all w [Music] [Music] a we on from formula 1's blast around the sand Junes in xanor we move over to round 16 of the Season back to the home of the toosi it's the Italian Ground Prix here at Ulta drama naala deonza it's round 16 of the season then maxen not winning a race then in over two months by the time Sunday rolls around it will be September but can he get his first win in five races that's going to be the question after that we move over to middle of September we will go to aaban back to back with Singapore October then goes in with a month break before we head to the United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas Mexico follows after then a week later we go to November with Brazil a little bit of a gap before back States died to the Las Vegas Grand Prix and then November takes us into December with guar and the season rounds out on the 8th of December in Abu Dhabi Max withapen leads the title 295 points but Lando Norris is closing him in 225 points to him Charlotte Clair is now in a battle with Oscar pastri 192 to 179 they're followed closely by Carlos SS Lewis Hamilton with two victories and four points last time I has now put him in sixth place Sergio Perez is just holding off George Russell over seventh and eighth Fernando Alonzo L Nik hulkenberg appear at the first page closely in a battle just two points separating them on the second page Yuki Coda has 22 points he's 10 clear to Daniel Ricardo P gy now finally ahead of Oliver bman after getting two points last time out at zanor but then it's Magnuson ahead of Aon level on points Alor a point behind them Z no points for him so far neither for botas sergeant is out replaced by Franco kapino in the Constructor Championship it's hotting up just 30 points between Red Bull and McLaren at the front 434 to 404 Ferrari are on the row no one else around them then we get Mercedes in fourth position then over 2011 points back we actually go to Aston Martin in fifth who are well clear there the battle for six that's interesting RB H closing in on each other Alpine getting them out together Williams now with a new driver line to see how they're going to go in the last nine races and kick salba still with no points on the board let's take a look at the old drama naale deonza here at the Royal Park in Italy it's B the calend since 1950 a fan driver and just about everyone's favorite the Temple of speed [Music] get a good exit out of the last corner and fire down towards the line DRS open eigh gear maximum it's a long run down to turn one at the Ropo make sure that the car is perfectly balanced before you slam on the brakes at around about 70 M into the right left Ropo back on the power from first gear very gingerly as you head down round the curve de Grande Long sweeping right hander ever building up the speed into eighth gear flat out maximum another heavy break to the second chicane the dalar roia chicane breaking 100 me FP the car left right back over the bump don't put a wheel on the gravel as you heard down slightly banked is the rightand of lesmo one it sort of feed you in in fifth gear rising up towards lesmo 2 a lot tighter right-hander as well downhill section of the track as you come now with the second DRS Zone maximum eighth gear down underneath the old banking section as you head towards the ascari chicane quick flick to the left down from E GE all the way to fifth carry lot of speed in the traction will carry you flat up as you head down after a scaring towards the power Boler no DRS in this section is worth one overtake you have to use your ERS battery deployment freak the car in then as well light dabble the brakes down fifth gear into the power Bol carry up the speed use as much exit as you're allowed as you hurle down across the line to complete the lap it's a short track but it's a fan favorite that is a lap of Monza it's qualifying time for one of the most eventful races on the calendar welcome to the auto Jobo Monza is speed and whoever's the fastest tends to get ped position we're going to see what is going to happen here it comes then it's the first part of qualifying for the 2024 Italian Grand Prix down in the pit Lane will be Jess ball and Omi as well up in the commentary box is Josh T alongside myself Josh Burch and Megan Burch making her appearance as well who's going to be on poll who's going to be some surprising exits can the toosi get their home here on poll it's time to begin here is then the Italian Grand Prix first part of qualifying for [Music] Monza e qualifying gets underway here for the Formula 1 parelli grand Premier D Italia it's round 16 of FIA formula 1's 20124 campaign Monza the home of the toosi the home of the Italian Grand Prix hosted a race every single year since 1950 bar one in 1980 when the circuit was modified died after the death of the 1979 season as well so here we have it a three Straits flat out three sectors which located by three different chicanes two DRS zones only though lesmo one and lesmo 2 provide the only right turns as well that lead us back towards the start finish St L will fly forever down the amazing Royal Park areas C5 soft C4 medium C3 is the hard compound Tire getting ready to go we're gonna mainly see the softs and the mediums across these two sessions atmosphere is building tension is building as well we welcome you up to uh the either genius or completely gormless if they get it wrong in terms of that slipstream Down The Long straights you want to be several seconds behind to get the effect of another car your teammate punching a hole in the air but then you don't want to drive into that turbulent air as you're going through key sections like the escari chicane here but if you don't you're leaving valuable time on the table and it's too close up front not to at least try that but you sacrifice one of your drivers it's going to be fascinating and we know that in q1 uh the first part of this qualifying session their all 20 cars will be out there and they will be tripping over each other even before they get out of the pit Lane that's indeed the case isn't it JT uh RPP and top practice one but practice two and practice three have been dominated by Lewis Hamilton the Mercedes next year Bound for Ferrari Carlos signs on the eve of his 30th birthday wants to try and repeat what he had last year and taking Pole Position there's so much pressure out here who's your pick for pole position who have you got lined up on the board pick for pole is going to be I think it's it's going to be open I think we've got leis Hamilton we've got a couple of other drivers in it but I won't be surprised if Hamilton takes it but then again McLaren have been quick the past couple of races and well pace top speed is boxes p goes third actually Max with Chen fastest of all in the second sector comes up towards line he's backed off massively went away he didn't want to he didn't want to push the car save the tire he knew he he knows he's safely through Russell goes fifth behind him sonoda stroll kapino botach Joo looks like that's going to be the design at the moment everyone's down in the first sector because of the yellow flag I think that's an antic climac to get into a very anti clim act close by the qualifying color pins Alonzo's backed out jovic watch is on so it's Coda out stroll out kapino out botas out and Joe Gru for the 15th time in 16 races is eliminated in qualifying one and starts on the 10th row of the Grid at least we call a Pinter it wasn't his fault we shouldn't call it the Slow line we should call it it the show line for row 10 funny col did get his second lap time deleted as well yeah see he it wasn't his fault yeah yellow flag yellow flag affects everybody there unfortunately except the hes huberg had his time to Le for track limits yeah but they get through H don't know about that they do both of them they do not not that last lap time hulkenberg has been deleted by the stewards for chat limits but that wasn't the last lap that he set it was it was no because it would be deleted by now keep an eye on that monitor if it changes sometimes the like to take a few seconds to sort everything in okay let's go through the running order then at the end of q1 it's Norris lir piastri SS Russell ven Hamilton albon Perez Alonzo the top 10 gazley oon hulkenberg Magnus and Ricardo go through the eliminations for sonoda stroll colapinto botas and Joe qualifying one complete Q2 is up next situation then will be coming up to see who's going to be top in a few moments time uh let's check in with our commentary box team JT what did you make of that session well it was a bit boring wasn't it very boring start of Q2 is going to be delayed we've just boring that will be brushing uh gravel up uh back into the gravel trap not on the track I believe at lesmo 2 and at parabolica yeah uh the two uh places where gravel gravel happened there going back to where I mentioned the safety car uh earlier on on Thursday if you haven't seen it it's in the F1 chat uh in the Discord server if that isn't a technical problem yeah I don't know what is it it has because the way that the car snapped tells me that there was something wrong with the brakes or suspension yeah I think but the way that bur mylander spun the car on purpose to get rid of as much energy as possible before it hits the barrier probably stopped him and the passenger getting any in injuries okay let's head back to Sky Sports F1 quickly Megan's got news quickly he was just trying to fill the hole in the wall that Sergeant left hey colapinto yeah sorry for that that's what F colapinto had to say uh Jess you're quick thoughts on key1 before we head back over to crafty very very boring uh um predictable q1 eliminations for quite a lot of drivers but both [ __ ] and Alp through let's head up for the sky just watch goes with the under steer eventually ends up on the gravel has a big snap manages to save it fortunately for him it was earlier in the session so he got to do another lab unfortunately for Franco kapino in his first F1 qualifying session similar in fact carrying more runers Ste in that Williams gets to lesmo to just watches hands there sliding sliding the front hoping it bites and it doesn't he ends up on the gravel and this really was his final lap and his final opportunity so he's ended up getting knocked out in q1 uh maybe take another look at that unsafe release that's being investigated as Martin and cofy said it was really a slam dunk I mean vppa is driving along here and I'm just trying to see where that McLaren mechanic is looking and certainly not looking at Vapin coming down the pit Lane you know and and that is a mistake there by not acknowledging and recognizing that vapen was coming along so I think the team will be in trouble with that one um and I think we've got some Kevin Magnus at Radio we can listen to now oh my God man yeah it ruined the end of Kevin magnuson's lap he is though through to the next part of qualifying which has been delayed because there's a lot of gravel on the track that needs sweeping away before before we get going again uh meanwhile I've just read the guidelines the steward's guidelines for penalties and releasing a car uh in an unsafe uh release for a car team fine uh if it happens during qualifying so I'm not expecting Oscar pastri to get a penalty on the grid for that let's just have a quick look at what's going on on the track and I said that the uh there was a lot of gravel there is I'm I'm assuming those witches brooms Martin they are the most effective way to get rid of gravel yeah carbon fiber obviously and uh high tech but no it looks like u a quick way rather than having to get machines out there uh and then recover those machines back to a and you don't want them going the wrong way around the racet trck either back to a service road it's better to get out there with a bit of elbow grease yeah and amongst two Silver Arrow machines in the Mercedes garage is Bradley Lord he's our expert in the pit lane or in the garage for us this week again down at Mercedes right take us through that first part of qualifying not without its drama for either of your drivers but they're both safely through yeah both safely through as you say cofty um not quite as competitive as we saw in fp3 relative to the field um it's obviously a hotter track so we've just got to make the right changes and give the drivers the right inputs just to keep Tire temps under control particularly the rear axle avoid it sliding the rear end too much because that puts temperature in that then just penalizes them around the rest of the lap so that's the convers ation going on here right now uh talking of temperature both your drivers seem to have very warm bottoms uh going down the street what is what is that about and why can't you do anything about it um it's a little bit to do with how much the car's touching the ground and um that you know we want to run it as quick in the quickest configuration we can Martin so that means running low because that's where these cars perform best um there's also potentially something with the airflow or the arrow we've added wind screens to the car as well to change the air flow around the cockpit to try and help that but to be honest it's something we'll really dig into after this week to to better understand because I don't think we've got a full grasp of um why the cooling air isn't going where it should to toe or not to toe that could be the question what's the answer at Mercedes I think if you ask anyone on the pit wall or wearing an engineering shirt here it's to not tow because what you gain on the straights you lose more in the feeling the same way on the Mercedes Pit All About slip streaming teammates y absolutely I think um you know Lewis obviously has gone fast this George a little bit off will be in the more in the pack than maybe they were in the last two sessions and it's that swrl effect that you're that you're looking for so yeah if you're slip streaming you're sacrificing one car for the other and that's Hamilton sixth they're seventh and eighth and in fact only two10 ahead of Alex albon in the Williams who's had a stellar qualifying session hasn't he and he did out qualify Nico hulkenberg uh for that particular battle Alex albon started ninth here in 2020 but he's always been in the top 10 uh whenever he's been into qualifying here vapen has started from pole only once in the last nine races and I know he did win qualifying in Spar and had to take that engine penalty but that's not Championship form at all no and worse than that it looked such a handful didn't it I mean when we picked him up with a hel shot through the escar isane towards the end of the lap I mean it was all over the place Earth's going on with that car it's it's it's gone from being on Rails to looking really quite difficult to drive it certainly has and without the the top speed to promise you know a chance of overtaking tomorrow as well this was perz we saw the dust and it came from this corner the second at lesmo corner that that that's the handful you're talking about Mar yeah little bit of underair is wandered wide and that will have uh chewed the underneath the car a little bit and then of course that sends Max for stappen who's already gone wide himself in the first lesmo that sends him some dust to drive into which doesn't help him either oh dear that wasn't Red Bull's day but it was McLaren's day David veki has the mic phone in his hand and a McLaren driver in front of him say ciao to everyone to Oscar second Today front row for tomorrow how was your lap man you were there yeah the the first lap in Q2 in Q3 was was quite good just the second one uh not quite enough which uh I feel like I've said a few too many times this year so uh no still a good performance and uh a really good team effort you know I think the The Field's been incredibly tight this weekend so I think I said on the radio you know there was no guarantee of a front row lockout for us so um yeah had amazing effort to to be able to pull that off yeah fantastic moment for you and for your team what do you what do you expect about tomorrow race because seems that you are in a perfect moment with your car yeah I mean starting a bit further up the front than last week is definitely uh a positive for myself uh it's obviously a long run down to turn one so starting second here is is not always the worst thing but um yeah let's see what the the tires do tomorrow it's been uh a little bit different to what we're used to in Monza so uh yeah could be a pretty exciting race and with such a a tight feel at the front I think it will be very exciting well done congratulation front row from Tomorrow Oscar p and now we have George Russell good to see George Russell third position just at the end how was your lap and how was your car to drive yeah it was great uh ending up P3 a little bit better than I expected because it was a really tough session q1 and Q2 and fortunately we saved it until the end not too far behind the McLarens they're so fast at the moment and um we're working so hard to to catch them up but I'm uh yeah super happy with her and tell me about tomorrow because you had some amazing race this season what do you expect and what do you think about mon I think it's going to be a tight battle everybody's so so close out there so exciting for F1 you know we've all been waiting for this competition and knowing if you do a great job you got a chance of Victory so you know I'm I'm pretty pumped for for tomorrow get some nice pizza tonight to to fuel me up and a bit of extra a bit of extra weight so we're not too late tomorrow and hopefully uh we can fight for a good result looking forward for it Well Done congratulations third position for George Russell with Mercedes what big well done to the team done an amazing job uh honestly my lap was it hurts me to say it was not a great lab um my my Q3 run one was but run two was a little bit more and uh we're still getting enough a PLL so a little surprised again but um but very very happy congratulations for it seems that you are building up a fantastic moment for yourself you're racing so well you are always competitive your car is helping you what do you expect for tomorrow race yeah um the same really the same would be lovely but it like we've seen all weekend it's so close um there's a lot of very quick drivers behind and quick cars so I'm not expecting a a very easy race tomorrow um and like George said a lot of un uh unknown things going into the race with the degradation the tires the TAC you know so um plenty of question marks and plenty of excitement I'm sure and then Prim VAR first CH here in mon scared me so much but I'm not London noris but what do you think about that uh I mean it's it's it's always a little daunting you know on a qual lap especially you don't know how much to push uh but it's a fun one the whole circuit is amazing and um I'm looking forward to tomorrow the grid once again closing thoughts then from the team uh Jess Dy in the pits make of qualifying and go into the race tomorrow because then you're not going to be with us oh you going to be in the background oh oh my goodness Nando Norris is on form once again got a pole he's got to nail that start he has to can he translate to the nice win to tomorrow it's going to be kind of repeated maybe 2021 but we'll have to wait and see we obviously don't know what the Ferrari and Mercedes going to do literally three and a half teams are in a chance of winning but I don't think Red Bull are going to be in a chance of those cars looking slow but you know it's it's good ones that always deliver so it should be fun JC yeah as Jess said we are honestly going to have to wait and see we know what land nois most most of the time happens at turn one he drops down a couple of positions but then we saw like last week he fought back and he got it by 20 plus seconds will we see that around Monza 20 plus seconds I don't think so because of the nature of this circuit but with the top speed that the M that the Mercedes engine and the McLaren team has I honestly will not be surprised if we see
