[Music] there is an agonizing search for a three-year-old boy who's gone missing in a Miss Saga Park good afternoon the search has been going on since last night at Arendale park that is in the Dand Street and Miss Saga Road area in the South End of the city ctv's John musman is following the story in joins us live with the latest on this John well natle we're just outside the entrance to Aaron Park the search continues at this hour there is still no sign of this missing three-year-old boy but we can tell you all the police Roes emergency resources are here searching the river and the area Bush the search of the park began last night officers with flashlights cone Pathways and bushes for any signs of the missing three-year-old boy the credit River also runs through the park the nonverbal toddler named Zade Abdullah was last seen with his parents around 6:20 last night was there with his parents and at a moment of um in a moment that he was just gone access to the bark has been blocked off while emergency officials search authorities say the child's parents are in the park while the search is underway at one point police and paramedics were focused on an area in the river near the command post there is a concrete structure in the river that has collected a lot of wood and debris especially after the recent stormy wet weather in the past week and a half I know the these types of incidents do uh significantly impact uh not just the family and friends of young Zade Zade himself but also the community which uh we've had a lot of outpouring of support from the community and we do appreciate that the boy was wearing a yellow top with red writing and black pants he was barefoot at the time he disappeared just a few minutes ago the Toronto police uh mounted unit arrived on the scene so they'll be uh walking their hor through this park keep in mind this is a massive Urban Park in Miss Saga with the credit river running quite a way through this park so they're searching the riverbank the river itself all of the pathways and the tree wooded area it's huge search area so at this point it continues there's still no update from police and they continue looking reporting live I'm John Muslim and I'll send it back to you now to the soccer Scandal that started with allegations that the Canadian women's soccer organization was using drones to spy on the competition at the Paris games we are learning today from TSN that drones were being used by both the women and men's soccer teams for years and we're hearing from tsn's Rick weste head on the revelations that spying has been happening for years we've got reaction from Canada Soccer and a shocking admission that drones were used during a Copa America soccer tournament CTV Scott lighfoot is joining us live from the Toronto FC practice where TFC coach John Herdman has been asked about his his time as the former coach of the Canadian women's team Scott let's begin with what we know so far well Natalie this all started when a member of Team Canada staff was caught flying a drone over two of New Zealand's closed practice sessions before the start of the Olympic Games that led to two members of Team Canada staff being sent home the woman's coach voluntarily removed herself from coaching in the first game of the Olympics she was then removed from the Olympics altogether by Canadian Olympic officials as you mentioned tsn's Rick West head has done some intensive reporting that shows that this is not the first time Canadian soccer teams have relied on drones or spying to give themselves an onfield advantage here's some of what he learned I was told that uh Canada played the United States in Florida in a game in November 2019 and a drone was used to record a closed training session that the American men were having two years later we get to Tokyo and a source tells me that one of the Canadian coaches on The Women's National Team actually recorded two closed training sessions of the Japanese Team Canada Drew 1-1 with Japan in its first game in those Olympics and went on to win gold fast forward another year there's World Cup qualifying a Canadian game against Panama and one of the staffers or contractors with the uh Women's National program is actually caught trying to take a recording of a Panamanian uh closed practice so this is all happening as Canada get set to play in the Olympics now the head of CEO of kada soccer is asking FIFA the world soccer governing body not to punish the players for the actions of Staff but he also says he's learned about at least the attempted use of drones during the recent Copa America tournament here's what he told reporters the players themselves have have not been involved in any unethical Behavior Uh and frankly we ask FIFA to take that into consideration uh if contemp any further sanctions and as you mentioned we are here at the Toronto FC practice facility at downsby because just a few moments ago the head coach of Toronto FC spoke to the media John Herdman of course well known as a national team coach in this country a couple of moments ago I asked him if he had any knowledge about any such activities involving drones or spying during his time as coach can you say whether or not you had knowledge of or involvement in any type of drone use or spy during your time yeah I mean I come back to the question which is you know this isn't Olympic Games it's the biggest event on the planet um you know it's uh a sportting event that has massive integrity and for me you know we have to make sure that those things are upheld always I've always gone into Olympic Games World Cups big events with Integrity in mind and the ability to compete at the highest level following the rules and processes so you know from my side as I say I'll help kind can sock where I can um with that review but I'm highly confident that in my time as a head coach at an Olympic Games or World Cup we've never been involved in any of those activities so Herdman said several times that he thinks it's important to keep the focus on the players especially the players who are about to or have just begun taking part in the Paris Olympics you heard him say there that he is willing to take part in any type of inquiry that can a soccer may have into this alleged Behavior but he says for now the focus should remain on the players this is a developing situation reporting live outside the TFC practice facility I'm Scott life up Nathan and Natalie back to you okay thank you Scott still to come Prince Harry has revealed what led to a rift with the royal family but first a look at the forecast and a live shot of the Rose it is busy especially for those who might be heading up North for the weekend the weekend looking good a lovely run of sun just a few clouds and light winds Saturday and Sunday but there will be a bit of humidity on Sunday let's talk about the satellite radar and show you what is there right now and you can see it's pretty much Clear uh throughout the day temperatures will rise and the high is 27 which is expected right now we're sitting at 22 in the karthas 24 in oshaa 22 in Hamilton and the rest of the day is looking great we'll give you a full recap and also look at the long range forecast a little bit later on in the show okay now to to the Wildfire destruction that has hit Jasper Alberta we're hearing about the massive scale of the fire that has burned homes and businesses in the landmark town to the ground ctv's Andrew Johnson has the details It's haunting homes and local landmarks in one of Canada's most treasured and beautiful national parks burned to the ground one of those houses belonged to the LeBlanc family our home burned to the ground our whole side of town which is the west side of town most of it is gone the premier summed up the Heartbreak of an entire Province and to those in Alberta and around the world who have experience the magic of Jasper the magic is not lost and it never will be Danielle Smith grew emotional after providing a grim estimate of the scope of Destruction in the town of Jasper 30 to 50% of structures burned the fire south of town began consuming buildings Wednesday night the day before Flames had still been 12 km away officials say its quick spread was fueled by high winds which whipped it into an inferno a 100 m high wall of flames that traveled 5 kilm in half an hour firefighters on the ground could do nothing to stop it and it was too dangerous for water bombers to fly any firefighter will tell you there's little to nothing you can do when you have a wall of flames coming out like that close to 25,000 people were ordered to get out out of the national park on Monday tourists seasonal staff and the people who call this town of just under 5,000 home lots of tears and and just shock and disbelief and sadness well-known businesses have also been lost including the Molen Lodge run by the same family since the 1960s Jasper's mayor is calling the destruction his worst nightmare the premier is promising to rebuild Alberta's government will provide the support needed to families and Community to recover and to rebuild stronger than ever there are some very important parts of Jasper that have survived critical infrastructure including the hospital schools and the wastewater treatment plant have all been saved key pieces of the rebuild Andrew Johnson CTV News meantime efforts of being organized to bring relief to fire stricken residents cgb's Beth Mell has been talking with global medic agency that helps in disasters around the world Beth Nathan Global medic here at Cloverdale Mall has kicked into high gear to help people affected by the wildfires in and around Jasper volunteers as you can see right here behind me are packing up boxes of food and Global medic says the need is going to be increasing in the n in the days ahead the team of global medic has also deployed firefighting equipment to actually help firefighters on the ground these are big boxes that can you can put water in and they go on the backs of fire trucks so it basically makes the firefighters more Nimble when they go into these forested areas rul Singh the founder and a paramedic showed me around today have a look and you want to have everybody deployed because the town's on fire you've got 13 people sitting there that can't fit in the trucks but by giving those skin units for their pickup trucks so we gave them two you can deploy everybody all hands on deck right and here here's an example of a kit right like I mean look these are these are the basics right toothbrush toothpaste soap deodorant shampoo I mean this is just just trying to get people some some some comfort we always pack food Aid right and the reason we do this is we you know we buy food in bulk right you kind of see kind of over your shoulder here we've got these massive big bags 50 lb bags of beans lentils rice you know different things then what we do is we put them into bins and the volunteers are out and they're repackaging them into smaller [Music] Banks Global medic says it plans to help tens of thousands of people during this disaster reporting live I'm Beth Mell now back to the desk thank you Beth now to France where the opening ceremony for the Paris games is just over an hour away the country's highspeed rail network has been hit by what is being called widespread and Criminal acts of vandalism French officials are condemning the attacks although they have not yet linked them to the games the head of the state-owned Railway says the attacks targeted signaling installations on major high-speed lines that link Paris to the rest of the country and that explosives were used to start fires the timing couldn't be worse here the disruptions are expected to affect a quarter of a million people in Paris alone today and they are expected to linger through the weekend Eurostar which runs the high-speed train service that connect France to the United Kingdom has also been forced to cancel or divert trains due to the coordinated attacks CTV Scott Hurst is covering the games today and joins us now with the latest on the start of the Olympics Scott what can you tell us about the opening ceremony today well Natalie first and foremost you mentioned that the incident with the trains could likely affect up to a quarter of a million people no doubt a lot of those people heading to the opening ceremony in Paris from other parts of the country so this will have a long long lasting effect for people who are looking to take in the Olympic Games and the opening ceremony is supposed to be quite a spectacle of course under a lot of uh security under a lot of law enforcement as well including we're learning from the RCMP members from Canada as well who are in France to help out with the security at the request of the French government we do know from the RCMP 20 law enforcement officers from seven different police agencies throughout Canada are in France dealing with the security the issue and we saw that firsthand today with the incident dealing with the trains now to the opening ceremony specifically it should be quite a spectical for the first time ever for an opening ceremony it won't be in an arena it won't be in a stadium enclosed in an area like that it'll be along the banks of the sen it'll be along the S with Spectators lining the banks of the S hundreds of thousands of them in fact with the athletes and the entertainers they'll be parading down the river on boat so it's expected to be quite respectful for those who then can make it and uh Canadian athletes of course will taking part in that with more than 300 athletes involved in these Olympic Games Natalie yeah should be quite the sight Scott what are the expectations for the Canadians at these games yeah so as I mentioned 337 athletes at this game if we look back to the last summer olympics Tokyo 2020 of course taking place in 2021 we won 24 medals at that at those games and so obviously we're always looking to do as well as we did last time potentially even better and we should start off with our flag bearers of course both reigning Olympic champion so we're hoping for more medals from ma Chiron and Andre Degrassi of course won three medals at the last Olympic Games we have lots of chances to win medals in the pool with names like summer Macintosh Maggie mcneel and Penny Alexia and here's one you've never heard of before break dancing of course is making its debut at the Olympics and Canada has a shot at the pod Podium athlete by the name of Phil wizard potentially even a shot at Gold so lots of expectations for Canadian athletes and hundreds of athletes taking part so once the games get underway in just about an hour's time of course there's been so many stories already there should be lots for Canadians to cheer about and Scott returning to the spying Scandal that has been plaguing the Canadian women's soccer team has there been any more Fallout on that yeah just to add to what Scott lighfoot had mentioned earlier there is an investigation now underway by soccer's governing body he mentioned the investigation now underway from Canada Soccer and an investigation that won't just be about the incident at hand here at the Paris 2024 Olympics an investigation from soccer Canada that appears to go back many years and also include the men's program and so that is where Canada Soccer is focusing its investigation soccer's governing body of course investigating the most recent incident as well so we'll have to wait and see from those two investigations whether there any more Fallout either in the immediate term or long term and whether Canada might face any sanctions or any more issues with the current women's team there there's been speculation and there's been a request by the New Zealand team for Canada to Forfeit its points from its match yesterday against New Zealand of course they won that Opening match 2 to one and there's been a request even before that match from the New Zealand program for Canada to Forfeit those points we haven't heard anything specifically about any more punishment for Team Canada in the immediate term and of course these investigations could take quite some time from Canada Soccer Natalie okay CTV Scott Hurst with the latest on the Paris 2024 games thank you Scott thanks a lot now to Washington where US President Joe Biden has pushed the Israeli Prime Minister to agree to a ceasefire in Gaza the meeting occurred yesterday and the vice president now in the race for America's top political post also met with Benjamin Netanyahu ctv's Joy malvin reports the Democrats deao leader k Harris taking command welcome Mr Prime Minister and I look forward to our conversation we had lot talk about her husband and stepchildren are Jewish but Harris has taken a tougher stand with Israel in the past warning its prime minister the suffering in Gaza is unacceptable Israel has a right to defend itself and how it does so matters meeting earlier with President Joe Biden welcome back Mr Prime Minister the president pressing Benjamin Netanyahu to accept a peace deal a top priority for Biden in his remaining months in office and one that could Define his legacy I want to thank you for uh 50 years of public service and 50 years of support their relationship not an easy one Biden publicly threatened to hold back weapon shipments to Israel pushing Netanyahu to close the gaps in a peace deal with some compromise and some leadership on both sides here we believe that we can get this over the Finish Line money for is netanyahu's Congressional visit to Washington has sparked protests again calling him a war criminal and angry at the Biden Administration support for Israel both leaders met with American hostage families desperate for a deal we got absolute commitment from the Biden Administration and from prime minister Netanyahu that they understand the urgency the moment they come home these 115 The Killing ends the madness ends Joy malbin CTV News meanwhile kamla Harris received a high-profile endorsement today from Michelle and Barack Obama kamla hell hi hey there a hi you're both together oh it's good to hear you both I I I can't have this phone call without saying just want to tell you the the words you have spoken and the friendship that you have given over all these years mean more than I can express the endorsement builds momentum for Harris as the likely Democratic Presidential nominee after Joe Biden ended his campaign here in Canada the Supreme Court says the crown breached two treaties with First Nations the High Court ruled a settlement must now be negotiated the Robinson treaty signed in 1850 gave a large piece of land in Ontario to the crown in return for annual payments to the anishinabi of lakes Huron and Superior the payments were supposed to increase over time but have stayed at $4 per person since 1875 the crown negotiated a settlement of 10 billion dollars with one group and now has six months to negotiate with the other Prince Harry has made some candid revelations in a new documentary The Duke of Sussex says his decision to fight the Tabloid press in court is a major reason for the rift with the rest of the royal family they made it very clear that this is something that needs to be done it would be nice if we you know did it as a family I I believe that again from a service standpoint and when you're in a public role that these are the things that we should be doing um for the greater good but you know I'm I'm doing this I'm doing this for my reasons in December a judge ruled that mirror group newspapers had gathered information about The Prince unlawfully and awarded him hundreds of thousands of dollars in Damages back here at home Toronto police were investigating a stabbing this morning sunny the high 30 is going to feel like 34 so that's going to be a hot one and that hot Trend continues 30 is right across the board for next week Monday and then Tuesday there is the chance of on this investigation it looks much like any other office building in Markham Ontario but in one shared space our investigation reveals it's the location used for 97 money service companies and there's little evidence any of them ever did business here or that they were even actual tenants my name is Adrian go I'm with CTV national news inside a manager whose identity were protecting alleges that there's a list of criminal companies who've listed this unit as the registered business address fraudulent people know that business centers are easy prey because they can use that address and it's a legitimate registered business address but they're not paying to use it but we can't keep track of the people that are using it one company using the address metaverse foreign exchange also need to shut this down new regulations have given fin Trak the power to do criminal background checks we track down Finance Minister Chris je Freeland at an event in Markham of all places how do you believe these criminal MSP corporations who are stealing hundreds of millions of dollars reflect on our country I think your question is an important one I think we do have more work to do here in Toronto is a huge fan and bought tickets to see them as part of the summer stadium tour which also features de leopard and journey heart but unfortunately lead singer Anne Wilson had to cancel her involvement in the concert as well as other upcoming shows as she undergos treatment for cancer she told her fans she hopes to be back on tour next year see C after heart dropped out the promoter for the Toronto show added the band cheap trick to take their place I was very angry I the way I was looking at it uh basically uh Ticket Master was trying to pull a cheap trick on me leay says while he wishes Anne Wilson well he is on a fixed income and wants his money back for the $140 tickets it's unfair it's unfair and all I'm asking for is a refund sometimes when for whatever reason one of the Bands can't attend and has to cancel it's a promoter's worst nightmare music industry expert Eric Alper says a promoter would have to issue refunds if a headliner cancels a show but says for an opening act they only need to find a comparable band to fill the spots because the show show is still going on the show is still happening and in their eyes they're putting together something of value as well Ticket Masters website says opening acts are subject to change or cancellation at any time without notice no refund will be owed if an opening act or Festival performer is changed or cancelled without the former access at Ontario Place Lake access is next to Impossible Toronto is the biggest city on the great lake so we should be a role model of stewardship for freshwater access but there is nowhere in the city of Toronto where someone with disabilities can launch a kayak or an exercise ball uh into the water and so he has come here to this Fountain it's really good for the spine if anybody body has back injuries a lot of times I get up in the morning I can't stand up I need my Walker but then if I can get the right spinal stability exercises man who ran for mayor in the last election on a platform that included improving access to the lake and keeping Ontario Place public hopes by taking his rehab routine to public spaces it might encourage the public and elected officials to think about ensuring access to the water for all there are a lot of people with disabilities who can't any longer get into the water water and it's it's a real crime because Lake Ontario
