[Music] this is fed music [Music] n [Music] [Music] [Music] all right everybody what is going on and welcome to today's edition of Swag talk the show we cover the swag inside and out I'm your tour gu around the swag SE Wells coming at you and we have had our first game of the season man this is just a best time week zero Mex swag challenge took place and it was a heck of a game we're going to talk about it um we're going to go through the stats and everything and I'm share my thoughts on the game and you know just you know just glad that we are in actual football season man so everything you know all the predictions all the talking all that is out the way now it's time for actual football and just looking at the season ahead so with that being said man y hit those socials Facebook and swag talk Instagram Swag talk Twitter swag talk 76 uh we have had our first um our first week of our our swack pick them contest I I'll I'll have the up the stats and everything on my Twitter account um I will have the new uh form for week one up today um so you can you know if you want to get down on that link will be in the description also like I said it'll be on my on my Facebook Twitter and Instagram um there are three Thursday Gam so if you want to get full credit for the whole week you have to have your picks in by I'm G say like four o'clock on Thursday um if you're missed the Thursday games you still want to play Saturday and Sunday that's cool um you know you know you can you can you can run it like that but you miss out on having the full amount of points each week if you miss some games so um it's it's important to get it in by the deadline and that so you can get full credit for your picks uh you don't want to come up short at the end of the season we work working on having a prize um like we we we trying to I think we're going to have like a championship belt for the winner so once we get that more laid out you you'll get those details in the next share comment your thoughts on the game and you know just the Outlook from this point forward um of where things stand so let's go ahead and jump into this man we're gonna um we're gonna kind of do like like I like to do I kind of like to run through the box score and share my thoughts um of the game a as we get to certain aspects of it first and foremost I thought the first quarter North Folk State I thought they had a great great first quarter um running the ball extremely well well um you know long you know long touchdown run 82 yards um more more successful runs in in the first quarter but one thing that stood out to me about them in the first quarter especially was I don't know if it was the the the temps the heat uh conditioning or whatever but they had some guys go down early um a lot of guys couple guys threw up you know which is always just something I don't like to see I don't like to see people throw up at all NFC guys throw up on the field and you know right on the sideline it's just like you know is one of those things that you know no matter how much you know how much you know how much you see it still just one of them things I just don't like um but I thought they played a a great first quarter fam you kind of you know was kind of finding yourself you know just really not really making a lot of mistakes but not really playing you know great either but you know as fam you started to settle in especially on offense that started to change the landscape of the game um once fam you started to be a to move the football that put a lot of pressure on North Folk defensively to get stops and then that made their offense have to maintain what they were doing um it's one thing to control the ball and control the clock but once the other team starts to kind of put some pressure on you have to be able to continue to do that and I thought the second quarter on I thought Northfolk kind of kind of lost a little bit team obviously they they were able to get back in it late and and score but they just you know really I think fam you had control of the game after a certain point and you know it wasn't pretty it wasn't pretty but this has kind of been what the blueprint F you was all last season take that punch take that punch be resilient you know that that's that's you know that's the mark of a champion team that's the mark of a champion culture um taking shots responding and you know over overcoming and prevailing you know it doesn't really matter how it looks you just want to get that win at the end of the game so you know I thought they took I thought they took nor Folk's best punch and again I figured that this would be a team that wouldn't go down easy they had six one score losses last season so they weren't GNA quit and they you know they showed that but you know they they still have some things in that Arsenal that they don't have full control over um I think they're a team that needs to be out in front to to be comfortable um but once fam was able to start to move the ball I think they kind of shifted the momentum of the game and I thought they kind of shifted The Way North Folk attacked and and as fam you started to kind of slow it down a little bit they they were able to get themselves in in in in the lead and then just basically hold them off but let's look let's look at the scoring summary North Folk State they started off with a bang uh they got a 82 yard run from Kon King with um 1318 left in the first quarter that that kept a three playay 91 yard drive that took 137 off the clock extra point was good seven to nothing Spartans Le at that point um Jaylen Daniels got a one yard run with 349 left in the first quarter that kept a 12 Play 73 yard drive it took 647 off the clock and at that point Northfolk Le 14 to nothing um and if you look think about the last time Family you was in Atlanta against Howard they trail that game 14 and nothing in the first quarter and wa were to come back and same thing here um not quite as smooth but they were able to kind of scratch and Claw and then FAMU got on the board um with 55 seconds left in the first quarter when Thad Franklin caught a 20 yard pass from Daniel Richardson uh Gillis extra point good that kept a seven Place 75 yard drive that took 254 off the clock scores 14-7 at that point uh with 1102 left in the second quarter made a 33 yard field goal to make the score um 10 14- 10 that kept a five play 31 yard Drive they took 223 off the clock and 14- 10 would be our halftime score uh second second half got started fam you scored in the third quarter with 1237 left in the in the in the third when Gasson caught a 55 yard pass from Richardson extra point good that kep the five play 82 yard drive that took 219 off the clock fam you L at that point 17 14 grandon Willcox would get the Spartans back on the board and tie the game up at 17 with 904 left in the third um with a 29 yard field goal that CT a six Place 63 yard drive that took 333 off the clock so we going to late portions of the third quarter TI of 17 fam you will get another connection from gasset from Richardson to GID um this time from nine yards out extra point good that c the 10 play 75 yard Drive drive it took 537 off the clock um 24- 17 and then with 629 left in the game uh Kon King will get a two- yard run uh to cap a nine play 73 yard drive that took 502 off the clock uh 2423 at that point uh Northfolk went for two and they didn't get it and FAMU would um basically hold on um they would basically hold on at that point um to to get the win so when you look at like the late portions after Northfolk scored their scored their final touchdown um FAMU would get the ball they would get the ball with um 621 left in the game and they would basically Drive the ball down to the North Folk 12 yard line and run the clock out so they had a a tremendous end of the end of the game drive game ceiling Drive um and that's something that I think you may not have seen from that team last year the ability to just grind it out like I said it started off at first and 10 uh they they they picked up uh they didn't they didn't get anything on first down uh second down they they threw a pass um for six yards third down they come they picked up the first down with a six yard pass um first and 10 at the 37 they picked up two yards on run second and eight from the 39 they ran for 18 up the middle to the North Folk 43 um then they had a four yard run um to the North Fork 39 followed by a um a four yard run to the north 35 that at that point there was two minutes left um with two minutes um they threw a a pass incomplete North Folk was off siid and they had a pass interference which put them um at the North Folk 24 on First and 10 and from there they were able to just run the ball eight yards on first down um seven yards on on second down and then they ran then they then they near the clock out so that's a great game ending drive like I said you get the ball back with 621 on the clock and you never allow the other team to get the ball again um cuz that you know a lot of times that's that's a couple more possessions in a game but they were able to um hold that ball for the last six minutes of the game and and that's how you slam the door on somebody um that's the that's that's a winning you know that's a winning thing that's a winning culture that's a winning strategy you know when you're able to do that that changes the perspective of everything and the fourth quarter only had two possessions um FAMU had the last one North Folk had the first one so it was a very very very short uh fourth quarter possession wise and and honestly the second half was kind of kind of short possession wise um f Northfolk had the ball once in the third quarter well twice in the third quarter and once in the fourth quarter so they had three possessions FAMU had the ball uh four times in the third in the second half four three in the third quarter one in the fourth quarter so it was a pretty you know pretty fast moving game um North Folk like I said they they they were able to really do their damage in the first quarter honestly um they had a 91 yard drive on their first drive a 73 yard drive and then they picked up 13 yards in the in at the end of the first quarter a second second quarter only they at 52 yards two yards then minus two uh third quarter 63 yards 19 yards and then in the fourth quarter 73 yards so they did the bulk of that damage um in the third in the four first quarter and then on that long drive in the uh in the fourth quarter so you know not not not a lot there you know they they didn't have a lot of opportunities um but they they took advantage of the of the bulk of the opportunities they did score um they did score on on on on four their possessions so they did they did what they could I think the game plan was to kind of you know make it a quicker game you know run the ball control the clock um fam you you know they they struggled early trying to kind of get get themselves right but they you know they scored on their second possession so they didn't necessarily they didn't necessarily not get anything done it looked it looked worse because North Folk jumped on them 14 to nothing and you know after giving up a big play to score um you you you you pick up a first down then you end up punting you know but then your next drive you did score and then the next drive that you you kick the field goal so you know you you kind of had some momentum then you would lose it and then you would punt two straight times but then you would score touchdowns on your next two possessions so you know you had you had one fumble uh in the in the third quarter when you were um when you were driving you were down to the Northfolk 27 and and you and you fumble um that's you know that that's the kind of stuff you kind of see in the first game but I thought FAMU played you know I thought they played they didn't play I don't think they played as bad as it kind of look um like I said them first couple drives for North Folk really changed the trajectory and the perception of the game but from that point on I think fam you had control statistically the Ratt was 22 first downs six on the ground 15 through the AR one through penalty Northfolk 15 first downs nine on the ground four through the air and two by penalty 117 yards rushing for FAMU uh 26 attempts uh four uh 4.5 yards per carry no touchdowns finished with um 128 yards that 14 117 excuse me that 117 was net they had 128 lost 11 nor folk finished with 227 yards on the ground 40 43 carries 5.3 yards per carry and three touchdowns so as you can see they really wanted to run the ball and they were very successful um 5.3 yards for carry all those numbers very very very much eclipsed the number that family gave up on the ground last season um in in all aspects um 286 yards through the air for the rers 22 of 31 uh three touchdowns no interceptions uh North Folk State 142 through the air seven of nine um no touchdowns no interceptions only nine pass attempts so like I said they really really wanted to run the ball and they committed hard to that uh 403 yards total offense for the rattles on 57 plays 7.1 yard per play they did fumble twice they lost one they had five penalties for 47 yards nor folk 369 total offense on 52 plays 7.1 yards per play they fumbled three times didn't lose any uh five penalties for 31 yards so not a highly penalized game only 10 penalties for 78 yards between the two teams uh FAMU punted three times 126 yards with a 42 yard average two punts inside the 20 two punts Fair caught nor folk punted three times as well 12 five yards 41.7 yards per punt they had one punt that was fair caught um kickoff returns fam you average 19 pun returns fam you average 19 yards per return North Folk didn't have a return kickoff returns FAMU average 20.3 yards per turn return North Fork eight time of possession 28 minutes and 56 seconds for the Rattler Spartans 3104 four of eight on third down for FAMU 6 of 11 for North Folk so both team were really solid on third down 0 for one for uh North Folk on fourth down F you didn't didn't attempt a fourth down three or four in the red zone for the rers three or four in the red zone for the Spartans fam you had um two sacks on the night none for North Folk uh three of three extra points for fam two or two for Northfolk uh North Folk 0 for one on um two-point conversion both teams made the only field goal attempt individually Daniel Richardson 22 of 30 for 286 yards three touchdowns no interceptions had a longer 55 uh Jaylen Daniels 7 of n 142 yards no touchdowns no interceptions longer 49 he was sacked twice Kelvin Dean 11 carries for 49 yards 14 yard was his long four and a half yard per carry average fad franklin8 for 38 longer 18 4.8 car uh eight yards per carry Daniel Richardson three for 32 with a long of 17 average 10.7 yards per carry for norol Kon King 14 carries 146 yards two touchdowns average 10.4 yards per carry with the 82 y uh Z zavon Evans 12 carries for 55 yards uh long of 23 4.6 yards per carry Kiron Benjamin 6 for 33 10 yard was his long five and a half yards per carry Daniels had nine for five due to sacks receiving gasset Le family with eight catches for 110 yards and two touchdowns at a long of 55 Kobe gross three for 45 longer 27 Thad Franklin three for 39 and a touchdown with a longer 20 Jaylen Rogers three for 28 longer 14 Jaylen Ward uh two for 26 with long of 15 Carter Johnson one for 22 Levante Somerset two for 16 with a long of 11 uh the Spartans were led by jqu Jones he had four catches for 78 yards longer 41 Cameron Thomas two for 57 with a longer 49 and Elijah Mitchell one for seven defensively fam you was led by Andre Pow with eight tackles also Deco Wilson had eight tackles Kendall bowler with seven uh Eric horn with six uh nron Jenkins with six uh brillan Oliver had five jayron Fox had four tackles for loss uh Jenkins had one and a half West Morland Gardner and Ash each had a half a tackle for loss a piece sacks Jenkins had one West Morland and Gardner each had a half a sack a piece Force fumbles there weren't any recorded no interceptions nor was led in tackles by AJ Richardson with nine uh Tariq miles had seven dalen long had six Ricky hon had six as well uh Sage buer Irvine had five jayen Smith had five and Kean Lynch had five tackles for loss Lynch had one and a half and berer Irving had a half a tackle for loss uh no sacks on the night Force fumbles were by long and Jacobs uh no rec recovery was by Lynch no interceptions breakups went to hon and and Allen so pretty you know like I said not a not a really uneven game you know other than like I said North Folk having you know they had a pretty big Edge on the ground a family had a big Edge through the air but all in all the game kind of evened out a little bit uh nor folk like I said they had those big plays early uh they just couldn't with they just couldn't maintain um that that big the big plays after that FAMU was able to take that punch and and kind of find find themselves and and you know that's the kind of thing that you kind of you kind of see in a in a um that those are the kind of things you you you see in a first game you know you sometimes you have a team that jumps out on the other team and you know things look Bleak but they didn't they didn't give up and and that that's all you can really ask for um up next for the Rattlers is a home game on Saturday at 6 PM Eastern 5:00 pm Central against South Carolina state so they continue their their M um their little their M Journey um and we'll we'll preview that game um on on on Wednesday as we as we go into our early season week one preview so um rless you know back at it again you know another another tough tough opponent another opponent that's going to want to run the ball at him and like I said we'll talk more about that game um during the week um again we have our week one pickham uh the the link will be up um probably sometime this evening so if you want to go ahead and get in on that
