College Football Quarterback Rankings Post Week 1 + QB Needy NFL Teams

today on with the first pick we're ranking the quarterbacks from week one of the college football season our favorite and not so favorite efforts from names you know Rick and some you should get to know in the coming weeks and months we'll also tell you which NFL teams are in the market for some of these QBs we'll even highlight a couple of non quarterback standouts from last week's College action his name rhymes with Havis trunner he was pretty good uh and there were a ton of candidates outside of Travis Hunter shoes from as well I'm Ryan Wilson that's Rick Spillman this is episode 176 and Rick before we get going how many days to the 2025 NFL drave wow it's creeping up on us there wison there are 233 days left to the 2025 NFL draft this is such a big show Rick that Debo has Graces from what you like to call the Ivory Tower and he's here with us DEA not an iy Tower right it's Ivory not Ivy get that conf there was ID growing up the Ivory Tower right there you go yeah the best part Debo is that Rick specifically asked me is it Ivy or Ivory I said Ivory and then he repeated Ivy yeah J Miss rash sliding down from the uh Ivory Tower or is that pretty slick did you miss a steo happy to be back I am actually sitting about six feet from Pete prisco right now so being with you guys and being close to Pete life life couldn't get better oh yeah so Pete's on pushing the pile the new NFL podcast with Mike rener and Kyle long he's doing his power rankings I think he's going to be on every Tuesday so look for that um he looks like a place on that set I'll watched it quickly before we came on here by the way if you missed it executive director of the Senior Bowl Jim naggie joined us last week to give us a peek behind the curtain to their process and how they build their senior bow watch list you can check that out in Old podcast feed and Rick do us a favor take a second to hit the old like button here on YouTube and since football is back leave us a f star review on Apple podcast and if you do and uh include a name of an FBS or FCS player Rick and I will evaluate that player for you on the show also I'm just gonna throw in Ryan is this is brand new yeah we've always tossed out Apple podcast but now you can add comments on Spotify so if you have Spotify app open right below that play button you can leave a comment so we'll be checking that as well what are you gonna say Rick can you clarify five star review I brought it up to the people above me in the uh IV Tower and just it goes nowhere if you leave five star review because every time I think they have to a festar prospect for us to review them well that's not true because we're going to talk about some guys who weren't five stars coming out of high school that made our list today we say five star review because that's that's the best you can rating you can get on Apple podcast and Spotify and it helps grow the show now if you have an issue with that uh we'll have a a side call and I'll work through it with you but that's that's why we tell the people to do it all right let's get to it deo's got things to do Rick because he's very important it doesn't involve necessarily hanging out with us so uh I think we should start so we're going to do this each and every week we'll have our QB rankings based on how the college uh week went and uh this is not this is GNA be a fluid list the names will change based on who teams are playing and the matchups there are a lot of quarterbacks who played FCS teams or weren't playing High Caliber FBS teams no no offense so we didn't watch them this week jayen milro for example we'll certainly watch him coming up soon but these are the guys that Rick and I put our heads together said we wanted to talk about and then we ranked them separately and we came together for a list and we're going to talk about him Debo flash that list up there from our buddies at NextGen and uh I cannot stress enough NextGen prospect.com has the best rosters and death charts for college football I use them on Saturdays just to see who's who of guys I'm not familiar with you see there at the top I won't read out all the names Rick but shadur Sanders number one for both of us and then you uh took some crazy pills you had Garrett nusb nus meire going number two he had a great uh evening uh battling Miller Moss we'll talk about that in a second and my number two was cam Ward and then uh I'll I'll read out who's who as we get through these lists in terms of how we had them ranked so I don't have to read them here the people that are are trying to listen as they walk the dog or drive to work or whatever but um Rick any thoughts on this initial list as you look at it because you haven't seen it live yet no I have not seen it live yet so uh no I'm surprised that we both agreed that Sanders was a number one quarterback this week even though and you stated that you know we were trying to find uh the these quarterbacks playing against good rosters good teams and don't take anything away from North Dakota State because that sir good football team and uh gave Colorado everything they had out in Colorado so reason why they've won so many championships there and they have a very good roster but I thought like you did that Sanders kind of stuck out to me the most as far as big play making ability down the field getting outside the pocket I know he's not a scramble threat but good enough athlete but the thing that I really like hey hold on before you give The Scouting Report we're going to take a trip back into the time machine from week week two 2023 season uh they won their first game against TCU Colorado did then they beat Nebraska and then you and I talked about it in Popp or drop we can call it po or drop here if you want uh Debo roll the tape where where are you on shador in week two pop pop keep popping them man he played good again this week I think the third quarterback for me right yeah but let me ask you this he's a top 50 player right the one thing that I will say as we watch all these quarterbacks that after the first two there is going to be a mad scramble through the season because there's about seven of them yes it's going to be a deep quarterback class but there's about seven of them that are going to be fighting for who's the third quarterback off the board by the time we get to the draft in 226 days that's right so you got to answer the question is he a top 50 guy right now yes I think so man it's hard not I don't know what the argument would be that he's not no not right now but got some like I said the big win at TCU but we got a whole season ahead of us but after week two he's in the top 50 and I think he's a first rounder so that was uh 51 weeks ago a little blast from the past we both still look pretty handsome that's good uh I want to mention a couple things top 50 he this guy is he can moonwalk into the top 50 right now uh I think he's going to moonwalk into the top 15ish top 10 the other thing I will mention is that you called it Drake May was number two 51 weeks ago and then our guy Jaden Daniels came out of nowhere not out of nowhere but he made his move and that's going to be the conversation with the guys in this list and some guys that are probably aren't on this list so let's start with shador at the top North Dakota State as you talk as you talked about and by the way cam Miller out of North Dakota State I think we're gonna be talking about him at some point too their quarterback he had a great great game as well but uh shador went 26 to 36 445 yards four touchdowns one interception which was a fluky interception and again he showed off his athleticism 31 Scouts in attendance Rick yeah no and just like he started last year strongly came out the gate strong this game the two things like I said now that I'm allowed to give you a quick synopsis since I got my hand slapped about five seconds ago for jumping the gun um is that the Deep ball accuracy the big play ability the ability to get outside the pocket but he looks to keep his eyes down the field and made some tremendous throws without running first uh and he hung in the pot he took some shots now the offensive line is a little better but he took some shots and delivered the ball on time and in Rhythm even though he knew he was going to get hit the only criticism in this game is he does get a little greedy when you have the game locked up finish the game you don't need to add stats or as uh Mr coach Sanders said you know trying to be a good teammate well good teammate is winning the game before you try to get a ball a deep ball down the field and run to another receiver to get him a big play just run the clock out and go go on with a victory that was the last Drive they if they ran the ball the game's over and people were questioning why in lord's name would you throw the ball and and Coach Prime talked about it afterwards that a lot of his wide receivers at Big days he wanted to get one of his other wide receivers uh some stat pading going on and it all it didn't almost cost him but it it it was a head scratcher of a play I I made this note Rick and tell me what you think because you know I'm one prone to hyperbole uh last year Michael pennick Jr had the best deep ball in college football Sanders is number one right now I would say that yes okay all right not too crazy good I love it and I think I don't think U are fooled with his athleticism but I think he he sneaks up on you athletically he can run if he needs to he's not his dad but he's plenty good in space and I wrote down he's like CJ or Bryce or will Levis if has to run the ball in terms of athleticism no no he's a little slower than those guys interesting all right we'll keep it we'll put a pin in that one but you and I both agree number one for the week and it was a competitive uh week of quarterbacking um top 10 pick yes as of week one if we're ranking him today yes I mean he's QB one right now based on the the way these quarterbacks played I think going off of one week of rankings yes that's why we both have them at the top of our list that's what that means okay gotcha and my comp is I'm not even gonna say it I was gonna say something crazy just to get you fired up but it's too early in the show all right let's go to Garrett nus Meer nusb we talked about him over under I want to ask an over under his dad fifth overall pick in the draft over under fifth pick for shador see this is why we miss Debo yeah that's a great question Debo yeah no you know he comes down from management and comes down and gets his hands dirty and then wants to participate the show's about Deo today thanks for participating debos I like the question what what do you think Rick five over create some social content he's trying to help us Rick uh all right uh as of today yeah well I mean you can go tomorrow if you want okay I I'll put a dollar that he's top five so five one through five is what you're taking he'll go one through five as of today that's a dollar bet I don't know if you have the access to the the Dollar Bet wipe we have their Deo from producer Harry but uh I'll go five plus just for the sake of [Music] conversation that graphic shout out to producer Harry for that one all right I'll go five over just to be different but I I I mean that's a great question love it and we have content all right next up nusb nus Meer oh Lord we talked about him over the in the spring and over the summer our buddy uh Bud Elliot turned this on to him from 247 back in the spring and he was better than advertised in my mind Rick now he's number two on your list I had him number four on my list but they're all bunched up there um I thought he did not look phased at any point in that game the ball came on out on time he understood what the defense was trying to do and if he had to dump it dump it down he dumped it down if he had to throw with anticipation to the sidelines he did that I thought he showed great touch on the Deep ball only gave his receiver a chance to play it on those little inside Fades he ran in the end zone the only thing I had an issue with was I wish he had called Timeout on that last goal line drive in which his teammate the wide receiver was called for um illegal formation or whatever the call was other than that it felt like a as close to spotless of a performance from a guy who hasn't played a ton of football yeah no and you could get help from the coaching staff too to call timeout as well especially if someone's up there in the booth and sees it yep so and remember he's in the heart of the B he of the I mean you're nitpicking there bud absolutely no I agree I I I love the way he played especially after watching that Notre Dame Texas A&M game the night before I just I agree with everything he said he looked like a season vet out there um command of the offense in Rhythm on time at all levels of the field made big plays when they needed great accuracy to put the ball in place where he put it the ball when I watched him the one thing that really jumped out to me on the tape is that he doesn't have a lot of hitches in the pocket he'll take the snap hitch once the ball's out and the receiver is just getting out of his break so he may not have the strongest arm he has more than enough arm strength but he puts it in tight widows because of his anticipation where the receivers going to be they look like they weren in syn all night him and the receivers for the most part so this is one of those guys Ryan could have be the third quarterback in LSU that maybe was a Saturday guy coming into the season and if he performs like this and he could be the next Riser out of the LSU quarterbacks we saw it with we saw it with Jaden Daniels amen be nus me's time and credit to both defenses I thought USC got after on defense looked nothing like the USC defenses we're accustomed to seeing and they gave nus some looks that he probably weren't wasn't expecting did not look phased at all again his dad Doug nus Meer played in the league his dad is the U QB coach I believe in Philadelphia so pedigree certainly helps um I have him as a top 32 guy based on one week of film like I would I would he feels like to me you're gonna hate this but he's he's somewhere in between the spectrum of Matt Jones and Joe burrow now you can decide where you put that slider but the way Matt Jones played his last year at Alabama was good coming out at Alabama he had really good receivers uh and he was a rhythm timing thrower he did I thought M Jones had that's why M Jones got drafted 15th overall to new England that's right that's my point not the ma Jones that um we saw once he got into New England all right let's take a quick break and we come back we'll take a look at the rest of this list right after this my first hot take of the air when Sunday football isn't enough dislike that take great take that another pregame show will put you over the top I'm all in let's go viral here every Sunday all the Insight you need on CVS Sports Network [Music] all right Rick we are back next up a guy that wasn't on my radar but you brought him up and I'm glad you did he's number three on my list he's number three on your list he's number one in USC's heart Miller Moss uh I gave him the edge of n just because of the way the game ended and some of the throws he made down the stretch uh he took a couple sacks but um he threw in the face of pressure and I was absolutely blown away I think I told you that if he were the quarterback for Texas A&M they win that game maybe going away but great news for for USC especially now that they have that defense sorted out what' you think yeah he was number three on my list too and didn't know much about this kid he didn't make the summer scouting School list that we talked about last year though and you take it for a GRA with a grain of salt in a holiday bow he threw for 37 yards and six touchdowns in his first career start so he's always in the shadow of Caleb Williams he's not the athlete that Caleb Williams is but boy did he put on a show for his first start under the bright lights like that and was in total command of the offense I I don't know his size you talked to me a little bit that he may be undiz but this kid is an ideal fit in my opinion in some kind of West Coast system where it's Rhythm timing getting the ball out accuracy everything that he did I was these were the two best quarterbacks Technically when you watch them play against each other I mean you could have argued either one of those above Sanders I just gave Sanders the nod but I would put these two and it was that was one of the most entertaining games to watch this past weekend was these two quarterbacks uh going against each other unofficially Miller's listed at 61 205 and typically you take you say guys are taller than they are not it's unusual to find someone who's 65 who's actually listed at 61 so we'll see uh he did have a couple balls knocked down in that fourth quarter Drive in the middle of the field one was almost intercepted if not for a great play by the uh whoever that was on USC but man he was spinning it and he looked a lot like nus meire in terms of being comfortable knowing where to go with the ball getting it out on time throwing with accuracy we saw that o OB uh Odell Beckham catch in the middle of the field by uh kyen Johnson I think his name is the wide receiver 10 kyen Hudson excuse me yeah um Caron later came back and dropped two easy balls but whatever that was a fantastic catch and um they have some they have some dudes on both sides of the ball so that was that was fun I like that a lot all right next up finally my guy cam Ward who I had number two you ridiculously had him five so I'll just say this cam Ward plays the game of football on Saturdays like he's in the backyard playing Thanksgiving football with the family without a care in the world ice water in his veins whatever you want to call it he threw that interception and we saw some other quarterbacks throw interceptions this weekend and and their heads dropped for the rest of the game first of all the throw was just off I understood what he's trying to do you're not crazy about him throwing across his body but he has a laser and he will throw off platform and he can throw from every arm angle like he's turning into or whatever you want to say look he's Patrick Mahomes I think the issue for me and I would imagine for you Rick you want to see more on time in the pocket get the ball out instead of playing herob Bowl yeah athletic check arm Talent check swag the way he plays a position check there's no question about any of that I deci he holds the ball too long it is it's like street ball you go out there and run a button hook down by the garbage cans and I'll run around for 15 minutes and then hit you uh when Bobby Bag of Donuts uh our neighbor goes down falls down because he uh tripped over a brick in the middle of the road so that's the only thing that I had issues with is it just didn't look in Rhythm and on time but offs schedu playmaking he may besides Sanders he may be the best off- schedule playmaker in this weeks and I gave him credit for all that it just like it looked like he just held the ball and he knew he was a better athlete than everyone else on the field so it never looked in Rhythm on time or him getting through progressions things he's have he's going to have to do as an NFL quarterback but the raw talent is there it's can that other things come along and and to me just watching it that'd be the question I have is he just going to be a street baller or can he actually play in Rhythm and on time in an NFL offense I think this is different than Caleb because I and I imagine you felt the same way because he was your qb1 throughout I felt that Caleb could play on time but he was running for his life behind that offensive line it feels like sometimes cam isn't getting through the reads fast enough or isn't coming off that first read before he decides to run it's a little different but he's exciting and that touchdown he threw in the third quarter in the back of the end zone split in two Defenders yeah very few people can do that yeah Bobby Bag of Donuts has just been signed by University of Florida to play the secondary because they got torched yeah that was an R whooping yes it was uh first round for cam yeah uh I don't know I'd say yes because of the raw skills I would say I'd have some hesitation yeah till I see him get Rhythm and on time by the way I should have mentioned it earlier you mentioned um Miller Moss as a as a potential I mean obviously coming up that good game I think's a West Coast offense guy is that what you said yeah he's a West yeah he's an ideal West Coast I would take him on day three based on one week could takee oh yeah yeah okay I want to get that make sure we're on record for that all right next up again I question your judgment but you do have 30 years of NFL experience so I'll give you a break here you had Carson Beck four one ahead of Cam Ward I had Carson Beck five uh behind Ward Miller moss nus and then then Carson Carson was an ass to a whole bunch most of his throws came close to the line of scrimmage it's not his fault they whipped up on Clemson especially in the second half but uh SEL me on Carson back based on one week could tape yeah just his size I think in the second half he seemed to get in better Rhythm I think he he's a quarterback that can uh play from the pocket he's not going to just rely on athletic skill set that he has more than enough arm talent I think he could put it in tight Windows when he has to I think he he was just steady nothing really popped out and gave me a wild performance but I just thought overall just from a steady solid consistent performer especially the way he played in the second half that you can't you know downgrade him for this performance right so but it just wasn't anything some of those other guys we talked about there were some spectacular plays now that grab your attention I don't know if he grabbed my attention on that type of spectacular plays uh but he was solid and steady and uh I'm not going to downgrade him I did I moved him down just in this rankings this week uh but he was more consistent out of the pocket than Ward not near the off schedu playmaking ability ward has but you're going to have to play from the pocket in the NFL yeah no I agree with all that um I counted 12 dropbacks before he threw the ball down field and that was just a slant uh he missed a receiver on the slant In The End Zone but just missed him high then had to came back with a nice back shoulder throw it again it's a small sample size you can't ding him for that moving on he's still a first- round pick I mean not D him he's still a first- round pick all right next up we're talking about deos guy Drew Aller new offensive coordinator uh apparently the offensive coordinators come who came up from Kansas understood the forward pass because they allowed Drew Allard to push the ball down the field which is nice to see uh you had Drew Aller seventh I had him sixth Deo did you get to watch Drew Aller while you were in between playing golf on the West Coast or did you read about it later I snuck that in are you happy with Drew because I was happy with him incredibly happy he had a really errant first pass and settled in and was awesome big things to come we'd be on the path towards a big 10 title if it wasn't for Rick yeah no kidding way to go Rick uh so Rick Big Arm we knew about he's throwing ropes down the field I was glad he's allowed to open it up and some folks were probably excited to learn that he's a really good athlete too they they run him a little bit on those those rpos yeah I have I still have issues with this kid's accuracy oh okay so I I understand you know Debo Debo whatever his name is good Lord you forgot him already yeah I think he forgot us he just came down like I said to fill in I just struggle with his accuracy even on his completions now I saw some of the nice sideline throws and down the field and all the stuff you're talking about but it seems like the receivers have to adjust to his ball now they completions but he's not hitting the receiver in stride consistently enough for me so hopefully he gets better um but I want to see his accuracy and his ability to hit receivers in stride uh as we get through the season that's my biggest question on him all right that's interesting where I think he's a day two pick yeah oh yeah yeah I wouldn't take this guy in the first round and I'm gonna this is going to be an old a senior moment maybe for definitely For Me Maybe for you I can't remember the quarterback's name but who transferred from Georgia to Washington the big strong armed guy that was drafted in the fourth round a few years ago end up playing for the Colts I can't remember his name he reminds me a little bit of him een thank you Jacob e yes I get Jacob e Vice but I think all has a chance to be better yes I do okay uh but a lot of similarities and E flamed out just so you remember no I remember that part I thought he was gonna go much higher is a junior like I know some others on this list so could easily come back yep um we'll be talking about coming back after in in a couple names here next up but I thought I I liked his performance a little bit better me and Debo a little bit higher on him than Rick is right now Rick doesn't like 65 laser thrower thing about Rick is man he's real see that's why he missed Evo that terion Arnold speaking about Rick um next up Riley Leonard Notre Name by way of Duke Riley Leonard to to quote the late great Denny green is exactly who I thought he was he's going to run and he's going to run some more and he's going to throw the ball 15 yards down the field and after that all bets are off uh it was that quarterback play the Notre Dame Tex andm game wasn't quite up to Snuff compared to LSU USC but I think you have to feel pretty good if you're Riley Leonard in your first game for Notre Dame I thought he did some things that you can build on yeah I just I don't I don't couple of things I don't think for as good of athlete he is and he can make plays with his legs I don't think he's a great off schedule thrower when he's out to his right or to his left left and I have can accuracy issues with him as well yeah uh and sometimes it looks like he's almost aiming the ball instead of throwing the ball so uh good game manager but not a unique playmaker and you had him you had him above Aller interestingly so you had him sixth on your list I had him seventh on my list um I'll be interested to hear you answer this question because if you agree that day two for Aller I have Riley as a day three like mid day three guy right now I I think he's third round I still think right now we'd be considered in that that third round range okay and again you know quarterbacks always get pushed up and this is only one week of conversation so a lot can certainly change speaking of which last on both our lists at 8 Conor Wegman during summer scouting you and our buddy Mike rener were a little higher on Conor than I was that did not work out well for Conor he had two interceptions both not great interceptions those were in the second quarter I believe and he struggled before that and he strugg struggled to rebound after that it's only one game and he's young and he's coming off the foot in only played four games last year so on and so forth but man this was disheartening to watch for someone that you you think has a chance to be a top 32 guy yeah and you know trying to learn a new offense but man this poor kid I felt bad watching him he's okay athlete nothing in Rhythm accuracy off looked robotic and everything he was trying to do locked in on receivers uh nothing close to what I saw in last year's exposure I mean the biggest game I saw him in was uh the Miami game uh down in Florida but other than that I I based off of this I wouldn't even draft a kid based off of this performance yeah I mean if you knew nothing about this kid and you came to watch one game he would not stick out to you as someone that you would want to draft to an NFL team to be a franchise quarterback that can change but this was a tough start very tough start very tough start all right so we'll certainly monitor Conor Wegman and I talked to Folks at think he'll be fine and that's that's okay he had a bad game everyone has a bad game Diva pointed this out to me Rick that next week's uh schedule isn't exactly as high powerered as this one so some names that we'll definitely be watching and we'll see how this plays out Texas at Michigan oh big one yeah so we'll get to watch will Howard who had a who struggled a little bit but had the pick six at the end uh will J Will Johnson excuse me the quarterback for Michigan last week and then of course Quinn yers we didn't talk about him today they played Colorado State and he he had a pretty easy go of that but we'll talk about him as well some other games that I have my eye on and we can certainly discuss this USF has a quarterback named Byron Brown that I keep hearing our buddy Li doell brought him up to me they play at Alabama and of course we'll talk jayen milose so that's a potential game and then just like the video we saw from 51 weeks ago Colorado's at Nebraska that would be a big game that will be because of roli the Phenom freshman uh now quarterback he had a pretty good opener uh yeah so like a Patrick Mahomes oh let's let's kind of like put a little something on ice here for a minute but but You' seen him walk into the stadium right he has curly hair and his little uh Oakleys that he wears he looks just like Patrick Mahomes yeah that's great okay so by the way this will be a I I you know because we have to talk about this matchup for sure next week because Colorado looked like their offensive line was a little better their defense was a little better but North Dakota State now their offense was pretty good and put went up and down the field on Colorado's defense um especially running the ball which I think is a concern for them so but it's just like Florida what happened to Florida State I know we're not even talking about them yet but boy kudos to Bill O'Brien up at BC and and uh what they were able to do go down there and just physically just beat the hell out of out of Florida State last night in Tallahassee would you rather be Mike norell or Billy Napier right now either neither I'd rather do this podcast than yikes uh some other games that we could potentially keep an eye on Bowling Green which is J.J McCarthy's Nemesis they're at Penn State battling the mighty deos um Northern Illinois at North Dakota midle Tennessee at Old m we haven't talked about Jackson Dart yet so we'll keep an eye on these games and Utah State at USC so we'll see how these things go but uh certainly a couple in there we'll see what the list looks like next week all right Rick we're gonna take a quick break when we come back what are we talking about next oh we're gonna talk about the NFL teams that need a quarterback right after this [Music] [Applause] so I figure we'll do this every week as well Rick we'll take a look at the NFL team's quarterback situation based on how they do in the previous week and based on how these college quarterbacks do and try to uh Play The Match Game essentially by the time it's all said and done DB you can throw up that uh the list of of teams I came up with in the NFL that need a quarterback and the names and parentheses are the quarterbacks I had going to these teams in my preseason mock draft mock draft 1.0 and we'll just start at the top and you can tell me Rick if you think this is too rich or or not rich enough in terms of of NFL quarterback needs I had the Raiders at number one yes for sure you were poo pooing the idea of Cam Ward going 13th overall to the Raiders a week ago feel a little better about that no uh but shter Sanders at at the middle of first round you would feel okay just based on your previous conversation yes okay no I I just I wouldn't poo pooo it let's just like I said I know we're doing hypotheticals which I so they need definitely need a quarterback so whoever was there that they didn't get an opportunity to take one of the top six this year so they need to get one next year unless our friend in Dallas Dak Prescott gets paid 60 million a year to go to the Las Vegas Raiders DEA what do you think of that like that's sort of under the table hot take from Rick that Dak is gonna be in Las Vegas next year let me put you on full screen and say it again if Dallas decides to not sign him that Dak Prescott will end up a Las Vegas Raider next year holy Moses you heard it here first fellas all right next up on the list the Giants number two you okay with the Giants at number two in terms of QB needs yes and in the pre-ra the preseason Mo draft had Carson Beck Going first overall had the Giants trading up this was based on reverse Super Bowl odds if you're wondering how it got there number three the Saints I suppose Derek hard then of course my guy Spencer Rattler's also there and and um Jake Kanner so they have some options but I would imagine if they're picking top 15ish they might consider dipping quarterback yeah okay all right and I put the Jets at four and the Steelers at five because a veteran quarterback uncertainty I'll call it what do you think of that yeah uh whether Aaron Rogers wants some play again or not they better get even if he does play they better get a young in place even if he had a sit for a year and then the Steelers those guys are onee deals so who knows number six I had the Browns on here and in the uh preseason mock I had him taking Quin ERS in middle of the first I'll just say this and ask me or explain to me how you would deal with this so you have I think three years left I haven't looked it up on Desa steel I'm not looking at right now but I looked it up the other day and I think his dead cap head is something like north of 65 well what they did was they moved money out on his contract which I didn't understand why they did that so they pushed some money out uh so they'd have cap room this year and what I'm guessing is as they make it run at this thing they have more than enough space to do a Power move before the trade deadline if they need to do that interesting uh but with all that dead cap space out there it could get into a situation I think it's plus 70 million now in dead if they end up moving on from Deshawn Watson but that all a sudden becomes a Denver Bronco Russell Wilson scenario with that kind of dead money out there if they had to move on from uh Des Sha but yeah it was kind of odd that they did push that money out into the future to create some cap space this year so I don't is the message that they're rolling with Des Shan no matter what for the next three years or is there still know what the message the message is you better win and I don't know if there's another quarterback another player in the NFL with more pressure on him than deshun Watson this year to perform Deshawn excuse me uh jamus is the backup there and DTR I believe is still there there's some conversation they may try to trade him get another good uh preseason so we'll monitor that three what's that they kept those three okay um next up number seven the Cowboys and that goes back to Rick's original conspiracy theory that if if Dak is out they're going to need a quarterback Trey Lance you know he threw the five interceptions the preseason game I think he played the entire game Mike McCarthy said he's still happy with his progress uh so we'll see how that rolls I don't know why they haven't signed Dak does it strike you as odd Rick that Jerry Jones seems to drag his feet on signing his best players he does it the way they do it so uh whether you agree with their method or not he's owner GM he's going to do what he wants but it costs them more money to continue right to delay these signings and I understand at CD lamb you know they got him done just a hair under Justin Jefferson which I thought was a great deal for him for the Cowboys uh they got Micah Parsons coming up next year who's going to want to be the highest paid non-quarterback in the league and look for him to have a big year um so what they did was they waited till after the fourth year to extend CD lamb there you know Dak pres they they're waiting till after the fourth year to sign um or to extend I think uh Micah Parsons so that's their business principle like the the Cincinnati Bengals opened up their can of worms because they did Joe burrow after three years even though they had a fourth year and an option year left I understand that you know Justin Jefferson got his deal done that was our business principal you played to the last year of your deal then we would extend your contract and we didn't waver from that but then you look at Detroit right St brown pan Soul those guys got done after their third year so it depends on your business principle but if they're going to wait on Micah Parsons which is great and that's their business rule that's fine but it's going to cost you some money too yeah that's curious to me and finally had the Rams uh the eight teams that could be in the quarterback business uh next spring again that's a a veteran quarterback situation in terms of what Matthew Stafford wants to do he's still playing at a high level so if he wants to come back you don't have to worry about it but uh in case he decides to retire or whatever that's just something to monitor I had Conor wman going 20th overall uh that's going to have to change andless Connor yeah it is Conor brings it so hopefully Connor brings it next week all right let's talk quickly in the few minutes we have remaining Rick because dbo has to give a presentation because he's important you think deo's weren a tie no I don't think he went down on that rabbit hole yet okay he is he is corporate now some non quarterbacks that balled out on our checks then you know he's then he's truly corporate and there were a ton of guys we could have mention Ted Ro McMillan Ashton Genty they are some guys that absolutely had fantastic Saturdays and Sundays but I'm gonna start with Travis Hunter so I will ask you again Rick eight catches oh no I'm sorry I was looking at the date uh he went absolutely crazy on both sides of the ball played mostly outside at cornerback and wide receiver and then played a little bit slot for both who so he's versal on both sides of the ball Unstoppable at receiver you can say FCS whatever it doesn't matter I thought he played at a high level where are you playing him Rick I am playing him wherever he helps my football team win so but this guy is like I've never seen an athlete like this to perform at that level some of the catches he made in the game even the one out of bounds yeah he caught that that his hand eye coordination is ridiculous three touchdowns the last one is what everyone was talking about I thought the second one was almost as impressive as the last one yeah it's it's you know him going over top of DB to make a catch or his explosiveness after the catch if he turns it on there's no one catching him I mean he's a guy that puts points on the board for you so that's hard to say that he's not an offensive guy right because I think he getting really help but then on defense are you wasting his talents even though he's a good corner I thought he was a little bit more aggressive at least he came up and whacked a dude at the edge uh where I thought he was uh made some business decisions last year but he played again 129 steps snaps I guess if you're an NFL team you're ask where's he going to make the biggest impact on our roster on the offense or defensive side I think that's what the decision will come down to and this dude on the offensive side can put points up on the board he might be the best conditioned athlete in college football and May be close he played all by three snaps as you pointed out there is there a situation and when you talk to people they say no but is there a situation where he can do both in the NFL it'd be hard to his body to hold up playing both way you can't I mean that's you know whatever 60 some snaps on offense and you can't do that your body just won't hold up at the at the next level but there are ways to sneak him in here or there uh potentially you know to do things packages or something like that on third down nickel I just I don't know I just know as an offensive playmaker which I was a little hesitant on last year I'm not so sure he's out of coming out of this week the most explosive offensive guy non-quarterback that I seen yeah tmac had over 300 receiving yards he did pretty good to the receiver for Arizona um but yeah it's hard top top 15 pick for Travis oh that's he's top 10 okay I was going to ask top 10 but I didn't want you to make a face at me said you made a face at me anyway yeah he should said top 10 all right Abdul Carter and that's a guy we talked about his top 15 moving from off ball to Edge and you specifically asked to watch him and talk about him here he went up against Wyatt Millum number 74 the left tackle for West Virginia and I watched a little bit of Wyatt and he had a pretty good afternoon he didn't give up any pressures in that game Abdul and you you said this to me yesterday he's not yet a finished product now you see the athleticism you see the quickness off the snap you see the speed uh against the Run uh he can stack offensive tackles and tight ends at the point just needs more more consistent using his hands to get off blocks he closed from the backside as a pass rusher especially the first half he was just running straight up the field now you see the raw athletic tools but there was no rush plan no use of his hands at all and then as the game wore on it became a little bit more comfortable I thought I saw a counter spin to the inside started to use his hands a little better so it is a raw product right now uh they did stand him up and Blitz him through the a Gap a few times so they try to move him around a little bit I think it's guy is going to continue to climb I mean would you say top 10 based off of just what we saw this week no but I think if he can continue to put a rush plan together uh you know it maybe high tower like when I was watching him a little bit Dante high tower like you know that big thick defensive end that's not 65 but knows how to rush the passer so that's a you know we went through comparisons and I can't remember who I compared him to but Dante hi Tower kind of popped in my head a little bit based off of this performance yeah Leu latu went in the middle of the first round and you talked about this a year ago actually uh his the way he rushes the passer is teach t and you know if Abdul Carter and latu are in the Spectrum Abdul's at one right now and latu is at 100 but that's in terms of the the technical side of it but physically Abdul's there and Beyond he's probably specimen wise he looks more like an edge rusher than latu maybe coming getting off the bus but he just has a lot of work to do because he hasn't played the position yeah yeah so it'll See it'll be fun to watch him progress through the year yeah he's still in the first- round conversation all day long he's just learning a new position yeah all right before we get out of here Rick one little thing I wanted to get on the record since the NFL season's uh only a few days away I wanted to get our Super Bowl picks so so we can revisit these and laugh at them I want to go first so you don't steal my answer okay okay I have the Houston Texans oh losing to your Detroit Lions oh you didn't go mainstream I thought you were gonna go mainstream so that's what I got I got the Lions over the Texans oh I didn't want you to steal my Lions pi that's why I went first yeah well I didn't I didn't take either of those two all right that's disrespectful to Chris but okay in fact uh I'm get yellowed at I had Green Bay winning the division oh what are you doing so just trying to make conversation out there okay all right Green Bay so the we're in division are they going all the way no all right you got I going to go just a tribute to Debo the Philadelphia Eagles what oh my gosh what are you doing versus the Cincinnati Bengals oh my this is this sounds like one of my terrible picks all right who's winning Cincinnati oh my gosh stuck it to you one last time Debo one last time all right on that note on that happy note we'll end let Debo get ready for his presentation which I eagerly am look forward to seeing it's WP on 176 rip episode in the books thanks as always to my guy Rick thanks to Deo for returning thanks to all you guys who watch and listen we're back to two times a week so we'll be back this Thursday see you guys then
