first of 2024 par Olympic games are about to get underway in Paris so we've set Martin there to keep us to date with everything hello Martin now obviously I was in Paris a few weeks back so show me your best French oh bong bong bong from Paris the capital city of France get ready for 11 days of sporting action across 22 different sports now par Olympics GB will be represented by 215 par athletes all hoping no doubt to get their hands on a medal now before the world's best par athletes get the chance to Showcase what they can do tonight's opening ceremony will be taking place which will officially open the 2024 par Olympic Games here in Paris now it was announced yesterday that Terry Bywater who plays wheelchair basketball and Lucy shooker will be the official flag biters for Paralympics GB at tonight's opening ceremony I caught up with them yesterday to find out how they're feeling about it congratulations how does it feel to be the flag better for Great Britain yeah I keep hitching myself it seems crazy right now um it's all just a dream I'm in this ball coming to my seventh games um obviously being nominated to to be flag bearer it was a dream come true and then obviously yesterday finding out that I'm actually going to be carrying the flag in the biggest sport event in the world yeah just a dream yeah I was blown away it's it's a huge honor and yeah so proud you're representing and bringing out Paralympics GB leading them out as you know in one of the biggest sporting you know moments or events in a 4-year cycle so me and Lucy will be be carrying that flag in front of millions and millions of people and not only that in front of my family in front of my friends and yeah it's uh super exciting of course we will be bringing you all the glitz and glamour of tonight's opening ceremony tomorrow morning on news round from around 7:40 but you don't have to wait until then he finds out more things about this year's par Olympic Games if you take a we up to the news round website you'll see a full Guide to the games and find out who the ones who are the ones to watch this year back to you in the studio de graft I hope that my friends was was okay for you today all orar Martin perfect perfect French now we're going to move on now and have you guys ever wanted to be a knight you know defending Carles and wearing armor well Emma Louise went to a special event to find out more [Music] I'm here at wwor Castle in Northumberland to see some Knights In Action relax I want to get involved too but I wonder who I can speak to to find out more oh I think I can see someone who can help so Daniel I'm here to learn about Knights can you teach me absolutely should we Dive Right In yeah so what we have here is my full set of armor the padding that goes underneath and one of the most important things my all of this looks quite expensive was it been expensive to be a night back in the day it was very expensive it's why even though as many nights as you could get in a kingdom would be a good thing there was never that many the armor that we were looking at the helmet the sword it would add up pretty much the same amount today to buy a house it was very risky cuz at any point if you got captured you could lose all of this and be very very poor and have to buy it all back again so Emma Louise you've had a look do you want to try it yourself how about you dress up and you be a knight uh yeah I'm sure you'll enjoy it come on let's go it is I Emma louisea Mania of Newsround I am a noble Knight of children's news chosen to defend the truth and other stuff like that so obviously I'm not a real Knight I've just had some armor on though What would life have been like for the knights I started off very young about age of seven they started training to become Knights they'd learned about horse riding in weapons they also learned the peaceful side to serve at tables to be respectful by the time they were 15 they were effectively graduated KN school they were ready to become Knights but to be a knight you won't just finish or training you have to be made a knight sometimes we think of knights as brutal Warriors and and that's true on the one hand but another part of being a night in the medieval periods was learning about respect and courtesy and following the laws and having dignity first of all great outfit so what exactly is your job here well I'm not quite a squire but I help out the knights I also go on the battlefield as a mascot sometimes so you must have seen a lot of battles yes and what's your favorite thing about battles the best thing is the things that they do on the battlefield unless it's a unless it's like a show show it's never scripted who's going to be the winner so it's they Battle For Real yeah well of course they're real Knights of course [Music] I absolutely love that Emma Lise you make a fantastic night but remember guys all of those people are trained so don't be trying any of that at home next it's time for some news about nature and the environment with your planet first this week let's head to Peru in South America to meet these two cuties who have been rescued by the national forestry and Wildlife service they are baby pumers species endangered by forest fires and Mining these little guys were discovered by a farmer abandoned and in poor health but the good news is that the Cubs now around 7 weeks old are showing a remarkable Improvement next we head to pazel in Germany to meet a team who have taken to the skies to help endangered birds biologist Johannes Fritz and his conservation team managed to increase the population of endangered Bor ibises in the region from almost Z to 300 but they found they had a problem the birds are natural migrators traveling between countries depending on the seasons but because they had been raised from chicks in breeding centers when they tried to migrate they got lost so Johannes had the bright idea of teaching them where to go by flying a micr likee plane along the migration route to Spain around 2,800 km away they still have a long way to go but the plan is going well finally we head to the southwest of France to a river called gav deow where scientists are exploring Waters and caves to identify new species of micr crustations they use Sledgehammer to insert a long metal rod deep into the water then they use a vacuum to suck mud from the riverbed and sift it through a very fine mesh net to find tiny translucent Crustaceans a very distant cousin of the shrimp sometimes called Baby dragons the health of these tiny organisms allow the scientists to monitor pollution levels deep in the riverbed ah Nina thank you so much some great environmental news from all around the planet right that's all we have time for this morning we'll see you bright and early tomorrow and we've got loads more over on the newr website so make sure you take a look at that as well see you guys bye
