UFC Vegas 96 Recap! Cannonier vs Borralho Full Fight Reaction & Breakdown

Intro [Music] UFC Vegas 96 recently wrapped up and I am going to recap the entire card make sure you guys smash the likes and if you new subscribe it was honestly a really good Apex fight night so I'm looking forward to talking about each of the fights on it let's get into the first one we had Kong Wang versus Victoria Cong Wang vs. V. Leonardo Leonardo listen the Kong Wang Gang for life she's a Savage I've been saying it all week and she got a quick knockout a minute in straight punch to the chin down goes Leonardo absolutely badass performance and a massive statement in their debut you might be saying to yourself oh but Victoria Leonardo's a can but it's not about who she beat it's how she beat her Leonardo's a UFC fighter she's got multiple octagon appearances she's got a win in the UFC and Wang made it look so easy you look at Victoria Leonardo's resume fight before she fought Natalia Silva who has a fight coming up against Jessica Andra and Wang got her out quicker than Natalia Silva did she went longer with got with the broken arm she even went to a second round towards the end with man onfo who's fighting at the highest level and really next in line for the belt in the same division I think that Kong Wang is a special talent and I feel like I'm already on the the hype Train The Joker is a Savage future fights for her must watch and I'm telling you she's going to be a confident pick and a lot of matchups at 125 and I for one can't wait for the next one super dope performance and she has a win over Valentina chevchenko in kickboxing next fight jacalene caval kti josii Nunes this was Josiane Nunes vs. J. Cavalcanti a really competitive fight kavalan got a close split decision she was able to do fairly well with strikes from distance josi ad Nunes attempted to bring heavy pressure to her and throw big shots but for the most part she was outgunned granted she did win on one judges scorecard with a 3027 which I thought was crazy the 29-28 kavalan call was very fair though Nunes had moments in the fight cavanti dictated the pace for the most part and Nunes was forced to really just chase her for a lot of the fight and kavalan did a good job at taking his shots so jiani Nunes loses to cavanti who I think is a decent striking Prospect it was a competitive women's fight but I do feel like the right woman won it was competitive but it was not like you could say oh it was a robbery I don't know I think Nunes was outmatched here by just a tad and uh kavalan with a Big W respect to her getting the win next fight vich slav barev and James V. Borshchev vs. James Llontop Lop this one was super competitive I did think barov deserved it there was a lot of split decisions on this card his striking looked pretty good he found his flow but laop gave him a lot of trouble in this fight and for being a former you know world champion tier kickboxer vishav barev was close with James Lop who's a tough MMA Striker I definitely think you got to keep Lop on the roster I don't think you send them out because of a loss to Slava he chose to sit and engage and strike with barov and he had a couple moments I mean Lop hit him with good punches both guys took decent shots Lop was hit with some big ones but the chin did not budge at all he's super young at 25 he's got really good durability and I like that he chose to stand and strike with barov was a former kickboxing champ and I think he did pretty good it was a solid performance man vaslav barev even in you know a close decision win keeps his UFC career alive I don't know when he's going to come back I don't know who was going to fight next it definitely shows me he's not a high caliber guy but you know good enough to win some UFC fights in the back end okay performance but good fight next fight Zach ree Jose Medina I've been calling that over one in a half which was plus money all week so I José Medina vs. Zach Reese was very happy with the result of this one early Zach Reese was doing some damage he hurt Medina with body shots he brought intense pressure to Jose Medina but Medina does not break I picked Zack Reese by a decision and I felt as though this would be the ultimate test for Zack Reese because all of his wins are first round finishes so how would he fa taking on a guy who's proven to have really good durability and was obviously at a massive skill set disadvantage but could take some big shots well Reese did relatively well albe it he did get caught with some big punches at the end of the second round but in the third round he uses massive wrestling Advantage Medina tried hard Medina's a fun guy to watch I feel like you know he's a a true you know mid-tier journey man but he's got a really good chin he's got a fun style where he wants to just bring pressure he's fighting at 185 though and I don't think that he should stick around at 85 he was undersized here if he can cut down to 170 I do think his potential for UFC success is a lot higher but we have to keep it realistic he is a 33y old Prospect but in all actuality he's not a prospect he's a decent journeyman who I think can be involved in some fun fights and I want the UFC to keep him definitely don't let him go after losing his debut I know he's going to be back for more and if it's possible getting him down to 170 is going to be a money move now for Zack ree I do think he finishes a lot of guys on the roster it's just Jose Medina has that special gift of incredible toughness it was a good performance F and it was good that he got rounds in and he was forced to go into the later stages still dominance Dennis Buzukja vs. F. Marshall nonetheless featured prelim Francis Marshall versus Dennis bazooka this was a good back and forth uh first round was boring Marshall mostly just controlled in the clinch and then second round Marshall gets an early knockdown drops bazooka badly bazooka came back with some really big punches at the end of the second round and there's an argument you could say he stole that round and then the Third third round is competitive it was close there was good moments for both guys another hard one to score it ends up being a split decision but I feel like it it makes sense that they gave it to Francis Marshall because that second round with the knockdown was the biggest moment of the round and it looked like bazooka was out he was badly dropped he gave a gutsy effort though and him and Francis Marshall threw down and what was honestly the best fight on the prelims like it was a really good back and forth I like the battle between the two but ultimately uh Francis Marshall a tad bit more of a dog a little bit of that grappling Edge a little more powerful definitely very durable and had crazy will to win and he keeps his UFC career alive because this was the last fight on his contract and uh I'm sure they're going to resign him after beating Dennis bazooka and he's young at just 25 I feel like uh Francis Marshall's you know a decent little Prospect I don't know about Elite caliber but tough and potential for some good dog fights he's still a baby in the game with just his 10th Pro fight nonetheless good performance here against Dennis bazooka who trains with some really good guys at sah Longo but uh Francis Marshall was too tough next fight on the card brings us to our main card opener if you guys E. Shahbazyan vs. G. Meerschaert haven't yet make sure you smash that like button if you're new to the channel subscribe Edmond shabazian fumbled the bag against Gerald mirart so first round starts off shabazian strike is looking good and he is stopping the mirart takedown attempts things seem to be going to plan second round he hurts mirart to the body mirart is turtling up and shabazian is going crazy for a stoppage now the first Blitz was okay but he gave his all in multiple attempts to stop Gerald mirart from the top position playing into me's game and then completely gassing out like his fight was over with afterwards he was tired you can see when he got back up to the feet he was starting to fatigue he was starting to wear down and he just lost it and Gerald mirart is a guy who's not going to quit and when you're tired mirart thrives because he doesn't have super quick striking or crazy athleticism but what he does have is really high level submission threats and a very good will and he recognized as shabazian was throwing all the crazy [ __ ] that he's going to gas out and then mirar gets on top of him and he arm triangles him up and shabazian is forced to tap the way mirart won is just simply by being Tough Enough To Survive he was happy that shabazian was letting everything go with big ground and pound but a lot of the shots getting blocked and then him fumbling the bag shabazian sold if shabazian would have got back up to his feet sooner and said no Mir shark get up we're playing my game I still got energy or if he would have just never followed Mir shark to the ground who knows maybe Edmund shabazian knocks him out but there is just a habit with MMA fighters MMA Strikers specifically where they do well on the feet they're winning and then they try to get a stoppage on the ground and they fumble they gas out they get locked in a submission or they're tired and they get controlled by the grappler and they end up blowing big fights and this is a simple uh you know absolute uh truth example of such a thing if shabazian decided to get back up to his feet super ER before he was gassed or if he would have never followed mirart to the ground and just stuck to the game plan if he doesn't get a knockout he's on route to a 3027 decision but instead tries to go crazy with the Blitz and he meets the uh Wrath of Gerald mirart who called out Paul Craig afterwards and he wants to do it in Tampa yes make that fight happen that's actually a really Dope fight I would love to see it personally I've always wanted to see mirart and Craig and I think right now that that makes the most sense for both of them and it was also a performance of the night bonus winner next one Michael Morales versus Neil Magny this was M. Morales vs. Neil Magny morales's coming out party Neil Magny was putting heavy clinch pressure against the cage on Morales Morales eventually was able to fight the hands lands a spin elbow to get out of the clinch puts Magny down follows up with big ground and pound mag's done at this point he's trying to fight Morales off of him then Morales is able to find his way on top he gets Mount big shots are coming then Neil Magny you know he Turtles up and it's pretty much over I mean Magny was done for the fact that Morales finished him from top position in such a brutal fashion like that really is what Amplified the stock because Morales can strike he can grapple but he also can ground and pound you he doesn't just need a submission he lets bombs fly and it was such a dope performance for him to go out and finish Neil Magny in a round like that this jumps his stock a ton he beats a ranked guy in Neil Magny and the future is very bright for Michael Morales I mean he's going to be matched up against somebody ranked again next time out and I think that's what he deserves at this point that's the level that he sits at the only concern I have is how young he is he's just 25 so being a baby like that there's a worry that potentially you know you move up the ranks a little too soon you faing l but is it the end of the world that 25 and 17 and0 if he does lose a fourth cominging fight does that mean he couldn't be a top caliber Contender absolutely not he still has a ton of that potential and it's going to lead to that I think big fights of what's coming I don't know I want to see who's in that top 15 let me bring it up I'm going to look at the UFC rankings on my phone here so if you look at the welterweight top 15 Magny was ranked number 12 So currently Morales is in a position where he kind of jumps ahead of Kevin Holland Venom pagee and Vicente luk I wonder if they push him as far as to give him like a Buckley Wonderboy winner that could potentially be the fight for him Michael Venom pagee fight maybe there's definitely options there's definitely a lot of excitement with Morales and I think he is a special talent in the UFC he wants finishes he hated winning decisions in the past last couple and I'm glad he got one here against Neil Magny it was a 10 out of 10 performance he also got a performance of the night bonus next up Myron Santos Kaan Ofli vs. Mairon Santos versus KH Oley this was a special win Myron Santos is a special Brazilian fighter he has that Anderson Silva Vibe I was saying it on the live stream when they were doing the you know pre-fight Montage for myON Santos I just just couldn't describe the special glow that he had to him the skill set is incredible man takedown defense was there Precision striking is there his Improvement has been crazy this is a guy that was dominated by Dan aretta in LFA a few fights ago he went on to win a fight get into The Ultimate Fighter house win two fights there and then get a vicious knockout of KH Oley and I think Santos is significantly better than his Ultimate Fighter performances Santos looked really good in this fight and the way that he knocked out Oley was vicious fashion the counter left to the chin both of them Miss Right hands Santos beat Oley to the left and down Oley goes Santos also lended a couple of extra shots a little sugar on top holy [ __ ] I think myON Santos has great takedown defense I think he's a pretty Precision puncher I think he picks his shots really well he manages distance if he can stop some takedowns I mean I know he's a baby at just 24 but the future is bright and he's declaring that he's a future featherweight champ now I will say there was a big struggle with him making the weight so that's a little bit of a concern because at 24 if you're already struggling with that weight cut to 145 you're probably going to have to move up to 155 then so something needs to get dialed in there maybe a nutritionist something he needs he needs uh you know some type of nutritional support he's got the pi now he's already had extreme Coture which is a great gym and if he can stick around at 45 146 what he wait in here I do think he's got a pretty bright future in the game and a very exciting UFC signing for Khan Oley brutally knocked out in this fashion there's a possibility that he's released from the UFC but I don't think it'd be a horrible idea to give him another fight I mean he is a really good Grappler and he just ran into an absolute Menace like Santos he was also threatening with that knee up to Center he threatened with it early and it made Oley kind of scared to shoot takedowns from the outside so very good by myON Santos next fight Ryan loader Robert Valentine another Ultimate Fighter finale congrats to the winners man Ryan Ryan Loder vs. R. Valentin loer becomes The Ultimate Fighter Rob Valentine is a a dope style but he didn't have the goods for Ryan loer first round Ryan loer bringing some wrestling pressure Valentine threatening with subs from the bottom Valentine ends up finding a way to load his back and it seemed like he had a couple of close rear naked choke attempts and then loer ends up finishing the round on top but personally I felt that Valentine's close submission attempts were big enough moments to win him the round after that point we get to the second round loader brings the pressure and what does Valentine do he fumbles the bag he looks for a throw on Ryan loer and ends up on the bottom of him loer gets on top finds his way to the crucifix and just elbows Valentine's face in and the ref has to stop it now interesting loader went for a leg or like a inverted Americana I don't know the actual technical term it's using the legs Valentine hit that submission on The Ultimate Fighter it's like you you wrap the kamur or rather you you wrap the Americana up but you're using like a triangle grip with your legs Valentine was locked in that in the first round and Lotus said he heard the arm of Valentine pop so assuming he was compromised after that point for loer this is a massive win he's a wrestling coach over at Team Alpha Male and he's turning out to be a pretty decent fighter I won't lie to you though I feel like loer does not have a long UFC forthcoming he said that his primary focus is coaching but he wanted to get some experience so I don't know we'll see I think he consistently fights he said he's going to take it one step at a time we'll see how many fights he does but I wouldn't be surprised if you see Ryan loer retire from m at like 10- two he wins maybe you know four fights in a row gets a top Contender loses to somebody gets knocked out or something like that and decides to retire from the sport I think this is like a single run for Ryan loader it's either all wins and he gets to the top or if he hits that wall and he loses he's just say Okay respect to the game I'm out I'm GNA focus on coaching either way Ryan Lo is a good Soul Man good guy after the fight he was talking about mental health he said you can reach out to me like very few people like that out there that are just genuine good folk and Ryan loer is that so I I really like Ryan loer man Karma was definitely on his side here and he got a massive win respect to him pulling through and he got a performance of the night bonus no he didn't these these two both can get one but definitely myON Santo should be getting at least 25k because that knockout was absolutely vicious co-main event this one was interesting this is where the controversial decision call I don't Angela Hill vs. Tabatha Ricci think is crazy tab Richie got the first round Angela Hill definitely got the third round the second round was a relatively close tossup between these two in the co-main event but I don't know I kind of thought maybe you squeak it towards Angela Hill but tabi the Richie did bring some pressure she had Hill backing up a bit and uncomfortable it was such a hard one to score it was such a hard one to score Richie came out so fast her boxing's looking better regardless of what the result could have should have would have been I you know what [ __ ] it Richie probably deserved that I haven't gone back and rewatched it but I'm sure if I did with an open mind I could probably see why they scored it for Richie I think Richie winning is better for the sport Angela Hills 39 I think Richie has way more upside potential and the stock value in her is much larger I mean her boyfriend's Callum wall who's Dana White's favorite boxer right now I think the Richie's good Richie's got decent striking she's developing better boxing she better be when her boyfriend's an undefeated pro boxer her grappling skill set has always been there she has good Jiu-Jitsu she landed some takedowns in this fight and Tabitha Richie in a close one took out uh OG badass and Angela Hill it was a unanimous decision too not even a split I was thinking it was going to end up being a split decision but it's good for her to pull through and win I mean [ __ ] it went distance which was 100% expected Richie takes home a nice W just I think her evolution is evident I feel like her boxing's gotten cleaner she's kind of figuring out how to Pace herself just a tad bit better even though she came out crazy in the first round she's just getting better with time and Angela Hill I think has also gotten better even at 39 I don't think she's washed I just think Tabitha Richie was a rough and tumble matchup for and Angela Hill met that level where unfortunately she's not going to pass through anymore so for uh tabi the this is Major and it will allow her to consistently you know move into better positions in the women's division beating an Angela Hill what does that get you next I'm kind of curious so I got to check the women's rankings so at Women's strawweight Angela Hill was currently ranked number nine in the world Tabitha Richie was 11 I could see Richie being in a position where she gets a push up the ranks and could fight like a heos d winner because I don't really think it necessarily make sense for her to go backwards like is she going to end up fighting uh a Jillian Robertson probably not I mean what's her recent wins let's check this real quick Tabitha Richie she beat Jillian Robertson yeah what am I even saying so she's not going to get that fight she deserves better than lucendo or Cavo kavage Pinero lost to Angela Hill I think it's only upwards from here I think she's probably in a position where she might fight the heos D winner could be even a fight against Marina Rodriguez if they want to test her against another slick Striker a more dangerous one than Angela Hill too good performance and for Angela Hill she'll be sticking around she's not going anywhere maybe a fight I don't know against lucendo maybe maybe that's the fight to make something like that Angela Hills fought pretty much everybody but if you send her backwards it kind of is the only one I mean I'm looking at these rankings let's they give her a lupy godinez rematch Jillian Robertson maybe I don't know we'll see what the UFC decides but Angela Hill will be sticking around I don't think she's retiring yet she hasn't hit that 40 Mark I think when she hits the 40 mark she's probably got one or two more I will predict Angela Hill does it one to two more fights probably Tabitha Richie great win great performance close fight but even in recognizing it was close I did see a better version of Tabitha Richie this time in a close one she gets it against Hill I won't say It's a Robbery it was a fight that was competitive enough where you could have tossed it to either side main event of the evening if you guys haven't yet make J. Cannonier vs. Caio Borralho sure you smash the likes and if you're new to the channel subscribe this was incredible it was a great fight we'll break it down round by round so in the first round Baro is chopping at the calf of Canon ear and he actually knocks him off balance once and even Knocks down with the calf kicks he was also working nice Jabs and it seemed like koner was at a disadvantage of a Slicker Striker and a quicker Striker who had a very good ability to pressure but also control and manage distance and kir had a hard time Landing Big Shots closing that Gap and doing anything effective second round hits it's a better round for koner now we have a bit of a fight caner actually was able to do some good things in the second round land some decent punches and uh make bar a bit uncomfortable win some of the exchanges and I gave the second round to caner round three competitive but Bar's Landing more he's finding nice shots he rocks Jared caner in round number three pretty badly if it was Herzog in there he probably would have stopped the fight similar to what we saw with imav and kir because it was a similar type of rockness he was a he was at a similar level of being stunned Baro looked for a finish but kir was tough enough to survive definitely a baral round and it finished strong for him he was on the offensive and bar at this point you're thinking wow bar hasn't chose to wrestle at all I thought that was insane I really expected to see a bit more of his grappling ultimately didn't need to we get to round four and it's competitive that caner actually does some damage he lands some big punches he slices open the under eye of Kyle but IO he has good moments in the round bario still did well though it wasn't like kir absolutely won the round without a doubt but the most damaging moment was Canon ear and him causing that massive gash under the B eye in that round I felt as though that does enough and that deserves a round win so going into the fifth and Final Round I have this fight even and I have a lot on the line B's the lock five hits Bar's looking good he's on Rhythm it's like bar is not allowing can inir to press him backwards and if you were listening between rounds Canan ear's Corner said do not take a step backwards b forced them to go backwards for the vast majority of this fifth round he brought solid pressure he was in his face he was touching him with decent shots and then he viciously drops him with a straight punch that sends caner completely out cold to the canvas fight's over Done Right TKO I guess not big Dan merata decided to allow caner to continue and barah was beating him up with some vicious ground and pound I was thinking as this is happening kir is 40 I don't think he needs to take this level of excess damage he might say oh I wish I could have continued you watch the replay and if if mergl would have jumped in immediately after the shot landed I would not have argued the stoppage cuz kir went flat backwards and out he woke up as Bar's beating him up from top position and he's trying his best to survive but he is eating loads of damage and the referee easily could have stopped in it was a late stoppage It ultimately wasn't even a stoppage but still kir took a lot of extra punishment for a fight that he was already destined to lose at that point barho then uses his grappling puts caner in a you know bit of a head and arm position not a full arm trying but he's using that shoulder pressure and you could tell Kenan was very uncomfortable in the spot but there was not enough pressure and a cut off of the circulation of blood to the brain to put him to sleep still kenon ear got absolutely merked in round number five it was a clear 108 round and in a perfect world it's probably a knockout win for Kyle bar in round five cuz caner was out in my opinion so now what happens B wins 40 48 46 that's how I scored it and it was definitely a deserved scorecard he calls out drias dupi after and I know he said things about dupi before and that is a matchup that has him uh very interested beating caner in the way that he did is very impressive but it is not going to earn Kyle BHO a title fight Paul Craig caner and now DDP next very unlikely I believe the better call out for Kyle Brio would have actually been Israel adna because adna is going to need to fight somebody on the come up unless they give him a hamzat Whitaker loser what are you doing the trilogy with Whitaker I don't think that makes sense is he waiting around for the loser of DDP and Strickland in some weird world is he gonna fight the winner of amavo and Allen would that be would the amava Allen winter have more momentum right now than Kyle BHO after this win I don't think so even though a MAV off beat caner it was a relatively early stoppage it was an early stoppage not even relatively it was definitely an early stoppage and Brendan Allen's coming off of a close split decision for if not Cur Chris Curtis hamstring tan Chris Curtis is probably pulling off a massive upset there in the rematch I guess it wasn't massive but still an upset Kyle BHO handed Jared caner a bit of a beating and a lesson and also shot one takedown in the whole fight and it was in the fifth round Kyo BHO showed that he can strike with the best of him and he didn't even showcase the elite level jiujitsu that he has the Israel adna and KY bro fight actually makes a lot of sense because Kyo B seems to be the future Brazilian star Israel adna the former champ I know the likelihood is slim but just imagine a world where that fight happens is it not a dope matchup it would be a dope fight I would love to watch that fight it would really allow B to become a star to take on an israad asagna and then a win over him would put him in the next fight for the championship I think that Kyle B has a much higher ceiling than both nazara mov and Brendan Allen I think he has more Championship potential than both and I definitely believe he has more star potential than both of them too who does Kyle B fight next if not for Israel adna well I would say option would probably be he would then face the winner of Brendan Allen and nazarena mov but I will bring a slight argument then it's the battle only of the new blood instead of him fighting against the former champion who has a historic resume and a win over adanna would grow his name and brand significantly more than beating an amov which would be bigger leading into a world title fight potentially with hamzad or Whitaker or dricus dupi or Sean Strickland you know it it all Who's the champion at the time we don't know for sure either way Kyle podo's win was Sensational and taking out even a 40-year-old Jared caner and essentially knocking him out is so badass for koner he needs to take six months off I'm looking at the rankings right now the middleweight rankings and I'm thinking to myself I think time off is his best option I mean maybe he fights like a Brendan Al who loses to a mov next or do we just do it right we have Paulo Costa and him end up fighting that kind of makes more sense than anything maybe a Kevin Holland delid winner could be the matchup for him after the fact that could be it but the Paulo Costa fight has always been dangling there the issue is what if Paulo wants to turn around and fight relatively soon I don't think K andir should fight any sooner than six months I think caner should take the rest of 2024 off and come back better in 2025 he does not need to rush back to the Octagon he rushed back here and granted you know the amava fight was an early stoppage this fight he took significantly more damag and was legitimately knocked out but didn't have a stoppage loss happened to him which is crazy if Herzog was ref in this fight it would have been stopped 1,000% very interesting Kyle bario breakout performance he was my lock of the week so I was very happy he took home a w but even as a fan I was excited because though he has the elite grappling skills he's also got some gnarly striking and he did some real damage to Jared caner and I think Baro seems destined to at the very least face off against the current champion whether it's you know the champion at the times or whether it's DDP or not I like the DDP fight a lot though but he still has to earn it an adosa fight optimal for bro's career I just don't know if that's optimal for the UFC time will tell all now the picks Picks Review as far as them the lock of the week hit with Kyle BHO which is a massive W and then digging back to early in the night one with Kong Wang Gang over Victoria Leonardo had Nunes as a dog lost the decision she was a dog pick it is what it is it was a close fight had barev over laop uh had Reese over Medina and the over one and a half was a confident call there and that was plus money picked bazooka over Marshall he loses Split Decision that's a fair call lower tier Prospect fight had shabazian over meard and shabazian absolutely sold great win by mirart had Morales over Magny and Morales a God had Oley over Santos because I guess I just doubted the Brazilian grappling defense and boy was I wrong this dude's special and I'm a big fan now had Valentine over loer fumbled the bag there because uh loader's wrestling was way too much and I had Hill over Richie I thought the over two and a half was the real confident call as many of you all did and still nonetheless Angela Hill loses a close fight now it's all good because if you look at everything Kyle BHO winning to cap it off was what I needed for the lock of the week my lock parlay of the week was Kyle badho Michael Morales and Tabitha Richie and Angela Hill in a three playay and that turned out to be the guaranteed [ __ ] W zone so it's all good but IO with a finish in the main event or whether I guess it wasn't really a finish but essentially knocking out Canon ear I cannot wait for what's next such a fan such a special talent UFC Vegas 96 was actually good it was a really good card I had a lot of fun watching it and there were some great moments some stars were born some Ultimate Fighter winners were crowned and some impressive fights went down the main event was also the fight of the night too I hope you guys guys enjoyed the content hope you enjoyed the recap make sure you smash the like button if you
