false alarm sending a school into lockdown and causing some parents to panic dozens of parents rushing to Foley High School this morning after learning of a possible threat well tonight we hear from one of those parents our Natalie Williamson has that and new information from superintendent Eddie Tyler yeah I do Le and Lish just a few hours ago Tyler sent out a long message to parents praising the way School staff and law enforcement handled today's situation he said even though that it was a false alarm he'd rather be safe than sorry tonight Fox 10 News is looking into a false alarm that led to mass panic at Foley High School school officials say it all started when a teacher overheard a student talking about a weapon which prompted the teacher to push an alarm leading to a lockdown Michael frell parent of a student says when he received word of the lockdown his mind immediately went to the worst scenario just being that we've heard of the school shootings here recently in the other states and things like that that's what immediately went through my mind frell tells me he was relieved when he found out there was no gun involved according to Foley police chief thirston bulock the teacher who set off the alarm responded appropriately our officers responded quickly but meanwhile during that time we had sro's on campus we do have two sro's at this location they responded with school staff immed immediately to the situation our number one priority is getting in there to make sure this school is safe and that those kids are taken care of and that that their priority is life safety and we want to make sure that that's done first and foremost frell tells me while he is pleased with the way law enforcement handled the situation he hopes this is a wakeup call to bring in more security I would like to see metal detectors in all the schools it shouldn't have to get to where it's a violent school before we do more to protect our kids bulock says they had over 100 offic ERS come out today and they did not find a gun there have been no reported injuries at Foley High School Natalie Williamson boxt news all right Natalie let's talk more about what the superintendent Eddie Tyler had to say in his message to parents tonight and I quote after what I witnessed today I want you to know something important if you are the parent of a child in the Bing County Public School System you should feel very good about the safety of your children you can read the the entire message on our website
