now I put my myself through the torture today of watching us vice president Kamala Harris sitting down for her first interview today as the Presidential nominee it's amazing it's she's been in hiding for weeks uh from asking or answering any serious questions from reporter she chose to do the interview not surprisingly on the CNN network with the host Donna bash she even brought along her running mate Tim Waltz as sort of some security blanket now kamla Harris was asked what she would do this is the first question what a hand pass this was what she would do on day one if elected have a look one of my highest priorities is to do what we can to support and strengthen the middle class um when I look at the aspirations the goals the Ambitions of the American people I think that um people are ready for a new way forward um in a way that generations of Americans have been fueled by by hope and by optimism talk about putting you to sleep I mean this thing was pre-recorded so I don't know if that was actually the first question and the first answer but where's some vibrancy where's someone you want to follow into battle I mean seriously a new way forward now hasn't this woman been in the white house as vice president for the last four years what the hell has she been doing she was then asked about criticism that she was flip-flopping on policies including fracking have a listened to the answer do you still want to ban fracking no and I made that clear on the debate stage in 2020 that I would not ban fracking as vice president I did not ban fracking as president I will not ban fracking in 2019 I believe uh in a town hall you said you were asked would you commit to implementing a federal ban on fracking on your first day in office and you said there's no question I'm in favor of banning fracking so yes so it changed in the in that campaign in 2020 I made very clear where I stand we are in 2024 and I've not changed that position nor will I going forward I kept my word and I will keep my word what made you change that position at the time well let's be clear my values have not changed gee big Tim wasn't much help now joining me to discuss this and a lot more is tonight's panel small business women Australia CEO Amanda Rosen Sky News contributor Joe hilderbrand great to see you both as usual on a Friday night uh Joe yes what can you what's the explanation here is she trying to sort of downplay everything and be sort of calm and and uh think the thinking person's candidate as opposed to the circus that surrounds Donald Trump what's going on if you just um follow the pendulum here pricey um she never said that she wanted to ban fracking that was all just in your imagination now close your eyes and go to sleep and when you wake up it'll all just be a dream um yeah it was a pretty it was it was a pretty ridiculous interview it was ridiculous before it even started I'm reminded of all the other presidents who sat down for their first interview with their running mates next to them let me think um that would be I think zero when was the last time you saw albo and Richard miles sit down for a joint interview together on 7:30 I mean the fact that she needed Tim vaultz there at all and the fact that is going to do it with her you know Batman and Robin together in case you know Batman gets in trouble then Robin can sweep in and untie the ropes and save him from the save him from the conveyor belt it's all pretty ridiculous um the only things of substance that she said were reversals um of three key positions which is basically fracking as you said where she did unequivocally say she wanted to ban it in 2019 and then reversed her position um in 2020 and she's kept that word as she said kept that promise although I didn't keep the promise before that which the opposite also said she'd Supply arms to Israel prior to that she was um said to be much more Pro Palestinian and urging more um urging more support for Palestine rather than Israel and uh the other thing she did of course was say that she was going to be tough on border security which the borders did not so well Amanda Amanda you're a great salesperson you you exude enthusiasm you're one of those sort of people that you you know if you said to me R we're going over the trenches follow me I'd be there with you this woman has got no Charisma whatsoever look I think natural Charisma and comes from a true passion for caring about the people the country and wanting change so regardless of what side of politics you're on people that genuinely believe in helping and making a positive change it's infectious you want to follow them you want to you know uh believe everything that they say and unfortunately she's sending off Vibes of I'm here I'm going to do what I'm told and that is why she does change her views and if you look at it a lot of the changes are usually connected in some way to big powerful conglomerates or organizations that say oh we don't want you to say that anymore we want you to say this and unfortunately if we have government officials or you know politicians from any side that can change what they stand for simply because someone higher up so it could be someone with money usually tells them to do that yeah we're in big trouble one of the interesting things Joe you've got Charisma too I didn't mean to leave you out on the Charisma scale mate I apologize thank you K I was going to say one of the interesting things that carela does it's almost like her new tick instead of her nervous laugh is she'll nod while she's saying something as if she's agreeing with herself as if she's just hearing it for her first time she so my position has changed but my values haven't changed yeah I think we all do a bit too much nodding uh Joe Anthony albanes this backflip on the government's decision to take out of the census questions about what people's gender and sexuality is in a census that's not going to be run for another two years this is a a lot of back flipping and yes it's in no it's out he was on the ABC this morning this is his explanation there will be a sexuality preference sexuality or sexual preference question in the sensus oh yes it will as long as uh the testing goes okay and a question can be developed in a way that is uh sensitive and that gets the information uh that is required and the ABS will be testing that there's a a draft question has been uh developed someone else with a Charisma bypass but Joe why is he even getting himself involved in this it's a very good question he doesn't want to is the short answer full disclaimer my wife is the communications and media director for equality Australia so I have some intimate knowledge of this as I'm walking past her office as she's on the phone 12 hours a day so she's been very heavily involved in this but it's not necessarily a back fliping it's not something he's wanted to go out and do precisely because um he doesn't want to be seen to be focused on anything but cost of living at the moment what it is is there was a a sort of push earlier on push years ago in fact for um this question to be included in the future on the census so it's not like he's getting taking it out of the census it was a proposal for a new question to to be on the census to capture people's sexuality so you could you know map the data of you know what sexuality Australians were where just like they M the data of religion or racial or ethnic background all that sort of stuff and and frankly I think the government just had it well and truly on the back burner didn't want to touch it with a barge I think for reasons that you probably imagine repat my question I mean he should just leave it alone I I don't understand it Amanda just quickly Australia have come out and said no you have to do this this is something you said you do but if you understand I I think what people need to understand is how the how the census works so people actually put in submissions from associations individuals put in submissions like an inquiry of what they think would work and what should be included or not and and if people don't put in the submissions they're kind of not heard and with the like for example with religion they want to take out the option of selecting which religion you are and simply have are you religious yes or no and that means that pretty much people that identify particular religion and you know it's quite a big deal for a lot of people especially in Western Sydney that's completely eliminated the only thing I remember about the census Joe is last time we tried to do it they did it online and it crashed in five minutes that's right they couldn't even count anybody but yes that the religion question is an interesting one I think a lot of laps Catholics could fall off the radar because previously it was they listened to a whole bunch of other religions and it was either none or other so it still captures that but yes you're right there is it does say you know it does give you right up front now are you religious or not and it might cause people to have a bit of an existential crisis as they're pulling it out so actually no maybe I'm not that whereas previously they would have said oh yeah I'm an Anglican oh yeah I'm a Catholic or whatever well they're just essentially essentially trying to eliminate religion all together and this is a slow way of doing it but I presume you can just refuse to answer questions if you don't want to do it Amanda Rose always great to see you on a Friday Joe hilderbrand
