PS5 Pro - Will it be any good for PSVR2 and GT7?

thought i' had check my streaming gear still working and uh give you my thoughts on the PS5 Pro Pro which was uh announced today so I thought I'd just go through some of the video look at the spec on the blog take any questions if anyone's watching uh May delete the video afterwards we'll see Sony doesn't like um sometimes people playing some of their YouTube videos so we'll see how it goes and that's it really was a bit bored so I thought you know what I'll uh jump on and do some streaming all right so check the audio is working should have check that first looks like it is mic is moving so I'll jump straight into maybe I go to the blog first read some of the page this one that's big enough and I need my other keyboard I'll me to zoom this so not very well prepared we go it's a lot larger f11 for full screen it is right the blog so if you didn't know the PlayStation 5 pro has been announced um I think the pre-orders are on the 26th let me just double check I'll put it in the description below so September 26 of pre-orders and the launch is November 7th so I suspect this will be um sold out by Christmas so well we'll see how many actual uh units Sony ships but I suspect it'll be one of those where a lot of scalpers will get their hands on it so if you think you want to get one I'd get ready on the 26th of SE September to uh pre-order one but anyway the uh pricing next important thing after the dates it's going to be £699 $699 €799 I think is the pricing I'm sure it says on here somewhere uh and the main things are upgraded GPU uh that has 67 more compute units than the current PS5 so we'll cover that in a minute uh in terms of VR and what kind of impact that will have whether that'll be uh good enough for for uh psvr 2 and in particular gt7 cuz that's the main game that I play uh if you if you see the uh on the channel it's mostly Sim racing stuff and gt7 primarily the Amo play Advanced race racing so more powerful race tracing I don't think that really come into use for VR but uh for 2D games um even gt7 should play it in flat 2D mode this will be useful um I think the the the tech video which I scanned through earlier didn't watch it properly I think it has a bit of gt7 in there so that should look better and the the other pretty cool bit which is new is the AI upscaling so this is a bit like um nvidia's dlss so as far as I'm aware the PlayStation's always had an AMD GPU in it this is just a more powerful unit uh I think this is 30 Tera flops of power I don't know if it actually says in here somewhere and I think that the original PS5 is 10 so I think that puts it on par with a 1390 or a 380 TI I'd have to check but I think it's about that um is pretty powerful now AMD hasn't had any AI upscaling Tech it's had FSR Fidel FX which initially I thought was an AI upscaler but it's not it's just a um upscaling algorithm it isn't a deep learning upscaler so I'll cover what I think about that as well and whether that will be useful for VR and the other thing is it's it's a uh dig version only so there's no Drive which at first thought oh no not interested at all and it's not because I play the games on dis it's because I use this as a uh entertainment unit downstairs for like watching Blu-rays and DVDs and I thought with the upscaler built in if that works with video that would be great for watching old DVDs you'd be able to um upscale them and so it's quite disappointing it doesn't have it however it does say you will be a able to buy the drive separately so I wonder I minimize that if the current PS5 digital Edition Drive which is £99 will uh slot straight in um so I assum it will but I'll have to double check that cuz if that's the case then if I was to get one then I'd get the drive straight away uh just so I can uh watch movies on it so that's it for the intro stuff I'll jump over so I've put a link to this blog in the description below if you want to have a look at it and I might just have a quick look at the uh the video pausing it now and then give you my thoughts if anyone's got any questions far away okay hi I'm excited to be here to talk about the newest addition to a console lineup PlayStation 5 Pro and how it advances gaming technology but first I want to take just a minute to look at what we put in the original PlayStation 5 and how it delivers an exceptional gaming experience CPU course form the brains of PlayStation 5 and enable High spe complex gameplay currently eight cor Zen 2 GPU and frame rates that can be as high as 120 frames a second PS5 has a powerful rdna2 GPU so you can already get 120 FPS on the PS5 currently so I guess that'll be at 1080p this might be useful PS5 Pro could be useful for uh Cod players that want to play 4K maybe it'll hit 120 FPS as well that would be uh quite an uplift and and the other thing is I see a lot of potential buyers of this being uh Call of Duty players that want that kind of frame boost and um GTA 6 players that won have the best experience are probably likely to get pre-order one of these which can render cuz assume that is going to be a day one patched for PS5 Pro game from intricate details to Fantastic worlds with vast panoramas to explore Ray tracing allows for dramatic visual improvements including off of water or glass and the realism that comes from Real Time Global illumination a custom SSD can load data at breathtaking speed resulting in Ultra fast transitions between game worlds and data streaming rates so high that traversal speeds are essentially unlimited where they are so a bit finally controller has haptics that let you feel same controller creators have made amazing use of the hardware capabilities but when I talk to them I do hear about their desire for more graphics performance the dreams of the developers are bigger than can be supported at 60 frames per second and that leads to an aspect of modern gaming that we're all familiar with Graphics modes it can be a difficult choice for players Fidelity modes emphasize the visuals typically through higher resolution rendering these modes might also have enhanced detail or use more Ray tracing but the games only run at 30 frames per second the visuals can be choppier and the controls less responsive okay so so's some games if you got it on um high graphics mode run up 13 performance mode more fluid this is current on PS5 frame rate andity Dr to run frima mainly by reducing the graphical detail until those frame rates can be achieved when asked to decide on a mode players are choosing performance about 34 of the time removing that so what saying is most people prefer performance than the graphics so you don't need the PS5 Pro or at least narrowing that divide is one of the key targets for PlayStation 5 Pro we want to give players the graphics that the game creators aspire to at the high frame rates the players typically prefer to do that PS5 Pro substantially improves over PlayStation 5 in three ways here's what we call the big three first we made the GPU much larger and increased the speed of the memory it uses the result is rendering that's up to 45% faster so 45% % faster that sounds like a lot but for a VR you're essentially doubling the the image and the resolutions tend to be quite high so whether that will be enough for Gran Turismo 7 to run natively at 90 Hertz 90 FPS without reprojection on because currently reprojections on and that's what gives you that ghosting when you go around corners so I'm not sure if that's going to be enough just 45% I mean should be 100% right if you want to do as is per I and double it but well it's doubling the frames at least uh so don't know but that isn't all of it I I'll keep on playing there's um the AI upscaling which we'll get to second we made major upgrades to the ray tracing taking a streamlined and accelerated approach that allows so R tracing I don't think there's I could be wrong but I don't think there's any VR games that make use of R tracing on Playstation so so process intensive and tanks the frame rate that usually it's disabled for VR games at Double or even triple the speeds of PlayStation 5 and finally we added custom hardware for machine learning and in library called PlayStation spectral super resolution or pssr for short pssr analyzes the game images pixel by pixel and can add an extraordinary amount of detail which boosts the effective resolution of the games game creators are adding PS5 Pro support to so that pssr so that's what's um similar to nvidia's dlss now it works well in 2D but um what it does is it it basically infers the missing detail uh based on a deep Ling algorithm to to make make the image look good at higher resolution and I found in the past um with VR games on PC VR dlss it looks okay on the image it's upscales image but it's the the the fine detail that you need particularly for racing games in the distance it really struggles with and with flight simulators so if you ever play Microsoft flight simulator or DCS world or any of the simp titles actually so set of course competition has a dlss mode but everyone just turns it off because it just tends to look awful so I wouldn't hope hold my hopes up for pssr uh making much of a difference but I believe it's um available across any game it should be seamless apparently you just turn it on so we'll see um I hope hope it is available for videos um so obviously it's designed for games but if it can upscale like old DVDs if you get the attached drive it could be worth it for that but uh we'll see new and existing titles and with the big involved the results can be pretty amazing so he said new and existing title with Graphics showing something like Fidelity levels of detail but it doubled the frame R here's the Last of Us Part two running on PS5 Pro it has huge amounts of detail and targets a super smooth 60 frames per second let's compare this to the Fidelity on PS5 which is only running at 30 frames second and is therefore much choppier can see the video ising almost Fidelity like Graphics of performance frame rate has been achieved for a broad set of including Marvel Spider-Man 2 and Ratchet and Clank Rift apart we can see that PS5 Pro is close to doubling the power of PlayStation 5 so we'll look at the list of games in a minute I don't want to play too much of this because uh Sony might copyright me we'll see pixel detail and boost frame rate but there are as many approaches as there are game engines the increase in raw GPU power is being especially effective for Horizon forbidden West apart from the detail boost that extra Graphics power is allowing for improvements to lighting and visual effects so this this like I say I work well the AI upscale should work well for 2D and players that play on very big 4K screens I think you'll probably appreciate this the most um where it'll UPS scale to 8K and and are that many people using 8K either monitors or TVs I doubt it so I think it's really for the 4K player this one so you can run it smoothly at 60 FPS as well as to the hair and the skin in cinematics open up guys that's a skin apparently I'd have to see what the sorry the uh better hair as well I have see what the old hair looks like good enough for me Ray tracing is finding broad usage as well particularly when the games are focused on higher frame rates the faster hardware and PS5 Pro can make a real difference yeah gt7 allowing Grand Turismo 7 to add rra Reflections between the so you can see on this the Porsche Cayman you see the the yellow car reflecting here gameplay while continuing to support so lots of shiny stuff trying to see if I can spot anything else that's different 60 frames second that boost in R tracing is also delivering big WIS for hogwart's legacy allowing not only for better Reflections and a greater variety of reflective surfaces but also for further realism in the casting of Shadows other pricing okay so as I mentioned before available from the 7th November pre-order on the 26th of September $699 $699 799 e and is that yen £ 119,000 Yen could be wrong vertical this you pay £699 and then you give you the Flippin stand that learn the drive so I I I imagine there's going to be a mixed bag for this I think most people if I had to guess are going to lean on the side side of uh yeah I'm not getting one because the the PlayStation 5 digital stand is available on Amazon in the UK for 388 so another £310 um to to get upscaling capability so if if you haven't bought a PlayStation already then yeah maybe if you got so you got big 4K TV then and you play Call of Duty and you want it 120 FPS and you want smoother frame rates on your big 4K TV then yes I'd say it's probably worth it if you only got a 1080p monitor or a 1080p TV then I'd say it's not worth it you're going to get a better deal on the PlayStation 5 um see what other things I want to call I made some notes specs B GP you R tracing a scaler it's also got Wi-Fi 7 so if you play this on Wi-Fi at home I mean I'm playing on a um wired ethernet so the Wi-Fi 7 doesn't really benefit me but I imagine some people that don't have the um the cabling available that Wi-Fi 7 could be better especially if you like if you play FPS games and you want lower latency Wi-Fi 7 should work better um with lower latency assuming you're fairly close to the the router or router and should deal with noisy environments better so that could be a win as well something else to consider uh so AI UPS scare better GPU I don't know I think I'm probably just going to get one just out of curiosity and I don't know I'm I'd like to know if it will upscale video beforehand because then I'd probably have this downstairs for for videos um as well as playing on the big screen downstairs but if it if it works well for gt7 and that means I can run 90 htz native without reprojection then I'd probably have it connected to the rig where I've currently got a PlayStation 5 digital um so yeah I'm on the fence leaning to pre-order one but um I don't know I think it's a bit of a jumping price but son's just getting a it's new products charging a premium so yeah that's probably oh so the other thing I want to say so previously on PlayStation 4 I have the uh Playstation 4 Pro and there weren't that many games that were patched for it so um for for VR anyway uh Drive Club VR got a patch and actually worked pretty well so there is some Reliance on some of the games having a uh a dedic dicated patch made to make use of the extra graphics and the r tracing obviously the pssr upscale if that can work on any game that's just taking the the current 1080 image and upscaling it to 4K but uh for for game enhancements it's going to be down to that and there weren't that many for PS4 Pro so I wouldn't hold my breath but gt7 being one of the the top tier releases and the only Sim racing game I'm hoping it has it and also I'm hoping that with the increased compute power of the PlayStation 5 Pro it will encourage other game companies and game developers uh to to potentially Port their PC version or um enable VR so uh f124 currently I don't and um WRC rally those don't have uh support on on Playstation but they do on PC and I think the main reason for that is just the lack of processing power and they were able to get uh Oly they able to get gt7 to work well but they had to do a lot of optimization puffing digital to get this working so maybe if the PlayStation 5 Pro is more powerful it's going to require less work to P over the game to to make it run in VR but time will tell on that one so I think that's really about it for my short stream um don't think there's anything else I wanted to add but uh like I say I'm going to probably try and pre-order one and hopefully if I do get my hands on one I'll be testing out gt7 and I'll give you my thoughts on whether it's worth it or not um the other thing to add and it's not Direct ly related to PlayStation is I should hopefully be getting my hands on a pmax crystal in the next few days so um I'm returning the the other PX Crystal the original uh Standalone unit I send that back to PX that laner back and the sending me another loner so I'll be able to give you my handson first impressions of that well technically it's not my first impressions cuz I did try out when they had the the London Road show about 3 months ago um but I've I've I've not um tried it since then and I've not been using the crystal that much either I've been uh using the psvr2 and the quest 3 as my go-to headsets so I've been waiting for the the Crystal Light per Crystal Light to arrive uh just so I could spend more time in that and probably do a few streams with that heads on all right well I think that was it hopefully the stream went well because uh there was no comments unless I missed them and yeah all right that's it everything my thoughts on the PlayStation
