hey welcome into the Max Preps podcast I'm Steve Montoya with Zach p and Zach what a time it is right now High School football's back up and rolling and last week I mean it got us going for sure that was I mean ARA be the best uh week of high school football I've seen in quite some time you know all the national games lived up the hype you saw Corner Canyon upset IMG BOS Shaman great game Bishop Gorman prevailed setting up a number one ver number two match up here next weekend so but we got some good games coming up this week I can't wait to hit on yeah for sure and that's what the podcast is going to be B we're just talking High School football from big games we'll we'll get some guests on the show we'll talk about uh some games from the previous weeks even maybe look uh further ahead and speaking you hit on IMG corner corner Canyon first time these two teams have ever met uh you know the IMG from Florida goes out to Utah uh 21 to seven then it's 2814 and half what are you thinking at that point and then what a what a finish and and what a victory for Corner Cannon hey I'm not going to lie I was feeling kind of dumb cuz I was the only one that picked Corner Cannon it was 2814 at half and you know IMG was just dominating the line of scrimmage doing whatever they wanted on offense but Jackson dart's little bro diesel Dart made the play of the game for me it was 2814 IMG fourth and goal at the eight and he makes a Big Time Tackle to get a turnover on downs and really from there Corner can kind of just took control and Helman cuga fourstar Junior quarterback he was throwing dimes and uh you know 247 Sports was spot on with Jerome miles listed him as a f-star wide receiver because he was the best player on the field last uh Thursday night he what went for six grabs for a buck 25 and three Tes had that big time one-handed touchdown too but a great win and that just shows you man don't be scared to play Big Time programs like IMG Academy because you look at Corner Canyon they went from 18 to number six in the top 25 rankings and a lot of teams won't want to play a team like IMG but that just shows you you got that team chemistry sometimes that means more than having a bunch of Allstars on one team yeah and what do you think for IMG I mean obviously they they play a National schedule they they want to play anybody anywhere and and and then they come out and take a tough loss here in week one we're going to hit on the game coming up but for them going 0 and one it it really hurts their chances be number one at the end yeah it's tough cuz you know they don't play in a playoff format where you can get hot like a modern day or BOS if they drop a game earlier in the season you win that CAF section title win a State title that goes a long way so IMG doesn't have that opportunity so yeah it will be tough but luckily for IMG they get Bergen this week and then they play Coco the following week so if they go back-to-back performances with big wins that could go well for them to see them jump back into the top five top six possibly yeah another game we saw this weekend at the Broward County showcase was St Thomas coinus yeah Bishop Gorman another fantastic football game uh I know we've somewhat looked ahead just internally talking about Gorman again against Moder day coming up on September 6 but this one lived up to up to the hype St Thomas coinus this was a heck of a football game yeah it was a great game you know it took about an hour to finally kick off but luckily it got going and that I would you know Broward showcase does a great job putting on the events for these kids and it's great when the games live up to the hype and that one for sure did and you know Julius Jones his dad was a former running back in the NFL his son's absolute baller class of 2027 wi out for aquinus he had a huge game he had that long touchdown to put them up 2110 in the third and it's like oh man aquinus might pull this off but then Gorman did what they needed to do found a way to win I was super impressed with Melvin Spicer a senior quarterback kind of getting under recruited a low three star but if he keeps playing like that he's going to start getting some power four offers here but yeah you know it sets up a number one versus number two for us which is going to be great when modern day and Bishop Gorman play because a lot of people last year thought those were the two best teams in the country and we get to find out here next week I can't wait man I'm fly out there yeah you got your ticket booked pretty fast yeah I did man so I'm looking forward to that and I figure that's the perfect first game to uh to go to this year so but yeah impressive win for Bishop Gorman I was super impressed with them after trolling 2110 to come back and pull that out yeah 22 in a row for the gal so heading into sanana that's going to be a good one for sure and the the Florida teams you know didn't have the greatest weekend but they showed out they played well sha like Shaman amadana I mean they they played well when they were playing St John BOS that was another great football game we were talking about it earlier you you were hitting on how young St John bosow is and how bright their future is next year but they're not bad this year either yeah and that's what I say man you know get them now if you can cuz they're going to be so much better even halfway point of this year but I was impressed man that's the thing with Jason negro he's got his team ready to go you could tell they were ready there were a lot of penalties in that game both ways and I don't think that was because of the players I think the refs were just ready to get an arm workor out in but yeah Ma fuava Junior quarterback he had a huge game for the Braves super impressed with him he threw for over 300 yards had three total touchdowns and uh you know you saw Maki Blackwell Allen have that big time run to win the game for bosow so yeah Braves got a lot of talent in 2026 and 2027 so they're going to be a player this year and I can't even imagine how good they're going to be next year yep and and then Milton from Georgia another great game American Heritage 3728 Milton's impressive and and watch out for Georgia they kind it's kind of a state sometimes that gets left under Florida California Texas but Georgia's got some dudes and Milton's a a great football team yeah and you know it's funny yeah Texas California Florida always get talked as a top three but Georgia's like hey guys we're right there in that that discussion too and yeah the crazy thing for me is Milton has played five consecutive games if you go back to last year they've played five straight ranked opponents and they've won all those games I don't know if that's ever happened before where team has played five straight ranked opponents and won all five of those games so yeah they're doing big- time things Ben Reeves Great coach from Milton LED them to a 7A State title last year where I don't think a lot of people thought they were going to win it and they're playing great this year Luke nickel absolute baller at quarterback and uh you know TJ Lester's been having a great season two as the running back there but yeah another impressive win for Milton and you look at the rest of their schedule they're going to be favored at every game they play from here on out so I wouldn't be surprised if Milton goes undefeated and wins a 5A State title in Georgia yeah and if they do that I mean they're right there in the mix for number one 100% yeah that's the thing where it's so important to schedule these big out of state games where you can go back at the end of the season you kind of compare big wins and this will go a long way for them especially if you know American Heritage they look very good if they you know went out the rest of the year win a State title it's going to be big and same thing with Buford too because they're in sixa so if Buford does well in the playoffs that's going to help Milton out too so two big time wins for Milton no doubt and let's talk about the number one rank team modern day uh they played Centennial it was no who on Long Street so but yeah so does that waver your opinion on modern day at all or you just think that hey game one Centennial is a great football team it's good game we'll see what they got September 6th or yeah I mean I feel like we modern day is rank where they should be I feel like you look at this team most complete team in the country for me they got the best receiving core they added Chris Henry Jr a five star in the class of 2026 to go with Marcus Harris and Oklahoma commit to go with Kaden Dixon Wyatt one of the best receivers in the class of 2026 I was impressed with Dash barley Washington committ at quarterback big shoes to fill you know Elijah Brown was a big time winner at modern day and dash was balling Jordan Davidson stud running back and then the defense they're loaded all three levels too so yeah we'll find out September 6 because Gorman's going to be ready Gorman has gotten better each week they came out a little flat uh some turnovers penalties against Kahuku looked better in the second half against aquinus so I think they got a lot of momentum going into that game uh if I had to pick right now I'd go modern day but we'll we'll do picks next week so we'll see I'm sure we'll be talking about that a little bit next week all right let's let's look ahead and it's great when games are on Thursday it kind of kicks the the week off and uh you know we're talking about IMG they're going to be playing Bergen Catholic at the uh the battle at the beach and a bounceback game potentially for IMG yeah and Bergen Catholic we we'll see what they're made of right out of the gate there this is their first game what do you see between number 10 and number 17 yeah I I'd expect IMG to bounce back they've never started 0 and2 in program history you got to go all the way back to their nog season first time they played football they lost two games that year only time they've ever dropped two games in a season I think IMG is going to bounce back in a big way and I expect them to Wi by a couple touchdowns against Bergen but we'll see man Bergen and catholic's got some Ballers you know Quincy Porter Ohio State commit he was our Max Preps New Jersey player of the year as a junior last season Big Time wide receiver so we'll see and I know they want you know do better than they did last year against a nationally ranked team from Florida and shaman on Madonna they got beat pretty bad so they want to have a Better Effort this year but I think IMG is going to bounce back and you know they're going to be hungry this week after having that sour taste in their mouth their mouth from losing 3534 yeah last time these two teams met 5947 shootout back in 20 jerck Gano quarterback for Bergen Catholic former Tennessee Stud so Y and you know the quarterback was for IMG Shay Patterson okay yeah I would I wouldn't have got that one all right let's let's look now we also have another great game St Joseph's prep St Edwards battle top two top 25 teams this at least in the Max Preps ERA this first time these two teams have met and you know Philadelphia or Pennsylvania Ohio these are just two states you you know they're going to be hitting each other hard and this is going to be a great football game on the field looking forward to this one yeah those two States man that's like uh you know bring your lunch pel to workday you know like those are hard hats everything where they're just gritty States when it comes to high school football and these are two of the most winous programs you know St Edward has won seven State Titles since 2010 three consecutive D1 State crowns and St Joe's Prep they've won eight since 2013 and they're the back-to-back 6A state champs and uh you know St Edwards look very good last week 28 nothing shut out wi against Pickerington North St Joe's Prep this will be the season opener they got some dudes man and uh you know they got Marvin Harrison Junior's little brother jet Harrison I don't think he's going to play much as a freshman this year but he'll be a name to watch down the road but St Joe's Prep they're loaded with four and couple of five stars three stars I I think they're going to pull out a win here on Saturday and their season opener against a very tough St Ed Squad all right we're going to go back to to California and actually not very far from us down the street this one right now you know Sarah and folon it's become a little bit of a rivalry in the last couple years playing um Sarah's took the last couple games from fome and and right out of the gate this could be potentially who gets that open bid from from Northern California obviously D La s's in the mix and other they play Grant this week as well but Sarah folsome we we got to see a little bit of Ryder Lions what he's made up with that run that dude is he's nasty he's he's the real deal yes um so Sarah fome Sarah lost a lot of dudes from last year how you how you feeling about this game yeah this is a big game for fome you know as you said like the winner of this game is probably going to control their own destiny when it comes to representing Northern California in the open division State title game in December so you know folon wants to win this one they want to show hey we're the Top Dog in Northern California well hey here's your opportunity you know go out and prove it with Ryder lions at quarterback though I think they got a good chance you know our guys Sean was there on the field last week get some good footage I think that play got about 300K views where he pretty much ran through everybody on Long Beach paully I'll say this though Paulie's not the old pully you know so they'll get a they'll get a real test this week and I think I think fom's going to come out with the win it's kind of crazy though if you think about it all the great teams fsam has had in the past they have never once played in the open division State title game Grant's played in it once Sarah's played in it three times and de LA's played in it the rest I know fome wants it and when when you got a quarterback like that you're going to be in any any game and if you're a fan of like California high school football too you want to see something new like you don't want to keep seeing modern day BOS Play De salera you want to see them get some fresh blood and play a team like fulson that's got ryer allons his you know Carter Jackson looked good last week as he came back to fome you know obviously Jameson pal stud Isaiah Williams they got a lot of playmakers that rer Alliance can get the ball to the defense played well we'll find out this week and uh you know coach Walsh always has his guys ready to play so that's going to be a fun game and uh you know if you're out here in the Sacramento area I'd recommend going to that game Friday if you got a chance because that's going to be a big boy football game in Northern California yep all right from California let's go to Maryland deama Archbishop Spalding uh two teams kind of right outside the top 25 32 is MAA and Archbishop Spalding at 35 um what do you think about this game these you know in your top 100 these are two teams that are right there and could make their way into the top 25 with a couple big wins yeah I mean outside of cter Canyon you can make a case Spalding had the best win last week they dominated Archbishop hobin who's you know Premier program in the state of Ohio I was impressed that game it caught me off guard a little bit I I thought hobin was going to compete and win that game and Spalding dominated from the start uh hey they want to prove they're the Top Dog in Maryland here's your chance go play the damaa Stags so I think damaa is going to come out hungry and I think they're going to have enough guys to get the job done but uh you know uh Spalding Malik Washington at quarterback uh fourstar Maryland commit and they got this cat of 2027 wide receiver miles McAfee they call him scrap he had three touchdowns last week in the first half so uh like that Nick yeah you got you got to love that one but I think damaa is going to find a way to win but the winner of this game is going to position themselves you know for a good chance of jumping the max prep's top 25 here pretty soon all right back uh to Georgia Rome they're kicking their season off ranked number 90 they're going to go up against number 12 Carolton tough tough start of the season for them but in Georgia you never know great quarterback on Carolton side of the ball that's for sure yeah and you know I'm a UFC guy he's a 2025 USC commit fourstar he's a five star for me you know this is a guy who's been putting up numbers he's our Max prep's freshman Player of the Year Max Prep sophomore Player of the Year threw for 96 touchdowns his first two seasons reclassified now a senior this year and this is the best Carolton team he's been on in my opinion you know as freshman year they went all the way to the State title game last year made it to the quarterfinals this year I think they're going to have a good chance to win the 6A State title big test this week though you know Rome you know luckily no one was hurt seriously when their bus got into that accident so they had to cancel their first game so they get to play Friday night they got a linebacker Jaden Haron one of the best in the country Alabama commit so it's going to be a fun match up but I think Carlton's got too many Playmakers for Juju to get the ball to Ryan Mosley pton Zachary couple of stud running backs very good defense I think it's going to be a tough night for Rome I expect Carolton to win by a couple touchdowns all right Florida Northwestern Venice good match up in the State of Florida what do you like in this game hey Teddy Bridgewater era full in effect right now Northwestern they that was a nice win last week they won 45 nothing against Coconut Creek and uh they're playing great ball right now I'm I'm on the bandwagon man I think Teddy Bridgewater has already turned this program back to what he used to be you know back when he was a quarterback there they were competing for national championships I don't know if they're going to be quite there this year but they're going to definitely be in the mix to win a State title they get a chance to prove it though this weekend against Venice Venice put up 63 last week they got uh Winston Watkins Jr a stud wide receiver he went for over 150 yards and three touchdowns last week so I expect a lot of points but I think northwestern's going to find a way to win this team is just fully back in Teddy Bridgewater Calvin Russell absolute stud five star Junior wide receiver too so I think if you're the scoreboard guy at that game you're going to probably hurt your fingers punching in all those numbers so yeah how cool is that for for the kids on that team when you get I mean it's not like he was in the NFL a long long time I think he's 31 32 he's still young and sometimes when when former NFL guys come back they're retire they've been retired from long time and some of the players may not have watched yeah them play they I mean he was in the NFL not long ago yeah I mean it's funny too cuz right when he retired after your Niners took down the lions in the NFC championship game that's right everybody knew he was coming to coach at Northwestern so this is something that was already in the making and I love just the way that he's you know he puts the whole city of Miami on his back and represents for the Northwestern bull so it's good to see Northwestern back on the map because this is one of the Premier programs in South Florida Florida and it's always better when they're playing like this yeah no doubt all right we're going to finish back back in Utah we we started with Corner Canon they got Lone Peak 2 and 0 instate matchup I mean maybe a little bit a big win hangover if you're Lone Peak that's maybe your lone chance does Lone Peak have a real chance I think they do the reason why I say they have a chance is uh Corner can is riding that high right now too they just beat IMG Academy they're feeling Untouchable hey Lone Peak man it there's something different about these instate games where you play teams you know they always play Corner Canyon tough they're very good in the trenches have a great offensive line good defensive line and that's usually where games are won but I'll say this man Corner Canyons offensive line showed they can hang with just about anybody last week the way they played against a loaded front seven that IMG has Corner Canyons right up there with Bishop Gorman modern day and IMG one of the Premier offensive lines there's reason why Helman cuga is getting all this time to throw for 400 yards every night and he's one of the number one player pages on Max press the last couple weeks a lot of interest in him yeah all right Zach that's uh Max Preps podcast number one next week we'll be
