let's start the preview this game here and give you some Intel for what these two teams did throughout this off season key free agency I conditions Philadelphia is always very aggressive in free agency making trades that's just how hoe Roseman operates as an executive in this league whereas the Green Bay Packers are a little bit more conservative as far as their spending goes saquan Barkley Bryce Huff CJ Garner Johnson Devin white and McKai beckon the big free agent acquisitions for the Eagles this off season and then for Green Bay they did pay big time money to Xavier mckin the former giant safety he's making $17 million per year they brought in Josh Jacobs he's making about 1112 million per year and then their new kicker is Greg Joseph and for this game here tonight I know that in the infancy of it just like last night it might be a little bit ugly it might be a little bit sloppy officials might get overly involved because they're trying to enforce rules that the NFL is forcing upon the officiating crew but once these two teams find a rhythm once they knock off some of that rust I think tonight we are going to see a tremendous football game and a matchup between two of the top teams in the NFC if Philadelphia or Green Bay is representing the NFC in the Super Bowl come February in New Orleans for Super Bowl 59 won't surprise me at all I think it's the 49ers it's the Eagles it's the Packers and the lions in that upper crop of teams in the NFC and then there's a little bit of a drop off after that now the 2023 offensive stats for both teams very interesting because Philadelphia got off to that fast start 10- one then they lost six of seven down the stretch the Green Bay Packers were pretty mid to start the 2023 campaign and then they caught fire the back half of the year and they made it into the playoffs snuck in as a wild card team and in the Wild Card round they just annihilated the Dallas Cowboys and we know how last year went for Philadelphia was ugly the offense was Vanilla the offense was predictable but because they had so much talent even given the offensive system and play calling was atrocious look at these offensive rankings for Philadelphia this would make you optimistic going into this year that with better coaching better play calling better play designs and better situational awareness led by new offensive coordinator Kell Moore Philadelphia should have a very Eliot offense this year because despite the struggles that year ago Philadelphia was seventh in points per game ninth in yards per game fifth on third down rate ninth in the red zone and they go 11 and six Green Bay on the other hand eighth in points per game 10th in yards per game third on third down conversion rate and then 17th in the red zone so when they did get inside the red area 20 yard to the goal line they did struggle a little bit Green Bay going nine and eight and they needed every win down the stretch defense L this is a huge Focus for Philadelphia in this game and it was a massive area of focus for hoe Roseman to really rebuild the linebacking core the cornerback room and the safety Room Philadelphia last year had one of the worst defensive Seasons that you will ever see the Eagles gave up the third most passing touchdowns in the NFL last year the Green Bay Packers led by quarterback Jordan love through for the third most touchdowns in the National Football League so what gives tonight but you look at some of the numbers my goodness this is ugly and hopefully Vic fangio can turn this ship around the Birds 30th in points per game 23rd in yards per game 30th on third down conversion rate among the 32 teams in the NFL 29th in the red zone so pretty much they were giving up touchdowns anytime a team made it inside the red area and then 27th in takeaways Philadelphia not good in the turnover differential department and then Green Bay defense L they also made a switch at defensive coordinator this off season they hired Jeff Halley who used to be the head coach of Boston College he comes in as the new DC to take over for Joe woods and last year the Packers weren't great defensively either and that's why I kind of side with Philadelphia here tonight because I have more trust in vic fangio to get it right than Jeff Halley Green Bay 13th in points per game defensively a year ago 22nd in yards per game 28th and third down conversion rate 13th in the Red Zone and then 26th in takeaway so both of these teams really struggled to generate giveaways and last year as we know these were two teams on opposite trajectories both playoff teams but the Eagles nose dived and then the Green Bay Packers were ascended Philadelphia started the year 10- one finished 11- six the Packers went seven and three in their last 10 games as Jordan love really started to find his confidence and this off season he was made the highest paid quarterback in the of the National Football League let's get the comment section Eagles this off season and one of the biggest reasons why I think they're going to be vastly improved new coordinators Brian Johnson had no play calling experience as an offensive coordinator last year Shawn Desai had one year of play calling experience as a defensive coordinator prior to last year and their inex experience showed they didn't have a feel for the game their game management was not good their situational awareness was lackluster their play designs and schemes weren't good either and they both seemed to be in over their skis for a team that just had made it to a Super Bowl the Eagles were very inexperienced at the coaching positions outside of Nick serani and because of that they played like a very sloppy team that was not buttoned up that could be further from the case this year in 2024 Kellen Moore has led multiple top five offenses as an offensive coordinator in this league and Vic fio has been a defensive coordinator longer than I've been alive offensively and defensively we're going to see drastic scheme changes and that's what I'm so excited to see here tonight and I saw Zack Burman who's been covering this team for so long and now he's on air at phly does a great job over there he said before the game keep an eye out for how the Eagles utilize Devonte Smith last year Philadelphia was 302 in pre- snap motion I think that Devonte Smith is going to be a frequently used motion man and because of that he's going to be open a lot and because the Eagles are going to run a lot of pre- snap motion and because Ken Moore is a really good play designer and play caller I think that Jaylen Herz is going to bounce back I'm also looking out for the impact of saquin Barkley the last two years years his Giants offensive lines were bottom three in a run block win rate and run block efficiency the Philadelphia Eagles during that same time frame top three sequan has also not played ever on a team with this many weapons around him or with a legitimate quarterback like Jaylen Herz so I think that saquan especially with the versatility in which you can use him he's going to pop off this year the defense at all three levels I'm keeping my eye out for that because Philadelphia is unproven at defensive line they're unproven at linebacker and the secondary has been completely remade and without Isaiah Rogers quinan Mitchell the 22nd overall pick out of Toledo who in the last two years had 44 pass breakups just a merchant and making plays on the football he's going to play a lot on the outside as is key Ringo when Ringo is outside occasionally quinan will move to the slot when quinan stays out on the outside we will see a lot of avonte Maddox playing slot nickel and then lastly Philadelphia needs to get their mojo back they lost that last year when they had lost six of seven but there were so many reports about how even when the Eagles went 10 and one there was this Dark Cloud hovering over the team coming off that Super Bowl loss everything was hard everything was arduous everything was difficult everybody was butting heads and that Super Bowl hangover over it was real couple of super chats coming in that we'll get to and then because he's seen everything that you can see in this league and he's been a head coach and I just just like the eagles experience as far as their roster a little bit more this Packers team is Uber talented offensively and defensively but they're also very inexperienced I do feel as though that they're experienc in the playoffs last year against Dallas against San Francisco down to the wire in that divisional game could do them wonders but I slightly like Philadelphia and I'll give you my score prediction coming up here in just a bit we've already been able to pick up I think about 100 new be the starting off ball linebackers Dean is an inexperienced NFL player and Zack Bon hasn't played offall linebacker in his career because while with New Orleans he was primarily a pass rusher key to the game number three you can't let Jordan love find a rhythm and from the Midway point of the year to the end of the year he really started to find his Groove and with that he became a very confident quarterback down the stretch in that Wild Card round against the Dallas Cowboys against the 49ers even though he threw a couple of picks the last one was really bad to Dre Greenlaw across the field across the body but he's a young inexperienced quarterback who we saw massive signs of growth from him his last eight starts last year six and two he completed over 70% of his passes 18 touchdowns to were minus 10 in the plus minus Department in turnover differential last year so they need to get off to a faster start in this game and when they do get off to fast starts it bodess well for Philadelphia so you see the numbers here to my right Philadelphia minus 10 in turnover differential in 2023 they just committed way too many self-inflicted wounds and this is also pretty interesting from sharp football analysis the first 12 games in 2022 when the Eagles made it to the Super Bowl and then lost to Kansas City the Eagles trailed in just two games in those first 12 to set the tone for the season and they led by an average at halftime of more than a touchdown 7.8 points and you know how last year we're watching this Eagles team and we're like man they won but that was rough that was real in 2023 the eagles only LED in six of their 12 games and they were losing on average by one point at half that is nearly a ninepoint difference at halftime from 2022 to 2023 and then at international territory in the first NFL game in Brazil ever and the first opening night game on a Friday that the National Football League has had in 50 years it is really really hard to win a game against a legit team when you lose the turnover battle and Philadelphia lost a turnover battle but think about how they started this game with the pressure on this team from what happened last year they had 12 men on the field on defense taquon Barkley slipped on the grass which was an awful surface on his first play as an eagle and on the first play from scrimmage Jaylen Herz on the third play offensively threw late and made an awful decision throwing an interception on that pass intended for Devonte Smith you had a Jaylen Carter personal foul call and then the quarterback in the center had a bad exchange which led to a turnover on the six offensive play now shout out to Vic fangio and this defense which got leaky at moments and they gave up some explosive plays but they helped set the just some overall stats here and then we'll start to get to some individual performances Philadelphia able to put up 410 yards of total offense 5 and a half yards per play Herz 20 at 34 for 266 two touchdowns two picks both of the picks egregious taquan Barkley more on him in a moment able to have one of the best debuts for a professional athlete for a new team in the history of the NFL he runs for more than a 100 yards he has a hattick three touchdowns and the Eagles as a team 38 carries of buck 44 really took him a little while to get that run game going this is the big thing for me they overcome three turnovers to the Packers one to still win this game it goes to show you what they're capable of being and the potential that they have as a football team and time of possession pretty even although it skewed a little bit toward Philadelphia because of that long drive in which they matriculated down the field for Green Bay lot of Splash plays lot of explosive plays the Eagles had some holes on the defensive side but again the Eagles defense kind of won the team the game by foring two early Packers field goals if they give up two touchdowns there which would have happened last year you already know it that game's probably cooked for the Eagles so 414 yards of total offense and Jordan love did get injured late made a couple of good plays of note Josh Jacobs ran Crazy in that team that is no doubt how about saquin Barkley his debut as a Philadelphia Eagle gets going with a bang 24 carries 109 yards two touchdowns on the ground round there was one in which he displayed power there was a touchdown in which he was untouched keep in mind that sequan Barkley his Giants offensive lines the last two years bottom three in run block win rate the Eagles the last two years top three in run block win rate he has never played behind an offensive line like this he has never played with complimentary weapons like this he has never played with a quarterback like this saquan Barkley has plenty of gas left in the tank saquan Barkley can still play he has juice and all offseason I had said I think that sequin can have a Christian mcaffrey impact on this Eagles team 1,500 to 2,000 allpurpose yards he can impact the game as a runner as a pass catcher he's also a very good pass protector and we saw the entire skill set on display for saquan Barkley he ran with power he ran with finesse he ran with explosion he ran with quickness he had getaway speed he bulldozed Defenders he had great vision he had great decisiveness he had great patience this is a very special player and a very special running back it's unfortunate that now at 27 years old he's finally on a team this good because he's been so highly productive with New York but he played on awful teams but to see him in this manner after all of the [ __ ] that he got from Giants fans from leaving that dog [ __ ] organization to come to this one and for him to pop off for a hat trick tonight eat the crow Giants fans can be sour but he is ours now and for the wh Hall Lehigh Valley native to return to Philadelphia and to have a debut like this what a performance and how about the wheel route that he caught the performances here let me get back to my notes because I had some names listed here that I want to get to Jaylen Herz the good the bad the dimes and the picks 20 of 34 278 yards two touchdowns and two picks it was so funny to see that jayen Herz detractors come out on social media and in the comment section here on YouTube when he threw that pick intended for Devonte Smith terrible throw awful read it is never great when you were late to make the read and throw it to the middle area of the field terrible decision awful throw his second pick maybe even worse when you consider the situation and him being a coach's son you know his pops is like Jaylen you just can't do that have an opportunity to get a field goal to make it a five-point game he rolled to his right throws all the way across his body and across the field picked off in the end zone by Jer Alexander those interceptions cannot happen and this came after Jaylen Herz in training camp didn't throw a pick for more than 300 passing attempts now I think that Herz can flush those but it is a little bit concerning because he threw 15 picks last year but the throw to saquon Barkley just gorgeous throw dropped it right in the bucket the 67 yd touchdown pass to AJ Brown great throw as AJ Brown cooked Jer Alexander there were a couple of stick throws that he made which are really good throws linking up with Devonte Smith tight window throws Jaylen Herz is a really good quarterback in this league don't try to tell me otherwise because the highs are really high he's had some lows but he's had many more highs than lows as for his receivers AJ Brown Devonte Smith we saw tonight why the Eagles prioritized paying both players we saw tonight why they're maybe the best wide receiver duo in the National Football they're so well-rounded they complement each other really well with how different they are but they're both just great players AJ Brown five catches a buck 19 the long of 67 those five catches coming on 10 targets that's an average of 23.8 the 67 yard touch down that he had not only did he beat Jer Alexander with the dirty route the pull away speed that he had on that play was wow like good and then Devonte Smith seven catches for 84 yards it felt as though all of those catches came in critical spots whether it be the time in the game the down and the distance or the impact and the importance of the play on some of these money Downs or when the Eagles had a got to have it type of play Devonte Smith came through do want to talk about this defense Zack Bon and ncoe Dean noobi Dean was everywhere nocoe Dean was making plays left and right noobe Dean looked like the best linebacker in college football from when he was at Georgia reading plays diagnosing plays and anticipating plays blowing plays up against the run against the pass his best game is a pro and I know the sample size is small but we can see why ncoe Dean and Zack Bon beat out Devin white they both were tremendous in this game all things considered and this is something great for noobi Dean to build off of and I've always said this about him his lack of size is a thing but he can make up for it with this small art football instincts his feel and just his ability to kind of foresee things before they happen dude was an engineering major at Georgia and you see those smarts on display but for how inexperienced he is as a player in this league because he simply hasn't played a lot to look the way that he did tonight I was so impressed and then Zack Bond Zack Bon while with the New Orleans Saints was a failed third round pick as an edge rusher Vic Fango turns him into an off ball linebacker and him and Kobi Dean are going sideline to sideline making plays up and down the field Zack Bon was really good Vic vanio used him as a Blitzer from time to time Zack Bon had two sacks and we've made the Vic fangio Andrew van GLE type of comparison here on this show because vanio brought the best out of van Kinkle and he was one of the highest graded pass rushers in the game how about the way that he Incorporated and utilized Zack Bond and toobe Dean Zack Bon 15 tackles 11 solo two sacks one tfl two quarterback hits his second sack ended the game and the Eagles got him for nothing they paid him nothing so I love the early returns and the early signs of that as for some of the bad some of the concerns Eagles pass rush just not great they only had the two sacks um they're both belonging to Bon I didn't think they did a great job of generating a consistent pass rush five quarterback kits in this game and then CJ Gardner Johnson missed tackle after tackle the big one obviously leading to the Jaden Reed 70 yard touchdown he has to be better I think I think he will be better because I've seen there's a
