just realized that I didn't have my intro but it is all good we have been winging it today um part of getting the Kinks out of switching to a new system so definitely uh the next time that I come live we have everything figured out hopefully hopefully all right so guys today we have some things to talk about there are there have been some surprising things that we've seen out of Camp there have been some things that may have been unheralded Marcus Davenport's signing is a signing that I believe has been unheralded a lot of uh not talking about marus Davenport a lot of writing off of that Marcus Davenport I personally have been a person who who does not I don't want to say doesn't believe because this it makes me sound bad right so I'm a person who is very wary of Marcus Davenport's injury history the fact that Marcus Davenport only played in about four games last season and then he had five offseason surgeries now allbe IT hand and shoulder surgeries lineman especially defensive linemen need their heads and shoulders heads shoulders knees and toes knees and toes uh as well but the fact that he plays so violently as Al mcneel said he'll teach you some stuff but he's more about running through people's faces that's what Al McNeil said said he'll teach you some stuff but he's more about running through people's faces so a a player that plays that violently the man is 6'6 260 lbs he's a huge Behemoth of a man the fact that he plays that violently and he's so large just gives me a little bit of pause about his health not about his ability his availability now do I want to see him out there on the field for 17 games yes 100% has he done it to this point in his career he has not is it possible that he could do it for the first time this year yes it is very possible uh another reason for that is because he'll be uh kind of swapping in and out they have been doing things like rotating him and Levi unar on the other side of Hutch obviously we know that um James Houston is going to be repping at Sam linebacker uh but he'll probably be down on the line at times bending around the corner with that amazing superhuman bin that he has so that's not something that I'm worried about I think that this team has a plan to spell uh Marcus Davenport to keep him fresh so that he is not missing out on anything uh for this season so here's to hoping that margus Davenport is going to be available for the entire season he's not going to miss out on anything all right now I have an article here from Tim tman of course who else would I have an article from Tim tman is the man right it's funny that his name is Tim 20 man because he is the man uh but talking just about Mr Davenport as I have been so it says Davenport has been standing out in padded training camp practices when the pads come on and Camp there always seems to be a few players who Elevate their game when the contact and physicality ramp up It just fits their play style and they stand out more through the first two days of paded practices at Lions training C veteran Edge Marcus Davenport is one of those players who's stood out it's been nice getting back to it Davenport said after practice Tuesday it's been a while since I've been in pads Davenport signed with the Lions as a free agent this offseason after spending last season with Minnesota but he only played four games with the Vikings because of an ankle injury that ultimately required surgery Davenport rehabbed all spring and wasn't on the field for the offseason training program but now is a full go in training camp and making his presence felt early on Lions head coach Dan Campbell and defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn were were in New Orleans with Davenport when he started his career in 2018 and they know the player he can be when healthy he's had Seasons with six sacks in 2019 and nine sacks in 2021 along with 16 quarterback hits in both he has a long big frame at 6'6 265 lbs and he's been a load to handle for the offense so far opposite Aiden Hutchinson now just to point out when he did have those nine sacks in 2021 he also only played an 11 games so you know take that with whatever grain of salt that you want to take it with but he was on Pace obviously for double digit sacks um he might have been in the teens who knows uh so I got to see them firsthand in New Orleans and the carryover and just seeing how they've been here is definitely something I wanted to come and be attached to and help be a part of Davenport said of Campbell and Glenn Davenport is a physical presence on the edge who is tough to move and he also has a physical mindset that fits the Mantra of the def of this defensive upfront he said his playing style is to run through the man who is in his way to the quarterback and the lions are hoping he gets plenty of opportunities to to do that playing alongside Hutchinson Al mcneel and DJ reer come to the reg uh come the regular season so as I was saying before he's violent and Al mcneel said he'll teach you some things but he's more about running through people's faces and he said that himself that he wants to run through the man who is stopping him from getting to the quarterback it's just that simple okay this is a VI man he's 6'6 265 lbs he's not someone that any tackle wants to line up against uh for any stretch of time so he's physically imposing he's violent what else could you expect from a man that large so um honesty or honestly there are a lot of guys that can get the sacks and work off to uh work off of his production and be a catalyst he said of playing opposite Hutchinson finally healthy Davenport hopes things stay that way first and foremost he is focused on stacking good days in Camp and getting to a point where he's ready to be one of those players the Lions have looked for the oppos or the the Lions have looked for opposite Hutchinson to give them consistent production and round out their defensive line into a complete unit so chat first of all let me welcome everybody into the chat let me welcome man Michael Garr let me welcome in Broski bear uh let me welcome in Trace let me welcome in Rick let me welcome in Craig Craig what up though man I'm glad you're back I'm glad you're back let me welcome in King SJ John fing Lord uh John F and Lord you have to ask the chat about that one uh I'm not sure that I can do that I'd love to do that um you know I got friends in in certain places uh but I'm not I'm not 100% sure I can't tell you um jrod is in the house what is going on jrod so my question to the chat is um what do you guys think is a successful season for Marcus Davenport like what would you like to see from him if he can't play 17 games how many games can he play and what are some of his stats that you guys believe would make this a successful uh signing and a successful season for him brosi Barett says he's Montes sweat size but he's no Montes sweat what are the numbers for Montes sweat Broski because it it's easy to say it but tell me what Montes sweat's numbers are what is His Highest sack production season that's what I want to know triple double 88 says five sacks in 10 games no I can't get behind that one 10 games is not till we play 17 okay we play 17 I killed Jonah Jackson for missing five games because one of them was the NFC championship game um but I believe he missed four games during the regular season and he missed the NFC championship game so I killed him for missing five games and I said I didn't want him to come back because the trend of his injuries was going the wrong way he was missing two games then four games five games right it wasn't going back the other way so I can't get behind 10 games um Craig hog says he has to play at least 14 games six to eight sacks uh I mean I think if he plays 14 games he's gonna get more than six to eight I'm just saying he got hutch on the other side he's got uh alen mcneel DJ reader on the inside of him the only way that I can see that he does he he gets six to eight sacks is that he's not on the field much right so like I said earlier about them spelling him and them rotating um James Houston and uh Levi onque and maybe Josh Pascal and you know if if that's what's happening then I can see that his production would dip because they're trying to keep him around longer uh Rick says 20 games and 12 to 15 sacks perfect man perfect 20 games and 12 to 16 sacks but no we don't want him playing uh so so he's gonna miss one game that's what you're saying Rick because we're we're playing 21 that's that's the point of that one uh see Broski bear says sweat had 12 and a half sacks last season he also gets a ton of QB hits and pressures okay so that was one more sack than Aiden Hutchinson and I'm sure Aiden Hutchinson got more Q QB pressures and hits than Mont sweat would anybody disagree that Aiden Hutchinson had Le had more QB pressures than Montes sweat because Aiden Hutchinson had I think he had the most QB pressures in the league Davenport had one one and a half sacks in 2020 how many games did he play in 2020 brki all right five in 2022 and two sacks in 2023 he's we're talking Broski injuries in 2023 he had two sacks in four games injuries man in in his 2021 season okay he had nine sacks in 11 games what do you mean where where you getting these 0 five sacks and stuff from he had six sacks in 2019 he had nine saxs in 2021 Broski I'm not hey I'm not disagreeing with the the hurt thing so you got to listen to me man I'm talking about when I started this conversation I started by saying I was worried about his health I am not a proponent of his health if he has the ability to stay healthy for a season do you not think that he will produce just as much as sweat if not more that's all my that's my question Broski if he has if he's if if mark If montz sweat and Marcus Davenport play the same amount of snaps in games this season what do you think that their production difference is going to be as I said keeping in mind with a you would say less talented but New Orleans always has you know good defenses so let's just say with a similarly talented defensive line cuz I would have to look up everybody that was on the defensive line I know cam was there okay so on a a similarly talented defensive line in 20121 mon um margus Davenport had nine sacks and only played in 11 games okay so if we take that nine sack and 11 game Pace would does anybody want to do the math okay so Broski says don't do hypotheticals I stick to reality sweat played in all 17 games each of the last two seasons no but you're you're the hypothetical that you're doing is you're telling me that well it's not a hypothetical it is reality you're saying he's not sweat well neither am I neither is the next guy playing next to sweat and sweat is Mont sweat there's a Josh sweat but he's also not Mont sweat so Montes sweat is his own person okay but you're saying that he's not good because he's been injured and this is what I'm disagreeing with so this is what I'm I'm asking you you're saying he's not any good because he's been injured right and then you take a whole season where so so you say okay he had two sacks in 2023 because he only played four games right right so you're trying to take a whole like like that was the whole season he didn't participate in the entire season so my question to you put your money where your mouth is if he plays an entire season this this season if he is able to stay stay healthy what are your your expectations for his stats what kind of production do you think he will have do you think he will be woefully under montz sweat playing an entire season or do you think that there will be somewhat comparable that's all I'm asking you brosi dude T brosi you're not brosi James Houston got hurt the second game he broke his ankle against Seattle what do you you mean what do you mean like he hasn't done squat since he had a rookie season okay where he went on a tear right he had eight sacks and seven games his rookie season okay so why listen why is Jordan love allowed to get that why is Jordan love allowed to get that high oh oh he only played half a season and he got a huge freaking contract so why is James Houston not giving any Grace now bet you if James Houston was a bear Broski bear you'd be saying some different things you'd be singing a different tune you said he'd have to see Davenport play something close to an entire season I had the numbers before obviously because I've done shows and talked about D Davenport before but the highest that he's played I don't remember the year was 15 games and definitely had more than two sacks um so yeah all right um Craig hog says suat is going to be washing Hutch's Cup oh man oh you guys are too funny you guys are too funny all right so my my predictions or not a prediction but but but something that would be okay for me is it it's got to be no less than 14 games for for the regular season I I would like to see it um hovering around the 15 16 range I obviously I'd like to see him play 17 games that I mean that that's not something that we have to ask about do you want to yes I want him to play the entire season um and then I want him to play three playoff games okay because I don't want there to be four playoff games um because I want that first round buy so if we don't get the first round buy then I want him to play Four playoff games Okay um and I want him to have the game ceiling set just for you just for you Broski bear I want Marcus Davenport to be in the Super Bowl and have the game ceiling sack that brings the Lombardi back to Detroit that's what I want so Broski he said nothing but excuses for the Lions defensive ends so what am I supposed to do with watching watching James Houston burst on the screen on on the screen or the scene is the word I'm looking before what am I supposed to do with James Houston bursting on the scene as a rookie with more than a sack of game pace and then he gets injured the next season what like so so am I supposed to just be like ah he's a bum he hasn't done anything dude he played literally one game in his in in last season the second game that he was playing in he got hurt early in that game just like CJ GJ got hurt early in that game he he he pulled his uh he what did he do to it he tore his pet in the first quarter of that game and played the rest of the game so I don't know what I don't know what I'm supposed to say about James Houston is he not any good because he got injured the last time we saw him fully playing he played in seven games and he produced eight sacks I I don't know what else to say I don't I'm not making any excuses okay but I don't know what to say shout out um will who is 60 minutes away from the Hall of Famers um the only thing I don't like about the Hall of Fame is it it's in Ohio I can't stand Ohio I cannot stand that I was I was taken there against my will as a child cuz I didn't know I was going there I just knew I was going to Cedar Point and I didn't know it was in a Ohio but that's another story for another day um so will says that Davenport is going to shut up the haters and the so content creators uh will says Ohio has cheap house prices I I wonder why will I wonder why Ohio has cheap house prizes because no one wants to live there that's why [Laughter] all right uh so let's move on to the next topic um we were talking about Davenport uh and his his impact on these Detroit Lions um and maybe it's it's a signing that has gone under the radar okay so now we are going to talk about the rake straw surprise is it a surprise or is it not so in is rraw apparently is a completely different player when the pads come on this morning when I was on the rise and grind Morning Show shout out will shout out Eric I said something maybe it's a hot take but it wasn't really a take it was just a question and I want to POS the question to the chat I'll get into the article but I want you guys to think about your answer to this question while I'm reading the article my my question that I posed is what or how would you feel if inis rraw turned out to be better than terion Arnold like what is your proposal after you find out okay inis rraw is better than terion Arnold what is going to happen how does that affect the defense how does that affect the team the scheme what is your suggestion what should we do obviously both of them are going to play that's not the question I'm not saying anything like you know get terion Arnold out of town he's the second coming of Jeff okuda he's not he's not Craig if you're still here I'm not going to get into it okay we agree to disagree I'm not going to bring that up again but what do you guys think would be the outcome if that happens to be uh the reality all right so we have an article from Jeremy Risman um says Lions rookie cornerback in his rraw already showing disruptive potential based on Tuesday's training camp practice Lions rookie cornerback inis rraw is looking like he could be a disruptive player Detroit Lions rookie quarterback in his R straw knows he isn't supposed to listen to the outside noise but one tweet slipped through the doors of Allen Park and into the defensive backs room one tweet noted that through four practices the Lions defense had not recorded a single interception in team drills oops I think that was Jeremy ryman's tweet so on Tuesday the flag Gates opened and it was Ray straw who broke the seal picking off hinden hooker although the quarter back likely would have been sacked on the play he says I seen that on Twitter I watched Twitter and I've seen that I was like okay now so we got to do something R straw said a little later R straw nearly had another but couldn't hold on the rest of the defense however would quickly follow linebacker Derek Barnes was in uh perfect position to pick off Jered gof and Reserve safety Lauren Strickland made a great break on the ball to step in front of a hooker pass for a total of three interceptions for the defense on Tuesday guys you keep it clean you shouldn't step in front of a hooker pass that's all I'm going to say all right rig straw the team's second round pick will have to work his way into the starting lineup but he's starting to stack days together the Lions have been adamant about creating more turnovers this year they only had 23 last year which was 8 18th in the league and rraw was not only the first to intercept a passing camp but he also was the first to force a fumble and that's something he actually likes more than picking off quarterbacks I know that sounds kind of crazy but when you force a fumble it shows the real toughness that you got because you got to actually go up and hit somebody and then punch it out re shw said sometimes you might get stiff arm to the ground but as long as the ball's out that's all that matters Ms Ray straw and fellow rookie cornerback terion Arnold were both picked by Detroit because of that kind of physical play and now with the pads out they're both already starting to make an impression on Coach Dan Campbell they don't mess around for rookies and they're trying to win the rep and they're trying to get better and they're both athletic Campbell said so you feel like okay there again first day it's not too big for them they were ready for the challenge of it now do they have a lot of work yeah they do so it was very encouraging Arnold who is expected to start in week one jumped into the media scrum with rraw and made sure to let the people know that he plans on being next oh yeah I got to go get one Arnold said but they come in bunches he got it so it's going to come one of many if the Lions can't add this level of disruption and aggression to their defense this year who knows what this team's limit will be so everybody in the chat let me know how many times you think that the lion secondary will pick off Caleb Williams in both of our games this season special for Broski bear uh no I'm good yeah n my my my water is good I it's it's on slow cook right now uh I know I know it's a lot of fire going on back there but it's I I got it it's good the the temperature set is going to last for an hour and then I have to go check it so you know that's guys if you didn't know that's why my show is only an hour cuz I'm I'm back here cooking so you know um so Broski bear apparently is uh is is making a lot of noise in the chat um let's see so Taylor May media says R Straw's physicality might match branches that's what coach Townson uh looking at in the Reps I would agree uh listen remember last season last training camp we just heard about Brian Branch Brian Branch Brian branch and Brian Branch was just jumping off the scene making plays all over training camp to the point where they had to uh get him involved they had to get him on the field so they bumped uh CH Chanty Gardner Johnson CJ CJ back to safety um because he was supposed to be playing the nickel so they bumped him back to safety because they needed to get Brian branch on the field can in this rraw beat out amek Robertson and Emanuel Mosley who are both competing for the uh starting cornerback job that is the question uh we do know that inis rraw is able to play both inside out and outside just like Emanuel Mosley and just like amek Robertson to some degree um it's about the runfit okay this is the thing and I and I said this before I said that amek Robertson so all of the the reports and people hanging on to these reports that am Robertson was terrible in the slot and this is why um the Raiders moved off of that experiment that wasn't the case it wasn't that he was terrible in the slot because he couldn't cover it was that sometimes in the slot as a a nickel cornerback you slide into a position where you are sort of a linebacker you're a quasi linebacker and amig wasn't great at that okay so he is a dog but he's also a small Corner um and tackling you know Derk Henry might not be his thing so you have to understand the situation the roster that you're going against uh can amek Robertson play in the St yes he can will the Run fit be better with another corner with inis rraw with Emanuel Mosley now I have not heard any interviews with um Ami Robertson talking about how much he loves to tackle they may be out there I haven't heard them I haven't seen them now just I just read you an article where um in his RAR was saying likes to tackle show the toughness he likes to force fumbles Emanuel Mosley said he likes to stick his face in the fan and let people feel him so both of these guys are talking about that toughness and that's where the Run fit comes into play are they going to be able to or is Ami Robertson going to be able to match their intensity I'm not going to doubt him because he's an absolute dog but is he going to be able to match their ofinity for tackling this is the question um and this is what we're trying to get get answered in training camp in the preseason all right let's see did anybody answer the question about R straw being better um let's see if R straw is better than uh jrod says the stove behind me is fake what do you mean why would the stove be fake I'm always cooking uh let's see do you think we go for a dline player after the commish injury um I mean it it depends on how things shake out we've got a a lot of guys out there um I think uh they had to take a step back with with bets um I think Campbell was saying something like that just had to take a little bit a little bit off of his plate um he is coming from the CFL um but here's the thing somebody on that defensive line wasn't going to make it some people think it would have been kamish so I'm going to say that if he indeed wasn't going to make it because he did have a Down Season last year if he indeed wasn't going to make it then no I don't think you bring in another defensive lineman um I think they're comfortable with what they have I think um alen mcneel said Wingo was another one of those aggressive players so you know they want to give the people that they have a chance uh now 53 man cuts come down and a really good player and this is at any position this is at wide receiver I don't think so much at running back um but offensive line possibly uh if if it's a situation where a really good player gets cut uh out of uh let's say who has new coaches this year the Chargers have a new coach uh uh I think the Titans have a new coach who uh the Seattle has a new coach um does anybody else have new coaches Atlanta has a new coach so just you know you see what I'm getting at like if if a really good player from any of those situations gets cut because they don't fit the new scheme or something of that nature that I think you have to look at bringing somebody like that in so this is the only situation that I I feel like after the cuts they could bring someone in they usually do is it going to be on the defensive line I'm not so sure also the availability of DJ reader has to come into play um if he's not available week one do they put him on the the pup to start the season and sit him down for four weeks or do they go like what they did with Emanuel Mosley and not put him on the pup um because he should be available week two week three um so there's a lot of factors that go into are they going to bring in a de a defensive lineman um so Rick says if terion lives up to the hype I want rraw to be better that would mean we're set at Q at at cornerback okay I can agree with that um Mike P says Ray straw needs to stop being handsy okay so he said need to stop being handsy or he'll have major problems not College anymore uh yeah they'll coach that out of him they'll coach out out of them it's you you can do that right they couldn't coach it out of uh jeffre vuda but you know they they can coach it out of players um you know what what happens with cornerbacks that come into the league sometimes being handy uh handsy just means not trusting your Technique so I think that once rraw gets more comfortable he will be more trusting of his technique which means that he'll have to to use his hands less um and if you get really good at jamming at the line because it I mean this is we know this is going to be a man heavy defense okay so if you get really good at jamming at the line um disrupting routes before they get started then you really don't have to be handsy um depending on what receiver you're playing against he might give up on his route um so I was watching a a podcast with Devonte Adams yesterday it was Club sh um and so Devonte Adams gave up a secret about himself and I think he should have given it up but he did uh but in the game I'm not sure how much it it it's going to be on the mind of the defensive back that is covering him so basically he said that you know sometimes a defensive back's coverage will be so good that he's not able to get to the route on time so what he'll do let's like let's say he's he's running a curl but the curl was so well so well covered that the quarterback moved off of him you know as you know he's the number one read so they went to two three or four so he said he'll stick his foot in the ground so hard and like make a move just to make the DB think that it was going to be a double move but in reality it wasn't going to be the DB actually did get him uh he did Cover him perfectly uh but what he wants to do is he wants to play mind games with the DB so you know as a rookie if you're playing against a crafty receiver like that then it's you're definitely going to be handsy because you don't trust yourself so that's what he needs to do he just needs to get more comfortable uh now there will be there will be receivers that was my point there will be receivers that will just give up on the route um and be like you got me so I'm not doing anything else um but that's not how we run our routes here so he's going to be much more used to covering a Devonte Adams type thing where you know you you've got to cover throughout the entire play until it's time to go make the tackle elsewhere uh so I think that'll help him out though uh and and get him get him more comfortable more quickly uh Mike P says Auda never got close enough to be handsy no he he would get close enough but miss right uh Jeff AUD have missed a lot of jams at the line um now that is one thing that I did see when we were doing the pre-draft uh about terion Arnold he can miss um and then when he misses his you know his feet will cross um and that will cause him to get beat in man coverage so that's another thing that you know that they have to to coach out of him and it's something that he's working on anyway because he's always working on his footwork and things of this nature so I think he'll be fine um but Jeff okuda yeah he was a behind a lot of people uh because he he wasn't a great Jammer in man coverage um Williams or Townsen which CA yeah I think you mean towns and Trace cuz Williams is the Terrell Williams is the coach for the defensive line unless there's another Williams That's slipped my mind uh who makes the roster after Davenport Pascal Betts Houston Hutchinson a good yeah that was the point like there's a lot of there's a lot of people there so bringing in someone would be you know it it would have to be a great a great player that has a chance to crack this roster all right uh yes I do need 28 more subscribers to get to two to a, so make sure you are smashing that like button make sure you are subscribing uh make sure you are sharing and speaking of sharing the stream see I need a somebody's got to remind me man somebody Trace when we get started just remind me to share the stream um so I just shared it like I said it was late but you know shared it anyway uh so let's go on to the next topic we've been talking about inis rraw uh now we are going to be getting into the camp recap for day number seven uh if you guys have seen my Camp Recaps man it's all about tim2 men man uh again phenomenal job man uh next time hope like I said hopefully next year I get to go to Camp um definitely want to meet Tim tman have a lot of respect for what he does all right so let's get into the recap for day seven so lighter practice today after two high-intensity pattered practices on Monday and Tuesday the Lions eased back Wednesday and had a lighter walkthrough style practice veteran Edge rusher Aiden Hutchinson said afterward the players always appreciate head coach Dan Campbell and his ability to know when to ramp up practice and tone it down with the players in mind two days in pads and and these guys got after it Campbell said uh before practice it felt like we got a little bit better here and today will be a jog through ramp them back down before we go we go back up in the next two days okay I I've always said quoting coaches needs to be uh doesn't need to be verbatim quoting quoes does not need to be verbatim cuz coach speak is a is a different langu all right officials make an appearance Boo get them off the stage all right training camp isn't just a time for the players to get ramped up for the regular season but it's a chance for the officials to come in and get re acclimated to the speed of everything happening in front of them and focus on new rule implementations and areas of emphasis for the year it will be good to have officials in Camp for the next few days where they can be the judges of holding and interference and not the players so I definitely would have liked to have seen Brad Allen be there and then they would give um all of the fans tomatoes and he could be pelted with tomatoes um just Tomatoes though we don't want to do any you know serious bodily harm but just you know the public embarrassment of being pelted with tomatoes at Lion's training camp would have been good for Brad Allen all right no days off a majority of the starters along the offensive line had the day off Wednesday but not pan Su while Taylor Decker Graham Glascow Frank ragnell and Kevin zitler had the day off Su flipped over to left tackle and got reps there for the day um pan Su was one of the people and also David Montgomery they were uh interviewed by uh NFL Network Cynthia Freeland was there uh wh was there um and they sat down with him and asked him some question question uh Pan's son is 21 months old and uh he's going to be a monster of a human being I just that kid is huge uh okay who filled in with those four starters up front out the reserves who filled in were coyote aasa left guard Michael N Center Ike uh beter Right Guard and Dan Skipper left tackle that's where the early depth will come from upfront along the offensive line no Kobe Sor uh C is his name Cody Sor style all right I know his name but you know sometimes it just slips um verifying uh varying Styles it's interesting to me to watch the two different styles of coaching offensive coordinator Ben Johnson and defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn half Johnson usually hangs back and lets Jared G and the other quarterbacks run the unit and doesn't say much unless something isn't right and then he'll certainly let his guys know it uh who let his guys know it wasn't up to his standard Glenn is constantly talking to his guys on the field after every play and has a very Hands-On and vocal approach two very good coaches with two different coaching Styles at practice um I think that kind of speaks to the talent that both of them have had I don't know their demeanor um as people but I would say that Ben Johnson definitely has had more vegetables to cook with um than Aaron Glenn um Aaron Glenn's vegetables haven't been um very ripe um to to say the least so that might be it or that might just be what their coaching styles are regardless of personnel um it would be interesting to see what Aaron Glenn does and how he coaches as this defense progresses I think he'll be able to trust them more just like Ben Johnson is able to trust the offense so you might see a difference but I can't say that 100% for sure all right walk through golf it's also interesting to me to watch golf go through a walkthrough practice and the process he has on every play during those lighter practices he isn't always throwing the football but he points through his progressions that's interesting to watch from the outside looking in to see what's going through his mind and how a particular play calls for or how a particular play calls for what progressions it may be low intensity but it's still really important work for Goof and his past catchers um so another thing that I got from that podcast with Devonte and he was talking about his relationship with Aaron Rogers and how if you guys watch receiver you remember how he was always complaining about getting messed up every every game uh with Jimmy gaz's quarterback so he was talking about how when Aaron Rogers was his quarterback you know there were certain throws that he would make to protect him uh and then Shannon sharp said the same thing about John Elway you know and he said he would tell him if I give you a back shoulder that's because there's trouble you know somewhere if I throw it to your left if I throw it to your right I'm trying to navigate the trouble to prevent you from getting a headache you know AKA a concussion right getting knocked out so uh having someone like gof and this is this goes into the whole continuity thing if he's able to trust you and he's able to get on the uh same page with you as a receiver it's better for you in the long run because he's not going to be leading you into um danger so that was just an interesting tidbit that I picked up um from watching that all right so that was the cap uh the camp recap for day number seven it was a light day and not much to say about that so the next thing that we're going to get into uh before we get out of here is we're going to be talking about Dan Campbell talking about change apparently the NFL is a little bit different these days than it was when he was a player all right so Dan Campbell talking about change uh this came from the Detroit news and Nolan biani uh or biani I think it's biani but much has changed since Dan Campbell's playing days but honestly uh but honesty is still in style uh a lot has changed in the NFL since Lions head coach Dan Campbell's playing days but there is perhaps no time of year where the culture shift is more noticeable than during training camp Campbell on Tuesday said the league and its players are better off for the changes that have come to practice time and the allowance of contact while discussing the challenge of acclimating players for the season and trying to keep them healthy while reduction in practice time live contact and preseason reps have all been meant to benefit players safety Campbell said there's a fine line between running the players into the ground and not preparing them enough right so we just heard um Aiden Hutchinson earlier talking about how the players love and appreciate that Dan Campbell can ramp up the intensity and bring it back down all with them in mind it's not about him it's about the players so he says when you go live the intensity goes way up the exertion that puts on the body is totally different and your players need that because they have to do that on Sunday for 70 plays so I don't want that to be the first time Campbell said there's going to be more there's going to be some of these guys that we don't play in the preseason so I don't want this heavy exertion all this torque through their body to be the first time in 70 plays on Sunday they need to get it now on grass that's another reason why we do it but it's uh it's always a fine line it's always a fine line listen there's nothing easy about it but I just feel like it's what's best for our guys and our um so important nugget there there are players that are not going to be playing in the preseason as we know um jarro G might be one of those guys that's not going to play a whole lot um I would expect him to get a little bit of work in the preseason because he's a quarterback need to get a little bit of work right needs to get needs to get on the same page get some throws to J Mo right um so but it's probably going to be the hinden hooker and Nate sudfeld show so they're going to get give henden hooker a lot of opportunities as we've said before uh two a days were eliminated in the 2011 collective bargaining agreement three years after Campbell retired as a player some could argue that reduced practice time can lead to sloppy play League wide to start the season but Campbell still believes the new rules in place are a net positive for the players even if he wishes they had more time in pads if you never played football before two w dayss were brutal two practices every day you get up at the butt crack of dawn you have a practice you come back in you rest for a little bit uh maybe a few hours then you're going to go back out there and you're going to practice again um later in the day so there was a lot of hydrating a lot of eating between those you know those two practices cuz it took a lot out of you and I can only imagine how much more intense uh it was in the NFL listen the days of the two a days at some point in this Camp I'm going to put up the old two a day schedule so our players can see it and the two scripts for the practices Campbell said I think we are better off for the new rules the body this game has changed so much and the athletes are so much different and I think they're geared so much higher now than it was back then everything felt like a marathon and the game was so much more in a box downhill running game Power two back heavy personnel there was just so much more of that then once the spread offense came in the athletes changed so I think this is a good thing where we are at the only thing that I wish let's try not to Tinker with the rules of the game I like that we're trying to take care of the players and the body doesn't need that type of beating but man the more we start dialing back we still playing pads the game is still in pads I just hate to lose the element of what made the game the game that's all but we're going to try and squeeze everything out of it that we can that's how we play football here all right so you got if you guys were here this morning that's why I said I do not watch the Pro Bowl I haven't watched the Pro Bowl in a very long time um I don't think I watched the Pro Bowl since it went to uh since it left Hawaii I can pretty much guarantee that I haven't seen one since it left Hawaii but uh they no longer playing pets so we don't want that trending towards actual football becoming flag football uh the NFL is not ever going to let that happen um so back in Campbell's day a light day consisted of being allowed to take off practice pants and put on shorts for the second practice session if you're with coach Bill Parcels if you're really lucky he'll take the pants off in the afternoon we're still in shoulder pad and it's still 2 and a half hours but pants are off guys and that was like what a treat you just SLI the shorts on with the shoulder pads and here we go man nine on seven but that was life right campell's ability to put himself in his player shoes is one of the reasons why he quickly became one of the most beloved coaches in the NFL both internally and externally that applies not just to the way he runs practices or the effort he puts into player safety but also the way he looks after them mentally after offensive tackle Taylor Taylor Decker on Monday detailed a man-to-man conversation he had with Campbell about his extension the Lions coach talked about how his open door policy was shaped by his own playing experience I've told gu I've told the guys from day one if something is bothering you you can always general manager Brad Holmes and myself come talk to us and we will tell you what our mindset is where we're at what we're thinking Campbell said we're not going to shy away from that so we've told everybody that I remember what it was like as a player and I was lied to at one point and I will never do that to a player so even if it's going to hurt a little bit I want him to know the truth authenticity man uh authenticity authenticity that is the word that everybody uses when they describe Dan Campbell um there are some coaches that I'm thinking of right now in my head like yep he's probably lying to players yep him too him too yep oh that one definitely uh but that's not going to be Dan Campbell man and it's refreshing in a society now where everybody's feelings are hurt so easily it's refreshing to know that a a coach is not willing to lie to you to protect your feelings because the thing happens that if he lies to you and he's trying to protect your feelings you're not going to be able to get better you need to take that criticism whether the criticism is you need to get better on your pass rush you need to get better on your dropback you need to get better at coverage or you're going to get cut because you're not you know this that and the third thing like all of that is important for the players to know and to understand players want to play as long as they can um now some players they have different uh different goals and and you know what they want to do with their lives after football and things of that nature but for the most part most of the guys want to play as long as they can so if Dan Campbell is in a meeting face to face with you and he's lying to you he's not helping you he's not helping you he's not helping him okay so when he helps you he helps him it's as simple as that you know even if he's helping you out of the door what you're going to do is spread the word around the league as a player that man they cut me but they treated me like a human being on my way out um I I saw a podcast I don't remember what the podcast was and I don't remember who the player was um but this player told a story about how he was his most brutal cut I think it was busting with the boy but I don't remember the player that was talking he said the most brutal way that he was cut was he was playing in a game I think in San Francisco and he said his family his wife and and and daughter you know they lived in that area uh so obviously he was kind of a journeyman so you know he lived the house was where the house was so they're in in the uh they're at the game I guess he said he didn't play so before they got back back on the plane he went to talk to the coach in the locker room he's like look man can I just stay here he said I know I know what's going to happen you know so just let me stay and they were like no no we don't know what we're going to do yet blah blah blah blah blah so he gets back on the plane he flies back to I think it was Seattle um and he said the first the when they started announcing the cuts first person they called to the office was him like imagine how you would feel imagine how you would feel like in the moment he probably wanted to strangle the coach because it's like I just I could have turned in my playbook like I asked you I knew you were going to cut me you know and you sat there and lied to my face and said we don't know what we're going to do yet so I mean it's brutal man but but Dan Campbell Brad Holmes man they're they're on the right track to the culture that they built treating these people like people okay they're human beings right um locking down the guys that have been part of the culture that have been cornerstones that have come in and worked their butts off not letting them go to another team uh Taylor Decker spoke to that in his press conference when he was talking about um when he was talking about his extension uh that was part of building the culture not just trying to bring in the younger cheaper guy because he's younger and cheaper just for the sake of getting younger and cheaper no keeping the guys that have helped to establish the culture keeping the guys that have helped to build what this is uh rewarding them paying them extending them allowing them to you know finish their careers here so you know it's invaluable for the players man so shout out to Brad Holm shout out to Dan Campbell shout out to Sheila shout out to Chris Shout out to Mike dner shout out to everybody man in Alliance organization uh you are really doing it the right way um so let's see what you guys have to say before I get out of here um Cal Al Kadri zik uh it's a little bit Arabic in there so if you had to let one player walk due to cap concerns who would it be Al J bran Kirby Gibbs or leapor man I can't even pick one of those um I'm I guess the easy answer is Kirby uh that's just an easy answer because of the names that you mentioned I'm not not behind letting Kirby go um or or any of these guys um so I don't know you know camp Camp things can or not camp but cap things can always be mitigated but I think what what the team is doing here with the contracts that they're giving out and the way that they're construct constructing them I think that it's going to limit any of these types of situations yeah you can't pay everybody but the cap goes up year after year so if they're structuring these contracts in a way and it looks like they are um if they're if they're structuring these contracts in a way that protects them so the next contract can get signed the next contract can get signed and the next contract can get signed I think all of these guys are going to be able to get signed here um but you never know you never know what happens but that's a that's an interesting question um who's Judson oh judan okay um Trey says let the Bears buy him they're a paper team bought and paid for uh is Broski Bears still in here I think he left you guys bullied him into leaving shame on you guys um so rockon says just push the stream on X see if we get 20 more subs let's get it man let's get it let's get to a th000 by the end of this stream man let's be at a th000 on Friday when I come back for Friday let's be at a th000 man let's give away some helmets you know let's start these giveaways um Taylor Made media says players make the coach I'm going to disagree with that one in certain situations yes but in certain situations the the coach makes the player okay so there's a narrative there's a narrative out there and I'm not saying I agree with this narrative that Ben Johnson made Jared go as I said I'm not saying that I agree with the narrative but I will tell you one thing that Shawn McVey destroyed Jared gof he destroyed his reputation around the league um and now the Lions and Jared GF himself obviously with his play they're helping him get that reputation back okay like I said PFF was complete 180 I don't know what happened what what new information they got because it was right before training camp that they took him from the 18th overall quarterback to the ninth uh so he moved up nine spots like I said no games were played wasn't the first training camp practice hadn't even been conducted and he just moved up so I don't know but um yeah I think that it's the the circumstance okay Tom Brady made Josh McDonald's 100% Tom Brady made Josh McDaniel's because Josh McDaniel um everywhere he goes he fails because he's a he's a square peg round hole type of guy um did Patrick Mahomes make Andy Reid no did Donovan McNab make Andy Reid no is this didn't happen did Alex Smith make Andy Reed no so I it's got to be a this the situation is the situation different players make coaches different coaches make players okay now did Andy Reed make Patrick Mahomes no but Andy Reid gave Patrick Mahomes the freedom to be Patrick Mahomes whereas some other coaches might have kind of tried to re him in a bit like let's say if you have really dumb coach like uh let's think of one his name is Bobby Ross and he tries to re in the greatest running back of all time okay so you know had had Patrick Mahomes gone to a control freak type of situation Patrick Mahomes might not be who he is because he might not have gotten the room um and the cart blanch if you will to Blossom and to become who he is so like I said I think it's um it it's it's it's situationally dependent you know it depends on the coach and it depends on the player um the four family has always been about loyalty yes to a fault two of fa William Clay for was too loyal to everybody and a lot of people should have got fired a lot faster than they were like Matt Millan you know things of this nature um jrod what text would you like me to read man uh put it back in the chat I'll see if I can get to it um oh go go who is that go go genger or go go Ginger appreciate appreciate your appreciation um if you'd like to join me in my my kitchen I'm cooking too I'm always cooking in the kitchen uh Taylor Made Me says fair enough is John Harbaugh successful without Lamar Jackson taking the snaps yes John Harbaugh won a Super Bowl without Lamar Jackson taking the snaps so yes 100% um now was John Harbaugh on his way out of the door had he kind of lost the luster a little bit it seems that way that was the speculation before they drafted Lamar Jackson um so we could say that if the if that speculation was true then Lamar Jackson saved the career of John Harbaugh but John Harbaugh was already a super Super Bowl winning coach he beat John right or he beat what the heck Jim Michigan fan I forgot all right so he beat Jim in the Super Bowl so I would say that Lamar Jackson did not make John Harbaugh no um Burton played for the Giants and then last year play in for the UFL Panthers which Burton are we talking about I'm I'm a little bit behind um so jrod says oh you're talking about you're talking about broki bear he did out coach his brother uh 100% he out coached his brother um I I just didn't like that whole blackout thing like come on NFL man you you the biggest event of the year in America is the Super Bowl and you allow a Blackout um and and the 49ers almost clawed back into that game you know it was it was down to a last play of the game type of situation so all right great you guys have been awesome man as always um again I just want to give a huge shout out to th to those of you that were here this morning and stuck with us through the technical difficulties man uh we're always working to get better always trying to give you guys the best product possible um you know we're small right now but we're we're trying to grow this thing we're trying to grow this thing and get better so appreciate you all as always love to see you guys in the chat um training cap meet up man I won't be there obviously I'm in Australia um can't get back to the States at the moment but make sure you guys you you know meet up man take a lot of pictures get pictures with with the players get pictures with the players man get them autographed get them sign man get them give them to your kids give them to your grandkids uh cuz those types of things just I mean they're invaluable man so um go Lions go one Pride all grit all day and I'll see you guys soon peace
