[Music] good afternoon and welcome to a special edition of the Rams review podcast and we are joined by a very special guest a gentleman by name of Dan Weaver who uh is from the official wolves fans Twitter social media page um Dan's GNA join us this afternoon to talk about Derby Count's 10th signing of the season a gentlemen by the name of Tanda cha uh good afternoon Dan afternoon well thank you for joining us on such short notice really appreciate your time um we're going to have 15 minutes talking about Darby's new signing who actually made his debut last night in a very poor performance where he got beat by Barrow in the carabal on penalties um just to let you know he played actually his inside number seven rather his natural position who knows why he played there last night but he got a booking after 17 minutes and didn't really try to get into the game but we'll we'll put to one side because you know it is what it is we'll we'll leave that in the carabal box so Dan teranda he came to wolves just look at his stats 2019 I believe from MP switch as as a youngster and tell us a bit about his development through the ranks at wolver rampson wonderers yeah so um I remember when we did buy him from uh from it switch I remember there was quite a lot of uh lot people ring about him he was doing really well um I can't remember how much we bought him for but I know it was quite a substantial fee for somebody of his age um and yeah obviously when he come through he went straight off into the I think at the age he was um I'm not sure 18 at the time he went straight into the 21s and uh he was good enough for that level and obviously since being in in 21 the only just like got better and impressed and and there was a few people calling for him to be in the first in this is before our injury crisis um last season there's a few people who like wanted to have a look at him and uh obviously last season his opportunity come with obviously with injuries to Wang CA um Netto like a whole front and balard like a whole front four got injured so obviously that's good opportunity for him to come in and uh he was originally second best to knan Fraser um Fraser was just because he's a bit taller and like looks a bit more physical um he he was kind of like second to him um but then I remember in the FA Cup game which we unfortunately lost to centry um Fraser wasn't really in the game in the first half and then Shere would come on and he did more in 10 minutes than what frasa did and a lot of people were saying oh he he he made runs in beond he tried to make stuff happen he he tried to take by his on he was positive um and yeah after I guess that little little Cameo last season of like uh coming in coming on some games and stuff like that I think Arsenal at home as well he come on and he did really well um someone actually created a compilation of like his highlights against Arsenal at home where like for a young player looked quite confident so that was always a positive as well but I think in terms of like his development and think some he was lacking a bit of physicality like his movement was good he's got a good football brain um and it just it was just more about his physicality and can he like playing more regular football maybe the championship is probably the right place for him so so just to correct myself he actually joined you in 2023 actually joined IP switch at 2019 so I do apologize for that so look at his stats from last year so he made a total of of eight appearances in the Premier League 139 minutes I believe he did he actually start did he actually make his debut starting against Arsenal or or was it a cameo appearance because that's where I sort of first heard his name and obviously also had minutes in total looking at this 139 minutes in the Premier League and played against the lights of Brighton and Man City when he was coming on or when he played his role what was his responsibility for wolves on in the particular game was he was he joining games where it had pretty much been done and dust and the Wolves were just sort of seeing out of the minutes or was he generally put on there to try and make a change um he was trying trying to make a change uh and to give us something a little bit different because uh like I mentioned about Fraser being like Fraser was the first sort of choice at the time um Fraser didn't really have much pace and he was giving us something a bit different because he didn't really run him behind Fraser he was more of like a holdup man and then cha was was more of getting him behind so um when we did bring him on most games it was for him to make a difference uh he was he didn't like he didn't sit as like high up as Fraser so he was he was sitting a bit deeper to get the ball from what I noticed in terms of his debut against Arsenal funny enough I was actually on holiday for that game so I don't remember if he did start but I know obviously he did play and uh and I I always go with my dad to the game so my dad said he looked good when he come on um so yeah in terms of those eight appearances I think most of it was yeah him trying to come on make a difference trying to like make something happen I think to be honest as well like it's nothing against him but we had not really any of option um there was no our bench was really weak so like Chaya was one of the only few attacking players on there who we really could bring on Fresh leg to try and make something happen so um and obviously he did he did okay I mean you can't put too much pressure on the lb's shoulders uh he did fine I think like but I said like don't think he's quite ready for that yet which is why I think Alan it's perfect for him now so so he scored five goals I'm reading his stats here last year in eight appearances for for the Premier League two side under 21s which is a pretty good return really five and eight um do you do you think that his physicality or or or his his current physique will be hindrance in the championship and you believe that he might have to put on a few pounds or do you think that actually is in his favor with his sort of tell us what he like as a player is he is he quick on the ball is he is he Pacey how would you easily describe him um I'd say yeah relatively pacy um he's not he's not like a whip it like d something like that but he's a he's pretty pacy uh terms of physicality um obviously some obviously tough to to say because in the Prem obviously a lot of teams like to play Fancy football um and I know that's rubbing off on the championship a bit more now than it than he used to but the championship in terms of like physicality and the way the football's played it's not as Ticky Tacker nice and neat football which and you don't get as much time on the ball like maybe I don't know I don't watch a championship as much now but that's what it would like when obiously we were there it was probably I'd imagine it's still similar um in terms of him like holding the ball up and physicality that might be probably one of his weaker points from what I've seen um but obviously silly young lad he's he's got time to to come on but I think in terms of like his pace and the way he is he like he likes to run with the ball likes to pick up the ball he likes to do he's got confidence for a young lad he like like I said against Arsenal he tried to pick up the ball get involved with the game tried to make stuff happen and IU's positive with it um so he's the type of player that will try and get OB involved we'll um we'll run with the ball we'll try things like he might give the ball away a few times and things like that but um yeah I just I just say he's just a confident confident player bit of pace but yeah his physicality might be something that could let him down at times against his big six foot five Center halfs in the championship that might be a might be his uh not his downfall but a weak point for him so we'll see yeah looking at your website um your football development uh head Matt Jackson was saying that he he's pretty much out there just for a year loan just to sort of build him up for ready for the big time is that how you see it or do you think that this will be more of a case of put him in potentially in a shop window or do you want us to see a future for him at wolves and in the structure because obviously there's been big change at wolves over the last couple of years and it's obviously a rebuilding under um the new management from last year do you see him fitting in in the future it's really tough to to say because um a lot of these players we we like young players like obious T is a good example we just bought a young lad today from St mirin for like 300 300K something like that like he's these are players you think for the future but a lot of them never really get there like with wolves wolves tend to like just just buy these players for like like know cheap like 50k and they'll sell them for like a million or we're like it's strange to to predict that with Wolves we're so weird with our like our Academy system like uh you'd hope to see more of them and like our Academy has been good over the last few years and like these players like it's it's tough to like expect them to come in so I wouldn't be surprised if he does St if he does like not stay at Derby but like if he does okay Derby want to buy him and then we we'll just if Derby say you do want to permanently sign him I don't think would' be too fussed about letting him go I think that's the way wolves operate now um yeah I don't think we're we always save for the Academy but we tend to always just sell players on so I mean I hope so I hope we can see him in future um again I hope wolves can like look at the Academy more and uh and players like tra can can make it all the way through it's always nice to see someone coming through the academy and I know he was originally from ipswitch but spend like a year or so with us and see him into the first team but yeah I would if I had to say now I'd say probably I don't expect him to to make the first team um just because of the way we are the way we ran yeah yeah and and that's the feedback really Darby fans need to be realistic about and honestly because sometimes Premier League loans are more a benefit to the Prem to actual to to to the Premiership Club in the sense of putting them in the shot window if they do well at Derby but still can't make the grade of that Premier League level like you said exactly in that piece it potentially puts them into a six figure sum uh as a sellon um reading here they they mentioned Ryan Giles played for Paul War at uh at rotheram and one of the big reasons why uh Tander has come to Derby is because Paul war did really well with Ryan Giles is is Ryan Giles a player that's s in the fold at wolves and doing well is that I can you see definitely a better player in GES um I think Jes has improved since he's gone out on loan um when he was at wolves he did similar to tr did quite well for our our Premier League two team um and then he went out I think it was to shwb um did well there um he got like quite a lot of assists I think he got like the record amount of assists for Cardiff as well last season or season before then he's been on at middles BR um and he's improved play then when we did sell him on to to Luton um Luton bought him I think about five million maybe something so obviously wolves wolves I think has been since a really young age so we made a hefty profit off jaws and I think that's that's more the key for wolves is if we can get that I don't think Jaws was ready for uh become straight in because obviously when you've got some of the players we have like ior like Internationals um playing at like playing for their Nations it's just it's obviously hard for him to to come in and even at youo breno as well was ahead of him he was another young left back going for L Academy Spanish left back even he was he's G on loan now but he was ahead of him as well so obiously it was kind of right for JS to to leave and obviously wolves have now signed stran lson and that's we got another Striker there it's just obviously for Chaya it's like it's he comes back it's going to be even tougher for him to to get into the fold so yeah I think I think it it'll do him good um I wish him well I always I always keep an eye on on own players and like you said uh B saw Charles at R and saw success must know we've got kep on some of our obviously our Academy players and things try canly do the business for you so uh I hope you can well that's a really good insight to him and I really appreciate that so let's just finish off the chat let's have a quick chat about wolves so it's not been the easiest of starts uh throughout the club at all levels sort of where wolves at this year what what's your expect ations because obviously you're now an established Premier League side and had some exciting players who some have now left this year I seeing gone to the lights of Liverpool one of you what is your expectations of wolves this year um I think I think unfortunately the expectations of woles fans is getting less and less every year uh because wolves tend to be our owners are quite funny like if you're seeing wolves Twitter at the minute um a lot of people not happy with the ownership uh they've already like kind of said that we any money to spend on players is only going to be funded by sales even our owners are like billionaires so it's a it's a bit frustrating obviously we sold Netto sold kilman 54 million for Netto 4 kill we sold 94 million pound worth of players and now we're the lowest Spenders again in the Premier League after Liverpool are buy and somebody which makes them go above us so we're we're only spent like 20 million and think where's where's the rest of that money gone and we've obviously sold Kil and haven't replaced him we've got a young Colombian Center half in mqu who is he is he ready he looks decent but can he stepped straight in and it's just it's a bit it's a bit of a tough one I mean for me I think if we stay up it's going to be a good season like it's not I don't expect anything from us and obiously to ship six goals to Chelsea at home it's quite strange we played well first half we're actually the better team so but our defense if we defend like that we're not going to win any game so um yeah I think it's tough to say after the first two games tough start obiously Arsenal and Chelsea I mean it's hard obviously to look at that and say yeah this is how it's going to be and this is where we're going to we're going to be um because we actually defended relatively well against Arsenal so it's only one game where don't get carried away and say oh we're going to be in a relegation fight but obviously with the with the way sold like senetto and kilman and that and yeah I think we look good coming forward but defensively I think I think we should be fine we should be fine but um I wouldn't be surprised to see us floating around there like 14th 15th uh our our uh Matt Hobbs one of our um people behind the scen said he said actually in a video that he thinks we're going to push for Europe which a lot of Wars fans are laughing at now but um so yeah I mean I think I think just just just this player uh would be probably what we're expecting around about 50 for mid-table would be a good season for us considering the way that the way it's going with the signings I mean there's still couple of days left of the transfer window so who knows but I saw we're signing Sam Johnson today which I'm I'm not sure that's really the priority area but some War fans are a bit confused with that but now um yeah I think if we if we stop up War fans I say happy with it but that's probably where we're expecting to be so yeah we feel your pain mate like yeah we had expectations given to us by our owner and who's a brilliant guy by the way we we have an amazing owner by name of David cla a local Derby lad and he said at the start of the Season that our our budget would be competitive but at the moment we're scraping in Premier League loans and and and unknowns and it's worrying and we're the same we we'll take 21st tomorrow in the championship survive and then build so but Dan look I wish you all the best I I'm sure that wolves Will Will Survive I think there is I think the positive thing with looking at the Wolves season ahead there are teams worse than you in that in that League Everton for one um I think that they will struggle terribly this year um so good luck Dan thank you very much for your time afterno it's a great Insight on Tanda we we'll look after him the best as we can but I'm I'm with you I think that this is him asking for the move to sort of get out there possibly change his career Direction and and and build his way in the championship but um real good
