Leon dry Sidle will be next year at least right now the NHL's highest paid player $14.4 million uh it's a front loaded deal from what we know eight-year contract so he is committed to Edmonton for the next nine years because he's still under contract for this season according to Pierre LeBron dry saddle contract front loaded includes a no move Clause throughout both sides agreed to the bigger parts around that number I just I remember when McDavid signed his contract the 12.5 and no one was making 12.5 or close to it at the time and so you know that number was a factor no player can and now I'm the value that they have placed in the CBA for this guy it's like okay you're you've qualified for this extension you are amongst that player so here it is we figure out the rest of the roster the guys who aren't as valuable that are interchangeable and that's why you have guys on NBA roster is making a couple million and guys making 62 million and I feel like the NBA the NHL should work more from like a stars and scrubs scenario where it's like you have an $18 million McDavid but you have a couple defensemen who are making a million dollar because that's their worth and they're interchangeable I think that would make more sense in the free market I this is a this is completely side no no I know I know apologize can I jump in with the real hard number yeah 88 million is the team salary cap this year no player can earn more than 17.6 million this year so you would expect that um that percentage goes up next year I think that's close to 20% if it's not 20% so I would imagine that if say McDavid signs his extension he's got two more years you know mcdavid's cracking 15 is he cracking 16 so Conor McDavid starts two years from now Conor mcdavid's eligible for an extension on July 1st that's right yeah this upcoming 2025 July 1st this this one and he can make more in aggregate if he stays in Edmonton obviously because he can sign the eth year so that brings his aav down but if he were to go to UFA oh man right like what oh man like we'll never I don't think we'll ever see a max player I think you I think you should I think you should I I think if if anybody's worth it it's ever going to be a Max Level play it's Conor McDavid yeah he should make 18 Mill cuz it's going to be in around 18 or 18 and a half or whatever it is when the salary cap goes 20% is your max every year uh and so I think uhoh math here we go so if we're talking about the salary cap going up another 3 or 4 million which they're projecting this year they're expecting 92 to be the salary cap next year and then when Conor's deal strikes it'll be like 96 97 million so the max so he's this year is 17.6 yeah so the closest anyone is is Matthews is like nearly what four and a half mil ma like this is this is what I'm saying Max NHL cap hit has never been close to a factor no no so like he's not getting it you should get you should offer it to him why not why not maybe he's assists dri you know but like whatever it is it's a lot and if it's if the percentage you can make the argument in that if he can if he can bring x amount of percent of points to the team like this many points out of the the 100% that we get uh then the 20% is worth it well th this is what's been frustrating uh with the conversation about the Leafs and getting rid of Marner or or whoever um well
