After upwards of at least 20 power outages. Just this year, Jefferson parish leaders grilled energy at today's council meeting while the council doesn't have authority over the utility, Alyssa Curtis reports. Energy leaders outlined their plan moving forward. We only have 14 houses on my block and three of us now have generators because the power goes out so much. Residents in Jefferson parish are fed up and council members like Dino Bonano are backing them hit IDA three years ago. Over 100 mile an hour winds been we waiting 10 years to inspect polls that's not acceptable. The boiling over emotions directed at come after several power outages in the past few weeks have impacted thousands of residents. We have had an above normal amount of outages. Wednesday, Michelle Borg, vice president of customer service for Louisiana explained to the council what's been going on? This is the device that operated in an unintended way and caused that former to come off line. And that's why we saw so much of an impact. Borg said there's also been some other causes like lightning, vegetation and damage to poles. But the real important question is how are they fixing it. They say a resiliency plan. Next time we're challenged with a hurricane, the scale and the strength of an IDA or a Lara. We know that any infrastructure that we proactively replace, that will be installed with a new design basis and be able to withstand that, that very powerful storm will be standing in the face of the storm. Unlike in New Orleans here in Jefferson Parish, the council doesn't have any authority over energy Louisiana. That's where the public Service commission comes in. The commission has authorized energy Louisiana to spend upwards of $1.9 billion in infrastructure improvement over the next five years. But I want to be able to look at zip codes and census blocks to say certain neighborhoods if they're experiencing sorting outages for a consistent amount of time that they would then be penalized while there are some differing opinions from commissioners, Eric Screa and devote Lewis on how to hold energy accountable council member, Scott Walker says Wednesday was a positive step forward. I feel like they came and answered the questions that we wanted to ask. I mean, again, that's all we can do in Jefferson Parish, Alyssa, Curtis Wwl, Louisiana. The council passed a resolution today urging the Public Service Commission to hire an outside company to take a look at energy practices.
