M. Night Shyamalan Movie Tier List

[Applause] hey guys welcome to Chris Flix Chronicles um so I just got done uploading the Trap uh movie review and I thought it'd be pretty fun to actually uh look at all of M Night Shyamalan movies and kind of tear them uh so this is my first attempt at these type of videos and let's see how it goes uh so what I did was I uploaded all the movies that he's directed and I just find out 5 minutes ago that he directed some movie um that I've never seen so it's right here and I'm not going to rate that but let's go ahead and start with the first movie here we have six cents now easily uh six cents is definitely going to be uh oops s tier um this is the movie that put M9 sham on the map uh this is the movie that kind of set president as far as there's going to be a Twist at SC of movies uh easily one of the most rewatchable movies of all time just because there's clues that you pick up every single time you watch it and of course uh the major uh spin or the uh what's it called the reveal at the end that Bruce Willis is dead um which this is going to be spoiler uh so if you haven't seen the movies don't watch this movie but that this movie has been out for over 20 years so you should know of course bris Willis is a ghost kid SE uh ghost and ghost can't see each other blah blah blah uh such a great ending to the movie uh so let's see we got the next movie here is signs um I'm going to put this as s tier I personally really like this movie a lot uh not quite as much as the six sense um it doesn't have kind of a Twist well maybe it does have a Twist depending on how you interpret it um but it's just a suspenseful movie um the fact that you really don't see that many aliens during their Invasion and this M Night Shaman decides to focus more in the dynamic of this family as far as what they've been through what they're going through uh it's really kind of a I can to say an experience that you have to feel um I remember watching this when I was younger I watched it with my brother and the scene where you know it's found footage you know they're uh in Brazil and they're recording an alien also you seen an alien walk by remember the first time I just got scared um very suspenseful movie I really do enjoy it uh next we have the last air bender um first off I've never seen the Anime Avatar it's one of those animes I have to get into but just watching this movie um it's a bad movie honestly um from what I hear it's nothing like the source this is one of the movies where amni shamalan really didn't write um he may have tried you know tweak the story here and there but this is not an original movie uh therefore it's really not a movie I can fault him from making he's just trying to make the movies a director doesn't have that much control uh the next movie is the village now this is going to go ahead and put this as C now I know the village has a lot of fans and I personally don't like the movie I felt like it was a bait and switch which you know it's one of those twist movies that people either like or they hate I personally hate it because I was expecting some kind of monster movie and basically what we got was just people in costumes basically scaring Village folk to stay in that secluded Village and then we learn that that Village just takes place in modern times for me it was just it's a whatever kind of movie uh next we have Lady in the Water now I saw this movie in the movie theaters and gosh it was so boring um I was just bored and bored and bored and bored nothing honestly nothing to me redeeming about it um it's just a boring movie I mean I don't even get what it's about and the fact that the movie took so long to kind of tell you what it's about but it doesn't pay off it's just a very boring movie honestly it might be one of my least favorite and night well least liked M9 Shaman movie so uh next we have the happening um now some people say this is the worst and Night shamalan movie and I'll say this I'm going to put this ahead of uh the last air bender this movie is so bad that it has certain good points in it um the fact that plants or trees are killing people it's it's a stupid twist uh but gosh do they just run with it crazily um of course you know you have the mark wallberg line what great hacon um just stupid movie but you know what I'll put ahead of these two um next we have After Earth I'm going to put this right here uh oh ahead of the last air bender not a great movie whatsoever but you know it does have some decent scenes in my opinion I know uh Jaden Smith gets a lot of hate for his acting um this is one of those movies where they try to make Jaden action star and of course Will Smith is supporting his son but it just doesn't work this is another one of those movies where it's like anyone could have directed this movie and you get and ni shamalan it makes absolutely no sense whatsoever uh just like the last air bender uh next we have the visit and I'll tell you this this was a great movie in my opinion I love the found footage aspect of it and this is kind of a return to form for mem ni Shyamalan I think I read somewhere that he had to kind of kind of come up with most of the money he bet on him self after having a string of bad movies and it it's kind of a horror found film movie of course that's um I think it's great I remember the first time I saw it I'm like whoa now this is what I'm talking about this is what M Night Shaman should have been doing um next we have split and I'll say this if split what's his own movie I'd put it probably as an a tier but the fact that it's a sequel to Unbreakable um kind of just blew my mind at the moment so I remember watching the movie I was thinking wow this is actually an intriguing movie um the character that uh James makoy plays is very intriguing the fact that he has different personalities and when these personalities manifest it changes him physically um I remember thinking when I saw the movie when he turns into the Beast I'm like what the hell I thought this is like a real istic movie and you got a man crawling all over the wall and you know all of a sudden having superpowers at that moment you're not thinking about oh could this possibly be a sequel to broken but then the fact that you know Bruce Willis's character shows up at the end of the movie The Diner um and just reveals that this takes place in the unbreakable Universe just blows my mind um I really enjoy this movie I think this is one of his best movies for sure so we'll go with the sequel we start with split um I'll say this split was so good and I had such high expectations for uh glass that when I saw glass I was just very disappointed I just I think it has a pacing issue it starts off really great when you know um James mavo character fights Bruce Willis's but then the movie just slows down in my opinion and then I just I don't I don't like the ending of it and this is just my personal opinion people might like this movie a lot more I think it's more of one of those middle of the road movies um that could have been better but for me the ending just took me out of it um next we have unbreakable now I'll I'll say this when I first saw this movie I was pretty young um and I a really can I really underappreciated this movie for what it was being an adult now and understanding films more I will say that it's such an amazing movie um it's a take on the superhero genre before it exploded and it's it is what we know now this is more grounded um and the reveal that basically um Samuel Jackson's character has been searching all his life for someone like Bruce Willis um his character um the dynamic and you know the dialogue is so good again when I was younger I didn't appreciate this movie I thought it was a boring movie but as I've gotten older I have become to really appreciate this movie some people will put this as probably one of his top two three movies um I think it's up there just not quite as good as you know for my opinion sign split in the six sense um next we have old um I know some people think I'm crazy for putting it this high but I thought it was great I thought wow this is a really interesting concept the fact that these people are stuck on a beach and that they're aging and they're aging faster um and then you come to learn that you know each one of them was personally selected to go there because they had had specific conditions that could be examined under a controlled time frame um there one's pretty evil but two um it's a it's a twist for me that it may not be huge but it kind of makes sense in in the aspect of hey makes you think like hey because of these people we now have certain cures for these types of diseases um so these people made the ultimate sacrifice so that other people may live longer and for me that was more of kind of a morally thinking like yes what happens to these people on the beach is horrible um but you know some people will live because of it um I thought the acting was great um I thought it was interesting how certain people aged um how certain people fell apart as far as the movie went and not just physically but emotionally mentally um I thought it was great uh next we have cabin uh knock at the cabin um when I saw the trailer to this I'm like man this looks really interested I'm a I'm a sucker for uh end of the world movies or disaster movies and the way this trailer came across it kind of pitched it as kind of like a disaster movie but more isolated um what I I'll put this right here I'll put this as a c I wish we would have seen more of disaster I know what they're trying to do and again this is a movie based on a book that an my shamalan directed um and he didn't write it you know um but here's the thing for me I hate it when I'm baited into a movie that makes it seem like it's going to be something and it turned out to be a little bit different now I know that this was going to be kind of an isolated story about the end of the world and inivision had to make a sacrifice um but I don't think that it was uh followed through correctly if you know what I mean it it just didn't have the correct payoff um we don't see the true implications of what that decision can make we hear about it we see about it on TV but we aren't really that invested I feel I mean sure you know losing a parent or losing a loved one making that choice to save the world can be very impactful but I don't think they the way they went about it you know made too much um didn't make me feel too invested in these characters uh so that's why I have it a little bit low next is trap um I and I just recently saw this movie so I'll put it right here uh actually I'll put it ahead of glass if you saw my review um basically trap Josh Hart's character is a serial killer um he goes to a concert with his daughter and then as he's in the concert he learns that Police SWAT FBI are there to catch him um and he tries to do all sorts of things to get out of the concert you know make it out of there without trying to be caught like I said my review the first two acts are really intriguing because you know you follow Josh Harton's character as he tries different things to find ways to get out but I think the third act really falls apart and there really is in a Twist um and I was expecting one I mean and this is kind of delving into spoilers so if you haven't seen trap you know you can turn off the video but like in my review I said there are certain things you look for in an M9 shamalan Movie Everything Is Not What It Seems for the most part now there are some movies like you can see here after Earth the last air bender where it doesn't need a Twist it's very straightforward but there are certain things in trap that made me think there might be a Twist um certain things like the way they portray Josh Harton's character him switching from a loving dad to a seral killer just like that kind of made me think of the movie Split I mean different personalities in the movie Sometimes they made Josh Harton seem like tall huge imposing you know like he transformed into a different individual when he was in the mindset of a serial killer and then there was this one part where near the end of the movie where he's being tasered I mean he has two taser guns on him and yet he's able to move so again I was thinking man is this another split universe or unbreakable Universe another individual that has multiple personalities he can switch between being a loving father and husband to a serial killer and yet when he switches to a serial killer he becomes stronger and the answer is no he's just your average serial well he's not your average serial he's a serial killer who's obviously uh smart and he's able to turn off and turn on his emotions to dictate what he can do next um but again there was no Twist on that so I mean I didn't love the movie but I didn't hate it I thought it was you know a decent movie um and as you can see this is my um ranking or my tier system of uh mni Shaman movies I know everyone's different list is different uh some people Lov The Village from when I was um remembering some people um well actually everyone in section D those are all bad movies there's no redeeming them okay um but I can see how some people may have knocking the cabin a little bit higher the Village a little bit higher some people love glass they may have it at the S tier some people hate old and they may have it down in the C tier uh but that's just my opinion so if you're new to the channel hit
