Chicago Cubs vs Pittsburgh Pirates 9/3/2024 MLB The Show 24 Gameplay

hello Baseball fans and welcome a great night for baseball ahead on the show it's the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Chicago Cubs first pitch coming at you right after the break so just about set now pitching for the Cubs in this one Kyle Hendricks what's the word on him pitch guy he's got some options to work with in terms of keeping hitters off balance so we'll see how he decides to utilize those weapons through this start here and whether or not he's able to mix them all in early or if he wants to hold back a little B later maybe second third time through the and them something they haven't seen it's tough when you know a gu's got that in his back pocket as a hitter you really have to stay on your toes offering popped in the air right field beler makes the grab one down we take a check of the Pirates lineup put together by manager Derek Shelton we could be in for a power showcase today with the wind blowing out a lot of lift and separate Chris well we know guys are in this era definitely trying to hit the ball in the air regardless of the conditions but I think even a little more so there's margin for error if you can get the ball up in the air so you know you'll see at times I'm sure with two strikes what looks like a half swing that can get out of the ballpark with a guy who's got decent pop and there's a foul ball one down base is empty in the air to left down the line Half drifts towards it reaches over the wall and he's got it on the north side of Chicago John shabby and Chris Singleton and here is O'Neal Cruz and another ball [Applause] in the air left field makes the catch and that is that half inning complete we've got no score back here at the friendly confines and starting this one Paul sches what do we need to know here big arm power one thing he struggles with though is repeating his delivery and sometimes you have bigger pitch trying to S things up not as easy as a more compact pitcher but if he can get command going establish it early and carry it through the ball game he's going to pitch deep into bottom of the first and here's the veteran outfielder in half almost got him [Applause] and now the count is full and another power hitter lurking in the UND deck Circle in the air out to Center has a beat on it and out number one on the grab time now for the Chicago Cubs lineup they're dealing with a level arm of the mount so this figures to be a tough matchup for him what's the key to the offense today singy oh Bo I think when you got a guy that's this talented on the mound you got to find ways to disrupt his rhythm make him uncomfortable a little bit the guys that can handle the bat and perhaps you know bunt bunt for a base hit get him moving off the mound if you're in the box and he seems to be just in a flow step out mess up his timing somehow try to get in his head a little bit and then when he does come in the zone you may only get one pitch you better not miss it man at first with one gone SE Suzuki the next cup to hit rander kicks deals here goes the runner throw tag grandal with a quick release usually when you see a team try to steal a base in the early Innings it tells you they want to be aggressive on offense try to force the defense to make plays and slow them down that's exactly what they did right there so we'll see if that caught stealing changes the offensive approach moving forward two down dolman on and a swing in a miss and it's a three up three down inning scoreless after one here at Wrigley Field and now the DH Brian De La Cruz ran de [Applause] Cruz the two- one on the ground to third boots it safe at first no play we'll see how they score this here's Rowdy T Ry gets under and Pops it up pedus sizes this one up he's got it and there's one [Applause] down up next for the Pirates Nick Gonzalez definitely wants to stay out of the double play here ball on the ground in the infield should be an in ending double play next offer in there for a strike that is strike two the two strikes may see some movement over there first base trying to stay out of the double play right here Line Drive Bas hit they fired in quickly so it's first and second with only one away well that was B in this game so great job there stepping up to the challenge everything was on time and fluid in that swing got a pitch he could get the barrel on and lined it into center for the knock those always feel good a chance now to take the lead and at this point in the game that could be a deciding run one down at the plate for Pittsburgh Conor Joe and there's a ball the last thing he wants is to hit the ball on the ground but I wouldn't expect many pitches up in the zone they'll be pitching for a double play in this spot goahead run at second here at the top of the second and a ground ball to first down the line and it's [Applause] foul righty delivers it's Softly on the ground to Third and he picks it up in foul territory and the pitch and another ball yasman grandal IND the on Deck Circle two on one out this one popped up B ground first Bas side push drifts towards it reaches over the wall and he's got it yeah that was a wasted RBI opportunity but competitor like him he is looking forward to making up for it in his next ADV it's a first and second with two outs and now the veteran catcher yasmani grandall at the belt and finds right through there for a strike [Applause] that one back up the middle and it gets through here's the throw to the plate it's off the mark and he scores only gets it done in a big spot to get the run across timing on the swing was good able to shoot the ball up the middle as much as he probably would have liked but that's a good approach paying off first and second two outs now the third baseman no trouble here puts it away for the out and that's the third out so one run in the Inning on this base hit it's now a one- nothing ball game Major League Baseball is on the show back here at Wrigley Field we head to the bottom of the second here's the veteran [Music] outfielder and a one one two and one the count now he hasn't seen a fast yet but you've got to be ready to hit one because you doubt the pitcher wants this to go to a 3-1 count and a pitch and another ball is burus on deck for the Cubs strike three got him swinging and one away pitch have become so much better at commanding that high fast it used to be that a lot of pitch didn't like to throw it because it throw off their release point and their mechanics and they're aimed at keeping everything at the knees get ground balls but because hits get a swing path that can lift balls at the knees up in the air and over the fence this pitch has come back into play and they are doing some special things with it [Applause] the Cubbies down by a run bottom half of and a miss and he struck him out and a nice inning of work there as he sets him down one two three nothing happening there for the Cubs still behind by a count of one to nothing top half of the third to turn on the infield the firstan has to get inside create a throwing Lane to hit that middle infield to start the double play and then from there completing it back to First really good job all the round Pit by the Arizona dond player in college College World Series player all that good stuff but really coming into his own right through there for a strike just a really nice slider down and in there he wants to get the hitter thinking fast speed him up and just subtract some velocity and add a little movement swing and a miss at the splitter and it's a strike out that's about as nasty of a split as you come across especially in terms of movement tumbles out of his hand and just drops off the table at the last moment he keeps it down it's just so tough to put wood on Pete Crow Armstrong the next cup to hit in the air right field pretty well struck that's back there and it's into the bleachers it's out of here that'll fire up the Dugout it's one1 listen to these fans this place is time to first two quick outs here in the top of the four well there's a lot riding on that at bat right there nice job of the pitcher to Bear Down make the pitch get the ground ball excellent piece of crushed no doubt about it and here in the late stages they have the lead a massive home run and now they're out front it's 21 that one just sounded different and it might have been the loudest moment yet man my ears are ringing I can feel that swing from the booth [Applause] [Applause] knew what pitch he wanted to hit spit on some other pitches in this it bat was very patient and it paid off here's the second baseman Nico Herer and that's outside always exciting to see a late off home run and an inning kind of gets the offense fired up and you start to expect a big inning the wide to the it barehanded to first and that's a great play for the out oh that was pretty right there beautiful play with the [Applause] and now the center fielder Pete Crow Armstrong the [Applause] one1 corner over at second one down [Applause] cut on and Miss struck him out picks up strike out number seven with that kind of velocity an elevated fast even if it's still in the strike zone can be tough for hitters to get on top of and up next for Chicago Christian Beth [Applause] cour man on second two down swings through that one it's a strike out one scores in the inning coming on this solo home run and it's now a 2-1 ball game back after this on the show here at Wrigley Field we go to the top of the fifth at the plate for Pittsburgh Conor Joe looking to get the tying run on base swing and a miss and two meanwhile activity in the bullpen PGE Lopez the closer is getting loose [Music] [Applause] and a base hit on a line and the tying run is on with a lead off single always feels amazing get the job when the team needs you to come through just bigger than your own individual stats really good swing right there he got a pitch that he knew he could handle allowed himself to stay back just a tad bit longer and he hit the ball on the screws substitution being made at first coming in as the pinch run Michael a Taylor Mich no outs runner at first and now up to the plate yasman grandal and here it comes check swing and that's a [Applause] ball two and one now and side just missed Chris with that distraction and a speedy guy at first he's in a favorable hitters count well if nothing else I mean this is a great spot for a hitter to be in the pitch and a base hit right there throw back in quickly first and second now with nobody out two consecutive base hits for this team when you can turn the ball around at 107 off the bat it's going to make you feel really good inside he elevates a little bit more it's definitely out of here now that sets up a hug in this game making a move at first pinch running here Henry Davis here's the third baseman so the tying run at second well if he's going to do something special right here it's going to have to happen with two strikes [Applause] and now it's one and two bounce to the right side off balance feed there's [Applause] one had the chance of tur two right there but I don't think he got a good grip on the ball he tried to transfer from glove to throwing hand they say you can't assume a double play i' beg to differ at the big league level but it's going to be ruled as a fielder's Choice Isaiah coner FFA up to the plate and another ball ball one strike a one run lead we're at the top of the fif ripped into left Center for a base hit runner from third into score it's two2 now there you go the RBI machine another clutch run scoring it back yeah he's been so good in these situations call it clutch if you want but his resume speaks for itself manager out of the Dugout now and it looks like we'll see a change on the M Kyle HRI departs and we'll be back with their first arm out of the pen after a quick break new pitcher now Keegan Thompson they know that he can get a rightand out but he's in position to face a couple of lefties this Inn go ahead run on base Brian Reynolds now at the plate that misses the zone and a count two and one one out Runners a first and second here's the pitch it's a double steel on Deck Circle first and second two down and that'll load the bases now Ryan de Cruz the next pirate to hit the one one in situations like these the air can get really thin up there at the plate got to find a way to breathe and slow everything down two one now and a PO right side Val territory and that's the third out but they pick up one run on the RBI single two two game now into the game Michael a Taylor he takes over in right also into the ball game Henry Davis takes were behind the plate in half hit the no left and the [Applause] pitch activity in Pittsburgh's Bullpen Carmen mski up and loosening in the pen beaks getting loose as well righty to the plate and that one a little below the knees and the counts even at two swing and a miss got him to go up the ladder for the K he's really good hitting the baseball the other way so theit for having him out in front of that pitch clearly he had him fo all now for Chicago Michael Bush one down base is empty just [Applause] missed the pitch o that one went straight back and got her up right in the Mas let's hope he's okay that misses and the counts four he should get a pretty good pitch to hit here with three hitter coming up consistently it doesn't matter how many highlight real plays you make if you can't execute the small stuff just like we saw foul ball there clearly trying to stay back a little bit longer for that change up as he fouls that fast back that's a base hit and the winning run is a board well here we on Bas with away impressive he didn't get Jam onit in Qui allow him to get the barel it justo it up the middle of the field for that two outs runner at first now it's the right fielder Cody Bellinger run on the goal strike in there throw to Second and that'll let the in it well try to get in the scoring position but a great catch and throw to end the inning that's the way to pick up the [Applause] pitcher and welcome back to the ballpark all set for the top of the six and here's the first ban rowy t and a count one and [Applause] two and it's second Miss it's a strike out definitely made him chase a little bit out of his own right there I don't think that's a strike if he takes ity textbook pitching get ahead in the count get the guy in the Box on his heels and then force him to chase your pitch where he doesn't have much of a chance to do any damage so next to the plate for opportunities to drive in runs you got to expand the he's capable of going out there and doing damage with it Michael a Taylor waiting for a turn at the plate and the righty deal struck him out looking most guys are very aggressive when they see the stakes out there on the base paths and can't understand why he wasn't ready to swing the bat you got to be ready to swing the bat in a situation like that with the goahead run in scoring position up next for the Pirates Michael a [Music] Taylor this Ball's chopped on the ground bare hand grab not in time he sa a nice job getting there good throw but very difficult to get anybody on that one as far as you had to go and throw you know yeah no question here's the Pirates catcher now Henry Davis two on two outs check swing now will look for this off it's all about creating opportunities and this is one of them right here two outs Bas is full now the third baseman this one is blasted a no R slam he'll take a trot around the bases and they slide in front in the sixth it's 62 the one thing the pitcher didn't want to happen just happened that's not an easy one to stum just an unbelievable turn of events here I mean they've been putting together solids all inning to set the table for and he deled big time to get him the lead huge momentum sh on that swing and now we'll see if they can hold on new pitcher in the game for the front after a four run out burst to the bottom of the six we go four five6 coming up it's the Pirates six and the Cubs Two back now for the bottom of the sixth and there's a new pitcher on the mound Carmen majins and he's got a nice lead to work with so he should come in throwing strikes attacking these [Music] hitters Here Comes Cody Bellinger the one one- one is fouled [Applause] off the pitch and another ball two and he hits a ground ball right side Gonzalez off balance throw in time and that's one out as they get the lead off hitter in the six now B third is here's the third baseman is paradus this is all about situational hitting it's crucial in this spot do whatever it takes to put the ball in play and hopefully you find a gap in the defense Suzuki stands a third with one gone of the [Applause] inning so a foul ball makes it one and two ground ball right side and that's just foul swing and a miss struck him out the number two one out left for the Cubs and next for the Cubs Nico her tries to hold up to First yes he did that's a [Music] swing the Cubs down to their final strike that's to Third and that chance handled on the Run the first that's the ball game sometimes it takes just getting away from home players can sort of come together connect a little bit more than they do when they're at home with their families and that can breed to success on the field as we saw
