welcome to Carolina downtown Charlotte and welcome to Bank of America Stadium game two of the 2024 preseason and an opportunity for so many of these young players to make an impression fellas we're League it's a repto rep League nobody really cares what you did yesterday in this league and you got to prove it every day you know there's only 53 guys that are going to make this team out of out of 90 what can you do that separates yourself from everybody else thing about it is I've seen guys have bit on that Fringe and everything like that but through detail and fundamentals and the strain part and measured in the TNTs you know what I'm saying when nobody's looking what are you doing on the backside are you running over there to you know to get that last block to make Str that running back free be clean be flat fast and be violent and don't forget have fun with all this enjoy you only get so many op you know they've got uh another week this week to to prove that they belong not only here but somewhere else you know we have a very deep roster knock on wood and uh and you know the so the competition has been really really good all throughout Camp hey bro at the end of the day bro put your best tape on film it's that simple let's go J on 3 1 2 3 guys out here trying to earn jobs I think that's that's the main thing that needs to be said that I mean that's all the intensity that's that's going to bring all the intensity you know don't count the numbers don't look at the roster spots don't think about any of that stuff just attack every single moment you know and I really think if you approach it in that way whether you make it or you don't make it you've eliminated the ability to have regret They Know Each rep counts every day is interview you know we want them to come out here and do the best job they can and earn the right to come back out here and do it again the next day just think about every single play might be our last play bro let's be honest bro everybody fighting for a job around here bro that real bro remember y'all why when yall like down that field man don't worry about messing up no play remember yall why every single Play bro3 1 2 3 go when you cross those white lines if you don't come out here ready to go you're going to get exposed or hurt so um you're flying around you're trying to make a play and make a name for yourself and show them that you can do what it needs to be done to play out here that's the biggest thing is that everybody understands no matter where you're at on the roster no matter where I'm at my coaching although he got off a pretty good punt considering the pressure Irvin Charles got over there and it looked like it was dead to rights go [Music] I'm supposed to block that how you go like this huh I thought you had that bro I got to see that Dam that would have been that ah they going I already know what they going to say a down now we blocked down we don't block up for many players earning a spot on the 53-man roster requires not only performing at their own position but on special teams as well and beginning this season a dynamic rule change will have a significant impact on the game I I think what you're what you're going to see is um you're going to see 22% of the kicks last year were returned and now you're going to see um you know you're going to see probably I would I would assume probably somewhere around 70 to 80% return so they're they're trying to reduce the space and the speed and and I think it's a really good deal for for uh players specifically um because the the players like myself that that were you know made their career playing special teams um now they have value again what we be standing at what we standing at 70 [Music] hey we see who who's the one who's the one 29 29 29 29 get in Fr stoping big thing is you got to land it in a landing zone so from my perspective have to get it past the 20 ideally before the goal line and then all the cover guys are obviously scooted way up and so to make it more like a punt I guess and uh from there you can't move until the ball's tou which is a big thing you're used to having guys run down the field covering and so now with the condensed field and no running start uh it's a challenge I think for all of us and so we'll see what happens beyond that I mean obviously you can't move until the ball's touched and and after that it's you know it's pretty much just a freefor all it's 10 one-on ones you got to you got to win your one-on-one I will say that I think there's going to be a bunch of balls on the ground um you know you're going to see a bunch more trick kicks and things like that and so it'll it it'll be interesting to see how it how it morphs in and everybody's changing their stuff cuz we're going to have to change it cuz nobody's seen it you know we we've got to have starting fill position for our for obviously for our offense and and uh you know you're not going to be able to fair catch in Harley anymore you're not going to be able to you're going to have to return kicks that are on the ground you're going to have to basically play a short stop back there and so um you know we'll get him in the games and see what happens and and see if they'll hit those holes and and uh see how they do in football the offense and defense May generate the headlines but make no mistake the game can turn in a moment's notice with a kick yeah well they say the game always starts and pretty much ends with a kick so uh special teams unit we're always we get the ball before the offensive defense gets it or we're involved in the play before the offensive defense gets it so it's all about tie shifts we want offense to go short and want the defense to go long well I think the main message is is how hard you play and what your strain is like to to be detailed and consistent and I think he does a good job of hammering that home he sets sets the tone with that so um we just kind of follow his lead and and do as he he teaches an attacking mindset um you know we don't fear failure we attack success goes our first step is with the outside just quick read step right quick read step he goes to my side I'm here I think he has unreasonably high standards which is a good thing games are won and lost on special teams and um it's about executing and um a lot of people don't understand but you only dress 40 40 something people on game day you got o o line dline quarterbacks and the rest of the guys if you're not starting you got to play teams be aggressive make your plays he teaches all the guys the techniques to go out there and to be successful on Sundays and so when the lights do come on guys are well equipped to go and do their jobs he does a great job of teaching schooling the guys up and so that's it just be aggressive and attack uh don't ever let anybody put us on our heels we apply the pressure [Music] kind of you know went back to practicing with the team across town how much do you sense guys that it's different than you know maybe joint practicing with another team considering that the players are in the same state Turf kind of deal um from a competitive standpoint yeah or just like maybe just excitement standpoint does it matter more if it's the Giants compared to somebody else they got two great uh you know Premier pass rushers they get really good interior guys um you know they're they're young in some spots but uh it'll be fun you know there's just going to be a lot of good productive work and uh there is a competitive there is a competitiveness but I think just to come out here and compete against another opponent another body I think that's going to be all the motivation they need what you say have kids last year anytime you get teams together it's always interesting you see how it shakes out as far as you know personalities and pushing and shoving and hopefully it's a clean practice but you never know it's not necessarily about scheme it's about getting an opportunity to work your craft against a different human lean on a different human you know it's a week toe league so just just going out there executing
