Rice Stadium ladies and gentlemen welcome back to another college football stadium video today we're going to be looking at some college football stadiums that are simply too big they never sell out the university whoever is there they're not selling enough tickets based on how big the capacity is and it gives off an overall Hollow Vibe of the stadium so we're going to be kicking it off with number one or these aren't even an order I'm just this is definitely number one though it's rice Stadium rice Stadium might be the worst college football stadium that exists right now it's terrible the renovation it got where they added on like some crappy library or at least that's what it looks like behind one of the end zones is pathetic and they've gone so far with how bad the attendance is at Rice Stadium the capacity is 70k which is just ridiculous for Rice who hasn't been good or relevant in Forever they'll tarp off sections right behind the end Zones look at how bad that looks man um whenever you bring out the tarps it gets real bad you can't bring out the tarps especially behind the end zones the overall state it kind of reminds me of Minnesota Stadium a little bit at least the upper deck it's just very Bland the exterior of it is horrible it's a very old stadium that's honestly best known for one of JFK's famous speeches that he gave in the 1960s he gave it here at Rice stadium so rice Stadium there's really no renovations I would make to it outside of demolishing it and building rice a nice new smaller Stadium realistically this is how crazy this is this stadium has a capacity of 70k if they were to build a new stadium for Rice I would say the cap capacity would probably be around 30k so it would be a a minus 40,000 in terms of total seating capacity I mean look at South Florida they're building a new stadium with a capacity of 35k and rice is in a very similar boat in terms of where those programs are either way rice stadium is the most obvious example of a stadium that is just way too big they never sell this out not not even on opening night never uh just because the capacity is so big and rice never plays any uh you know meaningful football games the next Rose Bowl stadium that is too big it is the Rose bull now obviously this comes with the cavat that it's the rose bow they're not going to remove seating we know this Stadium the unique aspect of it hosting the Rose Bowl it's very magical but when it hosts UCLA football which is by the way like 90% of its job the rose bull does have a capacity of 92,000 of course the big issue with UCLA they haven't been that great recently it's California it's great weather there's a lot of things to do other than go to a UCLA game and and really the other Prime with UCLA they've got a lot of Day games which is a big issue especially early in the season with how hot it gets the rose bow is a little r frying pan there is no covering and and the other thing with UCLA they're kind of it's just a bad situation like do you renovate this Stadium you really can't like like it's cool that you play at the Rose bow but it's clear that this Stadium does not suit where UCLA football is right now so it's kind of like a double-edged sword and the stadium certainly needs Renovations I just think people are scared to renovate it because it is Iconic and look I'm not saying Ed seating or anything like that I'm saying just upgrade the seating upgrade the exterior make it look better and and that you know look at the Rose bull during a UCLA game sometimes there's tarps up it's never a sellout it it's just way too big of a capacity there's another good reference like if UCLA were to build their own stadium right now there is zero chance the capacity would be 92k it would probably be like 55k honestly significantly less so that's another one the next one that's just a little bit too big is also in California it is the LA Memorial Coliseum now they did reduce capacity decently the capacity is down to 77k after UCLA's major renovation onto the one sidel line where they removed a bunch of seats like a giant wall of seats they removed and they put in you know that massive Suite section all those little small seats things like that that used to be just a giant wall of seats the Coliseum originally was just one giant bull of of seats they've changed it but still USC even in their biggest home games they struggle to totally sell them out and you can see several different photos where there are a lot of people there but still there's there's those empty seats at the end it will be interesting this year because it's very clear that USC will be hosting some big games will they be able to actually fully sell out the Coliseum these Renovations were also made prior to the Olympics so there's renderings for the future Olympics that that are going to be taking place in La so that's about 5 years away from now but this stadium for USC at this point even with Caleb Williams even with Lincoln Riley they cannot sell it out so it's abundantly clear it is I would say about 10 to 15,000 seats too big when it comes Spartan Stadium to that the next stadium that is too big I'm going to go with Spartan Stadium so Spartan Stadium has a capacity of around 75k and when Mark Antonio was there when Michigan state was rolling sure they would fill at most games but now you're really seeing the attendance PRS with Michigan State Spartan Stadium I remember they hosted Ohio State last year the thing wasn't even close to full sometimes they don't even even have the upper deck open during the games like late in the season and Michigan State clearly right now is not in a good place I just think they like Michigan state 75k is a lot of people and I know Michigan State's kind of in that weird place where they think they're an elite program and other people don't think they're a lead and it's kind of hit or miss with them certainly with dantonio they had several really good years they Str together uh a nice little run there but since then it's been super inconsistent they had the one good year with Mel Tucker he totally bombed last year and then you've got the total mess this year I really think Michigan state would be suited with a stadium that that's like you know maybe 60k in terms of capacity which is 15,000 less seats than they have right now mainly due to the very poor Upper Deck attendance they've been receiving the last four or five years they've struggled to sell out pretty much every game outside of a few different ones including the Michigan game of course they're always going to sell that game out but other than that it is noticeable when you see it Spartan Stadium maybe built a little bit too big especially when Michigan state is in these down years the next one it is the Alamo Dome so this is kind of a weird situation the Alamo Dome was actually originally built for an NFL expansion team in San Antonio know that expansion team never came and now you have the Elmo Dome playing host to UTSA yes the University of Texas San Antonio football obviously it is way too big for UTSA you could also throw in UNLV at Allegiance Stadium but that really I mean they're just like tenants so so I wouldn't really you know use that as an example but yeah the Alamo Dome in terms of atmosphere just not good there's been a few times where they've brought the dreaded curtain down you know Cur enough the entire upper deck for UTSA home games it's just a bad atmosphere it is what it is the stadium was built with a capacity for NFL games if you're going to be hosting a group of five team we know the result is not going to be pretty it's going to be a bunch of empty seats and that's exactly what it is moving on to the next one it is SECU Stadium home of Maryland and I don't know if the capacity is necessarily too big on this one so the capacity is 51k I just think it's the design of this Stadium now looking at the one side it looks like you guys know Levi Stadium that has all the Suites like four or five straight decks of of suets on top of each other it seems like they did do a renovation there and added that in but the other side is just this weird eyesore that looks completely unbalanced it's this giant Upper Deck that's cut off and I'm not like this is a stadium where I guess Maryland the capacity of 50k it's not Terri terrible but because of the way it's presented with the giant Upper Deck when they don't sell out games which is most games you get hit with just this ugliness of these empty seats in the upper deck and it is a terrible thing to look at they need a total Stadium reconstruction is what they need and they need to put seats take them out of the upper deck and put them behind one of the end zones because the stadium is completely unbalanced right now at least that's how I see it when it comes to Maryland so Maryland their stadium is really not talked about a lot I'm not a fan of it at all they need a huge renovation maybe I'll do a video on College stadiums that need Renovations I can say right now the rosull needs a renovation uh SECU Stadium which is this one needs a renovation and maybe I mean the capacity at 51k it's not that much but it's just the way it's presented and also Maryland does really struggle to sell it out I mean they virtually never sell it out even in their game against Ohio State last year late in the season there was decent attendance but they did not sell it out cuz I remember that game specifically and then this last one this is kind of the wild card so it was announced that Nebraska Memorial Stadium will be undergoing a $400 million renovation and they're removing 10,000 seats off of their southern end zone there's two walls of seating they're going to completely remodel them and when it comes to them doing this they're bringing the capacity down I believe under 880,000 and you might be wondering Nebraska they're the team with that massive sellout streak why would they be doing that well guys they really struggled to keep that sellout streak throughout the past four or five years because they've been so bad the boosters have had to buy up some of the tickets to maintain that sellout streak so they're trying to limit the capacity to keep that sellout streak and also I do agree the two walls of seats behind both of the end zones it is an obsolete design it really is so what they're doing is a good thing with that renovation do they need to limit the seating I mean not really honestly no like even if you don't sell out games it's not like you need to limit the seating if you're drawing 82,000 instead of 87,000 that's not that big of a deal but they are limiting the seating a little bit reducing the seating so I thought I would throw that on this list of stadiums that are simply right now just too big for whatever reason so guys that is going to do it for this video make sure you're following me on X link to that's always in the description
