Camila cardoso Lindsay Allen head coach Teresa Weatherspoon speak after the loss to e Connecticut Sons check out the video I asked about like how you how you do adversity and she said that you guys don't see adversity you see us playing basketball so I just want to your thoughts on um yeah it's basically what she said I feel like we don't feel much pressure because this is something we love to do and that's something we appreciate when how they're doing we have fun playing with each other so it's best of just playing basketball sorry say that [Music] again I think just our defense um we didn't really do what we talked about doing um in practice and then shoo around and according to it's SC report so just locking in on that and continuing to do it consistently it's been an issue for us all season so um yeah just defensively more person oh no it's okay thank you like especially this it seemed like this team when I've seen pass even with the younger players you mind a game like this they play hard but they don't check out it like you guys in a second you if you didn't see the score you would have thought you guys were and you were trying fight keep going if you just talk about the mentality and character of this team especially from aeteran standpoint and also stand character team seems like's no team situ yeah it's definitely something that we've been trying to to um build throughout the season um not quitting ever I think for us early in the season we would quit when we were down like late in the game like fourth quarter um but in our situation we were only down 10 at halftime so we felt like we had 20 minutes to really turn it up and that's what we did in the third quarter so we want to always start the quarter strong especially first quarter and third quarter um and just continue to play hard play for each other and play together yeah um I just feel like got some dogs in this team and we're going to play hard no matter what the score is and we're just going to play for each other so when we out there we just try keep playing hard don't matter what any more for players in person players only [Music] please no you're okay switch for the team you said I want to say you guys scored over 20 points in the third quarter can you talk about the mindset that she you guys yeah I think we always want to be the aggressors in the game so how we want to start the game you always want to punch first um I thought we did a good job with that to start the game in the first quarter and then like I said in the third quarter we always want to um start that quarter well um as well so I think for us like staying confident staying aggressive being the aggressor um and just keep them on their toes which is what you saw we were getting into the paint We were finishing we're getting offensive rebounds um Camila and Angel were playing hard they were helping us out defensively for sure as guards um and we were just like figuring things out and that's what coach wants us to do as a team we kind of she wants us to figure it out together figure it out in game action in live game action so that's what you saw any more in person all right we'll move to zoom Kyle uh yes um just kind of you guys uh really started locking down in that third quarter and that fourth quarter what kind of spur that defensive turn around after halftime um just being disruptive that's what we always want to do um and so you saw a little bit of that you know when we're disruptive and we get them the Miss shots we get we rebound and we just run um and we keep the defense off balance in that way Carly please unmute for players only uh Camila how would you assess the growth that you've seen uh out of your game especially your shot range um in the second half of the Season we've just seen you take more shots that are not just right around the rim is that something that you really worked on and is that something that we're going to see later on this season um yeah that's something I worked on and my teammates and my coaches show me so much confidence so they made me feel comfortable just start shooting range thank you last question for players from Mike please onute hey guys appreciate the time uh my only question is for Lindsay you've talked about how you pride yourself in watching film and preparing for your guard defensively assignments throughout the year um you know this is your first time playing against Marina since she's been traded and I'm wondering is there a difference between your preparation whether that's watching film when it's to someone you've played with the entire year up to this point um no it's not different and I think with Marina it's kind of a special situation because I've been knowing her for years obviously with the college together um so I've known her since 2014 2015 whatever it's been even before with her sister at Notre Dame so I think I've just been knowing her game for so long um and obviously she's improved and gotten better but um just been watching her obviously on the same team as her this season for a little bit so yeah it's not much different thank you thank you players thank you start question for coach in person team came out in the third quarter with different mentality took I just want to ask you what was your message to the team we'll leave that in the locker room leave that message in the locker room but they came out and met the challenge you know is um it's important for us to follow the game plan for 40 minutes and when we do uh we were pretty successful and then I want actually follow there were successful actions between Lindsay I just want to get connection it's a lot of work that's been put in in practice a lot of work and uh they're following through with all the things that we're trying to implement and they're looking really really good at it coming off the screens finding the rolls finding the bigs you know caging guards and then finding a big Ste uh but they're just making sure that everybody gets a touch and our bigs are definitely getting touches when our bigs get touches it really makes us successful and it opens up things for our guards in the perimeter any more person you think ex the first line and defensively everything was defensively you know when you're giving putting them at the free throw line fouling putting them at the free throw line um that's kind of tough for us defending without we want to defend without fouling and uh we had some defensive miscues and letting people be wide open um and that's definitely not who we are defensively we're aggressive and uh we weren't that in the second in in the first half so kind of got us behind the second half started in the third quarter which is a very very important quarter very important for us to start off well and we did we hit first and we kept hitting and we kept hitting kept hitting and unfortunately at the end um things turned in their favor coach often in the Los coaches don't like to talk about more victories but there seem to be a lot of positive building blocks for your team moving forward um as a coach you can pull out some positive building blocks from your team moving for well it's definitely a lot of positives no matter what you always can find positives but of course I'm not want to talk about moral victories and you're correct because it's not what we're in here for we're not in here for that but when you look at how we started that third quarter off and how aggressive we were the level of intensity we played with uh the enthusiasm we played with the the togetherness we played with and everybody was just on the same page and when we see that we know we got something very special so we take all of those things that we did in that third quarter all the way to the end of the game and we can build off of those things than Frank um if you want to add on that coach I don't know it's kind of a similar question um it just seemed like when it happened I mean you would have thought you guys were trying to keep them from getting lead and you would have thought like and had 20 points the way she was playing on the court like even though she had no points for the first half if you just speak about the character like this it just the team was just they had no qu the most teams I've seen I've seen players they'll continue to play hard but they kind of check out it with this team it wasn't checking out it was it wasn't you just gonna play hard we are coming to win this game in the second half if you speak about to the character team because you have some you have you have young players to check out yeah we don't we don't own a to to throw in we don't own that on this team we don't give up no matter what it looks like we always believe that we're in it and we can win it that's why we come to any gym to go play to win we go we go to win um everyone speaks about That We're Young we're growing yes we're young and we're growing but we're competitors those young women are incredible competitors and they want to win so they came out with an incredible amount of grit in that second half to go win a game um that I'm I can be proud of I can be super proud of them coming out in this second half but we came to win we came to win so we walk away of course you're you're not the happiest you're not the happiest because you want a w um but we will take the film we will learn from all those things that we need to be even better at and you'll say this all season long but that's what you have to do you got to go right back to the drawing board you got to pull out those things that you didn't do so well and then show how well you did do them and how successful you can be we go to Carell on Zoom please unmute hey coach how would you assess uh Camila cardoso's growth in this second half of the Season we've just seen her take more shots outside of just that restricted area around the rim we've also seen her defensive uh defensive game just grow how would you assess what you've seen out of her in the second half of the Season she just more comfortable that's what happens when you continue to play the game she's more comfortable I've said this again she's meeting the challenge I've challenged her she's meeting the challenge know she's not afraid to shoot the ball and I don't want her to be we're not boxed athletes over here we're we're athletes who want to be you know comfortable and she's very comfortable right now she's sure of herself and there's a lot of confidence that we tried to just pour into her as a as a staff as well as her teammates she's just feeling much better about herself and where she is to help this team to be successful and it's great to see it's awesome to see any and then just a followup um turnovers were also a problem today 16 turnovers we haven't seen that high of a number since prior to the all-star break I know probably film will show the answer to this but just your first assessments on what kind of led to more turnovers than what we've seen out of your team in the last three to four games lack of execution lack of execution when that ball moves and you move it as a unit ball movement player movement that's what it means you can't move it as some as as a single player it has to move as a team and we were we were not finding the open players and U having to turn it over and kind of fell into their aggression a little bit uh instead of just taking care of the ball and finding the open person so uh we turned it over numerous times and when you take a look at how many points they scored scored off of those turnovers there's the game take a look at the free throws how many free throws they took and how many they made there's a gay anymore thank you thank
