Madden 23 - Los Angeles Chargers @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers - All Time Teams (Super Bowl) foreign football is the home of Super Bowl 57 and this historic matchup is brought to you by EA Sports It's the Los Angeles Chargers in the Dallas Cowboys and it's all up next as always to be bringing you coverage of the National Football League Sports [Applause] here as it'll be the AFC Champion La Chargers taking on the NFC champions the Dallas Cowboys Brandon going alongside Charles Davis and CD you look at these La Chargers champions of the AFC making just their second Super Bowl appearance at first of course since the move back to Los Angeles and coincidentally trying to be the second consecutive La team to win a title and they are certainly hoping that this game works out better than their first Super Bowl appearance a 23-point loss to San Francisco in Super Bowl 29. meanwhile the Cowboys have had some ups and downs since their last Super Bowl appearance but they're back for the ninth time trying to win number six and tie the Patriots and Steelers for the Cowboys their last Super Bowl title quite a while ago January of 96. and those were great teams Jimmy Johnson was their head coach Troy Aikman Emmitt Smith Michael Irvin all Hall of Famers they were known as the triplets but then you go further back to those great teams in the 70s led by Hall of Fame coach Tom Landry Roger Stahl back at quarterback Tony Dorsett at running back those are great teams as well this one trying to create their own identity 1st quarter the hype and the talk is over we're set for the big one Super Bowl 57 away we go from Arizona and we will not have a return so the first drive of the Super Bowl will begin at the 25. so here's the charger offense making their way out and leading them out there they're 6'5 quarterback no doubt he's living out a dream right now he's had dating back to his first days of playing football as a kid but he certainly can't get lost in the moment right now there's still a Super Bowl to be played and his offense they're looking to him to be their leader you can take it all in when it's over right now you've got the biggest game of your life to win [Applause] Rivers now the throw on first down and he's got his man in stride complete and he's going to be dropped following a pick up a seven past the 30 to the 32. I think defensively you're okay with that here in the first quarter he's going to get some catches but they rallied to him quickly and that's what you count on and I like what you just said first quarter can you do it all game long they catch it you tackle them they go down on the spot because when you're able to do that you don't give up big chunks of yardage after the catch now you put the offense in a position where every series they have to work hard to pick up first downs and you've got to stall them out when you do that that one good for 20. on the catch and run I think when they look at their offense they think to themselves weapons weapons everywhere and they want to move the ball around they want to spread it to different people but you absolutely know they want to get this man involved as well and that's what they just did on that flag [Applause] yeah so from Cowboy territory now here's First and Ten at the 48-yard line uh give up the middle to Tomlinson a little Juke a good run there on first down and it'll leave him with a second and two a nice run here early on it doesn't take a great play call to realize you want to establish a guy with his caliber with runs like this early because they'll pay dividends as the game progresses eight yards the gain on that last run here's second and a couple again it's Tomlinson and they'll be inside the 35 now at the 34-yard line six yards the pickup and that's a first down a couple of nice carries back to back here establishing the ground game a bit yeah these are Bare Bones runs now I mean they're getting substantial yarders the kind of yards you're looking for right let's go ahead music please stay ahead of the change right five more five or more yards each time that's what you're looking for in setting a tone and getting your offensive line going good sign on the opening drive [Applause] from the 34 now here's first and 10. from the shotgun it's Rivers he's going to launch this thing way down field it's incomplete took a shot couldn't connect well a momentary speed bump there with that throw partner the defense had other ideas and they're trying to mount a small stand before this drive reaches the end zone so now second and ten after the incompletion on first down now here's a little touch pass as they tap it quickly to their receiver now that play is blown up losing yardage back at the 35. the seventh play now of this opening drive this is third and long though Rivers and that is incomplete the coverage keyed in on him since that last completion his way he earned a little more attention on that route and that made it a lot tougher to get a clean throw his way the Chargers will bring out the field goal unit now it'll be spotted on the right Hash A 52-yard attempt and he missed it it's no good and this will remain a scoreless game well that is not what you want to see from him on the big stage obviously he's been so reliable all season long a big part of why they've gotten here to this game but you have to wonder will this hot done later as the Super Bowl progresses well out now come to Cowboys good field position to start the drive after the missed field goal here's first down from the 42. now Aikman looking middle and it's incomplete even in today's NFL when we think of the tight end position Now is really a glorified wide receiver we're still asking a lot of those guys they have to block as well and every now and then they don't come down with the football ball on the 42 as they come up second and ten now Aikman looking to throw and that's real behind his man he missed him incomplete everyone rolls into the Super Bowl saying hey I'm confident I'll just do what I did before but let's face it you got to be wary the Jitters going into a big game like this Super Bowl is unlike any other game you're going to block and now he's starting out oh for two we'll see if he can rebound so back to back in completions and that has him staring at a third and ten out of the gun it's Aikman [Applause] they failed on that third down play that brings up fourth down and the power off the punted away bound now comes the Cowboys Potter as he's on to punt for the first time tonight [Applause] and a nice special team's job here this is going to be down inside the 10 and the Seven but someone's going to be happy with that effort you know what else is going to be happy his defense absolutely he's created a very long field for that offense to try to Traverse and he got some help for Mr Football there checking up nicely good English on that punt let's go [Applause] [Music] [Applause] on First and Ten Rivers and he's got him got his man on the Inland complete this will be stopped about two yards shy of the marker eight-yard gain second and two we've seen quite a bit of the short passing game here early on first quarter haven't we we have and I think it works a couple of ways for for this team because number one you throw the short game until they stop it if they're not going to stop you keep throwing in occasionally you'll break a tackle and turn into a bigger game also if they start to creep up start the pressure receivers now you go over the top take it deep and then get some of those big shots downfield four yards the pickup first down in the tight end is certainly a position built to move the chains because they can control space underneath if they've got good hands then of course they're a dynamic Target but one other thing is they're right in the sight lines of a quarterback on just about every play and that makes it easier for the quarterback to pick him out and deliver play action now Rivers pass incomplete whenever I see a drop like that I have to kind of take a step back and check myself a little bit so used to seeing those big guys make big time spectacular plays that when they drop one after reminding myself we ask a lot out of these guys blocked and catch the football not easily done in today's NFL so after the incompletion on first now second and ten rivers to throw it and to the right side here it's Allen this will be a gain of about eight to the 27-yard line [Applause] they're on third down the Cowboys bringing an extra defensive back again it's Rivers and he'll go right back to Allen that's complete and he is going to have the Chargers first down it's a gain of six that time on Third and two gotta say it was a little surprised to see him Charles come out in a shotgun on Third and less of the yard yeah but the way the NFL is nowadays we hardly ever see anyone really run for it on short yardage so they're going to throw the football more times than not that was a nice easy Rhythm throw right there and they pick up the first down [Applause] so they'll come up first in 10 now from the 33. Rivers he's got a man complete and he has a big gain inside the 40 before being dropped a really good pickup of 28 yards that's the third time on this drive that these two have connected with each other they've got a real Rapport going and right now it's paying off a big chunks of yardage as shown by that last play so from Cowboy territory now here's First and Ten at the 38. they'll throw again Rivers and that is incomplete but depending on the team they call that an explosive play or a chunk play the one that they got on the previous one they tried to go back and get another one didn't they they did but unsuccessful on that second attempt an incomplete pass on first down that leads to a second and ten tablets it up the middle he'll get only three there so it leaves him with a third and seven ahead pretty good little two-play sequence there you foresee incompletion then a very short pickup yeah now maybe bring in an extra defensive back or two because you won't try to defend on third down they like to play those nickel or sub packages don't they an eight play drive to this point so here's play number nine on Third and seven now Rivers going right side here and that's complete and he's going to have another first down here as the tackles made at the Cowboys 14. give them 22 there on the third down conversion I don't care who you put on him he's gonna be a handful in one-on-one throws yeah right now you're right they're in man-to-man maybe needs some safety help I would say that'd be a good idea double team him somehow I'm gonna have to make someone else beat me rather than let him shred my defense here's a First and Ten at the 14-yard line from the red zone now Rivers Allen hit he lost the football it's picked up by the Cowboys I don't know about you but I'm gonna go to the positive side this time yeah there was a fumble at the end of this one but what a sustained drive and if they keep stringing those together you got to like their chances and credit the defense so you're out there for that long you start to get tired but they were able to get the turnover did you just credit the defense I like to credit the defense and the offense I like you and the analysts that's perfect [Applause] looking to pass Aikman on first down that's going to be complete on the sideline but you know that throw left him no room to run and the good footwork nearly all for not and just three yards on the catch there he couldn't get away and it's second down the handoff Dorsett up the middle that what a first down pick up of eight well one unit I know you all watches on an offensive line if they keep clearing holes no doubt about it because when they are in sync as we're seeing so far with that continuity is there and you can see that they're playing off of each other while controlling the defensive front and linebackers you're exactly right could be a very long night for the defense because someone's going to run for some big yardage first down here's Aikman and his throw is going to be incomplete that certainly appears that they're going to try and keep getting him the football that's the third time they've looked in his Direction unfortunately haven't completed one yet but I'm not sure they're going to shy away from him they feel like they've got something there and they want to capitalize I think you're right we're only in the first quarter so a lot of opportunities ahead second and ten now it's Aikman and this one taken in on the right sideline but not in the field of play they say it's incomplete the throw led him a little too far and brings up third down well they'll certainly be on the tablets going over that one for sure clearly they were expecting something else out of the defense and couldn't adjust to make that completion happen to throw his Aikman going deep here for Bryant and unable to connect incomplete they'll give him credit they took their shot but it's going to bring up fourth down well they've got man coverage on the outside and my scouting report on these DBS tells me that they love to take matters in their own hands they want man coverage not zoned and there was good coverage there that forced the incompletion well now comes the Cowboys Potter as he'll kick it away for the second time fair catch called for and made it about the 32-yard line so a change of possession here on the punt and it'll be Charger football here as they take over [Applause] so they'll come up first in 10 now from the 33. Rivers now the finest man on the out route that's Allen and he'll be out of bounds but able to get it up past the 45. 15 yards is the pick up there and the drive starting very nicely first down that's a pretty throw right there that ball's in the air a long time but it's right on the money on the right sideline a really good route moving the Defenders towards the middle of the field before breaking to the sideline what a completion there Big Time arm strength very nice round [Applause] so one play and they're already just shy of Midfield they go play action Rivers right side catch this is Gates and they get to him after a gain of six to the 46. nice Rhythm throw there on first down he located his tight end made it nice easy pitching catch hoping he can break a tackle or two wasn't able to do that there but still good yardage foreign [Applause] football 101 there you just see the receiver try to run down the defender meaning he goes right at him and really trying to move him a little bit towards the center of the field so he can put his foot in the ground and break to the out to the sideline and make a catch now Tomlinson on First and two and he finds a little bit of room enough for four yards it'll be second down on any running play that's called they're always hoping that it's going to break big and go the distance but when you get a nice game like that you're able to do so many things anyway and come back and run essentially the same play again continue to move the ball on the ground or he can decide to throw the ball now because usually you have the defense back on its heels and he'll get a little over two maybe a full three down to the 32-yard line a big part of a middle linebacker's job is being able to take on blocks and then go make plays but the best ones they have those big guys in front of them playing defensive line the whole blockers off of them and allowed him to flow sideline to sideline and make the big hits rivers from the gun on third down and that will be incomplete as a quarter you have to be able to run with guys step or step down Fielder man coverage and make up ground quickly in zone you have to put yourself in position to make plays just like that one we saw there the charger so bring out the field goal unit now it'll be a 49-yard attempt from the left hand [Applause] they're going to fake it he wants to throw it here and he's brought down can't do anything with a football it's a sack and a turnover on Downs it would have been a long field goal the fake doesn't work out and the Cowboys defense is going to get him the football back so out come the Cowboys now as their offense gets set to take over partner I know so far we're still in the first half but you love this game as a defensive guy zero to zero we'll see if the offense can get going on this drive but you know how they talk about music to your ears how about what it does for your eyes when you watch something like this right where these teams are locked in and going at it no points going up on the scoreboard I'm loving it you're exactly right well switch over though to an offensive mindset for a moment what do they need to do here to get on track and get some points ways number one you pull out something maybe they haven't seen before coach is always talking about unscouted looks maybe you give him something that they haven't seen on tape and now you shock them that way the second run your basic playable but run it so well that you give your scope position guys a chance to make big plays individually [Applause] so first down carry for Smith down inside the 40. I feel like I could see [Applause] lines on that one being bigger the Run got four now they deal with the second and six they go back to the ground with Smith and a short game there down to the 37-yard line the big fella stuffed that one up in a big way I put him priority because you can't move up to the next level if you don't take care of him first an extra defensive back on the field for the Chargers now on third down now it's Aikman they'll set up the screen to Smith and they're able to get this one past the 30 to the 25-yard line a good looking drive for the Cowboys so far it's a first down when you run a screen pass really well you gotta like the look of it because so many parts come together to make it work well the offensive linemen where they're faking people out the back slipping out there catching the football then all of them going together as one unit downfield a really nice pickup one quarter done three more to play here in Super Bowl 57. can't wait to see what the second quarter has in store this is the NFL on EA Sports this offense 2nd quarter finding its legs now here's another First and Ten and we are back and ready to go for the second quarter of the Super Bowl Brandon Garden Charles Davis as always thrilled to be with you thanks for tuning in everyone no he was hit as he threw it there and that one winds up incomplete nice progress down the field was halted by that incompletion they could try for some safeguards here to get things moving again or keep throwing it and pushing it down field to try and pick up bigger yardage up the middle they go with Dorset and he'll get it down inside the 20 to the 18-yard line they get seven out of that so they're left with a third and three that was a really nice run there to bring up third and short after the incompletion on first down it's awfully nice to have a running back that you can hand it to and put you back in a good situation the offense on third down tonight just one for three thus far this time it's third and three they dump it off complete to Dorset and he'll be out of bounds taking it just shy of the 10 at the 11 of the 12. give him six yards and they do convert on third [Applause] from down it to 12. it's First and Ten side handoff Smith and a pickup of about four down inside the 10 to the eight yard line but that call makes sense because they've been throwing it well on this drive and once again they show passing formation showing the shotgun then they ran out of it that's a nice play about them defensively though to hold it to a short game facing a second and six from the eight here's Aikman setting to throw it [Applause] and third and one now I'm wondering if the same thing went through your mind is mine when I see a big man like that make a catch aren't you thinking myself as a big man with football look out everyone he may not Juke you a whole lot right he may not run past you because of his size you're talking about a guy win in the 270 range but boy once he gets his mid to him and he will take it in for a Cowboy score taking it in from two yards out and the Cowboys post the first points of the ball game as they take the lead here in his second quarter third down and short and everything well executed he not only gets the first down Charles he gets the touchdown as well and you see the defense commit to the run so often in these situations a little bit of hesitancy isn't their partner thinking that they made play action yet they took advantage of that hesitancy and found their way into the end zone with a running play now the extra point and this is up and good to make it seven nothing Cowboys so that was a pretty time consuming 10-play drive and it's culminated by a two-yard touchdown run Bailey now to kick it away after the touchdown from a yard or two deep here comes a return and he'll wind up getting a couple extra yards here for his trouble to bringing it out of the end zone as he's down at the 27th the offense for Los Angeles returns to the field they'll be looking to match that touchdown from a moment ago 7-0 is the score as they begin with a first down from the gun Rivers and that one complete downfield to Allen Eddie and he's going to be out of bounds right at Midfield a good pick up there a 22. and partner they're locked in man coverage out left and they end up running acrossing route rounded it a little bit more than a slant he's just going to angle himself towards the right side of the field and that's very difficult for Defender to Shadow him across all that ground all right [Applause] they'll go up to got with Tomlinson and he'll work this forward for about three at second down not a huge carry there on first down but not all of them will be but still all in all a positive play for the offense it's all about picking up at least a few to set up what you're going to do here on second down the last run got three now here's second and seven to throw Rivers Allen's got it complete and he's going to have another first down here as the tackles made at the Cowboys 33. over 100 yards receiving for him now in this Super Bowl that's a nice catch there remember he had the fumble earlier no way he was giving up the ball in that situation secured it tight to his body and picks up the first down so they'll come up first in 10 now from the 33. off the play fake here rivers on the move to his and he can't get rid of it he's taken down they'll wind up losing eight on the sack there and it's second down but defensively on the previous play they gave up a pretty good chunk of yardage but right there they got a good portion of it right back and if we just flip it around from the offensive perspective took a nice step forward and how about a couple of weeks backwards after that play they've got to figure out a big call coming up here to try and game that yardage back I don't know gotta imagine the pass rush should be equally intense here on second down following the sack it's second and 18. oh the pressure too great and he goes down once more the defense rising to the challenge and setting him back on the sand and he continues Charles to be under constant pressure and these sacks are starting to pile up if they want to have a realistic Chance in This one they've got to change their blocking assignments they've got to do a better job to keep him upright if he's going to be on the deck constantly they've got no chance to win this game need something from deep in the bag of tricks here after first and second down went backwards hits third and very long to throw his Rivers he's going to air one out and that will be incomplete well they weren't scared to let it fly but it falls to the ground and brings up fourth down and secondary has been roasted in this first half but they get a measure Revenge there nice play on the Deep ball yeah they're going to need a few more plays like that in order to get their confidence fully back but that's one step in the proper direction he'll get off a fairly short kick here as this is toward the sideline and they won't risk defending a return here that one's out of bounds and it'll be spotted spotted at the 14-yard line Dallas offense set for this next Drive things progressing to plan so far their defense has been solid and they've got themselves a 7-0 lead after the touchdown the last time they had the ball and this is no time to even think about hey are we going to milk the clock here we just gotta do ball control this is the NFL seven to nothing leads they don't last very long unless you continue to push the envelope on offense on First and Ten it's Aikman dorsett's got it call it a gain of six on the play and that'll bring up second down just about every quarterback is trained to really look downfield first before you come back and make a nice safe throw and in this case that's exactly what he did found his running back let him create some space and it turned out to be a nice play for the offense on second down here's Smith and he'll be tackled at the 23 after a game of three that's some good tackling there to keep him short of that yellow line yeah defensively all I'm thinking is that on that play give me the third down get me into a position where I can make one more play and get my defense off the field the Cowboys on third down they've converted three out of five thus far they need just a yard here it's third and one they'll try to run for it with Smith and he's able to pick up the first before he's taken down at the 27. they're able to convert with a gain of four random what were they thinking on defense there they looked like they were playing for the pass that was third and short yeah it was an easy pickup because they handed it to him that was way too easy just looked like an absolute confusion defensively not sure why they were in that set yeah I'd say you ought to have a few men in the box there good job they'll want it again with Smith five yards on the carry good pickup on first down he did have the touchdown run earlier but not heck of a lot more than that throughout this game no not at all in fact I would say that this defense has done as good of a job on him as they have on any runner in recent memory the first down run got five here's second and five Smith up the middle and this is going to be a Cowboys first down as the tackle made it about the 38. it's nice every now and then in this game not to see people overthink it just hand it to the Old Reliable guy let him pick up the first down [Applause] so here's a First and Ten at the 38. now Aikman over the middle complete that's Brian and he'll be tackled on the other side of Midfield at the 46-yard line so many times in my career effort coaches talk about completions are one thing as long as we're there at the catch and we get guys on the ground we can live with that but if you're going to give up 10 12 15 yards after the catch then your defense is going to be in a lot of trouble [Applause] so from charger territory now here's a First and Ten at the 46. now Aikman looking to throw again to Bryant and again it's caught and he's going to be taken down right at the 40-yard line [Applause] they'll come up on a second and four now from the 40-yard line fake middle throw ing the out loud into clean it's Brian and he gets it down a yard or two shy of the 30 before he's out of bounds they just keep marching right along first down on a pickup of eight there the handoff to Smith he's tackled a yard short of the marker good gain of nine on first down that's a strong pickup right there on first down and as this drive goes on we're seeing an offensive line and running game imposing its will the last run got nine that leaves him with second and a yard they're going to look to throw now they go screen it's complete but he is out of bounds but first he gets it inside the 10 to the seventh that gain of 15 gets him on the doorstep first and goal and when you're throwing the ball downfield really well like they have been on this drive it's really a nice time to work one of the screenplays in one of my favorite play Callers In the game has always told me he starts every game with 10 to 12 screens because if he starts feeling the pressure from the defense he uses their aggressiveness against them out of the gun it's Aikman yeah that is cool touchdown Cowboys a seven yard touchdown Brown and the Cowboys continue to look good here in the first half of this Super Bowl CD for them this has just been an offensive explosion here in the second quarter it outstorless in the first quarter now they find the end zone again here in the second sometimes you just have to have some patience a lot of people think it's always an adjustment you have to change what you're doing sometimes just have to do your game plan just a little bit better and I think that's part of what we're seeing here the extra point splits the uprights and that'll make the score 14-0 a pretty long drive that time 11 plays all told and it culminates into Dallas touchdown Bailey now to kick it away after the touchdown from a couple yards deep he'll bring it out of the end zone and he's probably realizing he should have stayed in the end zone as he can only muster a return to the 14-yard line La readies for its next possession and they're in a bind early here down 14-nothing are you worried at this stage you're still too early you're worried you're just trying not to transmit it to the rest of your team you want to make sure that they stay positive but at the same time you're wondering how are we going to move the football what do we have on this play sheet that can work Get Back to Basics is usually your answer and make sure you find the guy who can move the ball fastest for you if you just get it in his hands yeah still second quarter you get points up and he fumbled it it's on the ground it's picked up by the Cowboys and good field position coming up here football at the 12-yard line and a little careless there Charles on that carry and it's not just having two hands on the ball is tucking it away it's using your body to keep people shielded off there's so many different things into taking care of it and having ball Security in that case though we didn't see it happen now out comes their leader and the captain of this offense back onto the field he's played a pretty clean first half a touchdown no interceptions frankly that's what they expect out of it they want to see the ball thrown and thrown well and he's able to do that and put it in the end zone they'd love to see more of that before this game finishes but right now he's got his team in a good spot a good spot maybe looking for touchdown pass number two here in the second quarter Dale Aikman on first down and this will be incomplete and to put it mildly this is a tough spot defensively they have to come right back out and defend their Red Zone but how about that good first step towards forcing them to settle for at least three points I think they're also thinking bigger right now imagine being able to stop them totally and change the momentum after the incomplete pass here now is second and ten he'll look to throw and a little floater there but it'll wind up incomplete falling to the ground when they approach this drive with a lot of confidence after their last one ended up as a touchdown but incompletions on their first two throws has them hustling up and trying to figure out a big play here on third down to get their momentum going again the chance of wasting this great starting field position a real threat this is third and long they'll look to throw toward the end zone but that's going to wind up incomplete and that's a Crusher right there had his man open for a first down through a fastball when that wasn't necessary incomplete pass one of these quarterbacks going to learn you don't get extra points for how hard you throw the football so now on fourth down Mike McCarthy will turn to his field goal unit there this one will be a 29-yard attempt and his kick is indeed good and that will extend their lead even further so the fumble recovery had him set up in ideal field position but they can muster only three points out of it yeah when you're able to force turnovers a special when it results in good position like they have you really want to make it hurt here they take the field goal that's definitely not what they were hoping for now after the field goal Bailey will kick it away let's take it in at the goal line and he'll get it up across the 20 to the 21-yard line La set to take over again on offense and we don't want to call this desperation time especially in the second quarter but you don't want to I know but let me finish okay you're down three scores already you've done nothing offensively nothing on the scoreboard that's that's not a good combination I think you know I think you just called the desperation time I think you did but let's face it you mentioned this to me in a break earlier in the game the energy level hasn't been there right from the start we've noticed that they've got to find a way to get on their toes and start punching instead of retreating to use a boxing analogy and he's got it past the 30 before he's hit and dropped give him 10 yards there and about by the nose of the football he's going to have a first down now that's how you start to get back into good graces of your head coach remember he fumbled on the last possession how about the faith they showed him giving him the ball again and he repaid them picking up a first down first down Rivers caught by Gates left side galleries on here a pickup of eight leaves him with two to go on second down they really love to get him into one-on-one opportunities and this is one way work him out of the slot and create a mismatch who's going to cover it Corner safety linebacker he's got a way to beat all of those positions on second down here's the option he'll grab three yards on the play taking it himself for the first down [Applause] two minutes on the clock in the second quarter of this Super Bowl Rivers now to throw on first down and it's incomplete but he doesn't drop many like that one second down he was out there waving his arms saying throw it here dropped it not a good goal well all I can do is just look at him with contempt on that one as a defensive back I'm saying not as an announcer just like really a little bit of a diva look isn't it yeah very much so because I think what happens is it just had too much time to think he's wide open now here comes the ball and he doesn't concentrate and drops it another throw on second down and this one incomplete as well feels like they're getting caught in between here because that incompletions on first and second down now you got to worry a little bit about the clock because you preferred not to give him another shot here in the first half if you don't pick up the first down guess what you're likely going to have to on third down Rivers throwing left side it's complete and he'll go down but not before getting this inside the 30. give him 32 on the play for an offense it has not found the end zone yet that's a big play there's the spark right there the big play that they needed now they've got to go ahead and finish this drive and put and puts ball in the end zone so now then the big play has them all the way inside the 30 now first and 10. throwing Rivers Gates and he gets it inside the 10 to the nine another big hitter there this one good for 18. how about the way they're moving the ball down the field they had a big play a moment ago followed it up with another nice one here and before you know it they're already looking at first and goal thanks the Chargers gonna signal for the first of their timeouts as they'll stop it with just over a minute to go before halftime [Applause] this is first and goal and a golden chance to get a score back here before halftime Rivers this is called touchdown Chargers a nine-yard touchdown ground and the Chargers are on the board here in this Super Bowl the way this one was going you just got the sense they needed something before half they've at least got something on the board now still trailing but a good sign that takes me back to our preseason tour of NFL camps remember we we talked with that one coach he said his emphasis this year was scoring in the last two minutes of a half heading into the locker room this hits it right there take that momentum take that good feeling and take the locker room regroup and start over they got it here they did indeed a lot of football a full half to be played point after right down the middle and that'll cut the lead to 17-7 oh yeah the kick unit on here for the Chargers as they will send this one away and it'll come out to the 25 as he will not attempt to return a look at the running back the man out of the backfield as he gears up to go again he's been effective so far over the 40-yard Mark here in the second quarter don't forget about those guys out front though they've been effective too The Leverage game has been in their favor they've been the ones who've been able to bend their knees drop their hips and get a little bit lower than the guys on the other side of the football and they've moved him out of the way for the runner sometimes that's tough for those Big Fellas not an easy thing for them to do looking to pass Aikman on first down with the left side it's complete he's got it the cowboy is going to burn the first of their timeouts as they get the stoppage with a little over 50 seconds to go in the first half [Applause] ball up to the 35 now as they come up on First and Ten to throw his Aikman left side it's Dorset now another timeout called four by the offense as they get the stoppage with just under 50 seconds remaining in half number one second and two now it's Aikman and this is caught by written the tight end and they're going to get this up to Midfield I got kicked out of that one partner you and I talk often about trying to hide receivers in certain situations but his size you can't really hide it but the tight end drag route definitely an effective way to sneak him across the formation for an easy completion and a first down [Applause] from the Midfield strike they'll look to throw caught on the right side by Dorset and he will have a first down as they're into field goal range now at the 30. now a timeout signaled for and they'll get it with 10 seconds to go before halftime so even though it's first down here's the field goal unit on now to try to get three before halftime he made his first this from 47 yards out and this will split the uprights it's right down the middle and that will open the lead up now to 20-7 so a big play before the end of the half to get him into this spot and they cash in with three how about the 1-2 to the solar plexus on that one the big play the goal not much time left on the clock that's the way to go into the half so six seconds old it remains of this first half as the kick is away taken at the goal line and he's only going to make it to the 13-yard line and no further no reason to do anything foolish as they'll snap it one more time on first down All That Remains is to snap this once and that'll do it for the first half of play welcome one and all to our beautiful new downtown Orlando studios for this EA Sports halftime report first though let's run through the next gen stats for the Chargers in that first half and it's been the passing game that's been the story they have feasted on the secondary to the tune of 200 plus yards already through two quarters meanwhile for the Cowboys they weren't quite a successful throwing the ball as their counterparts were but they still were able to move the ball reasonably well in that first half all right coach thank you very much as we welcome you back for quarter number three [Applause] 3rd quarter these two teams sat through a longer than usual 30-minute wait but we're back in Action here in the Super Bowl and this is Fielding right at the goal line and he won't get this to the 20-yard line as he's down at the 19. now come the Cowboys now as he'll go on offense first here in this third quarter and I would imagine this is where you have to take stock in the situation CD and say gosh we're halfway to the Lombardi trophy let's not slow down now and I like the way you went there let's not slow down now because the first half certainly went their way and I would expect them to continue with that type of a game plan but you're right you do think back to Super Bowl 54. 49ers had a double-digit lead in the fourth quarter couldn't hold on so plenty can still happen they'll start this drive out on the ground they showed off the athletic Juke good little gain there not a whole lot of real estate but a nice carry give him nine on the carry that time and they're set up with a second and one off the play fake here's Aikman this one complete to Renton over the metal but not before they work it across Midfield 22 yards there a first down and that's a more than acceptable read right there because it's Zone coverage so timing is everything this time you wait for his man to come open puts it and they pick up a first down so from charger territory now here's a First and Ten at the 49-yard line here's Aikman setting to throw it [Applause] nowhere to go here he lost the football and picked up by the Chargers and he's able to get it back to right around the 27. he was back there forever you got to get rid of the football there I mean the amount of time he had was probably double what you normally have to throw the football and he doesn't find anyone so you're exactly right he's got to get rid of it but the next question I would have is what were the receivers doing in that amount of time someone's got to find their way open because a normal time three three and a half seconds to get rid of somewhere in that neighborhood and they really doubled that that's not supposed to happen where he still has the football and he ends up losing it yoga time let's go Rivers now after the fumble recovery and his throw is incomplete and those two just haven't been in sync thus far they've done a nice job against him but still with his talent you would expect him to have more completions to him in this game [Applause] so now second and ten after the incompletion on first down on the handoff Tomlinson and he's got this pretty close to a first down at the Cowboys 19-yard line 44 yards rushing for him now in the ball game that was a good run probably right on the edge of breaking into something really big so the defensive guys right now are talking about okay what can we do to slow him down before he truly gets started they'll look for the first one Tomlinson he's going to be a yard short needed two but only got one fourth down well they picked up a portion of it but not all that they needed now that leads to a decision a fourth and one let's see what they decide to do they're running Tomlinson and he'll have the first down getting this one to the 14-yard line a solid pickup of five and a very solid fourth down conversion and defensively pure frustration [Applause] this is [Applause] the fourth down run successful now they look to pay it off on first down they go again to townlinson and now they're inside the 10 as he's brought down at the nine give him five on the carry there and it'll be second down and when you get good yardage like that on first down it really does a whole lot of good for your entire offense but I love the way he's finishing those runs at the end of things he's making sure he gets just a little bit extra from the nine second and five on the handoff here's Tomlinson he pushes forward from maybe three down to the six yard line yeah so they get that one Charles on the right tackle he oftentimes at that spot you're trying to work against the defender trying to set the edge in the running game and you're trying to drive around and get your body Twisted so that he can't get there sometimes your hands get too involved a second down pass play there but it's incomplete it certainly didn't appear that that's where he wanted to go with the ball initially so he tried to get something out of it by dumping it off to his running back unsuccessfully seventh play in this drive coming up but a long way to go on third down now Rivers Daddy's wrapped up taken down back in the 25. it'll be a loss of eight on the sack and it's going to lead him to fourth down and this dominant defensive performance continued on that play this poor quarterback has now received the protection he needs and has had to pick himself up off the turf far too often all right the Chargers will bring out the field goal unit now from the left hash it's a 42-yard attempt and this one is right through and that cuts into the deficit it's now 20 to 10. so the defense are able to force their first turnover of the game and then they add on to that by getting the field goal and you don't just want to take the ball away from your opponent partner you want to make them hurt as well and if you don't score yourself on defense turn it over to your offense and have them put points on the board the kick unit on here for the Chargers as they will send this one away and here comes a return for just beyond the goal line and no chance to get away as they'll get him down at about the 17-yard line here's the Dallas offense now heading back out onto the field and last time they coughed it up led to a field goal they're fortunate that it only led to a field goal but still they're not happy about it could you sense the relief though when they only gave up the field goal and they were able to drop back out on the field and start this drive a little more pep in their step because it didn't cost their team a touchdown but they know they've got to do it a lot better than they did on the last possession coach will just be relieved though if they recoup with a score here right I think coach would be ecstatic to see that pick themselves back up and now take it downfield punch in the end zone without turning it over and nothing doing he's immediately taken down at the line of scrimmage no gain on the play it'll be second down but we talk about Defenders specifically linebackers keeping their eyes in the right spot he had that eye down the entire time and you know that's not easily done because they throw a lot of misdirection at you they try and fool you and get your eyes in the wrong place but you're right about that one he correctly figured that one out and made a really nice play and he'll find some space up to about the 25. 48 yards on the ground for him so far Well you certainly have to give a little credit here because they're playing this game now at their Pace this is ball control football sustained runs taking their time and making it work they'll come to the line eating only two yards to gain the first here now Aikman staring at third and two he finds it and the promise knocked out and picked up by the Chargers now the return here is stopped at the 35-yard line whenever I see a team turn it over on back-to-back drives fumbles on their last two I know one person's blood pressure who is starting to rise and that's the head coach absolutely and when's it going to go down when they stop fumbling when they stop fumbling and after he's assessed the game film and only if they manage to win the game ball up to the 35 now as they come up on First and Ten following the fumble recovery Rivers out to his left and it's a short one here complete to his tight end this will be a gain of about eight to the 27-yard line so much goes into a successful play doesn't it how about that play action there freezing the defense just enough spring to tight end free downfield for the completion [Applause] only needing two yards on second down well they'll run it here on the Jet Sweep and he'll lose yardage here going down back at the 28. they'll lose a yard on the play so now they need three yards on third down there's a wide out when you take that hand off and you're coming around the edge you're expecting to see nothing but empty space in front of you but if not well things can go south in a hurry and that's exactly what we saw in that play with the loss this offense in desperate need of a conversion as they come up on third down from the shotgun it's Rivers he's got Allen and he's brought down here just outside of the 20. and Brandon from our time in college football where receivers weren't running the traditional NFL route tree one thing they did learn find open areas find soft spots and set up and catch the ball I think we just saw that there yeah we saw that indeed picking up the first [Applause] on First and Ten Rivers it's a screen pass that's complete and he will lose yardage and be backed up to the 24. despite the completion they're going to wind up losing three there second down boy how good has this defense been seemingly all game long I really think right from the first snap I think you're really on to something there in this passing game it just can't get off the ground and that play it wound up losing yardage behind the chain second and 13. to throw his Rivers and this is caught for the moment it's a touchdown but multiple Flags down so let's sort this out so we track the yardage and retract the touchdown and retract the chunk play Big strike there to get the touchdown that'll get to take it back and see if they get another one still in their Arsenal there are the Cowboys here on third down bringing in an extra defensive back Rivers now Gates has it and he lost the football they'll call it Locker skill whatever the case is they're feeling good about just keeping the football there yeah the biggest thing that they're calling it now our ball I mean I don't care if it was luck or skill for the Panic that jumps up in your chest when that Ball's on the ground whether you get it or your teammate gets it just as long as you retain possession that's all you're looking for first and goal and they got to be thinking a chance to get right back into this football game they'll throw again Rivers Trasher now he's gonna go down sack back around the eight and a sack leads to roughly a loss of six and it brings up second and goal how about that partner his second sack of the game and that puts him in some pretty good company 17 guys have had two sacks in the previous 52 Super Bowls but only three have had the record number of three sacks in this game and we've got the list here if he gets another one and everyone behaves nicely we might just list those out for him [Applause] it's second and goal back to the eight yard line now here's Rivers that one thrown away from the pocket and the officials kind of looking at each other but they'll say there was a receiver in the area so no penalty just an incomplete pass wave's gonna give out a little Applause on that play it has to go to the defense more good work by them they've taken away the passing Lanes all game long and you can see the frustration that it's causing because he just about threw that one into the first row yeah this will be caught in the end zone for Chargers touchdown from eight yards out and the Chargers are back within a score and in the Red Zone I guess this is why you have a guy like that on your roster without a doubt if you have him you use him because he's the guy who's going to win just about every time I don't care what the coverage is an extra point forthcoming it's up and good and the leads now down to three at 20 to 17. so that drive in total eight plays and it winds up with a touchdown for Los Angeles the kickoff team on the field now as they will send this one away The Return Man down to a knee and this will come out to the 25-yard line but now Dallas gets set to take the field their lead down to a field goal now as they start with the First and Ten what's up they begin with a run by Smith and he's taken down but able to slip across the 35. 60 yards rushing on 12 carries for him now for a lot of guys playing this game there was no better feeling than running right through it back and shot his legs for a really nice pickup [Applause] a lot of scrimmage the 37 on First and 10. now Aikman looking to throw and the Chargers Rush is going to get there down he goes they over load time of the safety Blitz and he winds up being dropped for a loss of seven but just not much a quarterback can do their CD the pressure was in his face almost instantaneously led to a very quick sound they decided to go with the safety Blitz there and look if that gets picked up quarterback really has the advantage then because I have more time to throw the football and some wide open space but when it does it that's a guy who gets a free run into the backfield and oftentimes the QB ends up on his backside as he did there he finds his man complete it's Pearson so the completion results there in nine yards third and seven now so seven yards from the first down here as they come up to the line of scrimmage from the gun on third down is Aikman trouble and he's taken down [Applause] in the fourth down an assortment of sacks in this game this one the product of a good jump and terrific effort most quickly off the snap of the ball doesn't let up until he's in the backfield and impacting the quarterback foreign now comes the Cowboys Potter as he'll come on to kick this one away he's averaging just under 50 yards upon as he gets this away the call for a fair Catch and it's made at about the 23-yard line a 41-yard punt there with no return and that will come the offense as they take over [Applause] here first down Rivers and to the right side here it's Allen and he'll get to the 29-yard line brought down there let's go second and four now movement up front I think they're going to get one of the charger alignment that flag accepted and it backs the offense up a little bit [Applause] the false start hurts him there a bit backs him up to Second and nine working out of the gun Rivers and he'll go right back to Allen that's complete and he'll be taken down but not before they work it across Midfield 28 yards in the game there on the catch and run and with that last play he's now up over that 300 yard Mark and in today's NFL it almost feels routine and I hate that when you talk about a 300 yard passing game to me 300 yards still signifies excellence and he's achieved that in this performance so from Cowboy territory now here's First and Ten at the 48-yard line off the play fake here Rivers swinging this ball out here to townwood city and he'll be brought down inside the 40-yard line [Applause] just one more quarter remains in the season-long race for the Lombardi trophy here at Super Bowl 57 from Glendale you are watching the NFL on EA Sports and we're back in the Super Bowl time to decide who gets to hoist that Lombardi trophy as we begin the fourth and final 4th quarter quarter of action throwing again on second down Rivers oh he'll want that one back incomplete he doesn't drop too many in that department third down in the early days of the NFL you could easily blame these drops on maybe some uneven or uncertain Lighting in a stadium not anymore the lights are pretty good yeah they're great here at night but his second drop indeed not a good look they go play action Rivers and a throw there gonna be incomplete by certainly thought he had an open look beyond the first down marker to his receiver but they just couldn't connect and that will send them back to the drawing board so here we go maybe the biggest kick of the game forthcoming this will be from 56 yards out yeah this is no good oh by a matter of inches he missed it wide to the right and instead of tying it up they'll remain down by three the fourth quarter Miss like that there is no lonelier feeling than that kicker right now as we all know a lot of these games they come down to special teams and when that chance comes you have to perform in order to help your team get over the top could have tied it instead they remained down three [Applause] good starting position for the Cowboys here as they come up First and Ten at their own 46. now Aikman and Bryant's got it over the middle and they'll get this down to the 42-yard line well how about this aggressive approach got the lead fourth quarter continuing to throw the football are you thinking about Super Bowl 51 Atlanta had the lead against New England and they ended up giving it up I was gonna say don't say it but you did say it I did did not yeah anybody watching Atlanta are apologies man running left at Smith and they went the wrong way there losing yardage back in 43-yard line he'll lose a yard there and it's second and 11th rumblitz there defensively something we might see more of here in the fourth quarter I think we'll see a lot of it and the difference between that and a pass Blitz passport's just trying to get to the quarterback you're trying to scheme someone open who will get to the QB and make sure he gets on the ground in a run blitz you're actually trying to cover up gaps trying to cover up holes so they can't run the football so after the loss of a yard they'll look to push forward here on second down and 11. again it's Smith and he'll take it inside the 40 to the 39-yard line two runs in a row but only two yards to show for it the recipe is pretty simple I think right just give your Superstar of the ball continue to feed him yeah don't overthink this one right make sure he's touching the football but you're also counting on his intelligence and playing the game as well if it's not there don't force the run just make sure you hang on to the football and keep the clock ticking fake middle throw flushed out right and this is going to be confident they'll say out of bounds so it's incomplete trailing in the fourth this close of a game that's a penalty you just can't afford it's an absolute killer and it's one that drives coaches and teammates insane a bad time for a roughing penalty and they get the gift of a First and Ten on the give this is Doris said they'll get him to the ground at the 20 following a pickup at four I'm guessing you'd say this is kind of the key here grind out some yardage work on that clock see if you can continue to take it down definitely you want to bleed things out at this point right continue to possess the football gain some yardage you put the onus on the defense do they have to use timeouts what are they going to do to stop you you're taking charge now it's Aikman in the middle it's complete it's gonna be marked down just outside the 10. tell you what he's been able to put the ball in some tight spots all game long that throw no different yeah a lot of people would call a gutsy type of a throttle I think he looks at it as can do it so it's not that big of a deal to me I'm Gonna Keep fire so signs of life and what's been a dormant offense in this second half here's First and Ten to throw his Aikman and he wisely will throw that one away and I can see the officials kind of looking at each other down there silently wondering does this meet the level of grounding unfortunately he did have a receiver in the area but I have seen less obvious throwaways called this penalties so after the incompletion on first now second and ten they'll look to throw here to the goal line but it's incomplete and now offensively is third and ten and I'm just thinking to myself actors always say what's my motivation before a big scene right now the play callers thinking what have I done before this worked well that I can go to right now yeah because they were pretty successful in the first half scoring points haven't done anything so far here in the second half again it's Aikman and that is caught it's written for the cowboy touchdown 11-yard touchdown and the Cowboys are starting to pull away in the fourth quarter of the Super Bowl and that's certainly going to bump up the old win probability index because now it's a two-score game here in the fourth quarter yeah you're taking me into that deep water now wind popping ball the index this game's definitely not over we're not looking at a half percent or something it's just two scores but the way that this team has played to me what I've seen they absolutely deserve to win this game they've been the better team by far throughout extra point right down the middle and his guys will take a 10-point lead Bailey now to kick it away after the touchdown and this will not be returned it's a Touchback and they'll begin at the 25. the Chargers getting set to go yeah we're at the time of the Super Bowl or look they need points yeah they need them badly trailing here in the fourth quarter as they begin this drive First and Ten throwing Rivers and that oh nearly picked off but it would have been a great time for their first interception of the game instead it's second down throws like that especially where we sit in the fourth quarter he's got to be careful yeah and you know one of my faults is that I often view this game through a defensive back's eyes and in this situation your team's losing it's late tighter coverage take a chance and go and try and step in front of one of those and make a big play so if you're the quarterback that should be in your head this is their time to take a Gamble and this will be a game of five as he gets it to the 30. that might feel like a little bit of a lost opportunity there for the offense because the defense brought pressure that time and sometimes against that you can get out to your running back and it can turn into a big game downfield but what a nice job they did getting to him quickly and holding him to a short game we all need five on this play to move the sticks Rivers and the Cowboys pressure gets there this time for the SAG it'll be a loss of eight on the sack and it's going to lead him to Fourth Down I don't know what else can be said about this pass rush they have been Sensational CD that is now six sacks for them and how many times do we talk to offensive coordinators and they say a sack as a result of everyone on offense not doing their job but let's be honest about this one this is the offensive line unable to counter the password they've been teeing off on as the Chargers punter now as he'll punted away for the second time it'll be a 44-yard boot just a yard on the return as he's covered up quickly and the Cowboys will take over the football with a first and 10. Dallas offense set for this next Drive and they have been the better the two sides to this point with a two score lead fourth quarter of this Super Bowl and the Lombardi trophy within reach as they start this drive First and Ten here's Aikman setting to throw it and that is caught on the right sideline but out of bounds says the line judge the throw took him a little too far at second down his back has been dependable safety Val all game so he went back to him when his first read was covered just unable to connect so the play results in no game line of scrimmage the 31 as they line up second and ten here's a give to Smith 68 yards rushing for him now to this point Brandon I've got to think this offensive line has got some Smiles on his faces and and I know it sounds crazy but they practice for this back in training camp they knew they'd be in situations where it'd be extra defenders in the Box coming after him trying to keep them from locking down the game right now they want to show the world they're up to the challenge on play action Aikman it's a short one here complete to the tight end and he's going to be out of bounds right at Midfield first time they've looked his way in this game he comes through picking up the first and that pickup on the first down that's going to leave a mark because they really needed to stop them there didn't they it's so frustrating defensively you're a play away from getting that football back here down late tough now they've got to find a way to create a turnover or take away otherwise this one will probably get away from them from the Midfield stripe they'll look to throw left side it's dorsal breaks a tackle and he's got an alley and they're going to get this down near the 35-yard line the passing game continues to be their friend even with a stable lead here in the fourth Charles they're going back to that well yeah with their overall philosophy you know that they trust their quarterback he's been able to throw it well did he continue to throw these safe passes who can blame them [Applause] ball up to the 35 now as they come up on First and 10. now they'll throw here out of the gun and that one incomplete but now penalty flag coming in late that might be P.I so pass interference the call there always obviously Charles such a subjective call you agree with the penalty well from where we're standing right now I think officials are tightening things up here in the second half maybe a Defender gets away with that in the first but this time the flag comes out and I think it's a good call oh no he lost the football and the defense not able to get it from a defensive perspective what's that moment like when you realize the ball is loose it is a moment where all concentration goes right to the football this is something you've talked about in all your preparation for the game he probably talked about his training camp not the ball free take it away from the other team and now you have that chance is a little bit of deflation when they end up recovering it they knocked it free but couldn't take it away and all the way down inside the five to the four that'll give him 60 yards receiving now as he's got a first down normally you might say start running the football you've got the lead here in the fourth quarter but the way that they've passed it was such success I don't know maybe keep throwing it yeah I think he brought up something that goes against conventional wisdom right in this stage of the game you would think he would switch to a running attack but you're exactly right they've thrown it so well throughout the game and trusting this quarterback I think he continued to do so a good chance now to put this game on ice this is first and goal George said he'll take this into the end zone for a cowboy touchdown an important score there CD and now an important extra point because it would make it a three score game love the map there and at this point in the fourth quarter look we all need gen stats right we all use them but we don't need them here do we because that means it's almost a certain victory all right after here coming up and that'll make this a three score game as the lead moves to 17. so that drives seven plays in length and it results in a four-yard touchdown run Bailey now to kick it away after the touchdown and he'll elect not to return this one so they'll bring it out to the 25 on the Touchback this offense back out it's set to go for their next drive and it's becoming more and more apparent that this is just not going to be their night that Lombardi trophy so close but the expectations simply have not matched the results as they start on this drive First and Ten the first down throw here for Rivers and it's incomplete boy he doesn't drop many like that one second down at this point down big you'd have to imagine this defense are just going to sit back blanket the field as best they can yeah this is actually the easy part of the game for them because just as you noted they can sit back keep everything in front of them but they blanketed the field the entire game using a variety of coverages to throw once more on second and ten Rivers Allen's got it over the middle and he gets this one just shy the 40 they'll Mark him down at the 39. that'll put him over 150 yards receiving now quite a ball game and a first down those are the types of plays they probably wish they had made more of in the first three quarters and this deficit going to be tough to overcome here in the fourth but a nice first down and a pickup on that throw and this is where his coaches you're looking for effort in execution even though the scoreboard is going against you you gotta find out who's going to fight who's going to spread he's going to keep their heads up and continue to pull out give him back-to-back catches now that one for 16. and another first down you cannot write these guys off just yet not with a quarterback like that under Center you mean it actually crossed your mind with him running the team that you could actually maybe write this game off not yet not a chance not with him we've seen it too many times on First and Ten Rivers and that is caught on the right sideline but out of bounds says the line judge the throw took him a little too far it's second down offense is moving it a little bit had him back on their heels but they're in a brief Pause by forcing the incompletion that gives him a quick chance to regroup and try him out a stand before they're backed up even further on second and ten Rivers throw hands incomplete really good coverage all over the field they took away his intended read and almost dared him to try for his guy out of the backfield no surprise on that one it doesn't connect now they face a third and ten after back to back in completions Rivers again that one's complete to Tomlinson but he's going to go out of bounds but he takes this one down just shy of the 20. a pickup of 24 on the third down conversion well I can put my defensive cap on right now and I know they're saying don't give up any big plays now they've controlled this game throughout and all they want to do Victory or probably something that feels a little bit cheap but if they turn that lead down to just two scores that's still a benefit to this squad and a lot of being a Defender is being able to learn what you can and can't get away with when in man coverage in this case he got away with it it helped pop that ball free so an incomplete pass a moment ago and that leads to second and goal Rivers and this is caught by Gage for a charger touchdown a great play there his second touchdown of this Super Bowl and the Chargers have got it back to a two-score game here in the fourth comes the kicking a chance if they can somehow get this one back and the Cowboys are able to recover fourth quarter they felt like they needed the football back Unfortunately they couldn't get it and I know we brought analytics into the game and someone has said here that the data says that when a team's expecting an onside kick 80 percent of the time the team expecting it they do actually recover the ball which is what we saw here I just wonder if that number is much more of a anecdotal type of a number kind of like when the coaches tell us well when you score on special teams 93 of the time you win the game I'm still waiting to see that number is empirical first down here's hakeman wide open receiver complete they'll get this one down near the 20-yard line just shy of the 20. an excellent pickup of 20 yards well it may seem a little unorthodox to some people got the lead fourth quarter yet he's still firing away I think he believes that's the best way to go ahead and win the game yeah a lot of coaches say let's just run the football be conservative he's sticking to his game plan no that is his game and that's what they're gonna ride [Applause] well first down carry for Smith then he'll be taken down near the 20 at the 21. credit him with a one-yard gain there to make it second and nine they know that old expression it's not my night it hasn't been his so far I don't know if the legs are a little bit heavy sometimes having to hang out all day and play doesn't exactly play to your advantage but it's been a tough go for him and every time he looks up somebody's there defensively that was the same case on that play now Aikman looking to throw throwing middle and it's complete and they're going to be set up now with the ball at the 13-yard line two minutes left to play in this football game here on EA Sports so the Cowboys in possession of the football here as we get you reset they've got a third down now as they look for one more first down to help salt this one away then he gets the first down yardage he needs before he's brought down at the six and now right out of the two minute break we'll get a time-out used defensively with a minute 56 to go a good chance now to put this game on ice this is first and goal they'll try the option on first and goal and they'll be driven back here losing yardage to the 10-yard line now the Chargers will use the second of their timeouts that'll leave them with just one remaining in this fourth quarter of play another running situation on the doorstep as they come up second and ten he'll decide to keep this once more and he stopped immediately there now the defense will burn their third and final timeout as they'll head to the sideline and talk over what to do next third and goal a big play in this Super Bowl from the shotgun Aikman blocking End Zone but it's incomplete great coverage there all around really didn't have any options to throw the football very little chance that that one was going to be completed every receiver was locked up so on fourth down out trots the kicker in a big spot here from the left hand should be a fairly easy one here and his kick is good and that will extend their lead further so that not just important to the fact that it widens their lead but really that was a textbook job of just hanging on to the football and we know all the time that coaches talk about time and possession sometimes it's a stat that doesn't matter much but in this drive it matters a lot they want to reduce time and score points and lock this game down now after the field goal Bailey will kick it away Fields it right around the goal line and Beyond the 20 but not by much in fact just a yard pass there to the 21. so the Chargers now down on the scoreboard and time a huge Factor they've come so far this year but they need two quick scores late in the Super Bowl first down the rivers looking left side and it's complete and they worked this well up field across the 45. a really nice gain a 25 yards Charles he's now over 400 yards passing in this one it feels like he has a zillion completions just a very memorable effort from a guy that we thought could be in line for a big game and he has exceeded her expectations that he has and I'm not really surprised at all because when you look at this offensive unit they are loaded across the board and of course the guy throwing them he's a big time player himself they brought it from start to finish and really helped get the better of the opposing secondary when you're leading in the final quarter your radar has to be up for any potential deep shot and probably not the last one they're going to see in this game not as long as they hold this lead to throw again on second down Rivers and he will go down that winds up pushing him back 11 yards on the sack and that'll bring up third remember throughout my career here in defensive coaches always say guys you gotta earn the right to rush the passer they put themselves in a great spot with this big lead and they know they've got to throw the ball these pass rushers have to be salivating it is pin your ears back time indeed now is Sean taken on third down but it's going to wind up incomplete that means it's just one last chance left and this has to be a first down or a touchdown but this game's over desperation time rivers on fourth down it's incomplete to Jackson there he goes left side and he takes this one into the end zone and all of a sudden here in the final minute things get a little bit tighter okay game on don't go anywhere yet you got a one score game now probably gonna rely on the onside kick come out yeah they have to it's not a high percentage Club is better than not having a chance at all and that's when you put your Reapers and your flyers on one side get that high hop and hope that one of the guys can come up with it and on the other side get that hand steam ready no doubt about it extra point splits the uprights and now things get a bit more interesting here in this fourth quarter so still a chance for just over 20 seconds to go but they need to get this one back no doubt and this is going to be recovered by the hands team and that should just about put a camper on this one they had to go for it with no timeouts remaining though now this one's as good as over they gave it an effort they tried their best did everything they could to try and get the ball on the onside kick you're exactly right they had to try it it was the only option and now this game is done just take it Neil and call it a day the Dallas offense back out onto the field and they've got this one in hand no timeouts remaining defensively so this one should just be one kneel and then handshakes time for this one final knee to put a bow on this title valve is likely the final play of this game and no better feeling I would imagine than taking a knee to wrap up the Super Bowl culminates everything the championship is theirs and just the the last play they had in practice before this game began was doing this practicing taking a knee and winning a Super Bowl and they get to do just that and the Dallas Cowboys will Hoist the Lombardi trophy they are the kings of the NFL and when this moment comes I think you look back at all the Blood Sweat and Tears the off season the workouts training camp week one two three all building up now to say you're a Super Bowl champion it's worth it it certainly is and rarely do we have a team that holds the Lombardi trophy that didn't have their share of bumps along the way didn't have to face some adversity in the journey and now they get to just enjoy it and revel in it and all off season they'll be signing their autographs with Super Bowl champion underneath it thanks foreign [Applause]
