Carlton's win over West Coast so uh Caron supporters would have enjoyed and they would have been a little nervous going into the game everyone was talking about West Coast couldn't understand it myself what do you mean you couldn't understand hang on Caron have taken over a vfl side west coast are playing at home pretty much fully loaded with with their full compliment at a ground they've been reasonably strong out this year what do you mean you couldn't understand it all right well let me go cuz what I'm going to talk about is the curse of talent and how we all get seduced by talent and talent is one part of you know being good at the game and and becoming a good team potentially but it's an individual um aspect that uh isn't as uh prevalent in successful teams as hard work and application and playing your role which is exactly what vosy was able to get his team to do and uh we shouldn't have been surprised because with the absence of talent you focus more on what you need to do together to get that job done and that's exactly what carton were able to do tell takes a squad the whole Squad so yes there was the injury list was substantial in particular in the front half so you've got you know KERO and McKai that were out of the side out of the Midfield you've got cheron ding of of real note and sard off the back you yes Dock's out but he's been out for a while yes Martin was out but he's been injury um afflicted for quite a while I I just think that we get we get seduced so much by Talent now what you know and cerno's talent is undeniable Mai's Talent is undeniable D coning through the rck and yes it does have an impact when you when you miss key elements of your team but Brody Kemp goes forward the role that he played on mcgaven to some extent and then but the role that he had to play for the team the dedication to that role by a player who hasn't played it before and his commitment to doing what he was asked by the coaches for what was needed against that opponent in that moment for this game to to get the result was absolutely 100% laser focused you can't tell me that a kerno or a mai are thinking more about winning the football and going and taking marks rather than defending for instance a Jeremy mcgoverin and preventing him from being an interet player everything's everything you need everything in Balance you need your Gamers that go and Chase what they're capable and fill their boots and if year you know and Patty Crips did that Jacob weering did that so there was talented players who were the probably as good as anyone in the Caper at executing what they're great at they still needed that Kon but they were able to bring in a group of young players role players who got the job done so you can do that for one week Buck you can do that for one week and no one's coming back like you look look at the injury list it it's um it's not accurate with what they're suggesting with the one we hammies that they put on the injury list they're not getting anyone back this week so can you do it to get yourself and to Galvanize a group to go against a really poor side in West Coast and full credit to them for doing that but can you do it for more than one week in a row that that's that's going to be the challenge that is that is the challenge because in the end the other thing is you don't get it's hard to harder to scout a team that is that is especially in the front half that is missing but there was always going to be a grand ball game so Kemp was you know nominally your key forward who's the only and he took a few nice marks as well but then you've still got Williams in that forward line you still had Elijah Holland who's been doing a lot of damage you've got so you don't have foggy who's been the the choice of the small forward but you've still got motlop o and Duran and Duran's played a lot of footy over the last couple of years yeah the young guys that come in beans and Lord and Mah is it more yeah how do you say that yeah so they've still got the young guys that have come through that you know might not be AF already but the the the greater ground swell of of players I mean obviously Walsh and Crips are guns hu's been played a lot of footy pit Net's played a lot of footy akres on a wing is is is a player that can be relied upon significantly Newman there there not as it's not as if they were the cupboard was Bare and everyone thought oh well just because these two big units up front aren't there they haven't you they've kicked a lot of goals they haven't won as many games as they should have with their level of talent cartton so my my point is if you can tip in to this blue CER attitude as a couple of these guys come back and I'm not just talking about this year but as they come back as you need to build a team on that blue color attitude build a team on the role play and when cartton were playing their best it wasn't off the back of their top end Talent at the back end of last year when they made their finals run it was because every single player was absolutely committed to their role for the team and they and and through a shared chemistry they played their best good summary from B on exactly what the blues did in a Perth yesterday and what a game that will be Marvel Stadium against the Saints who were in terrific form as well over the weekend is storming home for the remainder of this season with the pressure off tell us about the Giants Unpacking GWS v Fremantle yeah well and and I I'm nearly going to argue against myself here but the fact that the Giants that game the the Giants Dockers game was a finals it was an epic game finals intensity two legitimate finals um contenders like and legitimate I think look I think not in the at the moment no and and you know they may well miss I think they're playing they're they're playing the type of footy that can win a final or or or finals but they've just they've run into a side on the weekend in the giants that are in my view Cherry R they've been building over the last you know two months they they were actually coughing and spluttering about five or six weeks ago but finding a way to win and they're starting to get some players back that might add a little bit 1% here or there but Adam Kingsley was really happy with his charges after the game and rightfully so so there's the advocation from the opposition coach at the time and and yes when you've just bested a team you're going to you're going to talk them up but Foo are a really well organized and well structured team and they have they they've challenged a lot of teams through the back half of the year in particular but the Giants were were just huge you look at that front half I mean Hogan just continues to go from strength to strength he was the best the best marking key forward in the game in the back half of last year as good as the the other guys were he he see him like watermelons just clunking them he's the cleanest Mark at the moment and he took plenty yeah he took plenty on the weekend cadman's just keep standing up Jones Daniels Toby green I mean that's just a Ford line um you Tom Green through the middle are you suggesting they're your they're your premise ship favorites right now that's what I'm picking up here about 3 weeks ago I thought the L the best of the Lions asked the question the best of the Lions is the best of the likely candidates and I and I still stand by that and we'll we'll get to get to the lines in a moment but when you consider what the Giants were able to do late last year and the Run they came with and the fierce fierce desperation that they showed in defense and I'm I'm just starting to see elements of that creep back in you when Sam Taylor does what he does and throws himself around then Buckley jumps up and then Iden jumps up Ash is not quite where he was last year but he can get there whitfield's a hardened Harden professional who uses the ball extremely well also I just feel Kell's back canelo's back Green's back in for oh look there's plenty there the the N the names are through the roof but once again how do they all come together and they look to me like they're coming together they're going to be very hard to knock over and if they give themselves a double chance they're going to play port adelade in the first week of the finals be that in Sydney or be that in Adelaide and right now you go okay the Giants win that well how good how good are qualifying finals when you said I mean we love all like when you get to the elimination stage is great but quarterfinals when you get doesn't matter if you sneak into fourth like J long look like they're going to be able to do that you sneak into fourth and you you take on a Sydney that are coughing and spluttering in some shape perform up there well you win that game you go into a prelim so it's it's pretty exciting to to see that but yeah I think the Giants are going well just a short word on the Dockers this set sliding doors so you play Pierce off a broken arm just the three weeks he breaks his arm again I reckon he would have been pretty handy on a Jesse Hogan so in a nine-point loss you got a guy that kicked six goals four he would have made a significant difference so you go back and think right were we too you know were we too much in a rush to put him back in or in against a Melbourne side that didn't really have a key forward and we won that by 50 points and then you think okay with Josh Tracy who was flying and he goes and gets injured against Melbourne I reckon I don't reckon they've been too transparent with that it's probably a bit of a PCL in some shape or form they said it was a contact injury well they went wrong it definitely was wants to crack down on transparency of injuries you're suggesting that they may not have well I'm supposing I don't going I'm just doing everyone else is doing which is supposing what about sha Dary who was a last minute withdrawal last week and they said oh touch and go you know another day would have played that's a week he missed again yeah well they're they're significant outs and I think if you sort of yes we've we're looking at sides and lording sides and and and knocking sides down for not having um you know for not being able to handle Personnel losses but freem manal have endured that and they haven't been able to get over the top of the at the moment the third one I want to go to is is the Brisbane's stunning loss lines and we talk about sliding doors like that was just a loss that they couldn't afford to have to be to be 17 points up with four and a half minutes on Jo has a shot 40 m out directly in front well even before that you look at um cam rer in the third quarter from 25 meters straight out in front Zack Bailey from 30 m straight out in front he wish he' have missed that one three years ago so that that that it has that has ramifications like being able to finish but um you know Chris Fagen as always is going to take a positive optimistic view on it and he could see uh the opportunity in it I just love his positive attitude and and in the end you they're going to need that you as he said they've chased it and their form has been great they've they've had a couple of close losses now that that have hurt them and and what they the only thing they've lost is their double chance they'll they'll get only it's pretty big thing yeah it is and and the hang on it's not the and the home final top two home final not not leave not leave the gabber until Grand Final but that's what they've lost yeah we we'll we'll back anounce on whether that's actually going to be impactful or not hang on we'll find out bux you can't suggest that they're going to get the home the finals at the gabber and then coming and playing the Grand Final MCG isn't something to lose well they weren't trying trying to lose it but the facts are how many teams win it from outside the top four not many just the one just the just the 2016 it's a fair big oh yeah huge loss no it is it is and they could be they could become another statistic and that's probably more than likely but the fact is when you're top four you still got to you still got to win three games against some really good opposition to be able to get there and you know that would that would have been up for grabs as well one thing I would say like talk about sliding doors so Jared Barry gets injured late in the first quarter and I'm not sure exactly what what string tightness it was tightness but that that had a significant impact because Nick Doos really got going in the second quarter now Barry wasn't a hard tag but there's no doubt that he was spending some time with him and they probably they had the Isaac Ranken treatment on Nick Doos around bumping him and making it a little bit difficult but it's it's really difficult in at at Round 23 when you're right on the Casper finals you've just lost the top four to look and see okay well let's look for project forward but you look at Brisbane side there there's actually a smattering of of young talent and youth eventually you've got to take the step from where you are to where you want to be and make sure and and take that next couple of steps as they have as they did last year despite missing um out in the uh in the deider but raina's 25 next year Morris will be 20 I really like him Lan's 22 Bailey's 25 Ash will ashro 21 Fletcher 20 mcclugage only 26 stovich 25 Shadow brain who I think can be a player 21 wilart 21 common when he comes back 24 lines are going to be around for a long time there's another Rush coming but you've but you've that that's going to be of no U consolation to any lion supporter when you get close enough and you don't you don't take those last steps my opinion of footballers in general but you look if you can find a Sam Darcy is taking over competitive aerial player in front of the in the front half of the field he is as valuable a commodity as you are ever going to find and Sam Darcy for me is the youngest brightest key forward I I I love Josh tracing the way he's going about it but Sam Dary can rock he can go behind the ball if you need him to he's probably the forward version of a MC Andrew and I just think that you seeing him do what he did yesterday it just struck me as I was watching it that this this kid and he's still a kid and he's still developing he's still growing this kid could be the best player in the competition as soon as next year as soon year so he's if your he's out of contract as far as I can tell at the end of next year if he's going to be the best player in the game yep what what's what are the dogs going to have to pay him and I know that there's the there's the name and the Loyalty but in the end it is still a business and the offers that will come for him are going to be upwards of one and a half million aren they if you were building a team from scratch he's number one player you take I reckon yeah when there's always competition but you take him over Harley Reid well that's the and that's the point so if you had I'm gonna throw five players up Sam Darcy MC Andrews Harley Reed uh Tom Ding and Dary Jones so let's let's mix it up there so you've got a a marking forward tall marking forward a marking intercept defender in Mac Andrews you've got a a goal kicking sort of bull midfielder in Harley Reed you got Tom conone who's the you know the probably the most combative Ruckman and aerial Force as a young player and you got Dary Jones who to me is Taz rang you this is the if tazzy rang you this is what we're discussing the break tazzy rang you said Buck you're the coach of tazzy or a new team you have The Pick of five players from any club that you can start your team with they're the five well the five that I've just thrown up but but I've chosen them in so much as different roles but I would out of those I would go Sam Darcy one I would go Mack Andrews second I I reckon i' and I reckon I put Reed I put Reed third and then and then sort of you'd fight it out but for the rck and the high forward I think High forward is an increasingly important role but to if you can find a marking player in front of the ball that is that is a considerable piece of a puzzle to put in in place and he needs to be a competitor and Sam Dy seems to me like he's he's a he's a nice kid he's he's angry but he's but he's got the right fire and competitiveness I think he's got really good balance and you talk about what the dogs are going to do obviously knowing his mom and dad he's he's been brought up the right way he's a really good person he's got um yeah really humble um the way they go about it he's really well balanced so that will be a part of that's also the character pieces is is going to play into you long-term arrangements and long-term deals as well what a bonus for the dogs to get to get yugul Hagen and him like unbelievable if they if they cannot win a Premiership with those two again something's gone something's gone really wrong at the dogs if that doesn't happen uh tell us about Melbourne yeah Do players have too much power? well it's the the point I want to make is around is a little bit around trades and you know there's talk around Christian petaka and there's got to bit this I know that um Tom's got something for us at 8:30 around the Peta developments and where they smoke there's fire it sounds like you know that he would move if he could he's still got what four or five years on his deal and it just begs a question to me about what are they worth and how is the control that a player has in terms of movement too great and the clubs not have enough I know you wrote about this on Thursday the the Melbourne CEO um Gary per was asked about uh this this talk around Christian Peta and any trade possibilities we shouldn't be surprised that players want to maximize their opportunities in the game whilst they're in it so Christian Paka has accepted and so let's put Dan Houston or even Dan riol like there's three to to name Bol a couple Shay Bolton who who accept long-term deals on great money for their own job security which you know it's it's pretty hard to say no to because at the time when you sign a contract when you when you go and put it on the dotted line there's no doubt about your commitment to that group of players to that club to that organization and the direction that they're going that could change in two or three years you've spoken about long-term contracts so if you sign a six or a seven or an eight or Clayton Oliver you're a nine or a 10 you you you like you get two or three years down and things could shift things could change you can change your mind but apparently the club can't that doesn't make it makes no sense to me none so I reckon once you sign once you've signed for a certain length and over certain amount whatever that is I think the AFL need to mandate that the clubs have more control on player trades so not just Christian petria putting you know saying yeah know I want to I might want to explore going somewhere else even though I've got five years to run a club should be able to go well you've got four or five years to run but things have changed and we're they going to send you there I I just think that there needs to be some more balance that's introduced 100% it is it is FAL that the amount of players Tom Baris for example goes I got three years left I was happy to sign this contract a year or so ago but now I want out and I want to go and join the sexy Hawks because it's not going to be great at West Coast for the next three or four years I'm out but West Coast then can't go they've got to play I don't know whoever it is under contract um flying Ry and there's another club that wants to pick up the contract but we can't trade him cuz he's he's under contract and Luke beverage hit on a great point on Friday about the power that player agents have now a player agent may say you've got a a player at your Club under our stable as a Management Group under contract he wants out if you do not trade him out then you won't be in the running for our other clients that are looking to move and come to your club that this is the power that the agents have and they have too much power clubs have none players and their agents have all of it and we're in a mess that is um which is affecting clubs and the equalization of the competition yeah and we do see yeah there's no doubt that agents are running around causing chaos absolute chaos and Carnage at the moment and and and I I would suggest and I was a little naive to this when I was even when as was a senior coach like you're naive to who actually the the movers and shakers in the industry and it is it is the agents and and the the relationship between agents and list managers is is crucial to for a club's chances of success and agents and media look at look at Jerry Maguire like that that movie showing me the money that's pretty much how it gets that's there's there are Jerry Maguire everywhere but we don't but and we sort of got a glimpse into it a little bit with with um the doco that came out but but in the end which was called show with the money there you go but there there is we can't ignore it this this is a commercial interest as much as it's a game that we play since kids and we want to be on the MCG and winning um your chance to playing grandf finals and win premierships and you even if you Bar for a side your whole your whole lifetime you want to play for them that's great but then when you get there the brass TXS are that you need to if that's only the isolated few that get to live out their dream that they have when they're 10-year old it's a hard-nosed professional um exploit that we're a part of and you've got to make the most of it whilst you're there it's and and the agents are the ones that are you know profiting but also manipulating as you suggested I've been aware with us and that was this was after the fact when I mean every Club every Club has a and we clearly didn't do it that well we got cornered into a position where we needed to and there we go we we needed to make decisions and reduce cap so he needed to force players out but by forcing them out we got like we got whacked massive unders for what the value of that player was which was brought about because all of the powers with the player and it was and there poor results um all round but moving moving money around the cap imagine what it's like for a play manager okay we'll help we'll help shift this you know maybe you know move a couple hundred forward forward or move a couple hundred back um and and and manipulate your money so that you can meet the requirements for this given season but for us to do that for us to go and ask our player to do that we want this Fringe player over here to sign for an extra for an extra year that is a real life example it's from so that the Fringe player managed by the same Management Group that you're asking to to move some money back or might you might be 50 on and or you might be haggling remember if you're haggling over an extra year or you're haggling over 50 Grand here or there can you imagine how much power the manager has he goes well like you're asking you you scratch my back I'll scratch yours type thing that's that's that has well so what Bev was just talking about that happens and it just doesn't it doesn't happen once a year it doesn't happen with one or two clubs it happens with 18 clubs every year all the time so but this is this is under the and it's you know the AFL sort of somewhat aware of it and that's why the accreditation of Agents was so important I think that that would only be 10 or 15 years old the accreditation of agents and the the way that they conduct themselves and that cohort of the of the economy of the sport of the industry is is crucial and important and players need them absolutely players need them to get the best uh their best deal and to make the most of their professional Pursuits but they are and a good relationship ship for the clubs is important to have with those managers as well throw throwback to a 2008 Showdown I reckon it was with Dan Houston's hit on Izak Rankine that brutality with barn picket and and Rett biglins and others clearly not acceptable in today's game so Dan Houston has been sent directly to the tribunal careless conduct severe impact High contact yeah the high contact just had a few texts about that high contact is because of the action because there was head contact whether it was on the ground it's not necessarily shoulder to Chin or shoulder to head that's the high contact UM the bar is reached by the contact on the ground because it was part of the action or part of the um The Clash so just just just you gut right or wrong take out the The Matrix and if you if you were just asked to decide how much how many weeks does that action deserve what comes to mind yeah four or five yeah so and and I and you that this time of year like it's and it is so unlike Dan Hugh he's a he's a tough physical player I think he plays the game in great spirit it's just so it's that that's a split-second decision that he's made to bump instead of tackle to go and close that distance in the last two or three steps then wait half a second until Ranken gets it and then cut him in half with a tackle it it yeah it would want it's one that he would definitely want to have back um but that's that was a throwback like that's a 15 you know that's that's B and picket you played a lot of footy with him that's a bar and picket type bump because he connected so well and he you you still need to middle you still need to Middle the guy like he's he was able to Bodyline and hit Ranken right down the middle which you know to get that center of gravity um you have to you have to really concentrate on what you're doing so Split Second but yeah that's he's not going to get all not going to see him again this year
