Jazz Chisholm Jr.’s walk-off hit propels Yankees to series win over Royals

welcome to New York's number two sports show the Yankees are able to pull out the series win against the Kansas City Royals and they get it done on a walk-off hit by Jaz Chisum Jr in the rubber match so back to that and yet again another Series where the Yankees win the first game they lose the second but this time they're able to win the series it wasn't pretty but the Yankees continuing success against some of these AL Central teams uh and you know they go and two against Kansas City and look that could be a playoff preview uh certainly and the Orioles as far as the AL East is concerned they continue to not play good baseball they lose two of three to the Red Sox who is the Yankees next opponent that series was in Fenway between Baltimore and Boston this next one between the Red Sox and the Yankees is at Yankee Stadium but yeah the Yankees find themselves technically in first place in the American League at 84 and 62 tied with the Cleveland Guardians but the Yankees have the tiebreaker over Cleveland so in the case that those two teams are tied the Yankees win that tiebreaker but Baltimore is the more important team and as far as that is concerned the Yankees are a game and a half ahead of the Baltimore orals and two on the loss side so yeah I mean obviously it's going to come down to that three-game Set uh between the oral and the Yankees for the division in all likelihood I I think that it's going to stay close enough where um look maybe the winner of that series like it could simply come down to that but for the Yankees a lot of interesting things transpired at the beginning of the series transaction wise so let's just kind of start off with that because when we left last episode for the Chicago Cubs recap and please like And subscribe would be greatly appreciated I had said that Duke Ellis was sent down and that the likely person to take his spot was John birdie and that was in fact the case he was activated John Bird's role uh I don't think we're going to see him play a whole lot but he does add versatility and he really is your pinch Runner and so that is when he made uh his first appearance was as a pinched runner in game three he actually scored the game-winning run on the Chism hit so a little Marlins connection between jazz and John birdie uh two players that have been in the Miami Marlins for a good amount of time in recent seasons but the other thing that happened makes a lot of sense but we didn't know when it was going to happen so first off DJ lameu is placed on the I think it was right hip uh was technically let's see I think it was a right hip impingement is what it went down as uh but I just want to confirm that real quick um yes this is about as Phantom iow as you'll ever see it really is now I agree with the fact that DJ lameu should not be on this roster but like yeah that is pretty bogus sure is it like a real thing like is he having hip issues probably but it's something that like given if the state of the roster wasn't where it wasn't DJ wasn't playing the way he he was this wouldn't be happening but I digress Jason Dominguez the Martian is called up so it makes things very interesting now and Dominguez started game one and two was on the bench in game three I think that he his role right now he will mainly start but it is somewhat at least in the regular season and and now at this point you know two and a half weeks through the rest of the regular season the way I kind of see it is it's going to be somewhat of a rotation where the person that's going to be out of the starting lineup is either going to be Verdugo Stanton or Dominguez now keep this in mind come play off time assuming that everyone's healthy ston will be playing every day and so it'll kind of be a situation where it'll either be dingz or Verdugo with i as I speak right now I would say that Dominguez has the upper hand but the the weird thing is this this is why it's an imperfect sort of platoon if it even is one is that Dominguez is better against righties you had a situation where Verdugo ends up starting against a lefty in game three it's just a little bit odd and certainly and far from ideal so I don't have the answers as far as what is going to happen but I don't think that Verdugo is necessarily going to be jettisoned as far as like being just on the bench I do think everything being equal if there was a starting lineup to be had for game one of the playoffs I do believe that Dominguez would be in over Verdugo I feel pretty strongly about that but how the two of them play will like be a factor and so to take it a step further when I think about the roster from The Hitter standpoint um knowing that you're going to have four bench hitters in the postseason again assuming everyone's healthy I think the person that really doesn't have a role if you're not going to use him for defensive purposes is Trent Grisham uh because really he he his role now is is kind of non-existent right when you think about it he was the one that when Stanton would sit they would move judge to DH and grishman center field now think about it when and this happened in game one when Stanton's out right and they move judge to DH that allows them to have Verdugo and Dominguez so Trent Grisham uh that would be my odds on favorite for someone who uh really is is generally in danger of just not playing much at all and then really being the one that would be bumped out so I think your bench would be Trevino Oswaldo Cabrera John berdie and Verdugo if Dominguez is starting so I think that's what it's looking like right now it really does make the L up look a lot better that all said they're a bit feas or famine I mean game one they're able to kind of explode really the big blow is Austin Wells huge three run Homer and and you just got to love what you see from Wells again he really is in that Al Rookie of the Year conversation which is impressive only when you consider the fact that the first couple of months just the numbers were were bad like not the way he was playing but but just the results weren't there for him and he's really really turned it around now for the last few months um but yeah the Yankees end up scoring 10 runs but they get totally shut down by Seth Lugo in game two they only get three hits and then in game three against Cole Reagan again like the Kansas City they throw good starting pitching at you like no doubt about that but the Yankees it wasn't pretty really in game three either so this offense you know for different reasons we'll kind of touch on that a little bit like it has been a bit of a struggle for them to get runs and you hope that they're able to solve that problem uh come playoff time but the other I guess interesting thing I guess when it comes to pitching uh real quick when you look at I guess let's quickly just discuss the starters and it's something that I'll get into a little bit more I guess when we go through each game but like unequivocally at this point Marcus strowman really is your number six so the way I kind of see it they're probably going to move it from six to five now right now they're going with the six-man rotation but I think that they're going to go to Five eventually strowman might survive that maybe uh but certainly once it goes from five to four AKA once we get to the playoffs when we get to really three or four there's no way that strowman's gonna be a part of that I still do think that he that he'll be on the playoff roster regardless only because what even though every spot on the roster is precious when you kind of look at it I I think that those last spot the last spot or two with the pitchers you're not at this point right at this point because I don't know maybe somehow like a luchino like someone that isn't here now like kind of makes this big impact but we haven't seen that yet strowman I think makes the roster but hey like if you were to make your predictions and projections and have him out like I certainly would not blame you at all because it's somewhat like a Trent Grisham situation where it's like what's really the point other than just being a log man like he's a and like almost not making him not making him upset like as he's a veteran so those are my thoughts as far as strowman and you could do a lot worse for number six like I want to say that but to me it's it's almost like Beyond obvious that that is the case then my thoughts go to um it'll be interesting right moving forward with Cortez he's gonna be starting game one so I guess I'm doing a little bit of a sneak preview on the preview for the Red Sox uh series is that nestor's starting game one so but I just think that they kind of showed their hand the fact that Nester came out of the pen in that game I don't think that bodess well for him so I think like right now that top three is Cole and this is not even me agreeing with it I just think this is what it kind of feels like Cole rodon and heel and clarkman is kind of that wild card to me um because I think he deserves to be in that mix so does that make him number four I don't know and also depends on like how many starters are you going to end up having in you know that first round if it is a best of five hey look the Yankees might be in the Wild Card Series so it's a little bit too soon to say but those are my thoughts on the rotation and then as far as the bullpen goes there are really right now three very relied upon pieces in the pen and it's Luke Weaver Tommy Canley and Jay cousins they tried to shoehorn clay holes and I must admit that I do think that there is a lane for him somewhere like I think that like to be honest like he deserves to make the postseason roster as much as I was very anti holes to be a closer but still though him in a one-run lead in the seventh that's too much that's just too much so I'm talking more like when you're trailing or if it's maybe even earlier than the seventh I guess that is kind of as I'm talking this out it is kind of problematic the fact that like you don't feel good about him and technically Klay Holmes blows his 12th save so he is one away now I'm jumping ahead to game three he blows a save technically in the seventh inning so one blown safe away from tying that record set by Dave regretti he might he might do it honestly if they're gonna continue to use him like that because to me while it ended up working out and they won the game I don't know why you just didn't whatever order you wanted to going right because to me it's still is a committee I think a lot of people are considering Luke Weaver as like the definite closer that isn't the case and that's proven out by game one and and I agree with the committee approach I like all three of them and I'm fine with any of them getting that ninth inning opportunity but I think that um I don't understand why in game three they didn't just find a way to piece nine outs from those three relievers that I mentioned and not gone clay Holmes that was very avoidable like those other relievers were fresh and ready so a little bit odd it ends up not being a huge deal because they won but and in some ways it it kind of ends up working out because you're able to kind of get Luke Weaver pitching the 11th inning so in some ways like but but I'm almost but it's contradictory because if clay holes never pitched that seventh inning like you might have just been done with it nine if you had gone with those other three anyway let's uh begin talking Royals Yankees and for the Royals this to me kind of signals the end of their pursuit of the Cleveland Guardians it's not dead but the series ends with the Kansas City Royals let's see um five back on the loss of the Guardian so look it's not completely over but I I don't think that their chances are are great and so good chance that Kansas City and ends up being F the fifth or sixth spot but also hey to be fair they are three games back at Baltimore so look it it is still all kind of close everywhere you look and Kansas City Vinnie Pas quintino not being that lineup that's a pretty big loss that's a big left-handed bat that they don't have they do feel a bit right-hand heavy but man like Salvador Perez he still got it like wow what a series on both sides I mean even at first base he was making plays sou Perez absolutely destroyed the Yankees uh Bobby Wht and you see just the talent I mean Bobby Whit Jr who probably didn't really have a crazy offensive series what you know compared to what he's capable of but wow just look he is legitimately in that mvp like you know because of Aaron judge's recent struggles and you know what honestly there was a lot of good in this series there really was like I think to be fair with judge but Bobby W Jr like you can't dismiss the idea that that he is in that race um it is a Twan race I would say at this point and just very impressed by him on a Kansas City team that really you know that it's not a very impressive lineup it really isn't top to bottom there's a lot of holes there and they're able to kind of piece it together with really good P that starting pitching I think is really what's key and look when you have that good starting pitching that can go a long way in the playoffs so um you know in having discussed the transactions let's now discuss the hitters going through the lineup and just overall thoughts so glabber Torres again I continue to like what I see from glaber in the leadoff spot really do um just good quality at bats and drawing walks here and there getting hits not hitting for power he really isn't it's a lot of it's mostly singles but I like I really do like it and I think that he is the one that belongs at the top right now and you know now he's batting average like right around 2 50 it's getting better he's kind of inching closer towards the 700 Ops this is all good stuff Gaber got up to a horrific horrific start really beyond the first half of the season but really you talk ever since early August maybe even before that honestly the offense has been there Juan sto um stto uh not a terrible series because you got to remember game two basically no one does anything except glaber and to a lesser extent and Austin Wells so stto he actually he has a pretty good series reaches base like four times in game one and then game three really big home run after he fouled the ball off his foot same at bat Lefty Lefty against Cole Reagan hits a really big two run Homer Aaron judge uh good series from him and I know that he's gone 15 games with no home runs so we really man uh I'll say I I I'm part of the Jinx I really am because I thought after that Colo series he was gonna do it I thought he was GNA break his record like nope what we're seeing is is somewhat of the version that we saw in April um not quite as bad but something similar to it so look Aaron judge he he can be streaky no doubt about it and I I remember back to 2017 his rookie year and this was a little bit different this was actually more concerning as it was happening he had such an amazing season but specific spefically August I think was the month maybe it went into September a little bit judge was terrible like really really bad and I was thinking like like it was kind of it was postor run derby it was like what's going on here has he been figured out obviously we've learned like he wasn't figured out but to the what what I'm seeing over the course course of care he can have his streaks and he's entitled to them but judge I would say this series step in the right direction even though you know again the Home Run drought exists but hey if he going to struggle now and turn it up in October I'll take that all day long Austin Wells yeah the the big blow in this game game one it's a three- run Homer um really big pinch sack fly against a lefty in game three he is one of those guys in a big moment you want him up there you want him up there more than almost every guy in that lineup in a big situation uh jez Chisum Jr really hadn't done a whole lot until he got the big walk-off hit uh and it was an infield single uh really just a nice diving stop by Bobby Wood Jr but yeah like so hey Jazz is someone too that there there's a bit of a confidence there when it when the you know when the lights are bright Jazz seems to want to be a part of it uh and also some pretty good defensive plays after he did make a throwing error actually at the start of game one after that was pretty crisp um Jason Dominguez not a whole lot to speak of honestly uh started a couple of games once in Center once in left and that's another thought is I wish that it wouldn't be judge in Center I I would prefer it to be Dominguez to be honest with you and and I I must admit that I haven't seen Dominguez all that much in center but like I believe that has to be the better option but anyway dingz not a lot to speak of had a nice hit the other way in game one and had a nice steal but yeah like pretty quiet other than that again only started the two games Anthony Rizzo not a whole lot either game three wasn't bad he did have a hit look Rizzo's numbers are what they are it was a really rough go for a long time Rizzo's been fine but I must admit with his wallo Cabrera being your backup first baseman I gotta say like I I would probably prefer as Waldo again it's kind of somewhat of a pointless conversation because obviously they are going to trust Rizzo's defense way more than as Waldos at first I I get that for obvious reasons but again just for me Cabrera would be the one that I'd probably prefer offensively but Rizzo doing enough not going to complain too much with him uh as W though starts at shortstop the first game so vby with a rare night off he would eventually pinch run and then uh you know Caba would come in to play first base in game three he was a pinch Runner so as wello showing that versatility continued like what I see from him at the plate really really do even though he's not playing much uh I like him and then Alex fugo it's funny he gets off the schneide the ironic thing is he homers in game one even though um Dominguez that day is promoted and that really mostly affects Verdugo but hey like you can't make it up competition competition that's huge and there's not enough of that going on it's like hey think about like even glaber Torres like when he got like when he got benched and how he responded to that you got to give him a kick in the ass every now and then and I think that works and you know because you can get easily complacent but now that Verdugo knows hey like there's nowhere to run at this point like I have two to absolutely produce otherwise literally the player is on the team that will replace him so I'm not saying I have a lot of confidence in Verdugo but I will give him credit uh that he has been a lot better than he was you know really for the better of three months where he was doing nothing at all um and then John Carlos Stanton he's been struggling Jean Carlo Stanton it's been a definite struggle for him as of late um and look speaking of someone who's very streaky but yeah like I think he's he's it's been a few rough series for him but at the same time I don't think he doesn't look completely lost and that's the good thing even though he's probably won for his last like mid you know 25 26 something like that the ATB back quality isn't horrific so anyway let's discuss these games Carlos Rodan pretty good outing in game one really was failed by the defense a really poor defensive showing and one of them doesn't even show up there was a Mis well I don't know what you want to call it a popup to glaber SoDo that drops really bad that goes down as a hit so rodon six Innings six hits four runs three earn one walk nine strikeouts that's what I like the most two homers rodon gives up a lot of solo homers and at least they're of the solo variety but for rodon this is another good outing for him uh again I really like that one walk nine strikeouts um do I look I'll continue to say it do I really trust him all that much in the postseason I I don't and that's just me and maybe it is you know what to give it a comparison maybe it'll be like an AJ Bernett sort of thing I actually do think that's kind of a good comparable or like cc is kind of Cole in this little example uh where and what I mean by that is rodon it might be a little bit of the extremes where he might be able to provide you that really clutch start but also at the same time kind of maybe have just a blowup situation as well where he just kind of gets shellacked I could kind of see that so but he gives you a good outing for Kansas City Brady singer um decent not great five innings five hits three runs three walks three strikeouts yeah nothing nothing to write home about for him but Kansas City does Take the Lead like I said some really poor defense from the Yankees this was a sloppy game from them really really was so fam reaches on an by Chism to Star and would I have like Rizzo to scoop it yeah sure but it's not on it's not on him um Jazz you know with the throwing error and then what happens is Tommy fam still second and a bad throw by Austin Wells uh goes to the Outfield and fam goes to Third and then Salvador Perez who just was on fire in the series gets an RBI sing to make it one up in Kansas City um let's then jump to the top of the Third third which is where Salvador Perez homers off of rodon his 26th Homer of the Season makes it two nothing but then the Yankees got going in the fourth so to this point pretty quiet but Dominguez is the one that gets it going opposite field single uh then after a gr out which moves him over to Second as wall cabera Full Count he walks and on that walk Dominguez Ste third Perez probably would have been better served just eating it he tries to get him out and the ball goes into the Outfield and so Dominguez scores so that was the biggest impact that was made by him and he gets it going and it kind of turn things around and then what do you know next batter Alex Verdugo homers two- run shot for him is 12th of the year and know what's a little bit frustrating is like I don't mind when you admire a home run but like Alex like you've been terrible for a while you're not in home runs like you you could probably just put the bat down and go again like it is a little bit bothers but 3-2 Yanks uh and then Where Do We Go From Here top of the fifth this is where it's it's tough where s Perez it ends up being an RBI single where Bobby Wht scores from first it's a popup that Juan Soto really should have charged in and taken care of it but I understand he was playing a little bit further back but glaver who's supposed to be the popup King according to Aaron Boon he he's not able to get that one and again blame goes both ways but that was ugly and that makes it 33 uh top of the six another Homer for the Royals um you know only their second I make it seem like it's a lot but hunter Renfro uh 13th Homer of the year it's offro Don and it makes it 43 Kansas City Royals um then let's jump to the seventh Jake cousins comes on and a pretty impressive inning for him a couple of strikeouts for Jake cousins who continues th really pitch well and then the seven inning is where the Yankees are able to break things open James MacArthur the righty comes on glaver with an infield single stto walk then RBI single for judge really big hit for judge let's like not lose sight of that big game time hit to make it 44 then Austin Wells with a mammoth Mammoth just sweet home run to R center field his 13th home run of the Season gives the Ys a 74 lead and you know that was pretty electric so it's three1 lead for the Ys there and then in the eighth interestingly Luke Weaver comes on so that was a little bit of a surprise only because it kind of seemed like maybe they were going to the Weaver ninth inning route they're not and I kind of agree with it let it be more of a committee at least for now Weaver little bit of a sketchy eighth inning but he's able to escape out with a couple of strikeouts as well keeps it at 74 and the Yankees tack on off of Chris Stratton gra Ru double is wallo Cabrera opposite field Verdugo single GLA borz RBI single makes it 84 you get a sto walk and then at that point vult pinch runs for glaber and here's the interesting thing there showing that in a roundabout way that they don't mind glaber like that in some ways they would prefer glaber to not be out their defensively they won't admit that to you they won't and they're not going to make it obvious but this is another instance now where glaber has been pinched run for in a spot where like you know you didn't have to do it anyway Aaron judge grounds into a double play which scores a run gives Yankees a 94 lead and then Austin Wells added again with an RBI double gives Yankees a 10-4 lead so this was originally going to be Tommy kley pitched in the ninth until the Yankees broke it open so just keep that in mind so Ian Hamilton he makes his first appearance in a long time and actually looked pretty good I think Hamilton that'll be interesting to see like where he's at because I think when you consider some of like those top righties Hamilton if he pitches well with the struggles of Mark lder Jr which we'll talk about in game two and then clay just you don't really exactly know what's up there like Hilton could kind of Ascend but right now he is you know more toward towards the bottom naturally considering he's been out for a while but look good there Yankees win 104 and but then game two comes around and what's happened a lot Yankees have won these opening games of the series a lot lately and there's probably a streak to to back that up but game two except for the Cub Series has been one that they've lost which has been leading to a lot of rubber games and in this one Stanton back in the lineup Verdugo out Dominguez goes from Center to left so um Marcus strowman was the pitcher and it's not as if this was kind of look this is kind of like your classic strowman out it the difference is he got no run support So strowman loses he drops his record to 10 and eight five and a third seven hits three runs two walks four strike ass it's just you know it's for the fact that the rest of the rotation they have more swinging Miss ability and I just think based on the results strowman like he is an odd man out when all said and done uh and I don't mean that it's like look strowman like he hasn't been like horrendous just hasn't been that great so anyway Seth Lugo what a performance and what an amazing season for him you know a longtime met reliever that is really now one of the best starters in the league uh seven Innings three hits no runs no walks and 10 strikeouts 16 and eight you know if not for Tariq scoble Emanuel class I mean Seth Lugo he's he will be got to think what no worse than top five in that sa young voting in the American League um so anyway this one will be this game too will be a little bit quicker to go through third inning is where Kansas City gets going and I guess I must mention that Gaber Torres singles in the first that was kind of one of only three hits again two by glaber one by Wells all singles they were really shut down by Lugo and um and the two relievers that came in after him which were uh ubit and shriber Lefty and righty so it was Bobby Whit Jr who gets an RBI single in that third and you know one thing I'll say that bothers me and really more pertains to South Perez because sth Perez ends up getting an RBI single he was thrown out at second nice play actually by Dominguez to throw him out there not enough there were situations and I guess here isn't a great examp um here isn't a great example because he was at first but there were certain spots where you could have pitched carefully to it and more so Perez total drop off and what was behind sou Perez and they really continued you know in case I don't mention it later on in this episode like yeah just too many times and the Yankees have just been victim of that of not where they I don't I wouldn't call it stubbornness they think that they're doing the right thing it's not like to prove a point but it's just kind of frustrating and so you don't want those top guys to burn if you can avoid it and there were avoidable situations so anyway you get those two runs there makes it two nothing Royals lug Go's just cruising here I guess might have been the situation fifth inning runner on second and two out why you pitching the Salvador Perez with MJ Melendez on Deck I understand the fact that Perez is a righty Melendez is a lefty I get that part of it maybe that's what it is but Perez gets an RBI single that just can't happen so it makes it three nothing Mar ler Jr comes on in the sixth finishes out the sixth um but then in the seventh he allows a homer to Tommy fam let me see what the stat is actually I I've brought it up here before let me just pull this up about Mark lider Jr with the Yankees 77 batters faced five home runs 23 hits allowed with the Cubs basically around double that 15 two batters face this season two homers and 27 at hits that's crazy he's allowed three more homers and basically half the bats so Mark lder Jr indefinite risk of not even making the postseason roster I mean how how how could he be he's nowhere near a lock in fact he's about as on the bubble as you could ever imagine so that's been a real disappointment um and look blame goes to Cashman for sure even though I saw value when you looked at the numbers and you know from the times that I saw him with the Cubs it is a surprise how bad he's been so anyway Tommy fan homers makes it 4 nothing and then in the eighth they bring on uh Tim MAA and that ends up in a spot where rro single they pinch run him Blanco Stills second steals third and the Mikael Garcia with the sack fly so not the greatest of innings for for Tim MAA makes it five nothing Royals and then um yeah really not much to speak of there Mesa ends up pitching two innings so yeah now we go to the rubber match game three and this was a pretty I mean this was a good game it goes to Extra Innings we know the Yankees aren't great in extras I think this win gets them to five and eight in Extra Innings um but they're able to play enough decent small ball and F and fundamentally sound to pick up this win and Louis pretty good outing five innings five hits one run just a m a home run to Massie two walks and five strikeouts so like if he's going to give you five innings one run you're GNA take that every single time as we know he throws a lot of pitches and yeah like those five innings are too valuable to be like oh yeah let's just move into the pen this is a starter this is a starter the only concern is like if he loses the Zone we we've seen how that can go that could be a bit of a disaster but heel it's just to the stuff is too um enticing and again like wasn't one of his better outings but that's kind of just that's the point he still is able to give you five innings of just one run ball for Kansas City Cole Reagan uh pitched really well makes one mistake to Juan sto that's kind of the difference six Innings three hits two runs three walks seven strikeout thought he looked really good uh for Kansas City in this one Dominguez is the one who is out Verdugo back in and yeah so um no score let's just jump all the way to the fourth and that is where Michael Massie homers off of Lis heel to make it one nothing Kansas City so yeah not a whole lot to speak of to that point uh offensively I'd say I mean he'll get got out of a jam in the first inning basis a one out spot but the Yankees weren't doing much against Reagan until um let's see in till the the six so in the top of the six Tim Hill comes on one two3 inning for Tim Hill oh no sorry not a one two3 inning there was a single loud but a scel sing he continues to do well to me he's basically a near lock to make this roster in the postseason I don't know like like I've said I don't know if he's gonna face like those big time lefties and like the 730 thing I don't know if that's gonna play itself out but hey like he's gonna be in some pretty high leverage spots even if it's on like the periphery so yeah Hill he doesn't strike you out but he gets you out and now on the bottom of the six is where a one- out walk by Gaber sets it up and we've seen stuff like that Juan stto who really has not produced a whole lot um right there was a time when he was hitting a lot of home runs but now you know even that kind of has stopped a bit he ends up fouling one off of his foot and he was in pain like he was in real pain to the point where I think he'll play to start the Red Sox series but crazier things have happened like they may find that he might not be able to he is able to stay in that at bat and Homer off of a really tough Lefty and Reagan 39th home R of the Year 99 and um and he reaches the 100 RBI Mark as well so just got to give him that 40 home run Point like to think he'll hit one more home run um but yeah Soto big Homer gives Yankees a 2-1 lead and then Klay Holmes comes on in the seventh excuse me and he was warming up when they were down by one but they kept but they still stuck with that and knowing that you had like I said cousins Weaver and kley all available it was kind of avoidable in a one run with a one- run lead which is really in my mind the highest leverage spot you can be in even more so than it's h i mean look we're talking semantics but like you're talking a one run lead and what happens isbel single fam single with line out moves isbel over to than S Perez sack fly it's just it was so easy like I mean sure maybe the isbo one was a little bit unlucky but the fan one was was a smash the wit out was a smash and then South Perez he couldn't strike him out which he needed to there he is able to finish the inning but again that goes down as holes 12th blown save of the Season it is 2-2 at this point and in the yeah let's discuss bottom the seventh first and second one out they pinched r as Waldo for r omanu which again I kind of found that interesting too like not that it meant anything but like as Waldo wasn't like even the lead runner at that point it it to me it just goes to show like they they do want to get as Waldo in there um yeah I I can't really uh verbalize it like what it means but I just again as Waldo isn't like a total Speedster and he wasn't the lead Runner they didn't have to do it but I certainly don't mind it is my point so first and second one out Jose Trin you know and you could make the argument that I know that there was a lefty on the mound at this point but you could certainly make the argument that Austin Wells could have pin they don't do it they do it later on luckily but trino hits a a chopper where they get him out at first now at first it was ruled safe but it turned out that he was out of first and sth Perez the first baseman makes a great throw home and they get vulpi out of home the problem was this vpy hesitated too much going from second to third he needed to just run not even stop and would have scored so vuli that hesitation cost him and it ends up being a wacky double play for the Royals that was not great Tommy kley comes on in the eighth one two three kley has just been very very understated at this point really really solid for Tommy kanley for quite a while and I just feel like like it's not really talked about too much um Where Do We Go From Here top of the ninth Jake cousins he is able to give you a Scrolls ninth inning now let's go to the top of the 10th cousins stays on Strikes Out Bobby wi mind you Blanco is pinched running at second he steals third and then he scores a wild pitch and here's what bothers me a little bit is guess who's up South Perez what you could have done and I understand that in that part of the game I say it a lot you only want to allow at most one run if you're the home team so I understand the the feeling okay we don't wna put another runner on I do get that but this is kind of a unique situation and so by needing to kind of and they ended up walking Perez anyway that's the point they're pitching ROM but it him because on a wild pitch after a steal the Royals Take the Lead Luke Weaver comes on and Weaver gets the job done couple of outs there which was important Yankees are down one going to the bottom of the 10th Chris bich the Lefty is on as Waldo Caba as a lefty as a lefty he is as Waldo is such a wild card as far as you know lately it seems like he's betting a lot Lefty but he bunts it really was not a good bunt but it did it did get the job done he popped it up bit wasn't able to catch it and so vulpi is able to Scamper over to third they get his Waldo out at first now Austin Wells against the Lefty pinch it'ss for trino it's a great sign to where Austin Wells is at and look he's not very good against lefties that's just the facts but they trusted him and I think what they felt and they were right is who has a better chance of getting that sack fly and it was Austin Wells he hits it to just deepen up left deep enough left field where they are able to get vulpi in from third so it worked out the fast that buy was the base runner was pretty fortunate and so that makes it 33 top of 11th Weaver stays on and gets it done with a couple of strikeouts he was fired up I Weaver really he is for for my mind like one of my favorite players on the team really really is I like I like the cut of his jib if you will he's really um just a likable guy a little bit quirky honestly but like he gets pretty fired up when he ends those Innings and so score remains three3 we go to the bottom of the 11th John birdie pinch runs for glaber and I like that as well I mean just the fact that you have the that ability to do that um birdie with with really good speed he is your pinch Runner these days juano is able uh against the Lefty to to get birdie over to third that was pretty big like that was actually huge they intentionally walked judge no surprise he Advanced to second on defensive indifference and Jaz Jr gets his first career walk-off it is a walk-off RBI single a great diving stop by Bobby WT Jr he gets up but nothing he can do birdie gets the winning run euphoric is Yankee Stadium and yeah they win the series two of three and too many times lately they've lost like this type of series two out of three that is big to do it against Kansas City as well and so now the Yankees are 84 and 62 and now they will have a four game set at home against the Red Sox a Red Sox team coming off of a series win against the Orioles and right now Boston is I believe four spot four games out of a playoff spot so this is really Mak a break time for Boston and so if you're the Yankees it really would be nice to really knock them out of there at this point um a team in the resed that that has given the Yankees problems for a really really long time now uh in certain Seasons where the Yankees needed it and Boston was able to to beat them now you go to Yankee Stadium where look like Boston has proven to be a very good road team they're not great at Fenway Park they are good on the road and they did take two of three for the Yankees earlier in the season so this is the four game set these are the pitching probables and for Boston all righties which is a good thing for the Yankees because we know that their record against left-handed starters is not great so this should be a little bit of a benefit for them and game one will feature Cooper chrisell against Nester Cortez that's definitely Advantage Yankees like that one I think when we go through these that one might be the almost most lopsided actually and for Nester it'll be interesting him now back in the rotation after kind of being skipped obviously coming in in relief what will Nester do in this situation pretty big start for him um as they evaluate where they go from here game two Tanner ha against Clark Schmidt and so Clark now making his uh second start back back since injury first start at the stadium curious to see how that one goes too um then game three will be between Brian beo and Garrett Cole Cole you know has not had the best of Bings versus the Red Sox more of a problem at Fenway Park but just in general as well so we know that the Red Sox have his number uh specifically Rafael deis and then the fourth and final game and last game of the season series between the Yankees and the Red Sox will be cutter Crawford and Carlos RH so you know I'm pretty sure beo he's been really good of late and Crawford I think has gone in the other direction I mean certainly the record eight and4 uh seems like Crawford like those two are kind of going in in opposite ways and so yeah Crawford versus rhon and then they will go on a West Coast trip to Seattle and Oakland there'll be a day off after this Red Sox Yankee Series so first three games of the seven game home stand are done Yankees take the two of three against the Royals it was a jazz Schism Jr walk-off hit that was able to seal the deal and so now the home stand goes from facing the Royals to now facing the division rival Red Soxs [Music]
