Tyreek Hill meets with the media | Miami Dolphins

e e e hang it out man we rolling y all right guys how y'all doing man I just before we get started man I just want to say um this is a very um important day in history so um just want to say to the falling soldiers to everybody who was a part of that that that uh 9911 um my prayers are with you and your family always to the police officers to the firefighters across the world um we thank you um and yeah man it's really it so I um I I asked Mike McDaniel at the owner meetings whether he had talked to you about some of your off field incidents he said yes Tyreek has been very transparent we've had clear communication right and I asked him today about that and he said Tyreek has grown in a lot of ways since he's been here in what ways do you think that you've grown since you've been here I tell you what man I was talking to my mom and my wife last night I told her man what I went through the other day this happened at the right time in my life cuz the way I've matured the way I've been handling my myself you know um with my kids stepping up as a father um just all of that man um it so the older I've been getting man The more I've been realizing like how important it is for me to just you know be a Pros Pro you know obviously when you first come into the league like you just want to have fun do whatever you want to do man but like I've done all that like I I now like see how important it is to like be a father be a husband you know be a son and just be that family man that my grandparents raised me to be man so um that's the maturity he's talking about so when my teammates see me now like I'm with my wife I'm with my kids I'm enjoying life man I'm I'm slowing my life down like I'm not I'm not doing the crazy things that I used to do you know when I was first came into the league like I'm I'm I'm handling myself you know with with a lot of dignity now so and and a lot of respect so and I'm representing my last name well so and a followup to that do you think you did anything wrong in this situation do you think that your attitude could have been different to the police do you think you could have kept your window down what have you thought about that yeah I have I have man um every like my whole life is all about accountability like how can I get better you know um so right now um I have family members who are cops we we've had conversations um yes I I will say I could have been better you know I could have let down my window you know in that instant but um the thing about me is man I don't I I don't want attention I don't I don't want to be like cameras out phones on you you know in that moment but um at the end of the day um you know I'm I'm human I gota I got to follow rules I gotta you know um do what you know um every everyone else would do you know so now does that give them the right to literally beat the dog out of me absolutely not but at the end of the day um I wish I could go back and you know do things a bit differently tyq when I spoke with uh coach McDaniel he said that when he first saw the video he wasn't shocked by it in fact it saddened him when you first saw the video what were the emotions that came over you uh I'm unfazed man I'm unfazed I'm one of those guys I'm unfazed by man cuz um I'm not the only one that that goes through that man you feel me like and where I'm from you know you typically see that you know a lot and you don't hear about it you know because not everybody has the same resources as Tyreek Hill not everybody has the name Tyreek Hill or um not able to call a Drew Brooks or Drew Rosen house or something like that man so I'm re I'm really like unfazed to it you feel me you know so that's why I was able to go out and play the way I did cuz I'm numb to it you know it's kind of it's kind of expected so just to follow up you said that you would have handled yourself a little bit differently for for other people out there seeing that video is there a message that you may have for them about how to handle themselves in a similar situation um I don't have a message for him yet but I'm sure I will so ask me that question again next week sometime so I'm pretty sure I will cuz right now I'm in the process of you know putting putting together a good plan um so that way I can work with those guys cuz I think it's good man I think we should lean on each other you know like we have influence on the community and I don't think that um we should you know use this as a moment to you know separate you know um people or divide people or you know make it a battle or anything like that man cuz I still love I still love cops you know I want to be a cop I've been stand on the table for the cops man but um at the end of the day um right now what I'm focused on is my job and that's to play football you know and that's all that I can be the best baller football player I can be man so how are you yourself um handling the situation obviously it's a lot of trauma so are you okay yeah I'm good man like I said I'm I'm really un phased to it all man like um I've been praying a lot you know with my wife um having conversations with my mom a lot talking to my kids a lot you know cuz at the end of the day like those are the most important people people in my life those are the people that you know that are in my circle like and I could care less about um whatever somebody else has to say about me or the situation or whatever goes on you know so um I think the biggest thing for me is just you know um making sure um that I'm all right and my family has been doing a great job with that you know cuz they ask me literally every 5 Seconds are you all right are you all right are you all right I'm like I'm good I'm good like I went to the grocery store last night my wife called me literally like 10 times like it's crazy so I'm good obviously you used to living your life in a spotlight though but right having a vulnerable moment like that when we saw the body C was going out you say you're good but what was that experience like to have again that vulnerable broadcast to the world um I was actually watching Beetle Juice at the at the time I was in the movie theater when it released JW Brooks called me he was like Hey you know they released the body cam I'm like what I'm watching Beatle you I gotta leave it's like yeah go outside real quick so went outside you know um watched it and you know for me I feel like I handled myself well and in that situation but obviously like I said I can be better um but it's it's shell shocking man is is it's really it's really crazy to know that you know um you have officers in this world that would literally do that with body cams on you know it's sad it's really sad um which brings up another conversation and and leads into what would they do if they didn't have body cams which is even crazier so it's a lot to unpack man it's a lot to unpack um it's a a lot we can learn like I think in football how we get better from things is we wash the tape and we get better from it you know and this instance we should do the same you know like a lot of people want to critique a lot of people want to criticize a lot of people want to do this but um I think this can be a learning tool for everybody everybody you know um civilians officers around the world like how to do conduct whenever they pull people over like we all can learn man you know we in this thing together we like we live in this thing like we on Earth together so only way we we get better is you know a we hold ourselves accountable and we get better from it that's how I get better in football you know so has it been tough this week to kind of separate the incident and what you have ahead of you on Thursday night uh not for real cuz like I said I'm not going to mix the two I'm not going to mix mix the two I'm not going to take a knee I'm not going to you know ask to defund the police I'm not going to protest I'm not going to do any of that when it come to being inside of this this football you know because um this is this is my therapy like football is my therapy this is how I get away from like a lot of stuff like this is how I you know separate myself from past traumas in my life man so um a there I'm not gonna miss it too re just in the video you said that you had knee surgery Micha you said you had a minor operation just can what did you have done and and when did it happen so um I did have a minor um procedure done in Antigua um just some some stem cells injected into my body that's it you know so a lot of people don't know that cuz I just be on the low with it but yeah Tyreek to me in in situations like this and I know you you said that you want to see some change and some good come out of this um and I know you just said that you could have handled yourself differently uh to me you need to see some uh apologies and compromise from both sides do you think we will eventually see that or do you think this is going to be kind of a politically divisive thing for the next few weeks or months what do you think um when you say divisive when you say apology who do you mean from who both sides I I I mean I think both sides need to kind of say you know I I I could have handled myself better I know you just said that well they already tried but I we declined you know like it's up to everybody else judgment to you know have their own opinion about you know how they feel about the video you know um are you optimistic that we will hear that from the other side do you think that that kind of change are we moving in that direction on this matter do you think I don't know man um it's tough to say you know cuz it's it's so hard man like you you never know like you never know in situations like this but my whole goal and my whole thing around this whole thing is to not go backwards like I don't want us to go backwards like I want us to be able to move forward in this moment you know um guys I had so many people like oh let's rally I'm like n like chill let's relax like let's put our minds together and let's think let's think of better ways that we can you know get better like let's not do that bro like we smarter than that how would you describe some of the physical actions that occurred against you some of them might not be clear on camera some not even have been on camera what are some things that you can tell us happened I don't know it was crazy bro I thought I was in a movie that's why I'm like that's why I really couldn't get turn up for real I'm like damn is it really happening but man I don't I don't know bro like choked pinched kicked all that man but you know what like I said man what I what I said Sunday um I'm just glad to be here so I can just tell this story with y'all man cuz this is like truly like shocking to me um it's embarrassing because I got kids and when I FaceTime my kids they like Dad are you all right are you all right and I'm like your dad all right man like but it's good though like my kids get to see me in a different light you know what I'm saying like I get to like you know come up with my own ideas and own plan to help you know change The Narrative of um who we are or who I am anyways so I think it's good my kids get to see see me in a different light instead of playing football they get to see me as like a hero in this aspect now so um so whenn whenn man you your lawyer has come out and said that he's looking for the dismissal of the officer do you what does that mean gone so you want the officer to be gone gone gone gone he got to go man cuz in that instant right there like not only did he do treat me bad you know what I'm saying he also treated my teammates with you know disrespect you know he had some crazy words towards them and they ain't even do nothing like what did they do to you they just walking on the sidewalk so I don't know bro like he he he got to go man like he it not too many times that cheah say people got to go but you I what they say I'm wilding out [Music] gone no all right thank you you knew I going to say something crazy
