EA College Football Simulations Game 20 Miami University @Northwestern (8/31/24 Prediction)

[Music] welcome to Evon Illinois ryanfield and home to the Northwestern Wildcats where it will be a sea of purple as the fans are more than ready for this one we've got a sensational matchup for you fans have been filing in and getting ready for this game as we'll see a squad from the ma the Miami Ohio Red Hawks taking on a team from the Big 10 the Northwestern Wildcat for EA Sports college football I'm Rees Davis joined here in the booth by David poock and Jesse Palmer and guys let's get this thing started Northwestern as the kickoff team on the field as we are about ready to start from inside his own 10 he'll try to help out their field position not a lot of space to be found good Hustle by the coverage team and they stop him at the 21 the Red Hawks offense is on the field for the first time today there he is the man who makes everything go and they believe they're going to score every time they touch it when he's on the field Jesse he plays with unbelievable confidence re always knows where to go with the football the entire Playbook is at this guy's disposal yeah which is so much fun for a coach so much fun to play with him a guy that can do everything everybody on the field is active in a weapon picked up two yards on that last one they need eight on second down looking for a physical attack from the gun tackled but he has a first down man that was a good run but it was almost even better great job by the offense keep the running game going you get big chunks Like This Not only was that a big chunk it also looked like it could have gone for more there will snap this one from the 32 it's first down the give to the back and he's a real Nowhere Man tackled in this no gain land great team defense on that one play everybody doing their job people winning their one-on ones D linemen staying in their gaps linebackers and DBS filling you just can't do it better they got nothing on the last play it's second and 10 two the air it's gabber a little screen to the running back they're able to get him stopped just shy of the first down marker there's a lot of different ways this offense can attack you throwing the ball one of them is getting the running back going and the screen is a great way to get him lathered up and get the defense starting to think about him a little bit more now they've got it at the 41 third and short trying to keep the change moving he'll do it himself they finally make the stop but the big run is plenty to move those sticks for the first down what do you do now if you're on defense I mean not only do you have to worry about this specific running back on this offense and what he can do to hurt you but you got this quarterback as well it is such a dangerous one-w punch they're going to be giving opposing defenses nightmares down the road he'll come out throwing on first down find just tight end they make the stop trying to pick up just a little bit of the time to get to that first down marker the modest gain on the completion really shows why you want to run the Zone make them execute and rally to the ball 100% Zone eyes on the quarterback I see him throw the football break on it go make tackles live to fight another down power football with the Run wrestled to the ground after picking up the first down well the defense knew coming into this one it was going to be a physical game guys are going to have to be great the point of attack and get off blocks and make tackles it couldn't stop the offense from picking up that first down on that run play and the Red Hawks will snap it on First and 10 they go to the ground he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple man what a spectacular play by that defensive end to come up with the tackle there and you see those guys get off the football so fast most of these guys are 250 50 to 275 lbs but they get off the ball fast low and the offensive linemen they have no chance to stop those guys as quick and as fast as they are throws to the wide out he's open on the right he's run out of bounds but a big play on that one and it'll be a first down just outstanding execution continuing to work his way back through the football yeah and everything about this route looks vertical the comeback looks like it's a go I'm thinking speed and then he sets it down QB puts the ball on the money and he makes the play he'll pull it on the read a solid pick up there before the defense is able to make the stop how easy was that I I mean when you got a quarterback that can run designed runs like this and and get you five plus yards just and make it look that easy God it makes it really hard for the defenses to stop operating in the Red Zone here on second down and the laundry drops as the pass Falls incomplete let's see who the penalty on so the decision has been made and the coach will take the penalty offense gets set for second down back to pass it's gabber he's got it on the run and he'll make his way out of B B after the solid pick up nice job there good timing between the QB and the wide receiver executing that out rout tight quarters deep in the Red Zone but they can't pick up a first down without scoring third down wants to go up top got his man quickly touchdown Red Hawks what a grab and go for the score they just took the air out of that thing that might be an understatement they took the ball away and just wore down just grinded away at that defense and took a lot of time off the clock in the process as well I'm impressed with the physicality up front of this offense cuz that's where it all starts if you're going to March the ball down the field like they just did you've got to be dominating in the trenches and they are doing that in this game right now lining up to tack one more onto that lead and the pat makes it 7 nothing they put it in the end zone with a 12pl scoring drive and they finish things off with an eight- yd toss for the score about to kick it off after punching it in for the touchdown on the move from inside is five not a lot of space to be found good Hustle by the coverage team and they stop him at the 21 so the Northwestern Wildcats offense will have its first possession of the game both of these defenses David anchored by star middle backers I mean they're just Stars right in the middle of the defense you'll see them go sideline to sideline and they will make plays all over the field yeah these guys are the heart Souls of their defense they're the leaders everybody looks up to them they're constantly making plays man those are frustrating cuz you know you're supposed to catch that you're supposed to secure it it's going to happen but it's just frustrating for those receivers just tap the chest my bad dog and here comes the offense on second down he's looking to throw he'll lost one deep down the left side and that pass is caught at the 25 spot they're able to keep him out of the end zone he'll be stopped at the two after the big play in the passing game well after that last play you can see how electrifying this guy is and how special he is after he makes the catch if I'm on offense I'm trying to find a lot of ways to get him touches in this game after that big play they're trying to pay it off right on the goal line the snap sets up to throw lets it go to the end zone and he's got it touchdown wild cats that dude's really big how in the world did they lose him is down here he does a lot of blocking you play a lot of man coverage in the red zone and what do you do peek in the back field and you lose the big I don't know how he lost that big of a guy but he lost [Music] once now they'll line up for what they hope is automatic splits those uprights right in half quick strike offense on that three-play scoring drive and it was finished off with a two- yd touchdown pass after that latest answerer tied things up just about set to kick it away again he'll bring it back from inside to spot and the coverage team able to make the tackle guys we'll see what this Red Hawks offense can get done this time Jesse looking to take it down the field for back-to- back touchdowns I think it's really important for them moving forward too to have a lot of balance he hurls one deep down the left side man it's slips through his fingers incomplete that would have been a huge game if he could have held on you don't get a lot of chances like that in games guys take shots downfield and when you get open you got to finish the play and the wide out's going to wish he had that that one back now it's second and 10 from the 15 from the shotgun they'll run it ran to that daylight to pick up six to the [Music] 22 how bold will they be on third down after that last run to the air it's gabber finds the tight end tackle is made but not until he gets the first down that's just a very easy comfortable throw for the quarterback he knows he has his big Target the tight end running across the field on the drag nice play the Red Hawks have it with a first and 10 looking to move it through the air gets it out quickly and he'll step out of bounds after a very productive play quarterbacks love the short passing game early in games because it really helps them get into a rhythm so nice job by the offensive coordinator giving his quarterback an easy throw something he can see and something that he knows he can complete the completion short of the sticks it's second down out of the shotgun they go to the ground and he's brought down at the 40 yd line and that'll be a first down this is a guy that can find you the hidden yardage that play he just pushes the pile to get that first in and the RedHawks have their offense in high gear they'll give it to him again he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three don't you love energetic defenses that fly around that make things happen the ones that get in the back field the running back tries to go some where do you want them to go there there is nowhere to go nice job by the defense creating the tackle for a loss on first down last play was a near disaster now dealing with second and 13 trying play action got it on the outside it's McDonald you know these throws to the perimeter of the field can be so tricky for a quarterback you've got to be pinpoint accurate and have great timing you didn't see it there from the [Music] QB seventh play of the drive coming up but a long way to go on third down looking downfield and he needs a bunch and it's intercepted a turnover for the defense and they'll drag him down after a good return on the interception and the senior just took that one out of the air and sends it the other way and when it's third and so long it's very predictable I'm bringing more DBS on the field I'm bringing more speed I know you're going to pass the football offenses have to be aggressive they have to take shots they did it there the defense makes the big [Music] play the Northwestern offense returns to the field boy David they would love to stack another touchdown on top of that last drive and this offense did such a good good job on the last Drive everything in Rhythm moved the ball down the field didn't make those mistakes Jesse and they need to do it again on this one yeah you're right they had the defense on their heels you wonder what sort of communication was going on that sideline what sort of changes were they able to make cuz they got to stop the bleeding right now Northwestern right back to the line they're going to go right back to him on first down determined effort to pick up six and get it inside the Red Zone and down to the 16 6yd pickup on first down leaves him with second and four the playaction fake just had to get rid of that one good job to fight another play that's a good decision by the quarterback I know that's not going to come up on the stat sheet when you're in the pocket nobody's open Don't risk turning it over just throw it away couldn't find his man last time now they'll have to convert third and four from the gun wants to pass oh they really could have used that catch their physical pass defense it brings up a fourth down after that incompletion it's now fourth and short in the Red Zone decision time if you're the head coach you just take the field goal or do you keep your offense on the field looking to get six and they decide to trot out the kicker the holder will put it down on the right Hash a 33 yd try it is good and with that they've taken the lead [Music] [Music] so after the made field goal they'll kick it away and rely on their defense and he takes this from inside the five he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 Miami Ohio has it back the Red Hawks offense heads to the field they'll try the Run didn't find a lot of room let's give him two out to the 20 after picking up a couple at second and eight to throw it's gabber had the pick in his hands and couldn't hang on and you just won't see that from him very often it'll be third down man this quarterback is living dangerously right now guys of course we're only in the first quarter this guy's already thrown one pick he should have thrown his second right there a third and long coming up here he's looking to throw going to try to pop one on the screen didn't have much room to run and not a whole lot of help short gain there still plenty of ground to cover for the first down it's a nice effort by the running back but in that third and long situation just too much work for that running back to convert that third down really nice job got to give the defense credit the surrounded him got him in the G the Red Hawks will bring the punt team onto the field the punt going to get his first work of the afternoon not going to risk a return here calls for the fair Catch and makes it just around the 30 yd line Wildcats have it back the Northwestern offense headed out the give from the gun running with power dragged down after a pick up of five out to the 35 and as an offensive coordinator you don't need the perfect play with this guy as your running back he's going to make the play perfect for you because he makes everybody miss spin moves hurdles stiff Farms speed whatever it takes to move the sticks and score touchdowns Northwestern wants to go quickly they'll keep it on the ground just sort of a Relentless run getting everything that was available to him and they'll Mark him down at the 40 just a simple power play again not sexy run the ball up the middle physicality offensive line gets to assert themselves run block what they love to do this pays dividends down the road in the fourth quarter lining up trying to convert this third and short from the 40 they'll try to run for it brought down to the ground but he has enough for the first down basic run plays I don't I don't need a bunch of complicated stuff sometimes I just need to get the first down and get the sticks moving Northwestern comes to the line with a fresh set of downs they'll switch it up here and look to throw makes the grab it's Gordon I'll tell you I love the play call on first down here you're just trying to find an easy completion and the shortest throw on the field for the quarterback is finding your biggest Target and that's the tight end nice job that last completion has them set up second and short they'll Run play action going to take a shot got it in stride inside the 20 and they'll finally bring him down after he rips off a huge play how about that start this dude is INF Fuego over a 100 yds receiving already you could tell there's a matchup they like and they're going to exploit it continuing to feature this wide receiver who's just chewing up yards they'll run it out of the shotgun there to stop him after a pick up of three it's down to the [Music] 15 got three on first down it's second and seven just feeds to running back able to get one down to the [Music] 15 if they can convert here that type of play can really give you a shot of momentum trying to move the sticks on third down through the air and that's incomplete a Defender all over him knocked the ball to the ground fourth down coming up man they just couldn't find a hole down in the Red Zone the field shrinks so much harder to complete those passes but fourth and short now decision time baby and on fourth down they'll try to put three on the board splits the uprights good [Music] [Music] so the kickoff team is out there ready to boot it away after putting up a field goal let's see what the defense can do here he comes from inside his own five nice job by the kickoff team everybody stayed in their lanes and they'll stop him at the 16 the Miami Ohio offense returns to the field wants to throw on first down caught over the middle it's Daniel and he's able to shed one tackle and pick up pretty good yardage I'll tell you when you got a tight end like this it makes it a lot easier calling pass plays on first down even if the defense is in zone coverage he did a really good job there working his leverage finding the soft spot and making it an easy completion little bit more to go after that last completion they'll try to pick it up on second down going downfield for the big play it's complete ay huge pickup and they'll do more than move the chains they'll move that thing more than 30 yards down the field before he's finally stopped that kind of play will put a jolt into a drive it's first and 10 from just inside the 40 leaves it with the back they finally get him on the ground with the big running play moves to change for the first down you ain't getting by all these guys right up the middle unless your offensive line and your tight ends and everybody is putting in the work up front committing to blocking the running back does a great job fing the hole exploding through how about that nice big huge game if on the OC let's call that one again and it's incomplete if you're going to take a hit like that you might as well hang on to the ball now on second down they'll throw again after the incompletion what a job to lay out and make the catch let me tell you this senior quarterback can flat fit it in a tight window we have the early makings of a quarterback duel as these stats will show you [Music] heading in the opposite directions now as we Crank It Up in the second and the Red Hawks getting set on First and 10 they'll leave it with him they pick up half of it it'll be second and five going to work in the Red Zone they can't pick up the first down without getting it into the end zone looking to throw it's gabber got his man down the middle that completion will take it close to the 5 yd line they'll mark it at the six I coach said you'll never go broke taking a profit take what's there take the positive yards and never complain they love to pick up this third down and get a fresh set with first and goal on Third and short they'll try to pick it up with the pass he caught it and I like it third down and short and this offense stays aggressive and now they're set up forget the field goal we're not looking for three now now set up in a first and goal trying to get a touchdown the RedHawks trying to pay off the threat on first and goal movement here from the tight end they're going to run it into the end zone he goes touchdown Miami Precision blocking up front created the open Lane and the running back followed it beautifully yeah I it's pretty easy to follow an offensive line that makes those holes and just gives you a caravan all the way to the end zone what an unbelievable job blocking up front [Music] lining up for the Pat and the extra point gives him the lead of 1413 an 84 yd drive there and they capped it off with a one yd plunge almost ready to kick it away after scoring the touchdown he'll start the return inside his five really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 the Northwestern offense returns to the field the inside handoff tried to move that pile forward he maybe gets two he's down at the 21 the Run one game just has not been working for this offense all game long you saw it on that last play as well just not getting enough push up front on the offensive line they haven't been physical enough and the wild cats want to move quickly on second down wants to throw it the short hands it's play he's close to the first down but they're going to Mark him just a little short well nice completion there finding the tight end and what's so beautiful about that is while they didn't get the first they were able to pick up enough yards now to make the third down manageable really putting this offense in a good position fairly manageable distance here on third down from the 27 they'll try to move the chains on the ground he's going to have enough to pick up the first down as they stop him at the 33 yd line yeah and it's so nice don't overthink it right just hand it off get the first down new set of downs let's go with the first down they'll put it in play from the 33 might as well give it to him again couldn't find his way out of his grasp it's hard to run on a defense that comes off the ball like that and runs to the football like that good luck no holes anywhere got stuffed on first down it's second and 10 on the ground it's Porter they ripped off seven on that one now a third down and three [Music] linebackers trying to create some confusion now staring at a third and short from the 40 looking to throw for it throwing right he makes a catch he's got enough to move the chains and they'll spot it at the 47 and listen you get Zone coverage and you can hit that curl route and he comes open continually keep hitting it this might be a play to come back to and the Wildcats are on the Move comes out throwing on first down incompleted man is he lucky to get that one back defense that close to an interception oh that hit him in a bad spot right in the hands great play you still get a pass break up but man that could have been an interception by the defender there nice break on the football but secure that big F get the six get the pick six off the play fake just a short pass to the tight end and he goes out of bounds after a nice pick up on that one it's so important that this offense is able to stay on schedule what that that means is keeping third Downs manageable that last completion to the tight end accomplished just that really nice play call Northwestern right back to the line quarterback on the keeper third down conversions are huge and they've got one and they're at the 35 this quarterback does an outstanding job in his preparation watching film and understanding when he has to pull the ball on these types of run plays great job keying on the defender and quickly making the right decision to pull it and then go get North and get the first give to the running back breaks the tackle and he's brought down after a nice game and that is just an attitude run running it right up the middle right into the teeth of that defense Northwestern ready to dial one up on first down he's going to pass he makes the connection and he was fortunate not to lose yardage on that play able to wedge it back to the line of scrimmage I like the idea on offense you want to get this guy the football in as many ways as possible so you throw him the screen quickly to see if he can make somebody Miss doesn't work there but that should not be the last time you run that play this defense just can't get off the field the offense Unstoppable quarterback wants to throw on second down it's complete to the right he's really close to that first down marker but they stop him just a bit short you know sometimes when you're throwing against Zone coverage you need time for the routes to develop so nice job by the quarterback there being patient allowing his receivers to work themselves open Northwestern hoping to make this Red Zone opportunity pay off they'll go to the air on Third and short oh they really could have used that catch there physical pass defense it brings up a fourth down and this offense stays aggressive and they pass the football I think you can always look back and say third and short I'd love for you to run it be the more physical team but nice job sticking up and Bo their necks for this defense no movement from the field goal unit the offense is out there to try to keep this drive alive on fourth down finds his man and they convert the stop is made but this offense is threatening first and goal from the nine sometimes we don't give enough credit to a receiver knowing exactly where he needs to be on the field and they pick up the first down there yeah and you got to give the receiver credit obviously knowing where that is but the defender needs to know where it is too where is he trying to get that Ball's going to come out quick he didn't really understand where the sticks were and because of that he gives up the first down and he cruises his way to the house touchdown Northwestern you want to keep your offense on the field wear down the defense put that tape on and show it in clinic that's the way it's done it is a defense man there's nothing more demoralized you can handle it when you give up three but to give up the touchdown at the end of the long drive you're already exhausted you've already been pped the whole way down the field man that's frustrating lining up to add another and the extra point is good and the lead is six they held the ball for 15 plays on that touchdown drive and they CA things off with a 9yd touchdown pass the kickoff unit about to go to work from inside the 10 yd line he'll bring it back he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 guys we'll see what this Red Hawks offense can get done this time it's a draw he'll be stopped just short of the 20 at the 19 give him one didn't get much on first down it's second and nine back to pass it's gabber firing to the right complete and he'll step across the sidelines after making a good gain on that one and a nice job separating by the slot receiver on that in route manto man coverage he put his foot in the ground created a little bit of Separation that made that play work now facing a third and long from the gun wants to pass spits it out to the back oh he makes a catch takes the grab and it's enough for the first down before he's dragged to the ground and a really good job by the quarterback being very decisive he saw his matchup he went for it he attacked it got the positive gain I would say he's going to find that guy a few more times today it's first and 10 from the 31 motion from the offense they'll give it to the back they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one well the offensive line had everybody blocked except the defensive end he was able to sneak into the back field and get the tackle for once lost one on that last one it's second and 11 he's looking to throw got it set up on the outside he almost picked up the first down on that one but he'll be just a little bit short I'll tell you what if you want to be overzealous you want to be a Blitzer all the time I like running the screen right behind him did a great job throwing the screen almost broke this one for a long game but it just keeps the defense a little bit more honest if you want to start bringing a lot of pressure wants to throw on third down gets open down the middle and he's knocked down immediately but not before he moves the chains and as a defense that's why you want to avoid third and short moving forward it's really hard to defend that slant that's a bang bang play the offense knows they can execute in their sleeve defense will have to do better early in the drive moving forward they'll run it from the gun he'll give him a couple on that one second and eight coming up kept it on the ground on first down now back to the line back to throw it's gabber and to get rid of it quickly that pass is incomplete and they might be fortunate it wasn't knock free for a fumble it'll be third down the offensive line has got to give him at least a little bit of time to survey the field he had no chance that time getting hit almost immediately after he got the ball they're a perfect two for two on third down on this drive they need eight to move the chains again from the gun wants to pass throws to the tight end can't make the connection on third down thanks to that tough hard-nosed pass defense and now it's fourth down that's one thing this defense takes a lot of Pride on they like tackling the catch and they like being around the ball that time he was in proximity to knock that thing loose nice physical play and the RedHawks line up to punt it away this will be the second time they've had to kick it away way making sure there's no return on that one as the punt sails out of bounds Wildcats have it back the Northwestern offense headed out man what a drive last time for the touchdown that passing attack was Lethal David yeah you know you hear all the stupid commentators like me and Jesse talking about create balance you know run and pass no when you throw that good spin the ball around so the defense has to find a way to affect the quarterback on this drive because last drive he had way too much time to throw Northwestern wants to go quickly got it behind the line it's Johnson and good coverage by the defense just a short game I love offenses and quarterbacks that are willing to take the easy stuff take those easy throws that are guaranteed to get positive yards yeah I'm going to take big shots down the field too but don't forget it's easier to pick up second and five third and five than it is when we start getting those long yardage situations on Third and long trying to have a big completion here quickly to the tight end he gets it oh so close to the first down marker but I think he's going to be a touch short oh you know that's one as a quarterback you've thrown the completion and you're like dude can you just turn around and make one guy Miss and go get the first or can you just stretch out and get the first down you need your guys to have a little bit more awareness where they are in the field on that play and even though they got the completion it's not enough to pick up the first and now you're staring fourth down right in the face coverage team was down there to Coral him they made the Stop and they'll mark it at the 39 Miami Ohio has it back the Red Hawks offense heads to the field that last one looked like a back breaking Drive David but they ended up hunting yeah and they put some plays together put some yards together but the most important stat is putting points on the board and this offense has to f finish Jesse when they get across that 50 yd line and start getting in scoring territory yeah there there was some good execution no doubt about it but I think it's the critical down in distances third down in particular they've got to be better moving forward back to throw it's gabber it's complete to the left he's brought down but there's a flag on the field let's see which way that's going to go that penalty moves the ball back 10 yds will replay the down let's see what they've got on second down he's looking to throw just a little off [Music] [Music] incomplete now this offense facing a third and long from their own 30 looking to throw and he needs a chunk play just gets rid of it to the running back underneath and sure tackling there to keep him from getting to the first down marker a nice job of awareness on defense there on that third down you know you're expecting the offense to throw the football but it's not just going to be receivers or tight ends you got to worry about you got to keep your eye on where that running back is they knew exactly where he would be and they were able to make the tackle setting up for him fourth down and the punt team sends it the other way he'll get it to about the 25 before they put a stop to the return we've reached the two-minute warning and we'll see if the offense can build on this lead before the break quick strike complete and quarterback receiver on the same page nice job seeing the Zone understanding the drag route concept easy pitch easy catch now here on second down see if they keep tossing it around he's looking to throw he's right on target a pick up of five marching at the 36 yd line this is a very tough slot receiver to cover if you're a linebacker because of how quick and how Shifty he is you never seem to know which way he's going and he always seems to create an open space for his QB looking to go up top on first down fires to the tight end and they'll move the chains and get it to the 47 yd line it is so good for an offense early in the game to get in a rhythm and to start stringing first downs together it makes the game really easy and puts that defense in a situation where they're starting to get tired they want to sub they want to get other guys on the field stringing first downs together like this makes it hard to defend snagged in the middle it's Gordon the offense calls a timeout stop the clock I think that time offensively you're just trying to take what the defense is giving you right they're playing Zone coverage you got your big fella just working right over the ball it's an easy pitch and catch just take the profit and let's keep going he'll just keep slinging it quickly complete and he'll be marked down but he's got enough to move the chains stop me when you've heard this before first down first down first down just continuing to put first downs together so far this defense just can't find any answers the wild cats with the first and 10 he wants to throw fires to the right how about getting the foot down on that throw for the big completion and after that pitch and catch he's already over 200 yards and we're in the first half Jesse man ree he's dialed in right now he's really doing a nice job seeing the field reading coverages and finding his open guy they'll throw it on first down safe completion on the screen not able to break the big one on that screen to the running back but he found enough and a solid pick up on first down well a nice Gainer on that running back screen and how about the offensive line getting downfield and getting blocks really help out the back find some space to go to work Northwestern in business in the red zone looking to pass on second down it's complete so close to that inzone he can almost taste it but it'll be first and goal for this offense defense is backed up shadow of the goal post trying to defend their own End Zone they'll try to blast their way in and he takes it to the house touchdown wild caps and what a push up front by this offensive line everyone playing in unison driving out of their stance working into the second level hats on hats creating a lane for that running [Music] they'll try to add another to their lead and with the extra point they stretch the lead to 13 they put together a 74 yd touchdown drive and they close the deal pushing their way inches into the end zone so here comes the kickoff after the touchdown and the last thing you need right before the half is to give up a big return looking for an alley from inside his own 10 nice job executing all of the assignments as they put a stop to that return at the 22 running out of time here in the first half they're going to have to be efficient to put some points on the board before the break give to the back and a good solid pickup before the defense Cuts him down that's going to wrap up the first half here and now we Jo Jo Kevin with a halftime update all right guys looks like we've got a great environment there today in Evon and if you thought that was a quick first half you'd be right on the money an offensive showcase yes but it's been those Dynamic running backs who have set the pace I'm curious to find out if this ground and pound approach is going to continue into the second half or if one of those defenses will actually show some pride and with that let's send it back to the guys at Ryan [Music] Field the Red Hawks will try to kick this one deep to get things underway in the second half from inside the 10 here he comes nice job executing all of the assignments as they put a stop to that return at the 22 the Northwestern offense returns to the field off the play fake on first down to throw looking deep and it goes through his hands oh he had an explosive play right there for the taking but couldn't reel it in the incompletion brings us to Second and 10 going to run it it's Porter tripped up at the 25 after picking up four Northwestern right back to the line they try to pop a run on the draw he's going to have enough to pick up the first down as they stop him at the 33 yd line and they just kind of sneak that one in there as a defensive guy third and five plus I'm thinking pass they were thinking pass Palmer and they slipped the run in and it's so nice then to have this guy at running back two right because you could throw it to him on third down or handed off and he's got the vision and the athleticism to go pick up that first keep the drive going of the gun they give to the back and excellent Vision to find Running Room there and make a really good pick up before the defense put a stop to it I tell you what with this kind of success on the ground I I think you two Knuckleheads could call plays I mean that's how easy it is for this offense right now they got the ground game working it's really easy now you can open up for other things but you guys could even try your hand because they're dominating right now to the air on first down he tosses one high and deep down the left side touchdown Northwestern What A Catch and run for six like a Thanksgiving turkey they're just being car no shot they have no idea how to get this quarterback's head he's on fire everything he's doing is working defensively we got to figure figure something out we got to try to do something a little bit different bring more pressure at this right shoot he's on so much fire you might as well just send everybody Blitz everybody live with the results cuz everything else ain't working anyways two-point conversion attempt is coming out of the gun looking to throw makes the grab in the end zone for the two as they extend the lead a very efficient five play scoring drive and the scoring play coming on a 56 yd touchdown pass kickoff team is on the field they'll try to drive this one deep on the run from inside his own five really discipline job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 the Miami Ohio offense returns to the field they'll throw it on first down trailing by three touchdowns if you're going to get back in it David the time to start is right now got to start now defense giving up points on that last possession again the offense is going to have to score and Jesse probably scored pretty quickly yeah you got to go Tempo you're going to have to try to fit in as many plays as you can throughout the rest of this game but I think more than that you got to eliminate the negative plays no more penalties and no more turnovers got room at the 35 and he found plenty of Running Room on that one before the defense was finally able to get him down and running backs are so good so talented so elusive you see nowadays they really have the ability to make you miss run you over unbelievable effort nice job you keep that going it could be hard to stop the offense lines up at the 41 with a first and 10 can't hold on he had him right down the middle and he flat dropped and man these slant routes you throw quick it's a timing route you've thrown 3 million of them to the wide receiver and most of the time gets his hands up and he catches it keeps his body in the way but right there just lack of focus lack of concentration just drops the easy play he he's probably caught that ball 99% of the time it's been thrown to him they'll throw it to the back on the screen oh what a move and he goes out of bounds after coming up with positive yardage there and he didn't get a big gain you you want to call that play and probably want to get more yards but you could tell that was super close from seriously busted loose nice job running the screen getting the ball to your playmaker if he could just make one more gu miss that might have been huge he'll keep it himself and boy is he close to that first down maybe just a couple of inches short you know I really like this QB running the football because I know he's got a lot of speed but he's not the biggest guy in the world so he's not going to be able to break a lot of tackles you really got to do a good job of trying to scheme ways to get him out in more space and the Red Hawks will punt it away on fourth down he's getting a lot of work fourth time he's punted tonight the wild cats have it back the Northwestern offense headed out there have been few obstacles for this offense as they are starting to pull away here in the second half Jesse and this has been a dream game for this play caller too right it's like anything that he's calling is working flawlessly yeah it's fun to be the offensive coordinator but not the defensive coordinator they have had no answers it's been an absolutely miserable day trying to Solve the Riddle of this offense and it's another first and 10 play he's looking to throw it quickly out to the tight end and maybe he'll get back to the line of scrimmage but no more than that in their vision of that play someone would run free after making an easy catch uh there was nowhere to run and nowhere to go except down probably looked really good when they drew that one up on the board this week in practice but obviously a lot more difficult to go out and execute give the defense credit Great Stop got it in the middle it's Johnson and the defense settled in to stop that one for a short gain [Music] they've got a good chunk of ground to cover on Third and long from the 41 from the gun once to pass working that left side a quick tackle made but he's got PL for the first down you can tell this quarterback did his homework coming into this game he has been dissecting this defense with his arm and his mind over 300 yards passing now the wild cats they moving quickly down the field they'll go to the ground at the 35 is open he will step out of bounds but not before the big pick up and a first down for this offense and that's another productive run this offense has had a bunch of them today and the running back I think this lead was built on this guy he's done a great job all game long setting the tone and I think that's why this offense has been successful coming out on first down with the play fate got him downfield and tight coverage right there but he makes the grab and they've got it on the 11 and a red zone chance well you're seeing the balance this offense has and how they can create explosive plays in a variety of ways we just saw one come in the Run game and now you see one coming in the passing game tell you they've got this defense on their heels trying to find his man on first down makes to grab he's all the way down to the 2yd line just spectacular execution there you see it more and more smaller wide receivers I don't care about their size anymore I put them in the slot I let them get a good match up they're so quick people can't get their hands on them they make plays and I feed them the football these are guys that have a lot of catches throughout a season leaves it with the running back touchdown wild cats and the Ping has started and the running back gets his second rushing touchdown of the game you want to continue to feed this guy you can tell he's got a nose for the End Zone knows how to get in there knows how to make things happen [Music] [Music] lining up to attack one more onto that lead the kick is up and good and put one more on the lead 76 yds on the drive for the touchdown and finish to deal with the short touchdown run from the two kickoff team lining up to send this one away away on the move from inside is five he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 guys we'll see what this Red Hawks offense can get done this time looking downfield it's gabber swings it out to the flat great move there he's run out of bounds but not before turning in a big pickup and moving the sticks for a first down you know it's funny I know running backs often times are afterthoughts when it comes to the passing game but when you think about it this guy's been making people miss his entire life taking handoff so why wouldn't you try to get him involved in the passing game as well you just saw in that last play how dangerous he is after the catch and that incomplete pass caused by the big hit on first down second down coming hey man if you're going to force incompletions when the QB's thrown to the tight end you better be physical nice job with the hit forcing that incompletion after the quarterback and receiver failed to hook up they'll try it again on second down the give to the back finding a way to put that foot in the ground and get it up to the 37 yd line right they showed this in the first half right loaded up ran the football had some success what do they do in the second half come back now pull some guys go the other direction have success great job by the coaching sta they're about to wear this punter out he's already been out four times staring at a fifth if they can't move the chains makes the grab defense caught out of position and they get him down finally at the 38 3 yd and first for the off the RedHawks will have it first and 10 looking to move it through the air catch in the middle it's Johnson makes the stop at the 23 yd line but it's a pick up of 15 a first down and this offense is smelling the end zone the fresh set of downs after the completion dropping back it's gabber it's complete on the right side they stop him just short of the first down but it will be second and inches coming up the defense needs to have a plan for this guy they weren't ready for that one drag route running all the way across the field and the DB just can't stay with them because of his speed and as a result they give up a big one going to work on second down in the red zone is still some ground to cover to pick pick up that first down fires the pass intercepted got some room to run he's at the 40 running inside the 20 touchdown Northwestern and this defense coming up with points of their own what an interception return just one moment and all of a sudden the Fortune's turn you're in a position where you're about to give up points and now you flip that around and you put points on the board perfectly executed what are you doing an interception first guy blocks the intended receiver everybody else starts to form a wall where the ball's going nice blocking nice interception nice return for the touchdown they'll try to add another to their and the extra point just tacks a little bit more onto this huge lead they'll kick it off and send that defense right back out there to try to score again after the pick six here's the return from inside his 10 he was hoping for something a little more d dnamic but they get him on the ground at the 20 Miami Ohio has it back the Red Hawks offense heads to the field and it's incomplete it was wild high and wide on that one couldn't make the connection last time let's see if they throw it again dropping back it's gabber zings it complete to the right and he's able to shed one tackle and gets a pretty good pickup that's a bang bang play three step slant they rep this over and over in practice so they can go and execute it on game day like that wow this offense is doing nothing they've already punted four times and staring at the possibility of a fif on Third and short they'll try to throw for it that pass not close as he got drilled trying to deliver it and it'll bring up fourth down defense did a great job third and short on the opponent side of the field they're expecting quick throw everybody they dug their heel on the ground they're able to break on the ball Force the incompletion and the RedHawks will try to pin them back with the punt they may have to pay him overtime he's punting for the fifth time today and they'll bring him down to get the offense started on the next Drive first play of this drive will start from the 31 yd line to the ground with the back still on his feet at the 45 finally run out of bounds but he has this offense rolling with a first down well on offense youve got to love the way your offens of line is playing in this game they're getting tremendous movement up front they're climbing in the second level and really giving these backs and ball carriers a lot of room to run all game long going up top on first down working the middle it's complete he's there to make the stop but the damage has been done as they pick up the first down on the throwing catch nice job by the receiver on the in route there and how about the speed after he made his break he was able to actually separate a little bit from the DB helping out his QB on that one they're lining up on First and 10 from the the 38 gets it out [Music] fast running game worked on first down let's see if they go back to it on second down he's looking to throw quarterback can't pull the trigger in down he goes at the 41 there's something you don't see very often a sack on a screen pass you know quarterbacks are taught to hold the ball hold the ball hold the ball and then get rid of it right before the rush gets to you but that time I think he just held on to it a little too long they line up with some serious work to do if they want to convert this one on Third and long doesn't need to take the check down and it falls incomplete and the offense is lucky to have it Defender right there almost had it in his grasp nice job in coverage there offense trying to take a shot downfield the defender able to tip that one up in the air and force it incomplete Northwestern will send out the punt team this will be the second time they've had to kick it away and you just won't see a more effective punt than that out of bounds inside the 5 yd [Music] line he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three well the offense is trying to run the football at this area of the field right they're just trying to give themselves some space so they can go operate but the defense just bullied him up front at the point of it attack and they're able to tackle that guy for a loss down at the one yd line not what they had in mind to start this drive here comes second and 13 from the gun the ground game that's what you expect from a senior don't give them any extra yards great tackle there not exactly the ideal situation for this offense third and long back up inside their 20 here's the handoff that's the 15 he's loose they make the stop but this running game moves to change as they get the first down defensively you know they're going to run it you know they're going to try to create some space offensively and just try to run out of the goal line so that's a frustrating one that hurts because the Run game comes downhill he gets a big gain and now out of the own end zone now no safety to worry about you can pass you can run the whole Playbook at your disposal into the pile maybe got one he stopped at the 21 didn't get much on first down it's second and nine trying to surprise him with the pass good job to toss that ball out of bounds and avoid the [Music] loss third down conversions are a huge stat and this one would be a doozy if they can pull it off looking to throw it's gabber fires to the wide now got his man downfield and they'll spot it at the 45 that's good enough for a first down enough for first the RedHawks are moving quickly down the field he'll come out throwing on first down feeling some heat and that's just a flat misfire not even close to his receiver offense walks to the line for play number seven of the drive wide receiver shows motion looking to throw it again he lost one down the sideline and this is dropped incomplete pass he had a huge gain in his fingers and he couldn't hold on this drive was clicking along but after a couple of misfires threatening to stall out on Third and 10 from the gun wants to pass shoots it to the left complete downfield and they exploited that soft spot and they get it down to the 35 I'll tell you this quarterback has just been in a great Rhythm all game long with that last completion he's now over 300 yd passing and the RedHawks will snap it on First and 10 unloads quickly he's brought down but there's a flag on the play let's see if it stands know [Music] the officials offer the deal and the coach accepts it they will take the penalty the give to the running back from the shotgun and they'll bring him down after a short pickup defense has to be frustrated the offense keeps matriculating and matriculating and matriculating the ball down the field back to throw it's gabber receiver looks it in it's complete they get him on the ground and that'll be the final play of this third period and talk about spreading the ball around everyone getting a chance to show off the hands based on the number of targets we've seen [Music] I guess if you're an optimist the stage is set for a massive fourth quarter comeback on Third and long try to convert through the air with the catch it's Johnson and he was knocked down immediately short of the line to game they'll have to make a decision here you just get the feeling this defense is going to make it hard on them right they've got the lead it's late and they're going to try to tackle everybody in bounds offense is going to have to really work for this and be smart you got to attack the sidelines you got to throw first downs you got to keep this thing moving vertically down the field he'll do it himself he is stopped short and they'll turn it over on Downs just a crushing blow at this point in the game hand off from the shotgun found a little space and he's got four to the 35 [Music] after the productive first down play it's second and six on the run it's Porter and he's knocked down but not before moving the chains a second down defensively I'm always like hey let's get to third down really good job by the offense was like nah we're going to stick this run right down your throat get the first down on second down we don't need third Downs they'll put it in play from the 41 on first down wide out in motion the give to the tailb not much working there it'll be second and nine went to the running game on first down now here they come again from the gun they'll try to impose their running game one step WRA two-step squeeze this junior knows how to get him on the [Music] ground a chance to sort of put the defense on its heels if you conver ver a third and long this one from the 44 from the gun wants to pass finds his man it's Gordon and he's not going to get there the defense Stands Tall and makes the stop it's a really nice job in coverage defensively there because that tight end he wasn't really even open quarterback just still tried to put it on him and and give him an opportunity but great tackle short of the stick setting up fourth down Northwestern will have to pun it away a fairly short distance here toward the sidelines not his best work the Miami Ohio offense returns to the field they've got it back after that last Drive stalled out and they were stopped on fourth down David yeah and they put a little bit of a drive together but Jesse they stalled on the other side of the field and they got to find a way to keep that momentum going as they get closer to the end zone I agree I I do like their mindset though and I think they need to continue being aggressive moving forward in this game on first down here comes this offense looking downfield it's gabber unloads it left wide open downfield they make the stop but the sweet ruin catches plenty to give him a first down when you run those routes those curl routes just like that those DBS are going to break when you go to throw the football so you better put that thing on a line in and the QB did there put it on the line great job great catch first down wants to throw on first down got him in it's McDonald this offense has their work cut out for him man because the coverage has been so tight and if you're not throwing to the sideline or you're not getting past the sticks this defense is going to tackle you inbounds like they just did on that last play and bleed the clock line getting set on second down he's looking to throw quick completion on the out he's right out of bounds but a big play on that one and it'll be a first down man this quarterback has been dialed in all game long he's making outstanding decisions and he's been so accurate throwing the football he's now got over 350 passing yards maybe this will breathe a little life into this offense which has been flatlined in the second half here's first and 10 they keep attacking through the air catch in the middle it's Johnson he's like a pinball with Attitude out there hammering ahead to the 30 it's a nice job running the end route there by the receiver and the best thing he did after he made his break he didn't Trail and fade away he actually attacked the football that's a good lesson for young receivers out there watching picked up some yardage with that completion now second down he'll pull it on the read he is going nowhere there sto at the line of scrimmage I don't think the quarterback made the right read on that play I know they're asking a lot of this QB he's got a lot to focus on with the pass game and all the different types of runs that they have in their playbook but on that play there that pre-nap look told me to hand it off looking for a man it's gabber using the quick game they've got it just outside the Red Zone they'll move the chains it's at the 21 and when you run those track routs just takes a little bit of knoow and when I say that receivers got to understand find Space my quarterback's going to find me he's looking for that space at the same time nice throw nice catch way to get the first down the Red Hawks have it with a first and 10 used the play fake now to throw looking for the score into the house touchdown Red Hawks yeah nice pitch nice catch and listen maybe this helps next game right like we're trying to find a Rhythm find something that works find somebody to go to and this offense is struggling you're down by a thousand but I like that they continue to fight on to attempt the Tron on extra point hit that one with some aggression for the point after so a drive there of 82 yds and they finish things off with a 21 yd touchdown pass they're just about ready to kick it away set to advance on the football he'll bring it out gets it out to the 20 about five yd short of where he'd be if he' just taken a knee in the end zone the Northwestern offense returns to the field they had this thing in a hammer lock at halftime and now they are really ratcheting up the pressure David and I tell you what this offense doesn't have to change a thing P they've done what they wanted in the first half and starting off the second half in the same fashion and I like how they're letting different guys get involved too they've got so many different playmakers all over the field didn't get much on first down it's second and nine he's looking to throw fires a bullet now it's picked off going the other way and he's got room and he's going to run it all the way back touchdown Miami what a play by this defense with the pick six and how about the defender exactly what you're supposed to do breaks on the football makes the interception everybody on defense we turn to offense go lay some blocks so my guy can get it and take it get back to the house they'll try to attack one more on their score and it's perfect they're lining up to kick it off after the pick six that defense will come out feeling it he'll bring it back from inside his five nice job by the kickoff team everybody stayed in their lanes and they'll stop him at the 16 Wildcats have it back the Northwestern offense headed out well the good news is they threw a touchdown pass last time it was just to the wrong team Jesse well that's an unfortunate part of the game for quarterbacks but guess what they do haveen so You' got to be able to turn the page here and Lead this offense well I think you know this defense is going to be aggressive they're going to jump routes they're going to play aggressive you got to take advantage of that maybe use that this time to your advantage didn't get much on first down it's second and nine looking for a gap it's Porter that keeps the running game churning pick up of five to the [Music] 23 how how bold will they be on third down after that last run to the ground to try to move the chains they'll pick up the first down as he gets it out to the 27 yd line well the running back did a nice job there keeping his feet moving he was able to drag some Defenders with him to get that first down they'll put it in play from the 27 first down from the gun the running back has it and this one will be stopped for No Gain great job by the defense everybody firing off the ball hitting their guys holding their gaps running to the football nowhere to [Music] go they got nothing on the last play it's second and 10 now he's looking to throw it under heavy pressure lets it Fly and that ball is hauled in inside the 35 pass inter [Music] defense the officials throw the flag but the offense won't need it they'll decline that and keep the big play wide receiver coming across in motion running back searching for a hole a make the stop as he gets it inside the 30 to the 28 a gain of four solid pickup of four on first down it's second and six off play action time running out and he goes down at the 34 the defense just simply not fooled by the play action often times an offense you're hoping the Run fake is going to slow down those pass rushers but man oh man they had their ears pinned back seventh play of the drive coming up but a long way to go on third down they'll go to the air lofs one deep down the right side and they dialed up a shot play but they couldn't hook up really nice third down sub defense there that time it's third and long they're expecting pass and they're mixing up their looks they're trying to change the picture pre- snap to post Snap to confuse the quarterback and now forcing the incompletion setting up fourth and here comes the field goal unit this kicker has already made a couple today looks as if this will be a 51 yd attempt and the kicker delivers the three to salvage that drive and now the lead is even bigger how nice is it as a head coach to have a kicker like this it makes these decisions on fourth down so much easier just trut him out there and let him stroke it through the upright [Music] they keep pushing that lead out and the kickoff team's getting some work and he takes this from inside the five really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 guys we'll see what this Red Hawks offense can get done this time to the air it's Gaber got his man on the right man it's so important when you play QB I got to know when to put some air on it and I got to know when to rocket that thing in there working the middle of the field he knew he needed the rocket threw it in there great job great catch completion a little short of the sticks it's second down he's looking to throw oh he wants it all nice defensive way to get a hand in there and knock it get away well I know that one fell incomplete but what a day this guy has had throwing the football multiple touchdowns and he's done a really nice job with his decision making hasn't thrown any picks which has really helped keep this offense on schedule now looking for that first down on Third and short from the 26 they'll try to get it through the air another incompletion on third down normally I would say fourth and short on your own side of the field you punt the ball away but we're in the fourth quart and they need to keep this drive going to win I say go for it down in the fourth quarter it's too late for empty possessions they'll go for it on fourth down he'll try to throw and pick up the first down unloads to the wide out and it's battered away and the fourth down play doesn't convert they'll give up the football first down here for the offense wasting no time throwing on this drive that is just a sideline credit roll catch tow drag everything you want there are a lot of offensive coordinators out there in a similar situation with a lead like this uh they'd definitely be running the ball at this point uh they'd probably take their starting quarterback out of the game potentially but not this unit they are still staying aggressive they're still taking shots they're just trying to light up the scoreboard touchdown Wildcats and the beat down has ensued points points and more points this offense has had their way they just keep their foot on the gas keep putting up points keep putting up touchdowns and you know what this is one of those stats days you look back and you're like that guy had 12 touchdowns on the year Well four or five of them might have been in this game lining up to tack one more onto that lead and with the extra point the lead is even bigger they got the ball in great field position and Bam Bam two plays and into the end zone about to kick it away after scoring the touchdown from inside his own 10 let's see what he gets really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 to the air it's gabber and this will be incomplete a big hit there forces second down quarterback empties his back field he's back to throw on second down how about that play to get a hand in there and force the incompletion the offense has lost the element of surprise here right fourth quarter they're trailing by a lot they're trying to go four verticals but the defense knows it's coming and they do a nice job in the back end making sure that Fall's incomplete this defense has kept them backed up now one more stop and they can get off the field on Third and long from the gun wants to pass fires one high and deep and it slips through his fingers incomplete that would have been a huge gain if he could have squeezed it trailing this much in the fourth quarter the offense is looking for an explosive play to try to ignite them and get them back in this one but nothing doing nice job in coverage and the RedHawks will putt this one away and these guys have been busy sixth punt of the day he's got great speed they'll put a stop to that return at about the 37 yd line the Northwestern offense returns to the field the handoff keep working on that clock they'll get the first down it's spotted on the 49 and you want to dominate the football game like these guys have all day dominate the line of scrimmage you know turning hand the ball off to your running back it's a good recipe it makes every quarterback better it makes every OC better just turn hand the football off especially when you're winning the ball game it'll be a first down from the 49 yd line might as well run him until they stop him he's got it again really nice stop there from this senior leader after the three- yd pickup they come to the line Second and seven hand off from the [Music] gun he's an open space downfield just like that a huge gain and they've got it inside the 10 they'll mark it at the eight what a run great speed great vision elusiveness and David he's tackled down close to the goal line yeah and this offense when you can run the football like this man you will have success especially in the Red Zone trying to get touchdowns we reached the two-minute warning and this offense will be quite content just to drain the rest of the time away on first and goal let's see if Northwestern can score they'll try to get it in with the Run he pushes his way down to the FL as they get closer and closer and I'm a fan of this man run the football eat the clock we got the lead this offense has put together a nice day man like just balance Rhythm timing play calling everything has worked that's why they've built this lead they've had a great day today they've pushed it ahead to the four they'll try to cash in on second and goal he'll run it to the right here and try to get it into the end zone and he'll be stuck got nothing line of scrimmage still at the four it's looking like they're going to have to throw this one in now on third down David and you know the execution just has to be spot on timing especially at the quarterback position here and thinking about the defense they're aggressive in these situations they're going to play man they're going to play uptight on you so I know that now how do I counter punch and attack this defense gets it into the end zone but wait a minute we'll have to check out the laundry on the field amazing how many times an offensive holding penalty will stall a drive we'll see if the offense can overcome it wide receiver now comes in motion they'll run it on Third and goal knocked down for the tackle and there's nothing more frustrating than when you get late in the game and you know they're running the football and you don't stop them it's been that kind of day for this defense they haven't played well they're going to have to go to the well they're going to have to figure some things out practice this week I can promise you we'll not be a lot of fun with these coaches field goal is good well that's just piling on not the penalty time just the moon time [Music] [Music] today
