Eddie Howe & Sean Longstaff discusses winning vs. Nottingham Forest | Post-Match Reactions

yeah you just brought back memories yet have a really painful exit last year um painful end to the game for us but uh yeah God there's so much to look back on from that game we started unbelievably well and yet great feeling early goal settled us down you'd hope we could kick on from there we didn't tough tough game we knew it was going to be difficult um it was a great atmosphere created by not Forest today and um they made changes to their team changes to their shape which was difficult to predict don't think we got to grips with that fully um until the second half and then I thought for the last half an hour we totally dominated the game it looked like the team we want to be the team you named did that show how much this competition means to you yeah I hope so I mean I've said all along that we're determined to try and do well now to do well you have to name good teams we are aware of course on the game on Sunday and we had to protect a couple of players I mean I wanted to protect Bruno a bit more than I was able to Joe picks up an injury I mean you was terrible luck for Joe I don't know how bad it is but um it was enough to take him off the pitch that was a huge blow for us that actually knocked our Rhythm I think um so yeah these things are always meant to test us but we've got through and that's the main thing what's the nature of George injury he said he felt a little bit of a pain in his thigh when he hit the ground I think he thought it was cramp initially carried on but it wasn't to be before that though he had given you the lead and was that just a reminder of what a good player he is what he does bring to the team that's why devastating for us because he is a top player he showed that against Bournemouth he came on and ejected energy and pace into our Midfield today he scored a goal in the time that he's on um I'm just devastated for him if it's another injury that does keep him out because he's worked so hard to get fit and you just want to see him have a run of games see him play with confidence and just enjoy his football again we've tried to do everything right nurseing back not chucking back into the team so it'll be a huge blow if he's out sandalo back in the team after 10 months how did you think he did it after such a long time out yeah I thought there was some really good bits from Sandro um probably more individual than team related because the team we we didn't really get to grips of it but there were moments there was a couple of really good passages of play that he was involved in that um you can see his individual technical qualities coming out so uh I'm just pleased to see him back on the pitch and he loved every second of that yeah he spoke in the week about how much the fan support meant to him how much your support meant to him the scenes at the end there how how special were they for the whole team but for Sandra in particular yeah I mean it's just an unbelievable reaction from a group of supporters that um always back the players and for me that's so important that's what we need difficult times good times I mean Sandro's obviously individually had a really difficult time but you could see the support flooding the emotion flooding from Sandro and and the supporters it was a great moment really and great to see so many Italian flags in the crowd for him and I'm sure that would have meant a great deal to him and his family and to get through to get that win on penalties what does that do now for the team in terms of just keeping momentum going it keeps it a positive start for us um four points out of two in the in the Premier League's good getting through to the cup is very good uh that was our aim but we know we're not hitting the levels consistently I think within the games there's been some really good bits of the last part of the Bournemouth game the last half an hour today um obviously 60 minutes with 10 men against Southampton but we haven't put it together for 90 minutes yet so hopefully we build up to that still a feeling that it's going to click sooner rather than later it's got to you know it's got to with the quality of players that we have um I'm sure it will it's just every season is different and every challenge is different no one makes it easy for you so um we never thought anything was going to be easy we've got to go and earn everything so uh will you know battle battle hard and try and come back better next week and we're just awaiting the draw for the next round but surely after the draws you've had over the last few months you do have favorable one I mean is there is there such a thing as a favorable one though so any any draw you get is is tough but I think we'd to play in front of our own supporters I think we've had a lot of away draws in in every cup competition so it' be great to play at St James feel stepping up to take that penalty and how do you feel now knowing that it's put you into the next round yeah really happy obviously um he was a big goalie and so took up a lot of the net but I think it was made easier probably um by their two l s of missing their last two penalties and um there's a bit less pressure on it knowing if you miss there's still going to be penalties after you so it was a bit of a free hit and um yeah just want to get the job done and look late winning something you practice a fair bit in training or not uh no not really I just end up watching trips Bruno and Alex like and take them in training so um yeah just happy to happy to put in there um I think the team was practicing yesterday but the ones from who played Sunday were on recovery swe we just watching the other Lads take their penalties so didn't get a practice but sometimes if you practice and miss you probably get anyone ahead a bit so um no just like I said happy it went in and um yeah just happy be in the next round giving you an away to AFC wimon what's your initial reaction to that one yeah it'll be tough um I in ground I've never played that so um yeah so of want to take off The Bucket List um with this the draws of had especially last year I think it's nice to not have a a top side with no disrespect the wi than the not man city or man united or Chelsea so um for us it's a game that can go on attack and um yeah one way we'll obviously be looking to get through and go as far as we can the competition tonight felt like a proper cup ties well didn't they what what did you think of the game before the penalties yeah I thought it was a good game um high level game Obviously good to sort of get Sandro in them games early on I think with the intensity and obviously it's a Premier League fixture really with the players on the pitch and um so good for him I thought in spells were good and it's probably been a bit like the first three games where it's been a bit hit and miss at times but um that's what you've got a squad for and um obviously Sly Joe will off but obviously bring Bruno on and he's going to help the team and um yeah obviously an came on done really well and sort of Tino so um yeah really good sort of showing from the whole Squad and sometimes it's not going to be the prettiest of games but it's just well getting through and um we've done that when we got the final that year so yeah hopefully it's the same and the team finished the game strongly as well I mean it was important to do that you did the same at Bournemouth on Sunday as well it's it's a nice trait to have I guess yeah it is I think that's one of the Hallmarks of our team is our sort of fitness and um yeah being able to go to the very end and get on top of teams towards the end the games and maybe other teams are tiring a sort of a chance to push on and um obviously we didn't score the goal in the last 30 minutes but I thought we sort of got on top then and um created some good chances and um yeah like I said it's a it's a squad that's really strong I feel as all without European football there's a few less games so the cup games become more important because everyone wants to play and ultimately wants to play in the the Premier League so um yeah I think you see that with Lads coming off the bench trying to make a statement and they want to be in the team so for us um yeah positive ni things to work on like always but um in the end a good night to go through and for you is it fair to say that you're playing without pain hopefully for the first time in quite a long time though yeah definitely I think um sort of March last year was um yeah sort of got open and sort I think it came a bit of a ahead and sort of said I sort of need to get sorted out and um the club let us do it and yeah feel much much better had a really good summer um sort of just I run with Jacob and B A Lot in the summer and from so this summer compared to last with boring yeah I was I felt a lot lot better and I think hopefully performances will show that I feel like start of the Season pretty well and um yeah just looking to kick that kick that on and carry it on and um be paying free and putting in good performances and in terms of the results there I mean how how much of a boost does that result give you because I suppose it's one of those games where you don't win it can go a certain way you do win and and it goes the way you want yeah 100% I think it just keeps the momentum going obviously we've had three games two wins and a a draw so Sunday is important if can win that I think we can say it's been a really positive first block of games um and yeah like I said it's always sometimes in the cups it's not going to be the prettiest but it's about getting through and getting into the next round and you'll probably see well you'll see that on the trip home it'll be a lot louder and um people laughing and joking and um yeah it's always a better change room to be
