both of their games the first game they scored 41 they're out scored by 51 and they lost to Steel Canyon but last week they put a big hit on Vista 41-9 they have 101 players on their roster but they're led by a sophomore and that would be their super sophomore quarterback Ryan Shaw as a softball which means he's about 15 years old he stands 61 and weighs 185 so he's a welldeveloped young man here at Central and yeah hi Morales I'm number five and I play receiver and uh defensive back here at Central Yeah so basically what we're here to do it we're here to just talk about you know obviously what the games we had last week and you you know like the games that you know we're looking forward to Ramona um this week um let's just talk about like like Emy like what do you think like like what what do you think like was like the the outcome like how do you how like how do you how do you feel about the outcome of last game like where you like was it all right like like were you like you know we thought it was like going to be like more towards favor towards us favor towards them I know the answer so not going to lie yeah after seeing you know like cuz we were watching like bro's game you know like last like before that game yeah the week before we're watching probably's game and we saw like the score so like obviously like it I was expecting it like I thought yeah we were going to win probably by because it was a it was a pretty physical game like it was really physical especially I would say especially on our end like on our end we like our defense is extremely physical I would say like if you just like the film shows that but um definitely it was definitely a physical game but I feel like little mistakes like just like I'm not going to lie little mistakes little mistak mistakes a lot a lot of flags a ton of flags like false starts like some of them not going to lie I mean I wouldn't say like it was like they came out of nowhere you know like yeah it was weird seeing a flag on that play no yeah totally when they there was one flag they threw on Coach like they said he was like too far like they he they said that he was on the field but like he was clearly out I don't know it was just like it was just some like like on the sideline I mean and yeah honestly like with um basically basically with like with everything that like went on last week um like we thought we were like obviously our coaches and us as players thought we were going to like win by you know a bigger margin just because like we feel like obviously we're like we're a way better team but coming up this week U we like our coaches have really been harping on us um because this is obviously a big this is a big game Ramon yeah Ramona is a tough opponent um obviously like they're they're um division they're division one we're division two so just just honestly like like the US playing San Diego teams is always going to be a statement you know like um them coming down here and we're having to you know play them and it's it's always there's always a good challenge you know so our coaches definitely definitely have been pushing us you know riding us a lot they like you know how like we haven't won against them exactly two years in a row exactly one them in the semifinal like to take us from the championship one G one game and to the chip and only by two scores yep so that's why like it's it's it's kind of personal for especially as guys who've been here who who were on that team that we lost to them to begin with and and then obviously last year they beat us um I think it was 34 to 20 Again by two scores so I don't know like the games have always been close but they've always just came out it always came out in you know in their but this year obviously like we're we're taking a big emphasis on on this game and you know like we've like said we've been preparing we've had we had more than usually we we watch film like every other or like every like once a week but we we've been watching film like every day like with the team like going over assignments and stuff like that like everything like we just been building up to prepare for this game and all the formations everything like we got calls for it's just like it's been a crazy week but like well I'm hyp for I'm so hyped like and and it's honestly like this is the most hype we've been like this whole year like for like like as far as coaches as far as players like everyone is is ready for this game and it's I I think it's going to be a a great like it's going to be a great game and it's going to be a good game for us to show like to other teams in our league and our conference and something like that and in division two that hey like we're a team that you know can be like we're forced to be reckoned with you know in division 2 and in our conference and you know in our league and stuff like that but yeah for for our first home game and it's our and it's our first home game like that's that was that was another thing too like it's our first time a lot of these EXC a lot of these guys like I'm a senior this is my this is my like this is my last first home yeah yeah my last first home game and yeah I'm a I mean I still got like another year but yeah it's it's it's crazy but I'm excited I'm definitely excited um I know the team's excited I know we're all amped up and ready um they could have bit more that we can prepare for for this game honestly um we just got to go and execute and play football the way we know how to play football and and yeah I just feel like we we got like we got it we just got to you know like just do our dollar coach says be physical yeah team if if P was like physical rot is like 10 times more physical and like I said like we like we we brought the physicality to Palm Desert but we also like we got to realize that we we can't just bring the the physicality to an opponent that like we're supposed to beat like these are these are games that like you know that are going to be clashing so like it's G to see how we rise to the occasion or if or do we just like you know like fall down oh like we're a D2 team we're supposed to lose you know like no like we're going to you know we're supposed to rise we got to like surprise him exactly exactly you know you got to show him we're like D1 runnerup yeah I think I think so I think that yeah I mean I don't I don't want to be a d one but we could be our school's our school's just tiny like but I we have a good team though like that's what I'm saying like we're like we're competing like I think what are we number two in or like number three in D2 or something like that like I'm not sure I we're up there though in in division 2 so I don't know it's just exciting you know getting to face a a good opponent and we definitely been preparing but but yeah so we're excited and thank you for allowing us to you know give our little Spiel on last game and this game and you weather like well otai Ranch is going to have more of a problem because of humidity than we will have because of heat and so that has been a non-issue the uh teams are are getting set the uh Spartans will kick off and uh we'll get to that very shortly as uh we're just about underway John what are your feelings you heard what the players had to say yeah first I want to say Carol I guess I'm without a job now those kids did a great job planning all that recording that uh you know had their talking points so very impressed and hopefully that's the first of many as I understand and I'm not sure which teachers in charge or decided to come up with that or which administrator great idea what uh I expect here tonight Carol is as the players mentioned the last two times he schools have played Ramona has won by a two touchdown margin 34 to 20 last year that was up at Ramona so we'll see how it goes this year as Central getting ready to kick off their first home game of this 2024 season and of course the players excited about that fact that they are at home for the first time this the third week of the regular season getting ready to uh do the kicking for the Spartans kicking off will be Miguel Vega Miguel's a senior and everybody's ready the Spartan Sidelines are full deep kick it'll be field it at the five out to the 10 has a wall in front across the 20 the 25 turns on the Jets across the 40 to the 45 out to the 48 yd line great return and John as an old kickoff returner the way that wall set up beautifully so what are the uh Spartans going to be doing on the defense who's Gada stepped in front picked it off it'll be Spartan football they have it first and 10 on the Ramona 48 yd line Long Count back to pass PES in the flat it is complete breaks one tackle breaks another tackle out across the 40 to about the 37 yd line nice pickup as uh Angel Vasquez a sophomore with reception an 11 yd gain and the first down one play one first down for Central they're now inside the 40 on the 36 yd line Jimenez brings him out vesa the single set back Morales goes in motion it is beesa the Workhorse in the back field he'll pick up about three make it four yards our officials this evening John Seaman is the referee it is Shan McLaughlin the Umpire Bruce hardock head linesman John Rob the line judge fourman crew that's all we've got second we'll call it second and [Applause] seven three yard pickup for Via same formation same motion fake the handoff to Via rolling to his right pitches outside gets a block gets it downfield down to the 25 yd line nice pitch back to Emiliano Morales and John you remember Morales he's a junior this year he's put on some weight got a little bit taller and he's a burner and that will be considered a pass Carol because he did Pitch it forward and the ball as you said is now inside the 30 on the 26 so that was a pickup of eight [Applause] yards it is first and 10 from the 24 yd line handoff it is viesa gets a block carries it down to about the 22 yd line nice Block in there by Alexander zabal the senior center the central does have a veteran line out there these players as they spoke before the game they have been in the program now some of them for as many as 3 [Music] years some of them four years Jared Martin Jimenez from the shotgun right next to him is vesa snap back looks downfield fires it is complete in the flat and the pass completed to CJ aosta another junior he carry it down to they'll spot it on the 15 it's another first down first and 10 okay we'll call it the 16 that would be a pickup of that pitch and catch of seven yards which was enough for the first down they're third on this drive from the pistol PESA off right tackle has a big but it closes quickly but he still picks up six yards PESA down just at the 10 yard line it'll be second and four at the 10 Shuffle in some new fresh playersa is a third-year starter on the Spartan offense and he is uh looks like he's put on some weight a little bit tougher just as quick as always comes with a and a direct snap to Via on the Wildcat and he'll get just a yard Ramona ready for that via is 58 1885 anymore that is a prototypical running back yes and he started two years ago as a sophomore he weighed 165 so that's the 20 extra pounds he's put on but he has not lost any of his quickness it'll be third down and about three at at the nyd line looks like they're in the Wildcat again Wildcat again via the single set back gets a snap this time he tries to the left side gets it into the one yd line it'll be first and goal from the one vesa worms his way down to the one so that would be an eight- y pickup now you're looking at first and goal four cracks to get in from here as Central knock in on the door in their initial Drive of the homes season here the Spartans first and goal from the one it is a wildcat snap directly to viesa viesa takes it right into the end zone for the score his fifth touchdown on the year so the Spartan faithful and there are many here celebrate and this pointed out what we heard the players talking about in our pregame show is we want to show San Diego we're a good team we'll have the point after is Ramona's featured Runner Timothy pedes pettes got stuffed he maybe got a yard and we'll give him a yard it'll be second and nine the uh Spartan Defense Daven Hartfield and Ryan Smith shut him down they're the interior lineman and Hartfield especially had an excellent year last year as a junior and the Spartans are counting on him this year to lead the defense as an interior lineman they gave him two with forward progress so it is second and eight empty backfield Shaw takes the snap drops back looks looks now he tucks it under his arm and will try and take it up the middle but he is stopped by Gavin MOA MOA another guy three years experience playing for uh rookie paa also coming in to help on that tackle was these sparton number 22 Jared Martin he stood up his man at the line scrimmage and then just went down the line and assisted Gavin on the tackle and I believe you mentioned that Martin's already got a scholarship offer and he's received it he has committed to TCU cared 63 220 he is a senior he got starts as a freshman if you remember John oh yes on both sides of the football snap back empty backfield dumping it off it's a little screen in the middle and it is is it going to be a catch no it's incomplete he he was tackled he would not have gotten any yards he was tackled right at the line of scrimmage as once again the Spartans sniffed out that uh interior or inside screen we had a flag on the play obviously to climb because that will bring up fourth and long Noah Gerardo Flores is the one that snipped that out and actually hit the ball carrier the same time the ball got there and that was an inside screen where there's not supposed to be any defensive players there they're all supposed to be rushing or dropping so excellent read on that play by Noah Gerardo Flores there was holding on Ramona it was declined that'll bring up a punt situation and James n is back to punch and looks like Martin is back to looks like Jared Martin is back to receive wobbly snap but the kick gets away high kick it'll bounce at the 30 and go out of Bounds at about the 28 yd line the Spartans will put it in play there first and 10 on their own 28 yd line rter your huddle they are though being good host they're allowing the Bulldogs to substitute four players in and out man is rolling to his left looking downfield got a man open and it's incomplete Angel Vasquez was wide open down the middle of the field no one was covering him but because the quarterback was rolling out that uh Jimenez didn't see him he's looking at the receiver looking at that side of the field that he's rolling to so this will bring up now fourth and long so the Spartans will punt as that is the first incompleted pass out of five attempts on the night four HZ the Spartans snapped his back good snap nice spiraling kick fair catch called for at the 35 yd line and that was probably a good thing by Noah Bia it'll be Ramona first and 10 on their own 36 yd line it's gay night and you multiple formations they actually started the game in the eye formation and threw the interception so then they came back the next series of downs in the pistol or shotgun now they're back to the eye formation and picked up four yards on that first Carry of this initial Drive Shaw now again from the shotgun Perez is next to [Music] him and back to pass looking as a little bit of time it is complete over the middle a nice catch and a nice run after the catch and I think it was Ethan graa on the catch and the carry take it all the way down to the 44 yd line Ramona in Spartan territory for the first time tonight and the first first down and the first completed pass and three attempts for the sophomore sha 2202 play in the first quarter Central lead 7 nothing and the Bulldogs are driving again the shotgun Sha will keep it and Shaw who is their second leading ground Gainer will pick up five before he is mobbed by the blue and that is not an option play Carol that's a call play where it is sending and you he is to drop back like he's going to pass and do what's called a quarterback draw there's no option he's not reading anything except which hole to try to hit through and that resulted in a nice six-yard gain on first down second and four whereas the Spartans don't huddle the Bulldogs do and take a lot of time Shaw again under Center takes a snap drops back chased out of the pocket turns down field fires it is complete and the pass good for a first down as Noah bedia with the catch I think Ramona found something that right now is working yeah that was an excellent uh Play Fake by Shaw as the whole interior line of the Spartans was going after the halfback and meanwhile Shaw just rolled out on a bootleg and hit the wide open receiver NOA first and 10 spotted on the 25 full house backfield with an HB handoff is in the middle and there may be a yard maybe the carry Ty Drews Ty plays linebacker on defense so they put him in there to get those tough inside yards the Bulldogs bring it out second and about [Applause] [Music] six power eye formation hand off to the first back and Powers his way in Wyatt malson 61 185 they go to the big backs when they get in the Red central leads Ramona 7 nothing Ramona with a power eye formation again snap back hand off to the first back through he's got a big hole in the middle and that is Logan Barrera and picks up the first down and I'm sorry it wasn't Barrera it was Timothy Paredes that was a nice six-yard pickup Carol so it will be first and 10 the ball is outside the 10 on the 12 during that timeout Carol we could see that the defensive coordinator Brian Martin and then also the line coach Joey Denton were giving Specific Instructions hand off again right in the middle with the big guy and that was Jacob Parker a sophomore Parker picks up three make it four second and six right now it looks like the Bulldogs have found some success knocking the central defensive line off the ball they've got those big backs in in the jumbo package so they actually have the five linman blocking and then two of the running backs are blocking for the ball carrier that's all power Big 10 football John again that power eye Back Field the handoff and this time it is stopped for No Gain three Spartans hit him led by Jared Martin and no gain it'll bring up third at about between six and seven and it's not too early to take a look Carol if they do not convert here they have an excellent field goal kicker Ramona is one of the best soccer programs in San Diego CIF section and their kicker is obviously a soccer player so he's well within his range third and about seven spread formation from the shotgun Shaw takes a snap hands off in the middle and there is it was a nice fake because it faked me out but didn't fake out Jared Martin because he was all over Mr Shaw who threw it incomplete into the end zone that was a fade into the back corner of the end zone and because of the pressure by Martin Shaw had to let the ball go sooner than he wanted to and it fell incomplete so now we are going to get that field goal attempt from the kicker I believe his name is pronounced James node it's KWD he know [Music] Matthew director as a principal what do you see in the first half well I mean right now I mean the the biggest thing is is that our defense is is playing a great football game you know I mean and we've talked about that over and over in all our games is that our defense is going to have to step step up and put us in good field position but I'm going to tell you our offense is really doing a good job uh UPF front we are getting banged up a little bit but these kids are showing hard out there and and they're matching matching up well with Rona right now one of the things that joh and I have noticed from the get-go with Coach P is if you're on that team you're going to play and the next man up is ready and we have seen that for what eight years that he's been here that um you're out there busting your butt during the two days you're there you know in 110 degrees you're holding the tackling dummy he's going to get you in the game well and and that's a credit to to coach Peña and his coaching staffs I mean it's not just about the starters it's about everybody on that team cuz cuz as you say you never know when it's going to get your chance to get on the field and when you have to step up and take you know take the Reigns and and and it's just a credit to his coaching staff and and Coach paa the preparation is not just 22 players it's all 60 of them because they never know when they're going to get in the game so it like I said just credit to coach Peña yeah and it I mean and it's great for the kids because you know if I'm out there two a days everything else and I never get in you know I'm on Splinter Patrol but um you know it's just great for the kids and especially when they're sophomores they got some playing CL when they're seniors that they you know okay here's my chance yeah and that and that's the biggest thing because I think you know you you looked over the years like you said over the last you know seven eight years with Coach Peña I mean we're not out there trying to you know just have the starters play you know the full game they want to get everybody in the game because you never know and and it gives them an opportunity to be a part of this program and that's why we continue to get kids that want to come out and be a part of Spartan football exactly I'm going to play and okay let's talk about the other football the the really fun fast action fast-paced the uh girls flag football that is exciting oh my you know and and and honestly I really encourage people to come out and watch this year you know last year was uh you know the inaugural season and you got to see girls play and and they were learning the game they know the game this year they had a they had a great off season they did some summer you know seven on seven things you now watch these girls they're throwing the ball they have you know multiple different plays coming at different looks defensively they have some different schemes it is exciting football and and I'm telling you we have some great teams in the valley one of the things that hurt us last year and playoffs was they said m a lot of our teams didn't play those San Diego schools well we're now playing those San Diego schools and when you see like cley who goes you know 6 and0 in a in in a you know two-day event over there in San Diego and and kxo and and Central and Southwest all of them are getting involved and they're playing great flag football I love to watch it well you and I have mentioned this before in umpiring I prefer umpiring the the girls softball hey they play a better game than most of the boys are playing these days yeah well and it's a it's a fast game that's the thing you know the smaller field everybody goes oh no the smaller field means that there's so much action going on in there and you get to see some great plays with less people on it softball is the same thing that smaller field is a quick game and you get to see a lot of action and it's bang bang and in baseball it's a little slower but I mean I I just I love the fact that there are some girls that were playing other sports that have now decided to play flag football because they got to see what it's like and they go I want to be a part of that so which is which is great for all the schools in the valley well and it you know it just opens up a whole another Avenue you know and you know somebody that has four sisters two daughters you know I can appreciate this is something that they can really wrap themselves up in well and the thing is now I mean girls flag football doesn't stop in high school anymore no Collegian you know girls flag football so some of these girls have might have an opportunity to go play at the next level in a sport that you know like you said a couple years ago nobody even talked about and now it's it's set a level which is amazing you know if we had written a book about this a couple of years ago we could have retired exactly the uh you know and where you know there are books I know because there are coaches that have never coached this and you know there they thumbing through the books and coming up with stuff and it's just it's just a whole another Avenue that gets the kids on campus involved yeah well and it brings another you know like like our Central Community is amazing and our fan base is is great and this just gives them one extra thing that they can come out and watch with us what other sports going on right now so we have volleyball uh and they're doing great they've been in a couple of tournaments most of the Valley Schools right now play a lot of tournaments in San Diego to get prepared for the leag uh you know start of the league so it's great to see that our our team uh went up this last week uh and and won the copper division of I think it was the Sweetwater tournament you know so it's little things like that that are preparing these kids for that we have cross country uh girls tennis uh girls golf um you know or well girls and boys cross country so I mean it's just so much fun to see them get out there and and get back into it you know as a school year be has begun and of course you have a new athletic director and I didn't recognize him without a camera yeah very true that's the one thing most people that that have been around the valley uh Sports you know probably have seen uh Gabriel Ponce out there taking pictures he works you know a little bit for Max PR uh does a little things on his own on the side and and he has the experience coming to us from Hopeville High School uh and so we're we're just happy to have uh uh you know Mr Pon with us you know kind of being able for him it's great because he's going from a you know small school like cville where kind of everybody knows everybody to a little bit bigger uh environment here but he's loving the experience and enjoying being a part of our our our Central Family okay Craig anything else you know I like I said I just appreciate kxo I love the fact that you're out here getting this out and letting our our our fans be able to hear the game when they can't make it here I mean that's what it's about we we want everybody to have an opportunity to come out and and hear our game if they can't make it here on a Friday night and I will share something with you that I just found out that um in 1932 the central Union High School or Central High School Board of Trustees made a motion at one of their meetings to allow kxo radio to broadcast Central football games if they did a good job oh well I think you done a pretty good job so 90 some years later you know we're still here so somebody must have been happy but you know the uh Bill gay came across that in some minutes and I think that you sent him the minutes and um you know that that from 1932 that's the earliest week in pin wow you know our association with Central and uh and football well we we hope that we'll continue uh for for another you know I don't know how many over almost 100 years give or take okay and I have to bring up Dr tacky oh yeah Dr tacky and our and our sound production okay he was able to provide us with a nice pregame six-minute players talking about last week's game and what's coming up and and also we're able to work with him and with the student athletes utilizing not only our Airwaves but our YouTube and our Facebook page which have significant reach to get these kids out there and you know I just met Dr tacky for the first time tonight we' have been corresponding by email but we finally met in person tonight and it's something we are really you and I are aware many of the San Diego schools take Imperial Valley Schools lightly and they you know which is to you know Central Imperial Bry advantage and uh let's also remind the listening audience that Ramona has beaten Central the last three times they've played so that's another reason that these Spartans on this team want to beat this Bulldog Club big play here on third down but you get the feeling Ramona is going to go for it if they don't pick up the first down third and 13 do me back to pass DOI is hit as he lets it go it goes incomplete and with a big legal hit was Gavin Mora
