well welcome to this episode of Sooner Legends podcast I'm your host Mike Legend and I hope you are enjoying opening weekend of football this weekend Georgia de defeated Clemson and Texas and Colorado State going on right now Vanderbilt uh defeats uh Virginia Tech in overtime so a lot went on so today I'm going to be the discussing Oklahoma defeating Temple 51 to3 but as the title States it was The Good the Bad and the Ugly yes I'll watch that game last night and we'll just get into it thank you for pulling up to to your channel to the channel and joining me today um I'm your host my Legend and thank you for Pulling up the Sooner Legends podcast uh if you don't mind if you're new to the channel new to the family think about hitting that jumping out and hitting that red subscriber button turn of YouTube and also could you share the video because sharing is caring well like I state in my title our win last night 51 to3 it was The Good the Bad and the Ugly the ugly was R line after Bryson Hickman went out with a high I think it's a high ankle sprain as it was reported it seemed like that what little Spark we had in that old line fizzled and we struggled uh from what I seen Spencer Brown and Michael Tarin have concrete shoes they they got exploded off of blocks uh kept got ja sacked a couple of times uh it was bad I'm thinking them two need to be on the Scout Squad next man up now I'm not dooming glooming but after seeing what I seen last night I do have some questions about the o line I really do that that uh that just shocked me last night that but I have seen worse offensive lines at Oklahoma 200 5 2009 them were probably I think them two were worst offensive lines that that I had seen in the in the 2000 era and up and uh so they was bad but they wasn't that bad and also on the ugly side I don't know his name right off hand but that number 44 that costed us two penalties last night night that that was uncalled for there there seemed to be at times some undisciplined play with us getting unnecessary flags and all that I just I I hope we get that short up and and that's not going to be a menace to us going in into more competition and guys like I said I'm not on the bill beaden B hate train but we need to get we need to get that offensive line shorted up and jelling in a hurry because Tennessee is going to be in Norman and three weeks and they've got a pretty decent defensive line I'm not going to say decent I'm going to say they're pretty damn good so we need to Bill beiden bow needs to dig in way down deep into his bag of tricks and get some guys in there who can who can at least keep uh know how to block and know how what decent footwork is because like I said I didn't see it with Spencer Brown and Michael Tarin at all and I've heard Garen Hatchet also but you know Garen God bless him he had to go out there and get fed to the wolves but he is a veteran he played at Washington he played at one of the teams that made it in the playoff last year so I'm just like I said it was all of my life since I've been a sooner fan every it seems like every season even this season you got that one game where all three phases of the game ain't jelling and you come out of the game even though we won it leaves your head leaves you scratching your head and that's what last night did it left me but like I said another positive on this Jackson Arnold didn't throw any interceptions and he he s a couple of his throws uh I'm not going to say they were off but the receivers I I've I've heard football players talk about this all the time and believe me I I played football in high school but I've never played it down in college but I've heard football players talk about all my life if you are a receiver if that ball hits your hands you catch it no excuses so I'm not really going to blame J Jackson on that but he did not have any ints yesterday that was one thing I was going to look at coming out of the Alamo bow last year ca he had three in that game and I was going to see if maybe he cleaned up uh not not looking at his reads A Lot not watching them downfield Etc you know the drill uh so he didn't throw any interceptions Oklahoma didn't have any turnovers in the game which I I'm glad of that another positive and uh also uh how about Taylor Tatum guys he's every bit as advertised I thought him and javante Barnes were our were are uh two best running backs but with the blocking that we had on the offensive line or lack there of Gavin saluk never found a rhythm and then when you got to see Javonte Barnes and Taylor Tatum pick up pick up them big yards it was because they wasn't going up the middle because there wasn't no blocking so they they ad lived and put and moved it to the outside where they gained yard positive yardage but up in the middle I mean we I've heard about fichi weiwo uh he had his woses on the o line uh so my grade for the for the o line in last night's play would be a d I'm not I'm not sugar coat nothing just just from what I saw in in their play last night a d all over the board for the offensive line now as far as our wide receivers JJ Hester and um Brenan Thompson Miss some passes that was thrown right to him I mean that that was that was discouraging and then Jalil f bro caught that long pass of course he got hurt broke his foot going to need a screw uh getting surgery he's going to be out six to eight weeks I I feel bad for Jalil because even he has been so loyal to Oklahoma he could have left Oklahoma with Lincoln Riley when he left Oklahoma to USC but barut chose to stay here at Oklahoma and I really hate that for double oq because he is I got a soft spot for him because last year before the Alamo he was so clutch he picked up a couple of first downs in Texas uh he was just always at the right spot at the right time and of course we were without Nick Anderson uh but uh Dion Burks my God he's going to be that dude he is he's everything that that I seen him in the spring game and me and a couple of podcasters that I live streamed with we knew Deon Burks when we seen him in the spring game that he was he was going to be a dude and he is showing up and showing out God bless you Dion love you brother and uh so my wide receiver room I'm going to give it him a B+ and a quarterback play I'm going to give a solid B+ you know Jackson Arnold even though he his yardage didn't jump out the off the charts uh he didn't throw any interceptions so I'm and Michael Hawkins did y'all see that under AR that sidearm pass he made there at the end of the game that stuff ain't T guys and I heard this watching the game last night from one of the commentators I don't want us Red shirting Hulk because he's already going to have to play behind Jackson Arnold but you read shur him and now we have a chance of him hitting the portal now his dadddy was was is a legacy player he played at u under the Bob Stoops era so that right there kind of telling me you know maybe the U brand is enough to keep him at Oklahoma because he loves OU so I'm not ready to get on on the he's going to jump in the portal train because of not playing but I would like to see them not red shirting because you just don't know and believe me we're going into the SEC this is going to be some tough competition and things can happen at any time but from what I seen from hulke last night if he's called upon God forbid knock on wood Jackson goes down I will feel comfortable with Hulk just from what I seen of him last night and and there again the young man runs and picks up a first down and extra yardage and we get flagged for hold uh either or ineligible man downfield I can't remember but UND disiplined guys play discipline so and as far as the running backs I'm going to give them a solid B B+ because like I said it wasn't there up the middle but they had to they had to improvise and I was really impressed with the it looks like Barnes is back to Barnes his freshman Year y'all remember in the Florida State chees and Bowl you and Gavin saluck but I look to H for Gavin saltchuk to have a have a good year so but from what I've seen in Barnes and and Taylor Tatum in the Run game B+ wide receivers B tight end I'm going give them give them an a bar sharp he caught everything that was throw at him and he we ain't seen a tight end play in a long time and it was you know v v had some crucial catches well not crucial but I uh one touchdown and then a first down and you know I'm going to like Byer sharp as the season goes on I think he along with that receiving core he is going to be an asset to uh Jackson Arnold and his Weaponry uh here's the hope he on in me I'm hoping to see another Sam Bradford Germaine Gresham type but that's just a hope he in me I don't I doubt we'll see it so tight ends get an A from me so let's switch it over to the defense my favorite position of the ball all across the board a defensive line linebacker secondaries hey G baby Grayson hton he bowled out David Stone when he come in his name was mentioned a couple of times Jaden Jackson he was mentioned a couple of times uh Dominic Williams mentioned a couple of times them guys was in the back field causing H Now understand guys it's just Temple I I get that that but how long have we sooner fans seen an opening game playing low bit competition that the other quarterback we made them look like Johnny Unitus and it's been a long time since us sooner fans have seen quality defensive play at especially out of that D line in a long time and let me tell you something I really in it last night I as bad as bad as our offense looked at times I'm like yep our our defense and so uh defensive line linebackers uh Kobe McKenzie he was he he come in and stopped a couple of runs Kip Lewis played good Danny stutsman he would he's always our spark plug but this is what was mention uh I can't remember what podcast I was watching but our defense showed up and showed out and Danny stutsman wasn't in I'm not saying this in a bad way but he I I I think we didn't need to rely on him and Danny is good and his name was mentioned a few times last night but it was our defensive line that was causing that hate and discontent and uh you know what I went back and looked at that play last night and y'all can call me a homer y'all can call me what you want but Billy Bowman intercepted that pass when he hit the he had possession when he hit the ground the ground can't cause a fumble he had possession of it I just think the referees was trying to uh keep the game low but I digress Billy bone man Payton Bowen that defensive back filled in the corners and the free safety and strong safety we're we're money there and we got a field go kicker helner he hit a 50 a 42 and a short one the end the game or not the end the game but he he had two long ones and one short I like that that that gives me a good feeling knowing that we got a field goal kicker that if we're if we're within his yards which right now seems to be 50 and in and we need a field go to win it we can we can uh rest assured that that that he's going to make it now is he going I you have to be seen but it was nice to see no missed field goals when we had to have them last night so field goal kicker gets an a cuz he was three for three last night but in a nutshell I'm going to give a shout out to Jay at unfair Sports I listened to his podcast this morning and it made sense to me because I I wasn't ready to jump off the cliff wasn't ready to be a dabby downer but he he answered some questions that I had that I really didn't want to ask any of the other podcasters because I would get 50 million different view ways of and Jay has always been able to uh to uh explain it not to me personally but through his video is we played vanilla we had a and with with the way our defense was playing why would you want to open up the Playbook makes sense play vanilla and also they was like Jay said in his video uh he they was wanting to see what Jackson could do in the middle of the field we already know what his deep his deep ball is so they wanted to see how his uh how the middle of the field was going to treat him now his receivers didn't didn't do him any justice last night God bless him but after Jay said that it made sense to me and in a nutshell I'm not going to let this one game Define how U is going to look this season I'm not I'm not want to start really digging and and Diving until SEC play now we can't Overlook Houston and two lane it's going to be bigger competition coming up we do need to get some we need we need to light some fires on that offensive line going against Houston and to Lane we need to get some kind of protection for Jackson we need to get some kind of run blocking we need to get guys who can move their feet who can hit hard in the pad stay on block I mean it what I hate going back but last night you didn't see it so I but like I said I'm not ready to jump on that wagon yet this is one game first game of the season we got a lot of chest pieces to play with and that's what Bill Bebo does he don't play checkers he plays chess so believe you me they in that locker room they going to watch the film they going to hit the practice field and they they going to Bill's going to find his right mix on that all o line before it's all said up I can almost guarantee it so once again there's my take I love each and every one of you guys y'all take care and don't say nothing you can't take back cuz you'll live to regret it this is the legend we'll see you on the back side Boomer Sooner
