and maybe go on a deep run but if it doesn't res in the trophies it is pretty clear that The rebu Bu is going to be be be happening and as I said it's kind of already started with one of their core pieces uh Jose Martinez no longer uh with this team after they sold him off to Corinthians
