you we're here today for the annual commen commencement program we are almost ready to begin our processional but before we do I would like to take this opportunity to solicit the cooperation of our audience during today's program we have worked very hard with our graduates to convey to them the dignity that a commencement program should have I think you will see the fruits of the labor in a minute we are soliciting the cooperation of our audience with today's program to keep unnecessary noise to a minimum throughout the ceremony we especially ask that there be no nose makers whistling or screaming when our students are presenting nose makers in the form of ear horns are strictly prohibited anyone using an air horn will be asked to leave the arena in addition please refrain from standing in the seats a professional photographer will photograph each graduate as he or she receives the diploma these pictures will be made available to you parents and Guardians your graduates will exit the building through through the Ling dock after picking up the diplomas once they exit there will be no re-entry into the building your graduate will re will meet you at the parking location as Board we will hear from high points illustrious choir good morning Highpoint high school graduates distinguished platform guests parents and staff my name is Quincy boy chief of staff at at Prince Georges county public schools bringing you remarks on behalf of superintendent house as We Gather here today to celebrate your high school graduation we are reminded of the journey that brought you to this momentous occasion you began high school during a time of uncertainty as the world pulled through a pandemic you adapted to Virtual learning navigating your education with resilience and determination you learned how to share your screen but most importantly you learned how to share your strength kindness and support for one another along the way there is no doubt that your achievement stands as a testament to your hard work but none of this would have been possible without the love and support from your teachers and staff and administrators your mom dads AAS theas Theos siblings and many others these are the people that provide unwavering support to you each and every day and it is that support that led this class to earn more than 2.6 million doll in scholarships you all have much to celebrate and I want to highlight a few of your classmates who have shown tenacity and perseverance in the face of unimaginable adversity Jennifer paa Amaya arrived from El Salvador speaking no English and is now advocating and translating for her peers Tanya AGA madano achieved academic Excellence while embracing the responsibilities of motherhood Cindy Cindy robas Mendes overcame significant challenges and was selected for the University of Maryland in of awards program which covers a full tuition fees and room in board adamak con consistently maintained exceptional grades despite early life challenges Araceli Hernandez and Brenda Escalante Cabrera made remarkable academic improvements Michael olande your valedictorian led the stem Club to to many victories and finally Nora Veera balanced motherhood and school while excelling in the firefighter Cadet program motivating her peers to overcome uh their own challenges these are the stories that exemplify strength the strength and resilience of the class of 20 24 proving that no obstacle is insurmountable now as each of you prepares to embark on the next chapter of your journey carry with you the lessons that you've learned the friendships that you've made and the memories that you've created you will always be a high point High School Eagle but the time has come to spread your wings and um as the vice president for several associations um it is my distinct honor to introduce the salutatorian of high points class of 2024 Miss Jennifer Gonzalez through through four years of distinct learning experiences Jennifer persevered through it at all she has taken a total of nine dual enrollment classes and six AP classes while being a part of several clubs like National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta she has shown continuous academic devotion which has helped her earn a cumulative GPA of 4.3 this fall she plans to pursue a degree in bioengineering at the University of Cincinnati ladies and Gentlemen please help me welcome your salutatorian Jennifer Gonzalez [Applause] good morning parents teachers and graduates to The Faculty your dedication to education has blazed our way and your constant encouragement has raised our hopes we appreciate your Insight counsel and faith in our abilities and to the parents the foundation of our success has been your Everlasting Love support and sacrifices we thank you I would like to share this quote by tahara Mafi someone picked up the Sun and pinned it to the sky again but every day it hangs a little lower than the day before it never sees how its abs and changes people how different we are in the dark how different we are in the dark to some of you this quotes may come off as a bit bit depressing but I really like mafi's quote mainly the last sentence how different we are in the dark this is such a joyous day however I cannot help but reflect on the dark days that led to this exact moment high school has been a roller coaster some of us had to put all nighters with caffeine in hand and pure determination we've done rigorous exams and assignments that made us question our sanity at times we had to figure out ways to make friendship work or learn to let go naturally we made it through the unavoidable drama that comes with being a teenager some of us didn't just go lose our social life or sleep or time we also lost our loved ones after a loss feelings of emptiness can be overwhelming it feels like like a piece of you has been removed leaving a space that is hard to fill it is reasonable that the rigers and responsibilities of academic life such as school may seem unimportant and pointless when one has experienced such intense anguish grades and achievements are no longer your concern because you're trying to take a moment to breathe and process but C because the world continues school work and extra activities don't stop I know this because I lost my cousin eler Gonzalez Diaz who was supposed to walk on this stage today I'd like to share a few of the noteworthy lessons I've learned with you today wherever you all may be in the future I hope you all remember these advices we will not live in the dark forever and these lessons can guide us towards the sun recovering from adversity takes time to complete it's about allowing ourselves to be in the blue accepting our emotions and looking for community and family support maybe we take solace in the fact that life still has experiences of beauty Unity hope despite the suffering as we make our way through this journey and always remember that our loved ones are still rooting for us to succeed wherever they may be so here's to us the graduating class of 2024 just like the sun in the sky we had our Peaks we had our highs and just like when the sun comes down we experience the lows we are left in the dark so maybe go off and conquer the world or end they long enough to gather some truly amazing tales about it even though we all have a long and challenging path ahead of us I am confident that we all have the courage and determination needed to achieve it let us face the world with bravery passion and a strong sense of self-belief valorian good morning my name is Stephanie agilon Ros Al and I am your class of 2024 class president I have the honor of introducing this year's valid dictorian Mr Michael olar some time ago when I saw Michael's name in print I thought oh they just spelled it wrong but then I learned that he has the spelling of his name is just as unique as he is Michael is kind he is determined and he is a loyal friend Michael will attend Grano College in Iowa and has been offered 75 ,000 in scholarships from that school alone in total he has been accepted to nine colleges and has been offered over 200,000 in scholarships Michael plans to double major in computer science and art and he hopes to come to One Day become an entrepreneur focusing on digital art and creating his own comic series ladies and Gentlemen please help me welcome your valedictorian Michael olar clator 24 we've made it we had our successes Lord knows we had our failures and at the end of it all we persisted when I was told to make a speech for this class today I'll be entirely honest I didn't have a clue on what I was going to say even now that we're putting high school behind us I know for sure that I still have zero idea how I feel it's not fair nor excitement or even relief it's just change but here's one other thing I know for sure right here right now all I see in this room is excellent when given the moment I want all of you graduating from high point today to look at yourselves truly look at yourselves be it a reflection on your phone's camera a mirror or some random car in the parking lot I need you to look at yourselves and see how much you've evolved from the child sitting behind a blank screen during freshman year in this class I see brilliant artists promising influencers and models I see Peak athletes in this class I bear witness to real life Geniuses even a guy who jumped over McDonald's counter to fix their frae machine all of this to say would have rown or not we've changed no evolved with each and every one of us having our own Excellence our own stories to show the world that's the truth for all of us graduating today no matter how small you think you are no matter how much doubt you may have in your head even if this may be coming from a stranger it does not make it any less true right here right now we are you are nothing short of excellent so I'll say it once again class of 2024 we've made it and here's two excellence in our future and we will now have remarks from our principal Dr Chone [Applause] good morning graduates faculty parent parents and guests it is an honor to stand before you on this great occasion this is even more significant since this is my first graduating class as highp Point High School principal first I want want to congratulate all graduates for making education a priority in their lives and thus be better prepared for next steps graduates your extraordinary efforts and unquestionable determination to succeed has become evident on this very day you have done it congratulations second I want to congratulate our parents and Guardians for supporting each of our graduates without our parents support many of us would not be here today parents we have gathered here today to celebrate this important milestone in your child's life there is no doubt that you are as proud as we are are our graduates and their families might have gone through some obstacles during the high school years including the pandemic but they have S them out and the high school diploma has become a reality it is proved that you do not quit easily but instead you persevere and follow your dreams through graduates listen from this day forward you are a highp point Ambassador wherever you go whatever dreams you're pursuing as a Highpoint Ambassador you not only are a testimony of the resources in great faculty at high point but will inspire future generations to be the best you can regardless of your background or zip codes also as a
