save Packers preview Packers preseason game at Denver tonight the Packers and Broncos haven't played each other a lot over the years the last time Green Bay won a game in Denver was 2007 when Brett Favre had one of the most efficient days of his Hall of Fame career here's Brian posic the Packers were 5-1 the Broncos 3 and3 when the two teams squared off at Mile High Stadium on October 29th 2007 Jake Cutler was in his second season at quarterback for Denver in his 5-yard TD pass to Tony Sheffer put the Broncos on Top early but on the first play of Green Bay's ensuing Drive Brett Favre came laflor and first off Matt we came out here a little bit early uh had a practice with the Broncos there's a lot that goes into a trip like this uh in the preseason what are some of the objectives you have for this trip well I think first and foremost you're trying to get good work in in in regards to the practice then go out there and compete your butt off in a game um which I thought the practice uh there were some good things but a lot of things that we need to clean up so I think it was a good wakeup call for our team understanding that you have to go out and compete and give your best effort every time you you go on the field and um because you're either getting better getting worse you're never staying the same and um but I think it's also a good opportunity for our guys to come together outside of football we had some we had a team dinner at at Shanahan Steakhouse and then uh had a team activity at Top Golf and it's just there's it is a long time here um feels like we've been here forever but um there there's a lot of opportunities for these guys to get to get together outside of ball a lot of intangibles involved in a trip like this trying to build something called chemistry that is a part of every successful team but doesn't always happen every year with every team talk about a little bit about that man what's your thought about that I mean how does that evolve I know you try to give it an opportunity to evolve but it has to happen from within the team doesn't it yeah I think it's best when it's organic and um you know the so the social cohesion is a part of it you know connected teams can be powerful teams uh and a lot there's a lot of talented teams out there that aren't connected and they're not going to be as good as they should be so that's that's just a part of it at the end of the day you still got to be um productive in in regards to what your product that you're put on on the field and um so our guys are still we're still a working progress I would say but I I think there's some benefits to coming out here and spending 4 days and as far as the practice goes did you get some of what you wanted out of it you mentioned earlier you weren't quite happy with all aspects of it but just to get another team just to go against another team in a practice situation with your ones um that had to be beneficial yeah it was beneficial I think there's a lot of good learning lessons along the way in terms of you got to stay focused on you and you can't worry about what your opponent is doing or not doing and um sometimes I think I I think we lacked the focus to be honest with you in terms of uh we were more worried about just maybe how they were practicing versus how we were going about our business absolutely Lessons Learned coming up evening and welcome to empower Field at Mile High in Denver Colorado tonight the Green Bay Packers play their second preseason game of the summer as they take on the Denver Broncos hi everybody Wayne lvy along with Larry McCarron our entire game day crew on hand here in the mile high city the Packers last year 9 and8 the Broncos were 8 and N but Denver had a five-game mid-season winning streak it started with a 19- 17 victory over the Packers here at Mile High but the Broncos have not had a winning season since 2016 and head coach Shawn pyton in his second season with the Broncos determined to get a turnaround there the Broncos last week scored a 3420 preseason victory at Indianapolis the Packers won at Cleveland 23-10 this is the 11th time these two teams have faced each other in the preseason the Packers have won only three of the previous 10 this is the first pre-season meeting between the Packers and Broncos since the 2017 get together also here in Denver with a three-game preseason schedule implemented in 2021 the Packers will alternate between hosting one and two preseason games each year so this year the Packers started with two Road games and they'll close out at home next Saturday afternoon against the Baltimore Ravens the match up with the Ravens designated as the Packers give back game and will recognize Wisconsin literacy as the nonprofit honor well these two clubs got together on the practice field on Friday afternoon down in Centennial Colorado was 95° humidity was only about 177% but heat is heat and it was hot down there and the Broncos probably got a by most observers accounts got a little bit better of it than did the Packers but I can tell you this based on the coaches we've talked to uh they've got a little something to coach their young team on off of that practice against the Broncos tonight Denver on their schedule will play their starters in their rookie quarterback first round draft choice 12th overall selection in the draft B Knicks gets the start at quarterback folks I got to tell you and most people around the league are starting to realize this there was no better draft to scheme fit than b Knicks to Shawn pyton and the Frontline players cuz normally pre-season backups are playing against backups but tonight they get to measure themselves against the Broncos stter starters and as you mentioned not a bad football team 8- n last year not a bad football team a team that's it's got its arrow pointing up with the addition of Bo Knicks and Sean pyton and they finally separated themselves from Russell Wilson and all that's history and everything's about the future here so it's a great test for the young Green Bay Packers players yeah no question about it and you know and again this game kind of shows you that in the regular season each side has the exact same Target win the football game any way you can in the preseason you're often at different periods you know for example Denver in this game they're going to play their starters Bon Knicks get a good look at what they can do the Packers felt their starters got a lot of place certainly their defense said what did Jeff Halley tell us this morning he said wow we faced like 90 plays in that practice 70 of them with passes so the Packers veterans got their work uh in that practice and now they'll give their young people maybe next week we'll see what happens with the Baltimore Ravens coming to town for a joint practice on Thursday but at any rate different agendas in the preseason when you get to the regular season everybody's got one agenda win the game but the preseason very different agendas no and as you mentioned it's really not about winning and losing it's about evaluating talent particularly your young talent and as I mentioned a great opportunity for the Green Bay Packers to do so tonight and you know the quarterbacks that are going to be playing here tonight for the Packers Sean Clifford uh getting the start and then Michael for a while to start moving it to get more opportunities and to get that lather going to get some kind of Rhythm I don't know I just look at the running stats I think they're kind of miserable and I think that's a factor in our score at this point and remember 11 of those yards that was a scramble by Sean a third down it's the early Downs when you get behind the chains and you're not able to run the football effectively now again Denver had its first string defense in there I get that but again this is an opportunity hey that coaching staff over there cross the way in Green Bay they're
