yeah I was just first of all very disappointed obviously in the outcome of that game I think you know for three and a half quarters our guys played outstanding um did some really good things you know got had a was a 20 point point lead I think at some point there late in the third quarter um and then didn't didn't obviously didn't play well did not finish um and it it really it really was all three phases uh you know you can pinpoint some things you know right before half um nice drive we get down we got a knock down to field goal you know we missed a 20 20 some yard field goal we got to knock that down then they go down um thought they thought the first half was over they put one second back on the clock and they knocked theirs down that's a Sixpoint swing right before half obviously disappointing um you know in the fourth quarter uh they hit a couple big plays they got isolated their running back on one of our linebackers and hit a pass play that that went to the house um you know obviously don't want to put our kids in those type of situations um and and then offensively you know we we gave up a sack and a pressure there the last two drives um you know potentially going forward on the fourth and three there thought okay let's pin him back um and make them have to drive the drive most of the field to try to kick a field goal um it was everything was going inord to plan until the fourth and four and then they they called a penalty uh on one of our D linemen saying that he was um you know acting like he was calling a Cadence or something you know whatever they call that um and you can't hear a d linan because our stadium was extremely Extremely Loud on that fourth and four I mean you can't hear anything and as I don't even know what the time was probably minute and a half um on Fourth and four and they want to call that and bail them out and give them a first down and then you know and then they get down and able to kick a field goal um so there was a couple things like that that happened that was very disappointing we get a holding call in the first half when we hit a completion there inside the 10 they called holding uh by the same guy that called this this this penalty um you know so very disappointed u in some of those calls there to say the least and uh because they're affect they affect the games you know and and you guys are our guys are making plays out there and then all of a sudden we get bailed off they get bailed off the hook so um then having said that you know I mean they they did enough to win the game I think offensively you know we had the ball shoot 36 and a half minutes um trying to keep their offense off the field thought we did a good job with that third down conversions we were pretty solid for the most part throughout the game um you know I thought Sor we handle their pressure well if you watch most I mean they they pressured a lot today I mean most of the game we we got rid of the football most of the time except there toward the end of the game um thought Conor ran his butt off today um you know again that's back toback years he's really ran hard against against pits defense which is really good and I thought thought Fletch punted the ball good today again had another another another great day so um you know very disappointed in this but but very in upset as well and you know I told our guys in the locker room you know learn from this but but but we can't make this another negative tomorrow when we get ready for Miami this week did you get explanation on coron's helmet coming off on that play no they didn't I didn't hear anything on that didn't hear anything what they said you had a second and one take Cory off the field put Evan in loses two yards and then you throw what was the motivation behind that kind of taking out your Bell cow in that situation could get a first yeah well I mean I think it was an RPO right there so it could have been a run or pass on that particular play um and for the most part he was really good SW really good at that and um you know there in the fourth qu we missed we missed two of those that you know whatever decision we made should have made the other one but you know as the course of a game you got you got to make the right decisions you know but um but yeah obviously Cory you know he's a bell cyle we got to continue to get him the ball and and let him go to work and he because he because he did he played a great game he broke a lot of tackles today and had some big long runs for the second week the offensive numbers in the first half and the second half were were different was that by Design on your we try what they're doing yeah we're trying to get some plays I mean they made some adjustments in the second half as I mentioned earlier the couple of pressures that they brought they got to us there in the last two drives um and you know they were playing a different coverage behind which was different what they done all day you know and and but we didn't have the right protections um and really in both of those third downs and that that's on us um not that's not our players we got to do a better job with getting in the right Protections in order to give our give our quarterback time to make the throw because we got guys there we just didn't have time all off season and leading into the season whether it's your staff the players that talked about protect the n protect home field when you go up against a rival they come in here and they call it an upset against you guys how do you flip that page as quickly as you need to yeah we have to you know yeah I mean we played played a really good game up to the last you know 10 minutes eight minutes um and they their kickers really good he knocked all all his field goals down today and and they were they were solid um and you know but we have to learn from the things that we didn't do well I mean it's you know there was a few plays out there as I mentioned earlier that that probably ended up costing us the game and um you know we we got to learn how not to make those mistakes and get better with them and um you know get and get get the win get over the top we got to learn how to finish these games um you can't let this game continue to affect us I don't this group right here I mean they were great in the locker room right there you know um you know with our leadership in this team um they're doing the right things um we'll we'll continue to come together and and and come out and play much better next week you mentioned the officiating but beyond that the details whether it be missing a field goal or penalties going down the stretch how do you clean those up in time for Miami well we just got knocked down the field goals I mean that was that was basically an extra point you know but and he knocked down what a 50 some yard which was a great operation and it's not always on the kicker like that the the short field goal you know the snap was was a little bit off and the hole was off and the laces were right where he was kicking I mean so it's not just the kicker I don't not not throwing him under the bus there's a total operation there when you got snap hold and kick um but we got to clean that up cuz we've missed two you know in in the first two games and um you know and then the penalties I mean that's obviously we don't want any penalties I mean I think we're playing pretty solid with the penalty uh with the penalty in the penalty game um but but that was obviously a costy one at Fourth and four um you know again that that's a huge moment to be calling that that particular penalty in my opinion I know yeah I mean it's you know it is a good rivalry were the two teams are not too far away and they used to you know used to play every year and it is a great rivalry I mean there's two evenly matched teams I thought last year and this year um you know we recruited a lot of the same players um you know it's you know one they're in the ACC we're in the Big 12 so there's just a lot of rivalry back and forth with that and I think it's a fun game our our guys our fans I think our players they they they get up for this game it's it's a fun atmosphere either there or here um you know so you know it's one of these these games that you know I think it you remember back to some of the past history games uh of the game so um but you know we're moving forward we're in a new league now now and you know moving on to the Big 12 it kind of seemed like Desmond Reed was basically doing whatever he wanted in the run and pass game how do you scheme around such a Twitchy guy like that and why weren't you guys able to make the necessary adjustments to stop him yeah I mean he's he's he's a good player I mean he he's he's uh he's he's low to the ground he's got great center of gravity um he he'll make you miss but he also has long speed I mean that's the thing that's what makes him special is the fact that he sometimes when you get some low Center gravity guys they're quick right here but they don't have the long speed he's got both and and he's got good hands too um you know he's you know had 150 yards and right there with Cory with 149 uh you know the difference was him was really the long cut he had a touchdown catch the 56 yard touchdown that to me was the big difference in the game I thought I thought uh for for the way he played because I thought we you know we tackled him well and and tried to hem him up which you know you can give up some yards I don't we don't mind giving up yards just holding him to um field goals you know which I think we did a great job there until the fourth quarter Dante obviously yeah Dante man just just first of all just a first class individual I mean he is a great person uh with a big old heart um does things right he cares about people um he's the kind of you know he's the kind of person and player that barette fans love because he does things that way um is the kind of kind of person that we want to have on WE a bunch of Dante corleon on our team just because the way he handles himself um but having him out there was outstanding you know just for our players and for him too and his psyche um he's worked really hard to get to this point in his career and to be able to have him to go out and play today was awesome um you obviously go back and look and see how he play but certainly he made some an impact you know and and was getting some pressure tackled a running back several times in the back field so um man we love Dante and love having him out there just from I know you have to still go back and watch the tape but still speaking on Dante did you notice how Pit's offense was different than Maybe I guess tsin approached you guys because Dante was on the field you know I don't know if they they really changed a whole lot I think they they pretty much ran do what they do you know with some inside Zone stuff some counter um it's going fast and it's trying to throw the ball out and spread it out um you know I think they still continue to try to do that I thought I thought really um you know for three quarters we kept the ball away from really really good and kept them off the field um and and we didn't do that in the fourth quarter offensively that was the issue you know we again we could we got off the the third downs we did we were doing good on third Downs until that fourth quarter that was a big part of the game to to stay in there um you know they are they're talented offense to be able to go fast they completely different than what they have been in the last few years you had another roughing the passer penalty that led to another pit touchdown what can you do to prevent that besides just telling them to not yeah I mean our guys are rushing the guy hard you know he's outside the pocket they're going to hit him you know I I thought again I thought it was a questionable call I thought he's letting the ball go we push him in the chest I mean he calls targeting obviously they go back and look it wasn't targeting but he still kept the the roughing penalty on I mean you know you know obviously you know they want you to stay off the quarterbacks but the guy you guys saw him he ran around all all day today and he bought a lot of time what do we I mean so he's out of the pocket again so we're trying to go get him to throw the football he does throw it we push him right here and we get called roughing you know I you know I it's a fine line there we're got our kids are going to play hard hopefully we won't have any more of those but we're going to play hard and we got to get the ball you know out of his hands M had a big interception in the Red Zone and in the second half he didn't see many snaps was there anything like injury wise um what that decision he got dinged up and could not come back in and uh not sure the injury I just know they said he was out and could not come back in I think it happened right before halftime so he didn't play in the second half um but you know he again he was out cheering his guys on he couldn't play but he's on the sideline he's trying to pump them up cheer him on help coach I mean you know says a lot about him and the rest of our guys that that tried to you know stay in the game and and and really pump you know pump the guys up they that when they wasn't playing any questions for Coach thank you all right thanks guys e question Bron Brendan second half was was a little bit of a struggle today was there anything to that they did they change their coverages anything that caused it it l like you were maybe you know sailing it a little bit high in the second half uh yeah I just got under a couple of them that throws that I know I can make um like to have a couple of those plays back but you know they started bringing some pressure did a good job on defense mixing some stuff up so uh we just got to find a way to be better really aggressive play calling in that second half is that what you want to do do you want to attack attack attack or do you know that there's times that it's necessary to run the ball heavily to try to just take advantage um at the end of the day you know obviously we were moving the ball on them through the air and on the ground so I feel confident in whatever coach s wants to call so if he wants to call a pass and more than willing to throw it but really just you know just trust in his play calling and you know I think he did a great job today as a leader on this team one thing that the entire team talked about coming into the season is protect the net win at home when you're not able to do that against a team that's a Ral how do you help the guys get ready for Miami next week yeah it's upsetting but it's football you know um losses are going to come you got to find a way to bounce back and uh we got a game against Miami another rival uh next week and we got to go to their place and take one from them so uh just use it as fuel and uh bounce back FR him on third down in the first half you guys carved him up pretty easily but on in the second half it kind of changed what were they doing differently on that down it seemed like it kind of made you guys struggle a little bit more uh yeah you know like like I just said a second ago it's just it's tough sometimes you never know uh you Tred to undust the defense as much as possible I feel like they did a good job of disguising some stuff and like I said I would like to have a couple throws back but overall you know props to them for for playing good defense in the second half and making some adjustments and then you know we got to figure some stuff out I got to definitely figure some stuff out when you're up 27 to6 how difficult is it to to not get comfortable because it can be very easy to to shift down yeah absolutely um you you try your best not to to shift into that mode and you you want to tell yourself let's go let's go put one more on them and let's put the game away but uh we weren't able to do that today and you know we got to find a way going forward to to be able to do that what kind of player are you after games like this obviously a brutal loss or you bury the tape or you studyed even harder how do you yourself kind of move on from this game um you know that's a that's a good question because uh I like to think that that I'm going to study the same regardless um just obviously coach myself you know a little harder this week around uh obviously didn't get the result that we wanted as a team but uh just find a way to improv improve in what I did today and the mistakes that I made that could have changed the outcome of this game so really just correct those and you know find a way to not make the same ones going forward you weren here um you know the the group of guys that we have in the locker room I don't think that will happen um and uh you know I'm just confident going forward you know like I said just a second ago it's football mistakes are going to happen losses are going to happen you got to find a way to bounce back and I think this group is going to do a good job of it you got the ball to uh Mae and Johnson today which their first reception but uh Royer was an emphasis you you mentioned that coach mentioned that what did they do to keep him from getting the ball because three catches it looked like it was a day he could go off yeah um really just Tred to do a good job of getting hands on him at the line of scrimmage uh just not let him get going and and rightfully so he's a great player so do anything he can to contain him he still got himself a nice touchdown and you know helped us out today but uh even uh whenever people are trying to take them away you either got to get other guys involved or you know still find ways to to get The Playmakers the ball so uh I think we did a good job of that today uh still had a decent game obviously getting 50 yards in a touchdown is still pretty good so um just you know find ways to improve off of off of this film and and go forward knowing that people are probably going to double him questions for Bron thank you thank you e you're a you're new but you're you're a bearcat how does this hurt because it hurts a lot of people that watched um you know something like this is very painful um just just going into a week you know preparing putting so much into it um coaches players everyone people playing their hearts out um to come up short and um especially like that you know that it really hurts coming up short at home which was so often all offseason protect the nip take care of home field how do you flip the page forward getting ready for Miami um you know the one thing I will say about this team um you know going in the locker room um for me it was it was a big test you know I want to see kind of where the guys were where the heads at um also as a leader you know picking guys up but you know I would say honestly um it was um a lot of positive encouragement you know guys stepping up guys leading guys you know saying we're good you know keep your heads up um you know that's hard to do again going back to you know how it ended you know with them coming back you know and and with the pain and stuff like that you know a lot of emotion sometimes come up but you know I think our team did a great job of just picking each other up and um having each other's back was there a specific player or message that really stood out when you said there was all that positivity if so who was it from and what was it um I'll just say collectively uh from the top down you know U coach sack came in um different guys spoke you know DC's OC's spoke um just everyone just having each other's back um even young guys you know just you know just a real positive message and I feel like again in a time like this when there's so much um emotion you know that's very important pit goes 22 unanswered points to take the lead when you're on defense and that just continues happening you're not you're not getting support from the offense are you guys just pushing or are you playing maybe too hard focusing too hard like what was going on to allow them to score so much um you know first of I would say give credit to pit you know you know they had a great scheme you know in the second half um and defensively you know we we just want to do our jobs you know no matter the situations matter if we're up if we're down if it's a tide you know our job is to go out there and make stops you know our offense did a great job um um and in all three phases offense defense especi team there's always room for improvement but you know specifically defense you know regardless of the situation we want to go out and do our job and um we just came a little short today does a big game they obiously 234 yard on the for the adjustments that you saw from them that allow um again you know I I feel like you know they had a great scheme um in the second half um just all together you know not just him but you know just the the entire um pit team you know they came out in the second half with a chip on their shoulder and um you can tell they um believed in theirself they took the momentum and they ran with it and know that's something that you know as a team we have to do like as soon as they get the momentum we have to you know do our best to stop that and and flip it you know with this game of football is momentum momentum is huge and um I feel like that's something that they ran with and they did a good job with that thank you apprciate it Gavin you were here after the Miami loss and how the rest of the season went Brennan says that with these guys in this locker room he's confident that it won't happen like that why are you confident that this is the group that's able to turn it around and continue to have great season I mean right after the game there was so much positivity up there already um even after a hard loss like that um and I think myself and a lot of guys have have taken pride in and not allowing what happened last year in our program and the you know the poutin and and whatnot to happen anymore um and I think that I don't think it will happen anymore what's been the difference in the first half offense and second half offense last two weeks I honestly I mean maybe we got a little complacent um as a whole um and we really we're still as an offensive line wise I mean I I don't change anything I do and I know the guys beside me don't change anything they do and the quarterback and same M Cory whoever's running the ball um it just hasn't maybe maybe we got a little too complacent we we won't let that happen anymore how important is to bounce back with next week because you have a home game against Houston after that and you would like to see what you saw today fanwise I mean next week's a big rivalry game for us and um I think a lot of us older guys and the guys that have been here and have played Miami before last season even um are taking a lot of pride in in in bringing that Bell back to Cincinnati um so that's a big game on us we're not worried about Houston at all we're worried about Miami um and they had a byee and and I'm sure they're going to I'm sure they all watch the game today they're going to try and throw something at us that we haven't seen um but we'll be we'll be prepared for it you're obviously someone who would like to run the ball a lot it's kind of how you make your money um when UC gets so pass happy in the second half and situations where they can kind of take control of the game on the ground without Cory was running what's your reaction to that are you someone who saying you know let's just pound the rock or are you fully trusting in what coach saterfield and what Brennan can do I fully trust in the coaches and the coaches that we have here um I love learning running the ball and we hadn't did it a lot until last season and that's where I really started to love running the ball as much as I do um but whatever's called out there I I'll protect as long as I can along with the guys that we got beside me um and we're really just we're just trying to win football games yeah pit was able to get in Brennan's face a good amount from just knowing what happened on the field what kind of grade would you give the offensive line in pass Pro I mean pass protection um they figured out that when you know they they' walk seven guys on the line of scrimmage um they kind of knew where I was going to slide it and and that's where they would attack us away from that um so they schemed us up pretty well um and we made some adjustments and then once it got back to you know where we would expect to see that look we didn't see it at all um so I mean I think we had the right call after we figured out you know that they're scheming us up um but it just never got back to the point where we we had that look anymore you said earlier uh that uh you don't see the poutin this year um and won't don't expect you guys to respond the way you did last year is that because of you know spending so much time this summer with the guys and in the spring what Mak Mak you confident in feeling that way and I think yeah like you um in the coaching staffs I think they brought in the right guys for this team um every single guy that's came in older guy younger guy it doesn't matter um has some type of um what's the word uh character about him and and and won't do that um and you know they were either raised right or they they came from a a program that you know didn't allow that either um I think the coaching staff had a big part in in that and I think they've done a great job do you think you guys are more resilient or will be more resilient than you were last year I believe so I believe so um got a lot of guys that have played a lot of ball a lot of guys that are good leaders for us um and I think we we won't have any of the same issues we had last season any other questions for Gavin thank you
